2023.06.05 14:50 Gumba54_Akula Karen refuses to buy a bus ticket, gets herself arrested
If you take public transit and your phone dies due to a 7 year old battery, you may sometimes get a comedy show straight from Monthy Python himself, such as on a particular thursady evening.
I peacefully sat on the bus after a long day at university, staring out the window, when some male voice interrupts my semi-dissociative state saying: "Please show your tickets everyone". Nothing out of the ordinary, I assume, until I see a woman speedwalking towards the front of the bus in the utmost corner in my eye.
I think nothing of it, show the about 30ish looking ticket inspector my ticket and continue staring out the window, until I overhear the following conversation:
Ticket inspector: "I saw you run towards the front of the bus as soon as I asked for tickets. get out at the next stop or you will be fined."
Karen: "No, I just hopped on the bus on [Main train station], and thus, I went to buy a ticket."
TI: "We got on at [Main train station] and you were in the bus since before then, as you were not on the bus stop with us."
K: "You are obviously lying. You just didn't see me because I entered before you, on [Main train station]."
Meanwhile, the bus has reached the next stop.
TI: "I don't have time for this. Get out now, or you will be fined."
K: "I am not leaving you liar."
TI: "Alright then, that'll be a €60 fine for you."
The bus left for the next station at this point in time, which is right next to the police station.
K: "No, I was going to buy a bus ticket after I have just gotten on the bus! You pathetic liar!"
TI: "Name and family name?"
K: "No, I will not accept your fine and I will not give you my name."
TI: "Fine by me, then show me your ID and I'll gladly fill out the fine ticket myself."
K: "I don't have an ID with me and you are still a liar."
TI, over the radio: "Uhm yeah guys can 2 of you come over? We got a very uncooperative passenger here who refuses to fill yout the fine ticket."
K: "Wait wha... How dare you?!"
Meanwhile, the random guy sitting next to me and I are chuckling.
TI, still over the radio: "Gotcha, awesome. Thanks."
TI: "Well, as you refuse to leave the bus, I will have you escorted off the bus by the police, and the bus will stay here until you get out. And believe me, now you will not be able to go away that early."
K: "This is unacceptable! I will get you fired for this!"
TI: "See you in court lol." Yes, he actually unironically said lol.
K: "It's always you immigrants and young spolied brats who ruin the lives of us hard-working German adults! This is the reason why this country is going to shit!"
TI, with a smirk: "I'm born in Germany but I will gladly accept the compensation for emotional damages."
At that, Karen let ot a shriek of dispair, anger and something else of what I can only describe as demonic qualities.
The bus stopped at the aforementioned stop, waited for two minutes and I saw 2 men in blue approching, looking supremely pissed, as if they were just put on the is last assignement as they were about to go home.
PO: "Alright ma'am, I'm going to ask you nicely to get off the bus once."
Karen storms out of the bus, the ticket inspector leaves as well. As soon as the doors closed, some people burst into straight-up laughter, including the driver.
I had a genuine urge to clap after this performance.
What did we learn today: Buy your bus tickets before you go on the bus and sometimes, the real world can be even funnier than the entire Internet combined. Also, if you make such a fuzz about a mere €60 fine, you can get yourself into knee-deep crap.

2023.06.05 14:50 Standard-Sort-7744 Supervisors don’t like how I
So I’m on preload and everyday towards the end of our shift once our trailers start getting finished and pulled they replace them with trailers for the day/twi/night sorts. They back the new trailers onto the bay door with the trailer door already open, so you can see the packages inside. It’s clear that they’re for the next shift, not ours. But Let me start by explaining that I’m in a large hub with like 250+ package delivery routes for my preload shift. Whenever a new trailer gets put on, and it’s clear that it’s for the hubs -not preload, I can’t help myself but to wander into the trailer and try to find a few packages that my preload services, and slap a pal label on them and send them on their way to a brownie to get delivered TODAY. 98% of packages are for other states, but there’s always a few for my preload shift. So Rather than the night sort unloading the trailer only to load up our packages into a new trailer for my preload shift to unload the next day, I always like to save everybody a step and get the customer their package a day earlier than expected. Whenever my supervisor sees my digging thru the trailers for the next shift, he always yells at me and says I’m ‘creating work’.. but I’m like no, we would have to process the box eventually, if we have it here now might as well deliver it??? He tries to explain it like ‘oh the customer isn’t expecting delivery today’ yea but who wouldn’t want their package a day early?? I can’t help myself but to always dig thru the 1st wall of the trailers for the next shift to try to find a few for my shift. But I always have to watch my back because my supervisor hates it. I don’t plan on stopping, I just make sure my supervisors not looking. I know I’m right. I even asked my full time supervisor if I’m in the right to pull out any of our packages, and he says I shouldn’t , that it’s unplanned work. But I don’t agree. I feel like it should be someone’s job to dig thru every new trailer that gets put on for any packages that we service, to save the night hubs work, to save our shift tomorrow work, and to get the customer their packages a day early.. They can’t discipline me for this can they?

2023.06.05 14:44 heLLoSmile96 A way to let your perps know that you know,,
So one thing I've been doing and it's actually kind of funny because the perps are my neighbors, it's a long story but they thought they could move there happy ass into my complex. Which is whatever honestly to me because I know there feds and they can't really do a whole lot to me without having to suck my cock a little bit and ive always said as long as you don't wake me up do what ya need because I'm just so over alot of shit.
So first thing I noticed is I live in older apartments and some rooms are vacant. I noticed they thru something at a window and broke the window to "spook" me. I also noticed how when I would go out, they would go out, when I would open my door, they would open the door, it got to the point I started playing with the lock just to watch what they'll do, I also pound the fuck out of my door if the piggy neighbor who LOVES to constantly slam his door thru out the night in and out.
It's annoying ASF and he knows it and I let him know he better watch how he closes his door and knows there's barely any slamming but it's only been 24 hours since that's been 🤣 the next thing I noticed is they followed me from afar as I was dropping of some cookies for sweat old grandma sue in Florida, and as I was walking back home they were walking my trial as they passed me, so that was another thing. Another thing they do is they like to clap there guns or try to laugh or whistle in intimidation, they will also have random ass people tell you things out of the blue as your having solid discussion as if there trying to throw you off, and so what I've been doing is playing with the hotspot name's to "gang stalker 88" and "piggy's go OINK OINK" and just a-z and I'll have people on the wifi list rename there device to show they see it weather that's a regular person or the feds. All in all it's weird but I'm just going with the flow.
I know there not here for me because they would have got me years back when i was making my DMT but since I started sending Lucy and edibles around the states they've been on me but the thing is I barely make shit form anything. So all in all they weirdos are wasting there time 🤷🏿♀️
OH AND THANK GOODNESS FOR SEREQUEL, take the tinest pebble of 25 mg and I'm feeling as if they just died all of sudden 🤷🏿♀️🤣

2023.06.05 14:41 Jesse123h [M4F] multiple original plots
Nice to meet you reader!
I'm a 25 year old descriptive male. Hoping to find a descriptive female partner for a long-term roleplay. I play for about 10 years now and always try and write detailed paragraphs, so my partner has something to work with.
My prompt ideas:
-- driving instructo student-- I had recently turned 17, which meant I could legally learn how to drive a car on public roads. But my parents were working all the time so they decided to subscribe me in a driving school.. Once I got there, I was surprised that you were my instructor, I mean.. I had to try to keep my eyes on the road instead of on your body..
We can still work out together where this prompt will lead too. Will it lead to sneaky sex in a public parking lot? Maybe some extra hours after the lesson in the main building or maybe I could trick you into exchanging numbers so this would eventually lead to us sexting? Whatever you desire..
--nurse /teenager (19)-- During a football match I had torn a muscle in my upper thigh. The doctors had to do a surgery to get it to function again. I had a long recovery planned at home. Obviously I couldn't move my leg, which meant I was barely mobile.. A nurse would come everyday for a couple of hours to take care of the wound and make me do some exercises to Gain a little bit of mobility back. After a couple of days she saw that my eyes got drawn to her chest quite often... Maybe she would massage up high on my thigh? Or she could plan me as last visit for the next day without telling me, just to give me some extra hours. Maybe she would sneakily glance at my cock too. Who knows?
-cousins go on Holliday with my parents--
My parents and I yearly go on a winter Holliday trip. This was a trip that we did with the car, to drive 12 hours through the night to reach our hotel in the mountains. But this year was different, my favorite cousin was coming with us! Your parents dropped you off the night we would hit the road, my mouth immediately fell right open as i saw how mature you had become. You changed into a real woman this year, as I had not seen you in quite a while.. On the trip mom would sleep most of the way as dad would drive with some music on to keep his head clear. We would sit in the back of the suv, that was filled with blankets and pillows.(we could have done things already in the past or not). During the night I couldn't sleep as I crawled upto you resting my head on your 2 big soft pillows. Making me quite hard in my thin shorts while I was almost falling asleep....
Bonus points if you would like to play as a caring figure and would have big natural boobs
These ideas are still open for twists and turns, so definately add your own ideas if you'd like to!
You can find me on kik at Jesse.123h Or discord at Jesse H#2897
Pur some effort into your message please, if you have a kink list you can share it if you want. I hope to hear from you soon! 😉 (all roles including mine are 18+)

2023.06.05 14:30 TheButtFunk Not signed up for hospice. Mom seems to be dying. What to do?
Hi all,
My near 80 year old mother seems to be near death. She's been acting the most delirious she has in a week. She's been talking non sense and being violent, trying to hit my dad. She is not signed up for hospice. I fear (and secretly hope) the end is near for her. She's been through a lot of suffering.
What can I do to get help from hospice? Will any company sign up this late in the game?
Background: My mom has had a quickly growing list of health conditions. She went into the hospital a little over a month ago and was quickly diagnosed with pneumonia (lots of fluid in the lungs). Then they discovered atrial fibrillation. Then they discovered lung cancer, stage 4, spread to the liver. 😳
At that long, mom said she wanted to die. Asked for a morphine drip - but got told they can't ethically do that in our state. So she did the next best thing: stop dialysis. (Oh yeah, forgot to mention that she has been on dialysis for 5 years). So we did that. None of the doctors argued against her choice. But my dad was against it. Kept trying to convince her to reconsider. 11 days after stopping dialysis, she finally said yes, I'll try going back on dialysis and see if maybe I can get better.
So that meant back to the hospital after her initial two weeks. She got discharged last Tuesday, and it's been hell since. When she decided to go on hospice, we had her stay at a Skilled Nursing Facility. On this most recent discharge, we brought her home (because no nursing facilities will do peritoneal dialysis). I/we never knew how much work it is to take care of someone when they are so weak they are essentially bed bound.
My dad has been holding out hope that she'd start getting better, but all signs point to her being on the way out...
Based on what I've read, and advice from a doctor friend a couple of weeks ago, it sounds like it's near the end.
Will any hospice take us so close to the end??
Thanks...
PS. More just ranting... I was awoken at 3:30am to try to pacify my newly violent mother. I will call the "care transition team" at the hospital my mom was discharged from when it hits business hours...

2023.06.05 14:28 sonofabutch No game today, so let's remember a forgotten Yankee: Truck Hannah
The entirety of
Harry "Truck" Hannah's major league career came with the New York Yankees -- all three years of it. But if you include his participation in the minors, he had a long career, beginning in 1909 with the Tacoma Tigers in the Northwestern League and ending in 1940 with the Memphis Chickasaws in the Southern Association. He is one of only a handful of players to have a hit in five different decades!
Of all the forgotten Yankee with memorable nicknames --
No Neck,
Stanky the Yankee,
Sailor Bob,
Spud,
Slow Joe,
The Mummy,
Birdie,
Bump, and
Grandma Johnny -- there's something to be said about the sublime elegance of a big, brawny catcher nicknamed Truck.
James Harrison Hannah Jr. was born 134 years ago today, on June 5, 1889, in what was then the Dakota Territory. (It would become the state of North Dakota about five months later.) By age 2, the family had moved to Seattle, Washington.
As a kid, he was called Harry, but by the time he was playing baseball, he was universally known as Truck. There are several stories as to how he got the nickname. Some said it had to do with his imposing size -- he stood 6'1" and weighed a solid 190 pounds -- and others because of the way he could block the plate as easily as a truck could block a street. Other sources say the nickname wasn't comparing him to a motor vehicle but to a horse, or rather a truck horse, as horses that pulled heavy wagons were called at the time. His daughter, Helen, said he got the nickname simply because he was "big and slow."
Another explanation, a little less colorful, was that Hannah paid the bills in the off-season by working as a truck driver!
Hall of Fame Umpire Billy Evans said Hannah was adept at the catcher's trick of distracting the batter with a steady stream of banter while behind the plate:
"Truck Hannah always has been an object of interest to me when catching. Aside from always doing a pretty good job receiving, he never failed to have a line of conversation that would make a bigger hit on the vaudeville circuit than some of the stuff used by some monologue artists. Hannah keeps up a continual chatter from the time the game starts. Of course, his conversation is largely directed at the batter, in the hope that his line of talk will take the mind of the batter from his work, the making of base hits. He seeks to keep the batter from concentrating, and from the many strikes slipped over by the New York pitchers, I would say there was merit in his system. Hannah's conversation is never objectionable. He usually has the batter laughing at some of his talk, rather than sore."
But Hannah used more than just banter to distract batters. As the pitch was being delivered, he would sometimes spit tobacco juice onto a player's shoes, toss pebbles onto the plate, or throw dirt at their hands on the bat!
Hannah got his start in professional baseball as a 20-year-old third baseman with the Tacoma Tigers in the Northwestern League. When the team needed an emergency catcher, Hannah was put behind the plate and stuck there for the rest of his career. Over the next five years he played for five different teams in four different leagues, until in 1914 finally catching on with the Sacramento Wolves in the Pacific Coast League. The PCL at the time was considered by some to be a third major league, or at least the minor league closest to major league competition, and Hannah was regarded as one of the best catchers in the league. He drew interest from several major league teams, including the Tigers, Phillies, and Browns. But it was the Yankees who finally acquired him, paying $4,000 to acquire his rights after he hit .292 in 569 at-bats in 1917.
Truck pulled into the Polo Grounds -- not Yankee Stadium, which wouldn't be built until 1923 -- as the foundation was being laid for a dynasty. Jacob Ruppert and Tillinghast Huston purchased the Yankees in 1915 and immediately set about reversing the fortunes of what had been for years one of the worst-run teams in the American League. The Yankees, as they became known in 1913, had only winning season in the last 10 years.
The new owners set about making changes, acquiring a number of valuable players: Wally Pipp, Home Run Baker, Ping Bodie, Aaron Ward, Urban Shocker, and previously forgotten Yankee
Bob Shawkey.
After the 1917 season they made the biggest change of all, firing well-liked manager Bill Donovan and replacing him with former St. Louis Cardinals manager Miller Huggins, who over the next 11 years would lead the Yankees to six pennants and three World Series.
Huggins made another move, acquiring from the St. Louis Browns future Hall of Fame pitcher "Gettysburg Eddie" Plank and veteran second baseman Del Pratt. The latter would be a good player for the Yankees, hitting .295/.348/.394 (106 OPS+) over the next three seasons, but the 42-year-old Plank refused to report and retired instead. In return, the Yankees shipped out five players... including starting catcher Les Nunamaker, who had been with the Yankees for four seasons.
And so, needing a catcher to replace Nunamaker, the Yankees paid the Salt Lake City Bees $4,000 for Hannah. He was expected to battle 22-year-old Muddy Ruel to be the backup to the 25-year-old Roxy Walters, who had been Nunamaker's understudy since September 1915, but Ruel would be drafted into the U.S. Army and Walters broke his finger in an exhibition game 10 days before Opening Day. By the time Walters was ready to play again, Hannah was hitting .288/.432/.356 and had thrown out 19 out of 34 basestealers; over the rest of the season, he would maintain that pace to lead the league in CS% (55%) as well as in double plays as a catcher (16). His batting average would fade dramatically, however, dropping all the way to .220 by the end of the season, but he was still contributing with a .361 OBP in 312 plate appearances. Walters's bat never got started at all, and hitting just .199/.239/.236 in 205 plate appearances.
Technically a major league rookie when he joined the team, the 29-year-old Hannah was treated like a veteran from his four seasons in the well-respected Pacific Coast League. In addition, he was -- literally as well as figuratively, at 6'1" -- one of the few players on the team who could see eye-to-eye with the 6'2" Babe Ruth when he was acquired prior to the 1920 season. When Ruth got into squabbles with diminutive manager Miller Huggins, it was often Hannah's duty to keep the peace.
Yankee shortstop Roger Peckinpaugh, the Yankee captain from 1914 to 1921, described one such incident to long-time Yankee PR man Marty Appel in 1974:
"Once we were leaving Boston after a tough loss, and Babe was drunk, and he said he was gonna throw Huggins off the train! He was heading for his drawing room. On the way he stopped in the men’s room and punched this huge mirror. It fell into a million pieces. Me and Ernie Shore and Truck Hannah pulled him down to the ground and sat on him until he passed out. Truck — a big guy — puts him over his shoulder and moves him to the next car."
At the end of the season, the Yankees were happy enough with Hannah that they traded Roxy Walters to the Red Sox. For the next two years, the catching duties were almost evenly split between Hannah and Ruel, who was back from the Army with the end of World War I.
The "Muddy-Truck" tandem was colorfully named but disappointing, with Ruel hitting .255/.325/.306 (71 OPS+) in 560 PA and Hannah .243/.313/.317 (70 OPS+) in 553 PA. Catcher in those days was very much a defense-first position, and both had good gloves, but the Yankees (even with the newly acquired Babe Ruth having an 11.7 bWAR season) finished three games out of 1st in 1920.
Ruppert and Huston asked Huggins what the team needed to win, and his answer: a catcher.
At the end of the season, the Yankees sent Hannah back to the Pacific Coast League, and traded Ruel to the Red Sox for previously forgotten Yankee
Wally Schang, the first in the long line of great Yankee catchers. In his five years with the Yankees, the switch-hitting Schang hit .297/.390/.406 (105 OPS+), and in the 1923 World Series -- the first of 27 won by the Yankees -- Schang played every inning of every game, went 7-for-22 (.318) with a double and three runs scored, and allowed just one stolen base.
Hannah would stay in the Pacific Coast League for the next 22 years as a player, coach, and manager. He had a great year with the Vernon Tigers in 1923, hitting .346 with 23 doubles and 6 home runs in 370 plate appearances. His final plate appearance came on May 19, 1940, when he was managing the Memphis Chicks. Two weeks shy of his 51st birthday, with both his catchers injured, Hannah caught both ends of a doubleheader and went 1-for-6.
Hannah retired from baseball two years later after his St. Paul Saints lost 15 games in a row -- 11 of them by one run! He said he couldn't sleep anymore, replaying every loss in his head over and over, second-guessing every decision he made as manager.
He retired to his ranch in Southern California, but remained active enough in the regional baseball scene that when the Los Angeles Angels played their first major league game in 1961, Hannah was selected to catch the ceremonial first pitch.
Truck Hannah died on April 27, 1982, five weeks shy of his 93rd birthday. His wife, Helen, died in October, a month before what would have been their 70th wedding anniversary.
Keep On Truckin':
- One of the more interesting aspects in researching information about Truck Hannah is in looking for pictures of him, you come across many photos of trucks owned by women named Hannah.
- Hannah made his major league debut against the great Walter Johnson. In his first major league plate appearance, he singled up the middle! He popped out his second time up, then struck out. His fourth time up he drew a walk against Johnson, advanced to second on a single, and scored his first major league run on a double, and the Yankees won, 6-3. Not a bad debut against the future Hall of Famer!
- According to his SABR biography: "Hannah’s daughter may have led a more interesting life than her ballplaying father. Helen Lorraine (Hannah) Campbell was one of the first women in Los Angeles to enlist in the Marine Corps during World War II, and retired from the Marine Corps Reserve in 1975 after 32 years of service. She was also a chaperone for several years with the Muskegon and Kalamazoo teams in the All American Girls Professional Baseball League, the league that inspired the 1992 movie A League of Their Own. At the age of 75 she went parasailing for the first time and at 78 sailed over Africa’s Serengeti plains in a hot-air balloon. She died in 2013 at the age of 97."
- On May 12, 1920, Hannah went 4-for-4 (all singles) with two runs and two RBIs in a 14-8 rout of the Chicago White Sox. Hannah singled twice in a seven-run 6th inning, as did pitcher Bob Shawkey; it was the first time in major league history that a pitcher and catcher each had two hits in the same inning.
- That was Hannah's best day as a major leaguer, but he had another four-hit day on September 11, 1920, with a double and three singles in five at-bats against the Cleveland Indians.
- Truck Hannah was the first major leaguer born in what would become North Dakota when he made his debut on April 15, 1918. He also is one of three Yankees born in North Dakota: Ken Hunt, an outfielder in the Yankee farm system from 1952 to 1960 who had a couple cups of coffee in the Bronx, and later played for the Angels and Senators; and long-time Cleveland Indians 1B/DH Travis Hafner, who ended his career with the Yankees in 2013. The most famous Yankee raised in North Dakota is Roger Maris, but he was actually born in Minnesota. The family moved to Fargo when Maris was 8 years old. A total of 20 major leaguers were born in North Dakota, and the best, by bWAR, was Angels outfielder and two-time All-Star Darin Erstad.
- Hannah is on the All-Palindromic Last Name Team, along with Dean Anna, Toby Harrah, Eddie Kazak, Dave Otto, Glenn Otto, Dick Nen, Robb Nen, Johnny Reder, Juan Salas, and Mark Salas.
- In 1917, Hannah was behind the plate for the Salt Lake City Bees in the Pacific Coast League when former New York Giants outfielder Fred Snodgrass came up to the plate for the Vernon Tigers. Hannah, by this time a 28-year-old nine-year minor league veteran and hitting a respectable .292, wasn't impressed. "So you're a big leaguer? I guess you're going to come out here and show us how the Giants used to do it, eh? Let's see if you can hit this one." That off-season, major league teams asked Snodgrass for his opinion on the top players in the Pacific Coast League, and his report on Hannah: "I don’t like him personally, but I must say he is the best all around catcher in this league, and my dislike for him does not blind me to that fact."
- George Halas -- who would later be the founder of the Chicago Bears -- was a 24-year-old rookie on the New York Yankees in 1919. He was on the bench sitting next to Truck Hannah during a game against the Tigers, staring wide-eyed as his boyhood idol, the legendary Ty Cobb, strode to the plate. Hannah, maybe pranking the rookie, told Halas he ought to razz Cobb to try to throw him off his game. Halas did as he was told, and to his surprise, got a reaction: Cobb dropped his bat, marched over to the Yankee dugout, and pointed at Halas. "Punk! I'll see you after the game! Don't forget, punk!" Halas, a Navy veteran and a college football player, was no punk but not exactly looking forward to a brawl against the famously irascible Cobb. He stayed in the locker room as long as possible, hoping Cobb would be gone by the time he emerged, but when he finally came out, the Georgia Peach was waiting for him. "I like your spirit, kid," Cobb said, "but don't overdo it when you don't have to." Halas said it was a lesson he never forgot.
- Speaking of Cobb, he told a sportswriter he didn't care for Hannah's distracting patter behind the plate: “This fellow Hannah of the New York club keeps me busier at the plate than any other catcher in the league. I don’t like letting a recruit outtalk me, and in my effort to keep my end of the conversation, I had my work cut out for me making base hits off those Yankee pitchers.”
- Carl Mays, who had pitched for the Red Sox since 1915, was acquired by the Yankees on July 30, 1919. Delighted to go from the 38-48 Red Sox to the 48-38 Yankees, Mays made the rounds in the clubhouse, shaking hands. When he got to Hannah, he offered his hand, but Hannah shoved him away, then charged after him. Mays backed up until Hannah vaulted over a table and cornered him against a wall -- and only then did Hannah shake his hand. "We're even," Hannah said, grinning. Since the previous season, Hannah and Mays had been feuding. Mays took great pride in keeping his uniform spotless, and hated Hannah's trick of spitting tobacco juice onto his shoes while batting. So every time Hannah came up to the plate, Mays came "up and in" to make him hit the dirt. In April, the last time they'd face each other, Mays plunked him. But now they were teammates and all was forgiven. Ironically, a year later, Mays would kill Cleveland Indians shortstop Ray Chapman with a pitch that hit him in the head.
- During the off seasons, Hannah played in the California Winter League, believed to be the only integrated league in professional baseball at the time. Hannah also played against Negro Leaguers when barnstorming with Babe Ruth in 1920 and Dizzy Dean in 1935.
- Prior to the 1927 season, Babe Ruth made a silent movie called Babe Comes Home. Based on a short story called "Said With Soap," it had quite the plot: Ruth is Babe Dugan, a ballplayer whose tobacco-chewing habit means his uniform is always stained. He falls in love with Vernie, the laundress who cleans the team uniforms, but she wants him to stop chewing tobacco. Babe then goes into a slump, and finds himself on the bench. Vernie finally relents and gives him a plug of tobacco, and Babe hits a game-winning home run. The movie was filmed at Wrigley Field -- not that one, but a field with the same name in Los Angeles. It was the home stadium for the Los Angeles Angels, and on the Angels were several ex-Yankees, including Truck Hannah. Ruth was much more interested in his old pals than in the movie, and the exasperated director struggled to keep Ruth's attention. Finally, he moved Ruth to a distant park of the stadium, as far away as he could from Hannah and the other ex-Yankees. But Hannah and the others kept mischievously hitting balls in his direction, causing Ruth to botch take after take!
- Hannah was in two movies himself, both times as a baseball playing extra. The films are notable because they are both early "talkies". His first appearance was in 1928's Warming Up, about a pitcher (played by Richard Dix, later a star in westerns) who falls in love with the team owner's daughter (played by Jean Arthur, who would later co-star with Jimmy Stewart in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington). A year later Hannah was in Fast Company, about a baseball player (Jack Oakie) who is inspired to greatness thanks to fan letters he thinks come from a beautiful woman (Evelyn Brent) but are actually written by his conniving manager (Skeets Gallagher). In 1940, Oakie was nominated for an Academy Award for his performance as a parody of Benito Mussolini in Charlie Chaplin's The Great Dictator.
- Joe DiMaggio, still a teenager, played for the San Francisco Seals in the Pacific Coast League from 1932 to 1935. Hannah, with the Los Angeles Angels, played against him often. Prior to DiMaggio's debut with the Yankees in 1936, a sportswriter asked the former big leaguer for his scouting report on DiMaggio. "They'll be comparing him to Tris Speaker and Harry Hooper and those fellows in a year or two," Hannah said. Truck was right: Speaker and Hooper were both Hall of Fame outfielders, and of course, so was the Yankee Clipper.
- In 1936, Hannah was a playecoach for the Los Angeles Angels. Ted Williams, already a legendary hitter (and pitcher) from his exploits at Herbert Hoover High School in San Diego, was being courted by both major and minor league teams. Ted's father, Sam Williams, was acting as his agent, and he arranged a meeting with Truck Hannah to talk about a contract with the Angels. "When my dad went down to talk to him, Hannah said, 'Where's the kid?'" Williams later recalled. "Dad says, 'He's not here.' Hannah said, 'Well, for crying out loud, go get him. He's the one I want to talk to, not you!'" Insulted, Sam Williams walked away. Instead, Williams -- after turning down offers from the Yankees and the Cardinals -- signed with the newly formed San Diego Padres of the Pacific Coast League. Had he signed with the Angels, Williams likely would have been a Cub, as they were a Chicago affiliate. (But Williams, a San Diego native, likely would have signed with the Padres even if Hannah had made a better impression.)
- Hannah's mouth almost cost his team another teenaged prospect. In 1934, 16-year-old Steve Mesner went to an open try-out for the Los Angeles Angels, and Hannah was helping to evaluate the prospects. He took one look at Mesner and shouted, "Get out of here, kid! You're too little!" Mesner started walking off the field, but someone told him to go back. During batting practice, he hit three balls over the fence! During a fielding drill, he was handling every chance, and the coach kept hitting them harder and harder, expecting the teenager to boot one. He didn't, and the team gave him a contract. Mesner hit .328 in three years with the Angels before going to the Chicago Cubs and later the Cincinnati Reds.
- The winter of 1918-1919 was gripped by the "Spanish Flu" epidemic and, in a scene that would be familiar to all of us today, the players, umpires, and fans in a Southern California winter league wore face masks during the game. A photo ran in the newspaper with the catcher misidentified in the caption as "Trash" Hannah of the New York Yankees!
- Hannah is a member of the Pacific Coast League Hall of Fame. Some sources say he was an inaugural member when it was created in 1943; other sources say he was inducted in 1950. Other notable Yankees in the PCL HoF include Frankie Crosetti, Joe DiMaggio, and Casey Stengel.
- Hannah's daughter, U.S. Marine Master Gunnery Sergeant Helen Hannah Campbell, went to Whittier High School with Richard Nixon, and later served as a docent the Richard Nixon Library and Birthplace in Yorba Linda, California. Richard Nixon, who grew up watching Hannah as a player and manager in the Pacific Coast League, said in a 1983 interview: "I remember Truck Hannah. He was a great catcher and could hit."
- In 1925, Hannah helped organize the Association of Professional Ball Players of America, created to assist former professional baseball players who are injured, elderly, or destitute. The APBPA is still in existence today!
Near the end of his career, Truck Hannah was interviewed about the rigors of being a catcher. He said during his 30 years in baseball he'd broken every finger on his right hand at least twice. "What the hell, it's all part of the game," he said. "It sure was fun while it lasted. Even with busted hands and fingers and everything else, I wouldn't have missed it for the world."

2023.06.05 14:27 justaddwater1000 Non public school
Hi, I have an 11yo nephew that came to live with my family under pretty rough circumstances. He mom died when he was born, and he has a poker hand full of ACES. Up until his grandmother got custody in Dec 2021, he received essentially no services despite showing a lot of problematic behaviors from a young age.
In summer 2022 he was diagnosed with level 1 autism. He started ABA therapy in the fall and is in it rn 12-15 hrs a week. He has been kicked out of a few schools and a decent number of camps/extracurriculars for behavior. He experienced so much bullying at his current school that he had to switch P.E. classes, and can only go out for lunch and recess if he stays with specific kids (who I think the school counselor tasked with this). Before these restrictions were in place, he was pantsed by another student in front of a group.. but that sounds like only the worst of many bad interactions.
He has made a few friends in his life, but nothing close or long term. He absolutely wants to, but he just doesn't get it. If he gets called out on specific things he did that made the other kids annoyed/irritated/offended, he gets very agitated and denies he did anything wrong.
He is in attachment therapy as well as all the ABA. We are also in parent training and family therapy. It is still hard as f* to deal with this kid at home, so I have a sense of his problems at school.
He will be starting middle school next year and I don't know what to do. Private school isn't really an option bc they can kick him out- it has already happened once, and it sucked. Our zoned school has 500 kids per grade, and his special Ed teacher essentially told me (off record) he'll be eaten alive there. So our options are a small charter (50 kids per grade, 2 classes total, big emphasis on social-emotionsl learning) or non-public school specifically for high-functioning autistic kids.
He did a full-day visit of the nps last week and he said he had a good time, he even made a friend! But he called the kids 'weird' and said he thinks his friend has trouble keeping friends. He said he doesn't want to go to the nps and wants to go to 'a bigger school' - he is very sensitive to the autism label and so I just pitched it to him as 'a smaller school' when we did the visit.
I don't know if he can handle even the charter. His current school has a VERY inclusive philosophy, and ever since I brought up nps his special Ed teacher has been saying he's doing great. It does seem the bullying has gone down, but according to my nephew now he's starting to fight with his minder kids..last week one of them told him"this is why no one likes you". School is over in a week and they'll be done with him, but I won't. I don't want him to crash and burn out of another school situation, but is nps too restrictive?

2023.06.05 14:26 Humble-Champion-1069 Examples of effective machine learning model implementation
Machine learning (ML) has become a major part of artificial intelligence. It plays a key role in an array of applications including data mining, image recognition, and natural language processing. But do you know ML is useful in our daily lives too? Yes, machine learning includes a group of algorithms to make the software systems accurate. The seamless advanced techniques in ML show astounding results.Let us look at the examples of Machine Learning Model Implementation USA and the way it impacts the world.
1. Healthcare
Machine learning deals with diagnostic issues in healthcare and medicine. Disease recognition, patient management, and data analysis are some major areas where ML is used. Analyzing inappropriate medical data is also a part of machine learning.A

2023.06.05 14:14 supramike18 Cursed/Haunted lamp.
So this is a story from my childhood, some friends of my grandparents, a very sweet elderly couple, had this crazy story about this lamp they have had for decades and I never thought much more of it other than being a fun story until I experienced it personally, so the lamp itself is very old, I wanna say 1910s, and what it does according to their story that never changes and has been happening for over 40 years, the bulb will randomly come up missing and be found somewhere in the house, from simple places like in the middle of the floor or in the drawer under the lamp itself,t o absurd places like some examples that were told were in the bathroom sink, the ice maker in the fridge, in the toilet tank {only found when the toilet was opened years after they replaced the bulb when they gave up searching for that one) and even INSIDE THE LAMPS BASE which takes some effort with a screwdriver to even open. Now I always laughed at the story when I was little, they would joke about the latest silly spot they found the bulb, but I became a believer in that story after seeing it for myself, this took place back when I was 11 years old, my grandmother ends up in hospital for a bit, so I'm staying with her friends temporarily, I'm in the guest bedroom with this damned lamp, I had been there for about 2 days at this point and the lamp was always on even through the night (I preferred it on anyways) well on the 3rd night at 3am (yes I know that's a cliche time for paranormal shenanigans) I'm under the blankets not really awake but not quite asleep, suddenly the room cars dark which startled me fully awake, the door hadn't opened and no one came in, I grabbed my only decent light source which was me taking my Nintendo DS and cranking up the screen brightness, I go over and sure enough that lightbulb was gone, actually genuinely freaked out now I got back under the blanket and tried to distract myself playing on the DS, didn't sleep at all, come morning after a bit of searching the bulb was in the drawer of the table the lamp was sat on, the old man said this is the most common place it tends to end up, I get freaked out more because this drawer is on metal rails that made a hell of a squeal when he opened and closed it which I would have easily heard so somehow this ended up in there without the drawer opening while I was right there, to set the scene the lamp is on a small end table right next to the head of the bed, so 2 feet at most from my head where I was laying when the light went out, sadly I can't follow up on this anymore, I haven't heard from them since my grandmothers funeral in 2013 they were in their 90s by then and I assume have passed as last I went by that house the car in the driveway was something that old couple wouldn't have touched with a 10ft pole lol (if it matters at all the time of my personal experience was summer of 2005) just wonder if anyone has any similar stories or experiences, I would love to know, I know there's at least one because reading it is what got me motivated to actually tell my own story. I also have had a few other incidents after that of random objects in my own home being somewhere else when I know for sure that's not where I put them (even one case I had literal evidence that the object was right where I had put it only to find it not in that spot not long after!), but its not the same object every time like the case with this lamp
(Apologies for any poor grammaspelling/formatting typing isn't my greatest skill)

When Is the Release Date for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse?
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was one of the many films to get hit by a delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic, moving from its original date of April 8, 2022, to October 7, 2022. That's the date seen in the above trailer, but the film has since seen another significant delay since then. Now the film is officially set for release on June 2, 2023. Hopefully, we won't see another delay, but if it means getting a sequel that lives up to the sky-high heights of the original, we'll gladly wait.
Miles, Gwen, Peter, and several dozen other Spider-people will be swinging into action when Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse premieres on Friday, June 2nd, 2023. This almost undoubtedly gives Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and The Flash a run for their money as the biggest superhero movie event of the Summer.
Is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in Theaters?
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be available in theaters starting this afternoon with a wider release date of June 2.
Not only was Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse the subject of rave reviews, but it also pulled in some gargantuan levels of cash at the international box office, with a final tally that quadrupled the film's ninety-million dollar budget. With incredible success like that, it's only natural that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse would also be taking advantage of a theatrical release. That is the case, as the upcoming film will be exclusively available in theaters when it premieres on June 2nd, 2023.
Where To Watch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
As of now, the only way to watch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is to head out to a movie theater when it releases on Friday, June 2. You can find a local showing on Fandango.
Otherwise, you’ll just have to wait for it to become available to purchase or rent on digital platforms like Vudu, Apple, Amazon and YouTube, or become available to stream on Netflix and Disney+.
How to Watch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
There's been no official announcement regarding Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse's streaming release date, though we know it will eventually be released on Netflix, rather than Disney+.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will most certainly come to not only streaming, but quite probably physical media, as well. It’s just a matter of when that’s going to be, and we can make some pretty good guesses on a streaming release window for Across the Spider-Verse. While we currently don’t know the exact online release date for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, we do know the movie will be released in cinemas worldwide, including the US and UK, on June 2nd, 2023.
Where will Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse stream specifically? Due to an ongoing deal between Netflix and Sony (remember that these movies are not produced by Disney), Across the Spider-Verse will see Netflix as the streaming home for the film when it finishes its theatrical run. It will no doubt make its way to Disney+ eventually, as Disney and Sony do have an agreement for Disney to include Sony’s Spider-Man content in their offerings, but that will at least be some time after Across the Spider-Verse has come out on Netflix.
When Will Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Be on Streaming?
The Spider-Man franchise is in a pretty interesting place regarding streaming. The various films of Sony's franchise have typically been scattered across multiple services. That said, following a historic deal between Sony and Disney, the many stories of Peter Parker and beyond are now available on Disney+. This includes the original Sam Raimi trilogy, the first Amazing Spider-Man film, and, starting mid-May, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Venom. Notably absent from the Disney-streaming platform so far are The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man: Far From Home, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Morbius, and most significant of all, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
Some of the films are not currently available on the service because Sony has pre-existing partnerships with Starz, as that's where most of the absent films are available to stream. That is except for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which is instead only streaming on Fubo TV and FX Now.
If Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse comes to Disney+ before Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse's theatrical run concludes, that would make the House of Mouse's service a likely contender for a streaming release. However, Sony has also historically partnered with Netflix for streaming releases. Up until recently, that's where Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was available to stream, and Sony still brings their other big releases to the service, like Bullet Train and The Woman King.
Will Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Be On Netflix?
Yes, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will eventually be on Netflix as a result of a deal inked between the streaming platform and the movie’s distributor, Sony Pictures. The deal gives the streamer U.S. rights to all the company’s theatrical films starting in 2022.
While a streaming release date has not yet been announced, we can make an estimate based on another recent Sony film. The Woman King was released in theaters on Sept. 16, 2022, before it came to Netflix on Feb. 16, 2023 — around five months after it debuted. If Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse follows the same pattern, we could be watching from the comfort of our homes by early November 2023.
However, a digital release date should arrive much sooner. The Storm Reid-led thriller Missing was released in theaters on Jan. 20 before becoming available to purchase or rent on March 7 — about 45 days after its debut. By that logic, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse should come to digital by late mid-July 2023.
Will Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Be On Disney Plus?
Yes, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will eventually come to Disney+ due to the company’s deal with Sony Pictures Releasing, which allows it access to all of Sony’s theatrical releases following their “Pay 1 TV Window.” This means that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be released in theaters, then on digital, then on Netflix and finally on Disney platforms — meaning it’s going to be a while until this happens.
Will Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Be On HBO Max?
No, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will not be on HBO Max since it’s not a Universal Pictures movie. Last year, the company released its films in theaters and on the streamer on the same day. However, they now allow a 45-day window between the theatrical release and the streaming release.
Is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Available On Hulu?
Viewers are saying that they want to view the new animation movie Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse on Hulu. Unfortunately, this is not possible since Hulu currently does not offer any of the free episodes of this series streaming at this time. It will be exclusive to the MTV channel, which you get by subscribing to cable or satellite TV services. You will not be able to watch it on Hulu or any other free streaming service.

The upcoming sequel's predecessor requires no explanation, as Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse not only ensnared audiences and critics alike but also caught a prestigious Oscar win with a Best Animated Feature award. With "New York's one and only Spider-Man," Miles Morales (Shameik Moore), now becoming a household name, fans of the first film eagerly awaited the day they could see young Miles swing into the Spider-Verse again.

This time Miles will not only be reunited with Gwen Stacey (Hailee Steinfeld) and Peter B. Though some of the other variants in this secretive organization view Miles as a nuisance more than anything else, they'll have to learn to put those apprehensions aside if they hope to save the multiverse from an all-new terrifying threat. As the release date for the sequel to one of the most celebrated Spider-Man films ever made crawls closer and closer.

When Will Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Be on DVD and Blu-ray?

With theatrical films, on average, coming to streaming sooner than ever (usually ninety days after theatrical release), we'll likely see Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse get a DVD, and Blu-ray release no later than Fall 2023.

2023.06.05 14:01 structura1 HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO REMODEL A BATHROOM IN LOS ANGELES?
| LEARN MORE ABOUT THE COST OF YOUR LOS ANGELES BATHROOM REMODEL Ready for your renovation?! Do you feel like you need more information before you can say yes to your bathroom remodel? The team at Structura Remodeling is here to support you. Having provided accurate estimates for bathroom renovations for over 16 years, we understand the details that go into creating a dream California bathroom. Today, we’ll explore the average cost of a California bathroom remodel in Los Angeles. THERE ARE A FEW KEY THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN RESEARCHING THE COST OF A BATHROOM REMODEL. 1. Bathroom Size – The size of your bathroom will dictate the cost of materials and labor necessary to complete a renovation. Once you know your bathroom dimensions, you can estimate the pricing for flooring, cabinets, etc. This is where you have the most opportunity to control the budget. Whether you choose high-end, median-priced, or budget fixtures, cabinetry, and flooring will determine the pricing of your bathroom remodel. 2. Los Angeles Trends- Know what’s going on in your neighbourhood. If you plan to stay in your house for the next thirty years, then It’s ok to use any style and materials that make you happy. If you plan to sell within the next five to ten years, find out what is popular, looks modern, and appeals to most people when you sell your home. Go to a few open houses or check with a local realtor. They should be happy to help. After all, you could be a future client. 3. Budget – Again, your choices will affect your budget. Will you choose prefabricated cabinetry or high-end custom cabinets? The custom cabinets are more expensive but will last longer and give you more design options. Are you installing a stand-alone tub and shower or just a shower? Marble tile flooring or laminate? Whatever your taste, budget, and choices are, remember always to have a 10-15% contingency plan for unexpected expenses. For example, if you open up the walls and find plumbing or electrical that is not up to code and needs to be replaced. This is common in renovation projects. HOW TO FEEL CONFIDENT IN HIRING A CONTRACTOR Hiring a contractor can be a confusing process. You hear stories from friends and family about frustrating experiences they had in hiring the wrong contractor. Here is how to avoid the mistake of hiring the wrong contractor. - Check credentials- California has specific requirements for Contractors. Make sure that anyone you hire is licensed, insured, and bonded. Check online with the Contractors State License Board website. Also, if you are a member of Angie’s list, you can check with them.
- Online review and referrals- Make sure the contractor has been in business for at least five years so you can check their track record with customers and the Better Business Bureau. Business owners can buy online reviews, so make sure they are from actual customers. Speak to neighbors and friends. Get referrals from satisfied customers.
- Get three bids to compare. – The more specific you can be about your choices for cabinets, fixtures, flooring, the more accurate the bids will be. You have to be able to compare apples with apples. If you get a low-ball bid, ask the right questions to see what’s included and what’s not. What is their experience? Do they have licensed electricians and plumbers on staff?
HERE ARE SOME ADDITIONAL HELPFUL HINTS: Know the square footage of your space. The size of your bathroom can play an important factor in the estimate of your renovation. Are you planning to remodel your master bath? Or do you have a half bath that needs an upgrade? In either scenario have the square footage is a great first step. What’s your style? Do you tend to appreciate modern, clean lines, or do you love the look of shabby chic? Knowing your style will help get an estimate of the fixtures, materials. This will also help with the initial bathroom design. Are you looking for a walk-in shower, or are you more excited by having that perfect bathtub where your Los Angeles bathroom turns into your spa? A shower vs. a bathtub will also affect the average estimate you receive for your renovation. https://preview.redd.it/dhr7b2qtx64b1.png?width=746&format=png&auto=webp&s=e5c2c3170ef7d20b09badb8a51910c307e5443e1 AVERAGE COST OF A LOWER-END BATHROOM REMODEL: Consider you are looking to remodel your Los Angeles bathroom and work within a budget. There are options to keep your estimate for your renovation on the low end. An average price for a lower-end bathroom remodeling works out to be between $12,000 and $15,000. With Structura, financing is always an option. The simplest way to adjust your renovation cost is by selecting prefabricated or re-purposed counters and cabinets. Fixtures come in a wide variety of finishes and price ranges to fit every budget. Lighting fixtures are a good place to save money. Often there are copies of higher-end fixtures that will give you the look you are craving. Also, remember that costs are equated to square footage for both labor and materials. That’s why there is a price difference between remodeling your mater bath vs. your half bath. https://preview.redd.it/na74xgkux64b1.png?width=701&format=png&auto=webp&s=2d972b70fd7d294e593de2cab9f355e740a45a40 THE AVERAGE COST OF A MID-RANGE LOS ANGELES BATHROOM REMODEL: If your renovation budget is more flexible, there are some things that you can achieve within the mid-range bathroom remodel. The average estimate for a mid-range bathroom remodel is approximately $22,000 to $30,000. Some of the differences you’ll see with a renovation at this price point are wood cabinetry, up-leveled shower fixtures, and the opportunity to play with more variety of titles and stones for counters, flooring, and showers. The tile selection opens up huge design possibilities, especially when considering your bathroom flow and ensuring that you’re honoring California design trends. https://preview.redd.it/l8e4kf9vx64b1.png?width=705&format=png&auto=webp&s=aa169bb097defa1d52a23ea7bf4bfdcc057cc499 THE AVERAGE COST FOR A HIGH-END BATHROOM REMODEL: If you’re ready to invest in creating the bathroom of your dreams, you may find yourself in the higher-end budget for the cost of your bathroom remodel. The average estimate for a high-end bathroom renovation is between $55,000 and $75,000. Remember, financing is available, especially if you’re a Veteran or a Senior Citizen. If your Los Angeles remodel falls in the high-end, you can pretty much expect to dream…design and build your perfect bathroom. You’ll most likely have the square footage to include both a stand-up shower and a soaking tub. Explore all the new technology. Customize your shower with light, sound, and temperature settings that operate by voice controls or your iPad. Get your morning news, weather, and stock market report with your morning show, or call up your morning playlist. Add a steam function to your rain shower. Also, add the perfect mood lighting for your new home spa experience. Choose Eco-friendly materials and heated towel racks. You may want to choose high-end stone, marble, or glass counters and contemporary designs that fit the California vibe as well as the upgraded fixtures. Wake up and step into your master bathroom, take a rain shower and end your day with a long soak in your tub. Enjoy a glass of wine and rinse off the day’s stress at home. If you're looking to redesign your bathroom in Los Angeles, finding a reputable general contractor is essential. A Los Angeles general contractor for bathroom redesign can help you create the perfect space that meets your needs and exceeds your expectations. submitted by structura1 to u/structura1 [link] [comments] |
2023.06.05 13:59 Tattsand Tried to tell my partner I'm pregnant; he thought I was leaving him
Here's a doozy for you. My disastrous pregnancy announcement, I thought I'd share with people who might get a laugh. So the day I found out I was pregnant, my partner was visiting friends. I thought that was perfect, it gave me a day to prepare an announcement! First child was at school so it was great. I go down the shops, buy a onesie, and a card that says "I love you dad" that comes with pencils to be coloured in. I do 3 tests, because I wanted to tape them to the card (I wrapped them in tape before sticking on so they weren't pissy and he did love the card he wants to laminate it). I get my daughter to color it in and I write a lovely message.
Anyway it gets late, I misunderstood his plans, he is still there playing video games at 9:30pm and I have work the next day. I text him and tell him I have something important to tell him and it has to be in person ;).
I know I could have waited but we'd been trying to conceive and the next day I had work, I couldn't keep it in that long when we want it so bad! Anyway, I think since we've been trying it will be very obvious and he'll rush home excited to hear it for real. An hour later he calls saying he's about to head home, begging me to just tell him. I realise maybe I've given off the wrong impression, I tell him it's good news! I say just trust me! He agrees, and drives home. He walks in the door, and bursts into tears! Oh shit.
I quickly give him the card, forgetting the onesie all together. He gets up, cries uncontrollably hugging me, tells me he thought I was calling him home to dump him. Then finally realises what's going on and he finally smiled 🤣🤣 My God. Telling him was what I looked forward to most, unfortunately it was a shit show.
He says I was super ominous and he is a worrier with admittedly low self esteem. We laugh about it now. But what a shit show.

2023.06.05 13:56 Appropriate_Ad_9260 Needing some advice on my finances
Hi Everyone,
Apologies as this is a long read,
I'm looking for some advice on my finances and wondering if there's anywhere I could improve on / missing anything that could really help me.
Bit of Background:Me (26M) and my partner (25F) are DINK renting an apartment, which we are definitely here for the next 2 years (1st May 2025 is when our current lease ends).
Currently, I earn 36k PA and she is on 28k (Rising to 30k by year-end). Both wfh jobs. She has some expenses in which we're paying off the flat so her savings atm are being built from scratch.
We both have student loans to repay (Welsh gov helps a bunch with this however). I pay around £58 amonth back currently. My take home after NI, TAX etc is £2,276.36. I put £100 into my pension so far in which my employer covers any contribs up to 5%.
My accounts:I have 2 accounts: one for direct debits, where I get paid, everyday use etc. This one usually has 4-5k sitting in there, its a Halifax account I've had since I was 16. The other is a First Direct savings account where I've put a max of £3600 in (7% AER when it matures) and another account with £7400 - so my total savings at the moment is £10k
Expenses and debts:My partner is clear of any debts. She had £7K loan a few years ago which has been settled a couple of years back, and she has a small amount credit card to help her score. Myself, I've deliberately over years accrued some credit debt, paid majority off, balanced transferred to a bank which offers better etc to build my credit score. Sitting pretty strong at 822 on ClearScore currently.
With our flat expenses, us sharing a car, pet insurance, food etc - core outgoings are around £741.49 a month each. My personal expenses (subscriptions that are essential - not like netflix!!), haircut, Credit card DD's, phone insurance, groceries etc - comes to about £233.26 a month. Personally, leftover a month I have around £1300. I put £300 into that First Direct savings account as that's the max they allow me to get the 7% interest on. Even after that, I should have around £900 / month.
Current Credit Card is an MBNA account with a £4400 limit (0% for 20 months), in which I've utulised £1700 MTD (well below 50%) - we also have an Ikea loan for a sofa which has £650 remaining. When we moved in we deferred around half of the purchases to credit card / BNPL services. I also have paypal credit with a limit of £1200, in which there is £150 that's owed back, so barely anything in the grand scheme.
Overall, I'd like to think my/our financial situation is pretty good - and should improve with our earning potential growing in our respective jobs. We have discussed that in 2 years, we will start exploring the idea of getting a home together, as we'd love our dog to have a garden and start a family there. Given that our careers have not long started and the housing market isn't great right now, we're not in a rush to get on the ladder (I'm aware time in the market usually is better that timing the market). Reality is that we're happy with our situation and believe we can save pretty well and have what we need currently. We live in a lovely coastal spot and we had a really good deal that we locked in with our landlady for 2 years. Realistcally, I'd like to have around around 30k personally when we're looking for a home. There may be some inheritance both sides should the worst happen to grandparents which we don't consider and would rather them around, of course! We're not relying on it. Should we not meet these loose targets in 2 years than that's okay, as long as we've strengthened our financial position year on year.
Question is:
Me personally, what could I do with my money that can improve anything? Is there something I can be done about where my savings is going or how much I am saving where I could improve? I know, I could probably put £500 in savings, which is something I'm considering but would like to pay for some things first.
Any feedback or recommendations is welcome, and appreciate anyone's time reading this!
Cheers!

2023.06.05 13:54 TheAnon4301 Any suggestions on how to keep people out a room with no lock?
I have a family member visiting right now that I don’t trust further than I can see him. Neither does my other relative who lives here (also owns the place) is stupidly still allowing him to be in our home for the next two days while we’re at work and just hoping he doesn’t do anything wrong..
I don’t have that hope, and I don’t care to. I was originally under the impression that he’d only be here for the weekend where someone would be here with him until this morning i was told he’d be here till Tuesday..My only issue is that my room has no lock on it, and to get it changed I’d have to do it myself with my luck something stupid might happen but im still considering this option, only issue there Is there’s no guarantee he’ll leave long enough for me to run to the store and get one, and install it before I have to go to work.
Just wondering if their is anyway to lock this door, I know my options are very limited because whatever I do has to be done from the outside of the door. Even if this has to be the most makeshift way possible, I’ll take it!
I can’t think of anything and I know it’s probably nearly impossible but I figure it wouldn’t hurt to see if somehow someone had a good suggestion.
