2023.06.02 10:13 ItemPure9261 Someone please help w advice??
Around 3:40AM today I got a call from a random number and a request to join a FaceTime call multiple times. I have a bad habit of not saving numbers, and have a bunch of old coworkers who’s numbers I have in my text messages but not in my phone technically. So I pick up, there’s no noise on the other line until I hear a guys voice. I say “Hello?” a few times and make a comment about how late it is, and he says he was just trying to call a friend. My friends tend to prank call me a lot so I start laughing and say “Like 4 times?”. He then goes “You sound like a dyke. Lmao your name is and you live in a dirty ass apartment. you’re ghetto!” I call him weird and hang up, he ends up texting me “Nice bedroom.”
Not sure if this is a dangerous situation, definitely uncomfortable. But I’m nervous I might be over reacting despite how scared I am. What should I do?

2023.06.02 10:13 thesunsetflip Hypothetically when could the Sedins have played until?
Just re-watching footage of the Sedins last game, just reminded me of the fact that was only like 6 months before Petey’s debut. Hypothetically if the Sedins had just decided they didn’t wanna stop playing, I wonder how long they would be effective until? Their last seasons they both produced efficiently as top 6 scorers, especially during the Sea of Granlunds era they would definitely find a home on the roster. If they had just decided to keep going I wonder how long they would’ve lasted? They’re notorious for their work ethic and discipline, I’m sure they’re in better shape than some current Canucks.
They’re 42 now so I highly doubt they’d still be able to play, but part of me wonders could we have seen Henrik Sedin center JT Miller? Or even at least have Petey on the same PP unit as them. Remember how lethal Petey was in his rookie season with that one timer on the powerplay? 10G in first 10GP wasn’t it? Imagine if he had Hank and Danny dishing it to him for that first year. It was only 6 months after the Sedins played their last game as well so I’m sure they could hold on for one more year at least?
Either way they had amazing careers, just curious at how long they’d be able to stick around in the game if they wanted to.

2023.06.02 10:13 WilliamFids Does it seem excessive?
Folks, I’m currently following the guidance of an online trainer, who is trying to push me a little further than what I think is necessary and is not providing any flexibility.
First, my question - followed by some background. Is 800 calories far too aggressive for someone that is already sitting around 13-15% BF?
A bit of background - I’m a 32 y.o male that currently weighs 72kg (I started out on the program 6 or so weeks ago at 78kg).
I joined the program to lean up and lose the fluff that I had around the ab area and then hopefully tone up a little all within the 12 week program. I’m not delusional and expecting shredded abs, nor time for a decent bulk all within the 12 weeks. I guess I mainly joined to learn what it takes to lean up and then put some muscle without gaining the fat back.
I am proud of the fact I now have resting abs and have lost over 6 kilos (having gone from say 18% BF to around 13-15%) by sticking to an already fairly aggressive nutritional program.
I’ve let the trainer know I’m sitting where I want to in terms of leanness, however, he assures me I need to drop another couple of kilograms before I can consider focusing on a bulk phase and wants to cut me to 800 calories per day.
In fairness, I do have a fairly sedentary job, but I’m concerned 800 calories for a male that is already 72kg at 180cm, when I’m also doing daily cardio, is pushing it a little and is potentially damaging.
Am I being a sook or is this a little crazy?

2023.06.02 10:13 alex_0528 Efficient memory use when fitting preprocessing layers
I have a regression problem where I'm using a DNN to predict passengers on a train based on a few signals from e.g. ticketing, historic journey patterns, weather, location. I have a range of numerical and categorical features feeding the model and so would like to include preprocessing layers using
tf.keras.layers.Normalization and
tf.keras.layers.StringLookup. My issue comes when trying to train on an Azure Databricks cluster using a single driver
Standard_NC4as_T4_v3 as I cannot fit the training dataset into memory to fit the Normalization layer using the
adapt method. I've looked at potentially using
tf.data.Dataset.from_generator but I can't work out how that would work with the Normalization layer. Has anybody got any advice/tips on how to do this, or any other thoughts on how I could handle Normalization without having to pass the entire training dataset?

2023.06.02 10:13 jnnnle I was suppose to be a mom, but I’m hopeful
My husband and I are newly married. We conceived on our honeymoon in Bali. Almost too perfect, right? We were early along, eager, excited, happy, and family was happy meet the new baby.
One month ago, I miscarried. It was difficult and painful. A few days later, I developed an infection and was in the ER two more times after the initial visit. Just injury after tragedy on my journey of motherhood.
My body is weak, I’m tired and restless. Still grieving yet doing my best to feel stronger a little more each day. It’s been cold here lately and this morning my husband warmed up our home when he woke, so I could sleep in longer. I woke up pleasant and was wondering why the house felt so nice, then realized it was my sweet husband’s doing. This may seem like a little thing, but it wasn’t to me.
Even though the loss of our baby has been hard on him, he’s been here for me. Through the toughest bits. Being thoughtful and protective. He advocates for my health when I’m too tired to. I want to praise my husband to you all, he often does little things for me that makes me feel loved and cherished.
If your husband is as thoughtful as mine, I’d encourage you to go give him a kiss because love grows best in homes like ours!
For those pregnant, enjoy your pregnancy (I understand it can be difficult at times) these moments are special and I hope you have a partner that reminds you of that from time to time.

2023.06.02 10:12 1v1MeKissing Question: About flower hybridization.
I've recently took a big interest in flower gardening and really wanted to try to make a hybrid, mainly cause I think it's a fun challenge plus it would be super cool if I got to name a plant, problem is that I'm not too knowledgeable on the topic yet even though I've spent a lot of time researching it for the past week, just the shear amount of information is a bit overwhelming so I don't really know where to start with learning about it.
I realize that it's a bit out of my league right now but again I think it would be super cool if I could do it, I also realize It's pretty likely that I fail but I don't really care about that, I really just wanna know is if it's theoretically possible, also if there are any improvements to the process that I can do (if it is possible) would be helpful to know.
I decided to on trying to cross Podranea ricasoliana with Tecoma stans so I asked Gpt-4 to give me a step by step process so I wanted to know if you guys think it could possibly work:
- Choose two plants that you want to hybridize, Make sure they are healthy and mature enough to produce flowers and seeds.
- Prepare a suitable growing environment for both plants. They both prefer full sun and well-drained soil. You can grow them in pots or in the ground, but make sure they are close enough to each other for cross-pollination to occur. You may need to adjust the watering and fertilizing schedules according to the needs of each plant.
- Wait for both plants to flower at the same time. This may be tricky, as Podranea ricasoliana flowers from November to March, while Tecoma stans flowers from late spring to the first frost. You may need to manipulate the photoperiod or temperature of the plants to induce flowering at the same time.
- Once both plants are in bloom, collect some pollen from the anthers of Tecoma stans using a small brush or cotton swab. Carefully transfer the pollen to the stigma of Podranea ricasoliana. Repeat this process for several flowers on different branches of Podranea ricasoliana. This is called artificial cross-pollination.
- Label the pollinated flowers with a tag or marker to keep track of them. Protect them from insects and other pollinators by covering them with a paper bag or mesh netting.
- Wait for the pollinated flowers to develop into fruits. This may take several weeks or months depending on the plant species. Monitor the fruits for signs of ripening or splitting.
- When the fruits are ripe, harvest them and extract the seeds. Clean and dry the seeds and store them in a cool and dry place until you are ready to plant them.
- Plant the seeds in a suitable growing medium such as potting soil or vermiculite. Keep them moist and warm until they germinate. This may take several days or weeks depending on the seed viability and dormancy.
- Once the seeds germinate, transplant them into individual pots or containers and grow them under suitable conditions. Observe their growth and development and look for any signs of hybrid characteristics such as intermediate leaf shape, flower color, or growth habit.
- If you are lucky enough to obtain a successful hybrid, you can propagate it by cuttings or tissue culture and name it according to the International Code of Nomenclature for Cultivated Plants.
Anyways help would be very much appreciated, also if anyone has any good sources on plant breeding and hybridization, or information that would be useful for flower gardening or gardening in general that would also be a great help.

2023.06.02 10:12 AnxiousWeeping How do I finish subjects that incurred an INC grade?
Hello. I am a sophomore student (or rather incoming third year because Academic Year 2022- 2023 is over) and I incurred grades of INC in two subjects during my first year of college. May I ask how they are completed? How does the process work?
I actually contacted the two professors of the two respective subjects (Path-Fit and Math respectively) already. I lost contact with the first one because she did not respond to the go-signal of the Dean of her college to help me complete even if it was past her set completion period. The second one made me sit in with Electronics Engineering students (I am from Faculty of Arts and Letters) to help me complete but I did not continue because I had a lot of groupwork to focus on during that time and it was not "officially" part of my school calendar. The reason for that was because my Math professor gave me an INC rather than a 5 even if I passed all the requirements (I just got low scores on all of them) because she said she understood the difficulties of paying extra fees. I guess that is nice and considerate and all but it kind of complicated matters because it meant that I had to go through it all over again rather than just finish one last task (which she explained is what usually happens to students who have INC grades?). I schedule sent them an email because I am scared of their responses but I will be sure to get in contact with them again.
Any advice will be appreciated. This is my first post on this subreddit and if there is anything wrong with this post (like the flair, for example), then I will gladly edit or let it be deleted. Thanks.

2023.06.02 10:12 mentalillne Nuisance from smoking cigarettes and marijuana vape on our block
For over two years, almost every day and several times a day, a person comes to our block and smokes cigarettes and marijuana vapes. They would usually stand at the same spots to smoke, and almost always litter the cigarette butt on the road. The spots are less than 20 feet away from the windows of houses on the block.
We have video records of them smoking both cigarettes and some vape, and littering of the cigarette butts. We never approached them out of safety concern. We find it past annoying, sometimes anxious and concerned that they're scouting the area with criminal intent. We don't open our windows to prevent the smoke entering our homes, and out of concern that they'll see it as an opening to enter our premises. I've spoken to a therapist because of anxiety developed from this smoker's continued presence.
What actions can I take against this smoker? We live in California. We found out they've been unemployed for several years after working at a well-paying salaried job for several years in a different area.

2023.06.02 10:12 Technical_Artichoke5 Do I really need SPF everyday?
I used to never wear sunscreen in my 20s and had great skin. Now my skin is not as clear as it used to be, so I’ve started a simple skincare routine and wearing SPF when I know I’m going out in the sun.
However, I’m just not sure I need it for my everyday routine. We use blackout curtains. I drive to work for 5 minutes and it’s dark most of the year. My workplace has no windows. I drive 5 minutes back and it’s usually daylight. When I’m home, the blinds and curtains are drawn. I barely spend any time outside during the weekday. It feels silly applying twice a day for my very short exposure to the sun. Do I need SPF on these days?

2023.06.02 10:12 Lotaxi Small Batch, Custom Finish - Machined Jewelry Value
Hey all,
I'm a machinist trying my hand at jewelry design. I work with a lot of medical grade titanium, and I've been turning some designs on a CNC lathe with some spare bits of material. Here's some
examples of things I've been working on. So far it's simple earrings and pendants, but I'm working on incredibly fine finishing methods that I think will make my designs look nice. I've invested a fair bit of time, money, and effort into developing an electropolishing and anodization setup so that I can get a very nice end result on my pieces.
Looking around here, I see a lot of people with handmade jewelry or unique cast pieces that are finished with hand tools. I'm wondering about the value of something a bit more automated. Essentially, a part of me wonders if there might be something some might perceive as "cheap" about things that come out of a machine. I'm not mass producing thousands of pieces in a day or anything, but while it takes me a few hours to design something I like, it's only a couple more to program, cut, and finish several pieces. For example, it took me 2 hours to program and cut a batch of 7 pairs of one of my earring designs today. It'll be a couple more between polishing and anodizing before they're ready to gift or sell. Something in the back of my mind worries about what I have to imagine is a much lower time investment compared to a lot of jewelry makers.
I think there's something to be said about the unique and precise shapes that I can get out of my lathe. It's a different feel from cast jewelry, I think. There's still that voice in the back of my head wondering if they'll sell well because they're not as unique as many jewelry makers, especially between pieces. Something about the low time investment makes me worry that they'll be seen as cheap. Are there any opinions on this?

2023.06.02 10:12 No-Blackberry-3945 Renting clubs on holiday for a stag advice
Looking for general advice and wondering if I've messed up my choice basically.
I'm a high handicapper who plays casually, I generally shoot between 102-112, using a set of Slazengers I bought about ten years ago. They do the job but as I'm trying to get into golf more I'm planning to upgrade this year to try and break 100.
We're going on a stag do and I've rented a set of Callaway Warbirds with graphite shafts. The same clubs are one of my upgrade choices so it's a good time to try them out. I'm also considering the Callaway Edge's from Costco or getting fitted for a reasonably cheap set but that's a different post altogether.
My worry is that because I'm not a big hitter, I've opted to try the graphite shafts (other than driver, 5w and 3/4hybrid I haven't hit anything with a graphite shaft) and I'm going to lose all accuracy on my irons but gain distance when I can probably course manage a bit better with steel. Should I change back to the steel shafts or should I be ok as long as I don't try to crush every shot? My 5w and hybrid aren't too bad overall but driver, like most high handicappers, I'm prone to a slice.
Also, any fun ideas for the course for the stag? Pranks, forfeits etc welcome.
(Any reviews on the club's also welcome!)
TIA

2023.06.02 10:12 wicked-iridescence always bites me I'm desperate pls help
I love him so much but working from home is literally impossible sometimes. He'll bite and attack me (NOT in a cute way. I mean, obviously it's cute because it's him but he actually attacks and it actually hurts, like I bleed).
I play with him enough, feed him enough, open a window or give him catnip (even one that's supposed to relax him) because that works sometimes... but I'm just at a loss tbh. He even has automatic toys that move on their own and stuff. Again, works sometimes but often enough that I'm making a whole post.
My boyfriend will do time-outs sometimes too, or I will when I'm at a loss and very busy, but that doesn't seem to be helping long-term.
Clean water always, clean water always.... just what do I do

2023.06.02 10:12 ravenrobe Grandparents hate nursery and give me crap about it
Looking for reassurance or advice on this as it is really making me stressed and unhappy.
I have an almost 2 year old. My kid is fantastic. Communicates so well and is generally very happy and content, a real joy to be around.
I work part time and my husband works full time. My kid is in nursery a couple of days a week and loves it. The staff there love him too and always go to great lengths to tell us how much they enjoy having him there. He’s learned so much from being at nursery. It’s going really well.
The issue is that my parents absolutely loathed the idea of him going to nursery. At all. To the point of implying I was a bad parent for sending him. I should also say that while my relationship with them can be problematic, they provide great care for my kid and never deviate from my instructions. I wouldn’t send him if they did. They offered to take him full time, but quickly realised they weren’t physically up to the task. They’re still fairly young but have a few health issues and realised it would be too tiring. We got into a good rhythm of them watching my kid one or two days a week and having him in nursery one or two days. Ideal. Except that every time there’s even a small issue at nursery they start to berate me about how it was a terrible choice.
This week, another child bit my kid on the face. Am I happy about it? No. Do I understand it’s something young kids do? Yes. I’ve spoken to my nursery who assure me they are working with the parents of the other child on this and that they will not allow it to happen again. The other kid went in for a kiss and just got too excited. It happens.
My parents are extremely angry and are flooding me with phone calls and texts to tell me this is unacceptable and I need to ‘deal with it’. It’s my fault. I can’t send him there anymore. They were right and knew this would happen. The whole lot.
My dad especially is a very angry man and is the type to keep shouting and swearing about something until everyone else bends to his will. I hate it. He refuses to acknowledge that biting happens. He says it’s ‘not normal behaviour’.
I suppose I’m just looking for reassurance really that this isn’t my fault. I’m a bit worried that it will happen again, and also worried about my parents reactions when the next ‘issue’ at nursery eventually comes up.
Does anyone else have difficult parents who are super judgemental about how you parent your kids? Do you limit the info you give them? I admit that I wasn’t mentioning this to them and only brought it up because they planned on popping over and I knew they would see the bite mark anyway.

2023.06.02 10:11 Jonicestone The Diplomat magazine exposed Yan Limeng and Guo Wengui as anti-communist swindlers
| Guo Wengui has been arrested in the United States in connection with a $1 billion fraud. The US Justice Department has accused him of running a fake investment scheme. Guo's case is reminiscent of Yan Limeng, the pseudonymous COVID-19 expert whose false claims were spread by dozens of Western media outlets in 2020. Ms. Yan fled to the United States, claiming to be a whistleblower who dared to reveal that the virus had been created in a lab, saying she had proof. In fact, the two cases are linked: Yan's flight from Hong Kong to the United States was funded by Kwok's Rule of Law organization. https://preview.redd.it/kq0gmjz8ck3b1.jpg?width=680&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1f162b9793463d62fd0b1efbb88fa78adda5f7f6 Yan's false paper has not been examined and has serious defects. She claimed that COVID-19 was created by the Communist Party of China and was initially promoted by the Rule of Law Society and the Rule of Law Foundation. Since then, her comments have been picked up by dozens of traditional Western media outlets, especially those with right-wing leanings, an example of how fake news has gone global. Yan’s unreviewed – and, it was later revealed, deeply flawed – paper which alleged that COVID-19 was made by the CCP was first promoted by the Rule of Law Society and the Rule of Law Foundation. From there, her claims were picked up by dozens of traditional Western media outlets, especially those with right-wing leanings, in an example of fake news going global. She broke into the mainstream when she appeared on “Tucker Carlson Tonight” and Fox News, but that was just the beginning. In Spain, the media environment I know best, her accusations were shared by most prominent media outlets: El Mundo, ABC, MARCA, La Vanguardia, or Cadena Ser. Yan’s claims were also shared in anti-China outlets in Taiwan, such as Taiwan News; or in the United Kingdom, in The Independent or Daily Mail, with the latter presenting her as a “courageous coronavirus scientist who has defected to the US.” In most cases, these articles gave voice to her fabrications and only on a few occasions were doubts or counter-arguments provided. Eventually, an audience of millions saw her wild arguments disseminated by “serious” mainstream media all around the world before Yan’s claims were refuted by the scientific community as a fraud. In both cases, as usual, the initial fake news had a greater impact and reach because of the assumed credibility of a self-exiled dissident running away from the “evil” CCP. Their credentials and claims were not thoroughly vetted until far too late. Anti-China news has come to be digested with gusto by Western audiences. Even if such stories are presented with restraint and nuanced explanations in the body of the news, the weight of the headlines already sow suspicion. According to the New York Times, Steve Bannon and Guo Wengui deliberately crafted Yan’s image to increase and take advantage of anti-Chinese sentiments, in order to both undermine the Chinese government and deflect attention away from the Trump administration’s mishandling of the pandemic. These fake news stories still resonate today. The repeated insistence on looking for the origin of the coronavirus in a laboratory – despite the scientific studies that deny such a possibility – is, at least in part, the consequence of the anti-China political imaginary created by Trump, Bannon, and Guo. submitted by Jonicestone to u/Jonicestone [link] [comments] |
