ATP Singles :
Rune vs Ruud :
Yes we’ve had fifth Rune vs Ruud on clay but what about sixth Rune vs Ruud on clay? This is quickly becoming a rivalry despite Casper leading the set count 10-3 and having only lost once. That’s how the conversation goes though when your opponent is younger. Every win they notch feels like a changing of the guard, and even if it isn’t you can be sure Yahoo Sports and the Daily Mail will pump out an article announcing it as such. Complaints about clickbait aside, Rune’s last (and only) win in Rome did feel like he was starting to solve the puzzle. Holger having a better backhand and his service game getting to even made it feel like Ruud would really have to do a lot to win in this matchup. Add in that this season has seen a peculiar lack of form from Ruud at times, and panic mode was somewhat engaged. This is a good chance for Casper to reset the discussion, but it also feels like a must-win.
Ruud beat Jarry in straight sets, which is a tall task for anyone right now. Jarry played great, but Ruud was patient and stubborn from the baseline, and his deep return position made it tough for Jarry to score quick points. The thing that really makes me point to Ruud winning his next match is how reliable he was on the big points. When he needed to, or wasn’t expected to, come up with a big shot, he did. His forehand is getting excellent height when he goes cross-court, and despite his backhand lacking some depth it’s been getting up high on his opponents. If Jarry at 6‘6” had a bit of trouble, it’s probably going to both Rune at 6‘2” (both these listed heights seem fudged in opposite directions). While Ruud was enjoying a return to form and a solid win, Rune was struggling physically in a marathon match against Cerundolo. Their match lasted just a minute under four hours, and despite looking physically fine during points, Rune’s play looked like someone who did not want to run anymore. Late in the fifth the dialogue with his box had started, and I was impressed that he managed to keep his head in the game and make some adjustments, but I was worried at how quick he was to try for return winners and quick infusions of offense. Rune should like himself against Cerundolo in a rally unless he’s struggling, and the recovery here will be an issue if they go deep. To Rune’s credit, he came to net a bunch in the 5th set tiebreak and that was the key to him winning. He applied pressure, and Cerundolo wasn’t able to come up with passes.
With Rune having a long match and physical fatigue, and Ruud having a straight set win, oddsmakers have set this at even odds. I’m inclined to agree. Rune has shown (in his Paris run) the ability to play at a breakneck pace and appear to put out a ton of energy, but still show up to compete the next round, so I don’t think this will be one-sided. I think he’ll be fine in the early-goings, but his willingness to play patient from the baseline will be essential here, and the quick unforced errors he displayed against Cerundolo can’t appear. Ruud plays less aggressive tennis than Cerundolo, and if you force the issue against him he’ll win. He also serves a bit more aggressively than Cerundolo, and is a bit more resilient about not letting changes in the scoreline affect his approach. Since they’ve been scheduled for the night match, and the colder conditions mean the ball really plays a bit slower, so I’m expecting this to be settled with frequent and extended rallies. Rune will win most of the backhand to backhand exchanges, but I think in these slower conditions it’ll be hard to hit through Ruud and physicality will become a factor. Ruud in 4-5.
Zverev vs Etcheverry :
The plot of Oceans 14 will be me getting fooled by Dimitrov one more time. Employing what is clearly the macro plan, Dimitrov has gone ahead and thrown in a few seasons of lackluster results and injury issues. Here, healthy, and playing his best tennis, he finally got me. I believed. Ouch did it hurt to watch this match. I don’t really like to drop negative things in here, but it really was a bad match. Dimitrov started off the match with two double faults, which I don’t even understand. The first few games your range might be off, but you should be firing on all cylinders after a day and a half of prep, and a thorough (these guys are preparing for hours) warm-up. He looked tentative throughout the affair, and it was pretty clear early on that he has a significant mental block against Zverev.
To Zverev’s credit, he did nothing. He hung behind the baseline, and just made it clear that it would take several shots to beat him. Dimitrov had two choices : play hyper aggressive and try to hit clean winners, or temper his offense and constantly hit to the open court because even though Zverev is quick, no one giving up that much space (behind the baseline) should be able to beat a professional tennis player in good form. Dimitrov chose neither. He constantly tried to come up with the next offensive shot, but swung tentatively as if he was assuming Zverev would get them. He had openings, but went safe and retreated back to the middle over and over. It was like watching someone play the role of a hitting partner for Zverev, but unfortunately they were nervous about the occasion and couldn’t keep the ball in the court. It was hard to watch, but I’m ready to get hurt again.
I expect Etcheverry will give Zverev the game that I thought Dimitrov would. Etcheverry and Nishioka was extremely close in the first set, and it felt like Nishioka would have equal chances if he could win the tiebreaker. What ensued was a really high level affair with most rallies being won with winners rather than errors. Etcheverry proved a bit more effective on serve though, and Nishioka appeared to aggravate an injury. He played out the match, which is a really nice gesture to the fans, but Etcheverry is through to his first major quarterfinals and it is well deserved. He has a great service delivery, doesn’t struggle with double faults, doesn’t back off his offense when he has control, and his backhand is very solid. This, I expect, will be Zverev’s to lose, but I think it will take some time to get there. Despite Zverev’s pre-injury passivity, he has shown some signs of life since his return. He’s hitting his forehand significantly better and seems to have (jinx) gotten rid of his deceleration issues. His backhand is still the most reliable shot for him, and he’s taking it down the line more often in this event which is causing extreme problems for his opponent. The double fault issues are there, but it’s a lot easier for me to expect his opponents to create break chances and scoreboard pressure while watching from home than it is to actually put balls in play off his powerful delivery. In short, Zverev is probably the pick to come out of the bottom draw, but this is his hardest test yet.
Etcheverry will not fold, unlike a certain someone whose texts are currently blocked (sorry Grigs but IT’S TOO SOON). His serving won’t falter as Dimitrov’s did, and he’ll be willing to ply his craft and test his offense against Zverev because unlike Dimitrov, he doesn’t have history against this opponent. Where I think he may struggle is returning serve. It can take a while to really read an opponent’s delivery, and since they’re playing in the daytime the ball should be moving a bit. Looking at some of the big servers he’s played, he beat Struff and Hanfmann, but he lost to Tiafoe twice. I am pulling for him, and I think his game will transfer well to grass and hardcourt, but this is probably the end of the road for him. Zverev really does have the next tier of ability in every department here, so only impatience and doubt are likely to send him home. Zverev in 4-5.
WTA Singles :
Haddad Maia vs Jabeur :
At the beginning of this tournament, I really only expected one of these players to be here. Ons Jabeur has had some slight injury issues, and just hasn’t seemed terribly motivated at every event. Her play every round here has improved though, and against Pera she broke out all the tricks. I really love her backhand dropshots down the line because she looks away from them. It mirrors the cross-court slice that some players employ overhand and even in my head I can feel myself starting to step to the left when she does it. Here Ons has her toughest opponent, but it’s one she’s played recently. These two met in Stuttgart, and Jabeur won 3,0. That’s a rough thing to overcome, but it was indoor tennis so Bella may fare better in these slower conditions.
Haddad Maia had a marathon against Sorribes Tormo, and the win meant a lot to her as SST has had her number for years. I think her serving will have to be at the next level here, as Jabeur was able to hold fairly easily in Stuttgart and is pretty fresh for this one. Haddad played for 3 hours and 51 minutes in her last round, and that makes three 3-set marathons in a row after her wins against Shnaider and Alexandrova. Those players had powerful offenses, but they aren’t as consistent or as solid defensively as Jabeur. It’s going to be hard to overcome Jabeur in these conditions, and fatigue is not on her side. Tremendous result for Haddad Maia, but Jabeur in 2.
Swiatek vs Gauff :
-1250 is what they’re suggesting is a fair price for Swiatek, but you will understand if I disagree. Lesia Tsurenko was unfortunately forced to retire in the first against Swiatek, but she was likely not going to put up much of a fight anyway. She’s a tricky player, but Swiatek was seeing the ball big and was applying a lot of pressure to Tsurenko’s serve. Lesia seemed to feel a bit faint, and told the physicians that she was having some trouble breathing. She’s had a fair bit of withdrawals this year (5), but with an illness removing Rybakina, and Tsurenko issuing some harsh sounding coughs during the treatment, she may have been dealing with a cold/flu of some sort which is unfortunate for the fans.
Gauff had a close first set with Schmiedlova, but she never really seemed in big trouble in her match. Gauff has struggled on her forehand wing in the past, but this week she’s been solid in every match and her game has gotten better as the match went on. That’s why I’m not sure how dominant of a performance Swiatek can turn in here. Similar to the Djokovic/Khachanov match, I know which player is better, but I don’t see an easy path for the victor because the deviation in level just isn’t there with Gauff. She’s going to defend well because she’s (I think) the fastest player on tour, and she’s going to hit the ball solid off both wings. Swiatek has shown that she struggles a little bit with errors when you take her time away, and Gauff’s ability to hang on the baseline and keep the ball low might represent a challenge similar to Rybakina’s. I don’t think her serve is anywhere near as reliable as Rybakina’s at creating setups though. Gauff has the potential to serve aces, but it’s more of a momentum thing it seems, or at times she mirrors Sakkari where on a huge point she can summon one, but most of the time she lands around 55% and doesn’t really get many aces.
After hyping up Gauff’s chances, my eyes drifted back over to the bad news. These two have met 6 times, and Gauff has yet to win a set. Swiatek won 3,1 at this event last year, and she’s gotten an entire day off so her arm will be fresher than Gauff’s. I’m expecting some thrilling rallies, but Swiatek’s return of serve in the last few rounds has looked really good. Swiatek in 2, one close and one bakery-esque.

2023.06.06 22:37 glenncase 25 years of Sifl and Olly!
Hi there,
Glenn Case here. I went by "Dr Funk" and "Ollyfan" in ye olde Sockheads times. I attended both Cresventions, helped to organize the second Cresvention, and I helped to organize the first tribute CD.
I was recently able to reset my password and regain access to my Reddit profile. So, here I am!
A couple of things:
- July of 2023 will be the 25th anniversary of the first episode of Sifl and Olly airing on MTV! How wild is that?
- I have created a TikTok profile under the username sockheadsnation, and I have uploaded a few videos thus far, including a commercial break from one of the first episodes that I recorded on a stereo VCR back in the day! (VCRs that only recorded mono sound were more common at the time.) There should be more to come, including clips from the show, clips from the first two Cresventions, and maybe even some new interviews with fans, etc!
- Upon revisiting my VHS recordings, I am confident that the current listings on TVDB need to be adjusted as far as the dates when the show aired. The listing for Season 1, Episode 11 currently says it first aired on September 15th, 1998, but the commercial breaks for that episode are promoting things that would have already happened. The air date has to have been earlier than August 21st based on the clues within the commercials. I anticipate a deep dive into classic episodes of TV Guide, the MTV website, and the Sockheads archive in the coming days and weeks.
- This is what we call "Burying the lead." There are talks underway about a possible Cresvention number 3 in Los Angeles next year! We are in the early stages, but it is looking quite likely that something will come together for the Summer of 2024. More to come!
With any luck, we will have some exciting things on the way. I'm here for it!
ROCK!

2023.06.06 22:36 billiebol Is Daemonhood worth it?
My lvl 35 Khornate Chaos Chad 'Ragnar' just got invited to daemonhood, I saved the game to compare if I accept and it does not really seem worth it. His stats are universally lower than before, sure he is lower level and will improve but will he be better than he is as a Chaos Warrior with Boons of Chaos? I need to level him up a lot again which is a pain as I am deep in enemy territory (Franz is breathing down his neck). It's hard to see all the longer term pros and cons in terms of abilities gained and potential but on the surface it does not seem worth it. Thoughts?

2023.06.06 22:35 PsyberPunk_3030 I'm new to playing SF competitively coming from smashbros where I was an upper mid level player. In my experience so far, modern controls make SF6 even easier/more accessible than competitive smash if anyone was curious.
I'm just throwin this out there for people interested in 1v1 fighting games and are curious about SF6 who may have played 1v1 smash.
So smash doesnt have motion inputs to perform moves either as I'm sure everyone knows, but in smash, there is a lot of skill involved in movement tech, and there are no autocombos in smash either. There is a decent amount of labbing you need to do in smash to learn what combos work at what percentages, etc. Even though smash wasn't made to be a competitive game, it can actually get pretty deep, and it isn't super easy to get to a high level because it does require a decent amount of technical skill with movement and combos.
With modern controlls in SF6, they provide you with some of the most powerful combos in the game with the repeated press of a single button (while holding the auto button, so technically 2). The game makes it very easy to perform all the moves you are trying to execute, it requires very little practice, even less practice than smash requires.
So if you tried smash and thought it was too hard or frustrating, but are interested in 1v1 style games, SF6 with modern controlls may be your cup of tea. It's similar to a game called Fantasy Strike, but a bit more complex.

2023.06.06 22:35 FictionalFolly 26F Looking for long-lasting friendship
I live in the U.S. (southern WA) and I'm looking for a platonic only but deep relationship with another person, hopefully a woman or feminine leaning person. I'm of course hoping for someone in the PNW but long distance is also manageable for me. I'm hoping for someone to chat with often, hopefully daily as I have a lot of time on my hands.
I've struggled with mental health all my life, but that doesn't mean I'm unhappy. I have a great life and many passions and all too many plans I'd love to verbally ambush you with. I've done a large amount of self work and I'm a much better friend than I was in my youth and I'd love to speak to someone who also knows in their heart that they're a good friend. There's no need to put each other down or judge things that might be difficult or impossible to change.
I love deep talks of emotional significance, taking turns rattling on about our dreams, and trying to be better people. It's okay if it's hard, it's supposed to be.
I'm most interested in agriculture start-ups, permaculture, intentional communities, animals, and plants. but I spend most of my time on the semi educational side of youtube, reading, and cooking/cleaning. Every year during the summer I fall in love with berry picking all over again.
My entertainment is videogames (right now diablo 4 and genshin impact, waiting for SOS:AWL), anime (mostly light hearted romances with some attack on titan and black butler), and my favorite "young adult" cartoons (steven universe, owl house).
Please message me with what your dreams are and your favorite thing to talk about. I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you-

2023.06.06 22:34 Coruscated Test
I want to start by crediting Tarnished Archaeologist, Hawkshaw, Sinclair Lore and SmoughTown for their video essays on Elden Ring lore. The credit is general, because I, to my shame, really can’t remember exactly where I first heard a particular notion brought up, and how it goaded me into my own further thoughts. Most of my thoughts on Elden Ring lore are like this, it all gets muddled and I forget if an idea was even my own initially. You can probably hear many of the below ideas in their work, and more fleshed out at that. But (in case anyone here actually needs to hear this) the point is that I warmly recommend them all and don’t really want to take any personal credit for what follows, it’s more or less just the conclusions I’ve reached based on all the Eternal City-related lore I’ve consumed.
PART 1: FLOURISHING ON THE SURFACE The Nox once lived above ground Nox Monk Armor says:
“Long ago, the Nox invoked the ire of the Greater Will, and were banished deep underground. Now they live under a false night sky…” They most likely lived above ground, and had their heyday, at least partially in pre-Erdtree times. Siofra River map says:
“This vast region is said to be the grave of civilizations that flourished before the Erdtree”. There are only two civilizations in Siofra: the Uhl/Ancestral Worshippers, and the Nox.
Nokstella features statues matching the ones found on Divine Tower bridges (and lots of other places, like the Fortified Manor; basically early/pre-Erdtree statuary). It isn’t common imagery in the Eternal Cities, but it is there. This ties them to whatever civilization - be it pre- or early-Erdtree - that made those statues.
Reason for banishment It was for invoking the “ire of the Greater Will” they were banished. But they were once, in some way, aligned/allied with the Greater Will. Fingerslayer Blade says that it is:
“...proof of the high treason committed by the Eternal City” You can not commit high treason against something you’re not aligned with in the first place.
This could mean they were banished early on in the Age of the Erdtree, when the Greater Will is perceived to have become the “main god” in power, or that they themselves served the Greater Will directly in pre-Erdtree times.
The implication seems to be they were a faction/part of an alliance, but not necessarily the leading one - because someone had the power to determine their actions were to be considered treason, and banish them underground. This is all, of course, assuming the details haven’t all been lost to time to such an extent that it’s only believed at present they were banished for treason when the actual truth was something a bit different…
People of the day and of the night The giant ever-shining Erdtree and the removal of Death from existence symbolizes a land out of natural balance. Life has won over death. Day has won over night. The Erdtree is like a perpetual sun that prevents the Lands Between from having any true night, coupled with the literal complete halting of the stars’ movements by the warrior, born of sorcerers, Radahn.
Like how Marika, the golden-eyed queen of life, claimed complete victory over the gloam-eyed queen of death, the stars- and night-worshipping Nox completely lost to the Erdtree and its everlasting day. But as we said before, they weren’t just conquered in war like the Fire Giants - they specifically committed high treason. Nox architecture also looks conspicuously modern and advanced, much more in line with modern Leyndell architecture (totally different style, but in terms of advancement) than any older civilizations like the giants or dragons.
I believe, therefore, the Nox most likely had their heyday right before and in the transition period to the Age of the Erdtree. It’s pretty well-supported that this was the civilization Marika herself actually arose from; early patches called the Nox “Empyrean Family”, the BK Assassins are said to both be Numen and descendants of the Eternal City to this day, so-called Numen Runes are found underground in the domain of the Eternal Cities. But the Nox’ original religious beliefs, cultural practices and ultimate desires became increasingly incompatible with the newly established Golden Order. They didn’t openly rebel and start a giant civil war or anything, but… we’ll get to the rest.
TERMINOLOGICAL INTERMISSION Does the term “Eternal City” only refer to the cities underground? I think it’s worth considering. This was my initial assumption, but the Black Moon
“once hung above [Nokstella]” and was
“the guide of countless stars” but is now
“lost” Its fragments are all found on the surface, collected by sorcerer-astrologers and kept in their towers all across the world. Not one is found underground, where Nokstella itself only has a talisman that “represents" their lost moon. So it seems likely that the moon hung above Nokstella when it/its people was on the SURFACE, and guided (pulled in with gravitation?) stars to them. This would imply the term “Eternal City” can refer interchangeably to the cities as they were on the surface or the rebuilt (?) ones underground. And that has at least one possible further implication.
PART 2: LIFE UNDERGROUND How did the “banishment”/ruination of the cities come about? Eternal Darkness is a sorcery originating from the Eternal City, and is said to be
“the despair that brought about its ruin made manifest” The spell creates a black hole that draws in sorceries and incantations. One interpretation would be that this was considered heretical, and was part of why they were banished, but I do not think so due to the use of the word “despair”. Did the Eternal City conjure such a giant version of this black hole that it pulled in a deluge of stars, which smashed their black moon and wreaked havoc upon their cities? That would certainly be cause for despair, and ruin to follow.
But the Fingerslayer Blade is also
“proof of [the Eternal City’s]high treason … and symbolizes its downfall” So it seems we have two items that function very differently yet both lay claim to symbolizing/closely relating to the ruin/downfall of the cities.
Personally, the most elegant way to square the two is to say that time has muddled the specificities of their downfall. They did turn against the Greater Will and either attempted to, or did, slay one of the Two Fingers. They ALSO fucked around with cosmic research and found out. They made themselves public enemy number one with their treason, and brought ruin on their own cities with their reckless starchasing. Thanks to the passage of time, the two events coalesced into one story about them “drawing down the ire of the Greater Will and being banished underground”. Or maybe was promoted as such by the powers that be.
How did the move underground actually happen? There are no “Eternal City ruins” on the surface whatsoever. They’re all underground. There are the towns in the style of Sellia, Ordina and lower Leyndell, but these seem much less advanced, perhaps residencies for commoners and not the high clergy/researchers that make up their high society. This is actually pretty odd considering there are ruins of virtually EVERY type and from every time period for us to inspect and ponder on across the Lands Between.
So this raises the question of whether the Nox literally moved their stuff underground.
Spatial displacement is uncommon in Elden Ring, it’s not something you can just theorize someone did and leave it at that. But the few times it actually comes up can be at least tangentially tied to the Nox. Astel can teleport freely, and while he’s known for destroying, not helping them, his is still the kind of power the Nox were eagerly fucking around (also known as researching) with. And the teleporter gates - so omnipresent and mysterious - by their outward appearance at least, are, in fact, distinctly Noxian. The first time your average player is likely to run into one is probably in the Siofra River, bringing them from the lower Uhl ruins to the higher strata right below the Eternal City proper.
Personally, I also think the particular way the Nokron Eternal City buildings intersect with the older Uhl ones looks really odd and slapdash. There seems to be little rhyme or reason and you go from one to the other pretty spontaneously. Lastly, let me tie this back to those few conspicuous statues - why would they bring these with them, or rebuild them exactly, if they represent a tie to a civilization they have left behind, betrayed, and become hated by?
Astel assaulted an Eternal City and took away their sky This presumably had to happen before Radahn stopped the stars, or an Astel would not have been able to descend on the Lands Between.
The Nameless Eternal City is the only one missing its false night sky and so it’s assumed that it was also inhabited by Nox & friends before Astel’s assault killed every last one of them. Leyndell later hermit-crabbed in with their gargoyles, mausoleum and Godwyn burial.
HOWEVER,
an alternate take would be that Astel’s assault refers to the very same event that caused them to flee underground in the first place. The sky he took away was their true sky. This doesn’t really work with the item description as written though, because it specifically says “an Eternal City”, so it would require there to be some translation errors at play... I know plurals can sometimes be weird in japanese translations, but I'm otherwise totally ignorant and won't delve further into this here.
This would call into question what actually happende with the Nameless Eternal City, seeing how it's the only one without any actual Nox present and also completely wrecked. Tarnished Archeologist’s thesis is that it actually was part of Leyndell itself - the odd giant moat with its gates to nowhere between the main city and the outskirts which matches the location and shape of the underground Eternal City almost perfectly. We can perhaps attribute the ruination to lack of upkeep combined with the wild growth of Erdtree roots, and the Nox aren't there because with Leyndell came down and chased them away (they probably wouldn’t want their hated enemies that want to destroy their order, right at the very roots of their golden tree that empowers said order).
Research into artificial life I believe the Nox were screwing around with artificial life even before their downfall. It marks a clear symbolic opposition to the Greater Will, the Erdtree and its power of natural, organic life - true gold and false silver. I believe the Albinaurics were at one point, in cut content, outright said to be made by the Eternals; in the present game it seems more likely that the sorcerers of Raya Lucaria (likely with aid from Nokstella, though) are responsible but the tie still remains. This research seems to have accelerated underground, in any case, with them deprived of any access to the true life of the stars.
- Dragonkin Soldiers were made in imitation of the Ancient Dragons.
- Silver Tears are able to imitate any kind of life. They’re weak but incredibly numerous.
- Mimic Tears were intended to mimic a lord, but could only mimic appearance and power, not true strength of will.
One can see a force of counter-revolution take shape. A small number of immensely powerful shock (har har) troopers; a large and extremely flexible base force; and a lord to lead them, though all under the control of their masters, the clergy of alchemical savants.
PART 3: REMAINING THREADS TO THE SURFACE Sellia Sellians are, as per Gowry,
“descendants of the Eternal” and they use sorceries that originates from Nokron as per Night Maiden’s Mist and the aforementioned Eternal Darkness. Nox are also present in Sellia itself. Sellia is known as a shady town of treacherous sorcerers that competed violently for clout, which seems to have been spurred on by them acquiring powerful sorceries from the Nox, repeating the theme of an excessive yearning for power and knowledge leading to self-destruction. Its secretive nature and geographical distance from the center of power in Leyndell likely made this a convenient place for the Nox to scout the surface and begin to reestablish some connections.
Caria The Carian-controlled Church of Vows features a statue of a Nox Nightmaiden. In its basin one can use a Celestial Dew, a hidden “Night Tear” originally from the Eternal City itself, to absolve oneself of sins.
This could be taken in multiple ways. The Nox statue is probably used because they are known to all as great sinners. But it may have served a different purpose originally, and to the Carians (just not to any Golden Order-friend who comes sightseeing), perhaps still?
The Black Knives & Ranni The Black Knife Assassins were descendants (scions) of the Eternal City nobles. They were clad in silver, the cities’ metal of choice for their craftsmanship.
Liurnia lies above the Eternal City of Nokstella. Ranni has a portal to Nokstella in one of her towers. Iji says he presumes we have heard of Nokstella. But it is Nokron which contains the secret relic of betrayal, the Fingerslayer Blade.
The implication seems to be that the Carians communicated with Nokstella, which in turn had been separated from Nokron for a long time. After all, we find no teleporting devices connecting the two, and the Golden Order has placed its mighty full-grown gargoyles at the waterfall which could potentially connect them via Deeproot Depths.
Ranni’s compatriots were possibly a mix of ladies of the court, who had ostensibly stayed with Marika but secretly plotted a new betrayal, and sorcerous technology from Nokstella.

2023.06.06 22:33 PatientsAssociations How is melanoma diagnosed?
Melanoma, a type of skin cancer, is diagnosed through a combination of methods that involve clinical examination, imaging techniques, and, in most cases, a biopsy. Here is an overview of the diagnostic process for melanoma:
- Clinical examination: A healthcare professional will conduct a thorough examination of the skin, looking for any suspicious moles, growths, or areas of concern. They will evaluate the size, shape, color, and borders of the skin lesions and assess other characteristics that may indicate melanoma.
- Dermoscopy: Dermoscopy, also known as dermatoscopy or epiluminescence microscopy, involves using a handheld instrument called a dermatoscope to examine the skin in more detail. The dermatoscope provides a magnified view of the skin, enabling the healthcare professional to evaluate the structures and patterns within the mole or lesion.
- Imaging tests: In some cases, imaging tests may be recommended to assess the extent of the melanoma and determine if it has spread to nearby lymph nodes or other organs. These imaging tests can include ultrasound, CT (computed tomography) scans, MRI (magnetic resonance imaging), or PET (positron emission tomography) scans.
- Biopsy: A biopsy is the definitive diagnostic procedure for melanoma. It involves the removal of a sample of the suspicious skin lesion or mole for laboratory analysis. There are different types of biopsies, including:
- Excisional biopsy: The entire suspicious mole or lesion is surgically removed, along with a small amount of surrounding healthy tissue.
- Incisional biopsy: Only a portion of the mole or lesion is removed for analysis.
- Punch biopsy: A small, cylindrical tool is used to remove a deep sample of tissue from the lesion.
- Shave biopsy: The top layers of the skin are shaved off to obtain a sample for analysis.
- The biopsy sample is sent to a pathology laboratory where a pathologist examines it under a microscope to determine if cancer cells are present and, if so, to evaluate their characteristics, such as thickness, depth, and the presence of any concerning features.
Once a diagnosis of melanoma is confirmed, further tests, such as a sentinel lymph node biopsy or imaging studies, may be performed to assess the spread of the cancer and determine the appropriate treatment plan.
It is important to consult with a qualified healthcare professional, such as a dermatologist or an oncologist, if you have any suspicious skin lesions or concerns about melanoma. They can guide you through the diagnostic process and provide appropriate care based on your individual circumstances.

2023.06.06 22:30 demondork224 [F4GM] Running the Gauntlet. A new frontier for reality TV.
I’m 18+ and all characters and participants must be 18+
Even backstage, the roaring sound of the audience is almost deafening. With the shouting and jeering, it's hard not to feel the adrenaline pumping through my body while i await the fate of the contestant ahead of you. Collectively, they start counting down the clock, the dramatic music rising in intensity as they approach the end of the clock. In a dramatic twist, however, the clock stops, the crowd starting to boo and jeer loudly, clearly disappointed. She failed. A production assistant walks up to me, adding a bit of final make-up. She smiles, almost reassuringly. "You're up after the break. Just relax, don't let the audience intimidate you, just do your best."
As the crowd settles down, the commercial break currently airing, i see the previous contestant walk down the corridor. She's naked, her face and body covered in cum, shivering, make-up running down her cheeks. I met her briefly in the green room, earlier. Ashley, 21 years old, running the gauntlet to pay off her student debt. She had a pretty face, long straight copper hair brushing her shoulders, wider hips and a bigger rack than you imagined when the two of you shook hands earlier. Now, you see she avoids you entirely, still sobbing, while she's ushered away to another room. I knew this wasn't going to be easy, but seeing her in that state made you even more nervous. With a deep sigh, i look up at the countdown clock, while the assistant counts down with it.
3,2,1. Go.
Down the catwalk i go, lights flashing in my face, while i hear the "Next Contestant!" announcement ring through the studio. A busty woman in a suit is standing center stage, inviting me to stand next to her, while the audience claps politely upon my entry. The music ends, the lights focused on me and the presenter of this wicked show. She smiles, before turning to camera 4. "Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to the Gauntlet. Ashley didn't make the cut, but don't worry, we've got a fresh contestant lined up for you." She turns towards me. points towards camera 3. "Please, tell the audience who you are and why you're running the Gauntlet today?"
---
Thanks for reading this far! Reality TV is taking on a new frontier, with girls doing depraved things for money. It might be an attempt to pay off their student debt, save up to purchase a house or just responding to a deep rooted desire to be used. Running the gauntlet seems easy; it can be quite lighthearted and quirky if you want, or dark if that's what you prefer. The idea of the gauntlet is that my character will be pushed to her limits.
Kinks: cum, cum eating, cum food, cum play, bukkake, cream pie, bdsm, bondage, forced, body writing, spanking, cuddling, degradation, rough partners, sizeplay, dominant partners, toys, multiple partners, spit roasting, mating press, full Nelson, frenching, rimming, body oil, bestiality, water sports, wax play, sex machines, being filmed, cosplay,NTR,petplay, exhibitionism, biting and pretty much anything that isn’t my limits
Limits:
Scat,gore,vore,hyper sizes,necro and vomit
If that's of interest to you, please get in touch at Demondork on Kik and come with any questions you have, clarifications you need and ideas you'd like to share. Just please do more than just tell me you're interested. Don't worry about responding slowly/late, I still want to hear from you. Finally, please no chat requests, I will simply ignore them.

2023.06.06 22:30 ruinyourself A glimmer of hope for those who need it.
I shared my story here a little over a month ago, here:
https://www.reddit.com/naranon/comments/132g6bl/setting_boundaries_is_this_just_foreve Sorry this is long, just typing it out helps me a lot. I'd always come here to read other peoples experiences so I thought I'd share mine too, hoping it helps others.
At the end of my last post, my husband began going through withdrawals, admitted that is what was happening and why he started acting so weird and looked so uncomfortable. I made him go to a hotel to go through withdrawals because I'm over it, don't want any of this bullshit in my house, and wanted him to suffer from the consequences of his own choices and actions away from me.
3 or 4 days later, he came back home, still HEAVILY in withdrawals. He said this is, by far, the worst withdrawals he had ever gone though, and they haven't stopped yet. There was no hump to get over. He looked like shit, he stank, he was crawling out of his skin, he was so emotional and hated himself and couldn't stand feeling this way, and he was hyperventilating. He said he needed to go to the ER, so I drove him there. I'm far beyond the point of crying over this shit anymore.
In the ER he got fluids and Ativan which kept him from hyperventilating - his heart rate was through the roof. The meds stabilized him and he was able to relax and speak normally. I said "Yeah, you can't come home after this. You can go to rehab or you can go someplace else." And he agreed and wanted to go to rehab.
I found him a rehab and drove him there straight from the ER. This is his first time in rehab. I dropped him off for the next 30 days.
I thought this would bring me peace, him finally admitting he needed rehab and couldn't handle this on his own, and that he was taking steps to fix this issue. But instead I just felt crushing loneliness, at home with our puppy, all alone. I was incredibly distracted at work, and it really felt like I was in a deep hole I couldn't crawl out of. I've never felt this way before and it freaked me out. There were so many unknowns. I was terrified that after he started feeling marginally better in a week and a half he would call and demand to be picked up, then we'd start all of this all over again.
He did call 10 or so days later, and did ask to be picked up. He complained about some stuff at rehab, the rules, the regimen, etc. I was crushed, since I desperately wanted this to be a life changing experience for him. I refused to pick him up, and immediately called his therapist in rehab to tell them what was going on. He called me back 30 minutes later to apologize and say he would stay and make the most out of it.
Then a huge change happened. He connected on a deep level with the other people in rehab. He heard their stories, and was able to relate to people in the exact situation he was in with work, life, everything. He was around people who had literally nothing for the first time in his life, and it moved him. He was allowed to order a couple things he needed on Amazon, and got a hoodie and some sweatpants for a guy who didn't have a change of clothes. He gave away a pair of his shoes to another guy who only had shoes that didn't fit. He said he laughed more with one of his roommates than he had laughed in years. Many people told him how much of an impact my husband made on them also. This did wonders for his self confidence. He can't bring that stuff up without getting choked up, still.
All of his walls came down. He would talk to his therapist for hours, and she helped him more than I think she'll ever realize. All of his life stresses were validated. All of his idiotic misconceptions about rehab, therapy, and recovery, went away. It started to click, and he was doing what he needed to do to to get better.
He also received an autism diagnosis from his therapist. I think this has helped him immensely, and made him realize why some things in life are harder for him than others. He welcomed this diagnosis and isn't ashamed.
We talked a couple days before he was to be picked up, and requested I bring some specific pairs of shoes he never wore for the guys in there (lol).
He went into PHP immediately after rehab and is still open and willing to continue working in the recovery space. One guy there didn't have any transportation, and my husband cleaned up and brought one of his bikes he never uses. Small things like this made a big difference to my husband. Helping people. I hope he continues in some form.
It's only been a couple of weeks since he's been home, but the change is drastic. He only speaks fondly of rehab and thanked me for not picking him up early. He's been emotional about what he went through, what he's put me though, and is now completely open to self reflection. He shares stories about the other guys he met and connected with, and I think it's really made a huge impact on him, along with the diagnosis he received. It's been like a complete 180. He's shared his addiction story with a handful of friends, talked to my Mom about it, has offered to take drug tests at home (which i'm not interested in), has been taking care of the house/yard, and generally just now a present spouse who isn't hiding away half of the time anymore. The way he speaks about recovery, drugs, and his apparent honesty have put me at ease so much. He's no longer hyper defensive and snippy. He's just.....himself.
For now, things are good. They feel normal. This was my dream outcome from him going to rehab. I know people relapse all the time, and going to rehab once doesn't often "fix" people. I'll probably never stop being on the lookout, but for now, I feel at ease.
When I made the other post, I truly never thought he'd be able to be as open and honest with himself and others about what he was doing and how far gone he was. But rehab really made a huge difference - in his self confidence, in understanding how addiction works and what it is, and the connections he made with others.
So, this is my glimmer of hope. Thanks for reading. I'm holding onto it for now and thankful that I have it.

2023.06.06 22:29 non_standard_model Where is the strangest place you've seen somebody wear NastyPig apparel?
For me: either at Cracker Barrel in the deep south, or just restaurants in general. But Cracker Barrel, specifically. When somebody is wearing a "please raw me" t-shirt while ordering dumplings, it's a bit of a shock. I mean, you expect to see that kind of thing at a bathhouse or maybe an Ikea, but Cracker Barrel?

2023.06.06 22:28 Skycomett Unity, Mirror can't move clients camera to starting position from OnServerSceneChanged. I've been stuck at this problem for a week.
I've been following this course on Udemy where they create a Multiplayer RTS using Mirror in Unity.
I've been trying to get the cameras position to be set on the players base on starting the game. Right now I try to do that in OnServerSceneChanged in the RTSNetworkManager script. which derives from NetworkManager.
It always works for the host (Because its also the server I guess?) but never for the client.
My player prefab is setup like this:
I have a gameobject with a RTSPlayer and a MyCameraController script. Which both derive from NetworkBehaviour.
It has a child gameobject called camera with a CinemachineVirualCamera component on it.
When I check the inspector I see that the positions of both the camera child objects on the players have been set to the correct positions. However, only the actual camera of the host changed position to it's players base. the client's camera is still wherever in the scene.
When I try to set the position in update with a key press it works just fine. (See code all the way below.)
So in my RTSNetworkManager I do the following in the OnServerSceneChanged method:
public override void OnServerSceneChanged(string SceneName) { if (SceneManager.GetActiveScene().name.StartsWith("Map_")) { GameOverHandler gameOverHandlerInstance = Instantiate(gameOverHandler); NetworkServer.Spawn(gameOverHandlerInstance.gameObject); foreach (RTSPlayer player in players) { //Instantiate prefab on server only. Vector3 pos = GetStartPosition().position; GameObject unitBaseInstance = Instantiate(unitBasePrefab, pos, Quaternion.identity); //Will spawn in the prefab on all clients, and make conn the owner. NetworkServer.Spawn(unitBaseInstance, player.connectionToClient); Debug.Log($"player: {player.connectionToClient}"); player.GetCameraController().SetCameraStartPosition(); } } }
In my CameraController script I have this method:
[Client] public void SetCameraStartPosition() { Debug.Log($"Test Triggered for {connectionToClient.identity}."); Debug.Log($"player ready? {connectionToClient.isReady}."); Debug.Log($"player authority? {connectionToClient.isAuthenticated}."); SetCameraPosition(player.GetBuildings()[0].transform.position); }
Which calls this method:
[Client] private void SetCameraPosition(Vector3 position) { //Debug.Log($"HandleCameraPositionOnGameStart has been called. for {connectionToClient.identity}"); float offset = playerCameraGameObject.transform.position.y; Vector3 newCameraPos = new Vector3(position.x, offset, position.z); newCameraPos = newCameraPos + new Vector3(0f, 0f, -offset); Debug.Log($"Camera Position: {newCameraPos}"); playerCameraGameObject.transform.position = new Vector3(newCameraPos.x, newCameraPos.y, newCameraPos.z); //gameHasStarted = true; Debug.Log($"Current Camera Position: {playerCameraGameObject.transform.position}"); }
When I do it in the Update method it works no problem.
[ClientCallback] private void Update() { if (!isOwned !Application.isFocused) { return; } if (Keyboard.current.spaceKey.wasPressedThisFrame) { Debug.Log("Space"); SetCameraPosition(player.GetBuildings()[0].transform.position); } UpdateCameraPosition(); }
I am absolutly lost, no clue as to why it's not working when I try to set the position from the RTSNetworkManager.
It's probably something simple which has been flying right over my head the entire week.
Really hoping someones here knows what the problem is or might be.

2023.06.06 22:26 Ok-Sock3252 Being high actually puts you in a state of hypnosis
just finished my first session of hypnotherapy, and one of the things they told me that I found eye-opening is that when we get high, we are putting ourselves in a state of hypnosis, leaving the subconscious mind wide open. You are exposing yourself to countless stimuli. So if you think about it, for those of us who are dependent, who use it to shut off our minds, what we don’t realize is that any negative stimuli like social media or tv shows or activities are going to deep into your subconscious and make it even harder to get rid of negative energy you’re been exposed to. Truly blew my mind
Something that came out of the hypnosis was realizing that the weed was keeping me in my comfort zone. It didn’t allow me to believe in myself, it didn’t allow me to surpass menial feelings about myself, and this Marianne Williamson quote (stay with me) kept popping into my head and gave me happy tears:
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.”
Love y’all. Keep loving yourselves through this. Realized at the bottom of all of this is an issue of self-worth.

2023.06.06 22:24 alwithaton Has anyone else came to the point where they think surgery or some sort of brain procedure will have to be done in order to at-least live a somewhat “normal” life?
I’ve tried medication. I’ve tried relaxation techniques. I’ve tried exercise. I’ve tried exposure. There’s not many other option’s to pick here as i’ve tried the supplemental route as well. Daily living should not have to be THIS stressful every SECOND of the day. It’s not humane and is treated by society as if it is something that you can get over in seconds by just deep breathing or doing a meditation sesh. Go ahead tell anyone around you about what you got going on in your life with this specific problem, personally, I don’t know about any of you but i struggle with multiple diagnosis, GAD, MDD, PDD, OCD, Panic disorder, ADHD, and etc., if i was to tell someone right now how paranoid and scared i am just from talking to another person, the attitude they approach it with would be as simple as such, “man grow some balls” “suck it up” “get over it” “your selfish” “stop being a lil boy”, if you surely didn’t want to exist before hearing this you sure didn’t want to after. Anyways I’m not here to vent, i would like to hear your personal experience with this.

2023.06.06 22:23 Proctor-47 This is the only game to ever make me cry when I had finished it because of how many deep emotions it made me feel
I beat this game during the summer of 2018, when I was 15 years old. I just want to write this post to talk about this game and how much it means to me.
No other game that I’ve played has ever made me cry when I had finished it. Not because I got a bad ending, and not because a character’s death hit me especially hard (although I will always regret the fact that Hank didn’t survive in my playthrough, even though the rest of it went well), but because I just needed to release everything that this game made me feel. The sympathy that I felt for Alice when Todd was abusing her, the rage I felt when I saw the Androids in the recycling camp, the relief I felt when I defeated Evil Connor at the CyberLife Tower. I needed to release it all, so I went to my bathroom and cried for a solid 20 minutes after the credits rolled.
This game is absolutely amazing. The characters, the soundtrack, the way that every choice matters, the aesthetics of it (Detroit in this game is one of my favourite fictional futuristic cities ever). This game is a work of art. Easily a 10/10 experience. I love it.
