Both my parents and my in-laws signed up for the program.
My parents have been cutting and burning extra wood because of the price of oil. They put 600L in their tank and only used the oil furnace while they're away. The rest of the winter they kept a fire going in the wood furnace. They have and old house from the 1940s, it needs some work but my Mom never worked and my Dad worked seasonal, they're on a tight budget now that my father is only working part time.
My in-laws moved back to NB in 2021 after spending 30 years working in Alberta. They bought a 2020 build outright and use baseboard heat supplemented with a pair of propane stoves.
Greenfoot did the inspection on both homes, Greenfoot was also the contractor assigned on both homes.
My in-laws got approved for 2 totally free mini-splits. One on each end of the main floor of their brand new home. I'm happy they got this work done for free but they also refer to their Audi SUV as a "cheap retirement car" because it's the smallest one Audi makes.
My parents were told they didn't buy enough oil to qualify for a heat pump and because the basement has some some crumbly old packing foam on the walls they don't qualify for basement insulation.
I understand I should have read the rules a little more carefully when helping my parents but I feel like this program has a lot of oversight.
My in-laws house is brand new, it's less than 3 years old. It was built to R2000 specs but not certified because they had planned on installing mini splits after the home was built to take advantage of the rebates. Instead they found out they qualified for free mini splits. Their heating costs were already low and they didn't really need the help. But they're retired and although they have lots of cash from selling their home in Alberta they have almost no income. Meaning they qualify for free stuff.
My parents couldn't afford oil so they cut extra wood, which made them not qualify for a heat pump because you have to have receipts for more than 1000L of oil. Because the basement had some amount of insulation they decided it wasn't worth spray foaming the basement. Even though it's easily argued they needed the work done more than my in-laws they got nothing from the program.
It also feels weird that Greenfoot did the inspection and was the contractor for the basement. I don't know how I would back this up but it seems to me like Greenfoot didn't want to do anymore work than they had to, so they approved two easy minisplits but wouldn't deal with the work involved in spraying my parents basement. I don't blame them, I was present for my parents inspection and the inspector told me that they were busy on the inspections and installs.
I know the program is helping a lot of people but in typical NB fashion the program is half finished, understaffed and easily abused by contractors looking for a monopoly. They should build on this program and find ways to make sure the money is going where it is needed most. People should be free to pick whatever contractor they want once they're approved. The people doing the inspections shouldn't be the people installing the heat pumps. The rules need to be expanded to cover people who heat with wood/propane/natural gas.

I know what you’re thinking right now… don’t buy a Novilla!!! But there’s a story here
So, I’m currently staying in an Air BNB and have been for the last two nights. And when I say that I have had the best nights of sleep in my life, I’m not even kidding. So I went searching for the mattress type and it’s the brand Novilla. After looking online I think it’s the vitality hybrid, but I’m not absolutely positive. It is very firm, and I think that’s probably why my body is so happy with it.
At home, I have a mattress that I know has been dying for years now, but I couldn’t afford to replace it. It’s a cool mattress that has lumps and bumps all over as it was a cheap off brand that’s at least 10 years old. But now that I (someone who previously broke a hip and suffers chronic pain because of it) have slept on something different, I’m realizing my mattress is half my problem.
I’ve read that Novilla is no good. And I do have one tweak I’d like to make. The mattress is very firm and supportive for when you’re sleeping, but I wish it had some sort of “padding” or “squish” at the top to make it more comfy while sitting and not sleeping. I’m 20 years old, so money is a problem. What are similar mattresses that are A.) a better brand and B.) are firm and supportive but still have some squish in the top layers? Budget is around about 700 for a full size, although if it’s under that, it would be amazing! I’ve also tested purples in the past and really like the but it’s too expensive. For reference, I’m a hot sleeper
On a side note, is Novilla really that bad? I noticed that they sell mattress toppers too? If I got that mattress and a topper, would it provide the “squish” that I so desperately want?

 | Nephew just inherited and brought home a farm truck that has been close to the coast and has sat in barn for over 10 years. It actually fired off and drove back to our barn with a quick bump pull start. Now aside from fluid and filter change, is there anything else that needs to be done? Every time mojang fixes crap they also brake things before when they added caves and cliffs and I had friends join my world they would load in but not fully and just be is a empty void on their screen while we could see and interact with their character on my side we figured out how to fix that thankfully with changing the render distance, have no idea how that fixed it but it did, but now that they fixed all the water hacks and touched up the fun shit they have now broken shit once again for me, my brother joined my game last night and his buttons weren’t letting him exit a boat everything else was working fine just not the boat issue and he spammed the switching button controls until it finally figured it out and we thought it was just his issue and moved on, then we went to the nether I finally got son pearls by trading gold and I ran out of gold so I went to go back into my home to get more because it was easier than finding some to mine, entered my house and NO chest would open I tried all of them so then I asked him to come back through the portal to see if that was possibly the issue, nope but he could open the chests and I couldn’t the only thing I could use was doors then I noticed not only will my L2 controls work but my Xbutton controls also won’t do anything, I checked to see if it was a controller issue and it wasn’t so then I tried to die by drowning and that didn’t fix it I also spammed swapping controls and that also didn’t fix anything so then I had my brother collect all my stuff when I drowned because I couldn’t swim so I would of just drowned again if I tried anything, my last resort was leaving the game I did that and came back and still can’t jump we somehow fixed the using thing’s issue but I still get stuck on the same y level for all eternity because of my damn button not working, does anyone know how to fix this and I’m sorry I took so long explaining but I’m very annoyed and want to give the full annoyed picture

I had a vasectomy yesterday around 11:30am. While I experienced the usual discomfort, I was generally ok and able to get up/down. Towards the later afternoon I started to notice my right testicle swelling. I had been using frozen veggies to ice the area every so often. I took some ibuprofen for the swelling. Around 5:30pm, I drive to my sons t-ball game. I was sitting the entire time. I came back home and saw that the swelling was about the size of an avocado. I laid down and continued to ice. I then (stupidly) drive out to a restaurant for an hour or so. By the time that was done and I got home, the right testicle was nearly baseball sized, firm, with a deep red/purple bruise across it. After waking up this morning, the swelling it still there and my groin area right above the right testicle is also now in intense pain. Just getting up and down to use the bathroom made me feel like I was going to pass out. I would say I have a normal tolerance for pain.

Eight months ago, I adopted the sweetest little kitty. The runt of the litter. My Gus. I was in a really dark place and had been for a long time when I found him. He made me and my fiance so incredibly happy. He was perfect. We lost him suddenly a week ago after an overnight stay at the emergency vet. He was being treated for asthma and devastatingly developed acute heart failure requiring us to rush to the hospital and say goodbye. It was over within 30 seconds when we got there. It was really traumatizing seeing my sweet little boy suffering. We could barely process it. They think he had undiagnosed heart disease and it would have reared its ugly head eventually. It has been a painful, enlightening, difficult week. We miss him dearly. I'd like to think that we loved him hard while he was here and that we couldn't have altered the outcome. I know that if the adoption agency had told me he was sick I still would have brought him home. That boy was mine and nothing would have changed that.

Eight months ago, I adopted the sweetest little kitty. The runt of the litter. My Gus. I was in a really dark place and had been for a long time when I found him. He made me and my fiance so incredibly happy. He was perfect. I could write paragraphs of all the reasons why we loved him and what he added to our lives, but I know pet owners already know everything. We lost him suddenly a week ago after an overnight stay at the emergency vet. He was being treated for asthma and devastatingly developed acute heart failure requiring us to rush to the hospital and say goodbye. It was over within 30 seconds when we got there. It was really traumatizing seeing my sweet little boy suffering. We could barely process it. They think he had undiagnosed heart disease and it would have reared its ugly head eventually. It has been a painful, enlightening, difficult week. We miss him dearly. I'd like to think that we loved him hard while he was here and that we couldn't have altered the outcome. I know that if the adoption agency had told me he was sick I still would have brought him home. That boy was mine and nothing would have changed that.
I wrote him this letter after he passed to read to him when we picked up his ashes. It was therapeutic to tell him all the things that made him so special. I hope that all of you suffering with pet loss will also consider doing the same. That boy was my heart cat. My soul kitty. I hope he knows it. I love you, Gus.

There's no easy way about it, even for a grey beard like myself, who's been driving cars for longer than I care to think about, this list is the minimum statutory curriculum to obtain a driver's license for a motorcycle in Denmark.
29 lessons on MC and traffic theory 1 written exam (multiple choice)
4 lessons learning the basics of handling a motorcycle (closed circuit) 5 lessons dedicated to braking techniques, counter steering, and general handling (closed circuit) 13 lessons in actual traffic, with one lesson dedicated to driving after dark 1 practical exam (15min closed circuit + 30 mins in traffic with a police officer monitoring)
... and today I did the final thing on the list, and now I'm finally ready to learn how to ride for real.
Ups and downs
Low points:
Pulling up to a red light, turning around and seeing the wife's scared eyes on the second bike. She dropped out, and is now going for a car license instead (yay).
Seeing another student whiskey-trottle through a hedge and into an old lady's frontyard. He was shocked.
High points:
The first time in traffic, opening up the school's SV 650. It was love at first twist.
All the bikes stopping to check, that my wife was OK. She was waiting by the bike, while I was taking the other bike back to school with the instructor.
Going 110km/h (ca. 70mi/h) on the highway, getting overtaken by a Kawasaki Z900 (I think it was) with a passenger, and the driver has the time to give me a twd salute (hand off throttle for a moment) before speeding off.
Now what?
Now I'm at home enjoying a cold beer, and looking at which bike to go out and buy. Something open I can enjoy on the minor roads in the countryside. The MT-03 is looking good.
