"I am to be killing you, and you are to be dying."

Origin: Anatoli Knyazev's past is a mystery, but wherever he came from he soon became the Soviet Union's greatest assassin. Trained by the KGB and enhanced with cybernetics, he became responsible for the deaths of hundreds of individuals before Batman put a stop to his career as an assassin.
Working for a variety of other super villains through the remainder of his career and suffering a fall from grace after the collapse of the Soviet Union, the KGBeast was ultimately murdered during a botched mission for the Penguin.
Abilities/Gear: An elite KGB assassin who uses a variety of weapons, KGBeast is outfitted with physical-enhancing cybernetics that include a prosthetic gun in the place of one of his hands

I had a big blow up with someone who I would call a very close friend almost one year ago. I still miss our friendship but know that they take their personal issues out on those closest to them. Logically, I know that initiating contact with them would only continue the cycle of drama, but I truly miss their presence in my life. Almost daily I wonder what they’re up to and still get sad if I think about them too much. I don’t really have anyone to talk to about it, as many of my other friends do not realize I'm still upset about it. This is the second time I have stopped talking to them, for a very similar fight. I missed them then, too, and I let them back into my life again. Anyway, if you see this, I still think about our friendship and miss hanging out with you. Happy belated birthday. Hi everyone! Thinking about investing in a Steam deck and I'm trying to sus out whether it is a good time investment for a "casual" player such as myself.
For almost a decade, my only gaming system was the BootCamp Windows partition on my MacBook, which could run casual multiplayer friend favorites like AoE / portal / amogus, plus all the cute indie platformers I accumulated on Steam over the years, but I didn't use it often. Turns out, I'm just not a fan of gaming at the computer. I got a Switch OLED a little over a year ago, and I use it (in handheld mode) A LOT!
Now that I'm more into gaming I was really excited to start playing Diablo 4 with some friends but I had to replace my laptop a few weeks ago and only JUST NOW found out that 1. The new Macs don't run Bootcamp and 2. Diablo 4 isn't coming out for Switch yet. D'oh! Okay, so this combined with the increasing backlog of non-Switch games I'm interested in obviously makes the Steam Deck look really appealing to me.
My big hangup about it is the fact that Diablo and probably a lot of other PC games I might be interested in aren't set up to work "out of the box." I've never used Linux before, and although I know my way around a computer better than most people (have to do scripting in R + Python for my job) I really don't want to spend a ton of time or energy just to "get stuff working." How labor-intensive is it? Do I have to "learn" my way around a whole new OS or can I get by with some basic how-to guides? (My alternatives are basically blowing money on a shitty Windows machine or restricting my Diablo time to couch co-op on my boyfriend's PS5.)

Me and my ex bf were together for about 5 ish months. We recently ended things a couple days ago. I know a lot of people say high school relationships never last and you will forget about it in the future, which may be true but I’ll never forget how he treated me. I met this kid before my 2nd year high school. He was older than me. I just got out of a relationship with someone else that cheated on me with multiple people. I thought that I wouldn’t be able to like anyone else, I was hurt and I didn’t handle the pain well. Then I met him again. We reconnected and he asked me to be his gf on Christmas Eve. I was over joyed I liked this kid so much. He saved me from a time of hard ache and I thanked him for that. Throughout the months I would be so happy seeing him in the halls, spending time outside of school and everything a happy little couple would do. Fast forward to after spring break. Something happened. I’m not sure on what but he wasn’t making effort to hang out with me anymore. It was always me asking. Which was fine because he would normally say yes, but I get this message from him during class this one day middle of April I believe. He told me that he was stressed out and he thought that I had something with his friend. I had to reassure him that I would never ever do that to him because I know how that feels. He was relieved when I told him but I was kinda scared that he was thinking about that. We talked it out and everything was okay again. But he still didn’t make effort to do anything with me. The last time that I hung out with him outside of school was on May 6th after that everything changed. I had a choir concert that I really wanted him to go to on the 18th of may. He told me that he had soccer practice and wasn’t able to make it. I asked him why? “You know I have solos tonight and I really want you to be there” he told me that he wasn’t able to go because his team had a pet fish that died and he needed to be there for the funeral. Yes guys the burial of a fish. I was really heartbroken because I wanted him to be there. He ended up moving this “fish funeral” to a couple days before. So I asked him “now that you had this fish funeral can you come to my concert?” He said “i have a job orientation and I have practice. It’s open turf, I want to be there”. That really hurt me because you can skip one practice and it’s not going to end everything because my concert had two times one at 5pm and one at 7pm. He had the job orientation at 4 which means he couldn’t come to the first one but why couldn’t he come to the second cus of what soccer? Whatever I did my concert and had fun with my friends. I still was sad that I wouldn’t be able to see him in the crowd but I let it go a couple days later. Fast forward to the end of may. We still haven’t hung out outside of school and I was worried he wouldn’t have time for me in the summer due to the reason that he worked every weekday from 6am-3pm with having soccer 3 times a week. I didn’t have a busy work schedule at the time and was free whenever. I messaged him June 2 and I told him that I was scared that he wouldn’t be able to prioritize me during the summer. I was near his house because of a party and I told him you should come pick me up. I didn’t receive a answer. It was the last day of school and we had all this time to get together before I left out of town for the weekend. He told me he had plans but never specifically said what. And in his defense these were plans that were planned months ago but didn’t resurface till the day of so he didn’t know exactly what they were doing. My close friend messaged me and said “i see your bf at this park” and I said “do you mind taking a picture of him so I can see if it really was him”, and it was. He later answered me and said sorry we couldn’t do anything and said “yn i will prioritize you in the summer” but I was already mad that he didn’t tell me exactly where he was going and answered me hours after. He then messaged me and asked if we could talk. I was scared. My parents knew and I wasn’t admitting it. I answered the call and said. “ I know you have had a shitty week already and I’m sorry but I just can’t do this anymore I think we need to break up”. My heart dropped to the floor. I was in complete shock and I was shaking. I didn’t know how to answer, I didn’t know what to do and it was just silence for a bit. He told me that he was wasting his happiness on me, that I brought negativity, and he has had enough. I sat there and I said “ wasting your happiness?” What do you mean by that. He told me that he just wasn’t happy with me anymore. He told me that he was going to break up with me a week ago prior to this call. I started to cry because all this time that I thought everything was okay he has been faking it this entire time. I asked him. “ why can’t we just talk this out like work on ourselves and stay together”. ( I was trying to save the relationship the best I could) he told me “ I’ve had enough, I’m done” and that really hurt me. He said that he didn’t like it when I used “at least you..” in a sentence. Like example: I’m in the upstairs gym. And to be funny I would always be like “at least you aren’t in the downstairs gym for choir”. He told me that he didn’t like it when I said that. He told me that he couldn’t rant to me because I apparently said that too much. I got really upset because if he really wanted to tell me something serious then he should of just said that. We have had a past conversation about this and I thought he understood but I guess not. But what really made me upset was that he was unhappy and when my friend asked him why he broke up with me he told her “ I was just unhappy with her”. “I wasted my happiness” WHO GIVES THAT AS AN EXCUSE. I am still hurt and I don’t understand why. What negativity did I bring? By saying at least? I was upset that he told my friend what happened before I could. My friend messaged me and said “what did you do” like automatically blaming it on me when I still don’t know what I did or what happened in the last 48 hours. He told my friends but I respected this kid and I didn’t tell his friends that asked what happen. I told them that” when he’s ready he will tell you it’s not my place to say what Happened” I still respected him after the break up. He didn’t. On that call the got angrier and angrier while I was trying to save the relationship and crying and shaking. He didn’t have any remorse really and it seemed like he just went completely heartless. He ended that call by saying “maybe we can restart in the fall if we see each other again”. Originally I was set on that. But the more I think about it why would I want to go back to someone that said I brought them negativity? He un-added me on socials the next morning. I just felt lost I didn’t eat anything for2 days I couldn’t believe that this was real. Who is in the wrong? Any advice at this point. Things I can do to not blame myself, activities I can do just anything.

I enjoyed the original 'The House October Built'. I know it wasn't everyone's favorite, but it was unique for what it went for, and the ending was satisfying yet left you craving more. I think if you had a Halloween party/gathering and wanted a FF movie to show friends, it would be this one among some other 'popular' movies.
When I discovered the sequel, I was hesitant yet curious and excited. I went into it slightly knowing the plot but it was ... disappointing. It felt like the retread of the original but left so many plot holes. The only difference was we now know the guys manipulated the main female lead. To boot, it came off that they didn't expect the original to blow up and made this movie on a whim in the hopes of it becoming a franchise similar to Paranormal Activity, Hell House, or V/H/S.
The ending was so bland. It felt like the original movie yet with just the idea the girl is being manipulated and suffering from PTSD.
I mean, it left a door open for a third movie, but this movie would of been super successful if it explored the "Blue Skeleton" group or something. It felt like such a waste and pointless sequel. i recall when I showed my BF the original and I mentioned the sequel in passing he wanted to see it- but when i explained the plot he was not as interested anymore. Grrr this movie makes me mad!

I’m not sure if this is a good place to post this so apologies in advance if this post would be more appropriate somewhere else. If you have a suggestion should that be a concern this is the goal of posting this so thanks in advance for your consideration and comments.
I hope someone has some experienced advice to aid with resolving an ongoing concern related to a very suspicious persistent challenge I’ve had for several years securing employment in Information Technology systems administration and engineering roles.
I’ve been working in IT for twenty years, many of those years as a managed services IT systems analyst and engineer, I’m a Linux specialist and peer mentor or teacher regarded as exceptionally competent world wide by many students I’ve mentored or individuals assisted with IT systems diagnostics concerns.
I’m also a self professed autodidact, have never valued attempting a bachelors degree or attended a university however I pursued Microsoft certification in 2003, skipped the bachelors degree to pursue continuing education systems integration specialist program in 2005 and have been a participating and practicing volunteer Linux distribution developer and user support specialist also for twenty years.
My professional roster of references includes the University of Toledo, signed on letterhead before considering attending college.
My previous employment role was a senior level IT systems engineering role with a very comfortable salary however I've been unemployed for two years and everywhere i've applied has declined, several just stating “we can’t hire you” or it’s good we have many other candidates.
Any attempts to inquire about reasons for for declining to hire in contrast to what appeared to be some desire to want to have been left unanswered or with no response to consider.
I think my previous employer's manager f*cked my reputation somehow despite the positive reference I received and I dont know how but I have some suspicions that I have no knowledge of or familiarity to validate but have considered plausible.
My previous employer operates an award winning respected family owned digital media productions business and is very competent at that task. Every day working there was a pleasant experience akin to watching Bob Ross from my office window.
The staff is very talented and I enjoyed working there but the core infrastructure computer systems they relied on were relied upon too frequently with no secondary IT infrastructure leaving very narrow opportunities for maintenance. This frequently resulted in IT staff being forced to work on sunday mornings perhaps several times a week to update and reboot servers or replace failed storage server disks or other maintaince defect elimination chores if you valued the management avoiding your sphere of influence.
Of course no overtime was considered. the cold draft beer fridge was provided to help you forget about all the other things you could be doing with your weekend.
Extended durations of IT infrastructure systems use without maintenance for example continuing to use end of life network switch equipment for 14 years always eventually creates exponentially more significant reliability problems especially if you’re a business that never reboots for updates or forgot to service your air conditioning condenser units resulting in a July heat wave causing the aircon units to fail to chill and instead blow hot air, overnight... into a sealed concrete room full of server equipment.
I’ve previously been hired in my youth to maintain a bread oven but that was working as a pizza delivery chef. This server room had it not been discovered would have started a fire at very least when the backup tapes all reached flashpoint.
In addition both of the two previous IT staff members were fired or quit leaving all of the responsibility of a business’s IT systems with many defects and reliability concerns to me to attempt to address. Some of the issues I resolved were comical.
For example a 2 cent ethernet cable end with the important role of connecting the main network router to the ISP fiber optic connection disconnected the internet when wiggled slightly for a business with 60 employees because the cable end was stretched and rotten.
To be fair I enjoy these challenges but there’s realistic and reasonable volume of end of life systems affecting reliable business operations one person should have to address when that business entirely relies on Information Technology Infrastructure systems. I used to fix these issues with two to five experienced people as a managed services engineer.
To paraphrase the problems this place needed to be shutdown and tons of important equipment replaced, “everything” reinstalled and repaired but I was trying to duct tape and wood glue the holes in the boat, with sixty passengers while it was traversing an ocean. Both of the windows server virtual machines wouldn’t install winrar.
My manager at the time while a commonly competent digital productions manager appeared to believe his competency with IT systems infrastructure was more competent than they realistically were. Director or manager of IT was among this individual’s employment titles however this fellow had no qualifications and very limited skillset outside computer programming, business administration and digital media talents.
This created some tension when he was forced to display being inept due to inexperience to really understand complex reliability concerns including why using a video display cable reversed such as dvi to displayport was incorrect because micro electronics specifications. While that’s a minor issue the volume of defects and misconfigured IT systems was collectively more than someone with very limited IT engineering experience could comprehend.
I’m a competent IT systems engineer and saved their computer server room from starting a fire on a weekend and the hiring manager.
The relationship started to sour when the company owner tried to "motivate" me to participate in insurance fraud by offering legal assurances by signing cyber security eligibility qualifications documents desired by the insurance underwriter under false pretenses that would have assured the company eligibility for cyber security insurance renewal.
The insurance underwriter ultimately refused to renew the insurance policy until the qualifications were legitimately addressed which I offered to assist with, legitimately any way I’m able to contribute. It was noted business administration concerns are outside my wheelhouse.
This is a business that had also been compromised by ransomware and held for ransom. They had every operating system software update possible entirely disabled, were compromised, paid the ransom, recovered the data and then reinstalled all of the computers again with all of the software updates disabled.
As a result of the state of this businesses IT system defects at the time this business never qualified for cyber security insurance the previous year, before I was responsible for the entire IT department.
I politely declined to illegitimately affirm and sign the documents as I value avoiding being arrested or sued however the company owner and my manager didn’t appear to share my enthusiasm for motivating legal legitimacy. The illegitimacy wasn’t considered a dillemma for the scapegoat.
All of the IT system defects and end of life equipment reliability issues brooded tension where the company owner and hiring manager decided not to renew my contract. I was perhaps even a little pleased to be relieved of the burden of management inept at responsible or reliable IT systems ownership.
I had considered why they fired my predecessor and the other junior tech quit and moved to the opposing side of the country. Evidently that wasn’t a coincidence. If you dont want to answer phone calls a few time zones can become a great avoidance strategy.
After my contract renewal HR meeting with the production studio manager and HR lady had wrapped up where it had been agreed I’m leaving with a positive reference I did recieve and still have for s senior role, unemployment eligibility due to the improvements to the company I completed or endured and the insurance illegitimacy circumstances I had believed everything was fine.
Surely there’s no cause to be concerned by this overall experience where the manager for reasons may have believed I was inept, considering all the IT systems I maintained during my employment term in contrast of all of the references and experience I posses.
My hearing isnt always that great because I have tinnitus so if I'm not paying attention to what someone is discussing nearby or perhaps even on a telephone I may disregard ambient discussions if I’m not observing someone speaking.
I recall the manager muttering something behind my back and the HR lady replying with a comment firmly stating with a concerned tone “but then nobody will hire him again...!?” which followed with what appeared to be a disagreeable exchange followed by where the manager appeared to threaten to fire the HR lady if she didnt comply with his instructions.
I’ve suspected the instructions may have been to add my identify to some HR employee candidate blacklist database.
i'm not completely certain of or if what i heard being discussed was in relation to me because I have tinnitus or if that is a legitimately plausible but I’ve exhausted willingness to continue relying on the positive reference I recieved despite having completed my contract term.
There is it. It’s a tale of plausible abuse by management of a senior employee that quite realistically saved a business from creating of sixty more unemployed employees but I’m still left with concerns if it was possible the HR lady, under duress of being fired from a new position had caved and done something to ensure I would never be hired by anybody.
The HR lady was fantastic but the management certainly didn't display motives with the utmost integrity.

I booked a vacation late last yr to an island & recently invited a few of my girlfriends to come along last minute. We're staying at my families rental so no one has to pay for lodging and I paid for the cost of the car rental so most of the trip is free. Some background info I'm a single mom that has always had my kids 365 24/7 & this will be the first time I've gone on vacay without my kids since they were born.
When I initially invited Anna she said she couldn't come so me and my other friend Tara whose also a single mom planned to go together & have a pretty wild Vegas style vacation.
After Anna found out Tara was coming she texted me “surprise I can come & am booking my ticket” I didn't think much of it and was thinking the more the merrier.
Over the weekend we all went out to dinner and that's when I realized there might be some problems. Anna wanted to split the car rental cost so she can scuba a lot of the time and go hiking etc, neither me nor Tara really want to do these things maybe a few hrs here or there but we're both fearful of the deep ocean & don't really want to hike around which we told Anna who started guilt tripping us & acted like well that's what we're doing anyways. Anna then suggested we all rent mopeds on the days we're not on the same page for doing activities I told her she can get one but that I'll be using the car the whole time, also there's no place to park an extra car rental or moped so that’s not even possible which l've told her repeatedly (the condo managers are sticklers when it comes to parking & I respect that) public transportation isn't much of an option either.
Yesterday Anna texted Tara and said she was going to change her flights to extend her stay with us (Anna didn't ask me and apparently wasn't going to even when Tara told her she needed to talk to me as I have other friends coming during that time and there won't be room) instead of Anna asking me if she could stay longer she texted in the group chat asking if she should bring an air mattress (she had told Tara she was going to bring an air mattress so she could have a place to sleep so she could stay longer). She then made it a point to say she was going to need her sleep during this trip due to her health conditions. This is something that needed to be addressed before she ever said she was coming since the condo is really small and there won't be much if any privacy & we won't be doing much sleeping.
I texted Anna and let her know she can't stay longer as I've made other plans, that this is going to be more of a Vegas / the hangover style vacay and we're going to be keeping crazy hrs, going out having people over & there won't be parking for a moped so I'm getting concerned since she's prob not going to be getting much sleep & it's going to be pretty wild so I wanted to be transparent about what kind of trip this is going to be.
She responded saying she can park in front of my car (she can't & I've been clear about this repeatedly) she'll wear ear plugs (still a problem since the pull out couch would take up the entire living rm so we wouldn't be able to have people over plus the lights will be on) & that the bars close early there so she's not worried. She also went on to say more stuff about her medical issues pretty much reiterated that she needs sleep doesn't drink and that we're not on the same page won’t be wanting to do the same things & made it clear she’s still coming regardless.
I'm going to call her today and talk and am now worried about her going with us as I’ve made my intentions about the trip clear multiple times and she just ignores me and cites her health conditions (she didn’t disclose this would be an issue before she booked her ticket or even bring any of this up until now), it’s also not possible for her to do her own thing as she won’t have a vehicle and there’s only one key to the condo.
At this point I'm not sure what to do. I'm not willing to be flexible or negotiate as this has been my plan for this trip since I booked it, i was initially planning it solo and I won't have this opportunity to blow off steam and be irresponsible again for years. It's also the first time I'm being completely selfish which I've been clear about plus it’s costing me about $3,000.
We leave in 2 wks and I’m worried this is going to turn into the vacation from hell & want to head it off. If anyone can give me any advice on how to head this all off and handle this situation I'd greatly appreciate it.
I should probably also disclose I've barely hung out with or talked to Anna in the last few years but she's close with Tara and I'm now feeling like it's possible she's just coming along to be able to go on vacation to her favorite spot and bulldoze us into doing what she wants.

Me and my ex bf were together for about 5 ish months. We recently ended things a couple days ago. I know a lot of people say high school relationships never last and you will forget about it in the future, which may be true but I’ll never forget how he treated me. I met this kid before my 2nd year high school. He was older than me. I just got out of a relationship with someone else that cheated on me with multiple people. I thought that I wouldn’t be able to like anyone else, I was hurt and I didn’t handle the pain well. Then I met him again. We reconnected and he asked me to be his gf on Christmas Eve. I was over joyed I liked this kid so much. He saved me from a time of hard ache and I thanked him for that. Throughout the months I would be so happy seeing him in the halls, spending time outside of school and everything a happy little couple would do. Fast forward to after spring break. Something happened. I’m not sure on what but he wasn’t making effort to hang out with me anymore. It was always me asking. Which was fine because he would normally say yes, but I get this message from him during class this one day middle of April I believe. He told me that he was stressed out and he thought that I had something with his friend. I had to reassure him that I would never ever do that to him because I know how that feels. He was relieved when I told him but I was kinda scared that he was thinking about that. We talked it out and everything was okay again. But he still didn’t make effort to do anything with me. The last time that I hung out with him outside of school was on May 6th after that everything changed. I had a choir concert that I really wanted him to go to on the 18th of may. He told me that he had soccer practice and wasn’t able to make it. I asked him why? “You know I have solos tonight and I really want you to be there” he told me that he wasn’t able to go because his team had a pet fish that died and he needed to be there for the funeral. Yes guys the burial of a fish. I was really heartbroken because I wanted him to be there. He ended up moving this “fish funeral” to a couple days before. So I asked him “now that you had this fish funeral can you come to my concert?” He said “i have a job orientation and I have practice. It’s open turf, I want to be there”. That really hurt me because you can skip one practice and it’s not going to end everything because my concert had two times one at 5pm and one at 7pm. He had the job orientation at 4 which means he couldn’t come to the first one but why couldn’t he come to the second cus of what soccer? Whatever I did my concert and had fun with my friends. I still was sad that I wouldn’t be able to see him in the crowd but I let it go a couple days later. Fast forward to the end of may. We still haven’t hung out outside of school and I was worried he wouldn’t have time for me in the summer due to the reason that he worked every weekday from 6am-3pm with having soccer 3 times a week. I didn’t have a busy work schedule at the time and was free whenever. I messaged him June 2 and I told him that I was scared that he wouldn’t be able to prioritize me during the summer. I was near his house because of a party and I told him you should come pick me up. I didn’t receive a answer. It was the last day of school and we had all this time to get together before I left out of town for the weekend. He told me he had plans but never specifically said what. And in his defense these were plans that were planned months ago but didn’t resurface till the day of so he didn’t know exactly what they were doing. My close friend messaged me and said “i see your bf at this park” and I said “do you mind taking a picture of him so I can see if it really was him”, and it was. He later answered me and said sorry we couldn’t do anything and said “yn i will prioritize you in the summer” but I was already mad that he didn’t tell me exactly where he was going and answered me hours after. He then messaged me and asked if we could talk. I was scared. My parents knew and I wasn’t admitting it. I answered the call and said. “ I know you have had a shitty week already and I’m sorry but I just can’t do this anymore I think we need to break up”. My heart dropped to the floor. I was in complete shock and I was shaking. I didn’t know how to answer, I didn’t know what to do and it was just silence for a bit. He told me that he was wasting his happiness on me, that I brought negativity, and he has had enough. I sat there and I said “ wasting your happiness?” What do you mean by that. He told me that he just wasn’t happy with me anymore. He told me that he was going to break up with me a week ago prior to this call. I started to cry because all this time that I thought everything was okay he has been faking it this entire time. I asked him. “ why can’t we just talk this out like work on ourselves and stay together”. ( I was trying to save the relationship the best I could) he told me “ I’ve had enough, I’m done” and that really hurt me. He said that he didn’t like it when I used “at least you..” in a sentence. Like example: I’m in the upstairs gym. And to be funny I would always be like “at least you aren’t in the downstairs gym for choir”. He told me that he didn’t like it when I said that. He told me that he couldn’t rant to me because I apparently said that too much. I got really upset because if he really wanted to tell me something serious then he should of just said that. We have had a past conversation about this and I thought he understood but I guess not. But what really made me upset was that he was unhappy and when my friend asked him why he broke up with me he told her “ I was just unhappy with her”. “I wasted my happiness” WHO GIVES THAT AS AN EXCUSE. I am still hurt and I don’t understand why. What negativity did I bring? By saying at least? I was upset that he told my friend what happened before I could. My friend messaged me and said “what did you do” like automatically blaming it on me when I still don’t know what I did or what happened in the last 48 hours. He told my friends but I respected this kid and I didn’t tell his friends that asked what happen. I told them that” when he’s ready he will tell you it’s not my place to say what Happened” I still respected him after the break up. He didn’t. On that call the got angrier and angrier while I was trying to save the relationship and crying and shaking. He didn’t have any remorse really and it seemed like he just went completely heartless. He ended that call by saying “maybe we can restart in the fall if we see each other again”. Originally I was set on that. But the more I think about it why would I want to go back to someone that said I brought them negativity? He un-added me on socials the next morning. I just felt lost I didn’t eat anything for2 days I couldn’t believe that this was real. Who is in the wrong? Any advice at this point. Things I can do to not blame myself, activities I can surround myself with just anything.

I've been dating my partner for about 4 months. For Christmas he was going to surprise me with a puppy. I had never told him I wanted a dog but sometime in the future when I would have my own place and have time for it as it is a big responsibility. The dog ended up dying before he could give it to me. He said he was still going to get one, I said I appreciated the thought but I couldn't handle a dog at the moment because I didn't have time, couldn't have a dog at home, and it just wasn't feasible. We had a small discussion in which he disagreed. 2 weeks after I picked him up to go to the store and he had something hidden in his jacket. I didn't ask him about it until I heard a puppy crying, he showed me and told me it was for me. I appreciated the gesture the gift and told him again that I wouldn't be able to keep it because of the reasons I had stated. He totally disagreed and basically told me I was wrong. We argued back and forth, he told me I had time and it wasn't a problem for me to keep it as I "didn't have anything to do." This made me mad because I have a full time job, go to the gym, have hobbies, and just get busy with life. Plus I wasn't able to keep a puppy at home. I explained myself to him and told him he could keep it, he then said no because it was for me and he could've helped me raise it. I said thank you but no. One day he got upset and he arrived unannounced at my house, he had texted me he was going to drop the dog off. I didn't respond as I was too busy making dinner and cleaning up. He called me about 10 times when I wouldn't answer his texts. I looked out the window and he was parked outside. I finally called back and told me to go outside. I went to the driver side of the car and he had the puppy with him, he told me to take it because it was mine and he didn't want it with him. I pleaded and begged him to take it home because I couldn't he ignored me and gave it to me. I started bawling because I didn't know what to do. Through tears I told him to give me a day while I find an owner. After I cried/pleaded for 10minutes he looked at me in the eyes with no expression and said okay I'll take it and then left. His cousin was in the passenger side and little niece was in the back watching this all go down. I was embarrassed but more so mad at the fact he humiliated me and played these games with me. edit 2023, i broke up with him shortly after. He was a narcissist and treated me bad.

My friend died. Like literally fucking died at 14 and she was an incredible light and I love her sm. Obviously there’s been a lot a grief, and she and I were really close. I told my dad and he asked how she died. Like bro even I know not to do that. He tried calling me so I said I was about to go to her funeral (like… your child is going to her child friend’s funeral) and I quote:

Fucking sickened. First off, he says again. I had talked about my friend ONCE. This was the second time I mentioned it, before her FUNERAL. But again, BABE (which he has always called me. Gross. It’s like the girlfriend experience but he is my father 🤢🤢)

I haven’t seen him in over a year even though we used to live two hours away from each other. Key word is used to, because within months of me moving FROM ACROSS THE COUNTRY so we could be closer he leaves. I literally don’t know where tf he lives and he has made an effort to not let on about where he is.
Before I moved to my current state he saw me 1-2 times a year, and we’d call sometimes. When he would see me it would usually be for thanksgiving with his family, since that’s in the custody agreement, and the only time he’d actually try to see his kid.
He has a disabled child (me) and he has never been to a single doctor’s appointment. He’s called me a drug addict for taking my medication and insisting he needs to buy my medication when on trips together.
Like I read this thing by Bell Hooks about love vs shame, humiliation, and care. How you can care for someone without loving them, but he doesn’t even fucking care about me. I was sick as FUCK on the last family trip I went with his side on (they aren’t much better than him but like love and light) and he told me it was mental. Literally was very ill and could barely go to the bathroom (with a past of related issues!!!) he did jack shit. Took me to the doctor after I called my mom and told her (guilted me the whole time too. Fuck you man idgaf if it’s expensive my mom pays more for neurologist appointments regularly and he makes significantly more. )
He told the doctor I was faking so they didn’t even do anything just sent me out after talking to him.
Went home early and had a really obvious and bad infection, my mom picked up the pieces.
There’s just a lot. He lied about the woman he had been talking and apparently engaged to. I kept asking him because he always lies and doesn’t tell me if he is seeing someone. At first he said a fee days, then only over two months, and then finally I got him to be honest with the engagement timeline. He had been seeing her for two years. He had been building a relation with her children for two years.
He’s missed nearly all my birthdays
Anyway there’s more, but isn’t there always? I don’t want to give anymore energy to this today because I have a lot of wonderful stuff in my life. I start my first job today!! I told him I got a job but he didn’t ask about it.

My Ex who I dated for 6 years... wanted to share some weird things that he did. Anyone else have something similar - and are these "small" things bad? Sometimes since he was so subtle and not "mean" with his words, I felt like I couldn't be mad.
- We had planned to catch up on the phone one weekend (we did distance), and at the last minute, texts me saying that his baseball team had lost and he is too sad to talk to me
- Would say he was too sick to speak with me, but later went out with his friends for drinks. When I called him out on this, he said "well, I didn't drink"
- Told him that I would have loved to spend Christmas with him but didn't feel comfortable inviting myself to his family home (he is 25 and lives with parents). he said "well I Didn't not invite you"
-Would hide snacks from me and then say "ok, you can eat one"
-Often would say he wanted to kick my neighbors small dog out the window
-One time slammed on the breaks while driving because he thought it would be funny. When I got upset, he laughed like the Joker
-- I asked him why he still wanted to be friends if we were broken up and he said, “If I was about to jump off a bridge, then I know I could call you”
-Would tell him I wanted to go on vacation in X location. he'd shrug off the idea, and then later told me he is taking time off from work to go visit X location with friends, w/o inviting me.
-- Would always play victim with long distance. He would say “you know how hard distance is for me”, never acknowledging that it was also hard for me. Almost felt like to me that I was forcing him to be in the relationship.
-Would always want to leave places earlier. Ie. if we went on a day trip somewhere, he wanted to come home after a few hours. If we went and visited a new city, he wanted to eat at Whole Foods or someplace familiar for lunch instead of trying something new
- Was upset since he didn't know my birthday a year into our relationship, and then said "you're making me feel bad since im not good with dates"
-He always had to pick the movie. One time I wanted to watch a foreign movie, and he closed the laptop halfway through since he didn’t like the subtitles. He didnt even ask if we could pause first.
-He'd have nightmares and sleep walk
-- Listens to the same 5 songs over and over again. on repeat 8x a day. for years.
-- He would always try and have sex with me while I was crying. I asked him why, and he said it turned him on.
-I would send him messages (sometimes something more serious, sometimes just a funny video) and he would often pick and choose which pieces he would respond to. I asked him why he did this, and he said something like, “I don’t have to respond to everything you send me”.
-VERY sensitive to criticism. One time the people at the post office did not take a package (not sure the reason - think it needed to be in a box and he didn't bring a box) and he came home and called them "horrible people". he said he saw them treat someone else very nice, but not him. AND then said he couldn't wait to tell his parents about what happened. (His parents were like ?? why are you mad at this)
-The ticket checker at an airline did not smile at him so he wrote a 5 paragraph essay to the airline that he was insulted and demanded an explanation because he was a loyal member of the airline.
-Once he woke up in the morning, he would wake me up and try and snuggle, even if i was still asleep. When I woke up before him, I'd read in bed or leave the room to let him rest

Every small town has its urban legend, utilized to pass the time as the tedious years go by. My hometown of Sour Lake, Texas, was no different. The last time I saw anyone excited was when a Sonic Drive-In moved into the old Pizza Hut building. I guess we tell these stories so the boredom doesn’t drive us insane.
What distinguishes Sour Lake from the other tiny dots on the map is the vast region of trees in our backyard. We fall right at the edge of “The Big Thicket,” a vast forest stretching over forty thousand miles and five states. There’s a trail that leads out of town and into the woods. If you follow the path for about half a mile, you’ll run into an open clearing of grass surrounded by giant, spindly Southern Live Oak trees.
And this is where our legend begins.
Texas doesn’t really have seasons. It gets hot, and if you’re lucky, it sometimes gets cold. But in Sour Lake, without fail, we get strong gusts of winds that signify the end of summer and the beginning of autumn. The winds are so powerful they rattle the trees, making them “whisper.”
The legend states that if you go to the clearing around midnight, the trees will tell you a secret only you can know. The secrets are a mix of good and bad. Some learn a clue that leads to luck and fortune. Others get a premonition that leads to inevitable pain and suffering.
My grandfather, always a jokester, claimed that the trees told him my Nana had a crush on him when they were in high school. My Nana said the woods informed her of her father’s impending death. They would regale my siblings and me with tales of people who suffered horrible fates and somehow always tied it to children behaving poorly.
It was all a load of horseshit. My grandpa bribed my Nana’s brother to retrieve her diary for him to snoop through. My great-grandpappy was close to four hundred pounds and was essentially a walking heart attack. He “mysteriously” dropped dead when my Nana was in high school. Still, every year, a group of teenagers take the path out of town and listen to the trees.
There were rules, though. The winds would blow for a week or so, but you could only receive one secret per year. Those who tried to break this rule would have their secret forfeited, and they would be cursed. You could also never disclose the secret to anyone until it happened. If you shared your secret with someone, you would again be cursed. I was never sure what the curse “was,” but supposedly, it was worse than death itself.
I was always skeptical of the story but was convinced by my group of friends to make the trip during the last week of September. It was 1992. I had just started my freshman year of high school and was determined to fall in with the “popular” crowd. At the time, that meant doing whatever anyone else was doing. Plus, the idea of sneaking out of my house past curfew gave me a huge adrenaline rush.
My best friend Matt Stevens came by my bedroom window around 11:30 pm. I walked past my parent’s room and heard the loud snores of my dad giving me the green light to leave. Matt was waiting with some older kids and my new crush, Sophie Barrett. I knew I had to do something memorable to impress her.
We trekked to the clearing, giggling and whispering amongst ourselves, our only light source being a weak flashlight and the dim Harvest Moon. I remember Johnny Polk, a smooth-talking junior, smoking cigarettes and offering drags to the other girls. Sophie laughed at his jokes the hardest, and I was emboldened to make a grander first impression.
Sometimes I wonder….
We soon reached the glade and laid out blankets on the grass. The giant Southern Live Oaks formed a circle around us, with the tallest at the crest of the clearing circle. Even now, those trees make me feel so small, with their long contorting branches almost reaching out to touch you. They would have covered the sky if not for the gargantuan moon. I suddenly began to feel very unsettled. Our entire group fell silent, and you could only hear nothing but the winds approaching.
The trees began to shake and rattle, swaying their branches as the gusts moved through them. Leaves puttered down to the Earth, getting caught on our hair and clothes. I closed my eyes to listen and was surprised to hear a sound similar to whispers, though they were intelligible. I guessed this was how the legend started.
I studied the tallest tree again, looming over me like my father did while I was in trouble. There was something strange about it. I couldn’t quite describe it, but it was odd that one tree was more prominent than the rest. It didn’t just feel like a tree; it felt like something more, though I didn’t know what. I remember hiding my face in shame to avoid the tree’s gaze.
I glanced over at Johnny, who was muttering something in Sophie’s ear while she giggled with her hand over her mouth. My face burned with a confusing and unwanted rage. Now was my chance.
I hopped up and marched toward the giant tree, ignoring the other folks as they whisper-shouted at me to stop. I grabbed the first branch I could reach and began to climb, hearing the cheers and jeers from below. I arrived near the top and looked at my friends, now looking like mindless insects. I removed my shirt and tied it to the tallest branch I could reach, making my mark like Neil Armstrong did when he landed on the moon, which now seemed so close.
I shuffled down the tree, basking in the hooping and hollering of the older kids. “Jesus, that Jimmie kid is gnarly,” one of the older guys said. Sophie ran up to me and pushed my chest, “Jimmie Anderson, you had me worried sick!” she yelled angrily before starting to laugh. I puffed out my bare chest when I noticed Johnny Polk sulking in the corner.
I sat next to Sophie for the rest of the night, looking at her as the breeze lifted her blonde hair, not knowing I was in love for the first time. We stayed for a bit longer until one of Sophie’s friends said she wanted to go home. “I feel like we’re being watched or something,” she whispered, clearly rattled. We brushed her off at first, but I also remember feeling off….like we weren’t the only ones in the clearing.
We got up and made our way home. I walked Sophie back to her house when she asked me on the porch if the trees told me a secret. I replied no, and Sophie said she didn’t either, but I remember feeling like she wasn’t truthful with me. However, I didn’t protest when she impulsively kissed me and hustled inside. I floated back to my house on clouds, not even caring that my parents were waiting in the kitchen to tear my ass a new one.
The rest of my life began on that day.
I finished high school and went to college in Houston before attending law school in Austin. I passed the bar and surprisingly found myself back in Sour Lake when new mayor Matt Stevens convinced me to run for District Attorney. I won in a landslide victory and moved back home. Sophie Barrett was by my side the entire time. We married shortly after the move, and she confessed to me that the trees told her she was among her future husband that night. I laughed, thinking she was telling me a joke.
Now, I’m not so sure.
I’ve never been back to that forest clearing. After all, it was just a stupid tale to pass the time and let young adults get their first taste of independence. I was too busy anyways, spending my days locking up drunk drivers and the occasional bar fight or indecent exposure. It was a peaceful life.
I’ve been prosecuting cases in Sour Lake for almost twenty years now. Never once did I have a murder case on my docket. Never once did I anticipate that the darkest recesses of humanity from other cities would creep into our boring but tranquil town.
But they did.
Last October, Sadie Anderson, a fourteen-year-old freshman at Henderson High School, was found behind a dumpster near a campsite in the forest. Sadie had been stabbed over fifty times, and her body was initially unrecognizable until her poor mother identified her by the small birthmark on her shoulder. She suffered. There could have been no doubt about it.
The whole town was shaken. No one I talked to could remember a murder, much less that of a child. We combed the entire county for every pedophile and gutter punk, but police found nothing that could place any of them at the scene of the murder. Every hour that passed was its own personal hell. Sadie’s mother checked herself into a mental facility as she was tempted to harm herself. I remember her telling me she wanted to suffer like her daughter suffered.
The investigation began to stall until two weeks ago when Kaylin Booker’s mother found a concerning entry while snooping through her fourteen-year-old daughter’s diary. Kaylin's journal listed a plan detailing how her friends Maddie Spears and Becca Hollis invited her out into the woods.
When Kaylin arrived at the campsite one Saturday evening, Becca and Maddie were there with Sadie Anderson. The two girls then produced two cheap kitchen knives purchased from the dollar store and stabbed Sadie Anderson to death. They then forced Kaylin to help conceal the body and warned her they would do the same if she told. When questioned by the police, the two girls confessed. And when asked why they would kill their friend, the girls stated plainly:
“Because the trees told us to.”
Pandaemonium ripped through Sour Lake, and parents furiously turned on the town. Children were now forbidden to go to the woods, and a permanent curfew was instituted by Mayor Stevens. Conspiracy theories and vicious rumors spread through the town, pitting lifelong friends against each other. Thousands of dollars were spent to quash headlines like “Urban Legend Leads to Murder?” or “A New Slenderman in Sour Lake?”
The girls remained steadfast and even obstinate that the trees told them to kill one of their best friends. The friend who was always kind and loyal to them. The friend who listened to their problems and helped them find solutions. The same friend who never missed a stupid birthday or gossipy sleepover. The friend who showed them nothing but kindness and love because that’s the way she was raised to treat others.

I had to recuse myself from the case, of course. After all, what DA can be impartial when prosecuting his only daughter’s killers? The girls have now refused to cooperate with law enforcement. One of my colleagues, a lawyer from Beaumont, has been assigned to the case. He’s recommended placing both the girls in an institution until their 21st birthday and making this all go away quietly. I am too numb to feel anything about the deal. All I can think about is Becca and Maddie staring straight into my soul with dead, unflinching eyes at their arraignments. One of them seemed to smirk.
I’m sitting alone on the couch with the TV on for background noise. My oldest son, back from college, stares into space, checking his phone to see if his mother called. My middle son, a high school junior, is locked in his room. I can feel his anger and confusion seeping down the staircase. I don’t know how to talk to him.
I get up and leave the house without anyone noticing. I follow the path into the woods as the sweltering May heat sticks my shirt to my skin. There will be no Autumn winds tonight. I enter the clearing and sit down on the grass. I can feel the weight of the trees circling around me, leaning in to scrutinize me after all these years. The moon shines above me, bearing witness in its crescent phase as if it’s hiding behind a corner. I light a cigarette and let the flame of the lighter dance on my palm.
The giant tree I climbed all those years ago stares down at me like a judge on the bench. Its branches slowly sway in the slight breeze, cracking and moaning as if it’s taunting me. I close my eyes and listen to the forest hum. My ears begin to twitch.
“...this...iS…wHaT….YoU….GET….” I think I hear faintly in the distance. I nod somberly.
In these woods, the trees whisper.
Tonight, they’ll scream.
