Can I replace 2 ceiling fan capacitors with a 3-in-1?
I need to replace one of my ceiling fan capacitors, but I can’t find the exact same one anywhere! One has 2 wires, while the busted one has 3 wires, which is the one I can’t find. Would I be able to replace both with a 3-in-1? The only problem is there’s no white (lights) wire in the new capacitor if I was to do this. Is this still feasible? It’s a really pretty fan and don’t want to replace it.
Including a picture of the working 2 wire capacitor, and the melted 3 wire I can’t find anywhere. And this is the capacitor I would be replacing both for: https://www.menards.com/main/lighting-ceiling-fans/ceiling-fans/ceiling-fan-parts-accessories/patriot-lighting-trade-ceiling-fan-triple-capacitocp2001/p-60892188336-c-7484.htm

I broke my new bathtub fixture and now there’s a constant drip from my faucet. How do I fix it?
I installed a whole new plumbing fixture for my showebathtub and I was trying to adjust the heat setting. I was a fool and turned this piece with a wrench (it did nothing for the heat.) and now there is a steady drip. I tried to tighten the piece more -probably a mistake- and that did not help the drip. What do I need to do to fix this issue?

2023.06.02 17:07 grizzinator Difference in Avant and Fortress

Hello, I am redoing my deck. Putting down MoistureShield composite deck boards and am looking for a railing. I was looking for some railings as I was reading through this subreddit. I remembered looking at Avant and checking out their lighting kits from fortress. Fortress was a familiar name from this subreddit.
They appear to be manufactured by the same parent company, but the Fortress FE26 is roughly $24 more expensive. Any idea why? Both sold at Menards. Both carry warranty.
Can I buy manufacturer direct to get a better price?

2023.06.02 15:57 cr4zybilly Gatekeeper (gated g-hooks) up on Thingiverse

Gatekeeper (gated g-hooks) up on Thingiverse
I was wanting some gated g-hooks to use with a Tom Bihn backpack I recently bought - they recommend using gated g-hooks like these, which they call a gatekeeper.
While they're not expensive, I wasn't sure how well they'd do what I needed, so I drew up a couple different versions to print. Then I used some 1mm bailing wire as the gates (I think I bought it at Menards) and bent it to shape.
The designs are up on Thingiverse now, both designed for 1" webbing:
  • Big size - easier to open/close gate, feels bulky
  • Small size - pain to open/close, feels about right
I believe the regular size is about what the originals are, but the design felt too bulky to me, so I tweaked the design slightly to feel better at a smaller size. However, it's much easier to open/close the gate on the larger version than the smaller version (because the arm has more give to it).
These are both designed for 1" webbing. However, the scad file is included and is parametric, so you can (theoretically) make it different sizes for different sizes of webbing. I'm not making any promises about how well things will work at wildly different sizes.
Of course, if you're printing these in PLA like I did, they're not going to be super strong--I probably wouldn't trust them for things on the outside of a bag, but they seem sufficient for securing pouches INSIDE the bag.

2023.06.02 02:20 echoorains Help- cannot find right part for kitchen sink sprayer

Hi there! I am having a heck of a time finding the right sink sprayer+hose because apparently we have the least common attachment for it. I am referring to the end of the hose opposite the sprayer handle side, where it connects up into the sink facet under the sink.
It is a quick connect, but it’s slightly different from all the in store ones I found (lowes guy spent 20 mins trying to help me figure this out). It has 2 of the little black bands and then also has this thing that sticks out on 2 sides that spins around, and I think it is what clicks up in the mechanism and holds it in place.
Even when I do a google search I can’t find anything like it, and can’t figure out how to search it. I’ll include some images of the part that goes up into the sink and then the part under the sink it goes in to.
Any help GREATLY appreciated, this has been 2 weeks and 4 trips to menards or Lowe’s, and I’m going insane :) Thank you! Images below:
https://imgur.com/a/kMYgmX1
Edit to add: myself, my husband, and my father in law have all looked and there is NO WHERE on the sink/under the sink/in the sink that says what brand it is. The Lowe’s guy didn’t believe me and then I showed him a video of me looking everywhere and we were both defeated.

Found a simple solution
This rosin paper is biodegradable and nontoxic and covers a large area with ease. Once wetted it lays contour to the ground and works as well as cardboard for preventing weeds and layering your soul. It does prevent some moisture transfer but does not prevent it entirely and holes are simple enough to poke.

2023.05.30 16:18 WiseassWolfOfYoitsu Expanded crawl access well

Planning on running some wiring in my crawl. The crawl itself and access door are plenty large enough for me to get through, I've done crawl work before in places where the access door is higher, but in this house it's entirely below ground level and accessed through a well that must require any crew accessing it pick their smallest guy and not let him eat breakfast that morning. From the looks of it, the well used to be deeper, but the builders neglected to properly anchor the sides and the soil has compressed it back toward the door over time.
Since I want to be able to access this, I plan on removing the current well, digging out the area around it, and putting something more spacious in its place. I've seen a few options and wondered what experience people had with them. One would be the Turtl. It looks solid, but it's fairly pricey. Other options I've considered would be larger steel wells like this, a fiberglass egress well normally used for basement escape windows, or building something out of brick.

2023.05.30 04:47 DryConcentrate7127 Sand Point Well Questions

Hello everyone, I am going to be installing a 2" sand well point and have some questions I am hoping you all can help answer. Before I go into the questions this well point is going to be used for watering our garden with wobbler sprinklers, along with a potential future lawn irrigation system for 3/4-1 acre My questions are as follows.
  1. I am going to be renting a electric jackhammer to drive the 2" pipe into the ground. That being said I know you're supposed to use drive couplings, however I saw someone made a comment somewhere on the forums saying to remove the drive couplings once installed and that confused me....Can't I just use drive couplings for each section of pipe and leave it in there?
  2. I was planning on using teflon tape for each connection. Should I also be using pipe dope for each section of pipe as added protection?
  3. I am looking to irrigate the garden and potentially a future lawn sprinkler system for 1 acre. I know the size of the pump is going to be contingent upon the flow of water, and I don't want the pump to outrun the flow of water but I am thinking of going with a 1HP pump from Harbor Freight and a 14 gallon pressure tank. I am going to have to reduce the pipe from 2" to the 1 1/4" inlet but I am hoping this is correctly sized.
  4. If I go with this 1HP Harbor Freight Pump will I have to upgrade to a 20 amp circuit or larger? I will have an electrician wire this for me, however just looking to understand if there's any caveats I might encounter before trenching a line for the electrical.
  5. Will I regret going with either a Harbor Freight or Pump from Menards, or is there not much a difference quality wise vs other brands found online?

2023.05.29 19:14 gubaguy Making a Lotr costume, need advice on materials.

So, long story short, LGS is doing a contest for the release of the lord mtg set in under 2 weeks. Everyone who enters gets 1 free pack, best costume gets 1 collector pack.
I decided to go with a witch king of angmar costume since it's basically a ring wraith outfit with a few extra details. And ring wraiths are fairly simple with just a black cloak.
Having said that, I found some patterns online for the gauntlets and helmet, have all the glove bits cut out on semi sturdy paper, have about a third of the helmet done (because upscaling is hard and I hate it).
But I need some advice on what I can use that might be better then semi sturdy paper for the armour bits. And before anyone says it, EVA foam is off the table, unless I can get it at my local craft store or menards. I don't have the time or money to be ordering online right now, so gotta shop local and cheap.
So what are some alternatives? I jave considered cardboard, and foam board. Foam board doesnt bend well so that has been written off, cardboard is only slightly more durable then the paper, and once it bends it can ruin the look.
So what are some good (cheap) alternatives to eva foam, that I can pick up locally?

2023.05.28 20:48 WhippersnapperUT99 Which of these seven sub-$500 grills should I buy?

Do you like comparison shopping? Help me settle on a pellet smoker grill.
The snow has melted, the sun has come out, and my wife has developed a carnal urge to smoke meats and wants to get a smoker. We are complete smoker noobs. What is the best smoker for us in terms of results, ease of use, longevity, and cost? Being in a cold climate an insulated one might be of value, but not make or break. We are only cooking for two people, so willing to sacrifice size for performance, build quality, and electronics reliability and longevity.
As I see it, we have 7 candidates at decent price points for us that can be purchased either locally or ordered with free shipping. A cover is a must, so prices include separate purchase of a cover if not included with the grill. What do you guys think is the best value for smoker noobs?
Are there any other candidates we should consider in the sub-$500 price range? Cost is a significant factor, so the higher the price the better the build quality, electronics reliability, and longevity need to be.
I kind of have the $327 Pit Boss in the lead based on price. The Sam's Club Member's Mark deal has the bells and whistles (minus Bluetooth) but all of the complaints are scary. I would also strongly consider the Recteq and the Camp Chef, and I'm intrigued by the Broil King. Are the Recteq and Broil King in a different league than the others?
