On a socialist political platform for Western democracies, in the vein of politicians like Bernie Sanders and Andrés Manuel López Obrador ("AMLO"). A unique voice for the economically left and socially moderate, seeking to unite the working class in the Western world across the political party lines that seek to divide us with identity politics and tribalism. For workers in the private sector, for citizens in the public sector, and for the people always.

2023.06.05 15:07 Kiranmathew103 Rubber Outdoor Tiles
Rubber outdoor tiles can be a perfect solution for anyone who is looking for an easy way to improve the appearance and functionality of outdoor spaces. These tiles offer an array of benefits that make them a popular choice among various customers. The following article takes a closer look at
rubber outdoor tiles, exploring their features, applications, and benefits.
What are Rubber Outdoor Tiles?
Rubber outdoor tiles are floor tiles made of various types of rubber material designed to withstand various environmental elements and weather conditions. The tiles are available in different shapes, sizes, colors, and styles suitable for a wide range of outdoor applications. Some of the common types of rubber outdoor tiles include:
- Interlocking rubber tiles: These are tiles that snap together, making them easy to install without using adhesives.
- Rubber pavers: These are individual tiles that resemble concrete pavers in appearance, but they're made from recycled rubber materials and offer added durability.
- Rolled rubber flooring: This type of flooring involves a mat that can be rolled out, offering seamless coverage over larger surfaces.
Applications of Rubber Outdoor Tiles
Rubber outdoor tiles come in handy in various outdoor areas, including playgrounds, patios, decks, rooftops, balconies, and pool areas. These tiles are versatile and can transform any outdoor space into a safe, attractive, and functional area.
Playgrounds
Rubber outdoor tiles provide an ideal surface in playgrounds, as they are durable and soft, offering added safety for kids playing on them. The tiles cushion falls, reducing the risk of injuries, while their non-slip surface offers added grip, even during wet weather conditions. They also add an aesthetic appeal to playgrounds with their various colors and designs, making them more visually appealing.
Patios and Decks
Rubber outdoor tiles can transform patios and decks into beautiful, functional outdoor living spaces. They offer a slip-resistant surface that makes these areas safer, especially in wet conditions. The tiles also withstand sun exposure, preventing fading, cracking, or warping. They come in various textures, including natural stone, slate, and wood, making them suitable for different patio and deck designs.
Rooftops and Balconies
Rubber outdoor tiles offer an excellent flooring solution for rooftops and balconies, as they're lightweight and easy to install. These tiles feature excellent drainage and are perfect for areas exposed to water and harsh weather conditions. They also add insulation to rooftops, thus reducing energy costs by keeping the house cool during hot weather.
Pool Areas
Rubber outdoor tiles are the perfect solution for areas around the pool. They offer a slip-resistant surface that prevents falls, while their cushioning feature prevents injuries that may occur following accidental falls. What's more, rubber tiles are easy to maintain, and cleaning them is a breeze, requiring only soap and water.
Benefits of Rubber Outdoor Tiles
Rubber outdoor tiles offer myriad benefits for homeowners and commercial businesses alike. Here are some benefits of using rubber outdoor tiles.
Durability
Rubber outdoor tiles are durable and can withstand various outdoor elements. They're impervious to water, making them an excellent solution for outdoor spaces exposed to water and moisture. Rubber tiles don't crack or warp under harsh weather conditions, making them an ideal choice for outdoor applications.
Low Maintenance
Rubber outdoor tiles require minimal maintenance since they're made of durable materials that don't require special treatments. The tiles only need sweeping to get rid of dirt and debris. They're also easy to clean, requiring little effort to restore their appearance.
Safety
Rubber outdoor tiles come with excellent slip-resistant features, making them an ideal option for areas like playgrounds, pool areas, and patios. In their wet state, these tiles grip the ground, making them less slippery and, therefore, reducing the risk of falls and injuries.
Attractive Appearance
Rubber outdoor tiles come in various colors, designs, and styles, making them an excellent addition to any outdoor area. They can transform dull outdoor surfaces into beautiful, functional spaces that can complement any home or commercial business's exterior décor.
Eco-Friendly
Most rubber outdoor tiles are made of recycled rubber materials, making them eco-friendly and ideal for anyone looking for an environmentally friendly flooring solution. They reduce waste by reusing rubber materials, help improve indoor air quality, and minimize drain on natural resources.
Conclusion
Rubber outdoor tiles offer myriad benefits that make them an excellent flooring solution for various outdoor applications. Their durability, eco-friendliness, safety, and attractive appearance make them a popular choice for homeowners and commercial businesses alike. They're perfect for transforming outdoor spaces into functional, safe, and attractive areas. 2023.06.05 15:02 randomwellwisher The Man Reimagining Disney Classics for Today’s World
Profile on Sean Bailey, president of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production —— Concerning Johnny and Pirates: Restarting the five-film “Pirates of the Caribbean” series is another priority, although nothing official has been announced. “We think we have a really good, exciting story that honors the films that have come before but also has something new to say,” Mr. Bailey said. Will the franchise’s problematic star, Johnny Depp, return as Captain Jack Sparrow? “Noncommittal at this point,” Mr. Bailey said, seemingly inching the door open. —— Entire text: By Brooks Barnes June 4, 2023 For more than a decade, Sean Bailey has run Disney’s animated film “reimagining” factory with quiet efficiency and superhero-sized results. His live-action “Aladdin” collected $1.1 billion at the box office, while a photorealistic “The Lion King” took in $1.7 billion. A live-action “Beauty and the Beast” delivered $1.3 billion. Disney likes the cash. The company also views Mr. Bailey’s remake operation as crucial to remaining relevant. Disney’s animated classics are treasured by fans, but most showcase ideas from another era, especially when it comes to gender roles: Be pretty, girls, and things might work out. The reimaginings, as Mr. Bailey refers to his remakes, find ways to make Disney stories less retrograde. His heroines are empowered, and his casting emphasizes diversity. A live-action “Snow White,” set for release next year, stars the Latina actress Rachel Zegler as the princess known as “the fairest of them all.” Yara Shahidi played Tinker Bell in the recent “Peter Pan and Wendy,” making her the first Black woman to portray the character onscreen. “We want to reflect the world as it exists,” Mr. Bailey said. But that worldview — and business strategy — has increasingly put Disney and Mr. Bailey, a low-profile and self-effacing executive, in the middle of a very loud, very unpolite cultural fight. For every person who applauds Disney, there seems to be a counterpart who complains about being force-fed “wokeness.” Many companies are finding themselves in this vise — Target, Anheuser-Busch, Nike — but Disney, which has a powerful impact on children as they are forming life beliefs, has been uniquely challenged. In this hyperpartisan moment, both sides of the political divide have been pounding on Disney to stand with them, with movies that come from Mr. Bailey’s corner of the Magic Kingdom as prime examples. Consider his remake of “The Little Mermaid,” which arrived in theaters two weeks ago and cost an estimated $375 million to make and market. The new version scuttles problematic lyrics from the 1989 original. (“It’s she who holds her tongue who gets a man.”) In the biggest change, Halle Bailey, who is Black, plays Ariel, the mermaid. Disney has long depicted the character as white, including at its theme parks. Support for Ms. Bailey, notably from people of color and film critics, has been offset by a torrent of racist commentary on social media and movie fan sites. Others have blasted “The Little Mermaid” for failing to acknowledge the horrors of slavery in the Caribbean. A few L.G.B.T.Q. people have criticized Disney for hiring a straight male makeup artist for the villainous Ursula, whose look in the animated film was inspired by a drag queen. Disney has long regarded these kinds of social media storms as tempests in teapots: trending today, replaced by a new complaint tomorrow. In 2017, for instance, a theater in Alabama refused to play the live-action “Beauty and the Beast” because it contained a three-second glimpse of two men dancing in each other’s arms. It became a global news story. Ultimately, the fracas seemed to have no impact on ticket sales. The upshot? Disney hoped “The Little Mermaid” would generate as much as $1 billion worldwide, with the furor evaporating once the film arrived in theaters. Feedback scores from test screenings were strong, as were early reviews. “Alan Menken just told me that he thinks this one is better than the animated film,” Robert A. Iger, Disney’s chief executive, said at the film’s premiere last month, referring to the Oscar-winning composer. Instead, “The Little Mermaid” will top out closer to $600 million, box office analysts said on Sunday, largely because the film faltered overseas, where it was “review bombed,” with online trolls flooding movie sites with racist one-star reviews. The film has done well in North America, outperforming “Aladdin” and receiving an A grade from ticket buyers in CinemaScore exit polls, although attendance by white moviegoers has been soft in some parts of the United States, according to analysts. Support from Black and Latino audiences have made up the slack. Mr. Bailey declined to comment on the racist responses to the film. “While the international opening was softer than we would have liked, the film is playing exceptionally well which we believe sets us up for a very long run,” he said on Saturday. Mr. Bailey, 53, has survived box office shoals that were far worse, including misfires like “The Lone Ranger.” The less said about his live-action “Mulan,” the better. But Disney has always supported him. “I’ve taken some big swings and had some big misses,” Mr. Bailey said. “I’m grateful that the leadership of the company understands that is part of any creative business.” (Cont’d in comments) submitted by randomwellwisher to JusticeForJohnnyDepp [link] [comments]
2023.06.05 15:02 war_pig Best Camera for Narrow and Long Driveway?
Hello, I have a long and narrow driveway and have been wanting to upgrade my current camera setup for this area of my house. Dimensions are 58 Feet long x 9 Feet Wide x 13 Feet Height (where camera is mounted). I'm currently using an Amcrest IP5M-T1179EW-36MM which hasn't really been cutting it in terms of detection ever since I installed it. Tried a lot of troubleshooting steps a few years ago and just gave up on it. I mean it still detects people but you have to be like within 25 feet -- which is already half my drive way. I started with Deepstack to CPAI with no luck. I think its just a camera not suited for this spot. Unfortunately, the camera position (13 feet high) is the only place I can mount it. I know if I mount it lower and closer, Ill probably get better results but because of how the pillar is and how it is placed, I can't mount it anywhere else. Here is a basic picture of my driveway: https://preview.redd.it/p121v659474b1.png?width=1127&format=png&auto=webp&s=df17f7b68b7d34242c77af2edac7825372e5d170 I was looking at 4mm and 6mm lens to see if it would be a better choice for this narrow driveway - but I will leave that to the experts. I really would prefer a camera without IR as this camera position is plagued by some flying insects as soon as they see the IR light at night. Night Color is really preferred for me if possible. Anyone knows what would be the best camera that can detect as far as 55~ish feet with Night color (instead of IR)? Thanks! submitted by war_pig to BlueIris [link] [comments]

2023.06.05 15:00 dreemcos Extreme regret over buying a house with issues
My husband and I recently bought a house and I am absolutely beside myself with regret. Please do not reply that we shouldn't have bought this house, I already know that and the regret I have is debilitating to the point that I feel I need to get psychological help and prescribed medication just to function as a human being and go to my job. The house has sloping floors which I barely noticed when we saw the house (had rosy colored glasses on because I was excited to buy and make something our own). It had been on the market for a while (initially had been priced super high) and was in the perfect location for what we wanted. Inspection went okay, he pointed out the sloping floors (which are literally everywhere) and that the crawl space was very low (8-10 inches) but that it was common. He recommended we have a contractor look at the floors to give an estimate to level the sloping and then factor that in to our decision to move forward, which came back at ~$5K (he said it would be ballpark $ just so we'd have something to show the sellers to try to negotiate). I had asked the inspector if we should hire a structural engineer but he said a general contractor could do it just fine. Now that we're in the house, the floor sloping is extreme. It basically feels like I'm taking a step down to go into the bathroom and the utility room in the back has a 2-3 inch gap between the floor and the wall because of the sloping. To add to it, there is no attic access so the inspector was not able to inspect that (huge red flag, I know now). It was an investor flip and I should have ran from the first time we saw it but the location was ideal and we liked certain aspects. The contractor who originally gave us the quote to fix the floors didn't know how small the crawl space was so now can't do that work and said we'd need to have tunnels dug up in the crawl space or pull up the floors to fix it from above. I'm including pictures from the inspection for reference. There's some cracks which I included too, inspector said it was cosmetic and wasn't concerned.
It appraised for the price we bought it at and with the inspector basically saying all houses have their issues, we felt comfortable moving forward. It is without a doubt the biggest mistake I've ever made and I have no idea why we bought it. It doesn't help that we don't have any prior experiencing buying. Something about the way I was feeling before we closed felt like regret/dread but I chalked it up to cold feet and was just was going off what I knew and thinking $5K wasn't worth it to walk away.
At this point, I have no idea what to do or who to talk to about attempting to salvage it. I'd be more than willing to take whatever loss on it to just sell it and get out, but know there's no way we'd be able to sell it given all these issues and the fact that we literally just bought it 3 months ago.
I'm willing to do whatever I have to do to fix it but I just don't even know where to start. I'm so beside myself with grief/regret and wish I could go back in time and not buy this house. Please please any advice on how to help us get through this is recommended. I also hope this serves as a warning to everyone out there to trust your gut and walk away if something doesn't feel right about a home purchase. I really wish I did but it's too late now.

~ General Recommendations (All Consoles) For Anyone Who Can't Decide ~
First off, I won't recommend big or famous games like Final Fantasy or Persona, this is more for lesser know, hidden gems, or just games where it's hard to find someone talking about them.
[Valkyria Chronicles]
[Valkyria Chronicles 4]
This one is really hard to explain through words alone, but just in case, the VC series is a World War 2 military setting story, where you act as the lead of a squad and take mission to drive back the enemy. The story is drama heavy and the gameplay is tactical turn-based, but it's mixed with real-time third person shooter.
You can also make your own army by recruiting different types of solders, training them and upgrading their gear. From rifles to tanks, this is a game you have to experience to understand.
[Wild Arms 1 & 2]
Great classics, and are now sold for dirt cheap, though even their full price is also a steal. If you're looking for great stories, and really interesting characters, combined with truly great puzzles, then don't miss on these 2 games. They started an entire series, and are classics for a reason.
[Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth: Complete Edition]
2 full games in 1. If you're a fan of the series then this is a must play, it dives into the lore more than a lot of the previous games, and also has one of the biggest Digimon rosters till to day.
Even if you're not into the Digimon series, if you're looking for your next fix of Capture/Evolve/Fusion -> Grind -> Capture/Evolve/Fusion -> Grind while you listen to your favorite podcast/music, then no need to wait anymore, with hours upon hours you can easily spend just grinding and completing the game's various content from side-quests, rare monsters, arena, and even tamer team fights. The gameplay is simple, which is a great way to keep your brain off, yet it still has challenge battles now and then to make sure you're doing your job grinding and raising your Digimons.
[ASTLIBRA Revision]
If you are still itching for side-scroller action JRPGs with a good loot system and a good story and world that you can sink your teeth into, then look no further. A game that was 14 years in development and an extra year to work on this remastered version, was more than worth it. The action is meaty and satisfying, the loot is great with each item having the potential of changing your fighting style, and just so much content to explore and have fun with.
Then you add to that fantastic art work by Shigatake of Vanillaware, he worked on games like Odin Sphere, GrimGrimoire, Muramasa: The Demon Blade and others. Then you finally throw in a huge amazing soundtrack, and when I say huge I mean HUGE. With all of that together you have a really great title that any action JRPG fan shouldn't miss.
[Atelier Ryza]
Ryza can be considered a big turning point for the series, mainly because it threw out a lot of old gameplay and story elements that were trademarks of the Atelier series. For starters, the entire sub-series is about Ryza and her friends, instead of the usual way where each title in the sub-series had a different main character. Then as you have noticed, it doesn't use time limits, nor does it have multiple endings. Then add the fact that the battle system switched from turn-based like it was in the entire series until now, to now being Active Time Battle system. Finally, while the Alchemy mechanics always changed between sub-series and games, Ryza has the biggest change in crafting mechanics since Atelier Shallie.
All of these changes, plus being a game with almost no fan-service and the one with good graphics, animations, and so many new different methods being added in how you gather resources, makes it a great starting point for someone who wants to dip their toe into the series and be see if it's something they might like.
[Utawarerumono] series
This fantastic visual novel style tactical game is one hell of a ride from start to end. If you're looking for a fantasy JRPG with amazing world building and an epic of story that expands three whole games, there is no reason to not get this whole series. Drama, Comedy, Mystery, Action, Horror, Fan-service, Betrayal, Revenge, Adventure, etc... This is the whole package here when it comes to story, world, and characters. Just don't expect it to be heavy on gameplay and combat.
Prelude to the Fallen is the first game story-wise, the 2nd game is Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception and after that is Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth.
[Rune Factory 4 Special]
Don't even think too long about it, a fantastic game and a great port too, so much you play it easily with mouse and keyboard or controller.
The characters are fun and lovable, the story is interesting, and most of all, the loop is very varied and enjoyable. So much to do:
- Farming
- Cooking
- Monster Collection and Raising
- Dating and Marriage
- Dungeon Crawling
- Blacksmithing and a deep weapon upgrading system
- Fishing
- Festivals
- Town Management
- House decorating
- Resource gathering
- Monster Mounts
- Mastering different weapon styles
- Mastering Magic
And so much more. Not to mention that everything you do has a level and so no matter what you spend the day doing, you'll always be leveling something and getting better.
Do you want a game where you can cook horrible burnt food, then take said food and use it as a weapon to beat bosses, and even have said bosses then till your farm and water your crops while you're out riding cows and fighting giant chickens the same time you're on date with your favorite NPC ? Then yea, RF4 got you covered. The only thing you'll miss, is sleep while playing this gem.
As always, please do add your own recommendations, and let me know if there is mistake or if something was missing, and have a nice day.

2023.06.05 14:51 Previous-Parfait-906 Train and crystals
I was in a train station with an ex-lover. We had to switch trains but we were too late and my ex didn’t want to wait so he jumped on to a train that was leaving. I followed and we had to go on top of the train. After we got on top, the tunnel changed into a big underground crystal mine with floating crystals, with beautiful glowing colors. I could see turquoise the most, but there was also gold/pink/etc. A fight then broke out but I woke up before the fight happened.

2023.06.05 14:50 Forgetmenot0612 How early is TOO early to start preparing for baby?
This is my third pregnancy (2 prior losses) but first pregnancy with my boyfriend. We just found out it’s a boy and we’re over the moon- we picked out a name, we told our close family and friends… and we bought and built a dresser because we have so many hand me downs and supplies from when I was preparing to foster infants that we just had to get them put away and out of totes. Then we found the ikea chair he wanted that’s originally $350 for $30, looking brand new.. and now we’re picking paint colors. I’m 8 weeks today. It feels crazy to be preparing this hard but I want to be overly prepared vs not prepared enough, and I feel like it’s okay to be excited and celebrate. We’re going to be crushed if something happens regardless of what we prepared or not.. I guess I’m looking for others to tell me they are as excited as we are and trying to prepare early too!

2023.06.05 14:49 kiplet1 [City of Roses] no. 27.1: the Blue room – Bottles & Cartons & Tubs & Boxes
Patreon previous Table of Contents tends to crumble The room is blue, and dark, and very quiet. At the foot of the pallet mounded with white pillows under the angled ceilings he’s sitting, and dark hair eaves his shoulders, a great beard brushes his chest, his back and upper arms are hatched with more hair curling with the curves of sagging muscle, down to his thick round waist. His legs are folded tailor-fashion, bare feet tucked under bare thighs, hands held loosely open on his knees, his cock a-jut, tip of it darkly swollen, glistening, there before his thick-furred paunch. Mustache wide in a simple smile beneath eyes simply, gently closed, there between his beard, his hair, serenely still, so very quiet. Explosions rip the television screen, chatter of gunfire, Angels comin thick an fast Sarge, and the guy on the beanbag leans back and forth, thumbs and fingers frantically working the controller in his lap. The view on the screen wheels, jerks, dials and meters in the corners whirling, flashing, galloping along in a tight-packed herd of wildly colored centaurs, garish pastel zebra stripes, neon leopard spots, Appaloosa rainbows, all wrapped in khaki saddlebags, human torsos draped in bandoliers, big guns in their outsized hands, Get to cover! Under the cable! Your six, your six! and another explosion. “Shit!” he yelps, tap-tapping, laughing, “Shit!” Over across the room a woman’s headed toward a grand dark staircase, and the other man in the room looks away from the screen, starts after her, “Ellen,” he says, dodging around a dark wood column, “hey, Ellen, wait up.” She stops, a couple steps up, looks down at him. “How long, exactly,” he says, “is he gonna be staying here,” and he points, up the stairs, past her. She shrugs. More explosions, more gunfire, the guy on the beanbag whoops. “Long as he needs,” she says. Her black hair spiky short, the inky lace of tattoos edging the collar of her running shirt. “It’s just,” he says, at the foot of the stairs, tall and heavyset, cardigan blue. “The occasional overnight guest is one thing, but – ” “My room, my friend, my business,” she says. “You won’t even know he’s there, Dan, unless you go out of your way.” The loudest explosion yet, and “Shit!” yells the guy on the beanbag. The television’s gone red. She’s turning to climb the stairs. “Ellen!” says the man in the blue cardigan, starting up, “Ellen, he was, what the hell was he doing, wearing my shirt?” She looks down at him again, and maybe shrugs. “Looks better on him,” she says, and up she goes, up another flight, up under the very peak of the house. At the end of a cramped hall a door, cut at an angle the top to fit the slope of the roof. The door to that blue room opens, and she steps in, a shadow dressed in black, flashes of silver piping, “Phil?” she says. “You’re, ah, oh.” Stretching out a foot to prod the black huddle of a discarded suit, there on the floor by the door. Splash of yellow within, and blue and white, a rumpled aloha shirt. “Hungry?” she says. “I was gonna go for phở.” Still in the doorway, hand on the jamb. “Did you want some?” Creak of a floorboard as she steps back, out into the hall. “I’ll bring some back,” she says. “You’re welcome to half the bed, if you need it.” The door swings shut. The latch clicks, quietly. • Rattle of glass, yellow bin in his hands, blue letters along the side say Portland Recycles! Clang and clink he sets it down, chock full of bottles, brown glass and green, clear, four or five of them wine bottles long and slender, the rest soda bottles, beer. Squatting he pulls out a wide-mouthed jar, the label mostly torn away, and holds it up in the light. “Fuck,” he says, setting it down. Smacks it, topples it, sends it rolling a hollow rumble away down the linoleum clunk against the wall. “Fuck,” he says, again, rattle and clink, and “shit,” and then “damn.” Over by the floor-length curtains a brown and green sleeping bag, someone in it, rolling over, a voice, sleep-muzzled, “What.” “Bits,” he says, “of pickle,” waving a hand, and dark hair swings about the shoulders of his warm-up jacket, blue and grey. “So rinse it?” The sleeping bag hunches and flops open, whoever’s in it sitting up, a woman, wrapped in a puffy pink and orange parka. “Why should I,” he’s saying, “why couldn’t they,” and he shoves the bin, a chiming crash. “We’ll just have to get some. Bread-and-butter pickles. Trader Joe’s.” “You want to,” she says, and she’s pinching the bridge of her nose, “you want to buy a new jar of pickles, and, what, eat them all, or throw them out, and the rinse the jar, because you don’t want to rinse the jar?” “The label on that one,” he says, and then “dammit! It’s the perfect size.” Stomping the length of the room to snatch up the jar, and then through the door. Clomp and clatter, a squawking wrench, the rush of water. She sighs, crawls out of the sleeping bag, long yellow hair a-dangle from the parka’s fur-lined hood. She slips on a couple of red canvas shoes and heads off carefully through the garbage strewn across the floor, more bottles, empty, all sizes and colors, glass and plastic, quart-sized cartons and half-gallon cartons and little pints and half-pints, cereal boxes and pasta boxes stacked and wrapped together with blue masking tape and black friction tape, towering masts of emptied rolls of plastic wrap and toilet paper, paper towels, plastic tubs tall and squatly broad, whole ranks of them that say Nancy’s in letters of various hues, all laid out in a relatively tidy grid, narrow paths between and through them all where she places her feet, aglets of her undone laces clacking against the floor, until she reaches a wide cleared curl of an aisle of sorts, edges marked with long strips of more blue tape. He’s at the sink, fiercely scrubbing the jar, “Basic civic duty,” he’s saying, “think of other people, come on.” Slamming the jar on the counter by a dozen or more empty jars and bottles, scrubbed clean, gleaming. Yanking the faucet to shut off the water. “Luke,” she’s saying, “Luke,” and he looks up to see her there, hands stuffed in the pockets of her parka. “The hell you wearing that for,” he says, scooping wet shreds of label from the sink. “It’s freezing,” she says. “You know why it’s cold,” he says, dropping the mess plop in a swollen garbage bag that yawns there on the floor. “So I’m wearing this.” “You look ridiculous.” He shakes the slop off his hand. “There’s still a smell,” she says. He’s headed past her, out of the kitchen. “Luke,” she says, following, “Luke. We’re gonna need – ” “Don’t,” he says, kneeling by an untidy patch of garbage. “We’re gonna need money,” she says. “Rent. The fifth. It’s next week.” “We’re always,” says Luke, “gonna need,” plucking up a cereal box, “so get a job,” he says, grabbing another, a clownishly colored bird on the front of it. “I had a job,” she says. “Jessie,” he says, “don’t, just,” and he looks up, a shrug. “Your sister’s gonna be here soon. Right? So maybe she’ll have something for you. For us.” “My,” says Jessie, frowning. “Luke, now is not the – ” “Don’t,” he says, leaning over to place one of the boxes right next to a yellow plastic jug. https://preview.redd.it/87pqqbf7j64b1.png?width=35&format=png&auto=webp&s=1b5613905bd8048ca8edd473abee4b8febe0df55 previous Table of Contents Patreon submitted by kiplet1 to redditserials [link] [comments]

2023.06.05 14:39 Confident-Cupcake164 Are there libertarians that focus on right incentive rather than individual freedom?
For example, I like free market because it gives proper incentives to be productive.
Should employer be able to discriminate employee? I say yes. Why? Because employer has proper incentive to run his business well. Those woke activists do not. Also because I know capitalists do not usually discriminate. Usually there's stupid law requiring employer to pay women maternity leaves, for example, and obviously a rational employer will hire women but prevented by anti discrimination laws.
My opinion about private cities are similar. To me it doesn't matter that private cities have government. Private cities have proper incentive to treat tax payer nicely like businesses treating their customers well. In, normal democracy, politicians have huge incentive to give welfare because most people are financially irresponsible.
Besides, greatest enemies of freedom is not greed. All businessmen are greedy and in their greed they give us choices. I do not see how owners of private cities will be any different. Greatest enemies of freedom is envy. Some poor trans with single mother envy of happiness of others so insist that everyone need to pay attention to them. Some financially irresponsible people envy toward the rich. Some old women are bitter than young beautiful 18 years old women simply get rich guys by choosing someone rich while the old women has to work and earn less than men.
In fact, most violation of individual freedom, things like welfare, will be gone when government is run for profit.
Welfare and public schools, for example, will be gone in private cities. Why would owners of a city encourage poor citizen to have children if there are plenty of rich guys that can afford their own children and pay taxes and still want to live there?
Competition among governments, as usual will mostly keep government in check.
If we go through "consent" road, libertarians are divided. Some think staying in a city means consenting, another disagree. Herman Hoppe think that private cities are legitimate.
Most ancap think private cities are legitimate though.
https://www.reddit.com/Anarcho_Capitalism/comments/140gfr2/can_private_cities_be_at_least_an_improvement/ https://www.reddit.com/Anarcho_Capitalism/comments/13wm3dv/can_we_have_private_cities_in_ancap_societies/ Also, my idea can be tested. Most microstates and private cities are rich and prosperous. I in particular like Prospera corporation with it's 5% income tax and no capital gain taxes and only 1% land taxes.
To me the problem with private microstates and private cities are they are too few and those few are too prosperous already. They obviously also limit immigration. Why wouldn't they? What's the point of allowing commies and parasites come through open border? Makes far more sense to ask money from too many people wanting to come in.
To me, while I prefer low tax, low crime, and small governments, what's also important is that government has proper incentive to keep tax low, crime low, and keep itself small. In private cities governments has that incentive.
We don't need to get philosophical about whether government of private cities or the owners are legitimate or not. We need only to know that the government of private cities have proper incentive to keep tax payers happy. That's it. If people vote to turn voters into shareholders of their cities, I am in. If voters' interests are similar with shareholders' interests, then normal market mechanism will lead to the right path.
There are many issue why I think proper incentive can give much better lithmus test of whether something is good for libertarians or not.
Should parents or the state that decide whether 15-17 years old children can go through trans treatment, watch porn, etc. Here parents have proper incentive to choose well for their children. Government? No.
I think amount of child support should be decided by agreement. Why? Parents care about their children. Perhaps mom would prefer $4k a month from Drake than $1k a month from someone poorer? Government doesn't have incentive to care about rich kids' children. If anything, those commies want every kids to be born poor so commies parties like Democrat party win.
https://www.papermag.com/drake-hot-sauce-condom-2656397302.html I also don't care too much about eminem domain. If I am going to buy land or a house, the possibility that my land may be seized at fair market value will not discourage me from investing by much. Of course the compensation has to be fair and include value of the houses, etc.
Should women be allowed to sell sex? Again. It's not just about freedom. It's about incentive. The smart beautiful sugar baby has proper incentive to choose what's best for herself.
The ugly feminists do not care about who they call "the elite". In fact, in one feminist forum, a feminazi said that prostitution is indeed beneficial for "the elite". It's pretty obvious to me that feminists are concerned about interests of ugly women while rich men are willing to pay for the pretty.
So basically, to me, what's important is incentive. It often coincide with libertarian's idea of individual freedom. Sometimes it doesn't. I don't mind, for example, if government, being run for profit, correct externalities. If government is run for profit, then it has incentives to correct externalities.
And in businesses, what truly matter is incentive anyway, not morality. If I can still return product, then sellers have incentive to take care of me.

2023.06.05 14:37 purplesquire Mixed race parents- Help! Daughter keeps identifying people by race :
My husband is of Indian and East African descent, and I am of Eastern European descent. Our daughter (5) is mixed race. We live in Toronto in a very diverse neighborhood.
My daughter is always bringing up race and skin color, and it has been steadily increasing in the last few months. We talk about race at home under the context that everyone is beautiful and unique, and every body should be celebrated.
Yesterday, we were at the park and she introduced herself to another little girl. Then she said “I am light brown, my mommy is red (I am sunburnt atm), and you and your mommy are regular brown”. This obviously immediately turned the other parent off and then left before I could apologize.
How would you address this? I’m looking for guidance and advice as I am in unchartered territory and want to hear any recommendations you may have to parent appropriately.

2023.06.05 14:35 mimi1899 AITA for Calling Out Art Theft
Pretty sure ITA…I’ve gotten myself into an irreparable family drama situation. My husband has cousin who is, essentially, a shitheel human. We recently found out that he’s been living entirely off of the kindness of an elderly aunt for the past 15 years. He hasn’t worked a job for that entire time. The aunt recently lost a battle with cancer. Family is frustrated with him, as he’s been hitting up other family for money, saying he doesn’t know what he’s going to do now that his aunt is gone and won’t be paying his rent. This guys always rubbed me the wrong way. A couple years ago I caught him posting someone else’s art, passing it off as his own. I knew I’d seen the image before. So I google searched and sure enough, the image was stolen. Since then he’s opened an Etsy shop where he sells T-shirt’s, stickers, decals and “paintings”- sharpie drawings on foam core. For the record, he’s only had about 25 sales or so, so not enough to live on. Almost all, if not all, of the imagery is stolen art. I myself am an artist so this really set me off. I’ve been so tempted to call him out but hadn’t because I didn’t want to upset my husband. They were close growing up, but my husband almost feels sorry for him now, seeing what kind of person he’s turned out to be. So, yesterday. We’re at the aunt’s house picking out things we wanted before they do an estate sale. My husband already claimed a painting that he’d loved since he was a child. As we’re putting things aside, the cousin goes up to my husbands mother and said “they’re taking the picture? I wanted that, Chris said I could have it”. He didn’t come up to my husband all. Just claimed he had dibs and took it out to his truck. This understandably upset my husband who’s not at all confrontational. He was bothered but didn’t say or do anything. I was livid! It was the straw that broke the camel’s back for me. Later yesterday I took to fb and made a post that folks who steal art and claim it as their own are trash. It felt good to post it. Husband even chimed in. Today, both of us still salty over what happened (him taking advantage of the aunt being the most angering). I decided to look at his fb, as he’s always posting and promoting his “art”. I saw a post of another image I’d seen before. So, I commented a screenshot of the original work saying “you may want to credit the original artist, her name is…and the piece is called...” Someone else had commented on how beautiful the pic was and I replied to that comment with the real artist’s name and a link to her Tumblr. After that, understandably, cousin unfriended my husband and I. My husband is now sad that the relationship with his cousin has been cut off. As frustrated as he was with him, he didn’t want to lose touch completely. And now here I am, the incredibly angry asshole who thinks their seeking justice for unknown artists, inserting myself in family drama by calling out his art theft. It felt great in the moment but now I feel guilty.
