2023.06.06 15:43 jlayestas Is there any way for proposal to be able to be presented and submitted to the county, city or state for debate?
I forgot which country it is but there a website they have where people are able to create proposals and if it gets enough support it must be debated in a committee and if passed then its gets put on the floor for general debate, is there something like that in Tampa or maybe Florida?

2023.06.06 15:33 RementoMori 35 [M4F] New York - Seeking Genuine and Long Term Connection
INTRODUCTION
Hello everyone and thanks for visiting my post! My name is John and I am a litigation attorney from the great state of New York. Don't assume that I mean New York City either. There is a whole wide world of New York out there that doesn't revolve around the five boroughs!
I have my life together and am at a point where I want to share it with someone special!
HOBBIES AND SPECIAL SKILLS
I have a wide variety of hobbies and I am always trying to learn new things and hear about the passions that other people have. I enjoy reading, writing, bike riding, hiking, visiting new places and road trips to name a few!
I am also caring, a great listener, a hopeless romantic and can reach things on high shelves for you.
PHYSICAL APPEARANCE
I am not immune or ignorant to the fact that physical attraction is an important facet of any potential relationship. For me, I am 6'5, blonde hair, blue eyes and on the huskier [though height/weight proportionate] side of things. I am happy to exchange verification pictures so we can both prove we aren't Nigerian princes and princesses.
I have heard all the height comments before. So, before you ask, the air is better up here, I did play basketball and you have most definitely nearly decapitated me with your umbrella during a heavy rain storm.
WHAT AM I LOOKING FOR?
I am aware this is Reddit and so my expectations are low, but I am still optimistic! Ideally, I am looking for a long-term relationship. If it ends up that I make some new friends? Great! But, my focus is on establishing something for the long haul. I would ask that you at least be in the EST time zone or be willing or heading to New York in the near future!
NEXT STEPS
So, you've read this far [I hope]. You want to message me, but you don't know what to say? Tell me about yourself! Tell me the last book you read, movie you watched. Tell me your favorite hobby. Tell me something funny that happened to you this week. Tell me how you're even feeling at the moment. I'm sure we will find some common ground and potentially the start of something truly special.
It also wouldn't hurt to send a picture of yourself in the opening message and I will do the same. At the very least, a physical description of yourself would be great!
ANTI-GHOSTING POLICY
I would be remiss if I didn't mention my patent pending anti-ghosting policy. Look, I understand real life can get in the way of fun Reddit messaging. I know the anonymity of the keyboard can make it feel like you're not even talking to another person. But, we are both people. If, for whatever reason, you're just not feeling it, just say so! We can part ways amicably and wish each other well.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
Sincerely, John

2023.06.06 15:26 ThePurcupine Remote Jobs and Locality Pay
I appear to be high in the running for a remote job which I sought out because I needed a job that could follow me if I need to move (also who am I kidding, the Great Panini made me intolerant of other people and I want to move out to the country without a huge commute to an office where I'll begrudgingly sit hoping people don't breathe near me - I mean, the audacity of other people to exist in the first place, amirite).
ANYway, I verified with the interviewer that it was, in fact, a true remote job with no HQ and that I could move States later on if need be. My question is, how does locality pay work in that situation? Even the outlying counties around the city I want to move to have a 5% higher locality pay than where I currently am. Would my pay increase if I move there a year after accepting the job or nah?
I mean, it's not a dealbreaker since the difference in property taxes is almost 5% anyway (yeah the taxes in my current city are THAT high), but it'd be nice to know in advance.

2023.06.06 15:20 Summer-is-coming___ I can’t believe I’m in a situation like this
| Hello everyone! I am having a lot of issues with my current landlord and don’t know what to do, So I’ve decided to post here. Here is the list of issues: •Landlords want access to the house at all times. They want to enter anytime they want without prior notice. They don’t live in the house. They’ve been doing that until I moved in and said something about it. • There are cameras everywhere. 3 outdoor cameras, 1 in the garage, 1 in the living room, and another one in the hallway where all the girls enter their bedrooms and bathrooms (total 6 cameras that we know of). When I checked out the place before moving in, I didn’t notice the cameras and the landlord didn’t mention anything about them. I found out about the cameras week after I moved in when my roommate mentioned something about it. They didn’t get consent for the camera (I live in California which is a two-party consent state) Also, looks like the cameras record audio as well. So, we haven’t been able to have a conversation comfortably in our own home. • Landlords are always watching us thru the cameras. They say it’s for “security”, but they’re always watching us for no good reason. One time, my roommate left the house at 7 am and she received a text saying “Good morning! Drive safe” from the landlord guy immediately after she left the house. • There is a second kitchen in the garage that my roommate uses. There is also a car owned by the landlord that he doesn’t use parked in the same garage. The garage is really dirty. We believe they don’t have a permit for the kitchen in the garage. • All the tenants are girls under the age of 25. Currently, there is 3 girls living in the house (3bedroom 2bath). The Landlord guy calls and texts the girls late at night and asks them out for dinner and tells them how he is divorcing. • When the landlord lady came over, I told her that I was not comfortable with them coming in without prior notice. She started screaming at me and told me to get out if I don’t like their “rules”. • A few days after that she gave me and my roommate a notice to vacate. I’ve never raised my voice at her. Those are just the tip of the iceberg. There are a lot more issues too. We’re so stressed about the whole situation, feeling paranoid, losing sleep, and even bought a camera detector because we feel like we’re being watched even in our bedrooms and bathrooms. Since me and one of my roommates received a notice to vacate, we’re moving out soon anyway. My roommate has been living here for 7 months and I’ve been here for almost 2 months now. My roommate was supposed to live here until August and the landlords changed their mind all of a sudden. I’ve spent a lot to relocate here. Now I have to spend a lot again to find a new place and relocate (you know how expensive California can be) I feel so helpless. Any legal advice? Anybody knows a good tenants right attorney in OC? Ps: My roommate received this text in the picture a few months ago. This text makes us believe that there might be hidden cameras in our bedrooms as well. Any advice is appreciated 🥲 submitted by Summer-is-coming___ to TenantUnion [link] [comments] |
2023.06.06 15:20 Chad_Wife Told I do not qualify for council housing registry
Edit - I got the times of year wrong. My tenancy means I must leave before September / within the next 56 days. I believed that to be Autumn but now realise it’s clearly still summer I am about to turn 25 and have been in “supported accommodation” under the council since I turned 19 - without it I would be homeless. The accommodation is provided by my local council & managed by a group that works with young people who are at risk of homelessness.
I “age out” this autumn late July. I have significant health issues. I have three auto immune diseases including crohns and AS. My crohns makes me exhausted, my AS makes life painful and has a 60-70% chance of causing spinal fusion which will further reduce my mobility.
I received the standard daily living PIP component for my disabilities.
I applied for the council housing registry around a year ago. I had first had an application with them “opened” 5 years ago when I entered supported accommodation- but I didn’t upload any evidence so I was not given a banding/priority level or any right to bid.
This last year I have added all of my information - PIP, current housing information, 5 years back information, care summaries from my doctors - everything
but a (private) assessment of how my living state impacts my health as this wasn’t required.
I have lived in this city for 10+ years, all of my family live here, the specialists I see for my diseases (who are renowned) are here. I believe this is sufficient for the “local connections” portion of my assessment.
I have 0 savings, my income is low enough that I receive UC. I cannot afford rent and have been on housing benefits since turning 19.
I was recently assessed and told I didn’t qualify for the housing registry.
The email sent to me says :
You have not satisfied the qualifying person criteria as: - You do not qualify on grounds of being an applicant with no recognised housing need
The reason for the decision is: - You have a one bedroom need and your currently have a room at (Housing Support), (My Address) for your sole use.
- Although we recognise you have medical circumstances, your medical assessment does not meet the criteria to award Band B or A, no award will be made under the Allocations Policy agreed by (My County) Policy Resources and Growth Committee. There must be an identified need to move in order to justify a priority.
As you have stated that you will need to leave your room at (My Address) on (
Autumn Late July) 2023, please contact our Housing Advice team on (Phone Number) (option 1) or by email at (email address) who will be able to support and advise you on the housing options available to you.
——— (End of Email) ———
I have already appealed this choice but I wondered if anyone here could help me understand it (in context of my living and health situations).
Are they correct, that I do not qualify to join the registry?
Or does this seem like an error, given (to everyone else I’ve spoken to) I have a clear housing need?
Thank you for any help here.

2023.06.06 15:03 hail2theredhead Is LR hell or heaven?
I have operated out of LR my whole waking life (was out further from town when I was a babe)... and I am convinced it is a black hole/hell portal kind of like in that Buffy episode. I have friends that agree!
What does Reddit think?
I think it has something to do with the fact that we are in a blue county in a red state. We are also one of the overall poorest states in America. So LR feels so optimistic and cool and even...progressive. We have a cool alt scene. Sometimes I feel like I'm in Mr. Rogers's neighborhood. Esp.when I lived in Quapaw QuarteSoma (despite the people living in the gov. mansion)
But eventually... things get wobbly... poverty and trauma demons come out and chain ya here. 👿

2023.06.06 14:43 avarciousRutabega99 I thought flavored vapes were illegal in New Jersey since the 2020 ban.
I’m in Morris county and theres like 6 stores within 10 minutes of my house selling disposable vapes in every flavor you can possibly imagine, as well as menthol Juul pods. I dont really want anyone to get in trouble but wtf man. Not to mention places selling the other thing without a license. I’d be lying if I said I never purchased any of these products but, its just weird that no ones talking about it. The state may even gets their sales tax or excise tax on it in some cases. This state is so corrupt, its just weird that no ones talking about these vape shops openly selling something that’s supposed to be illegal in this state. Thoughts?

2023.06.06 14:41 Intel81994 Crypto Ruined My Career/Life - Why I Became ANTI Crypto
Crypto user since 2014, not a noob. Started working in crypto in 2021 professionally - as in PIVOTED career to industry.
Worked for a major financial publishing firm (publicly traded, won't name) covering crypto for investment research.
Got most of my savings hacked via a crazy computer intrusion, Feds got involved, couldn't help, mental health went to complete shit, VERY dark days, almost 6 figures stolen.
Found out it was a vulnerability in a certain wallet that led to a data breach of my computer (not phishing like usual butters get hacked), but the amount stolen is apparently too small for attorneys to even take the case or try to prove.
To this day, no updates on the funds from the Feds.
Had heavy depression and even more fucked up at times. As you can imagine, if someone like me who is sophisticated can get hacked and completely lose it all with ZERO recourse, this ruined my entire idea of the industry and thereby fucked my career up mentally as I could hardly work without having PTSD.
I was in hell, had to sell my car to survive and pay rent. Fuck crypto.
Then, 2022 happened. Luckily I was too fucked up to buy any crypto since 2021 so I stayed out of the market with any buys. The people in my firm kept shilling crypto and buying themselves. Lol
Voyager went belly up, lost more there that I had stored. They lied about FDIC insurance. Luckily avoided FTX save for $500 dollars worth. Now saw the Atomic wallet hack this weekend... sad but obvious it was bound to happen. Many more such hacks coming.
Butters don't realize that with how fast AI and computing is advancing, there is NO guarantee that even hardware wallets won't get hacked one day. Sure, forensics for hacks get better, but hackers now are state actors and they will also advance.
Butters love to preach about self custody but that's not realistic for anyone in the real world as we know.
To prevent my hack I would literally have had to have a compsci PhD from Stanford and then cybersecurity training. What the fuck?
And these clowns want mass adoption and grandma to put her 401k into self custody crypto? There is a reason we use custodians, with armed guards, and insurance, and regulation.
Then, lost my job in the industry 3 months ago due to the market being shit and rate hikes. Saw it coming. But I didn't realize that being affiliated with crypto must be some sort of black mark on my resume?
Tech industry feels bad for me, finance industry thinks it's a cute joke. Worse than being affiliated with Lehman Brothers or working in porn industry.
No one thinks that there is a serious career risk/political risk/person risk of working in crypto industry. It's clear where things are heading. DOJ charges against Binance next. I interviewed with Binance last year when I was applying around. Also with Coinbase.
Can’t take the risk now. Unfortunately looks like industry US stateside has contracted sharply due to macro, layoffs likely to get worse, regulatory pressures - have to pivot industries in this economic environment.
Glad it’s getting regulated out and I plan to actively encourage regulators to ban it and speak out against it due to the lives it ruins.
Firmly believe crypto is mostly useless now except for crimes and actually it’s a major security risk for everyone / national security. Imagine if people across the country get mass hacked what that does for society.
Crypto has caused more harm than it's ever helped anyone. Speculation is net negative for society.
I don't know what to do to get my funds back since it's been over 1.5 yrs, this vulnerability was covered in the press so I could try to ask the wallet company to compensate my 75K + the 15K I spent in therapy from being so fucked up over it.
Applying to MBA programs, deadlines are 3 months away, I have no job atm, savings dwindling, have to pivot industries to survive, if I somehow land a crypto role now I would probably get laid off again because rates are staying higher for longer and I believe more dominoes will continue to fall for a while, and I can't afford another layoff anytime soon, due to the hack.
Honestly at this point you have to be mentally ill to work in crypto or keep buying it. UST's yielding almost 6%, corporate bonds almost 12%, not to mention the capital gains in bonds one can get when rates drop.... why would you keep buying crypto? Lol
Oh not to mention your bonds won't get hacked. And if they do, you're insured.
FUCK CRYPTO. I'll start by writing to my congressmen about my experience and hope they can legislate further against this shitstain of an industry.
I don't care what I have to do, if it's get the press to talk about my hack, or get CFPB to act, or DOJ. I don't give a shit.
I went to a top public US uni, am extremely hard working and sharp, and there is no reason I should be in this position in my late 20s due to this retarded industry full of grifters and criminals.
P.s. To NFT grifters or influencers making shitcoins to rug people: AI (decr. cost of compute, labor) + advancing forensics/ KYC + immutable public ledger aka blockchain will make it possible to retroactively charge criminals for billions of years. Most low IQ move ever. Better to raise $ off the blockchain and flee to Dubai.
Ironically, to commit crypto crime today, you have to be so bearish on tech/ the future to think you won't ever get caught. Definition of spazzed out short term thinking TikTok brain.

2023.06.06 13:53 Texaus376 Closed! Feeling grand sans piano
Hey all,
Wanted to give an update. The sellers were able to get the furnishing (indeed a piano—sorry) out over the weekend! We were unable to negotiate on any of our lesser concerns, including some other debris on the property. Still, bringing them up may have served the purpose of conveying they at least needed to do the minimum (apparently not a given) as well as letting us know we couldn’t have done more to protect our interests. But seeing as they were just that—lesser concerns—we closed at long last!
It’s been a wild ride. The best (unsolicited) advice I can give is get a realtor you trust and who is good at their job. Ours made all the difference in the world at every step of the way. On the house hunt she helped us see through “eye candy“ and poor renovations, educated us on the pros and cons of the towns in the new state we were moving to, and didn’t flinch at writing offers for a total of 10 properties. All the way through closing she was holding the other side to the contract to the best of her ability and advocating for us when we felt our attorney was falling down on the job.
Thank you all for the advice and information throughout this debacle and beyond. Time to make it ours!

This is why Gerald Boyle sought to admit the 'confession' as evidence through bypassing the exclusionary rule discussed in the Motion Hearing just prior to the actual trial. The Fourth Amendment is enforced by the Exclusionary Rule. That is, it serves to suppress evidence (such as the confession) obtained following an illegal act such as the breach of rights here. If you want to find out more about the Exclusionary Rule and the Fourth Amendment in general, this is a useful link: Fourth Amendment -- Search and Seizure of the US Constitution :: US Constitution Annotated :: Justia Hence Gerald Boyle quoted the precedent case Brown v Illinois in seeking to attenuate the confession from the illegal search. A recap on the Legal definition of attenuation - a lessening of the amount, force, or magnitude of something- a weakening of the connection between an illegal police procedure and the evidence obtained by it such that the evidence is admissible at trial as an exception to the exclusionary rule The Brown v Illinois case brought about 3 factors which must be considered in order to successfully consider attenuation: https://preview.redd.it/xaxtvg6qqd4b1.png?width=1172&format=png&auto=webp&s=8b326266933c6656ad366bb7209f46733cc1443e However, listen carefully to Boyle at the Motion Hearing, and you will hear that he even sought to avoid considering the above 3 factors, by stating that according to the slip opinion (a draft court decision) that he has (which states that the Miranda warning and waiver of constitutional rights in that example, favoured attenuation of the confession from the illegal search), Boyle is of the opinion that it would be 'frivolous' to try and attempt considering the 3 factors. A contradiction to Boyle's own statement where he correctly states that the 3 factors must be considered, since the Miranda warning alone does not cause the confession to be sufficiently attenuated from the illegal action (the police search). And no-one challenges this (as challenging was Boyle's job as the defence attorney).. So in a nutshell, any legal obstacles to prevent the 'trial' from proceeding as it did, were overcome by Gerald Boyle's legal manoeuvres. submitted by Emotional-Brief-1775 to TheDahmerCase [link] [comments] |
