I am currently 30 and living in the UK! Have considerable amount of savings between me and my wife!
We are thinking of buying a new house and rent currently but are not very sure if we should buy a house as we are not sure if we are attached to the current city we are living in.
People who bought houses late in their life - above 30 - what has your experience been like?
Are there any advantages or disadvantages of being late on the property ladder?

I want to ensure this phone (just got it!!, S23+) keeps its battery as long as possible. I have the protect battery option on since start up which limits to 85% charge.
If we charge overnight it stops with the protect battery... should we do this and leave on charger or is this bad?
Does it hurt the battery life to top it off several times a day, I.e. when I plug in Andriod Auto in my truck?

Hello everyone. I would like to get your input. My company just announced that it will be switching their policy to FTO from PTO.
I am in a position at my company where due to my work load, I am rarely make time to take time off. Right now I have about 300 hours of unused PTO (12 hours a month). I was informed that they will pay out all existing PTO in the future.
However I accrue a lot of unused time off where now I am essentially going to lose a couple of thousands of dollars a year due to this policy change and even more in the future because of my annual raise ranging from 2 to 5 percent.
My question is, does it make sense to ask for a raise to offset my loss of acured PTO? Also since this would be a one time raise which would might not account for future wages/PTO rates. If you agree should I factor in my future wage increases? Another option I thought about was asking for stock annual stock options to offset my loss in PTO.
I would love to get some of your feedback.

My question is if the SEC is accusing Binance US and Coinbase of selling unregistered securities of which many of the cryptos I own are now considered securities, and if I sell those cryptocurrencies on those platforms at a loss, can I still tax loss harvest this?

My family are immigrants to America from from Portugal. Grandma and Grandparents still take Latin language mass, believing it to be the only legit form of mass.......
Now my Avos are pretthy nationalistic, to the point they have been accused of white supremacy by modern woke crowds. Even discounting how seemingly patriotic they are about being Portugeuse, they hold many old views like homosexuality being a great evil, using condom condemns to hell, and so many "rightwing beliefs"..............
Yet despite that they will treat statue of nonwhite Jesus used by Brazillians with utmost sacredness, they had prayed to a Lady of Guadalupe statue without hesitation, and despite their bragging about Portuguese pride they treat everybody black, Vietnamese, and so on with complete respect. Even allowing my sister to marry a MidEastern person who attends an Eastern Catholic Church and treating one of my cousins who's dark skinned and half Guatemalan with utmost equality as a family member.
However as I said earlier they only attend Latin mass church. They genuinely believe that Language was the one sole thing that kept the whole Church united and Vatican 2 Open a permanent damage to the Church by creating more ethnic strife bby allowing the use of different langauges. That Latin as the sacred liturgy was what keep people from all different churches and races using a variety of art traditions from the stereotypical desert Hispanic design of architectural building to the Lady of La Vang who looks very Vietnamese.............. That the Church as united through Latin and the language effectively shut people from beinging controversial issues to mass such as illegal immigration from non-English countries and white supremacy and ethnic segregation in France and other nations where French is an official language.
So they believe despite John Paul II's benevolent intentions, officially allowing Vernacula Mass has destroyed Church unity and is a big reason why stuff like BLM and Latinos refusing to learn English are getting hacked into the Church.........
That said I know Eastern Orthodoxy on the fsurface seems dicided by ethnicity...... Yet any devoute Orthodox Christian shares the same views as my grandparents where despite being proud of their ethnicity, they'd ultimately believe we are all human and despite nationality, race, and ethnicity were are all equal under the banner of one church.... And that this is pretty much the stancce of the Orthodox council that all humans within the CHurch are ultimately all human beings equal under the eyes of God...........
SO it makes me curious. Oothodox Christianity from what I can read fromt he beginning had always been a supporter of the Vernacular and the Church believes local language liturgy reflects just how much mankind is equal in God's eyes and respectful of all the different cultures under Eastern Orthodoxy. I even seen some theologians in Orthodoxy point out to the Tower of Babel as proof that God does not want a united language in the united Churchh but wants a variety of language used in mass across the entire Orthodoxy.
Yet Eastern Orthodoxy is very rigid in art traditions. Where as you have Churches in Peru of Mary wearing Incan clothes and even the Biblical people being represented as different races in a single Church (like a church in Juarez having a white Jesus Christ yet all Mary statues are the nonwhite Lady of Guadalupe) as well as apparitions of Mary appearing as a black woman or an infant Jesus appearing as person from Prague..............
Eatern Orthodoxy demands all MAry icons to appear the same, all Jesus crucifixes with similar appearances, etc. Not only is the Orthodox Church's position is permanent about the racial appearance of Jesus in Church art, they even pretty much only allow one specific style of art. 2D art. Almost all entirely icon with a few glass stains and perhaps a sculpted stone work or two. But all are completely 2 Dimensional and created to show Jesus, Mary, and the Biblical figures looking like a Jewish Palestinians or Hebrew. Unlike Catholicism where you have paintings, marble statues, colored figurrines, and a whole hell of variety of art styles ina single church in addition to the diversification of Biblical figures to represent local population's cultures and ethnic demographs.
But somehow despite the reigid art approach, Eastern Orthodoxy is the Church that learned to appreciate vernacular mass centuries early on in Christian history while Catholicism was so harsh about a single language in mass and otehr sacred rites.. And one thats already been dead for centuries by the time of the Crusades, Latin......
So I ask why? Esp since so many people wrongly assume Eastern Orthodoxy is a racist denomination full of segregation or at least orthodoxy is full of ethnic strie in Churches. I seen people assume that they cannot go to a Serbian Orthodox Church if they are not Serbian because they think its a completely different denomination from Ukraine and based on bigotry whether you are Serbian or not sums up what people assume Orthodox Churches are like.
Despite what my grandparents believe about Latin being encessary for the Church's unity, I myself find it bizarre it took so long for local language to be used in mass considering how diverse Catholic art tradition is about different cultures and how Catholicism has a tradition of different nationalisies and ethnic groups attending a single parish even in very racist places like Australia.
Why did these trends happen?

Been together over a decade and we had alot of imagination and fantasy. Still have a great sex life but wife is kinda wondering where her imagination and fantasy has gone. Hey yall. So idek if I'm allowed to post here since I'm neither American nor a military wife (gf) but honestly idk where else to post so imma just try.
I (f22) and my bf (m26) have been dating now for a little over a year now and we've had our ups and downs mainly because I didn't know how the American Military works and him being in the Air force it means that he's very often away.
I foolishly thought that it'll be like a normal relationship since he's stationed in a EU country but I quickly realised how wrong I was and had a hard time grasping how much time active service actually consumes.
Even tho he lives on base in my EU homecountry he gets a lot of missions to other places (last ones I've known abt were Sudan and Turkey as an example) and we get rarely time for each other. We always try to see each other when he's "home" but given his work we're lucky if we can get in once or twice a month.
We also chat weekly with each other on WhatsApp to keep each other updated on little things when he's on base. But we dont talk at all when hes on a mission and that can sometimes last up to 1 month. We do tell each other openly that we miss each other a lot but sometimes it just doesn't cut it.
I am a college student with a job, an internship, a lot friends who are supportive of my relationship and I have a couple of hobbies that force me to socialise, but sometimes I still lie awake at 2AM just crying myself to sleep because I miss him so much and because I see how much my friends can do stuff with their bf abd i just can't. Ofc I'm happy for them and I know in those cases too that they also got their own problems but sometimes I just wish I could have him as close to me as a "normal couple" would.
Interpersonally I'm not lacking anything with him. He's a great upfront guy and I love him. He's really intelligent and honestly the more I talk to him the more I know that I could imagine to leave my EU country to start a life with him in the US once he finishes his service. I also can see him as the father of my children since our values align with everything especially when it comes to rasing kids and how we view life.
Again He's an amazing person. But the distance not only physically but sometimes emotionally (when he's going through it he shuts down) is killing me. Do you guys have any tips on how to survive this? I only got 1 1/2 yrs left and then he's done with his service.

The basic setting is post-apocalyptic, where humans are living in fear of the demons that hunt them down, day in and day out. These human-like creatures had been hiding amongst them for centuries, and eventually became more confident over time, and after a savage uprising are controlling a large majority of the world, hunting down mankind in a bid to rid the Earth of them for good. There are humans that try to fight, but none make much difference when the demons always seem to be one step ahead. So far there seems to be no hope of salvation for mankind, with no indication that there is only the worst out there to fear rather than anything that could be worth saving. I have a more detailed breakdown of the world I have created for the setting if you're interested in the topic.
We will be playing a pair of best friends that are struggling to survive after making it so far during the incredibly difficult times, but have heard of the possibility of salvation not too far away from them. There will be themes of angst, fluff, unspoken feelings, peril and adventure, with a lot more thrown in that doesn't fit into those kinds of categories.

It's time replace our 15-yo plotter (designjet 4000ps) and I've narrowed it down to two options: HP Designjet T1600 and HP Designjet Z6.
I'm leaning toward the Z6 because it comes with a vertical trimmer, which makes it easy for us to print various sizes. The Z6 is marketed as being specifically for GIS, although I don't know what makes it special in that regard. It's a Postscript printer, which I also don't fully understand, but hey it's there if needed.
My only potential concern is that it has 4GB RAM and 128GB virtual memory, whereas the T1600 has 128GB of built-in RAM. Idk if there are any performance differences with virtual memory.
Does anybody have experience with the Z6 or have additional knowledge about how to make this choice?
It's for a university GIS lab, and our usage is pretty low volume. The main way we use it is to occasionally print "36 wide conference posters with map graphics, and our instructors print 24" maps for classes.

Hi all, longtime lurker but I (34M) created a throwaway as my wife (30F) is a redditor and knows my handle. I've been having some issues with her not contributing to the relationship for the entirety of our relationship. When we met she was in grad school and I picked up a lot of the slack, but now I decided to go back for my MS and things have been hard. But in my mind, they've always been hard. You told me that when your mom asked you if you were happy, that you couldn't be happier. I am not on the same page. I don't want this to be an airing of grievances but more a cry for help. I am not doing well, I am struggling, I am not happy. I also feel…lost, alone, isolated. Anytime we almost talk about something serious, you put up your guard and sigh deeply and establish that you don't want to talk about it. That hurts and it stops us from solving problems and it makes me feel unheard and unappreciated.
I've been feeling like this for a very long time but I'm too afraid to say anything because I feel like the bad guy whenever any issue is brought up. Even when you agree, you become so self-deprecating that our energy is spent on making you feel better rather than solving the issue at hand. There is never a good time because there is always something on the horizon, or if it is a good time, any change comes at the cost of us having a fight and me feeling like the villain. I can't keep living like this.

Your health: I'm happy that you made your first Dr appt but I'm so upset it took a huge scary wakeup call for it to happen. And even then I had to step in and get a sooner appointment because you were sitting on an appt 3 months out with no plans to look further. For someone in your field to treat yourself the way you do, I have to ask, why is it so hard to take care of yourself? What is the underlying issue behind not wanting to schedule any appointments? And look, we have lived together for nearly 3 years now, and in that tjme you would not make appointments unless I forced it through a lot of stress and fighting. I have been asking you to make appointments for months and not just for you, for me too, so you could help the household. And nothing. Sure, you had excuses every now and then like exams or trips, but you don't now, and even when you did, making appointments is so low-intensity that it frustrated me to watch you revise someone's homework, make a travel list for a friend of a friend, or do anything else instead of this. How are they more important than your health? Than my health? When we have kids we will need to handle so much more than what we have now, but it feels like you're at your limit of stress on a regular basis with just a 40hwk job.
I cannot sleep next to you for the rest of my life with your sleep apnea. We've identified possible causes but it feels like solving any of them is just not a priority to you. We have been together for 6 years so at this point, more aggressive choices need to be made. It isn't fair to me that I have to sleep on the couch or just have a bad night's sleep and be tired all the time. You don't want to get cpap, fine. No doctor's appointments scheduled, oh well. We've talked about weight loss, dieting, exercise, but because it's such a touchy subject I can't say or do much other than encourage you for fear of being a jerk husband. So I will continue to sleep on the couch until something changes.

I would like couples counseling, but I also want you to see someone separately. I will too, I know I could use help with anxiety/depression. We have a lot of dysfunction which is likely caused by our own personal mental health issues so if we need medicine or therapy, we should work on that asap because this is not sustainable. Every day I can't discuss something that upsets me with you or every thing that I feel like I can't bring up out of fear of being perceived as an abuser just drives me into a deeper hole. All I can do is stew and catalog all the issues I am having and it just makes me sad and angry and helpless and crazy and lonely and stuck.

Hi! I’m 31f, 70kg from the UK with chronic ULQ pain shortly after eating (pains are sporadic, unable to find common trigger) I have undergone abdominal US which was normal. All blood work, including thyroid, allergies and lipase were normal.
I had an endoscopy which they said everything was fine however my dr report (which is also a referral for CT) says the following: “2cm fixed hiatus hernia- within normal limits. Irregular Z-line with a competent lower oesophageal sphincter. CLO test was negative. On examination her abdomen is mildly tender generally.”
I have 2 questions: 1. what does any of that mean to an untrained person and would any of that contribute to my ULQ pain? 2. they are sending me for an abdominal and pelvic CT with contrast, what will that look at/for?
I have cut out some of the fluff in between sentances quoted, just stating about labs and ultrasound being normal but if needed for further context i can add it in.

EDIT: forgot to mention last week i had an elevated HR of 175, all tests were normal and was discharged awaiting echo and 24hr heart monitor. HR is usually over 100 with mild activity (i mean just walking generally, or up a short flight of stairs) resting can be anything from 85-105. Not sure if it has any relevance to what is medically happening with the ULQ pain but just thought to add it.

I want to buy my brother a car for college but I am not titling it to his name for reasons (reasons being there's a stipulation and I can take it back at anytime). When you buy a car, I understand that you need to provide proof of insurance of the new car, can I buy insurance in my name for this purpose and then cancel it and have him buy his own insurance for the car or how does this work? Or if I'm buying the car I need to have an insurance policy for me on this car + he has to pay for his own insurance as well?
