Selling house vs renting it out
2023.06.06 21:15 Throwaway420694203 Selling house vs renting it out
Hey all.
Bought a home for 337k in 2021. 4.1% interest rate at 5% down. 30 year term.
Relator believes we can sell for 390k. Lived here only over a year so would be subject to gains tax.
My question is regarding renting it out due to the low interest rate. I could see myself moving back into this house years down the road while I rent for myself elsewhere.
My monthly mortgage is $1900 and I make 5.1k a month after taxes & deductions. The property tax in my area is super low and cost approx 1400 a year. The house I would rent for myself would be between 2.1k-2.6k. My house is brand new, just had everything inspected and everything is in excellent shape. The only thing I'm worried about is the period when there would be no tenant here. I'd use a property management agency. Still calculating what I'd rent this house out for. I live in a touristy area 1 mile from the beach, and similar houses in my area are rented out from 2.5-3k a month.
My question is even if I don't make a profit monthly due to the rent money being put towards my mortgage, and the additonal $ going towards the property management company & other fees that come with renting it out, would it still be a smart move? I feel like I'd be throwing away a decent interest rate, and this way if I do decide to sell approx 5 years from now and not move back, I could make more off the sale.
Big risk is no tenant which would = 4,500 monthly mortgage & rent expense assuming the house I rent is on the higher end. I have 25k in savings, and yes during these periods I could hold off on investments into 401k, HSA & crypto, that would bring about 800 more in to help me float by.
Keep going back and forth on what's smartest. Don't really have anyone to ask due to the relator obviously being biased towards selling.

2023.06.06 21:11 username150763 AITA for not wanting to go tubing?
Not sure how to do this but I need to preface this.
A few weeks ago me(23M) and my wife(23F) got into a serious/emotional discussion. One of the issues she brought up was my drinking. She said I don’t know how to control it, I’m too old to be overdoing it, and I have a problem. I’ve come to realize that and I’ve been good and clean since. Onto the next bit.
My wife and I have been invited to go tubing with old friends of ours this weekend. I said no because I have those friends on SC. All they do on the river is smoke and drink. I don’t want to be around that because I can’t just…not drink. Especially if it’s around. I’ve been to similar events with the intentions of having 1 or 2 drinks max but I usually end up drunk. So with that being said, I’d rather stay at home and avoid all the temptations (most likely peer pressure too).
Now my wife is mad/upset. She’s been throwing hella shade and I’m for sure coming home to the silent treatment. She also stopped texting me. I know she wants to go. Summer pretty much started here and this would be a cool way to kick it off. This might also seem unfair to her because how convenient is this? I decide to be sober and “fun” is knocking on our door. I said she could go solo but she doesn’t like to go anywhere without me. I feel bad but I think maintaining my sobriety is my top priority right now.
In short, I said no to going tubing. Now my wife is hella mad and I’m certainly getting the silent treatment when I get home. AITA?

2023.06.06 20:51 wereworm5555 Can a friend put down a deposit in mu name when buying out of state?
Hello sales experts!
I am looking to buy a used car out of state and then drive it to my home state.
My friend went in to the dealership and test drove the car, its in a expected condition and runs well too. We have made them an offer and waiting to hear back.
If they accept the offer i would want the deposit to be made in my name, i am not sure if this can be done since i am not present there.
My friend can make the deposit considering its refundable once i fly out he can get refunded and i can continue with the deal but i am not sure if the dealer will allow this.
Additionally, the dealer doesn’t know that its going to be an out of state purchase yet, when should i let them know about this?
Looking for some insights on this and anything that helps. Thank you :)

Nature of Predators is created by
u/SpacePaladin15, whom was willing to let his horde of fans write fanfiction.
I'd like to give my thanks to
u/SavingsSyllabub7788, the creator of Death of a Monster, and one of my favorite birbs. for giving me an odd bit of inspiration, and the discord at large for shaping this story with theories and random discussions. This one shot didn't even conceptually exist last week.
Also referenced
u/Acceptable_Egg5560's Nature of a Giant in this one.
Tell me how you feel about this story. I'm content with where it ends, but others' insight always helps me figure out my flaws.
.*~*.
Memory Transcription Subject: Barkim, forsaken krakotl veteran.
Date: December 20, 2136 .~*~.
I came before Captain Sovlin and Captain Kalsim. I remember watching Kalsim train. I doubt he remembers me. My career made me into a captain pretty fast. Faster than most. I had repelled five Arxur raids while in control of the bridge. My crew were brave enough to trust me and my insane methods. Letting a colony world fall was unacceptable in my eyes. We were the vigilant, always ready to warp in ten minutes or less. The federation as whole didn't seem to understand how much value a few extra minutes bought for the settlers meant. Even if I had to order a retreat, tens of thousands would survive because they managed to find a place to weather the raid while the Arxur were distracted.
I was a hero.
Rumbling laughter and howls make my slow trod falter, and I look though a window into the recreational room. There's several humans at a table holding scraps of paper and barking in a jovial mood. They're not masked, and my feathers ruffle looking at them. A flicker of movement on the table catches my eye, and I finally spot the Dossur in their midst, almost completely hidden in a bunker of coins.
A Dossur beating an entire group of pack predators by himself. I never would've believed it, but I'm still not surprised it would be Alvin of all people. That little runt was the only reason I've managed to hold onto my sanity for so long. He was braver than I, and he brought me back even when I was at my worst, again and again and again. He was the first to run to our predatory saviors back at the facility. And he was the last to leave, running back into the fighting and leading a human doctor to me to stop the stray bullet from taking me into Inatala's grace.
I left him to his card game, faintly overhearing one of the humans complain about being a several years running Texas Holdem champion. Alvin's response sounded very much like him, asking if he wanted to bet the actual crown next to add to his growing wealth.
Eventually I found myself in front of a door. Inside was a small room. One wall contained a wooden desk carved with enough craftsmanship to rival old Krakotl wood carvers. The desk was cluttered with cylinders and writing apparatuses, and a primitive writing board resting on the wall above it displayed several print outs of various people. Relatives. Descendants. People that had enough empathy in them to take back the few lucky souls that still had people they could trust. The computer underneath it was not active, but if it where I'd imagine there would be encrypted communication logs trying to reconnect with those few love ones. Plans to reunite them. Promises to protect them under this faction's umbrella.
It was strange, that this group of humans wasn't desired by the rest of their kind. They take more direct, brutal action than their leaders, but they act to save lives. On the opposite wall was a locker. Inside were several firearms of Human make, and multiple emergency atmospheric suits. Many were for human use, but some were Federation standard. A pair of boots and engineering equipment rested on the floor before it, scuffed and well worn. There's a strange logo of an orange planet on the back of a jacket hanging from a hook nearby, and an even stranger article of cloth called an 'arm band.' The arm band has a large tree sewn into it, flanked by two prey animals and a river. The human I'm visiting was part of that arm band group, named after a tree of all things.
You couldn't get me to harbor a guess as to why they'd name themselves after a tree.
The far wall was rather simple. A faded green paint coat, covered in various anti-predator posters. One was of a human in a blue space suit, the visor open and revealing an endless pit of teeth. Another depicting a feral, over-proportioned human salivating over a dressed, screaming krakotl on a dinner plate. A third poster depicted some venlil collared and chained in place, stuck in some multi-colored wrapping that went up its legs halfway.
There was a mirror beside the posters, and I winced at the terrible shape I was in. I'd abused myself too much after I was freed. Even after stopping, I was still recovering. Looking past the mirror, there is a large banner of a green Terran letter. A few paper photos are plastered around it of smiling humans in strange places, and my eye always lingers over those photos despite the many times I've seen them. Earth looked lovely. I wished Kalsim had called off his mission.
Feeling like an intruder, I turned my attention to the last part of the wall. A set of black out curtains were flush with it, concealing a human roost built into the structure itself. If I was lucky, she would be there.
"Hope?"
Come on, you're better than a chicken. Carefully, I lifted the curtain. "Hope?"
There she was. The one human I wasn't bothered by on this station. I can hear the music playing now that the curtain is out of the way, and the thick visor over her eyes tells me she's watching a video or simulation of some kind. I hesitate, watching her in her own world. What fur she does have is short and remarkably dense, and she has such a unique coloration that I would swear she was one of a kind if she hadn't mentioned having family. A tan complexion, painted over by splotches and stripes of white and violets that humans can't see with their own eyes. Her face is relaxed, mouth slightly open in wonder.
The human that helped staunch my bleeding, and gently broke the news to me of
everything that had happened while I was locked up. The same one that kept me from pulling myself apart immediately after, and tried to find a way to keep me busy as my whole world went up in flames. A stern, capable person that could make decisions under pressure and wanted to save lives. While not a leader, I could see it in her. She had mettle.
She was completely exposed. Had I been the old me and not the one that woke up in a PD cell after a Sillis conference, I might've followed Kalsim's path. A talon in the right spot, and humans die fast.
"Hope?" Even raising my voice, she didn't hear me right in front of her. "Hope!"
As much as I respected her, coming this far in my state was exhausting. I, being a former fleet captain, hero, and outstanding Federation officer, decidedly acted like a child in that moment and pecked her.
"AAAAAAAH!"
"
AIIIIIIIIIEEEEE"
I let out the most undignified shriek in my life and fell over backwards, landing on my tail feathers and sending a jolt up my spine. I forgot that since Hope was human, by extension she could be loud. Really, really, unfathomably loud.
There was a blur of limbs and Hope was sitting up, visor wielded as a bludgeon. She made eye contact with me, and I realized all my remaining feathers had poofed up.
"
Blu!" She scolded, face curling in frustration. "What in the matter is-
Blu?! You're not in your room?"
Shock, this time. I felt some shame in how low my standards had fallen, and smoothed down my feathers properly. My poor heart was already recovering and I stood, puffing out my chest.
"I... I wanted to go for a walk. See what you humans could do with a dated station like this."
"You're in my room."
"That appears to be the case." I pushed a ball of dust across the floor with a talon and regarded it absently, turning my head and keeping an eye on Hope. "It needs cleaning."
With speed I was anticipating, she hurled a pillow at me. I caught the assault and rerouted it, catching her in the face. She leaned back and laughed, a noise that calmed what was left of my quaking heart as I hopped forward. She offered a hand that I accepted, and she helped pull me onto the edge of the bed.
"You offered to show me your skies." I began, feeling uncertain. "Is that possible?"
"Yeah," she said. "Here-"
Grace put a hand on my chest and pushed down. A profound sense of horror washed over me as my back hit the soft bedding.
She wouldn't- no. She can't- is it even- when have I last- Inatala please- I realized with a start that Hope leaned past me, grabbing her pad. She plugged an odd attachment into it and fastened it to the wall by her head, and flopped over beside me. My immediate terror faded into embarrassment, and my face warmed at my own stupidity as she pulled the curtain closed. It became dark, and I felt her shift slightly until the ceiling above us started to slowly glow. Her pad booted up and began to project an image up there, and I felt my initial problems fade as a blue sky opened up before us.
"Oh wow." I breathed, realizing it was a video as a plane flew overhead. I forgot myself for a moment, looking up into an alien sky as clouds blew by at a lazy pace. The jet stream slowly lost its uniformity and stretched out, facing away as other clouds replaced it. I could hear wind and alien birds chirping, and for a long moment I was there. I was really there.
Storm clouds, massive weather fronts, all began drifting by. There was a dull rumble of thunder. I started as a bird flew very close overhead.
"What was that?"
"Woodpecker. Some can get pretty big back home. Not as big as you, Blu."
"Is it really this serene? Where was this taken?"
"My backyard. There was a massive hill out back. I used to lay there for hours when I was younger. Lived at the edge of a village. The only noise back there was the odd combustion engine or farming drone. Sometimes someone firing off a gun or listening to music loudly."
"You lived in the countryside? You're a pilot!"
Hope chuckled softly. "Surprise! There's some pretty sharp people that don't live in the cities, Blu. Especially us humans. My father could repair any farm equipment you threw at him going back a hundred years. Of course, I also have an uncle that thinks the Queen of England doesn't exist, so it probably levels out." She finished, sighing and reaching up. She swiped her finger across the ceiling and suddenly the skies changed.
They were orange now. More clouds. I felt a familiar pang in my chest thinking of a Nishtal sunset, but I kept quiet as the skies gradually changed. I was surprised to see such a vibrant shade of orange, then a sharp streak of violet bleed into it. There was red as well. A lot of red.
"Why red?"
"Oh, that. Massive forest fire in Canada. That's a country above mine. The smoke changed the colors for a little while. It made for a nice view."
That it did. I got lost in the footage, and started losing track of time. Only the occasional creak of the bedding kept me from forgetting where I really was. Hope seemed content watching the skies, and it dawned on me how close I was to her.
I'm acclimating well. Maybe I'll be like Alvin in no time. When the skies slowly turned to night I was amazed at the stars that came out. Constellations I was unfamiliar with, patterns and swirls of light that could never be seen from a Federation city. I heard Hope inhale and reach out, changing the scene before it could linger anymore. "How about a time lapse. I've got some good ones."
"I don't know what that is."
"Really? Someone sets up a camera in a nice spot and records hours or days of footage. They take everything they've documented and then speed it up to a couple minutes." Hope starts a new video. I'm taken back by it, how a cloud bank flows around a mountain pass like water. It looks like a stream, where the clouds shift with each wind current change, flowing back and forth as minutes are turned into seconds.
It's stunning. Hope switches to another one, and another. I'm struck dumb with wonder, baffled at how not one other creature out of the hundreds of species thought to do anything similar over the course of the Federation. Massive mountain tops, where humans blur through trails like plasma. Prairies with storm cells moving in, lighting and rain sweeping through and giving it new light as the terrain is rapidly drenched. A large road where thousands of human vehicles streak by and leave brief paint trails in their wake.
"Thank you, Hope."
She nods, an odd gesture of acknowledgement, before changing the video back to a more slow paced skyline. After several minutes of silence, I feel a weight forming in my chest. Slowly, my wonder begins to crumble.
"How many confidants were you able to find? For the others?"
Hope shifted to look at me, turning her head and making my feathers tingle slightly at how close her face was to me. She looked back up at the sky. "Seven."
"There were forty that wanted to leave as quickly as they could. What happens to them?"
"We're letting them go. Even if they don't want anything to do with predators, they're going to find out avoiding my species is pretty hard. We're going to give them access to the network anyways, in case they want our help down the road."
"And the rest of us?"
"I'm helping the ones that want to go back to a somewhat normal life find that. There's several planets they can go to, and countless colonies. They'll be placed close to the support network in case there's trouble and they need to come back, or need financial assistance or help integrating."
Hope had mentioned something about 'shelters being a safe place' for us break outs, but had never elaborated on that.
"And what about the others that want to stay?" I noticed Hope scowl at the skies, her face forlorn.
"The ones that want to stay and help us fight are welcome to. It's not all dangerous- being part of the network isn't as risky. Helping the ones that wanted to go back to living, or finding others that got lost or fell through the cracks. It... it feels wrong asking anyone we rescued to fight and die for us. We don't want clouded judgement and people thinking they owe us that. But, there are a lot wanting to join our ranks in more aggressive operations. We're making them combat ready, teaching them how we wage wars so that they don't turn into their overseers."
I lay there for a long moment, staring at the open skies above us. "What about me?" I asked quietly.
"You're not excluded from those choices, Blu."
"You read my file. You know who I was. What I would've done if I didn't end up in that place. You'd really just let me go?"
"If you wanted to go, then yes."
The simple way in which she states it confused me. Like such a choice wouldn't cause issues or risks.
"But, we've been thinking about a better choice for you."
Oh? "The Mazics are turning into the next Paltan Combine. Their newest influx of refugees were the released Krakotl."
My chest tightens. Nishtal is no more, razed to the bedrock and dead. We had been abandoned by our neighbors, our home slaughtered well before our true nature was revealed. And in the same year, the Federation deploys over forty thousand ships to take back a world that left behind their rule. Billions of loyal citizens captured and destined for a bloody fate were worth less than billions that seceded peacefully.
And then the humans brokered a deal with the Arxur and saved their souls. This was yet another time they did the impossible.
"We were thinking they could use a strong anchor to roost against. Someone that they might remember. A leader that they can trust."
I turned my head to directly face Hope, but she was still looking at the skies.
"I... they hate you humans."
"They do."
"I can't try and lead them, and sell out anyone that still doesn't believe in the UN's cause. I can't betray them." I chirped, dread worming into my gut.
"We wouldn't expect you too. We don't want you too. Blu-" Hope turned her gaze on me, her voice sincere. "We want them to find the right path. They deserve peace and security. They don't deserve to live in fear and rot with hatred. We don't... my group does not want yours to suffer over what your government did, even if the masses supported it at the time. We think you can lead them to a better future, where this hell can have a chance to heal and fade."
She looked back up at the artificial sky above us. "You don't even have to talk to us again if you choose this. If you do your best to ensure your species can coexist with mine, that would be more than we could ever hope to see happen."
"You think that's possible? That I could get that far? It seems so far away."
Hope bared her teeth in a smile. "You're more than capable. You love your people with everything you have, Blu. They'll see that. They'll believe in you. When you stand firm for your people, they'll follow you, too. We'll help where we can- peacefully. This can happen, I know it."
I found myself looking up at Earth's sky once again, apprehensive above this new burden. There was no way I would turn this down. If the Wolverines thought it was possible, then it was possible. A future where my people were both free in body and spirit was one I would fight for until my weary body gave out.
"How do we start?"

2023.06.06 20:50 SawScar112013 Facebook SaleScam? Am I Being Paranoid?
I and a bunch of other people were tagged in a Facebook post this morning from the janitor at my son’s school selling about 50 different things. Furniture, lawnmowers, recreational vehicles etc. My mom wanted two of the bunk beds for the grandkids and a refrigerator. I messaged him and he gave me a price and I gave them my mom’s phone number to work out the details. He said he wanted a deposit to hold the items until 5 when he got home from work.
My mom doesn’t do PayPal, so she asked me to cover it and she’d pay me back. He gave me an address and asked me to send it friends and family, then send him a screen shot as proof. That sort of rang alarm bells. When I typed his email address into PayPal, his name didn’t pop up as associated with it. I told him my husband was in town and could drop off cash. He gave me an address and google street view put it at an apartment complex that didn’t match the post picture. He then said to send it paypal, and send a screenshot immediately. At that point I said my parents wanted to see it in person and they’d take their chance it was still for sale. He said he wouldn’t allow them to see the furniture without a deposit, so I backed out fully and didn’t send anything. It just rang too many alarm bells. Was I just being paranoid or was his account taken over?

2023.06.06 20:44 ProfessionalSwimmer6 I know this is petty, but I'm so overly annoyed (and jealous) of all the friends and family who have homes that have appreciated 2x-3x times as a result of the pandemic.
They didn't buy or move because of the pandemic, they already lived in the suburbs pre-2019, they just happened to the lucky enough to live in suburbs that have seen record appreciation. They act like they're financial geniuses when all they did was get extremely lucky as a result of global event. I don't live in one of those areas so my equity is unchanged, and I'll work the rest of my life to try to accumulate the amount of money they're all sitting on in home equity, which they can borrow against or realize through a sale. And please don't try to convince me that money isn't real. Their housing prices aren't going down at any time and have held even as interest rates have gone up, if anything they're poised to have even more money once interest rates come down and housing prices go up.
I should be happy for them, and I am partly, but when they all get together and talk about their new life options and things they're planning to do, like tapping the equity to buy another property or increasing they're home value further by expanding, it's exhausting. I will spend the next 20 years working my ass off and yet, they'll always be so far ahead becomes of dumb fucking luck, and a global pandemic.

2023.06.06 20:41 Ambassador-Hairy Terragen Excerptqq awash
"You understand the point of this trial?"
Grand Hierodule of the Theningan Commonality and his species representative in the Confederate Senate, Seven Sacred Rivers, stood on three legs above the representing the Terragen Sphere had brought. Surrounding him on raised desks, perches, water tanks and other containment units were representatives of the hundred different races of the entire Confederacy, all in varying states of disapproval or outright anger.
A Corvian and Par stood on the same perch, while a human and chim sat at a desk appropriate for their sizes. However, above them stood the largest sophont in the room. A Spermatisape, its exoskeletal-harness a thing of industrial strength in holding its multi-ton weight on four large mechanical legs directly beneath it. Around it a field of water flowed over its skin, while its many manipulator arms were all curled beneath its prodigious jaws.
The human spoke first, his graying reddish facial fur neatly cropped to give him fur on his cheek and upper lip that connected, but none underneath his chin. A bald head with small spots of brown contrasted oddly to Seven Sacred Rivers senses, graying fur with balding Spotty skin was associated with disease to his people, reminiscent to livestock brights they had faced in the ages before modernized medicine. "Yes. We understand that this is a farce. We are not subject to Confederate law, nor are you subject to ours." The human spoke calmly, reaching for a complimentary glass of water and draining it before setting it back down, a drone quickly detaching from a containment blister on the ceiling to refill the glass, and await on stand by.
"Moreover, while under Confederate law the Grykl Agglomeration may have performed a legal operation against illegal settlers, we had no knowledge that they even had a settlement claim on that planet. And that is STILL a poor excuse for orbital bombardment of a civilian colony." The Grykl Agglomeration's empty seat in the chambers spoke of the true reasoning for this trial aside from the matter of illegal settlements.
"That is only a portion of it Admiral Wallace. You proceeded to bombard that same planet until it was nothing but a molten husk with anti-matter bombs." A floating holoscreen appeared and portrayed footage of the aforementioned planets destruction, the once blue seas and varying colors of plant life gone. Antimatter bombs reducing the surface to a molten hell with the ignition of volcanism all over the planet.
"We did attempt diplomacy after this Senator Rivers, it can be shown on record that after this the Agglomeration officially declared war without your knowledge." The chim representative spoke up, a furred hand raised and pointed at the
The holoscreen once again changed, this time to varied video captures and pictures showing troops of multiple speeches fighting across planetary surfaces, stellar naval contingents fighting over planets or in barren space. A particularly noteworthy image that stayed up was the image of Grykl Hive Soldiers running from large sonic weapon equipped quadrupedal mechanical apparatuses being operated by Orcans. One of the Hive Soldiers were caught forever mid-still being blown apart by the offensive weaponry.
"This… was unconscionable. There are standards, regulations, RULES to warfare! The Terragen Sphere committed directly twenty two different types of warcrime repeatedly over the course of your war with the Agglomeration. A war we only discovered because of a sudden influx of refugees fleeing the "Hellworlders"."
Finally the views creepy changes to an image of deep purple and green homeworld of the Grykl, Tykrliki.
"This… this has never happened in the history of the Confederacy."
The Par representing gave a raucous caw before speaking clearly, in the Hierodules native language, instead of using a gifted translator as the others did. It was unnerving, hearing the squeaks, clicks and whines the avian performed nearly perfectly. Seven Sacred Rivers greatly wished the alien had chosen to use a translator rather than this unsettling form of communication.
"They had slaughtered an innocent colony from our own kinds homeworld Senator. Children, mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters. Families, those seeking a new life. What they received was firey damnation."
The Par jumped down to the desk and took a drink from the cup that human had, before flying back up to her perch.
"The ancestors do not forget. They do not forgive unless justice is wrought. We did what you are about to see, despite pressure from others within the Sphere that it was enough to simply win the war."
The video played, and a world was broken in an instant so fast as to be nearly instant, reduced to three broken cinders.
"An… FTL bomb. You took, a ship's reactor core, and fired it at a planet directly from the edge of the solar system." The Hierodule grit his grinding oral plates, a singular twelve fingered manipulator reaching and gripping onto his desks edge, looking at them intently with four brilliant emerald eyes.
"You destroyed two habitable worlds, one of which was the homeworld of a member race that has been a Confederacy state for over [eight hundred years]!"
The Spermatisape spoke finally, a deep voice that echoed and vibrated the chamber with its native tongue, but translated into something almost musical in its tone. "Yes. However, even your laws state that while the destruction of a habitable world is punishable by reparations to member states for associated biological resource destruction, we are just that. We are a separate entity from you. Yes the Grykls treaties with you prevents internecine conflict, they chose the conflict with us, and because we were not members, did not have any sort of legality to drag others into a war over a settlement claim."
The colossal alien unfurled and raised a multi-tooled arm forwards.
"That occurred because of the debt incurred. They both attacked us, and declared war for no other reason than we were nearby and they did not want us as neighbors, the legitimacy of that may be recognized by your governments," the aliens multitool formed into a rough holo-projector that showed an alien world of green lands and blue oceans, with four moons around it, "but we are NOT a Confederacy member, nor are we a protectorate or associate state."
The projector broadcast the images of raining fleets of Grykl Hive Ships attacking colonies and resource transportation fleets. Several Grykl fleets may have been destroyed in the initial conflict that started it all, but even so, they had an Expanse of nearly a hundred stars and ancient resource stockpiles that had made this war an extremely tough nut for even the Hellworlders.
"That… is secondary to the true point of this assembly, delegates of the Terragen Sphere."
The speaker had been the member of the oldest species within the Confederacy, not the ancient Founders, but instead one of their associate states from that period, the last of those ancient empires. The Yol. They were seated on a small perch, not an avian race, but instead a small bipedal brachiator. They were covered in short fuzzy fur, with two tails that possessed small numerous tendrils that functioned as fingers. The lack of arms were noticeable, but complimented a small bulbous four eyed head on a long serpent like neck.
The Yol's delegate was their head of state, The Taehua Emperor, and the highest ranking member in the entirety of the Confederacy, having been the last of the Founding races from nearly seventy million standard Terran years. "The Terragen Sphere went to war. This is acceptable, even admirable that you would go and seek retribution for such a blatant slight." The entire assembly gave murmurs of surprise and even outrage, how could he agree?
"The usage of biological weaponry, your "uplifts", in war is punishable to nearly the fullest extent of our law, regardless of your association status." The Emperor's high pitched and crackling voice sounded over their collective earbuds across the assembly rotunda, bringing silence from the delegates. The Terragens stiffened.
"The last time this article was broken was nearly seventy million cycles ago, not long after the Great Assembly. The war with the Destroyers that slaughtered half the Founders and a dozen other species across the galaxy." Images of great ships that seemed to be formed of bone and metal, arranged into articulate shapes similar to that of great aquatic beasts. There were great carrier ships that seemed to resemble snakes strung through turtles, with powerful technological armaments all along their necks and backs, while their mechanical maws fired balls of superheated plasma.
More and more ship types, literal avian fighter craft, massive reptilian tanks, more and more that flashed across the screen until finally both the Par and the Corvian delegates started screeching at a specific image that came. Admiral Wallace's mouth was agape, his eyes wide in recognition of something.
The Senate many delegates were confused, the image they had stopped on was a graphic thay showed the geography of that races home planet, as well as the race themselves.
An upright ave-reptilian species, though they were horizontal in their gait, with a long tail thay held balance. They possessed blue and grey feather coloration, with yellow scales in the few places their dermis was exposed. In fact, looking at it, the creature somewhat resembled the Par and Corvian delegates, as if it were convergent evolution.
However, the attention of the council was drawn to the fervent ramblings of both as they suddenly flew up to and began examining the image intently, raucous screeching and caws coming from them, translated into the many races ears, "THE ANCESTORS! THEY CRY FOR JUSTICE NOW! THE ANCIENT ONES, THE DYNASTY WAS ENDED BY THEM!"
Admiral Wallace went pale as he looked at his associates, both the Chim and Spermatisape were agog just as he was as the realization he had come to. The Par and Corvians had come to develop an ancestor worship culture, based on the existence of their most ancient ancestors and relatives. The dinosaurs. And any slight to the ancestors and the "Dynasty of Kings", was met with retribution.
It was one of the many societal differences between Humanity and their children, most seemed to be diverging farther and farther from any human route and were becoming their own separate minds and people. And in this case, the mind was alien to a human.
Wallace was broken from his trance by the Grand Hierodule, "Exactly what are they speaking of Admiral?"
Wallace sighed, and pulled a holo-projector from his waist coat and put it on the desk, a representation of the planet Earth popped up into the assembled faces.
Silence came over them all. It is different now, obviously plate tectonics shift over time. There was no doubt however. This… this was the same planet as the Destroyers.
The Taehua Emperor looked in shock at what he saw, they had bombarded that world with asteroids and ended the last remnant populations of the Destroyers. It was known that the world fell in the Terragen Sphere, but it would never have supported enough life after to produce another sapient species!
The humans had never revealed the location of their homeworld, something that was odd at the time of their discovery, but now it took on an almost sinister meaning.
"We come to an impasse. The Confederacy now has legal claim to declare open war-"
"SILENT MURDERING WHELP!" The Corvian delegate shrieked and flew up to the stand of the Taehua Emperor, the bird nearly twice the diminutive sophonts own size.
It looked down at him, spreading its wings, on them were two clawed fingers.
"This! This is our pride, our great link to the ones you call Destroyers!" The assembly was now in open outrage, yelling, braying, honking, oscillating, and more, the Terragen Delegates yelling for him to get back here.
The Emperor was terrified, it was like looking at a beaked nightmare from the sky, one that could rip him to shreds with ease.
"WE DO NOT STAND FOR YOUR BLUSTER, WE OF THE FLOCK RENOUNCE THIS ASSEMBLY, YOU ARE NO LONGER WORTH EVEN TRADE! YOU ARE MURDERERS, THE ENDERS OF THE DYNASTY OF KINGS!" The Corvian jumped and flapped its wings once, the wind nearly causing the Emperor to fall from his own perch and suddenly flew upwards as fast as possible out of the assembly hall, the Par delegate screeching similar phrases. The Emperor pressed a small button on his desk shakily, hearts pounding in his chest.
Drones began dropping from the ceiling and surrounded the Terragens, all of them suddenly forming bristling weapons out of imported hardlight. "Under Section 8789-7656 B of the Confederacy Great Assembly Charter Accords, you are under arrest for biotechnological warfare and attempted violence on a head of state, remain seated until authorities arrive."
Admiral Wallace sat there with an almost blank look on his face, his fellow delegates the same. He looked up and asked one last question.
"Do you understand what this means for both our civilizations?" The Emperor did not answer, nor did any other delegate. They only waited for security.

2023.06.06 20:39 Shadow_Facts [WTS] Thrustmaster HOTAS Magnetic Base
I recently bought the TM Warthog HOTAS when Dell had a sale. I only wanted the throttle and grip, and even without the sale, the combo is cheaper than buying those to parts individually.
Anyway, now I have an extra base. The community can vouch for this thing, in that it's pretty outdated and is fairly subpar when compared to more modern alternatives. However, it's basically new, as I only ever plugged it in once to test the buttons on the grip. Everything seems normal with it.
It's free to a good home if you're willing to pay for shipping. If you're in the Atlanta area, and are willing to drive to south Cobb, we can meet up and I can just give it to you. I'd prefer to give it to someone that will use it rather than someone that will re-sell it.
What you will receive:
the base as pictured and nothing else.
