2023.06.06 13:34 bigbear0083 (6/6) Tuesday's Pre-Market Stock Movers & News
Stock futures fell slightly Tuesday as Wall Street digested a recent rally that led the S&P 500 to its highest level in nine months.
Futures tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average slid 39 points, or about 0.1%. S&P 500 and Nasdaq-100 futures also each dipped 0.1%.
The market is coming off a down session, with the S&P 500 falling 0.2% after touching its highest level since August. The Dow and Nasdaq Composite also fell.
Apple contributed to the leg down, as the iPhone maker briefly touched all-time highs earlier in the session only to end about 0.8% lower. The Big Tech company — which swung between a 2.2% gain and a 1.6% loss Monday — debuted its highly anticipated virtual reality headset as well as new software at its annual Worldwide Developer Conference on Monday. Shares were up slightly after hours.
Apple’s conference also weighed on other tech names, with Intel dropping more than 4% after Apple unveiled a new chip.
“If you’re a $3-trillion company, the tail kind of wags the dog to an extent,” said Keith Buchanan, senior portfolio manager at Globalt Investments. “Apple, just given the sheer magnitude of its market cap, is going to have its way with most broader indices.”
Elsewhere, bank stocks slid following news that regulators are contemplating increasing capital requirements for large banks. Goldman Sachs and Bank of America each lost about 0.6% on Monday, while Morgan Stanley slipped around 0.7% and JPMorgan shares slid nearly 1%. The SPDR S&P Bank ETF dropped about 2.2%.

And share your own experience or ask a question in the comments below. This post is sponsored by GetYourGude, the best way to book your London experiences. The link is in the description. And stick around until the end because we have a bonus attraction for you. Here are our top 10 picks: NUMBER 10: Big Ben and Palace of Westminster The Big Ben clock tower was completed in 1859. This British cultural icon is situated at the north end of the Palace of Westminster, which is the seat of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. The official name of the tower in which Big Ben is located was originally the Clock Tower and was oficially renamed to Elizabeth Tower in 2012. Did you know that Big Ben chimes every hour, and every 15 minutes smaller bells chime to indicate quarter hour? The Big Ben chimes can be heard up to 5 miles away. A few steps away from Big Ben you’ll also find an impressive gothic royal church, the Westminster Abbey. NUMBER 9: Camden Town This former industrial economic base has been replaced by service industries such as retail, tourism, and entertainment. The area now hosts street markets and music venues strongly associated with the alternative culture. Visit the busy Camden Market, which got its name from what used to be a horse stable and hospital, located right next to Camden Lock. Don't skip Camden Market Buck Street, England's first market dedicated to the conscious consumer. There are many other impressive neighborhoods and streets worth exploring in London, like the upscale Soho close to Chinatown and Notting Hill, home to Portobello Road Market. But more about exciting places to shop and eat shortly. NUMBER 8: Museums London is full of incredible museums, and most of them are free. You can start with The British Museum, founded in the mid-19th century. The museum is dedicated to human history, art, and culture. Did you know that it also displays the famous Rosetta Stone? This piece of rock with an inscribed slab became the key to unlocking the mysterious Egyptian hieroglyphs. Continue to the beautiful 19th-century Natural History Museum, exhibiting a vast range of specimens from various segments of natural history. You can even try the earthquake simulator recreating the 1995 Kobe, Japan earthquake or embark on other fun and educational adventures. And the impressive Science Museum is just around the corner. A great place to see, touch, and experience science first-hand. Of course, there are many other museums in London worth exploring. NUMBER 7: Covent Garden Covent Garden is a car-free area next to the Royal Opera House, filled with luxury designer boutiques, craft shops, and booths. Conveniently located in close to London's famous theatres, Covent Garden also offers excellent dining options. Visit Covent Garden Market, a seven-day-a-week market that opened in 1845, and Jubilee Market, with a variety of goods sold throughout the week. There are many other markets in London worth exploring, offering everything from food to antiques and collectibles, like the Portobello Road Market, Borough Market, and many other places, including fascinating food courts. Check our travel guide for more suggestions. By the way, our mobile-friendly travel guide covers the top 20 things to do in London and things to know before you visit. NUMBER 6: London Eye London Eye is a giant Ferris wheel on the South Bank of the River Thames overlooking Big Ben and Westminster. When it opened to the public in the year 2000, it was the world's tallest Ferris wheel. The structure is 443 feet or 135-meter-tall, and the wheel has a diameter of 394 feet or 120 m. London is full of other impressive views, that from London's Highest Public Garden - Sky Garden. NUMBER 5: Little Venice Little Venice is a neighborhood centered on decorative houseboats and a partly tree-lined, three-way junction of canals. Little Venice is one of London's prime residential areas and contains restaurants, shops, theatres, and pubs. A refreshing site and something you do not expect to see in London. If you have time, explore the nearby Paddington basin with Floating Pocket Park. NUMBER 4: Buckingham Palace Buckingham Palace is the most iconic royal building in the UK. It is the London residence of Her Majesty the Queen and is one of only a few working royal palaces left in the world. Don't miss the iconic ceremony of Changing the Guard, also known as Guard Mounting, carried out by soldiers on active duty from the Foot Guards. They have guarded the Sovereign and the Royal Palaces since 1660. Check the description box for the link to the updated guard mounting timetable. And while you are in the area, take a walk around beautiful St James's Park. And that brings us to GetYourGuide - the sponsor of this video. When you book experiences or tours, for instance, a guided tour to learn more about Buckingham palace and other parts and history of Royal London, you can effortlessly do that with GetYourGuide. Hyde Park is London's main park offering world-class events and concerts and plenty of quiet places to relax. Walk around Princess Diana Memorial Fountain or rent a boat to paddle around the lake. Don't skip the nearby royal Kensington Palace with the vast Kensington Gardens and picturesque Italian Gardens. Our favorite was The Regent's Park with plenty of paths and a green areas to relax. Walk around beautiful lakes and breathtaking gardens, including the Japanese Garden Island, and admire the animals. NUMBER 1: Tower Bridge and Tower of London Tower Bridge crosses the River Thames and was built at the end of the 19th century. You can even take a boat ride that goes under Tower Bridge. Don't miss the two essential attractions nearby - the historic castle Tower of London from the 11th century, which is famous for holding many infamous prisoners as well as housing the crown jewel, and the remains of the Roman Wall built in the 2nd and 3rd century. Most of the buildings in London were destroyed throughout its 2000-year history. However, you’ll still find Roman and other ruins spread throughout the city that are still visible today. Check our travel guide for more suggestions. And here is the bonus attraction that we promised. Did you know that the Prime Meridian Line, an imaginary line like the equator dividing the earth into the eastern and western hemispheres, is located in Greenwich, a village near London? You can actually see the line and cross it. How cool is that? And while you are in the area, explore other attractions, like Cutty Sark, the iconic sailing ship, the fastest ship of its time. Estimating the cost of your ideal swimming pool is crucial to ensure you can budget appropriately and make informed decisions. This article serves as a comprehensive guide to help you navigate the process of estimating the cost of your dream pool. Determining Pool Type and DesignBefore diving into cost estimation, it's important to determine the type and design of your swimming pool. Consider the following factors:Researching different pool types: Explore options such as concrete, fiberglass, or vinyl pools to find the one that best suits your preferences and budget. Exploring various pool designs and sizes: Consider the size and shape of the pool, whether you prefer a traditional rectangular pool, a freeform design, or something unique. Considering additional features and customization options: Think about the extras you envision for your pool, such as water features, lighting, slides, or spas, as these can affect the overall cost. Factors Influencing Pool CostSeveral factors influence the cost of building a swimming pool. Understanding these factors will help you estimate the expenses accurately:Pool size and shape: Larger and more complex pools generally require more materials and labor, which can increase the overall cost. Construction materials and labor: The choice of materials, such as the type of pool shell, tile, coping, and decking, will impact the cost. Labor costs for construction and installation should also be considered. Excavation and site preparation: The condition of your site, accessibility, and the amount of excavation and preparation required can affect the cost. Pool equipment and accessories: Pool equipment, such as pumps, filters, heaters, and automation systems, add to the total cost. Additional accessories like pool covers or cleaning systems should also be factored in. Landscaping and hardscaping: The cost of landscaping around the pool area, including plants, trees, paving, and outdoor structures, should be considered if you desire a complete backyard oasis. Budgeting for Pool ConstructionOnce you have an idea of the pool type, design, and influencing factors, it's time to establish a realistic budget:Setting a realistic budget: Assess your financial capabilities and determine the maximum amount you are willing to invest in your pool project. Obtaining multiple quotes: Seek quotes from reputable pool contractors to get a better understanding of the potential costs involved. Compare the quotes and evaluate the breakdown of expenses. Allocating funds for contingencies: It's advisable to allocate a portion of your budget for unexpected expenses or contingencies that may arise during construction. Additional Costs and ConsiderationsEstimating the cost of your ideal swimming pool goes beyond just the construction expenses. Consider the following additional costs and considerations:Pool permits and approvals: Research the permits and approvals required by your local authorities, as they may involve certain fees. Pool fencing and safety features: Depending on local regulations, you may need to install safety features such as pool fencing or alarms, which add to the overall cost. Pool maintenance and ongoing expenses: Factor in the cost of regular pool maintenance, including water treatment, cleaning, and potential repairs or replacements of equipment over time. Energy efficiency considerations and costs: Explore energy-efficient options for pool equipment, such as variable-speed pumps or solar heating, which may have higher upfront costs but can lead to long-term savings. Case Studies: Examples of Pool CostsTo provide a practical perspective, let's consider a few case studies illustrating different pool costs:Case study 1: Small fiberglass pool installation: A small fiberglass pool with basic features may cost between $30,000 and $40,000, including excavation, installation, and basic landscaping. Case study 2: Large custom concrete pool construction: A large custom concrete pool with intricate design elements, advanced features, and extensive landscaping can range from $80,000 to $150,000 or more. Case study 3: Medium-sized vinyl liner pool installation: A medium-sized vinyl liner pool with standard features may cost between $25,000 and $35,000, depending on the complexity of the design and additional options. Financing Options for Pool ConstructionIf your budget falls short, various financing options can help make your pool dreams a reality:Loans or home equity: Research financing options such as personal loans or home equity loans to bridge the financial gap. Local incentives or rebates: Explore if there are any local incentives or rebates available for energy-efficient pool installations, as they can help offset some costs. Consider long-term costs and return on investment: While the upfront cost of your ideal swimming pool is important, also consider the long-term savings from energy efficiency and the potential increase in property value. ConclusionEstimating the cost of your ideal swimming pool, particularly when considering a gunite pool, is a crucial step in planning your pool project. A gunite pool offers durability, customization options, and long-term value, but it's important to have a clear understanding of the associated costs.By determining the pool type and design, considering factors that influence pool cost, budgeting for pool construction, and accounting for additional expenses, you can develop a realistic estimation for your gunite pool. When estimating gunite pool cost, factors such as pool size, construction materials, labor, excavation, equipment, and landscaping all contribute to the overall expenses. It's essential to set a realistic budget, obtain multiple quotes from reputable pool contractors, and allocate funds for potential contingencies. In the case of a gunite pool, the cost can vary significantly depending on the size, design complexity, and additional features desired. While a small to medium-sized gunite pool may range from $50,000 to $100,000, larger and more elaborate designs can exceed $100,000. Exploring financing options, such as loans or home equity, can help make your gunite pool a reality, ensuring you can bring your dream pool to life within your budget constraints. It's also important to consider the long-term costs and return on investment, as a gunite pool offers durability and potential energy efficiency savings over time. In conclusion, estimating the cost of your ideal swimming pool, specifically a gunite pool, is crucial for effective planning and decision-making. By considering all relevant factors, conducting thorough research, obtaining professional advice, and creating a realistic budget, you can embark on the journey of building your dream gunite pool. With careful estimation and budgeting, you can create a stunning and enduring pool that brings joy, relaxation, and value to your home for many years to come. |

An activist promoting carbon capture who has walked 4,250km from London to Istanbul said his efforts are a metaphor for the "Action and consistency" needed to tackle climate change.
Asked what message he hoped to share through his challenge, Mr Cohon told the PA news agency: "Don't wait - we don't have to wait for corporations, we don't have to wait for politicians, we can make the change."Not everyone has to walk 153 days and focus on carbon removal and remove their lifetime carbon footprint like I did, but do what you can do and it will make a difference.
A businessman with a long career and a once "Decadent" lifestyle, Mr Cohon set about trying to make up for his carbon footprint two years ago when he donated one million US dollars of his pension fund to carbon removal projects - which remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
Mr Cohon passed through countries including France, Belgium, Germany, Poland and Hungary on his journey, and although his body is now "Ready for a big massage" he said the walking was "Easy".
Mr Cohon recalled walking across a bridge in the Netherlands where there were "Thousands of diesel trucks", walking down a canal between Hanover and Berlin where there were barges transporting coal, and sleeping at a truck stop beside the largest steel plant in eastern Germany.
Mr Cohon said he was encouraged "Every day" by walking with 77 different people across the challenge, including chief executives, activists and journalists, who discussed the issues of carbon removal.
