2023.06.06 22:55 Familiar_Count_300 37 [M4F] #Trumbull CT - Looking for a partner
I am a 37 year old straight male located in Trumbull CT and am looking for a woman for an ongoing relationship. I am poly and in an ENM marriage, we only date separately. Eventually kitchen table poly might be 'on the table' if things develop, get more serious, and there's a mutual interest.
I am ideally looking for someone interested in something with long term potential who is consistent, a good communicator, fun to be with, and is open to meeting at least once or twice a week (schedules permitting).
I prefer someone local (local-ish) to Trumbull as it is easier to get together but for the right person an hour to an hour and half drive is do-able for me. I work from home with a very flexible schedule so daytime/evening/weekend all work for me. I can generally host but it depends on the day/time and usually I'm quite alright with last minute meet ups too.
I enjoy going out to restaurants, trivia nights, axe throwing (terrible at it), bowling, cycling, light hiking, pilates, photography, going to concerts and movies, staying in and playing board games/video games, and traveling (I try to get out of the US at least once a year). I will try pretty much any other activities/trying new things as well so this is by no means an extensive list.
I'd love to hear from anyone who thinks they might be a good fit, you never know what will develop unless you give it a try and I'm very open to anything that comes along.
I have a photo on my profile but am happy to share more if we connect, basic info as follows: 6ft1 / 170ish lbs Non-smoker / non-drinker

2023.06.06 22:55 unspokenwords786 Help! Not sure how to proceed Spouse Visa
Hello hope you are all well
I was wondering if anyone had experience with applying for spouse visas
I am applying from within the UK as I'm currently on the Tier 5 visa
I am currently working but my contract ends August, and I'm not sure if it will be renewed. My partner has not been employed for the past two months, but has a job lined up for next week
Basically my income will be the one that meets guidelines. However work has asked me to travel all of next week, I'll get back to the UK June 12. If I apply June 12 will I get a decision before my contract expires? Feeling quite worried
And when do I need to give my passport? I.e. could I apply now and then go on the work trip and then give the passport at the biometrics appointment? Not sure when they need us to send it
Well they ask on the application when you've been outside the UK as well not sure I can report this ahead of time
Would love any advice!! Thank you

Yeah these last few chapters have been kinda insane and sad. Don’t worry this is the last of that for a bit! After this chapter things SHOULD calm down, this one is a bit shorter then the last few. This fanfic is based off the fanfic The isolationists, by
Seeyouon_otherside. Constructive criticism is appreciated.
Memory Transcript Subject: Sergeant first class Anax, Zeyzel of the wanderer fleet. I…could hardly think. We knew the federation was bad, but this…this was pure evil. An evil so potent, so powerful that it sees itself as good in a horrible twisted way…I could hardly process what I just heard I didn’t want too but, here I was going through all the information. Disposing of living people in such a way, treating them as disposable waste, they had no regard for life they deemed as tainted.
Even the Arxur had a degree of respect for life even if it came from a place of wondering what the next meal was. I sat further back in my chair. Watching Lemon and Alvaro try and comfort Hazard. This so-called madman had the heart, the care, the ability to make a book, a book for all those children lost. To take the time to name every single one.
I took the book and began to flip through it. I looked at all the faces, some were looking happy with their arms, paws, legs, and even tentacles, reaching up towards the camera. Others looked beten, bruised, lifeless with tears in their eyes. Those eyes…they were filled with not understanding what or why this was happening. Those last photos looked like they were taken as an afterthought.
Then I realized something. These photos were the only marker of their existence…at all…some were captured with joy and wonder on their faces, others…not so lucky. I then made a silent vow to myself. This book would be protected by me, and passed down from generation to generation. To give everyone the harsh reminder of what the federation did. I then read off some of the names. “Turmoil, Lucis, Rendalla, Mellow, Brosive, Handy, Trime…”
“Trime…I remember Trime.” I looked up and saw Hazard lean over to me as Lemon and Alvaro backed up.. “He was taken here because both of his parents had predator disease, when in reality they both had PTSD from seeing their cousins get eaten alive by the Arxur. So they assumed he had it too. No matter how hard the parents pleaded to those bastards they just laughed and said, you can’t fool us predators. They then…threw him into my cell. It was pure luck that I caught him at all.”
Alvaro asked the question I was scared to say. “They just threw the children in with the others?”
Hazard shook his head no. “Normally they had a special cell they would be dumped into with all the other children. They just threw him in there with me to piss off the parents. I…never saw them again…he was so little and scared. I comforted him as best I could, and gave the little Yotul my extra food as I didn’t need much. Told him to hide whenever the exterminators came for me. Then I made him this.” Hazard pulled out a small stuffed toy from a hidden compartment on his suit, the toy was made from a variety of clothes and other items. It represented a teddy bear from earth.
“I would sing him to sleep every night. Holding him as I did. Then one day I came back and…he was gone. This toy was all that was left of him. I found out later they tried to pump him full of some sort of experimental drug…it killed him by causing most of internal organs to collapse… he died slowly as the scientists wanted to study the effects of it. Then he was...disposed of.”
I swished my tail in acknowledgment. Then I thought of something. “Um, Hazard. You seem to be very focused on protecting children. I think it’s very noble, but I have to ask…why?”
He looked at me. “Because they are the next generation, and we, the old generation, have a duty to protect, teach, and defend this next generation. So that they may live to see a sunrise that we the old generation, will know we will never see. Yet can rest easy knowing that they did.
It went silent again. We all absorbed this information. Then Hazard jumped up. “All right THEN! Enough with these sad emotions! Can’t do too much about what happen in the past! HAHAHAHAH! Now then. What do you guys need? You have quite the large fleet out there? I assume you need supplies?”
“You are correct in that.” Lemon replied, still stunned by how deep Hazard went. “Anything from batteries to ammunition. Food and water too.”
Hazard leaned back as if thinking about something then snapped up with his plates shifting to symbolize an idea. “I have just the thing! There’s an onboard foundry on this thing! It makes everything! Let’s go there!”
Getting up I gently placed the book on the table and we all followed him back through the hallway. Each of us taking more Neutrolen from Alvaro. Following Hazard we arrived at a large transport elevator. Stepping into it we went down, and down, and down. “As you can see this station is MASSIVE! MY HOME IS A FORTRESS AS IS MY MIND!” Hazard then laughed like a nutter again for about a minute then returned to reality. “We will now be entering the foundry area and-” he was cut off when half a body of a Venlil fell out of an open elevator door. Nearly hitting me on the head. “Huh. Though I cleared this elevator already.” He shrugged. “Guess not.” When the elevator opened we were looking at a massive foundry.
“Here it is my guys! All the equipment we could need to build a fleet of…anything! Weapons, armor, gear, ship parts, smaller ships! This place has EVERYTHING AHAHAHAHHAHA!”
The three of us all looked at each other and nodded. This place would be perfect. “This place is amazing!” I exclaimed. “What is the food production capacity here?”
He turned around to address us. “Hehehheheh! It’s quite nice! Plenty of space for growing crops, mainly for me but I always have WWWWAAYYYYYY to much food. So if we swap that out with meat cloning from the human ship that they pulled here. We could feed you the entire fleet with room to spare! IT WILL BE GLORIOUS!! AHAHAHHAAH! Oh yeah the station can move, it’s also a ship.”
We all stopped what we were doing to look at him. “It’s a…what?” He smiled like a nutter at that. “It’s a station designed to be a mobile fortress, home, restocking place, dry dock! IT'S EVERYTHING!” Lemon spoke up. “Uh, how do we get it to work?” We looked back at Hazard only to see him chanting something while looking at some molten metal. He swayed back and forth for a bit before coming too. “Oh! Right! Most of the systems can be operated by basic AI but a large crew is still needed. Not to mention raw supplies. Heheheh! The good news is that I know EXACTLY we’re to get raw supplies!”
His chest opened and a screen popped out. That displayed the debris field around us! “That’s genius!” I exclaimed. Alvaro nodded. “We can break down the wrecks into basic materials! Scrap what we can’t use and take what we can! We can reprogram the repair drones we have for disassembly work!” Alvaro finished. “Then,” Lemon continued. “We can upload the blueprints for official disassembly drones to the foundry here and then make more out of the extra supplies that we gather! Making the process faster!”
Hazard was practically vibrating with excitement. “Then! We can retro fit the disassembly drones we don’t need any more into repair and combat drones! Keeping some disassembly drones for any more wrecks we find on the way! As I’m coming with you and you can’t fight me on that! On top of that I have marked several shipwrecks that can be repaired to full working order! Expanding our fleet even larger! I estimate an additional one hundred and ninety ships! And that’s just the ones I know about! I also estimated that this will take about five weeks to complete! If we make A LOT of drones to help us! WE SHALL WANDER THE STARS UNDER THE GUIDANCE OF THE CHAOS LORD AHAHHAHAHA!”
I could tell everyone was feeling the energy in the room. Then Alvaro put his hand out. Then so did Hazard. Me and Lemon looked at one another, shrugged, and did the same. “READY!? THREE, TWO, AHAHAHHAHA ONE! GO TEAM! With that we all threw our hands in the air. Then Choking hazard ran one way and Alvaro the other. Leaving us just standing there. “Guys this way!” Alvaro yelled. We took off after him, trying not to trip over the dead bodies, and made our way to the ship. “If we want to station people here we have to clean this place.” Lemon told Alvaro. He nodded in agreement.
Alvaro then pulled something out of his pocket and attached it to his arm. He then activated it. “Hey, testing one, two, three! Does this work?”
“AHAHAHAH! MY MIND IS ONLY THE BARREN WASTE WHEN I CHOSE IT TO BE! Yep, I can hear you loud and clear!” Wait, Choking Hazard? Must be a communication device of some kind.
“Hey buddy can you, uh, clean up the bodies that are…everywhere?”
“INDEEEEEED! I SHALL TELL MY CLEANING ROBOTS TO TURN THEM INTO FERTILIZER! THERE DEATHS SHALL FEED GENERATIONS TO COME AHAHHAHA!”
Alvaro turned off the radio. “Yeah he’s got it!”
We got back to our ship and took off. When we landed and disembarked, a frantic looking Crew member came running to us. When we got off he ran to Alvaro and nearly ran into him. “Sir! Natare fell into the water carrier and the lid closed and we can’t get him-”
Alvaro tore past him with me and Lemon in hot pursuit. We ran through the ship toward the water hold. When we got there we saw Aurora, Leiejaa, and four others trying to get the hatch open. One was even trying to cut it open using a plasma beam. Alvaro leapt onto the top we’re the hatch was with me and lemon in close pursuit. He tore it open and we looked inside and saw Natare just floating there on the bottom of the large tank.
“NATARE!” Alvaro screamed. Natare then looked up at him and smiled. He shot out of the water and into his dads face squeaking the entire time. They fell off the top of the tank and onto the ground, Alvaro held Natare close to him, then Aurora joined the two in a tight hug. Me and everyone present let out a massive sigh of relief. Alvaro then turned to a crew member. “Why didn’t you call me?!”
“We tried sir! There was something blocking the signal!”
Alvaro nodded his head. “How long was he in there for?”
“Uh, forty of your minutes.”
Alvaro’s eyes went wide. “Forty…how did you not drown?” He looked at the giggling Natare.
Then I noticed something on Natare's neck. “Hey, did Natare get scratched on the neck?” Alvaro turned Natares head to look at the scratch, that’s when we noticed there were three of them in perfect spacing of each other. Me and Lemon leaned in closer. “Those look like…gills?” Then Natare yawned, the three marks on the side of his neck opened. They were gills. By the balancer. Alvaro turned Natares head the other way and it was the same as the other side. That’s when I noticed his tail is flatter and longer like a…fish. We’re the mutations…growing, evolving?
Alvaro held the absolutely soaked kit close to him, getting himself wet as well. Then with loving eyes he gently told the little one, “you're my little merman.”
This caused Natare to squeak in delight, although I’m certain he had no idea what his dad just said to him. He played with Natare’s little hands for a bit and then handed him off to Aurora, then they both started to dry him off.
The couple began to dry off the little one who seemed to really enjoy it. He made a satisfied purring noise the entire time.
As I was looking at the two dry him off, I realized I knew a lot about Alvaro’s past, but not much about Aurora's. A thought occurred to me. “Hey Aurora, what DID you do before you met Alvaro?”
She stopped drying off Natare, who squeak in protest as he seemed to like the rubbing motion of the towel, she then continued to dry him off but slowly. “Uhh…”
Alvaro stepped in. “You don’t have to tell us if you don’t want to. It’s fine. We all have our secrets we keep for a reason.”
I looked at Alvaro. “Wait, you don’t know either?”
He shook his head no. Then Aurora turned to us. “No, no it’s time you all knew. Especially you, my hunk of love.” The two lovingly kissed each other. “We will be traveling together for a while now so...okay here it goes.” She breathed in and out. “I was an assassin who was trained by the government to take out high priority targets. I received some of the best training and I have over eighty seven completed missions and a body count over two hundred. I was…very top secret to put it lightly.”
I dropped the towel I was holding. Lemon’s jaw dropped open, Leiejaa just stood there completely surprised. The only sound was the half gurgling, half purring noise coming from Natare. Then Alvaro laughed. “That explains why you're so flexible, and how you're able to get the kits out of tight places, like the vents, and how I never roll on top of you when I sleep! Don’t worry my sweet, you're still the same fluffiest best girl that I know, come here.” He picked her and Natare up and hugged them both. Aurora laid her head onto his shoulder and closed her eyes while Natare just yawned and fell asleep in between his parents.
I’m…still ashamed of all the lives I took…once I figured out why they had me do it…” Alvaro shushed her. “My sweet pea, don't think about that now. You helped to create life, six little beautiful lives. One of them is between us right now.” They looked down at the now sleeping Natare, and smiled with loving eyes only parents could have.
“Alright little guy, let’s get you to bed.” Aurora softly spoke. The three got up and left for their room.

I wanted to create a Pastiche of a Horror movie bad guy as a Quirk either as a Anti-Hero or relentless villain.
I'd call it Hex Force and it's the ability to asorb the ambient light to empower a nearly invisible armor that increases durability and strength with the Special ability of Teleportation anywhere within the distance I could travel by foot within 12 seconds. The weakness being only usable when im not being watched.

2023.06.06 22:49 Conventions Is it possible to live a comfortable life on kitchen/chef pay?
This might sound like a stupid question but I just genuinely want to know. I'm 21 years old and have 4 years of kitchen experience, 3 of those are cooking and I just got out of the industry last year and started my own company. I love running my business but no matter how much I enjoy it, it doesn't match at all to the satisfaction I had in the kitchen.
Kitchen work is notorious for being low paying and I just genuinely want to hear from more people who work in kitchens if it's possible to live a comfortable life and afford a home, vacations/travel, family etc on kitchen pay without struggling.
A couple chefs I know have really nice homes, but the catch is almost all of them work 2 jobs 7 days a week year round to afford it.
The only other chef I know that owns a nice home but doesn't work every day is in his late 60s non married and bought his house 40+ years ago so it was way cheaper then. He's also been working at our job for the past 30 years and took out 100k from his retirement to help pay for the house.
I work at a country club that gives all of us full benefits and 401k with 5% match and 4 of the chefs I work with have $80k+ in their retirement accounts.
I just want to hear from more people if it's possible to live a fun life on a kitchen salary? For reference I'm in Massachusetts

2023.06.06 22:48 Any_Proof2180 What is the best time for motn pump ?
Hi moms, a ftm here. Thanks to everyone here. I have learned a lot from this sub.
I am 8 weeks PP. I pump 8x a day, pumping every 2 hours during the day and every 3 hours in the evening/night. I have 2 motn pumps - 12 midnight and 3 am. Off late I am seeing a lot of supply output when I pump at 4 - 5 am. I make use of this time, but I oversleep during the day and wake up at 11 am (I need atleast 5-6 hours of sleep to function during the day).
As I am realizing I make more during the day, than night. I want to know what is the best time to have MOTN pumps, so that I wake up early and get a decent supply during the day too.
I am an undersupplier, produce approx 24 oz a day and my baby eats 29 oz.

2023.06.06 22:48 throwawaylurker012 CNBC: Financial Terrorists, Idiots, False Oracles of Delphi, All of the Above? How These Clowns Use Their Bullhorn to Burn the Market and Mom-and-Pop Investors (and Not Just Ryan Cohen Documentaries & GME Stockholders)
TL;DR:
Sections 1. Pulitzer Prize-Worthy CNBC (Just Kidding) 2. "Fast Money", Even Faster Losses 3. Wen Price Discovery? 4. CEOs on Air 5. Speed is King for CNBC Stans 6. You Have to Be Mad to Listen to Mad Money 7. Jimmy Cokerat and Short Sellers 8. Here’s Your Media Studies Degree: “CNBC and the Space and Time of the Market” 9. Segmentation without Closure (& "Naked Shorts Yeah") 10. The False Oracles of Delphi
1. Pulitzer-Prize Worthy CNBC (Just Kidding)
As far as I know, CNBC is incredibly light on winning a Pulitzer or Emmy for any of its financial reporting in the modern age. You have had individuals win certain awards in semi-recent years–Steve Liesman comes to mind for winning an Emmy reporting on the financial crisis in the early 2000s and a Pulitzer for reporting on the Russian financial crisis in 1999.
Another example is Daniel Yergin, considered CNBC’s Global Energy expert and Pulitzer Prize winner…but just like Liesman, they all have won their awards BEFORE coming to CNBC. No one is coming TO CNBC and creating amazing financial reporting worthy of awards.
But of course, the network has won awards right? Sure, why not. Ironically, one of the biggest times that they won the award was for two Emmy Awards for Business & Financial Reporting, which recognize outstanding achievement in business and financial reporting.
Ok, I ate my words! Let me just check the year…
Classic. They won an award for excellence in business & financial reporting in 2007,
right as the entire economic collapse of the housing market happened and they did absolutely fuck all to warn investors. Cue the Cokerat:
No, there is no mind-blowing expose featured here at the level of “Dark Waters” (shown in a Mark Ruffalo film showing how DuPont caused deaths in their area due to pollution) or one of my personal favorites, smaller town publications like Alabama’s Yellowhammer News, which found that the CEO of Retirement Systems of Alabama, who not only OWNS the building in which the DTCC is located but has been using taxpayer funds to build golf courses and himself a private jet for wOrK uSe.
No dear apes, CNBC never gets REMOTELY near that level.
2. “Fast Money”, Even Faster Losses
Beyond the fact that CNBC never wins any awards, we can look to see what their shows even begin to offer retail investors willing to watch.
3 years ago, Washington State U’s George Jiang & SEC’s Cuyler Strong found that CNBC’s “Fast Money”--which tries to shill uNuSuaL OpTiOn AcTiVity as must buys for retail investors.
They thought of a sample plan–look up a list of proper “unusual option activity”, both featured on CNBC and not featured on CNBC–and see what happens. (Fun fact: the study mentions options activity on GME being mentioned in 2020).
What happens?
There’s an immediate spike as coverage comes in marked by a “significant reversal”, one where the authors advise “media coverage has a destabilizing effect on underlying stock prices and investors cannot profit by following “smart money”:
Based on the CNBC sample, we find that there is an immediate spike in total stock trading volume at the minute of UOAs coverage on “Fast Money: Halftime Report”...While stocks with UOAs coverage tend to have a significant increase on the day of the coverage and positive cumulative abnormal returns over days following the coverage, these same stocks have negative long-run cumulative abnormal returns over the two-month period following news coverage….These results suggest that despite the informativeness of UOAs, news coverage induces investors to overreact and destabilize stock price discovery process.”
3. Wen Price Discovery?
Perhaps the biggest importance is that final line: that retail investors stepping in to the unintentional or intentional box trap that is set up by ppl at
CNBC “destabilizes” the stock price discovery process.
I'm not sure what they meant here specifically, whether that mean more internalization in terms of delta hedging of stock or other things (options are not my strong suit clearly), it points to the grander fact that it becomes near impossible or useful to gauge it. Some of the more interesting findings as well:
- >75% UOA as reported by the show are "covered" by commentators
- Most UOA that "Fast Money" reports on are deep OTM, but when you restrict to near term options ending 10 trading days away, only 1.6% fit criteria
- Abnormal volume occurs around the time of coverage affecting stock price
Interestingly we also observe that while Abnormal Stock Volume in Panel A does not spike until the minute of coverage, Abnormal Stock Returns begin to move a few minutes prior to the coverage. (WTF why before?)
***
- Relevant to GME perhaps (!), they track delta hedging to see if gamma squeezes can happen
Moreover, due to the fact that a gamma squeeze can take place when option traders purchase a large amount of OTM option, our results beg the question of whether UOA could induce a gamma squeeze. ....To test if delta hedging is occurring we look at the intraday volume of stocks with CNBC coverage of UOA of call options from the open to close of the stock market and after-hours....We do not observe U-shaped trading volume on the day before CNBC coverage of UOA suggesting that large hedging activities are not occurring on the day before UOA occurs.
These results show that delta hedging activity does occur as a result of UOA. This gives way to the possibility that UOA could be used as a tool to create a gamma squeeze. 5. Confirms other studies that CNBC watches don't really short
In contrast, Figure 4 plots the results for put trades that are covered on CNBC on the day of coverage from minute t=-150 to t=150, where t=0 at the time of coverage, though it is hard to find meaningful results for put trades...Again, these results for put options make economic sense as viewers of CNBC tend to by retail investors with little means to take a short position.
6. Compare UOA shown on "Fast Money" to Options Metrics...and seems most investors don't earn abnormal returns from CNBC's suggestions So not only does some of the movement happen even BEFORE the segments air, but some of the shorting is something that retail investors can't do or don't know how, but thankfully market makers and hedge funds do! How wonderful of them to help retail investors in true price discovery via the options market!
4. CEOs on Air
Beyond shilling options, unfortunately, due to their placeholder as a major network a lot of their coverage can be a good or bad thing for stocks.
Remember, coverage can be intense.
Richard Bernstein, author of “Navigating the Noise: Investing in the New Age of Media and Hype” reported that Jim Cramer’s–then working for TheStreet.com still–wrote 3 articles on the day of Cisco’s “Big Bad” earnings call back in the summer of 2001, and 17 updates in his columnist letter all while reporting that the CEO was more upbeat on CNBC than on the conference call.
Larger populations watching CNBC (
“On average, returns come in at about 162 basis points (1.68%) over 3 days for those companies after showing up on CNBC, and the report found an extra 100K viewers (Nielsen?) translates to additional return reversals of 45 to 64 basis points in the company's stock.”) often mean bigger boosts due to the higher coverage just by virtue of more eyes. And it also meant other things as well:
Finally our analysis of the language tone of surrounding news articles and of the CNBC journalist in the interview shows significant information cascade coming from the dominant financial news network. In addition, we find the information cascade is more pronounced for negative tone than positive tone, which suggests a concern that the media be a catalyst of market crash rather than a bubble.
This tracks with what we see elsewhere in some other research,
that CNBC’s negative pushes linger longer than their positive ones. This might matter even more so in just a few hours once CNBC releases their documentary.
5. Speed is King for CNBC Stans
Of course, not all research has been done on a show by show basis; most of it is sparing and spread out. But back even 84 years ago, in 2001 Emory University researchers found that the then-”Morning Call” and “Midday Call” segments that prices responded with seconds of being mentioned, with positive reports being fully priced in within a mere minute of being mentioned. The biggest profits were reserved for investors who would make trades within a quick positive mention on their “Midday Call” segment. But you needed to be fast!
How fast? Fucking FIFTEEN SECONDS. They found ppl were able to make off like a bandit provided they could pull up their laptop, type in the stock mentioned, click buy/sell, and have it filled all within 15 seconds. Remember again, this was back 22 years ago.
Algos have only gotten fucking FASTER. This was back when you might have had to physically watch or use computers checking transcriptions.
However, there is a juicy note in their write-up:
Summarizing the results, we analyze 322 stocks featured on the Morning Call and Midday Call segments. We find that stocks discussed positively experience a statistically and economically significant price impact beginning seconds after the stock is first mentioned and lasting approximately one minute. The response to negative reports is more gradual, lasting 15 minutes, perhaps due to the higher costs of short selling.
So even back then, that time frame only fit that mold due to the short selling going on tracking these CNBC recommendations.
****
And even THIS study was a follow-up that touched on a 1977 study, where the initial spike from any coverage took 5-15 min, before it dissipated, meaning as time was going on, banking on coverage by outlets by CNBC only fucking mattered if you were trading in smaller and smaller increments of time.
This will only get tougher and tougher as more and more advanced AI models get thrown into the mix, using the language learning models (LLM) to be able to gauge how just to convert coverage by CNBC talking heads (or people they invite on) into stock movements. Many ppl have already shown how ppl can order at the Wendy’s drive thru that no longer have ppl there but instead AI-based chatbots that take your order, fetch APIs to figure what you’re saying, and respond back to you in real time.
There’s no reason to argue that these level of AI bots aren’t ALREADY up and running to CNBC live streams seeing how their high frequency algos can front run us all even faster.
6. You Have to Be Mad to Listen to Mad Money
Cramer’s favorite show has been perhaps one of the most unintentionally studied shows in academic literature (the squeaky coke wheel gets the grease?), especially as it has been lauded as the most watched on the network often getting nearly 400K eyes on it a night.
In 2008, Northeastern U.’s Financial Services Review released “Investing in Mad Money: Price and Style Effects”. Much like CNBC’s Fast Money, they noticed that mean reversion was often the name of the game: huge spike, that then later reversed after his coverage.
Even more interestingly, they found that his “Cramer effect” persisted LONGER when he told someone to “sell” than “buy”.
One of the most interesting takes that is the simplest but the most damning of Cramer was the fact that HE NEVER SHOWS DATA:
“Cramer's recommendations have been shown to influence market prices although he does not support his analysis with new news or quantitative data”. Literally, it’s just gut feelings and V I B E S.
In fact, most academic research yells otherwise. The word for today is “mean reversion”, and CNBC’s coverage elicits a significant pendulum swing towards one end–enticing retail investors all the while–before slamming the door shut and swinging back. And his show is one of the biggest found to deal with mean reversion of prices swinging this sharply after a recommendation.
7. Jimmy Cokerat and Short Sellers
Even furthermore, I wrote in an old post about researchers tracking short sellers tracking Jimmy Chill’s show:
https://libres.uncg.edu/iasu/f/Hobbs_Jeffrey_2012_Short%20Selling%20Behavior.pdf
Three OG's at Appalachian State University in NC (Jeffrey Hobbs, Terrill R. Keasler, and Chris R. McNeil) So TL;DR...what were their major findings? Well dear apes, the ones that immediately stuck out are summarized above. These findings include that they saw statistically significant boosts in stock prices that Cramer mentioned once he hit his red button and tells people at home to buy buy buy. However, this effect then reverses course over the next few days. A lot of this matches some of the historical data a lot of other apes have found both on this sub and W Ess Bee in studying the performance of Cramer's stock suggestions over time…
Just like before in other studies, mean reversion came up. But more importantly, short selling did, or rather that “
a marked increase in short selling...even after controlling for factors shown in the literature to influence shorting” followed his recommendations:
We examine short selling following the airing of Jim Cramer’s stock recommen- dations on Mad Money, a CNBC television show—an event that is widely held to give rise to overoptimism for a subset of investors. Several factors make Mad Money a favorable setting in which to examine short selling when there is overpricing.
First, Cramer provides a copious number of buy recommendations in a typical month (over 100 made independently of viewer input). Second, Mad Money airs after the U.S. stock markets close, providing a clear event date, making it easier to measure a price reaction compared with other events that might cause overoptimism, such as recom- mendations by high profile analysts in the printed press or on the Internet. Finally, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)’s Regulation SHO, which is in effect during our sampling period, enables the use of daily short selling data.
Among the biggest things that these wrinkled apes found is that there were sizeable boosts, mainly in micro- & small- cap stocks:
"Engelberg, Sasseville and Williams (2011) report an overnight return follow- ing Cramer’s recommendations of 3% overall and nearly 7% for small-cap stocks. The authors also noted that as early as the day after a recommendation, shorting volume increases. Neumann and Kenny (2007) find that most of the first-day reaction to Cramer’s recommendations actually takes place the night before, and suggest that investment professionals might be able to exploit such recommendations by short selling."
**Additionally, we observe a spike in short selling activity around the time of the buy recommendation, most prominently on Day +1...**The level of shorting tends to remain high, relative to shorting in the days leading up to the buy recommendation, for several days afterward. To summarize, the reversal following these high initial returns is strongly indicative of overpricing, while the jump in shorting on Day +1 suggests that short sellers react to it.
So wut mean? It seems that in the first day after a "Mad Money" buy recommendation, there's a big bump (Cramer's favorite!) in short selling.
They wrapped up with this note:
“Thus a Mad Money buy recommendation leads to an increase in dollar shorting volume of 7–12.5%, while a 1% increase in the day’s return leads to an additional increase of roughly 5.8% above its normal effect, and a 1% increase in overnight return leads to an increase of about 8.1% above its normal effect.”
And remember, Jim Cramer was one of the individuals called out BY NAME by then-Overstock CEO Patrick Byrne on how they were part of the financial terrorism stunning their stocks:
Dear Owner:
The good guys won.
I announced Overstock's lawsuit against Rocker in an August 12, 2005 conference call I titled, "The Miscreants' Ball". In that call (and in subsequent elaboration on DeepCapture.com) I claimed that a network of dirty Wall Street players was engineering modern bear raids, destroying companies and destabilizing the system. I claimed that the network of hedge fund manipulators and compliant reporters intersected in a dirty journalist named Jim Cramer.
What is of vastly greater significance than this $5 million payment, however, is an examination of the cover-up conducted by elements of the New York financial press. Taking the lead was CNBC, which spent a great deal of airtime downplaying the significance of this suit, vilifying me, and smearing Overstock. For example, though less than 1/4 of the Miscreants' Ball conference call had even been about Overstock, and the remaining 3/4 concerned the modern bear raid, CNBC aggressively distorted the former and refused to mention (or allow mention of) the latter.
Not much to expect from financial terrorists at CNBC engaging in financial terrorism, like Jimmy Cramer, better known for photographs like this one:
8. Here’s Your Media Studies Degree: “CNBC and the Space and Time of the Market”
For those unfamiliar with media studies (as I am), it’s a field that deals with studying how the media is used, not always for good:
Media theories are essentially ideas about the media and the topic covers ideas about how institutions work, how media language is used, how and why representations are created and how audiences use and are used by the media.
Aaron Heresco, associate professor at California Lutheran University, had his own compelling take on the “media studies”-angle of CNBC called “CNBC and the Space and Time of the Market.” One of the things he hyperfocused on is that CNBC aims to “
foster a frenetic (or chaotic) televisual representation of the market.”
“Such a panoptic disposition places financial participants in a precarious situation; how much can they afford not to know?...Can you afford not to be constantly tuned in to the market?...Taking this a step further, if time is money, then time differentials (for example, live vs tape delay) position some market participants at something akin to an existential disadvantage – they are living in an entirely separate timeworld than others. Perhaps even more problematic, with the possibility of losing vast sums of money in seconds, a constant attunement to the market and one’s position in it is treated as the hallmark of successful market participation...
Although he’s confirming for a more pure academic angle, he makes a lot of interesting little notices, about how they try to posit the “now” of everything:
- There is an above average number of screens everywhere, both onscreen, in anchor’s hands, behind them (Citadel logo TVs?)
- Forces this idea that CNBC is “in the heart of the action” (which is false now–most of the trading no longer takes place on the floor of the exchange and is, instead, over the river in the state of New Jersey where all the exchanges are located in places like Mahwah or BATS in Weehawken). Discusses the point that the CNBC set designer specifically chose to have their set in the middle of the trading floor to look like they were in the center of the action
As a quick aside, he has a great counterpoint here with some shade thrown in:
“A counter-factual question may be fruitful here: why is Sharon Epperson reporting from the floor of the NYMEX? Surely the information she reports would not change if the report was done from inside the CNBC studio. Being live does not necessitate being on-site”
- They seem to purposely set up shots/camera angles where random traders walking in the background makes everything seem more legit vs. a nuisance or detractor from what they are talking about
- The urgency is often shown by fucking GIANT countdown clocks
- Sounds matter. They are try to push the speed by the giant WHOOSH sounds that show up as graphics fly in…they don’t NEED to do this, yet they do it anyways (“the whooshing sound indexes speed”)...they also save super fast music for the bumpers: “whereas the bumper audio that leads into and out of commercial breaks is most often fast-paced rock featuring electric guitars and rapid drum beats…all oriented around speed, action and movement”.
- One interesting theory he adds is that the commercials all seem to have a much more relatively “calm tone” and the ads often come with a “you made it!” kinda vibe…like…”You listened to CNBC…now you made it! Enjoy these cars, perfume, etc.” which I found interesting…
- When reporting they often overemphasize certain phrases on the fact that their coverage is “live” “immediate”, such as “up-to-the-second updates”, and have constantly moving graphics for whatever reason (he refers to this as “televisual aesthetic density”)
- Their CNBC Pro subscription tries to say they are more up to date than brokerages as far as information…so you’re in the know with CNBC, but MORE in the know if you pay them
All in all his push is that it comes with urgency urgency urgency, sometimes without much understanding why:
“To put this is less abstract terms, CNBC’s televisual presentation is centered on the concept of following the markets, often leading to a hyperactive style that never pauses to reflect on its own position but instead races off to the next event. The abrupt breaks between segments leads Feuer (1983) to describe flow as ―segmentation without closure– a description of the dialectical relationship between segmentation and flow that fits CNBC programming better than Williams’ rather fluid notion...”
9. Segmentation without Closure (& "Naked Shorts Yeah")
.
This points to something else that you may have noticed for CNBC: they often if not EVER correct any mistakes they have made. When was the last time that an anchor went on-screen and said “By the way, what we said last week about [blank] we were totally off the mark. We apologize to our viewers.”
I mean, we can even see this with Melissa Lee’s whole naked short debacle. I first wrote about it in an old post, saying that
if CNBC even CHECKED THEIR OWN FUCKING REPORTERS’ REPORTING, they would have noticed that they have talked about “naked shorts” in the past.
Specially, I was talking about how greenshoes options exist (where underwriters can naked short during IPOs…trust me, it’s fucked up I know) and they had talked about it for several companies in the past, such as Uber here:
“Uber’s underwriters, led by Morgan Stanley, were so worried the company’s initial public offering had run into trouble, they deployed a nuclear option ahead of the deal last week, so they could provide extra support for the stock, four people with knowledge of the move said.
This level of support, known as a “naked short,” is a technique that goes above and beyond the traditional help a new offering can get.”
So Leslie Picker (who has actually been on-screen often and even touched upon certain GME topics) herself has mentioned the phrase “naked short”, yet Melissa Lee utters then reacts as if she just recreated the fucking Ozymandias scene from Breaking Bad:
They never ever ever ever fucking say they were wrong. A lot of that I’m sure owes to this little ditty that tries to wipe their Rick taint-smelling filled faces clean of the bullshit they pull day in and day out. Even Overstock CEO Patrick Byrne called them out on it in his famous letter:
Now that Overstock has won, I would expect CNBC to invite me back to discuss these events, about which CNBC was so wrong and vocal. I estimate that the chance this happens, however, are roughly the same as the chance that any mainstream journalist who covers this $5 million settlement will mention DeepCapture . com, despite its having been central to these events.
10. The False Oracles of Delphi
Recently, an ape called [redacted] posted a clip about the Oracle of Delphi, a famous Greek figure in antiquity that people came up to far and wide for advice because they could supposedly predict the future…
…which we all know is bullshit.
The clip brought up an amazing point that, to be honest, I've been able to confirm or not confirm: why should the oracle everyone expects to be right be right
for free?
They can always lie, and be paid more for being wrong.
"... the structure of CNBC is to keep you on the edge of your seat, depending on them for information on what to do next. For instance:
The jobless numbers were higher than expected – what do you need to know to keep your portfolio safe? - Inflation ticked higher – can your portfolio withstand a higher inflation environment? - How should you get your portfolio positioned before the Fed meeting next week?
They want you to live in fear and react to every little hiccup in the market so that you’re glued to their network in order to receive the investment advice from their guests and anchors..."

2023.06.06 22:47 DirtyThi3f [June 12-14] We will be joining the 3rd party app protest
Hello Jays fans,
After extensive discussions between the moderator team, consulting with other subreddits, and gauging the desire of the users, we have decided to join the Reddit blackout from June 12th to 14th, to protest planned API changes that will kill 3rd party apps
We recognize that our subreddit is a daily destination for many of you and we did not take this decision lightly. We do hope you’ll take the time to read the summary below and see that it justifies our decision.
Recently Reddit Inc has announced changes to their API which, if enacted, will shut down many, if not all, 3rd party apps that a large number of Redditors use to access and enjoy their favourite communities - this one included.
One of the most critical changes to the API is that it is moving from a free to a paid model, resulting in expenses that developers of 3rd party apps simply cannot afford. To put the price change in to context, Apollo, one of the most popular 3rd party apps for Reddit (and an app created by a solitary developer), is looking at a cost of $1.7 million per month to continue operating. That’s a cost of $12,000 per 50 million API requests. In contrast, Apollo pays Imgur $166 for every 50 million API calls they make.
This means popular apps like Apollo, Reddit Is Fun, Narwhal and many more will have to shut down, permanently.
Even if you’re not using a 3rd party app yourself, these changes are likely to impact the communities you enjoy as well, with the vast majority of moderation teams relying on 3rd party or self-made tools, that utilise Reddit’s API.
For us specifically, that means less efficient and accurate moderation, as well as potential closure of bots that do a whole lot of work behind the scenes to help mods manage the sub (as well as deliver the content you’ve come to enjoy including stats/schedules and game threads just to mention a few).
So what are we planning? On June 12th, we and a growing number of other subs - large and small - will go dark for 48 hours. During that time, you will not be able to view or post any content.
This action isn’t something we take lightly.
We understand that many of you enjoy coming here on a daily basis to keep up with the jays, but we believe that we must take a stand on this topic - and this is how we can do so.
We understand that Reddit is a company that has to make money in order to offer us a place to be the community that we are - but killing beloved 3rd party apps is not they way to do it.
We are not asking Reddit to provide a paid service for free - we are asking for reasonable pricing for apps that people have come to love and depend on to parcitipate in their communities.
We can’t tell you that the blackout will solve the problem, because we simply don’t know. But we have to try.
What you can do to support this? While subs going dark is one thing, regular users can help as well.
Reach out to Reddit via the channels available to you: Modmail
reddit, comment in relevant posts regarding the API changes, submit your comments via the contact forms.
Spread the word about the changes and the consequences where you can. This doesn’t have to be on Reddit. The important thing is getting it attention.
Participate in the communities that highlight this issue:
Save3rdPartyApps,
apolloapp,
redditisfun,
getnarwhal/ And finally stay off Reddit completely from June 12th to 14th. The blackout is one thing, but users staying away from the site entirely will send an equally important message.
We will hopefully post some details of how we can all still enjoy the games together off Reddit those days (eg Discord).

2023.06.06 22:47 N0rth-West Justin I- Dangerous Times
12th Moon, 200AC, Stonedance
Word of happenings across the realm had reached Stonedance, pulled into the harbour by ocean tide, alongside merchants and fishermen. Ryman Caron ,who Justin had accompanied to the Stepstones but a couple weeks prior, was at the bottom of Blackwater Bay alongside much of the sellsword fleet they had travelled south to recruit had joined him. The late master of Laws shared this fate with the very king who'd sent him on that mission, the reviled Aerys Targaryen who was by all accounts dead by his own wives' hands alongside their only living adult child. In the wake of this abomination against all things decent there was only one monarch on the iron Throne. Meanwhile the Stormlands but a days ride from here was in open rebellion. These were dangerous times but for a young and ambitious man like Justin Massey they also provided opportunity.
'I'm going to Kings landing.' This sudden declaration made his lady mother look up from her soup as they ate dinner in Justin's solar.
'Whatever for? Are you sure that's wise at a time like this?' Lady Prudence enquire in the calm motherly tone she often addressed her second born when trying to persuade him against something.
'To swear allegiance to our new queen of course.'
'After what that woman has done much of the realm will be against her. The Stormlands are rebelling and no doubt others are also plotting against her. Perhaps it's best to stay neutral until we can see the direction things are going in.' She pleaded to Justin.
'Aye and as a result Aerea Targaryen will need men she can trust to fill positions at court she has made vacant and deal with those who rebel against her and pacify their lands. No doubt those who support the crown this will find themselves rewarded.' Justin grinned. 'I intend to be such a man.'

2023.06.06 22:47 newyork0120 This Could Be The Worst Song Ever Made (Part 2)
Now, this criticism is bizarre and gross to say the least, and it was originally going to be the actual subject of my rant, but plans changed when I stumbled upon something else related to the new Little Mermaid. Apparently, Disney did not simply remake their own film shot by shot, they did
change a few things: They made the cast more diverse, of course. They also added a couple of songs - they changed some of the original songs to make them more politically correct and inoffensive to the modern ear, but they also
added one or two new numbers. One of the new numbers is
a song performed by the seagull character voiced by a comedian who goes by the stage name Akwafina. Now this song has gone viral over the past couple of days, but not for the reasons that Disney would prefer.
Now, in some ways, this is an appropriate song for The Little Mermaid because listening to it makes me want to throw myself into the sea. Words cannot capture just how terrible it is. If I heard this song, and then over the next 12 hours my house burned down, and I lost my job, and I was diagnosed with a terminal illness, the song would still be the worst thing that happened to me that day. If I had a time machine, I would go back in time and kill the person who invented music before they could invent it just to prevent this song from being made. It would be better to
erase music from human history altogether than to allow this song to exist. This song sounds like what might happen if you put a group of deaf schizophrenics into a room with a keyboard and a bunch of pots and pans, and recorded the random noises that they produced.
And what makes this so especially sinister is that little kids will watch this movie, and the intelligent children with good taste will hear that song, and they will cry, and they will turn to their parents and say, “Why is this happening, mommy? Please make the bad sounds go away!” But the less discerning children might LIKE the song, and then they'll spend the next seven months listening to it on repeat as their parents slowly go insane. There will be parents who play this song in the car in order to satisfy their whiny kids, which will create extremely unsafe road conditions. I mean, texting while driving is dangerous, driving under the influence is even more dangerous, but most dangerous of all is to subject yourself to psychological
torture while trying to drive a minivan full of kids down the highway. That's what's going to happen now.
What I'm trying to say is that I don't like the song, and the most damning thing I can say about it is that it perfectly represents the modern Disney. When people utterly bereft of creative skill try to create something of their own, this is what you end up with. To go back to the Burger King analogy, it's like if one of the teenage fry cooks at Burger King actually tried to make a unique dish using the ingredients available in the kitchen, you'd end up with some ungodly abomination that makes the soggy Whopper look edible by comparison. So there's a
reason these companies just stick to the formula: all they HAVE is the formula. They don't have the ABILITY to do anything different or interesting. Disney has chased all the REAL artistic talents away. They're left with a woman who borrows her stage name from a bottled water company, and this is what you get from her. There ARE creative people left in the world - there are artists out there who make great films, make beautiful music, other forms of art, they do exist. Good art still exists. It's just that you're not going to get it from Disney.

2023.06.06 22:47 Subject-Object 31 [M4F] San Jose, California - Tell me your untold story
Maya Angelou said, "There’s no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside of you." We're all untold stories, unsaid voices that are untranslated and unstoppable. And that's why we want to reach out to others. To tell them our narrative and listen to theirs. I don't get the opportunity to converse with people often in real life. So that's why I'm here on reddit, because of this unspoken voice in me that wants to write, that wants to know someone's story. In doing so we're unraveling our bound stanzas, we're given gasps of air in the suffocating silence, we're making our abstract thoughts a concrete portrait.
I'm searching for a long-term correspondence, an intimate intellectual imaginative connection that travels into our unexplored continents, where we write freely without censoring our soul, following the relentless stream of consciousness to see where it leads. The most foreign place is another person's mind, because it's something we can never have access to, so what better way than to seek what is unattainable, what is forever out of my reach? I want to reach into it anyway, I want to write anyway even if the blueness in the sky is too far for my to reach, even if I don't know what it's like to be you, I want to try to understand. I want to understand because there's a painful passion that urges me to, an otherworldly desire to find someone who I get and who gets me, to find someplace sincere and wholesome and comfortable where the tumults and troubles of the world are diminished, where we can say the stuff we never get to say but want to.
I crave those long rambly heart-to-heart kind of conversations. The kind of conversations where you are an islet and the other person is an ocean, where you want to explore the sea that is their mind and it keeps on receding. The kind of conversations which leave you with a smile on your face that lasts all day. The kind of conversations that is like playing tennis without the net, free flowing and natural.
I use Reddit PM, not chat. Let's send fiery paragraphs of our passions, let's throw thunderbolts, let's gaze at the transcendent dreams that we have forgotten but which awaken, let's look at the small stuff of our days and see how they can be become big, let's talk about everything and anything meaningful and significant which evokes something visceral and vibrant in you. There's a wide variety of topics I'm interested in - science, art, culture, history, philosophy, psychology, politics, mythology, poetry, literature - we can draw parallels between different subjects. I want to draw connections to how your life is similar to the things I've read, to the collective tapestry of humanity. I want to know your interior and exterior, your worldview, your heaviness and your hope, what makes you the person you are. And maybe we'll become part of something greater than ourselves, as we realize what it means to be human through the eyes of another.
It would be nice if I could meet someone local, someone who shares my frequency, a kindred spirit, so I prefer people nearby. I live in the most expensive city in America where it's hard to make connections due to the hustle and grind culture here and I work a boring job, but I like to look up from the gutters to the sky to look at the vast space of potentialities, wondering if I'll ever find something in my life's journey. I'm an introverted individual, someone who’s curious about interdisciplinary topics. I'm tall, dark haired, and slim. My eyes are used to gazing at things in another dimension. I'm multiracial and have learned how to exist in the thresholds. Marriagefree, childfree, and petfree, there's not much I have in common with peers my age who are settling down, but I like to convince myself I'm fine with being alone. With a degree in liberal arts I'm a generalist rather than a specialist, and I'm all about knowing the reason behind everything.
C.S Lewis said, "Writing is like a 'lust,' or like 'scratching when you itch.' Writing comes as a result of a very strong impulse, and when it does come, I, for one, must get it out." Isn't it time you got it out? When's the last time you really got it on with someone, when you really got everything off your chest, when you didn't just say "I'm good"? I look forward to knowing the reason behind the things you do, at looking at your portrait, at reading your story.

2023.06.06 22:46 SoooManyQuestionss Visitors after c-section?
I’m a FTM and we are having a scheduled c-section at 12:30 pm on Tuesday. Is it unrealistic to have my mom and grandma visit on day of surgery? What was your experience? I love my mom and grandma and am more than comfortable having them visit, just don’t know what that first day of recovery looks like.
Edited to add: I’m more so curious about the recovery, will I be loopy? Does it take some time to come down and process that you were just filleted like a fish? And that you’re now responsible for a whole ass human? In your experience would you have preferred to be alone?

2023.06.06 22:46 Mavis_tires_probably I was served papers by a customer.
So essentially I am an assistant manager at a Corperate automotive repair facility. I spoke to a customer and made an appointment for a regular preventative maintenance service she was thrilled we were able to do the service. She dealt with my colleagues upon coming in for the scheduled appointment who recommended serviced on the vehicle. I never thought anything about it. Next thing I know roughly a month ago I was served small claims court paperwork with a outrageous numbers she wanted to be compensated for and me marked as a secondary defendant. I have contacted my Corperate office and they say not to appear but after talking to my local clerk of court they advised me the case will still active and I would receive a failure to appear if I don’t show. I have no responsibility with this and got caught in crossfire. They scheduled me and are trying to force me to use a sick day I don’t have to travel over an hour for court and spend all day there on my own dime. Where should I stand with this? I’m in NC if it matters. TLDR; I was served papers by a customer. I barely delt with. Corperate doesn’t want to respond with any actual proof or even an email stating it will be handled and I have court 2 days from now. I will be sitting in court alone representing a large corporation as a defendant and they don’t want to pay for me to go.

2023.06.06 22:46 animeisrealokay 38[M4F]Ontario/Anywhere Looking for someone fun to bully me lol
Hey there
I’m a former(?) nomad who is trying to plant roots looking for someone to occupy my free time. I bought a place and I’m no longer bouncing around to different countries and I decided I don’t need to wander around as much and I like my house more lol. I’m looking for someone to joke around with and spend time having fun with. I’m very laid back and I don’t find myself stressed out these days which is nice. Sure there is always something you can complain about but I prefer to find things to enjoy.
I was born on a Caribbean island and my parents relocated to America when I was a baby. Then we left for Canada when I finished high school. My entire life we moved around a lot so in my adult life I found myself doing the same and ended up in Australia and flying to different places frequently. I do still travel but now that I’ve bought this place I’d need a good reason to move again lol I work from home which allows me freedom with my time but that’s probably a double edged sword
I like a wide variety of stuff and not being in to the same things is in no way a deal breaker, especially since I’m open to trying things I haven’t before to at least see if I would enjoy it. That being said I’ll list stuff I like to make things easier!
Video games (a lot of single player but also WoW) Anime and manga (not very often these days) Reading in general Writing is something I love doing Listening to and also making music Going to restaurants to try new stuff I go to family cookouts fairly often and they’re fun, barbecue or giant feasts and playing cards and all the joking and laughing are great and while I love my house I wouldn’t miss those lol
No racism is cool, otherwise dark humour and toilet humour and etc is cool with me! I’m here for fun!
Oh and I’m 100% looking for a girlfriend btw

2023.06.06 22:44 toomuchelectricity Paint/paint thinner fumes and vomiting
I am an artist of ~10yrs who has primarily worked with acrylic, watercolor, gouache, everything but oil. Recently I decided to make the leap over to oil paints and I absolutely love them. Great success in my commissions, lots of interest in my recent work, overall a positive step forward for me as a painter.
The last week or so I’ve had time off of work, which means spending good portions of the day at my desk working on commissions. Saturday night I finished and felt some light nausea/headache, ate a small dinner and went to bed. Woke up at 12:30am and threw up. Went back to sleep and felt okay in the morning.
Today I’ve spent the last three hours painting, got up from my desk and am now incredibly nauseous again, same feeling as Saturday. I’m wondering if it’s from sitting over the paints and paint thinner for so long. I use Gemini masterpiece odorless paint thinner as I thought it would be safer in a smaller studio area, but it definitely still has a smell to it. The room has two doors that stay open and air constantly circulating through the house, and I’m trying to figure out how to get the windows above my desk open when I’m working.
I do have a chronic digestive disease that affect my daily life but this level of nausea and actually vomiting is quite rare, hence my concern.
Tl;dr: am I accidentally poisoning myself and what should I do to be safer? Or am I being paranoid?
