2023.06.06 21:43 Stoopkid812 Face/Off/Marcus/Caleb/Campion
Can we talk about Marcus for a second ?
He may be the most important character on the show next to mother .
Besides being the best all around soldiers on Kepler he also somehow is one of the smartest people on the show.
sometimes he says some wise shit and I wonder where it came from ..
not to mention it seems like the planet bends to his will at times
remember the giant rock lit up the very second he needed to shove someones head into it ? praise sol.
And anyone else think the whole getting a new face/identity thing worked out a little too easy for him? a little too convenient.
So who really was Caleb??
He was an atheist orphan just like lil campion
* But we know "the trust" can re write peoples memories soooooooooo
was the trust on earth re writing minds ? idk
what if Caleb knew Campion ? could of been his brother maybe? a friend ? a enemy ?
or
What if Caleb IS Campion ??!!!..
lol na im playin I dont believe that but it is interesting how resilient Marcus is on this show
and how he was atheist and switched sides to mithraic kinda like og campion but the opposite
And that mother chose not to kill him in episode 1 *
also side bar ; Marcus the name means "dedicated to mars" mars being the god of war
Caleb means "devoted to God"
I found that interesting,
an atheist orphan with a name devoted to God
changes to a mithriac officer with a name devoted to war

2023.06.06 21:37 Otherwise-Hat2849 Why is faith required?
Suppose you were an omnipotent god, and you demand worship, such as the Christian God. Would you give proof of your existence to those who wished to follow you? I imagine for Jehovah that it would be quite simple to perform a continual sequence of verifiable miracles. It would be quite logical in practice too, since it would keep God’s followers from delusion and doubt. There is no such luck with Jehovah though. He demands absolute fidelity without any demonstration of his existence. The only record of his existence is the bible. I think it pretty much goes with out saying that not only is the bible 2,000 years out dated, but it is also very unoriginal. Any Christian who proposes that the bible is indeed evidence for God’s existence is proposing a double standard. There are many books which claim to be actual accounts of a higher power. With this in mind, why not believe in Allah from the Quran? Could it be because your faith is what determines your belief and not the book?
Let’s examine what faith is. Faith is hope for a circumstance or thing that is not proven to be true. There is no virtue in accepting something on faith, since it may very well be false, and it is clearly not virtuous to believe the false. Faith has also been proven through out history, time and again, that it is equivalent to massive hysteria; IE: Crusades, Inquisitions, Holy Wars, etc. On a grand scale faith, thus far, has only proven to be an intellectual weakness, and a significant barrier to scientific and moral progress. With all of this in mind, how can God possibly expect us to view faith as the greatest way to glorify him, let alone demand this of us?
Most importantly, the point to remember here is that if we don’t believe in him, we go to Hell. If God is truly concerned about mankind he will do what he can to keep us from Hell, and withholding vital information from us and then requiring belief the is exact opposite of this. Someone needs to be convinced of something to beleive it. Wanting to believe something and truely believing something are two different things. Who reading this can convince themselves to truely beleive in Santa? Good thing your eternity isnt riding on that.
Does God really care about all people being saved? Or is it just the easily convinced or those born into Christianity? I ask this because the Bible has no more evidence in it than the Quran or other man made religious books. Seems like salvation is more of a crapshoot hoping to be born into the right religion because it's not based on evidence which is needed to truely beleive something, atleast this is the case for billions of decent people who are simply not convinced, the exact same way your not convinced in the Quran.
I'm sure I will get many downvotes on this post for biased reasons but it is a major issue that affects BILLIONS of people's eternal salvation.

2023.06.06 21:33 moka1za3bolla Ending theory discussions
I have 2 theory's , one based on Dante's inferno lore , and the other based on Ultrakill lore
The one based on Dante's inferno :
At the end of Dante's inferno Dante and his guide Vergil reach the final circle of hell , treachery , and in the final layer of treachery is Satan , depicted as a giant 3 headed beast with gigantic bat wings and a spiked tail , his 3 heads biting and slaying at the 3 biggest traitors of the world , Brutus and Cassius who assassinated Caesar and led to the downfall of Rome and judis who betrayed Jesus himself , Dante and Vergil then descend down his tail and start the journey over the mountain of atonement, concluding the inferno part of the Divine comedy and starting the purgatorio part
While we still don't know why V1 is descending to hell ( I know the text log after sisphys prime explains that the classical music we hear in the shop is what draws machines to hell I don't think it's the full reason) , the only thing I can think of is the final boss being Satan , with either a dying Gabriel or Judas as final act bosses
The one based on Ultrakill lore :
At the end of Act 1 the council strip Gabriel of the light , saying that if he doesn't kill V1 In the next 24 hours he will die
Now for the sake of clarity let's ASSUME that act 2 takes 12 hours , half of Gabriel's time .
At the end of Act 2 Gabriel kills the council , revealing to the citizens of heaven that God is dead but also condemning himself to death at the same time
My theory is that , with heaven finally realising that God and the council are dead , they might countinue their war against hell
As for a final boss , I assume it's a dying Gabriel , having been an enemy in act 1 , a foe-turned-ally in act 2 , and finally a dying angel on act 3 who wishes for one final duel against V1 as friends before he dies
That's about all I can think off , what are your theories?

2023.06.06 21:19 5213 An attempt at a brief overview of the creation and history of my fantasy setting, the 5th Age.
Feel free to ask (almost) anything about what I mention here. I don't have much fleshed out, but I have enough that I feel confident I can answer most questions.
Lux Aeterna, the White-Hot Fires of Creation, is the closest thing to a true, judeo-christian God that my setting has, but Lux is not alive. Lux is just pure energy/creation, but anything that is created is almost instantly consumed again, until Ao and Amara.
The Sisters of the Universe, Ao the Cosmic and Amara the Eternal Darkness, were born, and somehow managed to not be consumed again by Lux, allowing for the universe to form. When Ao was born, she spread her wings and cast the first shadow, which became Amara. This shadow allowed things to exist permanently, as it protected against Lux's eternal fires.
Ao took the Fires of Creation and combined them with pieces of herself to create the first aspects of life and existence within the universe she and her sister had formed. Her eyes became Solaia and Lunaia, the first star and moon. Her heart became Tor, the first world. And her breath became Sky Above All, the first of the Great Spirits.
These four beings saw only potential, and so worked together to create more Great Spirits: the World Tree, Deepest Blue, On Outstretched Wings, Raging Inferno, Stone Eternal, Green Everlasting, Gale, Always Falling, Sparkling Blue, Cloud, Gentle Embers, and Breath. The Great Spirits shaped Tor as they saw fit, creating many countless lesser spirits to aid then in their unfettered creation and giving rise to the First Age/First World, but these lesser spirits had stagnated in their existence, being functionally immortal, and only existing as what they were: a wind spirit was only ever a wind spirit, even if it could wax and wayne in strength. Until Breath sacrificed itself to create something new.
These new beings were fleeting, and in a state of constant change. Breath was the Great Spirit of Life and Willpower, and so its creations were always seeking to push the boundaries of their existence, giving rise to the Second Age. At first the other Spirits were fascinated, but one day the new beings discovered they could siphon power from the Spirits, and the first murder occurred, creating a new Great Spirit and the first god: Death.
The "birth" of Death caused the Spirits to recoil, and an arms race began. As the new beings, formerly known as Breathlings, but now known as Reath, developed new, better, more devastating ways of siphoning energy from the Spirits around them, the Spirits created new beings built for war that could withstand the energy draining machines of the Reath and fight back. However, not all Reath went down that path, and some worked with the Spirits to destroy their own kind as they saw only a lifeless world as the end result of their siphoning. Fortunately, the evil Reath seemed to grow bored with the world, and left the world in immense spaceships, leaving behind the Spirits and a handful of good Reath.
The Reath that stayed behind tore down almost everything they could of their murderous, gluttonous kin, and forbid any record of them to be kept, whether verbal or written. This act was doubly enforced by the Fae, the children of the Spirits and Amara. The Reath then spread across the world, taking up residence in places as far from their kins final standing creations, the Great Towers that touched the sky and launched their spaceships, as possible. The Spirits, still horrified by the actions of the majority of the Reath, left the world and their own creations behind, entering a pocket dimension created by Amara in case the remaining Reath also went rogue, or the others returned. This gave rise to the Third Age, a dark age of fleeting mortality, rejection of technology, ignorance, and the evolution (and subjugation) of humans.
The Reath that left flew across the universe, and discovered a bleak expanse filled with nothing, not even other stars. They flew for thousands of years until they reached the end of the Universe, where Ao's shadow and Amara's presence ended, giving way to Lux. Simply seeing this gave these Reath - now thousands of years removed from their power siphoning ancestors - incredible abilities, as now they knew the Fires of Creation. And they created a second world there at the edge of the universe, debating what to do next. Some wanted to push on, others wanted to stay, and others wanted to return to Tor with their newfound abilities to repair what they had nearly ruined. For years the debates went on, until finally the ones that wanted to push on attempted to do so, leaving their kin to watch in horor as they were pulled apart by the Fires of Creation, torn asunder and scattered like they never existed to begin with. This led the rest to leave the edge, though they seeded the universe with life as they traveled, creating hundreds of new, unique worlds. Finally, these "New Gods" found their way back to Tor, though far less of their number than had originally left the edge of the universe.
The New Gods saw a near lifeless world that had stagnated, as all but the Great Spirits had left, hidden away due to a war caused by the ancestors of the New Gods. And so they got to work, revitalizing the world, and bringing new, interesting life back to it. This new life permeated the world, creating the Fourth Age. The amount of new life that was created during this time was unparalleled, as the New Gods flexed their powers with no end in sight. But unbeknownst to then, a mental plague had taken root and was festering in some.
The Reath that pushed through the barrier of the universe and were ripped apart did not lose their consciousness, but found themselves spread across all of time, space, and creation. They permeated everything, but because their consciousness was spread so thin, they could not effect anything. Except where there concentrations of their existence, such as their ancestors, the Reath, and their descendants, the New Gods. And so these "Outer Gods" were able to concentrate themselves in these spots, infecting these beings with their own greed and insanity, twisting them into something evil. This led to a division within the New Gods, with some of them wanting to subjugate the world, and most wanting to protect and nurture the life they created. This led to a civil war between them, and to the temporary return of the Spirits and the Fae as they fought against the newly dubbed Demons and the newly created Devils (twisted Spirits and Fae). The New Gods, Spirits, and Fae won this war, but at great cost to themselves and their creations, and so they created new pocket dimensions where they could all reside and watch over the imprisoned Demons and Devils, leaving behind the world once more, and giving rise to the 5th Age.

And we know that everything works together for good to them that love Yah, to them who are the called according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28)
Yah uses evil for the ultimate Good. The best way to position ourselves on the side of Good is to seek to remove any pride from our thoughts and actions. This is done moment by moment through examining our thoughts and rejecting the ones that suggest that we are better than our neighbor.
Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of Yah, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. (2 Cor 10:5)
Recently I felt disrespected by my neighbor and thought “He hasn’t done as much work as me”. As fast as I could, I rebuked this thought, recognizing it as a prideful assumption. I further reflected that my work is only possible through Yah’s grace, so to compare myself to my neighbor in such a way is blasphemous. Going deeper, this thought was rooted in my desire to be appreciated by my neighbor. If I was more firmly rooted in serving Yah, any perceived disrespect I felt would be effortlessly shrugged off, remembering that I am absolutely nothing without the grace of Yah. To avoid pride and stress, we must strive to fully root ourselves in the notion that our work and effort is 0% our own doing, and 100% Yah’s doing. Someone who roots themself in this fact will have great peace and be unmoved by insults.
For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ. (Gal 1:10)
Whoever speaks a word against the Son of man, it will be forgiven him: but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come. (Matt 12:32)
Yah does not want us to feel stressed or insulted, He simply wants us to love and serve Him. Furthermore, to win the moment by moment war against pride, we ought to never lean on our own understanding, and instead consult with Yah in prayer about every situation. We should do this without allowing Satan to trick us with OCD-like thinking. Remember, any thoughts that bring about confusion are not from Yah, for Yah is not the author of confusion, but of Peace. If we feel stress from our thoughts, we ought to reset, focus on Yah in the present moment, pray to Him, submit to Him and calmly trust that He will guide our steps. Yah wants us relaxed yet focused on Him.
Submit yourselves to Yah. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to Yah, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double minded. (James 4:7-8)
Trust in YAHWEH with all your heart; and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes: fear Yah, and depart from evil. (Prov 3:5-7)
A man's heart devises his way: But YAHWEH directs his steps. (Prov 16:9)
Let’s remember Saul, a mighty man of Yah, who seemed to confuse Yah’s grace on Him as His own doings. When David received greater praise from people than he, Saul was filled with envy and rage. This envy and rage was rooted in Saul’s high opinion of himself and his desire to be praised by people. Saul’s thoughts and actions greatly displeased Yah, and led Yah to replace His Spirit on Saul with an evil one, leading to Saul’s destruction.
The Spirit of the Yah departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from Yah troubled him. (1 Sam 16:14)
Now let’s remember David, who was extremely blessed, largely because of his radical humility. Saul greatly desired to kill David, and David had the opportunity to kill Saul twice, yet David had mercy on Saul. Killing someone who desires to kill you seems like an obvious decision. However David chose to pray and consult with Yah before making seemingly obvious decisions. David received the discernment to have mercy on Saul, and let Yah deal with Saul according to His Righteous judgement.
Avenge not yourselves, but rather give place to wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is Mine; I will repay, says YAH. Therefore if your enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head. Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good. (Romans 12:19-21)
The next time we begin to desire the praise of people or think highly of ourselves, let us remember that Saul’s demise began in his thoughts. Let us strive for the most pure form of humility, and follow David’s example by keeping Yah in our thoughts, and calmly consulting with Him about every decision, even the ones that seem obvious.
The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to YAHWEH: But the words of the pure are pleasant words. The heart of the righteous studies to answer: But the mouth of the wicked pours out evil things. YAHWEH is far from the wicked: But He hears the prayer of the righteous. (Prov 26,28-29)
Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, And before honor is humility. (Prov 18:12)

(Gal 1:10)
Whoever speaks a word against the Son of man, it will be forgiven him: but whoever speaks against the Holy **Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come. (**Matt 12:32)

(Gal 1:10)
Whoever speaks a word against the Son of man, it will be forgiven him: but whoever speaks against the Holy **Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come. (**Matt 12:32)

2023.06.06 21:06 StupidInternetFart Tinder Misadventures - Pt2. Bellybutton Boy
Seems like
ReddX enjoyed the last story he narrated, and people here seem to want more... Far be it from me to deny you that all-too-enticing hit of cringe, so we'll get after is again today. Before we do though, I'd like to invite you into my head. It might help explain my reaction (or lack of one) to the previous dating nightmare. I was young, I was raised by alcoholic parents, and I was taught that speaking up about anything only brings trouble.
I don't need pity, I've been to therapy and moved past it for the most part, it's simply to shed some light on why I remained so passive through these events. Truth be told, this series of strange and awful dates slowly helped to bring me out of the shell that I'd built for myself, so it was all happening for a reason I guess... but we aren't there quite yet.
Dean was the worst date, but he wasn't the first date that I subjected to myself from Tinder. No, that honor belongs to Ben the Bellybutton Boy. Cast lists are unnecessary, TLDR is at the end. Let's get the cringe-train rolling.
Ben's profile wasn't very intricate. A single line about wanting something meaningful, which doesn't hold much water for me anymore... but I was 18 and naïve. Some might say that I was also fairly shallow. In one picture he was drinking a Natty Ice, in another he had on a backwards hat. I was close to swiping left on yet another bro-dude and carrying on... But then I got one look at Ben with his shirt off and I was hooked.
It might be a catfish, but for a body like that? I was more than willing to take my shot. Suffice to say, that he was a gorgeous human being. I should've been looking more than skin deep though, because Ben had some deep dark secrets. He did match with me though, and I was super flattered. We had a meandering conversation. I learned that he loves his mom, and is absolutely terrified of horror movies. Those things will come into play later. He didn't seem to have much to say that was interesting or clever, but I let it all slide. Ben's abs were blinders, a 3 pack on each side.
He seemed to push for a meetup rather fast, which usually made me go ghost in the few Tinder conversations I'd had before... But I thought to myself that now I was finally ready for an actual date with an internet stranger. Maybe he was way more interesting in person. (He was interesting, but not in the way that I'd hoped.) The fact that his body was chiseled from granite-turned-flesh had nothing to do with my decision. Again, isn't it funny the lies that we tell ourselves?
Ben wanted me to come over to his place and stupidly, I agreed to do so. We'd only been talking for about a week, and now I was going to deliver myself to his front door? Walk right into the wolf-den and hope for the best? God... I swear, I'd love to shake the living shit out of my past-self... but I truly didn't know better at the time. Maybe we would actually watch some Netflix and chill? Could he actually be looking for something meaningful?
Ben's place was in a lower-middle-class section of the LA outskirts. At the time, I thought it looked pretty busted but compared to some of my later encounters? It wasn't the worst house. Sort of non-descript and uninteresting, but well-maintained... much like Ben himself, I suppose. I scoped it out for a few minutes. Surfboards on the porch, a few potted plants, a bench-seat out front. It seemed very normal, so I collected myself, headed up to the front door, and knocked.
Ben answered and he was all smiles. He lifted my arm above my head and I gave him a little twirl. After a wolf-whistle, he commented that he'd like to see something that showed a bit more of my midriff. He gestured for me to show my stomach to him, and I did. I didn't mind. I put work into it. A strong body starts with a strong core. Ben seemed satisfied. Maybe a bit more than that in hindsight. His eyes devoured me, but he was a hunk. So I didn't mind. His predatory nature would soon be revealed to me, but I had no idea what I was in for quite yet. Instead, I let him scoop me up into a hug before he invited me inside.
The house was sort of bohemian. Lots of incense holders and dreamcatchers. Definitely not the sort of thing I'd pick, but he was a stoner-surfer bro-dude. Maybe all of this stuff was just evidence of a more sensitive side to him? I asked about some of the knick-knacks, just trying to initiate idle conversation and maybe dig past the surface level. It worked a bit. He ended up telling me about spending time in India. He seemed to harbor a lot of disdain for the country. Said people were shitting all in the streets and he couldn't find clean water anywhere. "It's like Mexico with way more poop and a few less beheadings."
I laughed. The line wasn't that funny, but the laugh also served to diffuse some of the tense atmosphere that had been created after endless jabs about everything from the caste system to the "dirty" street food and everything in between. He didn't overly-focus on a lack of attention from women, but it was mentioned. I made a mental note. Ben definitely had some entitlement issues, and with that rage simmering below the surface? It could be an explosive combination. I made a note to mind my P's and Q's and shifted the subject, asking what he had planned for Netflix.
He led me to the couch without answering and handed me the remote. "I'll leave that up to you. I've gotta finish preparing the feast." There had been a couple of red-flags so far, but nothing that would make me go screaming into the night. At least, not yet. I hit 'surprise me' on Netflix, and Ben came back into the room with a platter covered in fish. They were sardines. Even before my seafood surprise from part 1, I wasn't a huge fan of fish. Ben saw the look on my face and presumed that he should explain his dining choices. I really wish that he hadn't.
"I try to eat sardines and pineapple almost exclusively because I'm load-maxxing." he said with a nod.
I thought it was a weight-lifting term, and I just sort of nodded right back... but my face must've still look quizzical because he continued.
"You know how some male porn stars can shoot like the biggest loads of jizz? I think that's super hot, and I wanna be able to do that... But also have it taste good too. Not that I'm gay or anything, I don't eat my own cum like some [redacted] but I just think it's super sexy when a girl is enjoying herself. I'm also taking selenium supplements too and it's totally working. I can fill up a whole shot glass now. Before I started load-maxxing it was just like, this sad little poot of semen... But now I'm shooting ropes of the stuff! I might show you later, if you're lucky."
I frowned and shook my head, but I don't think he took much notice of it as he went to work obliterating those smelly, oily little fishies. I didn't speak up, but like any sane person... I knew at this point that I was wrong about my assessment aaand it was time to make my escape. However, due to the constraints of the social contract that we've all unwillingly signed, I'd need to bide my time and find the proper strategy. I definitely didn't want to have this jizzed up meathead explode in my face, if you'll excuse the pun. You don't just declare war, y'know? You prime the press, you square things with the UN, you make up your reasons.
The 'surprise me' movie that I can't remember rolled on, and he offered me the fish-plate. I politely declined. My brain was occupied with the perfect exit, and hunger is a decent motivator. When you combine that with the unpredictable meatball that I was seated next to? I should've been launching off that couch like a rocket. Truth be told? I should've just blitzed the front door and not bothered to explain myself. He might get upset, but I'd be safe in the car... But then I wouldn't have this story to share.
Eventually, the sardines all went to meet poopoo-Jesus and he leaned back on the couch. He snaked his hand onto my shoulder and pulled me backwards. I wasn't in the mood to cuddle so I'd scoot away, then he'd inch closer. I hated every second of this awkward little dance, but the strangeness got turned up to 11 when I hit the edge of the couch... And he started running his oily unwashed fish-fingers around my bellybutton. I squirmed away and stood up. I told him that this was all getting to be a little bit too much, too soon... but Bellybutton Boy wasn't about to let me escape that easily.
He stood up in that same moment and blocked the walkway to the front door. He asked me to please sit back down while at the same time 'guiding' me by the shoulders. He was far too forceful for my liking. It was a gentle pull into his arm, a gentle push back into the couch... But this was our first date. I've seen things like this before between my own parents. This toolbox is one bad argument away from throwing a cinderblock at the back of my head. I took a deep breath and used my go-to tactic of avoiding conflict at that time: submission.
As I sat back onto the couch, he dropped to his knees. I was expecting the worst to happen, but instead he started to baby-talk me... Which is still pretty fucking bad.
"Does wittle Dawnie want to see baby Ben's tongue? I can wick your wittle bewwybutton. Then maybe we can go pway wiff somefing ewse. My woad is about to expwode..."
I still wonder if he meant for it to rhyme. It was effective, in a way. I still remember those words many years later. The thousand-yard stare, I had adopted as my defense, started to gaze through time and space. Trying to find any reality that wasn't this one. Just because my body was stuck there, didn't mean that my brain had to be... So I disconnected as much as possible, but even Terri Schiavo would take notice of the horror that would befall me next.
I suppose baby Ben the bellybutton bully boy took my silence and disaffected staring at the ceiling as consent, because he lifted my shirt enough to expose my bellybutton. The first this he did was give it a really deep sniff before letting out a satisfied "ohhhh yeahhhh". Was he looking for a good scent? A bad one? Was he just THAT excited to unveil the mysterious allure of a teenage navel? The debate rages on until this very day. It doesn't matter much, because he didn't stop at smelling it.
His tongue slipped into that umbilical scar and started to explore. I never wanted this. I didn't consent at any point, but I didn't outright say "NO" either. I've unpacked this experience with multiple therapists. I think what I remember most vividly was looking down and seeing his oily fish lips. They were sucking on my stomach like my navel was the last source of oxygen on the planet. I recall seeing his tongue, covered in the desiccated and masticated remains of a sardine meal, fishing around for whatever the hell it was he wanted. He kept muttering to himself between spelunking expeditions, weird shit like "ooo baby wike your bewwy" and "mama make benny's peepee so hawd".
The cringe-meter was redlining, and I finally realized that he wasn't going to stop unless I made him stop. I told him that I had to pee, and that he should PLEASE drink some water. I was hoping it might wash away some of the sardine leftovers, if I really did need to come back. At this point, my plan was to bail out the bathroom window. Until I got to the bathroom and saw that the window was only about 6 inches tall. Just enough to air out sardine-and-selenium-laden ploppers, but not enough to do me any good.
I must've stood in that bathroom for 20 minutes or so. There was no escape. If I wanted out, I'd need to go through. Just as a reminder from the universe, every once in a while I'd hear Ben let out a large belch. At least he was washing his fishy mouth out. I steeled myself and headed back into the living room. I lied that I had a text from my mom and had to leave, but Ben wrapped his arms around me and begged to finish our date. I could clearly smell beer on his breath. Memories of dear old dad must've kicked in, because I found myself agreeing to sit on the couch again.
He continued rubbing his stale-beer-smelling mouth all over my stomach, except this time there was the added benefit of pauses to burp every so often. "Isn't dat so funny? Doesn't dat sound wike a echo mama?" I truly did want to die in that moment. I had to find some way to at least pump the brakes, if not bail out completely. I squirmed away from him, again. I told him this was moving too fast, again. He didn't ignore me this time. So I suggested that we watch a new movie. This time I chose a Chucky movie. Either he would get scared and give me an out, or I'd pretend to be scared and make the exit for myself.
If I knew how he'd actually react, I might not have taken this measure. The moment the movie started, Ben was immobilized. He had stopped trying to molest my bellybutton. All he did was apply a nervous death-grip the arm of the sofa. I asked if he was OK, but he insisted he was fine. He was not fine however, and after the first onscreen murder I looked over to see tears rolling down his cheeks.
This was my moment. It was either act like a cold-hard bitch, or continue being assaulted. I asked incredulously, "ARE YOU CRYING??" He nodded and started his whining baby-talk, but he didn't follow me as I leapt from the couch, called him a sissy, and flung the front door open. I quickly walked to my car. My brain had second thoughts, but I turned the key in the ignition. I legitimately wanted things to work with Ben. I would've been mommy. Whatever. But he didn't ask for consent at any point and was overly-pushy about everything he wanted.
While I felt bad about doing that to Ben, and piling an unneeded insult on top of it... I felt much more delight than despair. This situation was headed for a place that I didn't want it to go, and I was able to scratch and claw my way back to freedom. The bellybutton boy had unveiled his Achilles heel as a silly talking point, and I thanked my lucky stars that I was able to use that to my advantage. He could've flown into a rage over it, but he didn't. The guardian angel on my shoulder was working overtime on that day, I have no doubts about that. Looking back, should I have called the cops and reported him? Probably. Instead, I just thanked my lucky stars and tried to move past it in my own way...
You'd think that would be the end of this tale, but there was a follow-up to the bad date. Remember when I mentioned that Ben was close to his mother? Well, she charged into battle in defense of her little bellybutton man... I answered the first time she called. I wouldn't make that mistake again. She accused me of abusing her special boy, she threatened me with everything from death to lawsuits, she slung every curse under the sun at me. After 5 minutes, I realized I was trying to talk sense into a lunatic and blocked her number.
Bellybutton matriarch wasn't done yet though... I would get sporadic VOIP calls for weeks afterwards. She contacted my job to report me. She attempted to harass MY mom and every other contact she could find. I suppose that's the unfortunate part of social media. I explained to everyone what had happened and they all agreed that she was completely unhinged. Luckily, it seemed like her harassment was confined to the internet. I went dark for a month, and I guess she found a new target. Ben wouldn't have trouble getting more dates, even if he was a certified navel-gazer.
It was at this point that I swore off of Tinder for the first time. That wouldn't stop me from meeting up with maniacs though. My therapist says that I demonstrate a concerning amount of thrill-seeking behavior, and that these encounters are a manifestation of that. While I don't disagree 100%, I still think I overanalyze and avoid uncertainty in a lot of other areas of my life. Maybe the comments will let me know how they feel about that diagnosis?
Speaking of therapy... In hindsight, I can absolutely see how that insane woman could've produced a self-absorbed, baby-talking dunderhead. If you look at it through that frame? Then the tale of Ben the bellybutton boy takes on a much more depressing tone. He's like a modern-day Frankenstein... but he does still bear some responsibility for his actions. At least, that's what I tell myself when I start feeling guilty.
I did manage to stay off Tinder for a while, but in our next installment we are headed to Craigslist for a real treat. Be afraid. Those are tales for another day though... Thanks to ReddX if he reads this. Please subscribe to him on YouTube if ya haven't. I'll see you again next time my little Tinderlings.
