Rehabbing Wild Baby Rat
2023.06.05 15:06 Glittering_Multitude Rehabbing Wild Baby Rat
Hello wonderful rat people! I volunteer as an animal rescuer in New York City and was given a baby “squirrel” that turned out to be a bay rat (approximately 1 to 2 weeks old, eyes still closed). The wildlife rehab center near me does not take baby rats, so I am trying to find a rat rehabber, but in the meantime, what should I be doing for it?
I’m keeping the rat in a pet carrier with a heating pad on the low setting, and I’m syringe feeding him every three hours with Similac formula. I’ve been doing post-feeding stimulation and he seems to be peeing and pooping ok. I’ve ordered multi-pet formula that will arrive tomorrow and am trying to schedule a vet appointment with an exotic vet for an evaluation, but I’m not sure what else I should be doing or the rats chances of being released back into the wild. Should I be holding him to socialize him with the expectation that he is nonreleasable or should I minimize contact to try to keep him wild? Does anyone know a rat rehabber in New York City or the nearby suburbs?
Thank you for any advice!

2023.06.05 15:06 C4ESIUM Strategy Tips for Dune (General and for each factions)
This post is a compilations of tips I saw on BoardGameGeek, Jack Reda's Youtube videos, and personal experience. Feel free to comment your own tips so I can add them to the list. I only cover the base game and first extension (in advance game mode), but I might add the other factions later if I ever have the opportunity to play with them. English is not my native language, so pardon my French if I made mistakes.
General tips
Shipping, resurrecting, fighting is expensive (unless you play Fremen). Dune is a game of opportunity, you have to be ready to attack at the right moment, and recognize these moments (from experience, and with the help of this tips). Each faction advantage is very strong, so you should abuse them at every moments. Choose your traitor wisely : Picking the strongest might give you more spice, but player are usually less likely to use them all the time because of the traitor risk. But bluffing/double bluffing your traitor choice will also depend on the table, who are the players, how often do you play with them... Avoid keeping an Atreides traitor, because once the KH is out, it might be a dead card. Choose your alliance by looking at the board for a quick win if you see that you might be 1 stronghold away from victory with someone. Or choose your alliance by combining fancy powers for the long game. Also look at who owns what tech tokens, you might want to avoid allying with someone who has some when you have some as well.
FREMEN TIPS
You are like the Zergs is SC2, you come with a massive number of forces, and even if someone destroy you, you can still come back. Often underestimated, use the overconfidence of the players to your advantage. You might lose lots of battle due to the lack of combat abilities, but you can win the war (the game) with your ability to recover very easily. In order to make your enemies commit to you to lose resources, you must be annoying, all over the place (thanks to your 2-territory movement).
SETUP: Start with 5 in Sietch Tabyr (because it's a stronghold, you should already occupy it) and 5 in False Wall South (because you can't really deploy in this side of the map so it's always good to have some options here). No need to split more.If you play with tech token, then you also have an interesting thing to do after the first storm: Bribe someone for 2 or 3 spice. No matter what it is for, you will get this right after the CHOAM Charity. Try buying a card at the beginning, before everyone gets too much spice, and after some have spent their starting spice. You don't need to keep any spice to deploy or fight so all your spice can be spent into treachery cards.
INCOME: Harvest Spice ! This is your best source of income. And with spice harvest comes the worm riding possibility. This is where the Atreides come to be helpful. If you manage to get a deal with the Atreides player, in order to know when he sees his first sand worm in the spice deck, you will have multiple information at once: As long at the Atreides does not see any sandworm : only the second spice blow per turn can have a worm, so focusing on this location give you more chances to get to ride it. Plus, if a sand worm does appear, you can move your troops to the location of the first spice blow of the turn. This mechanic makes you focus on only half of the spice blow, so you might still want to harvest both spice blows per turn if you can. You can also pretend to make a deal with another faction to let them the first spice blow in exchange for bribes. But in the end, if you control the spice blows, and don't let anything to Atreides/Harkonnen/Ixians, you have the advantage and weaken them. Last way to gain spice if by selling information. Same as everyone, you could know safe leaders, of cards in hand, but you also have the storm deck, and that can be valuable especially to Harkonnen and Atreides who might also be trying to harvest spice. Once your hand is full, you don't need spice anymore, so use it to bribe players.
COMBAT: You can bring large amount of troops, and make them fight full strength, at no cost, so you are a force of nature. You also have the strongest leaders if they are not killed in battle. Keep your best ones for when you have defense cards, but also be careful: Stilgard is 7 spice to whoever have the Traitor card corresponding, he is almost never put aside if a player draws him.
ALLIANCE: Gain spice harvesting control with Atreides, or Ixians (More secure income, and less obstacles for spice harvesting, good card knowledge that can be leveraged in combat).Gain the ability to become a never-ending wave of troops with Emperor or Bene Tleilaxu revival bonus (Better income, can heal lots of troops). Gain combat supremacy with Harkonnens traitors or card knowledge, or with Bene Gesserit's voice (low income, but still great in combat). Or play the long game and prevent others from winning with the guild (good income, but not very beneficial for the Fremen)
BONUS: Using a Karama card to bring a worm to an enemy army is devastating. Using it to reposition your own army could also be worth it, but be careful not to go too far or you won't be able to reinforce. You can also use your ability to only lose half your troops in storm to cancel a victory when a stronghold is inside the storm. Once the game is at turn 9-10, start to think about your alternative win condition, with the help of you ally.
ATREIDES TIPS
You are the scholars, the Littlefinger of this game. If you keep your notes clean, you won't even need prescience in combat, because at some point, you can know the entire hand of every player. Your factions advantages are great, but not always easy to take advantage of. Atreides are social, you can manage good relations with players by selling information, but don't give too much or your advantages will be worthless.
SETUP: Start by finding both kinds of attack and/ or defense, buy the right treachery cards in order to better use your prescience. If you have both options for killing a leader or protection yours, you can start battling. Going for spice in the first turn is great for either... getting spice or battling others for it and losing the 7 troops needed for KH.
INCOME: Sell Intel! People going for spice blows want to know about the next, people buying treachery cards want to know what they are bidding on, people going into battle want to know if they have a safe leader. You also want to harvest spice, and win battle, but you have economic faction in the game so they are your main market for selling intel. You can make deals with some players where I wink to them if a specific card they ask is on the auction, but make sure that the bribe is worded in a way you can keep information from them, or high enough so you can have a steady income.
COMBAT: Once you have both kind or weapon or defense, you can kill enemy leader or protect your own. But if you keep track of what cards each opponent have, you might know that some players don't have both kind, and that using prescience to see their weapon/defense is useless. This is when you can ask for the numbers they put in combat and minimize the troops you will lose. You can also step up in other players combat before they reveal to sell valuable information about the opponent hand of treachery cards, and even make the opponent pay you more to not give the information. Knowledge is power.
ALLIANCE: Gain the ultimate combat power with Bene Gesserit (Voice + hand knowledge of you opponent is the most powerful ability in the game), but I would advise not to make this alliance, not because it's not strong, it's obviously the strongest, but because it's less fun for opponents as every battle you play take away their control on the game, and this can be VERY frustrating for the other 4 players. Gain the perfect card knowledge with Harkonnen or Ixian (They will know what cards are not seen by your prescience).Gain the market control with Emperor (buying all the good cards, leaving the others to the poor ones).Gain the spice blow monopoly with the Fremen (and be sure to let none to other factions).Other alliances might not be very beneficial to you.
BONUS: Use Karama cards for disabling other powers, because your cunning effect is not that useful once you have a clean note on hand knowledge. I would mostly keep a Karama to instantly buy a powerful card I can't afford since I know I won't waste it. Because the bidding phase is your moment to shine, you can influence other players to spend more or less on a card, by bidding yourself. The player before you just bid 4 and you know it's worthless, bet 6 so the next think it's worth it. You see a great card and bid second, pass this time and hope the bid make another round to make people think this is worthless. Making players spend spice on bad cards is how you get the good ones.
HARKONNEN TIPS
You are the mean antagonist, the space Orcs, and your abilities make players afraid to lose a battle against you, or even fight you at all. You might not have a lot of spice income, but once you can spend a little on treachery cards, you become a killing machine. This faction is train that is harder and harder to stop once it gains speed, but very hard to put back on rails if stopped once (I find this faction to be the most unforgiving)
SETUP: Stay in Carthag with your troops until you have enough resources to fight. If a spice blow is near, you can take a small number of troops to harvest it. But if you leave it with too little troops, you might lose it. Buy 1 or 2 cards on the first auction, so your hand is almost full, you will have options, or at least make people afraid of fighting you.
INCOME: Win battles! If you win battle, you harvest the spice of the killed leaders. And if you don't capture a leader, you send it to the tanks for 2 spice. So winning your battles is your way of gaining a lot of spice, as well as suppressing lot of enemy leaders. You don't even need spice to get your leaders back if you capture some of your enemies. You can also look for spice blows, but splitting your army is risky because without army to win battles, you lack income, and without income, you can't heal/deploy your army back. Every victory is a heavy loss for your opponent if you capture a good leader, so you can also receive bribes to not fight them. You can also sell information on your traitor hand, but that might make you lose power.
COMBAT: You don't have combat ability, so you must bring lot of forces in order to be sure to win. Try attacking players that played before you in storm order so they can't run away from you. Focus on faction with traitors you own, for an easy fight without sacrifice. You don't choose your traitors, but you can bluff enemy players on how to make them pick the leader you want. If you have a low strength traitor, harass this player to make him think you have a traitor of him, so he might avoid using his high strength leaders. If you have a high strength traitor, you can bait this player into attacking you, but be careful to have enough forces to make him use the high strength leader in question. Sometimes you might not call traitor (if you win anyway, if you lose but only 1-2 troops) in order to make the player think his leader is safe against you... but you might not get the chance to call it again, so be careful with this bluff. If you have the Cheap Hero traitor card : Ally with Bene Gesserit for some funny wins (since BG can use the voice to force your opponent or their opponent to use a Cheap Hero card)Without using traitors, you still have lot of treachery cards to assassinate and protect. And Atreides can't really sell info on them to help your opponent.
ALLIANCE: Gain all the money you need to fight with Emperor and Guild (Getting Treachery cards even when you got destroyed can really help you get back on track, it's your golden parachute).Gain the ultimate card knowledge with Atreides, but an even stronger alliance is with Ixians and their ability to setup the best card on the top of the deck for you to get when you buy any card. Gain the Traitor monopole with Bene Theilaxu (up to 7 leaders out of 20, that's a third of you opponents leaders that they "can't" play, this is very frightening), and it's also an economic faction that will help you. Gain some help in battle with the Bene Gesserit, but unless you have the Cheap Hero traitor card, it's not the best choice, you will lack income. On the other hand, having the voice in battle is always helpful. I don't see any reason to have an alliance with Fremen.
BONUS: You can use a Karama card to force a treachery card exchange, this can be used in 2 ways : Exchange worthless cards with your Bene Gesserit ally, or exchange your worthless cards with an enemy (except BG) that is not in an alliance with Atreides, in order to mess with the note of the later. Once the Atreides player has 2-3 unknown cards (in addition to your bonus cards), your hand is a mystery to him, and you can really surprise him. You can also simply use a Karama to steal a Poison blade or a Shield Snooper from another player in order to win even more combats. And if using a Karama card gets you a free card during bidding for someone, for you this is 2 free cards, so it’s worth it.
EMPEROR TIPS
You are not the enemy people see in battle, but you are the puppet master pulling the strings. Your lack of fancy abilities is why you pay players to do the dirty job for you. Use your large amount of spice to bribe the game in your favor in order to strike when you really need to. Patience is your second-best ally, the first one being money.
SETUP: Don't do much at the beginning. You don't have to be on the planet, you don't have to combat early, you can take Habbanya Ridge Sietch if you like but don't need at first.
INCOME: Make the bids go high ! Your income may be passive, you should be active during the bidding phase. Try to never have your hand full, in order to be able to bid, and raise the price a little higher. If only one player can bid, it's only 1 spice for you, so be the other buyer that tries to steal that card. And if you pay the Atreides to know the card, it's even more realistic if you try to have the card and it will make the opponent want it even more. Remember that the spice you spend is even more spice you don't get. Once in an alliance, you can have the help of your ally to influence the auction. And if your hand is full but have a cards can be used instantly (Ghola, Truthtrance,...) you can use it to free a hand slot and manipulate the auction again. Keeping the other players poor is your way to victory.
COMBAT: You have the advantage in battle, your Sardaukars, and your spice. You can "doomstack" on a territory and be sure to win even with your leader killed (and if you dial high enough to win like that, don't put your best leader in battle, it would be a shame to lose it for nothing). But your best option is to make players kill each other’s by bribing them, and then get the strongholds once their remaining forces are low. Just because you are rich, does not mean you should waste your spice. One last thing people often forget about spacing guild, is that you can ship from Dune to Dune, this can be an opportunity for you to get 2 stronghold with 10 forces each on 1 turn, and at the end of every players round, ship 9 of them to a 3rd stronghold for the win on an easy target.
ALLIANCE: Gain the fancy power you don't have with any faction that is not economic and allow them to shine with your spice. Or you could even ally with another economic faction and crush the other players with your wealth, but that's not always the best strategy. In general, players will ask YOU for an alliance so pick the one you prefeis in best position for the win.
BONUS: You can use a Karama card to get troops back (or a Leader but that's less valuable), that is only useful if you failed something (or got a traitor card played on you) and need to get back on your feet, but it's even more impactful if you prevent a fancy combat ability to bring others to your level and beat them with spice.
GUILD TIPS
You are the French policeman of this game, you maintain order and prevent players from taking too much power, but if you like you can shoot their eyes and explode their hands to take the win for yourself. Your control of the turn order makes you able to slow down some players that might win. This is a very valuable power but also your only (besides, of course, being rich).
SETUP: With only 5 forces in Tuek’s Sietch, you might want to reinforce, but you can also wait and see if someone tries to attack you. With only 5 spice at the beginning, it can be difficult to have a lot of treachery cards, but after turn 1 you might have more to spend.
INCOME: Make them fight! You don't have a lot of control over your main source of income, since if you attack someone to make him ship reinforcement, you also lose spice in the process, you can't really take advantage or your own combats with such a low revival rate. But influencing players into fighting each other’s (by bribing or just convincing them) is great for busyness.
COMBAT: You have the lowest strength leaders, you must "doomstack" if you want to win, by bringing lot of forces and paying them with your spice, so even if you don't kill the opponent leader you still win. On the bright side, your leaders are so bad and you are so underestimated that they might never be a traitor (except if Harkonnen drew some, or if they are facedancers).
ALLIANCE: Gain the fancy power you don't have with any faction that is not economic and allow them to shine with your spice. Or you could even ally with another economic faction and crush the other players with your wealth, but that's not always the best strategy (unless maybe Bene Tleilaxu, that can help other players to get back more troops to ship and benefit you both, but no need to be allies for him to do so). In general, player will ask YOU for an alliance so pick the one you prefeis in best position for the win. One alliance is particularly great in order to win with your alternative victory condition: Bene Gesserit. You can use your ability to go first to put 1 troop against someone in a stronghold, so no one else can attack him, in order to "protect" him against someone that might want to win this turn. The Bene Gesserit can also do the same by flipping an advisor. Together you can hold some strongholds in stasis in order to stall until the end of turn 10.
BONUS: Your cunning effect of a Karama card is one of the best! Preventing a player from shipping this turn can turn a perfect winning plan into a waste of spice if they all in elsewhere. But like the emperor, you can prevent a fancy combat ability to bring others to your level and beat them with spice.
BENE GESSERIT TIPS
You are the ninja of this game, staying in the shadow until you want to strike, and Leto II knows you strike very hard. The hardest faction to play, and the strongest (judging by its win rate). You have lots of very fancy abilities that can really turn a game in your favor, but in beginners’ hand they might not get you anywhere. These tips are the hardest to write because there are so many things to be said about this faction, and yet not a single easy receipt for victory.
SETUP: With 1 advisor wherever you want, you might want to target a stronghold, and maybe one where there will be lot of shipping (Carthag or Arakeen for example). At turn 1, you don't really care about keeping spice for shipping or fighting, don't think about it until turn 3. You are 5+2 spice at the first round, and you want weapons and defenses to kill leaders with your voice. You begin as the 4th most fortunate player, so buying a card can be crucial in turn 1, because after some spice harvesting and battles, you might end up the poorest. And since no card is really worthless to you, you risk nothing by bidding blindly during auction.
INCOME: It's complicated! 2 spice per turn with CHOAM Charity can't be your only source, you need alternative ways of earning spice. First and most obvious, is combat, because the voice can make you 100% sure to kill the opponent leader, and if you also win, you get the spice from it. But there is also another way to use your abilities for money: You can threaten a player and expect spice for not executing the threat. For example, you can say to a player "I could flip my 5 advisors for the movement phase, and then you will have to fight me and spend a lot of spice into this combat, or you can bribe me a little less so I won't do it this turn". Or make players pay for your services, with the opposite mechanic "if you pay me 5 spice I flip this advisor to a warrior and leave the territory at the end of my turn, so the [insert a faction playing before you] cannot attack you here". This can be quite complicated to pull, but you may find a lot of creative ways to make spice out of your powers. If you manage to take Carthag or Arakeen, this also could be your solution for your lack of spice and mobility.
COMBAT: Your best field is the battlefield. If you manage to get even 1 weapon, you become a killing machine, and if you have a poison blade or a shield snooper, you are the ultimate killing machine (and don't even need Atreides to be sure to kill the opponent leader without losing yours). If you manage to remember some cards played in previous battles, you can be very creative with your voice, by making them play worthless cards in order to choose between playing a weapon or a defense, or making them play a worthless hero so you only have to protect your leader. You can also bluff (especially at the beginning of the game) to make players thing you can kill their leaders ("don't play a poison defense") when you don't even have a weapon, in order to make them play a low strength leader and have a chance to win anyway. But don't prevent an enemy from playing a type of defense, if you have a high strength traitor of your opponent, because if they know their leader is going to die, they will sacrifice a low strength one. Speaking of traitor, the cheap hero traitor card is a great pick if you have it in your starting hand, this can lead to very funny battles against armies if you manage to know who has a cheap hero treachery card. Sometimes, if you are sure to win a fight and know some cards if you opponent’s hand, you might force them to play a specific card you can counter (like a projectile weapon) in order to make them lose it.
ALLIANCE: Gain the ultimate combat power with Atreides (Voice + hand knowledge of your opponent is the most powerful ability in the game), but I would advise not to make this alliance, not because it's not strong, it's obviously the strongest, but because it's less fun for opponents as every battle you play take away their control on the game, and this can be VERY frustrating for the other 4 players. Gain the leader eraser alliance with the Harkonnen (that can remove 2 leaders per combat with the right treachery cards). The rest of the alliances might not benefit you very much, but since you have the best alliance power, player will ask YOU for an alliance so pick the one you prefeis in best position for the win.
BONUS: You have a very funny alternative victory condition, that I will try to give tips about. Ixians, Atreides, Harkonnen and Fremen can have an early win (turn 3-5) since they start with strongholds and have great combat abilities. Guilde, Emperor, Bene Thleilaxu on the other hand, may not win before turn 5. As for the rest, it's more about the players than the factions. Aim for the most experimented, and on a not too early turn. Once you set your prediction, you have two ways: 1. Wait for an alliance (that's why you don't set it too early, once in an alliance you have twice more chances of successful prediction on the faction), focus the alliance you prediction is not in, and hope the faction you predicted come out on top after your battles. For this to happen, you can influence a bit in its favor the same way the Guild can prevent a player from winning: you can protect the stronghold they own by flipping an advisor and leaving after your turn. 2. Ally with the faction you predicted (my favorite strategy, but not the easiest), and try to win normally but on your predicted turn, so you can steal the victory away from you ally and win 1v5 mouhahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahaha If you play against a Bene Gesserit player, that can be fun to ask them if the faction they are in an alliance with is part of their winning condition. If they answer yes, their ally may become paranoid if they are about to win, and if they say no, their ally might lose trust. But your prediction is not only useful to steal a victory, but also to prevent a victory with a good bluff. You see someone going for the win this turn and can’t really win one of the battle ? If it’s not the last battle, you can say “I don’t use the voice” and never say why, the player might think that’s you let him win in order to fulfill your prediction, and might throw this battle or the next one just in case.About shipping advisors, it’s better to not go all overs the board, focus only on 2-3 strongholds because if you even have 2 advisors on each, it’s already half your army that is split.Your ability to avoid combat when another faction enters a territory you are in makes you the best at keeping tech tokens, so going tech token hunting during the game can be an excellent strategy.
BENE TLEILAXU TIPS
You are spider that waits for its web to trigger, you are patience, you are scary, you are Bene Tleilaxu. Your face dancers presence makes every fight dangerous.
SETUP: Wait. You don’t need to rush anything; you can wait until you have good treachery cards. Some people try to force combat at the beginning to make enemies lose troop and start your economy, but you might lose your tech token, so I won’t advise it unless you are sure to win the combat.
INCOME: Make them fight! Same as the Guild, you win more spice if the other players fight each other’s. But you can also increase the number of troops your enemies can revive, and allow them to revive their leaders early, and you can make them pay for it. Leverage this favor for spice, or information. Your face dancers are another source of information that can be sold, these are “safe” leaders from traitors, and you can see a lot of them during the game. Keep track of them and if you see a high strength leader, you might want to keep it.
COMBAT: You can wait until a face dancer is revealed, or you can put troops yourself. Zoal is a tricky leader to use, but his simple presence in your roaster will make your enemies paranoid when fighting you. Bluff about your hand, your ability to kill your enemy leader and make them think you will play Zoal, and they might use a low strength leader against you to minimize the spice you will gain. If you manage the early leader revivals of your enemies well, they might only have good strength leader to put into battle. Since you don’t have fancy combat abilities, make your stronghold difficult to take by reinforcing them with lot of troops. You can always use them to replace another army after a face dancer reveal, if needed.
ALLIANCE: Gain the Traitor monopole with Harkonnen (up to 7 leaders out of 20, that's a third of your opponents’ leaders that they "can't" play, this is very frightening). Moreover, you can offer to early revive opponent leader that are you ally traitors for even more treacheries. An alliance with the Bene Gesserit could be good if you have the Cheap Hero Traitor card, but other than that there is not much synergy here (It’s always nice to have the voice in combat, but will you combat often ?) Or you could even ally with another economic faction and crush the other players with your wealth, but that's not always the best strategy (unless maybe the Guild, since you can help other players to get back more troops to ship and benefit you both, and the more troops you allow to be back on the planet, the longer the game last). In general, players will ask YOU for an alliance so pick the one you prefeis in best position for the win.
BONUS: You can use a Karama card to prevent a player from doing revival can be strong against the Emperor (and their alliance), but in the end it’s your source of income, and that might not change a lot.If you draw a face dancer from your faction, or the cheap hero, you will want to discard them at the mantat phase. But keep this information, it might become useful for you. Once you reveal a face dancer, this leader is in the tanks and on the next turn, you can revive it (if you have less than 5 leaders) to enjoy a safe leader on your side.
IXIANS TIPS
You are the rich kid that has all the fancy toys before everyone else in middle school. You start hard and need to focus on staying at the top before other factions get their moment to shine. You can’t take notes like the Atreides, so you must focus to remember the cards you see, and the cards played by other players, in order to take advantage of your starting card (or in case you even get in an alliance with the Atreides to complete his notes in order to know the full hand of everybody).
SETUP: Out of the 6 cards you will see, you can look for a couple of them that might be the most helpful. The poison blade and the shield-snooper are the best attack/defense of the treachery deck. But a simple projectile weapon can be as deadly if there are no shields in the other 5 cards. So even if there are no special treachery cards, you can try to maximize your efficiency in combat by keeping track of the potential defenses from your cards. And at every auction, you can put away one of the cards that might cause you trouble. Keeping this “monopoly” on what can counter you is the best way to keep your starting advantage long enough to win. A weapon “monopoly” is better than a defense “monopoly” for you. Then you place your Hidden Mobile Stronghold (IMS), away from Carthag and Arakeen so no one can ship there, steal Ornithopters and get into your IMS. The first key to keep it is to make it expensive to get into. One of your first target might be the Fremen, to steal their tech token, and since they have so little spice, they might not get a lot or treachery cards to defends themselves against you at first.
INCOME: Vacuum it hard! Your IMS is the main source of spice for your faction, but sometimes you will have to get some alternative income since you won’t always be 3 territories away from remaining spice. You could make deals with other spice harvesters, but they might not let you. Protecting your IMS is crucial to keep your spice income. This is where killing heroes come handy and having great treachery cards is a nice advantage.
COMBAT: If you get the right set of cards in the starting 6 and can put aside the right one on the first auction, your combat will be easy since you can kill enemy leader for sure (because you know that you can waste less troop in dial if you don’t have to worry about the enemy leader). You also have the Cyborg/suboid mechanic to reduce the cost of battles. To make it simple, use your cyborg only in battle, but ship 1 suboid for each cyborg you put in battle to absorb the loss. So, to fight with 8, you ship 4 cyborg and 4 suboid, pay 4 spice for the cyborg, and only lose 4 suboid if you lose. The first turn is difficult for everyone because they have so little spice to dial high, you won’t need that many cyborgs.
ALLIANCE: Gain some overwhelming cyborg revivals (3) with the Fremen faction (and together you can share the spice blows each turn in order to maintain control over spice income). Or ally with the emperor to make him pay to resurrect 3 more cyborgs, or the Tleilax to only pay them half price.Gain the perfect card knowledge with Atreides, or on the opposite, because the perfect counter to Atreides by allying with the Harkonnens (giving them the best cards on the top of the deck).Gain a better advantage in battle with Bene Gesserit, if you don’t fear being broke. Gain some economic support from the Guild, but you might both be better with someone else.
BONUS: You can use a Karama card to move your IMS, but it's even more impactful if you prevent a fancy combat ability to bring others to your level and beat them with better treachery cards.

2023.06.05 15:02 UltimateTraders 6/5/2023 Daily Plays I am an vacation until the weekend, been about 8 years! VLY upgraded PYPL coming back for me, down again on CVNA I did try AI as it spiked Friday near 37!? UPST back to 30+? OSUR back to 6? Too bad I didnt buy M premarket under 12.50! Still eyeing AAL after revise up
Good morning everyone. I am actually on vacation since yesterday. This is the first vacation since 2015. I actually don’t enjoy traveling much as I have things I must set in place first. Nothing is wrong with it, I feel like people need enjoyment and a reset, but I want to assure my passive income is extremely high before I start taking any breaks. I am with someone that enjoys vacations, so many times in life we must compromise and make sacrifices. For this week I will be trading/come on Reddit sporadically as we may be site seeing or doing activities where I wont have access to trading/quotes/reddit. As such I may not post “Daily Plays” if there is a major activity. They will also be shorter this week but I wanted people to know why…The market has been difficult this year, so maybe a week break is good for me. I haven’t traded as much in 2023 because stocks are working opposite of actual execution.
On Friday I did try AI puts as it started to rally past 35-36. The low was 30. The company was coming off of bad earnings and even bad guidance. It is easy to tell this stock has been up all on hype/speculation and no real execution. I will still look to it, if it rallies. Unfortunately for me I have CVNA puts for several weeks now and didn’t take profits when I had them. In my defense the highest I was up was near 25% CVNA August puts with a 10 Strike. I still have time but I could have done this trade a few time and opened fresh puts with a lower entry….This is why it is always better to take profits than hold out. You can always sell in increments, most of the time, I would say 95% of the time if you are watching the market daily you will have a chance to get back in a stock you sold… This is if you are watching daily. If not, I can understand why people buy and swing trade. PYPL I have owned several weeks since 64, it is hard to time the bottom and I hope I can trade in at out for 50 cents to a dollar, I have 500 shares. UPST rallied near 30 again, but I will be around sporadically. I have 1,000 OSUR at 6.30, this company smashed earnings hit a 52 week and get crushed to 4.75…. coming back for me! I was indeed thinking M shares and maybe calls as it hit a low near 12.30 Premarket Friday. I am still watching AAL. I did see it hit 14.40 a day after a revise up on earnings. VLY which is a bank with a PE ratio under 10 and a dividend yield of 6% is a super defensive bank. If it wasn’t for the bank collapse I would be all in. I still like NYCB and NWBI but I have been scared because of FRC and PACW.
5 Trade ideas: I may not be trading much
PYPL – I am in 64 and looking for 50 cents to a dollar
UPST – will this trash fly over 30?
VLY- upgraded bank
AAL – They revised up, if this gets cheap again
AI – 35+? For puts?

2023.06.05 15:01 KennyLowOnline That's... Not Elliot.
I used to have a friend named Elliot. Me and Elliot used to be the best of friends, but we couldn't have been more different. I was a confident, Straight A student. Elliot was shy and had ADHD, so he basically had the attention span of a doorknob.
Each day after school, me and Elliot would go to a near by wood to explore. We'd make up somesilly little make-believe play like Lost Pirates or Adventurous Explorers. We were just kids.
I used to sit next to Elliot in class. He refused to sit anywhere else because he had intesnce anxiety. The teacher didn't mind.
One day, 10 minutes before class started, Elliot arrived to class and sat down next to me. We were in 3rd grade at the time. Usually, Elliot would ask me for the maths homework or ask me to explain the German assignment to him. But that day he came, with his head hanging low. He sat down next to me, quiet as a mouse. "What's up?" I asked, trying to start a conversation. He didn't respond. He didn't talk to me for the entire day. Ignored me, even. Finally, he spoke to me
Just before class ended, Elliot whisper to me. "Today...let's play Hide and Seek in the woods." "Oh...ok. why though? Didn't you say you didn't like to play hide and seek in case you get lost?" I asked, puzzled by his sudden words. "I want to."
School ended and we both headed towards the woods. The woods didn't really have any dangerous animals, but it was dense and a 3rd grader could easily get lost. When we got there, we threw our bags of and ran into the trees. We did a rock-paper-scissors match to decide who would seek. Elliot lost and became the Seeker.
I know it sounds strange, but I feel like Elliot purposely lost. When I pulled out paper, Elliot stopped for a second, before taking out rock. But at the time, I didn't mind. I didn't want to Seek.
The first 2 rounds, I was caught pretty quickly. For some reason Elliot refused to Hide and let me be the Seeker. Again, I didn't really care.
"I'm bored. You're so easy of find, with you big, fat head." Elliot said. "Well, why don't you hide for a chan-" "No." Elliot said firmly. "Hiding is no fun. Let's go deeper in the woods. Deeper then before. Somewhere unfimiliar, where I would have a harder time seeking you."
Elliot wasn't like this. He didn't like to brake any boundaries, he was a scared, shy little boy.
"Who are you and what did you do to my friend?" I joked. "I'm Mr. Nobody" he said in a voice which was ment to be funny but, just sounded serious and blank.
He grabbed my hand started to run deeper into the woods. Taking wierd turns and twist. I yelled at him to stop. "How are we supposed to get out of this, you idiot?!"
"Relax" he said, stoping at a tree. I don't know why, but I felt like like he was looking for this exact tree. It was the broadest and tallest there. "Go hide. Now." It was more of a demand then anything. He hid his face towards the tree and started to count backwards from 100. I ran in the direction we came in. If was going to hide, it was as near to home as I could. I managed to retrace pretty much the entire route back, and hid behind a boulder where I usually hid.
Suddenly, I felt as though I couldn't trust Elliot. He was strange and cold and seemed very intent on going deeper, where if we get lost, we could barely find eachother, let alone our way back home. It didn't feel like the sweet, shy Elliot I became friends with. I was glad I decided to hide close to home. I knew I was a long way from Elliot, but thats what made me feel safe.
5 minutes turned into 10, 10 turned into 15. Nearly an hour had passed. Elliot hadn't found me. I'm nor sure If was glad or not. Suddenly I heard a distant yell calling my name "KENN? KENNY? KENNY!" It was Elliot. I yelled back. Again and again. About half an hour of screaming and yelling eachothers names. I found Ell. He was covered in dirt and blood and was limping. One of the lens of his glasses had fallen out, the other was broken.
He crying still telling my name. He jumped into my arms and sobbed. I started to cry aswell. I put Elliot's arm around me and supported him out of the forest. I wasnt lost physically, I was lost mentally. Emotionally.
We didn't talk about the incidence for months.
Elliot lost sight from his left eye. The doctor's had no idea how. When I finally did ask El about the incidence, he told me that made my heart sink. "I wasn't me. It was you. You dragged me to that tree and told me to Seek. You kept telling me you wanted to hide. But I know it wasn't you. You were not ... Yourself."
Apparently we both were having some kind of hallucination. There was something that wanted us to get lost. And that something would have succeed if I had done what it wanted, and had gone deeper in.
Since then, both me And Ell have been having serious blackouts, not knowing what either of us been doing for the past hour or so. Its like that thing is still trying to control us. Control our life. I've moved out and now live in Canada far from my home town. Elliot shifter to Germany to continue his studies. We still keep in contact. Every week or so, we talk about the incidence trying to figure out what was happening.
I think In a way, that thing really did succeed. We never been so lost before.

2023.06.05 14:54 ImmortalJormund Final Ember of the Afterglow
Captain Khan of the UNISG second task force leaned on a windowsill and sighed. In the building ahead, the large greyish white apartment block, their enemy laid low somewhere. The famed stalker Strelok, who had been assigned as Khan's bounty target by his employers. When UNISG, the original one led by Major Hernandez, was liquidated, to Khan's dismay they had uncovered very little actual information he needed. But Strelok? He had been an advisor for official Ukrainian state researchers, and if the stories were true, he knew more about it than anyone else. Capturing him would be a jackpot, and Khan desperately needed one. His unit was a mere shadow of its former self, the blasted Redeemed had killed so many of his men, even his second-in-command Clarke had died in those reed-covered swamps by the crimson-armoured bastards.
Not that Khan really cared. Only Clarke and Bauer had been long-time co-workers of his, pushing along the Belt and Road initiative in Central Asia and dealing with potential hiccups in a very subtle ways, or running heavy-handed security on the mines owned by their benefactors in Asia. But neither was someone he considered a friend, in this line of work such was rare, and Khan was here merely to make money. The rewards were astronomical, but trapped here in an empty city, their allies having abandoned them and no clear way out even if Strelok was caught, Khan was beginning to wonder if those rewards were worth all this.
His clients wanted to gather as much information of the Zone and possibly blackmail Ukrainian authorities into co-operation, but every passing day a successful mission seemed less likely. Still, Khan was not one to give in so easily, he would see the mission through out of sheer boneheaded determination. Growing up in the vast and harsh Mongol steppe had not made him a quitter, and he had earned the nickname Khan among his peers for a reason. Khan sighed as Sergeant Němec entered the room to inform him of the squad being ready. Nine men left alongside Khan. They would have to be enough, for he did not know if their mysterious allies would ever return. Taking his rifle, Khan followed his Czech sergeant downstairs to begin the mission of a lifetime.
Not far from the UNISG hideout, Redemption squad that had caused them so much harm was on the move. And while Khan was not aware of his survival, the greatest menace to UNISG so far marched on with them. Never in his, admittedly short life, had Dimka been anticipating a fight this much. All the feelings of being tricked, betrayed and used built up to a crescendo of wrath boiling inside him, and Dimka could feel himself bursting from seams. Finally, after all this hide and seek bullshit, Dimka would face Khan in battle and hopefully kill him, avenging his fallen comrades and perhaps allowing him to find some information that made him, Sevka and Maus free men once more. Yet now was not the time to get all giddy with excitement over it, getting to that point would require winning the battle rapidly drawing closer.
"Dimka, you alright? You look a bit, eh, anxious.", Sanyok asked, walking beside Dimka.
"Sorry, it's just... We are so close to getting some closure. It's been so long that I've held my breath, being sure I would never leave the Zone alive."
"Ah, makes sense. Reminds me of the battle against Sin at the Generators, so much at stake...", Sanyok reminisced.
"And I missed it because of some Sin fucker decided to smash my arm to pieces! Suka blyat!", Dimuha groaned.
"You did get to mastermind a jailbreak of a century afterwards. And shoot bandits, which is super fun.", Dima noted.
"Aye, giving Livid the good news was satisfying, but had I been there at War Lab, perhaps... Perhaps Micha would still be alive.", Dimuha sighed, and Dimka could feel a shift in the group's mood.
"No, you would not. None of us knew what would happen there, and we all knew Micha's fate could have been our own. Had you been in his stead, we would still be inside that spatial anomaly.", Boris explained, and Dimuha seemed to ponder on it for a second before hesitantly nodding.
"Past is not something to dwell on too much. Hindsight is a wonderful tool but also a trap of thoughts and hypotheticals.", Meeker chimed in, having marched in silence beforehand.
"Robot man is right. There's things I'd wish I had done differently, but ultimately there's little we can change. Sometimes the best we can do is take heed from those events.", Rogue remarked.
"Indeed. And make those responsible pay.", Boris muttered quietly.
They continued on in silence, the conversation having turned sour for many of the veterans of the northern campaign. Dimka took the chance a look around him more carefully now, given that this could be one his last days in the Zone. They were travelling down an overgrown road, building blocks reaching for the clouds around them. A couple vehicles had been abandoned by the roadwalks, including a bright yellow DU-47 paving machine. Weirdly enough, moss had began to grow on parts of it, even those seemingly completely metallic. The Zone's flora was a wonder in itself, and especially out here in the Pripyat it seemed to take bizarre forms. Dimka felt some sadness about leaving, this truly was the frontier he had always wanted to find. But he had duties elsewhere... Or at least, he thought he had. Perhaps they would turn him into a desk jockey after this epic of a failure, Dimka pondered.
The scenery changed to a small park. There was interesting, cacophonic statue standing on a yard of a tall and dilapidated building. It was made with the finest Soviet visual styles, meaning it was as blocky as a gopnik's Lada and almost as filled to the brim with depression and broken vodka bottles. Boris signaled for everyone to spread out, and Dimka joined Sevka and Meeker on the left flank. They moved quickly through the bushy area, passing by a couple blind dog corpses. The gunshot wounds on them indicated that either Strelok's entourage had finished them off or the uninvited guests had made their way here before Redemption. Thankfully the former turned out to be the case, as a man in Sunrise/exosuit hybrid waved his hand at them. Seeing Rogue and Stitch among the squad, the man breathed a sigh of relief.
"Thank the Zone, we thought you were goners. Quickly, come inside, Strelok is on the second floor.", the man said.
"We're not that easy to kill. Ran into a few hiccups on the way, that's all.", Rogue replied.
"Like locking yourself into a metal closet.", Dima mocked.
"Alright Kamaz, let the others in but keep this one out. He is a threat to our sanity above all else.", Rogue ordered, and the stalker acting as welcoming committee scoffed.
After some back and forth insults and jokes, the entire group, Dima included, made it inside. Boris ordered Dimuha, Dimka and Dima with him to Strelok's hideout. On the way, Dimka noted that the legendary stalker seemed to only have two men with him, the Kamaz fellow at the door and Yakut, a man in a SEVA suit, guarding another entry into the building. Strelok was not a fan of security, or just confident in his abilities, then, Dimka wondered. On the second floor, Boris led them into a room where Strelok was sitting on an antique, ruined sofa. Dimka was quite surprised at seeing the legend himself, the man was nothing extraordinary by the looks. In fact, had Dimka ran into him in the Big Land, he would've probably taken the man for some lowlife, given his scrawny appearance.
"Boris! I am glad to see you again. I heard Rogue and Stitch got here alright, yet the international agent problem persists?", Strelok asked.
"Indeed. And on top of that, there is a Secret Service force looking for us and them here in the city. Led by Degtyarev of all people.", Boris answered, and Strelok's expressionless face contorted.
"I see. I'm fairly certain he isn't here only because of the interlopers. He's here to bring me back to the Institute.", Strelok sighed.
"Care to elaborate? What beef do you have?", Dima questioned.
"I deserted my post there. Too much oversight yet too little reaction to when I notified the higher ups of alarming development. The complacency of Ukrainian Ministry of the Zone of Alienation is incredible, I warned them years ago that the source of emissions could be utilized as a weapon and they repeatedly denied funding to an expedition to find it. So I took matters to my own hands. I am sure Alexander would have approved personally, but he also has to fulfill his duties. Now, it seems that those duties have brought him to capture me.", Strelok explained.
"If so, you can trust on us to keep your back. I respect the Colonel, but you and I are stalkers while he is a jarhead.", Boris said in a solemn tone, but Dimka did wonder that part of this declaration had to also be related to the two UNISG fugitives within the ranks of Redemption.
"I thank you, Boris, you are as steadfast ally as ever. I hope it does not come to violence, but if we must face him in battle, then so be it. But now, let us prepare for those... UNISG, was it?", Strelok said, and they quickly formed a plan based on Dimka's insight of Khan's character, Strelok's knowledge of the surrounding terrain and Dimuha's battle instinct.
Twenty minutes later orders were barked and battle stations mounted, but just as they were rushing towards the battlefield, an announcement on PDA network made all of the group's devices beep. Pulling out his PDA, Dimka looked at the message and a picture next to it. The SSU cross clearly visible on it, the message ordered Redemption and Strelok's group to stand down as the building was surrounded. Dimka shot a glance outside, seeing men in dark blue Berill and Skat suits mount up weapon's nests and sniping spots.
"Chyort, they got here faster than expected!", Boris shouted in anger and frustration.
"There's a launcher on them, get down!", came a shout from Yakut downstairs.
"This is your last chance. Surrender now and you will face no charges of treason.", Colonel Degtyarev's voice rang in the cold morning air.
"Do we resist? What do we do now?", Sanyok asked.
"Hold the line. Strelok, get the hell out of here, he wants you captured, but we may be able to bargain with him. Rogue, Stitch, Kamaz and Yakut, cover his ass.", Boris ordered.
"But the place is surrounded!", Kamaz protested.
"Not the tunnels below. I used them once before, and I checked this place before. There is an access hatch here. Stalkers, on me, we'll flee for now. Boris, I cannot thank you enough.", Strelok said, gratitude strong in his voice, and Boris only nodded.
"What now?", Dimka queried, looking anxiously at the outside.
"Now, we go out there and convince him that it's not worth his while to be fighting us.", Boris said, grinning, and Dimka gulped.
"That's in-...", he started, but the exoskeleton frame of Boris had already disappeared through the door.
Dimka watched Boris walk over the courtyard. The SSU agents pointed their guns at him, but lowered them once the familiar helmetless Skat-wearing man stepped between them. Degtyarev looked at Boris disapprovingly, as the hiss of his exoskeleton servos and powerpack faded between the husks of buildings. Boris raised his hand as nonchalantly as possible, stopping on his tracks a couple metres from the line of various special operative weapons.
"Good morning, Colonel.", Boris greeted.
"I presume you've come to surrender.", the secret service agent said, raising his eyebrow.
"Not really. You see, we were sitting here, on a picnic, and then you decided to pop in and ruin the fun. How very rude.", Boris replied in a mockinly paternalistic tone.
"Cut the crap, Boris. You disobeyed my orders, breaking the agreement we made in Zaton. And now you're actively helping a fugitive. I know you and Strelok have history, but me taking him back to the Institute is for the best of us all.", Degtyarev said, infuriated.
"I broke the agreement? Colonel, we agreed to be allies. Then you spat on that by telling me that my men were no longer welcome, after we had fought and bled for your cause. We have been nothing but loyal this entire time, yet we are discarded us the second we had done our task.", Boris retaliated.
"It was becoming harder and harder to keep it under wraps, especially when I had to bail your man out from Zhurov's custody. He lost a lot of good men in Cordon, I was in boiling hot water afterwards. But you are right, I should have been less blunt about it. And I apologize. But I also know you are stalling. As a sign of goodwill, hand over Strelok and your men can return to Meadow unharmed.", Degtyarev proclaimed.
"No deal. Strelok himself told us that he was merely shackled by the Institute, not allowed to combat threats to the Zone and Ukraine due to big shots withdrawing funding. Yet ever since coming to the Zone, he has led an effective raid against the resurgent Monolith, blocked Sin's grand plan and is now allowing us to finally cut down UNISG by voluntarily acting as bait.", Boris countered, adding the last point as a little white lie.
"That may be true, but I have my orders, orders which I have had to bend far too much already. I'm sorry, but it has to be this way.", Degtyarev sighed.
"Then it must. Cut me down then, for I will not abandon my allies. Unlike you.", Boris spat, and he could see even Degtyarev's facade of calm splinter slightly as he flinched at the insult.
Boris held his breath, knowing that death was staring at him from the rifle barrels of Degtyarev's men. The colonel hesitated, torn between duty to the government and personal feelings towards the inhabitants of the Zone. It was as if he was reconsidering the entire fabric of his being, and what he had actually been sent to the Zone to do. Boris would never learn what his decision had been, as the rightmost SSU agent was struck by a bullet cracking his helmet open. Two grenades landed on the feet of the group, and Boris lunged onward by instinct, kicking one of them further away. The blast from the other one tossed him to the side, his Absolver armour sheltering him and the special forces operators from worst of the blast. They were disoriented and stunned by the explosion, however, and gunfire rained on them. Two more SSU agents died, when Boris began pushing them towards the building, out of the fire.
"It's UNISG, they found us!", Boris shouted over the fire as the six survivors of the ambush darted across the yard towards the building.
Sniper fire struck the ground around them, and finally the foes showed themselves. Two UNISG troopers from Khan's squad, clad in looted Monolith Nosorog armour, jerked upwards from a nearby basement and began advancing. Their movements betrayed inexperience with exoskeletons, moving too quick and risking injuries to themselves or others around them, but the venerable armours would still protect them greatly. Dimuha led a charge out of the building block to buy some time for the retreating SSU, Sanyok and Sevka blasting at the UNISG stormtroopers while Dimka, Dima and Meeker kept the heads of the snipers down. The Nosorog battleplates took a beating, but given that their armour was thicker than a renegade with brain damage, they continued on unhampered. One flicked the launcher sight on his rifle and took aim, Dimka realizing a second too late what he was attempting to do.
"Grenade, spread out!", he screamed, but just that second he saw one of the SSU agent's Skat armour take a direct hit.
Dustcloud settled over the entire yard, and gunfire continued. Through it, Boris emerged to the half-circle formed by Dimuha's trio, dragging Degtyarev behind him. Another SSU agent limped out of the blast zone as well, holding a butchered but alive operator alift. Rest of the UNISG force had appeared, and they now pushed over the yard. Dimuha's armour took a hit, yet he soldiered on despite a broken rib and kept shooting at the advancing Nosorog pair. One of his shots lodged itself between the ceramic plates, keeping enough momentum to break through and strike the man's heart. Sergeant Němec breathed his last sigh and fell down.
"Fall back inside, we can't fight them in the open at this state!", Boris ordered as Degtyarev started to come back to his senses.
"We were fools, letting ourselves get ambushed like this.", the colonel muttered.
"Well you are special forces, alright.", Dimuha growled and shot his last burst as the machine gun ran dry.
They stumbled inside, where Meeker took the wounded SSU trooper further in for emergency treatment. Seeing the ex-Monolithian after such a long time, Degtyarev gave him a slight nod and Meeker smiled faintly. The others took positions on the windows, trying to remain in cover while the building was peppered by bullets. Dimka tried to spot Khan among the attackers, but the swarm of angry lead mosquitoes made it difficult. The lone Nosorog trooper lumbered on, struggling to control the suit. Boris told Dimka to focus on him with the Vykhlop, given that it had the best chance of punching through, while the others kept pressure on the other infiltrators zigzagging between cover towards the defences.
Dimka did as ordered, waiting for the agent to make a mistake. He was clever about using cover, only exposing himself for a brief second, but his inexperience with the large machine wrapped around him showed. When darting between a broken car and the corner of commieblock, his exoskeleton shot upwards with too much force. Shocked momentarily by the strength of the machine, this second of confusion gave Dimka enough time to center the scope. Aiming between the breastplate and Spartan helmet, Dimka squeezed the trigger and felt the kick of his rifle. Blood spurted from the wound, and the man slouched down like a powerless automaton. Yelling triumphantly, Dimka cycled the bolt of his rifle and took another target. With the armoured spearhead of UNISG broken, their attack slowed down, giving the initiative to Redemption.
"Target left, Dima and Sanyok, hose it down. Dimuha, Sevka and Degtyarev, on me, let's counter-attack!", Boris shouted.
"Since when are you ordering SSU officers around, stalker?", the lone surviving SSU trooper asked angrily.
"Since when my men did not run into an ambush and require the assistance of the men they were supposed to arrest.", Boris retorted and Degtyarev groaned.
"We wouldn't be in this situation if you had surrendered.", Degtyarev commented.
"Or if you had allowed us to ambush the UNISG.", Dima replied.
"Shut the hell up, all of you, and let's drive the fuckers back.", Dimuha ordered in turn, and this time everyone shot back into attention, realizing the folly of bickering in the middle of a battle.
Boris' Absolver ran through the dust and smoke, followed by Degtyarev, Sevka and Dimuha coming out of the building guns blazing. Dimka managed to squeeze a shot between car windows into the shoulder of a UNISG rifleman, killing him on the spot. The shoe was in the other foot now, with three heavily armoured stalkers bearing down on the internationals' force, Sevka giving fire support behind the spearhead. Three UN troopers keeled over after a sustained barrage of sniper and shotgun fire, all the while Boris and Dimuha suppressed the others with their machine guns. Degtyarev was not idle either, having used the suppression to flank around using the dense bushes. He was now at the same monument Dimka had admired earlier, and his Abakan racked up a tally of two more spies when he sprung the trap. These two had been hiding behind a rusting hulk of a ZAZ car, when two bursts from the odd rifle struck them down. That was when a pack of blind dogs and pseudodogs burst from the foliage, attacking Boris' group. They had to redirect their fire towards the mutants, with Dima and Sanyok opening up on the last hideout of the remnants of UNISG.
Now, the last two UNISG troopers were visibly panicking. Having expected to smash the defenders in a calculated ambush, they had missed the Redemption squad in the building and paid for it. They took off in a desperate last ditch attempt to escape. Dimka was watching them through his scope, angling for a shot yet failing to get a proper view of them through all the junk and flora dotting the field ahead. He was sure Khan wasn't dead yet, and seeing the battle draw to a close, the hotheaded part of him let loose. Anger gripping him, he left the Vykhlop on the windowsill, grabbed his handguns and stormed out with vengeance on his mind. Dima yelled after him but Dimka was already far ahead, racing across the asphalt to be the one to strike the final blow. Memories of the betrayal, his dead comrades, the framing of his allies as traitors and the attack on the checkpoint in Jupiter flooded to his mind and quickened his pace. Gripping the guns, he made it past Boris, Dimuha and Degtyarev who were still fighting the mutants.
"What the hell are you doing?", Boris shouted to him.
"Getting my payback.", Dimka replied quickly and continued.
He heard Boris shout something more, but more gunshots masked the order. Dimka continued, unwilling to let his most hated adversary escape. The two survivors were running ahead, towards the grocery store, when Dimka opened fire. He was using both guns simultaneously, so the fire was as accurate as that of a drunk bandit, but using the time old classic tactic of "throw enough shit at the wall and some of it will stick", he managed to cut down one of the UNISG troopers. Bullet hole in his back, the man fell down face first like a ragdoll. The last survivor made it inside, jumping over the makeshift barricade and forcing the wooden doors open.
Dimka was hot on the man's heels, and soon stepped inside as well. Turning on his night-vision in the dark corridor, he found the store to be a mess of doors and small rooms. A proper labyrinth. He continued down the corridor, guns trained on any possible ambush location. But the further he went, the more nerve-wracking the experience became. He saw no sign of his enemy, yet every shadow, every dark corner, seemed to hide him. Then, crossing one corridor, three shots rang out and Dimka felt sharp pain surge into his brain like a sledgehammer striking it from the inside. Dimka dropped to his knees, blood flowing down his leg. Khan stepped through the door, where three bullet holes had now appeared on the old wood.
"Torodov? You traitorous bastard, you're helping the enemy?", Khan said in an astonished tone.
"You would know traitors, you lapdog. The blood of my comrades is in your hands.", Dimka growled.
"So? You're soldiers, we're soldiers, our task is to kill one another by any means necessary. You got bested, and now the last of your company of idiots will die.", Khan replied calmly.
"Wrong.", someone else said, and a shotgun blast struck Khan in the centre of his torso, tossing him against the wall.
Sevka stepped out into the corridor and saw Khan attempt to reach for a sidearm despite his grievous wounds. Dimka, wounded and bleeding yet still sound of mind, fired him in the limb. Khan screamed in pain and let go of the pistol.
"It's your company that meets its end here.", Sevka said, and raised the shotgun.
"Perhaps... But... We are not the only ones after Strelok. You'll... see.", Khan replied, barely able to speak due to the agony of his wounds.
Dimka had had enough, and his revolver fired once more. The last of UNISG infiltrators died with a simple sigh and .45 ACP bullet in his skull. Major Hernandez's men, the original unit of Dimka and Sevka, had been avenged. Sevka stepped next to his friend, stuck a stimpack into his arm and bandaged his wound. Once colour began returning to the Bulgarian stalker's cheeks, Sevka sighed and reprimanded his comrade.
"I thought you learned from that scuffle with Skull that rushing off alone gets you killed."
"I'm a slow learner, alright?", Dimka argued, grinning.
"That much is clear. Now, let's check his pockets for our "get out of jail free" card.", Sevka proposed, and Dimka nodded.
They went through Khan's belongings, checking through the various pockets of his Mk. II suit. There was little to find there, but in his backbag, there was a document detailing some of the mission parametres set by Khan's employers. The liquidation of original UNISG was mentioned among them, and Dimka also pocketed the encrypted PDA of the traitor, hoping that Maus could decrypt it.
"That alone should help, but this here might be a jackpot. Alright, Mr. De Luca, seems like we're off the hook now.", Dimka commented, shaking the PDA.
"Let's hope so. But what do you think Khan meant when he said there are others looking for Strelok?", Sevka asked.
"Those men in black suits perhaps? I wouldn't worry, they ran with their tails between their legs when we stormed the hideout yesterday.", Dimka scoffed.
Sevka nodded hesitantly, looking at the dead captain laying on the floor. Yet Dimka's comment was quickly revealed to be dead wrong, when the sound of a helicopter engine echoed through out the city. Outside, Boris and Degtyarev raised their eyes towards the sky, and the black helicopter they had seen leave before now approached yet again.

2023.06.05 14:48 knight_call1986 Beach Day Date Recap (RIP OLD)
Okay, this may be a bit of a lengthy post, but I had to really reflect on this date before I could properly articulate my experience.
For context and history on this saga you can check out my "Perfect first date" reddit to get familiar. Also "Date 2" for a follow up.
Okay, so this past Saturday I went to the beach with my lady and her two daughters. We had planned on a beach day earlier in the week and I was really looking forward to it. The plan was to spend the day together and just enjoy sand and sun. When I arrived at her place to head over to the beach, I noticed that her and her daughter had already formed an inside joke about me always wearing black. It was nice to be a part of an inside joke.
Anyway fast forward to when we arrive at the beach. Mind you this is my first time ever doing anything like this with a significant other. The most I have done is go to the lake with someone. So my mind was going through all types of thoughts and feelings. When we laid out on the beach and I saw my lady in her swimsuit I just felt very blessed to have a great woman who likes me with a great body. She asked me to rub suntan lotion on her back, and I was definitely feelin myself lol. We laid and talked to each other while her girls were goofing around. It was such a pleasant day, and I felt that I definitely get used to doing this regularly with them. We got in the water for a bit and her daughters laughed at me because I had no idea what I was doing on the boogie board, but was having fun regardless. It felt like I had my own family. It felt good.
After the beach we decided to get some dinner and chill out. We go to this cool spot and I realize I am getting a lot of looks from patrons. I figured maybe it was because my beach attire had me looking like I was about to go sailing in the Hamptons, not a beach day in South Carolina. Anyway, it was happy hour so I decided to get some drinks and chill out. We got a nice spread and those drinks hit me pretty quick so I was a jolly dude the rest of the night. One thing my gf mentioned was that the waitress liked me, to which I didn't even notice. She said the waitress gave me Happy hour prices way after happy hour but wouldn't give her the same deal. I had no idea and was totally oblivious to it. It probably comforted my gf a bit because I am ignorant to that stuff, so she doesn't even have to worry about me doing anything dumb. But all in all dinner was great and we had a fun time together.
Sitting there with her, I felt a growing sense of adoration for her. She thanked me for dinner and hanging with them, to which I thanked her for bringing me along. She told me "I am a part of the family now", and proceeded to post some pics of us together on the beach on social media (and tag me as well). So yeah she let the world know that I am hers now. Such a great date.
Thoughts and reflections:
- I definitely know I love her and her family. I may not have said it in person yet (I gotta work up the courage for that),, but I know it in my core this is my feelings towards her and the family.
- It was a lot to take in. But I think the biggest thing was being so unused to someone genuinely caring about me who wasn't my mom or sister was a bit overwhelming in a way. Feeling this makes me happy I finally get to experience it, but maybe a bit sad that it took 37 years to find it.
- Her girls and my daughter will get along great. I was veery touched at how quickly they took to me. Her youngest (11) gave me a big hug when I was getting ready to head home. It definitely made me misty eyed. Melted my heart. I look forward to them hanging out and getting along.
- This puts a lot of things into perspective. My future plans may need to be adjusted and reworked a bit, because after this beach date, I think I really need to plan for the future and actively start getting shit done. This is pretty much looking like it is going all the way, so I need to be mindful of how I move going forward.
- I came home to messages from friends and fam about being tagged on socials with her. I know they were surprised because I never post and then poof I am on the beach with a beautiful lady. It felt good being with someone who wants to show you off.
- Remember the waitress that liked me? Well I thought she looked kinda familiar but was foggy. She had asked my gf at one point if she was from a certain state because she looked familiar. Well I spent time racking my brain on why the waitress looked familiar, then it dawned on me. A long time ago I had matched with her on OLD. We talked a bit, but never went out and she just ended up ghosting me. At the time I had no clue who she was, but it makes sense why she "liked me". She remembered we matched a long time ago. But it was nice to be with my gf whom I love. I didn't even notice.
- We get along great, and this trip put a lot of things into perspective for me. I know there is work to be done, and I am laser focused on getting where I want/need to be to take this to the next level. I will continue to stay the course and I will love and adore her throughout the journey. I'm really surprised that FB dating came in so clutch with her. Granted she definitely activated her inner Steph Curry when shooting her shot. She hasn't missed yet. I look forward to learning and growing with her.
Sorry for the super long post, but I figured it would be good to share a success story after being a hot mess over this woman. I appreciate the fellow redditors for giving advice and support. I will continue to keep the updates coming. I seriously think I may have found the person I can face the inevitable with. I am looking forward to many days together.

2023.06.05 14:42 Alt56778 Anxiety Centred Around Making Other People Uncomfortable
I constantly worry that I somehow look creepy or weird. I feel like people literally cross the road to avoid me and avoid standing near me in public. It's like I can't just innocently exist without someone essentially accusing me of being up to something. I feel like the kind of person people would keep an eye on.
I dress normally, I take care of my hygiene, I don't look particularly strange and I try to just mind my own business.
Yet if I so much as look at someone or end up walking behind someone, I feel like they immediately go on the defensive like I'm giving off creepy stalker vibes or something. Security guards always seem to immediately become suspicious of me too.
I feel guilty just going to the shop because as much as I try to just calmly walk around, grab what I need, pay and go, people act as if I've personally threatened them or something.
This fear was really triggered the other day in a store when I passed a woman on the way in and she kind of gave me a weird look. I realised I had forgotten something, so ended up walking past her two more times and on the last time she looked at me absolutely terrified.
I have no clue what exactly it is that I'm doing that seems to put people so on edge. Or even if it's all in my head? It's really messing with my self esteem because it's like no matter what, everyone around me seems to believe the absolute worst about me.

2023.06.05 14:40 hammerpants11c WTS TRM Hole-y Nerd and TRM Neutron 2
Hello there
https://imgur.com/a/0sO23XL First up is the Nerd in Micarta. Factory edge on this guy and and still sharp af. Smooth broken in action. If you’ve owned the first version and liked it but didn’t like how it opened, give this one a shot. It’s a world of difference. I did carry this one lightly but not super often. Centering and lockup are fantastic. $150 for this one
Next is the slightly modded Neutron 2. I say slightly modded because simply by switching scales, it would be stock again. I sanded away some scale material near the lock/thumb stud for easier access to both and I like it better honestly. The clip has a little scratch from me bending it back after it caught a seatbelt and the thumb stud has a small mark on it. Otherwise I sharpened it on one of Worksharp’s guided rod systems and it’s a razor. I did carry this one often but I’d hesitate to call it a ‘user’ because that implies I beat the hell of if it. I’m a work from home accountant so trust me it’s been well taken care of. Awesome little knife. $160 for this guy
NOT open to trades, just need funds. CONUS only please and feel free to ask any questions. Thanks for looking!

2023.06.05 14:28 sonofabutch No game today, so let's remember a forgotten Yankee: Truck Hannah
The entirety of
Harry "Truck" Hannah's major league career came with the New York Yankees -- all three years of it. But if you include his participation in the minors, he had a long career, beginning in 1909 with the Tacoma Tigers in the Northwestern League and ending in 1940 with the Memphis Chickasaws in the Southern Association. He is one of only a handful of players to have a hit in five different decades!
Of all the forgotten Yankee with memorable nicknames --
No Neck,
Stanky the Yankee,
Sailor Bob,
Spud,
Slow Joe,
The Mummy,
Birdie,
Bump, and
Grandma Johnny -- there's something to be said about the sublime elegance of a big, brawny catcher nicknamed Truck.
James Harrison Hannah Jr. was born 134 years ago today, on June 5, 1889, in what was then the Dakota Territory. (It would become the state of North Dakota about five months later.) By age 2, the family had moved to Seattle, Washington.
As a kid, he was called Harry, but by the time he was playing baseball, he was universally known as Truck. There are several stories as to how he got the nickname. Some said it had to do with his imposing size -- he stood 6'1" and weighed a solid 190 pounds -- and others because of the way he could block the plate as easily as a truck could block a street. Other sources say the nickname wasn't comparing him to a motor vehicle but to a horse, or rather a truck horse, as horses that pulled heavy wagons were called at the time. His daughter, Helen, said he got the nickname simply because he was "big and slow."
Another explanation, a little less colorful, was that Hannah paid the bills in the off-season by working as a truck driver!
Hall of Fame Umpire Billy Evans said Hannah was adept at the catcher's trick of distracting the batter with a steady stream of banter while behind the plate:
"Truck Hannah always has been an object of interest to me when catching. Aside from always doing a pretty good job receiving, he never failed to have a line of conversation that would make a bigger hit on the vaudeville circuit than some of the stuff used by some monologue artists. Hannah keeps up a continual chatter from the time the game starts. Of course, his conversation is largely directed at the batter, in the hope that his line of talk will take the mind of the batter from his work, the making of base hits. He seeks to keep the batter from concentrating, and from the many strikes slipped over by the New York pitchers, I would say there was merit in his system. Hannah's conversation is never objectionable. He usually has the batter laughing at some of his talk, rather than sore."
But Hannah used more than just banter to distract batters. As the pitch was being delivered, he would sometimes spit tobacco juice onto a player's shoes, toss pebbles onto the plate, or throw dirt at their hands on the bat!
Hannah got his start in professional baseball as a 20-year-old third baseman with the Tacoma Tigers in the Northwestern League. When the team needed an emergency catcher, Hannah was put behind the plate and stuck there for the rest of his career. Over the next five years he played for five different teams in four different leagues, until in 1914 finally catching on with the Sacramento Wolves in the Pacific Coast League. The PCL at the time was considered by some to be a third major league, or at least the minor league closest to major league competition, and Hannah was regarded as one of the best catchers in the league. He drew interest from several major league teams, including the Tigers, Phillies, and Browns. But it was the Yankees who finally acquired him, paying $4,000 to acquire his rights after he hit .292 in 569 at-bats in 1917.
Truck pulled into the Polo Grounds -- not Yankee Stadium, which wouldn't be built until 1923 -- as the foundation was being laid for a dynasty. Jacob Ruppert and Tillinghast Huston purchased the Yankees in 1915 and immediately set about reversing the fortunes of what had been for years one of the worst-run teams in the American League. The Yankees, as they became known in 1913, had only winning season in the last 10 years.
The new owners set about making changes, acquiring a number of valuable players: Wally Pipp, Home Run Baker, Ping Bodie, Aaron Ward, Urban Shocker, and previously forgotten Yankee
Bob Shawkey.
After the 1917 season they made the biggest change of all, firing well-liked manager Bill Donovan and replacing him with former St. Louis Cardinals manager Miller Huggins, who over the next 11 years would lead the Yankees to six pennants and three World Series.
Huggins made another move, acquiring from the St. Louis Browns future Hall of Fame pitcher "Gettysburg Eddie" Plank and veteran second baseman Del Pratt. The latter would be a good player for the Yankees, hitting .295/.348/.394 (106 OPS+) over the next three seasons, but the 42-year-old Plank refused to report and retired instead. In return, the Yankees shipped out five players... including starting catcher Les Nunamaker, who had been with the Yankees for four seasons.
And so, needing a catcher to replace Nunamaker, the Yankees paid the Salt Lake City Bees $4,000 for Hannah. He was expected to battle 22-year-old Muddy Ruel to be the backup to the 25-year-old Roxy Walters, who had been Nunamaker's understudy since September 1915, but Ruel would be drafted into the U.S. Army and Walters broke his finger in an exhibition game 10 days before Opening Day. By the time Walters was ready to play again, Hannah was hitting .288/.432/.356 and had thrown out 19 out of 34 basestealers; over the rest of the season, he would maintain that pace to lead the league in CS% (55%) as well as in double plays as a catcher (16). His batting average would fade dramatically, however, dropping all the way to .220 by the end of the season, but he was still contributing with a .361 OBP in 312 plate appearances. Walters's bat never got started at all, and hitting just .199/.239/.236 in 205 plate appearances.
Technically a major league rookie when he joined the team, the 29-year-old Hannah was treated like a veteran from his four seasons in the well-respected Pacific Coast League. In addition, he was -- literally as well as figuratively, at 6'1" -- one of the few players on the team who could see eye-to-eye with the 6'2" Babe Ruth when he was acquired prior to the 1920 season. When Ruth got into squabbles with diminutive manager Miller Huggins, it was often Hannah's duty to keep the peace.
Yankee shortstop Roger Peckinpaugh, the Yankee captain from 1914 to 1921, described one such incident to long-time Yankee PR man Marty Appel in 1974:
"Once we were leaving Boston after a tough loss, and Babe was drunk, and he said he was gonna throw Huggins off the train! He was heading for his drawing room. On the way he stopped in the men’s room and punched this huge mirror. It fell into a million pieces. Me and Ernie Shore and Truck Hannah pulled him down to the ground and sat on him until he passed out. Truck — a big guy — puts him over his shoulder and moves him to the next car."
At the end of the season, the Yankees were happy enough with Hannah that they traded Roxy Walters to the Red Sox. For the next two years, the catching duties were almost evenly split between Hannah and Ruel, who was back from the Army with the end of World War I.
The "Muddy-Truck" tandem was colorfully named but disappointing, with Ruel hitting .255/.325/.306 (71 OPS+) in 560 PA and Hannah .243/.313/.317 (70 OPS+) in 553 PA. Catcher in those days was very much a defense-first position, and both had good gloves, but the Yankees (even with the newly acquired Babe Ruth having an 11.7 bWAR season) finished three games out of 1st in 1920.
Ruppert and Huston asked Huggins what the team needed to win, and his answer: a catcher.
At the end of the season, the Yankees sent Hannah back to the Pacific Coast League, and traded Ruel to the Red Sox for previously forgotten Yankee
Wally Schang, the first in the long line of great Yankee catchers. In his five years with the Yankees, the switch-hitting Schang hit .297/.390/.406 (105 OPS+), and in the 1923 World Series -- the first of 27 won by the Yankees -- Schang played every inning of every game, went 7-for-22 (.318) with a double and three runs scored, and allowed just one stolen base.
Hannah would stay in the Pacific Coast League for the next 22 years as a player, coach, and manager. He had a great year with the Vernon Tigers in 1923, hitting .346 with 23 doubles and 6 home runs in 370 plate appearances. His final plate appearance came on May 19, 1940, when he was managing the Memphis Chicks. Two weeks shy of his 51st birthday, with both his catchers injured, Hannah caught both ends of a doubleheader and went 1-for-6.
Hannah retired from baseball two years later after his St. Paul Saints lost 15 games in a row -- 11 of them by one run! He said he couldn't sleep anymore, replaying every loss in his head over and over, second-guessing every decision he made as manager.
He retired to his ranch in Southern California, but remained active enough in the regional baseball scene that when the Los Angeles Angels played their first major league game in 1961, Hannah was selected to catch the ceremonial first pitch.
Truck Hannah died on April 27, 1982, five weeks shy of his 93rd birthday. His wife, Helen, died in October, a month before what would have been their 70th wedding anniversary.
Keep On Truckin':
- One of the more interesting aspects in researching information about Truck Hannah is in looking for pictures of him, you come across many photos of trucks owned by women named Hannah.
- Hannah made his major league debut against the great Walter Johnson. In his first major league plate appearance, he singled up the middle! He popped out his second time up, then struck out. His fourth time up he drew a walk against Johnson, advanced to second on a single, and scored his first major league run on a double, and the Yankees won, 6-3. Not a bad debut against the future Hall of Famer!
- According to his SABR biography: "Hannah’s daughter may have led a more interesting life than her ballplaying father. Helen Lorraine (Hannah) Campbell was one of the first women in Los Angeles to enlist in the Marine Corps during World War II, and retired from the Marine Corps Reserve in 1975 after 32 years of service. She was also a chaperone for several years with the Muskegon and Kalamazoo teams in the All American Girls Professional Baseball League, the league that inspired the 1992 movie A League of Their Own. At the age of 75 she went parasailing for the first time and at 78 sailed over Africa’s Serengeti plains in a hot-air balloon. She died in 2013 at the age of 97."
- On May 12, 1920, Hannah went 4-for-4 (all singles) with two runs and two RBIs in a 14-8 rout of the Chicago White Sox. Hannah singled twice in a seven-run 6th inning, as did pitcher Bob Shawkey; it was the first time in major league history that a pitcher and catcher each had two hits in the same inning.
- That was Hannah's best day as a major leaguer, but he had another four-hit day on September 11, 1920, with a double and three singles in five at-bats against the Cleveland Indians.
- Truck Hannah was the first major leaguer born in what would become North Dakota when he made his debut on April 15, 1918. He also is one of three Yankees born in North Dakota: Ken Hunt, an outfielder in the Yankee farm system from 1952 to 1960 who had a couple cups of coffee in the Bronx, and later played for the Angels and Senators; and long-time Cleveland Indians 1B/DH Travis Hafner, who ended his career with the Yankees in 2013. The most famous Yankee raised in North Dakota is Roger Maris, but he was actually born in Minnesota. The family moved to Fargo when Maris was 8 years old. A total of 20 major leaguers were born in North Dakota, and the best, by bWAR, was Angels outfielder and two-time All-Star Darin Erstad.
- Hannah is on the All-Palindromic Last Name Team, along with Dean Anna, Toby Harrah, Eddie Kazak, Dave Otto, Glenn Otto, Dick Nen, Robb Nen, Johnny Reder, Juan Salas, and Mark Salas.
- In 1917, Hannah was behind the plate for the Salt Lake City Bees in the Pacific Coast League when former New York Giants outfielder Fred Snodgrass came up to the plate for the Vernon Tigers. Hannah, by this time a 28-year-old nine-year minor league veteran and hitting a respectable .292, wasn't impressed. "So you're a big leaguer? I guess you're going to come out here and show us how the Giants used to do it, eh? Let's see if you can hit this one." That off-season, major league teams asked Snodgrass for his opinion on the top players in the Pacific Coast League, and his report on Hannah: "I don’t like him personally, but I must say he is the best all around catcher in this league, and my dislike for him does not blind me to that fact."
- George Halas -- who would later be the founder of the Chicago Bears -- was a 24-year-old rookie on the New York Yankees in 1919. He was on the bench sitting next to Truck Hannah during a game against the Tigers, staring wide-eyed as his boyhood idol, the legendary Ty Cobb, strode to the plate. Hannah, maybe pranking the rookie, told Halas he ought to razz Cobb to try to throw him off his game. Halas did as he was told, and to his surprise, got a reaction: Cobb dropped his bat, marched over to the Yankee dugout, and pointed at Halas. "Punk! I'll see you after the game! Don't forget, punk!" Halas, a Navy veteran and a college football player, was no punk but not exactly looking forward to a brawl against the famously irascible Cobb. He stayed in the locker room as long as possible, hoping Cobb would be gone by the time he emerged, but when he finally came out, the Georgia Peach was waiting for him. "I like your spirit, kid," Cobb said, "but don't overdo it when you don't have to." Halas said it was a lesson he never forgot.
- Speaking of Cobb, he told a sportswriter he didn't care for Hannah's distracting patter behind the plate: “This fellow Hannah of the New York club keeps me busier at the plate than any other catcher in the league. I don’t like letting a recruit outtalk me, and in my effort to keep my end of the conversation, I had my work cut out for me making base hits off those Yankee pitchers.”
- Carl Mays, who had pitched for the Red Sox since 1915, was acquired by the Yankees on July 30, 1919. Delighted to go from the 38-48 Red Sox to the 48-38 Yankees, Mays made the rounds in the clubhouse, shaking hands. When he got to Hannah, he offered his hand, but Hannah shoved him away, then charged after him. Mays backed up until Hannah vaulted over a table and cornered him against a wall -- and only then did Hannah shake his hand. "We're even," Hannah said, grinning. Since the previous season, Hannah and Mays had been feuding. Mays took great pride in keeping his uniform spotless, and hated Hannah's trick of spitting tobacco juice onto his shoes while batting. So every time Hannah came up to the plate, Mays came "up and in" to make him hit the dirt. In April, the last time they'd face each other, Mays plunked him. But now they were teammates and all was forgiven. Ironically, a year later, Mays would kill Cleveland Indians shortstop Ray Chapman with a pitch that hit him in the head.
- During the off seasons, Hannah played in the California Winter League, believed to be the only integrated league in professional baseball at the time. Hannah also played against Negro Leaguers when barnstorming with Babe Ruth in 1920 and Dizzy Dean in 1935.
- Prior to the 1927 season, Babe Ruth made a silent movie called Babe Comes Home. Based on a short story called "Said With Soap," it had quite the plot: Ruth is Babe Dugan, a ballplayer whose tobacco-chewing habit means his uniform is always stained. He falls in love with Vernie, the laundress who cleans the team uniforms, but she wants him to stop chewing tobacco. Babe then goes into a slump, and finds himself on the bench. Vernie finally relents and gives him a plug of tobacco, and Babe hits a game-winning home run. The movie was filmed at Wrigley Field -- not that one, but a field with the same name in Los Angeles. It was the home stadium for the Los Angeles Angels, and on the Angels were several ex-Yankees, including Truck Hannah. Ruth was much more interested in his old pals than in the movie, and the exasperated director struggled to keep Ruth's attention. Finally, he moved Ruth to a distant park of the stadium, as far away as he could from Hannah and the other ex-Yankees. But Hannah and the others kept mischievously hitting balls in his direction, causing Ruth to botch take after take!
- Hannah was in two movies himself, both times as a baseball playing extra. The films are notable because they are both early "talkies". His first appearance was in 1928's Warming Up, about a pitcher (played by Richard Dix, later a star in westerns) who falls in love with the team owner's daughter (played by Jean Arthur, who would later co-star with Jimmy Stewart in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington). A year later Hannah was in Fast Company, about a baseball player (Jack Oakie) who is inspired to greatness thanks to fan letters he thinks come from a beautiful woman (Evelyn Brent) but are actually written by his conniving manager (Skeets Gallagher). In 1940, Oakie was nominated for an Academy Award for his performance as a parody of Benito Mussolini in Charlie Chaplin's The Great Dictator.
- Joe DiMaggio, still a teenager, played for the San Francisco Seals in the Pacific Coast League from 1932 to 1935. Hannah, with the Los Angeles Angels, played against him often. Prior to DiMaggio's debut with the Yankees in 1936, a sportswriter asked the former big leaguer for his scouting report on DiMaggio. "They'll be comparing him to Tris Speaker and Harry Hooper and those fellows in a year or two," Hannah said. Truck was right: Speaker and Hooper were both Hall of Fame outfielders, and of course, so was the Yankee Clipper.
- In 1936, Hannah was a playecoach for the Los Angeles Angels. Ted Williams, already a legendary hitter (and pitcher) from his exploits at Herbert Hoover High School in San Diego, was being courted by both major and minor league teams. Ted's father, Sam Williams, was acting as his agent, and he arranged a meeting with Truck Hannah to talk about a contract with the Angels. "When my dad went down to talk to him, Hannah said, 'Where's the kid?'" Williams later recalled. "Dad says, 'He's not here.' Hannah said, 'Well, for crying out loud, go get him. He's the one I want to talk to, not you!'" Insulted, Sam Williams walked away. Instead, Williams -- after turning down offers from the Yankees and the Cardinals -- signed with the newly formed San Diego Padres of the Pacific Coast League. Had he signed with the Angels, Williams likely would have been a Cub, as they were a Chicago affiliate. (But Williams, a San Diego native, likely would have signed with the Padres even if Hannah had made a better impression.)
- Hannah's mouth almost cost his team another teenaged prospect. In 1934, 16-year-old Steve Mesner went to an open try-out for the Los Angeles Angels, and Hannah was helping to evaluate the prospects. He took one look at Mesner and shouted, "Get out of here, kid! You're too little!" Mesner started walking off the field, but someone told him to go back. During batting practice, he hit three balls over the fence! During a fielding drill, he was handling every chance, and the coach kept hitting them harder and harder, expecting the teenager to boot one. He didn't, and the team gave him a contract. Mesner hit .328 in three years with the Angels before going to the Chicago Cubs and later the Cincinnati Reds.
- The winter of 1918-1919 was gripped by the "Spanish Flu" epidemic and, in a scene that would be familiar to all of us today, the players, umpires, and fans in a Southern California winter league wore face masks during the game. A photo ran in the newspaper with the catcher misidentified in the caption as "Trash" Hannah of the New York Yankees!
- Hannah is a member of the Pacific Coast League Hall of Fame. Some sources say he was an inaugural member when it was created in 1943; other sources say he was inducted in 1950. Other notable Yankees in the PCL HoF include Frankie Crosetti, Joe DiMaggio, and Casey Stengel.
- Hannah's daughter, U.S. Marine Master Gunnery Sergeant Helen Hannah Campbell, went to Whittier High School with Richard Nixon, and later served as a docent the Richard Nixon Library and Birthplace in Yorba Linda, California. Richard Nixon, who grew up watching Hannah as a player and manager in the Pacific Coast League, said in a 1983 interview: "I remember Truck Hannah. He was a great catcher and could hit."
- In 1925, Hannah helped organize the Association of Professional Ball Players of America, created to assist former professional baseball players who are injured, elderly, or destitute. The APBPA is still in existence today!
Near the end of his career, Truck Hannah was interviewed about the rigors of being a catcher. He said during his 30 years in baseball he'd broken every finger on his right hand at least twice. "What the hell, it's all part of the game," he said. "It sure was fun while it lasted. Even with busted hands and fingers and everything else, I wouldn't have missed it for the world."

2023.06.05 14:23 Pikachyuuuuu A revision of the first two WN prologue chapters. What do you think?
Hello everyone!
Recently I've been reading the WN of TsukiMichi, and while I do think the translations are passable, I don't think they could be considered all that good, especially from the perspective of a native English speaker.
I will iterate though, that I respect Reigokai for everything he has done, and I am quite grateful to even be able to experience the web novel in any form or fashion.
Carrying onto the main point of this post, whilst I do enjoy the web novel, I was curious what it may look like if the translations were a bit more natural and free flowing.
I am no writer, but I decided to try my hand at reviewing and revising a couple chapters at the beginning of the WN just to see how much of a difference it might make.
I should mention that the revisions were simply made to the material provided by Reigokai, I built upon whatever he had translated, and did not refer to the original work. I can't read enough Japanese to be able to directly translate after all. I simply tried to infer the meaning from what was already presented in the web novel, and make it a little more clear.
I would love to get others opinions on my revisions and what you think in comparison to the original.Any form of constructive criticism would be welcome!
For example, did I take too much creative liberty in redescribing some situations, did I fluff it up too much, are there any changes you think were unnecessary or detract away from the experience?
On top of that do you think I should continue? It's honestly quite time consuming to do this, so I don't know if I will, but it was enjoyable for what it's worth so I may if I feel like it!
While reading you may find a couple of grammatical errors and such, I hope you won't mind!
TL;DR: I revised two chapters of the TsukiMichi WN and would appreciate constructive feedback.
Prologue: This is the beginning of the autumn sky
I woke up, made breakfast, and in the meantime prepared my lunchbox.
I left for school, then went to club for morning practice.
Finishing up my club’s morning practice, I headed to class.
Once that was finished, I once again went back to club in the afternoon.
After hanging out with my friends in club, I went back home.
I took a bath, and then I changed.
I enjoyed some time with my family, and then I rested.
In the late nights of autumn, I read books, played games, and surfed the web.
Finally, I slept.
That’s all I did.
There might have been something in between the lines, but that’s not particularly important.
“That’s why it’s strange... Why I am not asleep in the comforts of my own home!?”
That’s right... without a doubt... I’m somewhere else.
I don’t exactly know where, but here I am.
In a square room that looks as if stars were printed on the walls and floor.
In order to better assess my situation, I went around inspecting the room.
I was concerned by the fact that there was no obvious exit present.
On top of that, ever since I got here, I haven’t felt the presence of anything or anyone else.
Currently, I am entrusting my back to a corner of the room, while I ponder my situation.
“You are extremely calm considering your circumstances, huh.”
“?!”
A voice...
There’s definitely nothing present in this room, yet I’m certain I heard a loud voice.
Looking around, I saw that nothing in the room had visibly changed.
The voice continued.
“Once I projected my voice, you immediately began searching your surroundings attempting to comprehend the current state of affairs. Simultaneously, you remained vigilant as you endeavored to organize your thoughts, huh?”
“Who are you?”
If all I could hear was a voice, it seemed my best option was to attempt to communicate with it.
“If I said I was a god, would you believe me?”
“Absolutely not.”
Does this voice have a screw loose?
“That is quite unfortunate.”
“Well, I will now transport you to a REALLY good parallel world. I should mention, it is a one way trip so you will not be able to return to your original world.”
“Wait! Wait! Wait! Wait!”
What kind of nonsense is this thing spewing so nonchalantly?!
“In regards to what you will be tasked to do, you should ask the one who is in charge of that place when you arrive.
“With that now explained, I am sorry but I need you to sign off on this.”
“Like hell I’m going to do that!”
As I anticipated, my voice became violent. I mean, It’s a given! it’s obvious! Who would just accept this situation like that?!
“Oh? You don’t want to? That’s weird... I was told you would be going.”
The voice seemed troubled.
There’s a limit to jokes! I have in absolutely no way, heard about this beforehand!
“I’m not lying! I haven’t been told a thing about this! Okay? Moreover, what kind of idiot would just willingly accept the concept of another world?! The fact that we’re even talking about this is just plain weird!”
I attempted to explain my side of the story with all my available might.
“Huh, it seems as if it truly was not you. I apologize, I seem to have made a mistake.”
I breath a sigh of relief.
“I appreciate your apology, but are you going to bring me back home?!”
I still have yet to return to my original tone of voice.
My current tone may not be threatening, but it’s definitely not polite either.
I mean, who’s going to blame me? This is a completely ridiculous situation. It’s definitely not my fault.
“Of course I will.”
That’s what the voice said.
With that, I breathe another sigh of relief.
I’m so glad. It’s a ‘voice’ that can be reasoned with.
Usually, in a standard template scenario like this, this is the part where the voice would say ‘I’m sorry’, ‘it’s impossible’, or ‘oh well, try your best’ and would simply toss you out to fend for yourself.
Maybe you’d even be given the guy who tells you ‘You’re already dead’ and, without hearing any complaints, throws you out to fend for yourself in another world.
That’s what I thought would happen but...
I’m saved ~
“Well, I am extremely sorry… if that is truly the case, then as an alternative it must be either your younger or older sister.”
I retract everything I just said. This guy just said something that can’t be passed off as a joke.
It said it in a nonchalant way, but those were words I absolutely cannot let slip by.
“Hey... could you repeat yourself one more time?”
“Hm? If you are not the one to be chosen, that means one of your sisters must be. ”
“Don’t give me that shit!”
“If you touch my sisters, I’ll make sure you live to regret it!”
They’re out there, living their own lives to the fullest!
There’s no way they’d be able to just accept this situation!
The audacity! Without even an ounce of care in its voice, this thing says it’ll just whisk one of the two away!
Don’t mess with me!
“For the sake of confirming, you are indeed the Misumi family’s eldest son, Misumi Makoto-kun, correct?”
Why does it know my name?
“The kids of the Misumi household should have already been told of this matter. At least, that is what I was told. Is this not correct?”
The voice seemed even more troubled now then it did before.
I was a bit surprised by this. Although it kidnapped me out of nowhere, it still tried its best to respect my will.
Everything being considered…
“Well, for the time being, could you at least tell me your name?”
That’s right. I’m still somehow managing not to fall into a complete panic, but it’s not as if I’m extremely calm either.
The best way to put it would be, I’m composed. I have to settle down a bit.
Even now, I still don’t even know the identity of the voice.
“?? Oh yeah of course, you are quite right. I apologize for not having introduced myself sooner. I am called Tsukuyomi.”
“I see, Tsukuyomi. Tsukuyomi… Tsukuyomi?!”
“Oh? Do you know of me? I see you are quite knowledgeable.”
“You don’t mean, Tsukuyomi of the three Shinto gods, do you? That Tsukuyomi no Mikoto?!”
“Oooh, yes, that would indeed be correct. Although, compared to the other two, I am nothing but a minor character.”
I mean, that’s true. Even considering that though, he’s still a big shot.
I like myths and history (though only a bit), henceforth why I know of him.
If what the voice is saying is true, then he is quite the character.
“Why is it that the Tsukuyomi-sama knows of me?”
Let’s begin with the thing I understand the least. I don’t understand why I was chosen to travel to another world.
“…”
“I see, you really don’t know anything. Alright, I will tell you.”
Everything I was told from that point on, I honestly couldn’t get a grasp on it.
I was in a pretty fortunate position compared to those who are suddenly called to another world, get lost, or get reincarnated—or at least that’s what I had thought.
Prologue 2: The farewell gift is a secret
To summarize what Tsukuyomi-sama said to me, it goes something like this.
The reason for the transportation and procedure had all been explained to me.
Basically, my parents themselves were originally residents of this aforementioned other world.
When I was young, I was told that my grandparents had already died and that we didn’t have connections with any of our other relatives but… to think that this was the reason why.
In order to come to our current world, for one reason or another, they made an agreement with the god of that other world.
That’s what seems to have triggered my current situation.
That’s to say, the condition the god gave them was ‘one day, I will take that which is most important from you’.
Is that guy the devil?!
It seems my parents agreed to that condition.
Now that I think about it all three children of my family (myself include) were taught how to do domestic chores, as well as made to learn some sort of martial art.
To think that that was preparation for this of all things! All for the purpose of possibly being shipped off to another world at any time!
No no no, don’t joke around. My parents never told me anything about another world!
Well, to be fair, even if they had told me, I’d probably look at them as if they were a bunch of crazy people.
My father is a writer that specializes in making fantasy novels that are oddly realistic and hold a lot of presence.
Though, to think that that was because he had actually experienced the real thing is a little mind boggling.
In one of his works, he intricately detailed the flavors of a dragon steak, and the comforts of sleeping in a stable, both of which were especially moving moments.
The world that I’m going to now is that same magic filled fantasy world.
It seems that I’m going to be sent to that world with power that surpasses that of my peers. Due to various reasons, the people that are transferred over from my world are all incredibly strong.
In a sense, it’ll be as if I’ve been released from extremely heavy clothing.
It’s not like I’ll be given immortality though, so I can still suffer fatal wounds. At least, I’ve been warned of such.
Judging by what Tsukuyomi-sama has said, it seems that even just living in my world is a feat in and of itself.
Not only is there practically no magical power, the Gods’ divine protection can barely reach anyone there. It’s a harsh world in comparison to others. That’s the kind of place I’ve been living in up until now, at least, according to Tsukuyomi-sama.
Even though all I’ve done is live my life normally...
How convenient for me.
“I’m extremely sorry for shouting at you. It seems you’ve also had it rough Tsukuyomi-sama.” (Makoto)
Moreover, thinking about the hardships Tsukuyomi-sama must have faced due to being the middle child nestled between the two extraordinary beings that are his elder sister and younger brother...
I felt a flood of emotions when considering his situation. Even now, when he simply tried to do his job, he was shouted at by a person he barely knows.
He’s definitely had it rough so far.
“Well, well, to think your understanding of my own circumstance would be so intricate! How long has it been since I have felt such a blissful feeling? Though, if we are to talk about having it rough, Makoto-dono has it plenty rough himself.” (Tsukuyomi)
To think he even understands my feelings of being the only man wedged in between two sisters! I never thought the day would come, when somebody could sympathize with me so!
Now that I’ve been enlightened to his greatness, if there was ever a Tsukuyomi Mikoto religion, I’d enter it in a heart beat!
Hooray Tsukuyomi-sama!
“Nonetheless, my sisters and I have lived a normal life up until now. We’re way too late in the game to suddenly be told we’ve essentially been living in a wasteland all our lives.” (Makoto)
“Out of all the other worlds out there, yours is certainly the harshest. In the eyes of an otherworlder, it would be like live in the depths of the ocean or living in a sea of lava.” (Tsukuyomi)
“On a separate note, she really is taking her time.” (Tsukuyomi)
We’ve been waiting for the goddess of the other world to come and retrieve me but…
Considering how long she’s taking, it doesn’t seem like that goddess will be coming anytime soon.
It seems that world is a pretty popular place, inhabited by a Goddess and spirits alike.
In what way does that make it popular? I honestly have no clue.
By the way, I’ve already signed whatever it is Tsukuyomi-sama gave me. Of course, only after thoroughly reviewing the conditions and being convinced about it, okay?
After all, if I don’t go, either my older or younger sister would have to go in my place.
I’m extremely troubled by this, you know? Very troubled.
I mean, for one, I won’t be able to play games anymore. In a world where machines don’t exist, I won’t even be able to play something as simple as a mobile game!
I also have to bid farewell to all my manga and novels.
Furthermore, on my computer, there may or may not be a number of things that are 18+. If those get discovered, I have no clue how I would even begin to explain that to my family.
I’m a growing young man! It’s perfectly understandable! Right?!
That’s why I told Tsuki-sama about it, and requested the he clean it up in a covert manner so that my family wouldn’t notice.
This might not come off very well, but aside from my family, I honestly could care less if anyone else knows about it.
Now that I have been cornered, I understand just how tiny I truly am. Though, that’s how I really feel.
However, that isn’t any good.
That’s why I decided to stop being so self-centered. How do I say it? I’m honestly surprised at how much I prioritize myself!
Although, I still wanted to do something about my dark history.
While he did say I can’t return…
If my family who I won’t be able to see again, if they find the materials linked to my inner man…
“I can’t believe our kid had these kinds of hobbies!”(Makoto’s father)
“Even if he’s our child, how unrefined of him!”(Makoto’s mother)
“Onii-chan*, you’re disgusting!” (Makoto’s younger sister) [*Big brother]
“I can’t believe my little brother! Could it be?! Did he look at me with such a lascivious gaze as well?!”(Makoto’s older sister)
“NOOOOOOO!!! STOOOOOOOOOOOP!!!!!” (Makoto)
There’s absolutely no way I could take that! Even just imagining it is enough to make me want to kill myself!
“Do not worry young Mikoto.” (Tsukuyomi)
Tsuki-sama was different. While I was writhing due to the madness found within my heart, and was about to be engulfed by the accumulating negative feelings, he said this to me.
“Everything you have that contains contents of men’s dreams, books, and software, as well as the contents your hard drive; I will make sure to take responsibility of wiping them all from the face of the planet!” (Tsukuyomi)
Tsuki-sama said while nodding reassuringly.
He understood everything... absolutely everything about it...
He truly is a God! He truly is divine! Even if in the eyes of others, he is simply a minor character, he is definitely number one in my heart! You have become the greatest of Gods! The Chief God!
I am impressed by the fact that he knew of advanced technological devices such hard drives.
Honestly though, I’m not thinking too much about stuff like that. I’m just grateful that my potential nightmare has disappeared.
Tsuki-sama and I decided to kill time while waiting for the goddess. We talked about this and that. We talked about things such as society while drinking tea that was pulled out of who knows where.
“By the way, to my understanding in the new world I will have immense physical and magical power but…” (Makoto)
“Yes?” (Tsukuyomi)
“Will I receive something like a special ability? For example, an impenetrable barrier, the demon eye of truth, a Rose Logia, or a heavenly phase?” (Makoto)
I mean, if I have an incredible amount of magic power, there might not be any need. Even so, it’s the dream of any young man to have powers like that.
Normally, there are a lot of people that are given overpowered abilities when they arrive in another world, you know? That’s why I want it too, you know?
I mean, I guess that’s only in fiction though...
From what I’ve heard, there are demi-humans, and even beastkin so even if I’m a little abnormal I shouldn’t be discriminated against.
All that considered, it would be nice if I had one, at least that’s what I thought.
“Of course you will!” (Tsukuyomi)
“Seriously?! What kind? What kind will I get?” (Makoto)
I honestly didn’t think my request could be fulfilled~. You’ll only know if you ask, huh.
“I do not know. I am sorry, but it will be a surprise for when you arrive there. I myself can only go there once, and after that I will be incapable of communicating with you, so I am only going to give you a hint, okay?” (Tsukuyomi)
“Ooh~ I hope it’s something like a blank skill that lets you make any power you want!” (Makoto)
“Nope, that is not the case. I am sorry, but although I am divine, even I have limits imposed upon myself.” (Tsukuyomi)
“??” (Makoto)
“It is said that I am the one who governs the night and the moon, but my real attribute is quite ambiguous. In fact, it may be similar to what you speak of, a ‘blank skill’ of sorts.” (Tsukuyomi)
“That is why I will give you as much of my power as I can. Although, I do not know how it will bud, and what kind of fruit it shall bare. It may even become something you do not desire. For that, I am sorry.” (Tsukuyomi)
Having said that, Tsuki-sama beckons me to come closer.
Following his instructions, I sat beside him. He then placed his hand on me.
I felt something beginning to flow into me. That something went through my spine and then began to circulate throughout my whole body. It then went around to my chest, and began to gather there. Finally it calmed itself.
Is this the blessing he said he would give me?
“I feel something accumulating withing me. Is this what you would call the point of origin?” (Makoto)
“That’s right, you learn fast.”(Tsukuyomi)
“There should be no problems with the perception of your surroundings. When you imagine yourself letting the power out, it should active.” (Tsukuyomi)
“The feeling of releasing the power in the palm of your hands is probably the easiest to understand.” (Tsukuyomi)
“I should mention, it is currently impossible. This place is still technically located in your original world after all.” (Tsukuyomi)
I wanted to give it a try, but Tsuki-sama stopped me while laughing.
“This may be slightly tangential, Makoto-dono, but I should mention even if it is stated in your contract, the goddess of the other world should similarly give you an ability of some sort.
You will be abandoning your current world, of not particularly your own volition, so giving you side-benefits is of course a given.” (Tsukuyomi)
Once again, Tsuki-sama bows his head with an apologetic expression.
“No way, Tsukuyomi-sama! I am nothing but grateful to you. Maybe, just maybe, if I had been sent away without any explanation after rejecting you, and then, the next day, one of my sisters were to disappear, I would’ve regretted it for the rest of my life.” (Makoto)
“Makoto-dono is truly kind… it seems she has finally come.” (Tsukuyomi)
“Finally, huh. We’ve been talking for quite a while. No, more like her tardiness allowed us to do so.” (Makoto)
“You know, if you wanted, I could record all our conversations in a dream pillow. Is this really enough for you?” (Tsukuyomi)
In Tsuki-sama’s hand, there were two letters.
When I asked Tsuki-sama if I could leave anything behind for my family, he gave me a lot of different ways to give them a message in a heartbroken manner. In the end, I decided to go with letters. One was addressed to my parents, and the other to my sisters.
My parents, having come from there, would understand if I told them about the other world, but using that kind of explanation for my sisters would be hard. Therefore, I made two of them. I’ll let my parents decide whether or not to tell my sisters the truth of the matter.
Conversely, I asked if it was possible for me to take anything with me. In response, I was told that he could make some accommodations for it.
I chose various books and writing utensils (ball-pens and mechanical pencils were a no go, so I had to make due with a pencil). I wanted to bring a bit of food too, but for some reason I was denied that privilege as well. There’s are probably numerous laws for the management of worlds. I assume in this case, the preservation of what’s already there, huh.
“Yes, I don’t mind- huh?!” (Makoto)
My body is going transparent? I double checked just to be sure, but half my body has gone transparent?!
“What?! She plans to take you away without even giving me any notice?! What is she thinking, that stupid woman!” (Tsukuyomi)
Tsuki-sama was also panicking. It wasn’t like I was going to die though. I was just being taken away after all, so I felt a bit relieved.
“Makoto-dono, I am sorry! The Goddess that you are about to meet, is quite problematic and troublesome character. It is a given if you are unable to hide your displeasure. But, if you can find it somewhere in your heart, please, overlook her actions.” (Tsukuyomi)
Tsuki-sama is a wise person. He’s probably come into contact with a good number of people in his lifetime.
I smiled while nodding.
I was able to harden my resolve to travel to another world thanks to him, and he managed to make me accept the situation I was given. He chatted with me and helped calm myself.
Those were the words he gave me as I departed, the words from that Tsukuyomi Mikoto.
Even if the Goddess I’m about to meet in this parallel world has a troublesome personality, I will do my best to accept her for Tsukuyomi-sama’s sake.

2023.06.05 14:22 chronic_pain_queen Better than menthol patches
My coworker recommended this to peppermint-based roll-on one day when I had a bad migraine at work. Could also be found at an Indian grocery store (I believe), but there aren't many Indian establishments near me, so I got it on Amazon. HIGHLY RECOMMEND
DO NOT GET IT IN YOUR EYES !!!! Start with a little bit then work your way up. Instant relief regardless.

Gonna love you, not the way my father loves my mother.
But rather the way how my mother loves my father.
I can feel you here but you're never been here.
Be here, be near, I need you here.
Girl, look me in the eye,
Gal, you're the one I want to walk in the aisle.
And if the world spins backward,
Don't worry, I'm gonna find you still.
Is it worth it?
Did he deserve it?
I know I could have make it.
9 miles away but I can feel you still
Help me to get through,
Don't build a wall between us.
I ain't communist, I cherish democracy with my heart.
So please don't take a step to separate us.
I couldn't think, zero.
Can't come up with another plan.
Can't come up with new maneuver.
Perhaps this is over, perhaps I'm over.
But I rather choose to have one more bad day with you.
Than to live a thousand years without you.
Than to roam this lonely world without you.
Than to make it in the end without you.
And if the world spins backward.
Don't worry, I'm gonna find you still.
You are always meant for me,
9 miles away but I can feel you still.
Just want to explore, implore, and move on.
No matter what happens I never gonna lose.
No matter what happens I never gonna lose.
Perhaps I'm wrong, perhaps you're right.
But nothing matters in the middle of the night.
We're just two lost birds finding a nest to rest in.
Never trust a person you loved, so shit doesn't hurt.
When everything goes south, when everything goes bad.
Gonna love you, not the way my father loves my mother.
But rather the way how my mother loves my father.
I can feel you here but you're never been here.
Be here, be near, I need you here.

2023.06.05 14:18 socialcall Called a man out for bothering a group of girls at a gig
A very long post about something that happened at a gig which I just can't seem to stop worrying over - thanks for reading!
My partner and I were at a gig on Saturday night, it was a really busy gig and there was a group of girls stood near us throughout the whole evening. They were probably in their late teens, just there in a group of four. Early on, we saw a guy approach them, he was a lot taller than them and looked a lot older and he kept leaning his head into their group and shouting a comment, which they all acknowledged briefly, but werent trying to engage in conversation with him. I made eye contact with one of the girls who gave me that, eyes-widened "Oh my God, wish this guy would go away look". He stood next to them for a while, with the girls ignoring him, and then seemed to get the message and left.
About an hour or so later, he reappeared. Exactly the same, was trying to start a conversation, they were ignoring him completely or just saying a single word to him. He stood next to them, tried to involve himself and eventually disappeared. After he left, we heard all the girls saying "I'm so glad he's gone, he's so annoying".
Half way through the main act, he came back again and did the whole thing again. He was tall, so it was inconvenient having him in front of us, but also it just looked really dodgy and we'd seen the girls reaction to him twice now and he was just doing the same thing again, so my partner tapped on his shoulder and said "look mate, can you leave these girls alone, they're obviously not interested" the guy immediately started saying that he knows these girls etc etc to which me and my partner said, sure you do. He got the attention of one of the girls and said "you know me, don't you" and she nodded - i thought somewhat reluctantly. And he said "I know I look older, but I'm actually 19. I see what you're doing, I get this all the time, but it's not what you think." I said "sure, but we're just saying that these girls don't seem keen to talk to you and you'd be better going back to your other friends". My partner puts his hand on my shoulder and says - let's leave it. We've done what we can. Again, this guy stays there getting zero from these girls and eventually leaves again and we enjoy the rest of the gig, feeling a little bad that we'd misread the situation.
Saw the group again at the end of the night where two of the girls have dropped back from the rest and he's hurrying them along and one turns to the other and says "I wish he'd fuck off". So we felt a bit better after that.
I've felt a bit conflicted about it, I stand by what we did - because if he had been harassing those girls then it would have been a different situation. I hope getting confronted makes him realise that even if his intention isn't to harass, if this "happens to me all the time" then maybe you need to take a look at yourself... and also that he shouldn't be trying to hang out with a group of girls who don't want him there. I don't blame the girls - we've all been there in late teens/early 20s when there's a guy you don't want around, but you can't seem to get rid of him and it is difficult to know how to handle it properly. Still, if someone else in the crowd is confronting the guy, it would have been useful for them to have said something either in his defense or to say thank you afterwards considering we'd tried to get rid of him.
The whole thing has just sat with me trying to work out if we did the right thing or if we should have just ignored the situation completely. I've never confronted someone before, so that might be why!!
Tl/dr: confronted a guy at a gig when we thought he was harassing some girls. Turns out they knew each other, but they still obviously didn't want him around. I shouldn't be feeling conflicted about confronting him, but I've never confronted someone before so I'm feeling weird!!

2023.06.05 13:55 CheezeCrostata My Arena playthrough part 16 - Dagoth Ur
Part 15 was here. As Arnold used to say:
I'm Bach!
Ok, I'm not Arnie, nor am I Bach, but I am back (sort of).
When we last left off, Azarnus had just arrived to the lost Dwemer mine below Red Mountain. His goal: the final piece of the Staff of Chaos. As John Constantine said of the Hell's Bible:
It is kept at the highest point in the lowest pit.
Venturing in, the first floor of Dagoth Ur did not impress: grey walls, grey floors, and grey ceilings, inhabited by grey stone golems. Whoopie. The place seemed to be carved out of old cooled lava and soot. A few steps past the entryway and I found a prison-like area, with several cells surrounded by a moat of lava. Inside were some creatures and some treasure piles. Going past I've had to cross seemingly endless corridors, occasionally interrupted by ditches, and pools of even more lava. The denizens of this place: stone golems, homunculi, hell hounds, medusas, and wraiths, were a nuisance, but no match for moi. In this dreaded place I met an
Ash Vampire, and had to wrestle them for a mythril key. Or at least that's what I was supposed to do, seeing as how you can bypass the mythril door using Passwall. To be honest, I beat the first level so long ago, I forgot all about it. Still, the tomb was a nice touch, and the locked door was just a reach away from it.
The second floor. This place was dark and hot. There's gold glinting in the walls (or so the flavour text told me), seemingly heated up by a great fire below. Proceeding through the corridors I was met with a door, demanding a jeweled key. And you know what this means: key hunt.
What was a nice change of pace: I found the key almost immediately, then another one, then several more. Ok, so there are more locked doors, but who's counting? I've got all the keys! It's like hunting for mushrooms, I swear! This floor had quite a few interesting areas, whoever planned it was quite the architect, eh? A
tonal architect, amirite? He-he-he. But I got overconfident. Having collected all the keys I could find, I went back to the door. It flung open. Then the next, then the next. No door stood in my way, and all opened at the might of my key-chain!... All, but one: the diamond door. Having suffered a micro nervous breakdown, I rushed back into the
green hell corridors, in search of the last key, scouring the place desperately!
(Editor's note) Eventually I stopped playing. The answer came to me a few days before now. I was watching a video on Skygerfall and got the itch to play Daggerfall (because screw Skyrim). But I've promised myself that I will first beat Arena, and so decided to finish what
Vader I've started. For this I launched the game on the PC - because it's just more comfortable this way - and started looking.
Somehow I've figured out that I needed to dive into a ditch, and came out right in the room where the final key lay. The bad news was that it's guarded by a lich. I had already mentioned how I "love" these guys, in my previous post, or maybe the one before that. And you can bet your garters (actually, I'd rather you don't) that I'm going to complain about them in my next entry, just you wait! Well, this one pwnd me.
Dejected I shut the game down until today, when I've decided that enough was enough. This time I ran the game on the mobile, because I don't know what files to transfer, so the automap on the PC was blank. But now that I've had the power of the automap in the literal palm of my hand, I confidently directed Azarnus towards the diamond key. (End Editor's note)
The battle was fierce, but the lich was finally defeated. With the diamond key in hand I've made my way to the door that had previously mocked me so with it's unassailability (these doors could not be bypassed with Passwall, sadly). Unlocking it, I was greeted by two Tharn's Witnesses in the form of stone golems, but having politely introduced them to Ebony Blade, I was able to continue onward with nary a donation.
The third floor welcomed me with a breath of it's sulphurous air. The place felt even hotter, but faint light was coming from a distance. As I proceeded through the single, yet somewhat winded corridor I was met by a continuous sequence of scares: two homunculi, followed by two stone golems, followed by another two homunculi around the corner, and two wraiths. Finally I had reached the end of the corridor, discovering a large room filled with boiling lava that would occasionally pop into splashes. Here I fought two more ghosts, and a whole slew of fire daemons, homunculi, and even a couple more liches (technically I only found one and it killed me, so I just avoided it on my next try, but I'm pretty sure there's at least one more on the opposite side of the room). At the center of the lava lake was a structure. I reached it by levitating. Scaling the structure I saw the final staff piece: a clawed hand holding a crystal orb. But there was a catch - literally - it was held on a pedestal in the middle of a pit in the centre of the structure. Jumping in to get it, I quickly realized that I was now trapped, as a riddle resounded in my head, informing me of my doom, unless I solved it.
(Editor's note:) I hate riddles, so after trying several options, I went online to find the answer. There, you happy now? (End Editor's note)
Getting out I've decided not to bother with the monsters, so I activated the Ring of Khajiit and made my way for the exit.
Having reassembled the Staff, my ultimate goal was now at hand: defeat Jagar Tharn and free the Emperor. Arriving at the Imperial City around midnight, I began looking for the nearest inn. In the meantime, Tharn contacted me via telepathic video call, boasting of his smarts for turning the mighty Staff of Chaos into a butter churner, or an oar. How? Simply by draining it's power, which is apparently how he managed to split it into pieces, in the first place. After the transmission ended, he immediately teleported a couple of his minions. And you know what they were? Rogues. Rogues! After all the undead and daedra I've had to mow down, the mighty
Boosh Tharn sends two lousy Rogues against me?!? Pah-lease!
Anyway, after dispatching them, I found an inn, got a couple of drinks, and went to bed. In the morning I investigated my loot, sold my crap, fixed Ebony Blade, and made my way to the Imperial Palace.
The end of my journey is near.
Part 17 will be [here], hopefully soon. submitted by

It really was a marvelous evening that night, outside in downtown. All sorts of folks were walking out on their own errands or tasks, each and every one of them on their own agenda. Some were simply shopping, others were busy getting somewhere, and others still simply wanted to enjoy a walk in the richness of the city. Everyone within the common square had something they needed or wanted to do, and with only a little traffic that was all easily possible. Yet there was one man here that stood still as stone- his phone was out in his hand, but his typing on it was casual and held only half of his attention. He hummed to himself as he texted his beloved, their conversation short and brief.
"Sorry for being slow on this, baby. With summer approaching, it gets harder and harder to make away with our produce."
"Don't worry about that. It's our own fault that we are more than we should have! Just find some quality food and head back safe, okay? Love you."
With a smile, the man put away his phone and looked to the crowds of people before him. He automatically shyed his gaze away from children or the elderly, and was instead spying upon the adults. There was a tall man, but the tattoos made his eyes switch to someone new near immediately. A richly dressed woman was walking by, speaking irritably into her phone and walking with a determined pace. She was short and stocky, and he almost got up.. but the pulling of a vape pen and a quick puff on it made him sit back down. He sighed, and continued watching and waiting.. until he smiled, watching as a young college aged man slipped into an alleyway. His bag was laden with bulging cylindrical object, and a poorly zipped end revealed that they were all spray paint.. perfect. The man hummed as he rose up from his seat, a hand resting in his pocket as he followed with a brisk walking pace.
The alleyway was grungy and well deserving of some care and custodial efforts, but it was a popular shortcut amongst delinquents for that reason. Spray painted graffiti art was everywhere across the stone brick walls, both hateful and creative talents alike struggling to breath in the cramped canvas they found themselves in. The young man knelt down on the ground and dropped his bag, reaching for his red paint just as our people watcher came into view.
"Hey, man, I ain't doing anything illegal if that's why you followed me. Why don't you just leave me alone..?" The young delinquent said in a stand offish tone, standing up sharply and facing the well dressed man before him. The gentleman merely chuckled, shaking his head and raising a hand in a gesture to calm and slow down.
"Come, now, 'dude.' I'm not here to sully your artistic efforts with some antagonizing! I just wanted to tell you where there's more space to paint something proper- something no one will dare to cover up," He began, speaking calmly and approaching the young adult. He was about an inch or two shorter, but it didn't disturb him. Just as the college student began to speak, he interrupted with a suddenly cruel tone. "..I mean your missing posters, of course, but I doubt you'll be able to process what I'm even saying."
With a slash of steel, red covered the wall; the paint can in the victims hand falling to the ground with it's seal intact. The well dressed man hummed with a smile, bending down and picking up the fresh body before him. He lifted it up with one hand, texting his beloved once more: "Got us something excellent after all. Preheat the oven for me, love- we'll have a good treat tonight, and we'll bring the rest to our meeting with the others tomorrow."
(Good evening, morning, or afternoon to anyone who made it this far; and an especially good greeting to those who were able to take a guess where this was heading. I'm posting this prompt here because I'm searching for someone willing to play a cannibal man's other half- one that could simply be a fellow powerful human, or something more.. supernatural, that would have an interest in blood or human meat.
I'm intending on this being a longer term roleplay focusing on the money and power these two hold and how they keep it through dubious means, but also some slice of life instances with the both of them as a couple! Some real zest and flair to that aspect, too- think Morticia and Gomez Addams. Madly in love with each other, but certainly rather dark.. though I doubt these two hesitate to harm normal folk.
Now, I do admit I have some musts for roleplay; though I do admit they're small: I only play with and in the 3rd person, and you must be able to at least have 2 paragraphs per response. I understand if real life or tiredness means that you're unavailable at any specific times, that I won't bother to enforce; though warnings are appreciated.
And, of course, kinks and limits are below.
Kinks: Consent, Foreplay, Passion, Kissing, Lipstick, Marking, Biting, Light Bondage, Breeding Play, Light Femdom, Dirty Talk, Oral (Giving), Breast Play, Anal, Rough, Pet Names, Size Difference, Lactation/Milking
Limits: Sexual Gore, Bathroom Play, Underage/Ageplay, Non-con, Rape, Feet, Vore

2023.06.05 13:52 pianobear82 More lies come to light four years later.
Hi folks, first day here, and feeling comfort in reading other people’s stories. I’ve got a long story and I’m not familiar with the acronyms, so forgive me for these things.
For context, I’m 40 (she/her), my husband is 39 (he/him), we had one kid at the time, and have another kid now.
My husband (let’s call him James) and I have been together for 20 years; we’re now 40. We had an amazing and drama-free relationship for the first twelve years, though it was sometimes riddled with bad habits we had inherited from our parents (being defensive, dismissive, reactive, and not taking care of our own mental health and nervous systems). He was my best friend, we had so much fun together, and brought out the best in each other.
Our relationship took a nose dive when our son was born in 2015. I saw an immediate change in James when I went into labour: he became very spacey, and subsequently forgetful and inconsiderate. I in turn became more reactive and we had arguments nearly every day. In 2018 he had a mental health breakdown, and he came out to me as bisexual. I was immediately celebratory, though in finding out that good friends of ours knew for months before I did, I started doubting my instincts and my sense of reality.
Things continued to spiral due to my husband’s mental health crisis. James took a huge leave of absence from work, and we started sleeping in separate rooms. Me expressing any amount of my own feelings to him, even if they weren’t ABOUT him, sent him into a catatonic state for days. He asked me that we not have any conversations at all unless it was in the presence of our therapist, so that his nervous system could heal and his meds could take affect; this was a direction, James said, that was coming from his own psychiatrist. I did not like this and knew my own mental health would be greatly affected by holding in my thoughts and feelings 90% of the time, but I agreed in the hopes he’d get better, and that I’d deal with my own mental health later.
Then in 2019, on the eve of our 10-year wedding anniversary, I found out he had cheated on me, and had given me an STI. I spent our 10-year wedding anniversary getting stabbed in the butt with a needle in a strange clinic. While James suggested we separate, instead we decided to immediately open our marriage. While I thought an open marriage would suit us well in the long run, it felt dangerous to implement it while we were in crisis, but it seemed better than my husband walking out on us. Our open marriage boundaries were: we both got two nights out a week to do with what we wanted, we had to be home by 3 am, we had to give full disclosure and we had to check in about hooking up with people who were in our social/work circles. These boundaries were far looser than I would have liked but way more stringent than what he asked for. He was rarely home on time, and would usually text me when he was already an hour late. He told me I could never yell at him again, and couldn’t sit in the despair of the infidelity. He also blamed me for his mental illness, told me there was “always something” we had to fix in our marriage and he was tired of fighting for it. He was callous and careless and prioritized himself over the needs of our family every step of the way. This lasted for about five months and was not remotely the marriage I wanted to be in - I was truly running on adrenaline as I tried to juggle this, work, and our kid, but I did it in the hopes that James would recover his mental health one day, and that I would once again recognize this person.
Well, it happened, literally overnight. His psychiatrist increased James’ medication, and all of a sudden he was his old self again. I’m talking, mannerisms came back, old turns of phrases, and his actual care and concern about people who weren’t himself, including me. Overnight he became a considerate partner again, and the man I had married. He started expressing his disconnect from his unwell time, and told me he had trouble remembering much of it. As the pandemic hit we closed our marriage, and I began my own healing. It’s been a hard road personally but he has been amazing at standing by me and supporting me through healing from HIS actions. We’ve had a very calm and amazing three and a half years with very healthy communication, respecting of each other’s needs and boundaries, and a very deep emotional and physical connection. During this time, we’ve reopened our marriage a few times, with new boundaries that worked for both of us. The openness and honesty we achieved during these times was really wonderful.
Fast forward to now: Our marriage is currently closed as we’ve moved to another part of the country, started a business together, and had another baby. I wouldn’t have made any of these decisions if I hadn’t felt so secure in where we are as a couple now, but recently my intuition was piqued and I snooped on his phone. During this snoop, I found out that James, during his period of illness, had hooked up with a guy in our social and professional circles, and then lied to me about it, and had never told me in the years since. Finding out in retrospect that James had violated every one of our set boundaries for our open marriage sent me reeling. I came clean to him about snooping, and we started therapy again. Very quickly I felt much better, knowing how sick he had been during that time, and how different he was now. BUT then, not two weeks later, while on his phone for something unrelated, a text message caught my eye, and I read it. Turns out a new friend of his kissed him recently, and James didn’t tell me. When I confronted him about this, he was pretty shocked at himself that he had compartmentalized it so much that it didn’t even occur to him to tell me. James and I had even recently talked about this friend and about how James wasn’t sure if he was attracted to this guy or not. It would have been the perfect opportunity to tell me about the kiss, but he didn’t. And finally, after that, I snooped one more time and found out that, during his illness, he had hooked up with his best friend who was my only veto. I watched James find out that information and he seemed shocked, confused, scared, and said he was going crazy because he has no memory of this hookup.
Now I feel broken. I worked so hard to be an understanding and accepting partner, and have literally never gotten mad about anything that he has been upfront about. What’s worst of all is how this anger is manifesting in me. It feels so uncomfortable to sit in anger towards him that I’m turning it inwards on myself, and blaming myself for “making such a big deal” over things that happened four years ago, and then the recent “just a kiss”. My instincts tell me this recent mistake was a one-off and that he is not that sick person anymore, but I still don’t know how to learn to trust him again.
We’re in therapy again but I feel conflicted about that as well - last time we were in therapy, our therapist was very good at keeping things on equal footing, but now that I know my husband was still lying to me that whole time, it feels useless, and I question the point of therapy now.
We had twelve good years, followed by three increasingly worse years, followed by THE worst year of my life, followed by the best four years of my life. There have been more good years than bad, but I still feel so much shame over the year I spent bending to every whim of his: shame that I didn’t support him as well as I could have, yet shame that I stayed when many other people might have left. I have worked so hard to overcome the trauma of those terrible two years but now I doubt if I can ever fully shake it, or ever fully trust him again.
So … how do I sit in anger towards him, and how does that anger get resolved? How do I learn to trust him again, and will it necessarily be blind trust?
Thank you for your care in reading this.

2023.06.05 13:40 Successful-Ad-4563 My brother dug up my dead pet and I'm disgusted
I recently had a week long break a way just to have some relaxation time after a stressful few months. My brother (40) volunteered to keep an eye on my place as he lives close by so I agreed.
Although we were close as kids, his behaviour as an adult caused us to drift apart.
He was a total lay about for years until he accidentally knocked up his much younger now ex girlfriend. He has a decent job now but lives in an absolute tip and spends his free time high out of his mind, even when looking after his son (4). He's a know it all and will get ridiculously pissed off if corrected.
Anyway, for 5 years I had a very much loved pet chicken, she unfortunately fell ill about 3 months ago and I had her put to sleep and brought her home to bury near her favourite bush in my garden. I made sure that she was buried deep enough in a box and wrapped in a cloth and even put chillies and garlic in with her as it apparently deters other animals from digging up the remains.
I came home this morning and went into my garden and I saw her box on the grass, I went over and her grave had been dug up and just near it was her remains and a small garden shovel.
I phoned my brother to ask him wtf had happened and he just straight up said that him and his son had dug her up because he wanted to show his son what her remains looked like now.
I have reburied her and banned him from my house. I am absolutely disgusted by what he has done. He knew how much I loved Daisy and how heartbroken I was when I had to make the difficult decision to put her to sleep.
It disgusts me that he just left her remains out on the lawn for me to find.

2023.06.05 13:39 Low_Tailor_5752 Can someone please reaffirm me?
I'm sorry if this sub is not built for that or anything, but I'm getting really paranoid and scared. My magical thinking intrusive thoughts feel really real, with a dissociative disorder it's already very difficult to make connections with your perceived reality and this whole time it's felt like the thoughts have been a sort of demon or negative individual in my head despite how unrealistic it is. I am always told whether I can or can't do something, I have so many rules and ompulsions and it is all based around my relationship.
I hate myself for ever trying to combat it. I feel scared now. I know it's very irrational, I'd have to somehow be special for something like that to be targetting me, and I know I am not.. but I want any way to know I am real and it maybe is OCD.
All the compulsions line up and all the symptoms do, but it's only centered around my relationship.. In the first 1-4 months, it was very stressful and I was anxious of every single feminine thing I saw, so I developed to click "not interested" on them all or block any account of a girl it seemed like he would like, not that they would come after him and try to date him instead if I didn't, but my brain would tell me that a girl like that one would come into his life and make him leave me for them if I didn't. I tried to follow every compulsion no matter how stressful or how high I had to count to get it to go away, but at a point it was unintelligible and impossible to understand what they wanted, and sometimes things were "tricks". I had to do the action halfway, wait until it was made clear that the action was put there to get me to do it and destroy my relationship somehow in this unrelated thing, or do it and then undo it/do something to make up for or " cleanse" it.
I'm really tired of all of this. For the past few days, I've had fears that I need to break up with him before I can be free. These made me more distressed because I didn't want to and we were literally going to get married, we wanted to be together forever and he even wanted me to convert to his religion so we could go to heaven together. I don't understand what happened, but the next morning I woke up he told me he suddenly lost all feelings for me and that he didn't deserve me. That feels like an excuse and I don't really know the reasoning for it.. Lately, I went against the thoughts.. I didn't click "not interested" on every thing before leaving apps and sometimes I ignored compulsions or did stuff I couldn't anyway, it felt fine enough at the time, but that suddenly happened right after I had a horrible nightmare and I woke up to him leaving me on seen for 4 hours, then right when I woke up he messaged me and I was freaking out a little because he didn't, n then he started acting really weird and told me that eventually. It changed so fast that I'm really maybe stupidly scared. We have a long distance relationship so I guess that makes it more difficult.
Everyone has a different perspective on this kind of stuff, I personally believe and have always wanted to believe that no one is watching over you, that you should be able to live your life freely without the expectations that some parts of society have put down on you due to there being a "god" in their eyes and they often just use it to control you and don't really speak through gods mouth, just their own and they use it to spread hate and control people and everything.. I hate being in a paranoid state, when I was, it felt like one of the worst times of my life, I felt like I wasn't a human being and that other hurtful human beings were demons coming after me, that they were all watching me and targeting me, that I was put here in my depersonalized body as a punishment for my sins and that I somehow killed the original person living inside of it, I felt everything was a sign from the universe and constant torturing.. I never felt connected to the world, I never saw my mom as my mom and I never felt real. I'm scared to go back there and I'm scared of everything.
I over attached and depended my life on him so it's making me feel very weird now.. I thought we would last till we were old and have kids together I really don't get what happened. We've broken up all around 6 times but this time we were doing the best we ever did and he told me that he thought we could make it, that it was okay that we broke up because we understood each other better now and it was true. I shouldn't care so much but I guess Its very hard.
sorry that this is so uncoordinated and stupid.. I don't know why but I'm having such difficulty disconnecting from them.
