2023.06.06 22:48 Alternative_Yak_4897 ADVICE: Best knee brace/sleeve for chronic Hoffa's fat pad syndrome for exercise?
Hi! Does anyone have a recommendation for the best type of knee brace or sleeve for me to wear while exercising (walking/running/ballet)? I was diagnosed with Hoffa's fat pad syndrome when I was 11 due to over-use from always landing on my right leg in figure skating jumps. I ran cross country through high school and would ice shins and knees everyday- no significant knee problems. I'm 30 now and about 6 months ago (a year after moving to a big city with lots of walking) my right knee swelled up again like it did when I was 11 and painful and more pain when bending it. I'm now afraid to run or dance again until I have proper support for my knee because everytime I try my right knee hurts and swells up. I always ice it whenever it starts hurting and is painful to bend. Any recommendations? Should I see a sports medicine doctor first?

2023.06.06 22:46 Fun_Catch_502 Prostockhockeysticks review
I bought a 3rd line pshs right handed 70 flex pro97 or mcdavid curve. I've been seeing stuff about their sticks for a while and decided to get a 3rd line one because they were 109 vs like 180 for a full custom. I am impressed coming from a ft5 pro previously. The curve is great for me, it is a lie 4 so it feels natural for me to stick handle with because I stick handle with my hands away from my body and prefer the lower lies. I was coming from a p90tm and it was not to much different curve wise besides the pro97 had a slightly shorter blade, 1 lie lower, and more of a square toe. I think these are positive changes but I have yet to use this stick in the ice. Another thing to note is that this stick felt whippier than my CCM 70 flex. For me the pshs I bought feels like a Bauer 70 flex because it feels whipper than CCM and Bauer's feel whipper than CCM for me. I will update this tonight after my first skate with it.

2023.06.06 22:13 Flat-Entrepreneur619 Can't mount plate flat on boot? (Artistic/Figure boots)
| Hi! I'm trying to mount quad plates on a pair of Edea boots for figure/artistic skating, but the sole of the boot is nowhere near flat. When I place my plates on the sole of the boot, there is about 7mm/0.25" of space between the sole of the boot and the plate at the point where the front mounting screws will go. What is the best way to handle this kind of mount? I was hoping to use the screws that came with the boots. These are similar to the screws that ice blades are mounted with - the screw goes through the plate directly into the sole of the boot from the outside, and the screw itself holds the plate on, instead of a nut. These screws are pretty short, however, and my worry is that there wouldn't be enough threads in the sole to hold the plate on securely. - Will the sole flatten out as I mount it? I've mounted other high-top skates like that where it has, but these boots are quite stiff.
- Is there some kind of shim that I should be putting between the plate and the sole of the boot?
- Should I be using traditional roller skate mounting hardware (a bolt from the inside of the boot and a nut on the outside or a T-nut inside the boot) instead of the Edea hardware?
Thanks!! https://preview.redd.it/u3t4ozgveg4b1.jpg?width=4080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a1c8a42d7041fb8cf5aa74b9f2cde51c53a37d6e submitted by Flat-Entrepreneur619 to Rollerskating [link] [comments] |

Does anyone have PolyGlide Ice at home?
Pros? Cons?
We live in TX and the ice time can get a bit expensive. Wondering the effects it has on skates and if it feels similar to the ice to play on.

2023.06.06 21:28 holliefishhh Help me find a game from my childhood!
Hi everyone, not sure if this fits here but worth a shot. As the title says I’m trying to find these computer games I used to play probably 10-15 years ago. It was a website with several computer games, all in very feminine, watercolor-style rendering. Here’s a couple I remember, from most to least helpful:
- You’re a bird falling in a little green leaf down from a tree. You can briefly stop the fall to collect something (I don’t remember what, maybe water droplets?) and those help you score points on your way down.
- You’re a bird (again) walking along the grass and your baby birds are trailing you. You jump to avoid obstacles or to catch rewards, and sometimes you pass little eggs that hatch and it’s a new baby bird to join the line and follow you to collect rewards.
- You’re a frog jumping from lily pad to lily pad trying not to fall in the water.
- I think one game had to do with ice skating, very little memory of this one but just trying to word vomit anything out that might help.
Thanks in advance for any help, I want so badly to play these again but just can’t find them!

2023.06.06 20:56 IkwilPokebowls I live here. Would people like to go for a cache/hotel at the end of our land (right side of water), which would be only reachable by boat (or ice skating)?
| It’s in a rural area, not many caches here. Cachers would have to bring their own boat, it’s possible to put it in the water next to the road/bridge (not in the picture). You can’t swim in the water and the place would not be reachable by land. Would people like this? submitted by IkwilPokebowls to geocaching [link] [comments] |
2023.06.06 20:24 kaitly_n Safe spots to get blades mounted + sharpened in Bristol and London (that aren't as far as everglides)?
Not sure where else to ask this as everyone I've met from the rink in Bristol travels there from a distance. The skate shop at Bristol Planet Ice doesn't seem super knowledgeable about figure skates so I'm scared to go there. (I've heard bad things about Planet ice but I guess there was another rink here that shut down, and I love skating here lol)
If everglides is the most safe then I can get there I would just rather not have that be the only option, but I'm understanding that some people have to mail their skates so a 2 hour bus ride there and 2 hour bus ride back might be how it is for skating
I'll be mounting Rev p99s

2023.06.06 19:14 balderstash Golden Horse inlines initial impressions
| I've seen a couple other folks asking about inlines so I figured I'd share my initial impressions of these. I got the Golden Horse "magic" boot with inlines, size 5B. I didn't do the custom fit option but I did send in photo measurements, and they recommended the B width instead of the C I had chosen. The fit is perfect and I'm super happy with it. Wheels feel very weird! The rocker is adjustable but right now I just have them flat while I acclimate. In general I feel like it takes a lot more muscle to move around. They're heavy, but not as bad as I was preparing for. They have a very weird smell to them, very factory fresh. Definitely hoping that subsides after a few skate sessions. The construction quality looks good so far, obviously it will take some time to see how they really hold up. They definitely feel more plasticky than my Jacksons or Edeas, especially the sole & heel which is just tan plastic. They feel so much different than ice that it's hard to think of them as any kind of replacement for ice, but I can see them being useful for keeping up leg strength if you can't get on the ice much in the off season. They're definitely fun though, and I'm looking forward to heading out with some friends and putting them through their paces. submitted by balderstash to FigureSkating [link] [comments] |

2023.06.06 14:52 b33zintreez Ice skating rinks in November?
Hello.
I'm visiting Paris in November this year and I was wondering about ice rinks. I'm aware that there are pop up ones that appear around winter but unsure of the dates that they are put up so I'm looking for one that's more reliable. Does anyone have any ideas? We will be near the 8th arr. but happy to travel around Paris as I would like to be able to skate while we're there.
Thanks!

2023.06.06 14:12 MysticInept ELI5 why are crossovers faster?
Hello,
I started ice skating this year at almost 40 (just moved from the southwest to the north and we found out we really like it and hockey).
I'm working on crossovers, and I get that I need to learn them and they come up as a hockey skating topic a lot (I might try playing in the future). I get that they are supposed to be faster on a curve.
But I'm having trouble visualizing why. Suppose I am practicing going clockwise on the center circle. Intuitively, it seems balancing on my right foot outer edge and generating force by pushing off with my left foot would be faster than pushing off with left foot, crossing over, small push with right foot, bringing right foot back, pushing off with left...
what am I missing? Apologies ahead of time for being a little obtuse. I'm not a kinesthetic learner, so I don't pick up physical things intuitively.

2023.06.06 13:36 MonsterBash716 Improving\fixing a 9 year old player's Hockey Stride
So my daughter has been on skates since 4 and started playing hockey around 6. It wasn't until about 6 months ago she started to REALLY taking interested in the game and wanting to improve...and most importantly willing to work at it. We've done quite a few clinics and shoot 100s of pucks a week in the basement over those last 6 months. She's not an naturally athletic persons and has to work hard on darn near everything
She has greatly improved in all aspects of the game (actually beyond my expectations), can pick corners amazingly well..and her edge work has caught up with the higher level players of her age. Her 'starts' are acceptable and constantly working on that.
Where she lacks horribly is her stride..she still 'runs' on the ice.
She fine playing house and even travel, but it's super noticeable playing in the higher level spring select teams
We've watched videos...worked on it on the ice together...livebarned stuff...clinics...skating coaches... slide board..etc. I just can't breaker her of the habit.
There's a local speed skating school that offers some discounted lessons for young kids that wanna try it. I figure they probably have the perfect skating stride and might be able to crack her. We might try that but they don't start for quite a few months
So I'm looking for some advice from the experts here... tips...tricks...suggestion or maybe that one little thing that will make it go 'CLICK' for her. Dryland would be a plus as we're taking a month break from the ice. But anything and everything welcomed!
Thanks!!!

2023.06.06 12:27 Reimustein When to use "auf" and "in"?
I had to translate, "Is ice skating in the street fun?"
My answer was, "Macht Eislaufen in der Straße Spaß?"
But I was corrected to, "Macht Eislaufen AUF der Straße Spaß?"
Why is "auf" used here and not "in"?

2023.06.06 11:16 DejaVu__ VGN F1 Pro Max from Mechkeys arrived.
| Mouse arrived 4-5 days ago and been using it since. I'm really impressed with the performance. The build quality is great as well. No creaking , side flex or anything. Clicks feel good and sharp and mouse wheel as well. Only downside for some might be that it is pretty loud but I personally don't really care. The coating is decent not anything special, didn't expect much at this price though but since my hands are not getting sweaty I didn't have a big issue. Only real problem (that can be solved easily) for me are the mouse feet, they are pretty bad even after breaking them in. I ordered some tiger ice skates to replace them. Battery is HUGE, it's still at like 85%. Overall it's a great mouse for its price. Also if you're from EU like me you won't have any problems with customs whatsoever if you order from Mechkeys and delivery is 7-10 days. I know that there are delays with shipping since it's limited on the market but I hope it's gonna get resolved soon so more people can get their hands on it. submitted by DejaVu__ to MouseReview [link] [comments] |
