Once back there, I was so starstruck and amazed that she remembered my name! She was so kind and took pictures with me and my dad, signed a photo, gave me the set list, and wrapped it up by giving me a hug and kiss on the cheek. She spent probably an hour with us just hanging out in her room and chatting. To this day, it's one of my most cherished memories."

Good evening, u/redco_moderncallout. I am going to put this out there first: This is a GOOD update, though many people will disagree because of the new business model with Shanix and in-app purchases, and the new crate system. The transition from Apple Arcade to App Store immediately opens up the doors for more people to play, but the game is still exclusive to Apple devices, which is a shame and will hopefully expand even further soon so that Android and other phone users can join us. The transition was hard on the game though, and it seems less optimized now. Before we get into that, let's first list some pros and cons of the new update:
Pros:
The new cards - Hands down the best part of the update, just like any other update.
• Galvatron opens up the possibilities for the addition of other Unicron minions such as Scourge and Cyclonus. He operates interestingly, approaching a structure while firing at any units in his path, transforming into a Fusion Beam Turret cannon that chips away a structure's health. I wish the beam of Galvatron's cannon mode built up damage over time just like the Fusion Beam Turret and damaged any units in its trajectory as well.
• Blackarachnia seems more practical on paper than in game, stunning 3 units at once but not doing much else. However, it is her appearance that is more interesting, notably the fact that her design is inspired by Animated Blackarachnia. Does this mean we might get more characters from Transformers: Animated in the future? Does this mean we might get Lugnut from Animated as a proper Mega Knight from Clash Royale (Optimal Optimus does not count), like proposed before? Does this mean we might see Blitzwing with three modes (and personalities), or Bulkhead added to this game? The possibilities are endless. But for Blackarachnia, I would consider lowering her Energon cost to 3 from 4.
• Jetfire is an interesting concept and was my most hyped card to see added to this game, but unfortunately, he does not do much. He's pretty squishy, doesn't deal any damage (no rocket or laser attacks), and deploys squishy Autobot Elite Infantry that I fail to see how elite it is compared to regular Auobot Infantry. I would have loved to see some kind of Stun attack added to the electrical gauntlets the Autobot Elite Infantry units wear, which would immediately make the card better. However, his 5 Energon cost and ability to deploy units from anywhere in the Arena actually makes him a viable card.
• Rhinox is exciting to see added to this game, especially considering how much I love his design in Rise of the Beasts. For 5 Energon, he is basically a better version of Bumblebee, but after all the running and smashing, his regular attack seems slow and underwhelming. I think Rhinox should have a ranged and a melee attack for his Chainguns. After smashing into a structure, instead of shooting at it, Rhinox would drill like Bonecrusher using his Chainguns. Once the structure is destroyed, Rhinox would use his Chainguns to shoot from a range of 4 or 5 at any threats or any other structures in range. Rhinox would again switch to his drilling melee attack if a melee-based enemy unit would run up to him.
The new interface - It is obvious that the new interface is designed with the idea of adding more content in future updates, which is always a win. The current white frame could be customized into an orange or red Autobot version, a purple or black Decepticon version, an Earth/human version (inspired by the Terran interface from StarCraft), or a green Quintesson version, and so on. The menu is different and yet easy to navigate. More options could be added to the main menu, like more proposed game modes and Battle Log. The new leaderboard system only took a minute to adjust to. The only negative is the 3 crate slots, but that is coming up, believe it. No other complaints in this department.
All other new content - It's also nice to see the additions of a new Earth City arena, a new banger Music track (is the title 5KYL1N3 supposed to be a reference to Sky Lynx?), new Emotes, etc. The new Shanix currency is interesting. The graphics options in the Settings seem to be working properly now (hint: Turn your fps from 30 to 60, it will make the gameplay much smoother). There’s not much else to say, new content is always good.
Cons:
I understand crate hoarding was bound to be nerfed, but to only 3 crate slots? That is simply not enough. And players have to unlock each crate individually, with a Common one taking 3 HOURS to open, and a Mega one taking 15 HOURS to open? Most players probably do what I do and play until they win 5 games a day, at which point they stop for the day. AT LEAST increase the total number of crate slots from 3 to 5 and make it an option to start opening ALL crates at once, with their respective timers, instead of one at a time. The way crates are implemented right now is hurting both new players and returning players who have not maxed out before the transition by setting boundaries that weren’t there before, and that is not good for the game. Add more crate slots and implement simultaneous crate opening or bring crate hoarding back.
No balance changes - Not a single card was reworked in this update, and I don't know how to feel about that. On one hand, I'm glad my deck will remain the same with no necessary modifications. On the other, the stale Chaser meta remains for us to continue suffering through.
Connection issues: I NEVER had this game crash on me before, but just today, after playing for 30 minutes, the game crashed 3 times, all 3 resulting in defeats, tanking my ranking.
Optimization issues: This game is harder on my battery now. I play on low graphics settings with 30 fps. Before the transition, one game would cost 1% of battery life. Playing three games took me down from fully charged at 100% down to 93%. That doesn’t seem like a lot, but the game wasn’t like this, which made it playable for hours. Now it overheats the phone, which leads to lagging and crashes. There are also weird visual bugs that happen whenever a unit is deployed. A Chaser plays an explosion animation but doesn't actually explode when deployed, Autobot Infantry explode like they die but don't actually die when deployed, Wheeljack's Graviton Grenade floats above his head when first deployed, weird bugs like that which didn't exist before the update.
Sudden lack of indicators: Drop Squad and Neutron Bomb now have no indicators of where they are going to drop. This is a big deal especially for Drop Squad, because if you have your volume off, you will not see a Drop Squad approaching until they are on top of your turret, beating the scrap out of it. Return the indicators.
Also, it seems like there were a bunch of "ghost" nerfs and buffs to cards that weren't announced in the Patch Notes. For example, Prowl's rockets sometimes do not deal knockback damage (happened to me twice after the update), Drop Squad does not have an indicator of where the Autobot Infantry units will land now, which causes major confusion and does not allow for immediate countering, and Chasers appear to deal more knockback now (for example, the Sharkticons scatter more on hit now). There may be more I have not encountered yet. I don't know if these are just glitches or not, but the Drop Squad is now OP because of the lack of indicators. I remember this was an issue in the first version of the game, and wonder if Red Games Co. made the same mistake two years later when re-releasing the game.
There is also a misspelling in the Shop in the ORE-13 section. The titles go “Mountain of ORE-13”, “Mouthful of ORE-13”, and “Mountain of ORE-13”, but they don’t match their respective pictures, the first one showing a mouthful, the second showing a truckload, and the third showing a mountain. That’s an issue that is easy to fix.
There are other issues I have not encountered but am sure others have. My biggest complaint is how long it took to deliver this update. It has been 5 months since the January update when Prowl and the Battlechargers were added. 5 months later, and the Battlechargers still cost 5 Energon and have their massive alt modes. With time leaps like this, it’s almost impossible to actually fix this game and implement any changes to fix broken cards and make older cards useful again. Not every update needs a ton of new content to be added, sometimes we just need a balance patch to literally “patch” some things up. People have been complaining about the Chasers for almost a year now, why haven’t they been nerfed yet? Why is Blurr still 4 Energon? Why is Airazor still useless? It’s subtle things like this that ruin the game more than game-breaking glitches do. I told u/picopede a long time ago that the best way to update this game would be to publish small, frequent updates that would always spice things up. New cards would continue to be added, but it feels like with every new content update, the game itself is getting worse. Focus on fixing the game before adding anything new and do it quickly before the game dies.
In the end, what I'm getting out of all of this is that the transition from Apple Arcade to regular App Store was hard on the game and the community. It was definitely worth it, but, as expected, there is a lot of adapting that needs to happen on the players’ side and a lot of work/fixing that needs to happen on Red’s part. There are major game-breaking issues present in the game right now that prevent me from recommending it to anyone, and the new monetization strategy is insulting. Please consider implementing the changes proposed in this post, especially when it comes to crates and progression.

This is a big deal especially for Drop Squad, because if you have your volume off, you will not see a Drop Squad approaching until they are on top of your turret, beating the scrap out of it. Return the indicators.
Also, it seems like there were a bunch of "ghost" nerfs and buffs to cards that weren't announced in the Patch Notes. For example, Prowl's rockets sometimes do not deal knockback damage (happened to me twice after the update), Drop Squad does not have an indicator of where the Autobot Infantry units will land now, which causes major confusion and does not allow for immediate countering, and Chasers appear to deal more knockback now (for example, the Sharkticons scatter more on hit now). There may be more I have not encountered yet. I don't know if these are just glitches or not, but the Drop Squad is now OP because of the lack of indicators. I remember this was an issue in the first version of the game, and wonder if Red Games Co. made the same mistake two years later when re-releasing the game.
There is also a misspelling in the Shop in the ORE-13 section. The titles go “Mountain of ORE-13”, “Mouthful of ORE-13”, and “Mountain of ORE-13”, but they don’t match their respective pictures, the first one showing a mouthful, the second showing a truckload, and the third showing a mountain. That’s an issue that is easy to fix.
There are other issues I have not encountered but am sure others have. My biggest complaint is how long it took to deliver this update. It has been 5 months since the January update when Prowl and the Battlechargers were added. 5 months later, and the Battlechargers still cost 5 Energon and have their massive alt modes. With time leaps like this, it’s almost impossible to actually fix this game and implement any changes to fix broken cards and make older cards useful again. Not every update needs a ton of new content to be added, sometimes we just need a balance patch to literally “patch” some things up. People have been complaining about the Chasers for almost a year now, why haven’t they been nerfed yet? Why is Blurr still 4 Energon? Why is Airazor still useless? It’s subtle things like this that ruin the game more than game-breaking glitches do. I told u/picopede a long time ago that the best way to update this game would be to publish small, frequent updates that would always spice things up. New cards would continue to be added, but it feels like with every new content update, the game itself is getting worse. Focus on fixing the game before adding anything new and do it quickly before the game dies.
In the end, what I'm getting out of all of this is that the transition from Apple Arcade to regular App Store was hard on the game and the community. It was definitely worth it, but, as expected, there is a lot of adapting that needs to happen on the players’ side and a lot of work/fixing that needs to happen on Red’s part. There are major game-breaking issues present in the game right now that prevent me from recommending it to anyone, and the new monetization strategy is insulting. Please consider implementing the changes proposed in this post, especially when it comes to crates and progression.

Note: This story is meant to be read after completing DDLC Plus. All credit for the original DDLC and DDLC Plus characters and world goes to their creator. Some concepts like the Universal Constructor are also borrowed from other series (most notably the original Deus Ex), though its use in this story is my own idea. My original characters in this story will deliberately not be named and their descriptions will be kept vague, so anyone reading this who wants to see themselves in one of the original characters can more easily do so. Here is Part 24 of Digital Reality. The Literature Club finally gets to put on the festival. Will their words have an impact on any of the MES engineers? Will they get Monika back?
Part 24: Digital Poetry
The Literature Club members all stood together in the club room and waved a greeting to the group in the MES conference room.
“Hi everyone!” Sayori began, “On behalf of the Literature Club, thank you for joining us today. I’m Sayori, and this is Yuri, MC, Natsuki, and our newest member, Sayuri. Though our club president Monika isn’t here right now, we’ve all written poems to share with you today.”
“Don’t forget the cupcakes,” Natsuki added, “I don’t usually share it, but you should have my recipe for the best cupcakes ever in the packets you have. I made some for us to share here, but since we don’t have a way to send them to the real world, I figured sharing the recipe was the next best thing!”
The MES engineers flipped through the packets on the table in front of them.
“A cupcake recipe?” asked Rea Vorte with surprise, “You can’t just make cupcakes appear in the simulation?”
“No,” Natsuki replied, “Knowing what we now know about our world I know why you would think that, but I’ve always made my cupcakes with a recipe and ingredients.”
“Interesting,” Ro Teether said, “I would not have expected the simulation to go into that level of detail.”
“I think the original script contained an event in which the characters can bake cupcakes, so that may be where it comes from,” replied Ive Laster.
Paula Miner sat silently, looking intently at the recipe page. After a few moments she looked up.
“I’m by no means an expert baker, but reading through this recipe it does look like it would work,” Miner said, glancing from Laster to Natsuki, “Your secret ingredient is rather interesting, too.”
Natsuki smiled, “That’s how I’ve always made them.”
“By the way, since we’re on a two-way connection, can they see us?” Miner asked.
“Sort of,” the FXI President replied, “They’ve told me when I’ve been connected to the system that I appear as a fuzzy silhouette to them.”
“Yeah, we can’t see you exactly, but we know you’re there,” Sayori confirmed.
Miner nodded slowly. “Very well. We’ll need to chat about this cupcake recipe more later. Please continue.”
“Okay!” Sayori said, “We’ve each written a poem that we’re going to share with you today. There’s no particular theme that connects them all, but with everything that we’ve learned in the past week we thought that writing was a good outlet for our thoughts and emotions.”
“MC has agreed to start today’s event by sharing his haiku, entitled ‘Poem About Poetry’,” Sayori continued.
MC stepped to the front of the group. He looked down at his piece of paper and then back up at the group as he began to speak.
“I’m far from as good of a writer as some of the other members you’ll hear from today, but that just means that the quality can go up from here,” MC said in a self-deferential tone, “This is a poem I wrote about the creative process of writing poetry.”
He winked at Sayori as he began to read.

Natsuki grinned. “Wow, you didn’t take my advice about not just throwing random words on a page, you literally wrote a poem about it!”
“Haiku is an interesting choice,” Teether said, “It shows an understanding of syllables and structure, and I find it very ‘meta’ that you would choose to create a poem about poetry.”
MC nodded, “My past poetry has been accused of being nothing more than twenty random words on a page, so I’m poking fun at myself a bit.”
“Well done, MC,” Sayori said, “That was a fun poem! Next up will be Yuri, with her poem called ‘The City.’”
Yuri stepped to the front of the group. She glanced to the side, looking slightly nervous. After a few moments, she seemed to gather her thoughts and looked toward the group. “My poem is not as straightforward as MC’s haiku, so I would prefer not to share the meaning until after you have had the opportunity to consider it for yourselves.”
She started to read, her voice becoming stronger and more confident with each word.
A city stood in the distance.
Shining lights, soaring towers.
A beautiful and magnificent place.
A place of honor and achievement
When viewed from afar with detachment.
Though upon arrival
The city unveils its truth.
There is no honor here.
Glowing lights
Are cold and artificial.
I thought I knew this place
But it treats me as a stranger.”
Yuri looked around the club room after she had finished speaking. An enigmatic smile of satisfaction crossed her face.
Sayori spoke up first. “Yuri, it seems like your poem could be about changes in perspective over time. Like going back to visit a neighborhood you’ve moved away from. You know things aren’t as they once were, but you still kind of feel lonely when you find that things have changed.”
Yuri nodded. “That’s part of it. We’ve all experienced a significant change recently as we’ve understood our world, and I struggled to find a way to describe what I was feeling. Places that had been familiar to me suddenly appeared different with the knowledge that this is a simulation.”
“So the AIs can not only write poetry but use metaphors and explain their meaning,” Teether observed, “Fascinating. Ive, you never told me that the entities in VM1 were capable of creativity like this.”
Laster shrugged, “Other than Monika, they were tied to the script until recently. Based on Monika’s behavior, we knew that at least she was capable of taking initiative and making changes to the world, but she was the only entity able to do that. The script included poetry, but we’ve never tasked the entities with creating original content.”
“This isn’t because of anything that the FXI team did, right?” Teether asked, “I know you mentioned that they were responsible for all of the entities gaining elevated access permissions. They didn’t extend the script or anything?”
“Yes and no,” the FXI CTO replied, “We restored files to the VM and added the ‘monitor kernel access’ permission to all of the characters, but we didn’t do any scripting. This is all them.”
Miner glanced between the FXI President and the FXI CTO with suspicion but said nothing.
Sayori took the pause as an opportunity to continue. “Thanks, Yuri. Natsuki will be next with her poem, ‘My Friends.’”
“Okay, time for my poem!” Natsuki said, “Mine is a bit more upbeat than Yuri’s.”

Each shines bright like a star
They’re my friends
That’s who they are
Old or new
Many or few
Friends are important
To me and you”
Natsuki smiled at the group, “You all inspired this poem. And by you all I mean both you all here in the club and our new FXI friends. You’ve made the literature club a place that I’ve enjoyed and a place of friendship.”
“I liked your poem, Natsuki,” Sayori said, “I’m glad you feel that way about your friends.”
A look somewhere between exhaustion and frustration came across Paula Miner’s face. “This is all well and good, but are we gathering any useful data from listening to an AI read a cute little poem like this?”
Natsuki glared at Miner and opened her mouth to offer what was certain to be a sarcastic retort, but Sayori pre-empted her.
“Are you not enjoying our poetry?” Sayori asked, sounding disappointed.
“The poetry is fine. I’ll even say it’s impressive for AI-generated content,” Miner replied, “But though your poems are interesting, we’re here to do a job, not study literature. And we need to gather useful data to justify our own jobs and this project’s existence. So tell me, Ive, are we getting useful data from this?”
Laster tapped a few keys on his laptop. “We’re recording this session and logging all data. It looks like there may be some interesting patterns of activity, but we won’t be able to say for sure until we analyze what we’ve got.”
“I’d imagine that you’re likely getting a lot of useful data,” the FXI President chimed in, “You’re not only gathering the data logs from VM1, but you can pair them with the recordings to understand what happens in the system when the AIs are allowed to interact and create on their own. I don’t know what your project goals are, of course, but in terms of AI research I’d think that there’s something you can get out of this.”
“There also may be something useful for our efforts to stabilize our connection to VM2,” Teether added, “If we can understand how entities operate when freed from a script in VM1, it may give us some clues as to how we might be able to interact with VM2.”
Miner considered for a moment and then nodded. “Perhaps you’re right. Ive, let’s just make sure we’re logging everything for future analysis.”
As the conversation once again died down, Sayori continued. “I’ll go next. My poem is called ‘A New Day’ and it’s about my journey with some personal challenges.”
She took a deep breath and began to recite her poem.
“Storms tried to block out the sun
The world was dark and gray.
It’s so hard to have any fun
When the clouds won’t go away.
But you never stopped trying
To shine through the darkness
Even when I was crying
You showed me kindness
It’s a new day now
Though the clouds aren’t gone
The sun shines somehow
I find the strength to carry on”
Sayori blinked away misty eyes as she finished reading. The other club members surrounded her in a group hug as she stepped back from the front of the room.
“That was a wonderful poem, Sayori,” MC said, “You share your feelings so well.”
“I liked that poem quite a bit,” Laster chimed in, “It’s got a great message of perseverance and hope even in challenging times.”
Sayori nodded. “I’ve been through a lot, but things are getting better now. My friends have been a huge source of support through all of this.”
“I really like your writing, Sayori,” Sayuri added, “Your poem is easy to read but the more you think about it, the more you feel the emotions you’re trying to convey.”
“Thanks, everyone. I appreciate your kind words,” Sayori replied, “And now for the finale of our festival I’d like to introduce our newest member, Sayuri, and her poem ‘What Remains.’”
Sayuri stepped to the front of the group. “I’ve been reading through classic poetry recently. Poems like Shelley’s ‘Ozymandias’ inspired me to write this one about what will stand the test of time in a time when so much is digital.”
Sayuri paused, looking around the room, before closing her eyes and reciting her poem from memory.
Ancient monuments that still stand
Classic portraits and landscapes grand
Such works are the legacies of the past
Physical objects that will last
But what will tell of this new age?
When are stories are gigabytes, not a printed page
A digital reality, its purpose completed
Leaves little trace if it’s deleted
If all that remains is a dusty drive
Will the future know we were alive?”
Sayuri opened her eyes as she finished. Both the club room and the MES conference room were silent as both groups took in her words.
“Wow, Sayuri,” Yuri said, breaking the silence, “That was incredible. I really loved the images you created with your words.”
The FXI President glanced around the conference room. Paula Miner’s expression had softened, and she appeared to be lost in thought. Ro Teether continued to look excited and intrigued by his observations of the Literature Club. The FXI CTO wore a satisfied smile. Ive Laster looked relaxed and relieved. And Rea Vorte was looking down at the conference table and shaking her head. Her expression was difficult to read.
Miner looked up at the screen showing the Literature Club. “I never thought an AI would generate content that would make me feel anything. But I have to say this has given me some things to think about. Ive, can you please confirm that we’ve logged all the data from this session?”
Laster nodded. “Yes, we’ve got everything. If this is the last big data gathering session we have before decommissioning VM1, I’d say it’s a pretty good one to go out on.”
“If this is truly AI-generated content, this seems like a new level of sophistication,” Teether mused, “It’s one thing to be able to generate text, but to be able to convey this kind of emotion and explain the meaning of metaphors is not a capability I’ve ever seen in AI.”
“It’s a little scary,” Rea Vorte added, “I don’t know that I like the idea of AI this sophisticated. Especially after what we saw Monika-”
“Let’s refrain from speculation,” Miner said, cutting Vorte off, “We can talk more about system capabilities later.”
“You think we’re scary?” Sayori said, looking sad, “We just wanted to share our writing with you. We just wanted to show that we’re not that different from you. We have feelings, emotions, and desires just like you do.”
“You’ve got my vote, for whatever it’s worth,” the FXI CTO said with a smile, “I’m not big into poetry, and I certainly had my concerns about sophisticated AI when I first encountered all of you. But the more I’ve interacted with and observed you the more I see how similar you are to us.”
Miner glanced sideways at the FXI CTO but said nothing.
“Can we please have Monika back now?” Natsuki asked.
Laster turned to Vorte, “Rea, please move Monika’s file back to VM1 by COB today. Let’s discuss how we can best move the entire simulation after we’re done here.”
“Thanks, Ive!” Natsuki said with a smile, “Sayori did a great job leading the club in Monika’s absence, but it will be good to have her back.”
Vorte looked up at Laster. Frustration was evident on her face. “Like I said before, let’s discuss that offline after we’re done here.”
Laster shrugged. “Fine. I’m not blaming you if there’s a problem by the way. If there’s an issue, we’ll work on it together.”
“Great job, everyone,” the FXI President said to the Literature Club, “We’re going to log off from VM1 now, but I’m sure we’ll talk again soon.”
The Literature Club members waved to the group in the MES conference room as the club room faded from the projection screen to be replaced with Laster’s desktop.
“I think we have a lot to discuss, and it’s going to take some time to unpack the implications of everything that we just saw,” Miner said, “I was skeptical of the value of this presentation at the start of this meeting, but I’m hopeful that we have gathered new and useful data from this session. Let’s all take a break for a bit and reconvene at six, which gives us an hour break. I want to discuss this further. Ro, can you please order in some dinner for the group? I think we’re going to have a long night.”

2023.06.02 00:30 bangbangsnipesnipe I was unfairly VAC banned from TF2 today after playing for almost 14 years. Surprisingly, Valve has already reversed the ban.

To preface this, there have been a ton of people on the official Steam forums and other places making topics today about how they were unfairly banned in the last 24 hours. I was personally afraid to make a topic after seeing a lot of the responses to them: "Just don't cheat." "VAC is 100% accurate, either you're lying about cheating or your account was hacked at some point because you didn't keep it secure." You know, things that really make you feel like you have the support of your fellow players. As stupid as it sounds, I've been having a terrible day because of it, because I love this game, and I've played it for so long that I wouldn't know what to do if I couldn't be a part of the community again, at least not without making a brand-new account and losing everything that I had.
I just logged in a few minutes ago and saw this notice saying that they unbanned me! You can't believe how much better this makes me feel; I've never cheated, never will, and having a mark on my account saying that I did was killing me. Almost no one ever believes the "I was unfairly banned" story, but here we are. I hope the other players who were making topics are getting unbanned, too, and that's part of why I made this topic, as I wanted to give them a heads up and hopefully give them some hope if theirs hasn't come through yet.

2023.06.01 23:36 chton State of the goblin tools: iOS app, recent updates, upcoming plans

Hi folks,
Nice to see you all here!
It's been a while and much has happened, so i figured it's time for an update about goblin.tools
First and foremost, a much requested milestone:
The iOS app is now available.
It has been quite a torturous road to get it going, involving renting mac minis and going out and buying an iPhone, but we made it! It's not very fancy, it's basically the website again like the android app is, but every purchase goes first of all towards keeping the website up and absolutely free. And, down the line, more native integrations with things :)

So what have you been up to then?

Aside from the app, much has happened on the site and android app! The Todo has seen lots of updates and bugfixes, the formalizer has been given new modes (including a generalized 'more professional', for the workplace), and the Chef has proven very popular. And naturally, i've broken it more times than i can count :D

Where are we today?

The site has been doing great. As long as i don't break it, the servers have been rock solid. For those among you who like numbers: In May, it had 330k visitors. The Todo list is by far the most used, outperforming the formalizer by a factor of 3 and the rest of the tools by about 6.

What's next?

I've had so many feature requests! Not all of them easy, some physically impossible, but I consider every single one. Upcoming soonish:
- more integrations with other apps, and export formats in general. It's not always easy, some thing like google keep just don't have any way to import todo entries, but i will try to find a way around those blockers.
- better language support. This is one of those that should be easy, but has proven surprisingly tough to do. It's top of the priority list, though! I have had so many requests for it, and it's always been a goal to make the tools available in as many languages as is feasible. The initial way will probably keep the interface of the site in english, but the tools should respond in the correct language.
- 'cloud sync'! Probably the most requested feature of all. it's also probably the riskiest and toughest one to get really right. I have a plan for how to do it with full client-side encryption, meaning your privacy will still be 100% secure, and i'm working it as we speak!
- making the todo-list more powerful. Integrating the estimator, allowing you to snooze and repeat items on it, and automatically prioritising are the immediate plans, and then more to come after!
- more tools, duh. As and when i come up with them :)

Frequently asked questions

I've had some questions many times, might as well give some more answers here :)
Where can i donate/what is your paypal? There is no donate button or place. At the moment i'm not taking donations. There are a few reasons for that. in large part, one of the reasons i can run the site without too much risk to myself and ensure a level of stability is that it's technically a product of my freelance consulting business. It means i operate as a company with goblin.tools as one of its products. This is great for me, and you! But Belgian law is a tough cookie, and taking donations for something as a business is complicated and messy. Likewise with letting other people code on it. App sales don't have that problem, they are easier to manage from an accounting standpoint. And the sales are doing well! They handily cover the cost of the hosting and APIs and such. So while i absolutely appreciate all the offers, they are not necessary and i would rather you pay them forward to a charity of your choosing!
I'm worried about my privacy Completely understandable! Privacy is a huge concern for me. I realise these are the kinds of sites people will just type deeply personal information into without thinking. For the site, i can say with certainty that i don't store any of your input anywhere. It doesn't go in any tracking, it is not logged anywhere, nada. I can not and will not see it, use it for training, or publish it anywhere. There are some analytics bits on the website (that also don't track you and can't be used for advertising or profiling), and even those are set up to exclude any text on the site. The tools in the backend use OpenAI's services. You know them from ChatGPT. What you use the tools' magic on does get sent to them in some way. Their privacy policy on anything sent through the APIs i use is that it not used for training or tuning. They store a copy of your data for a number of days only to have a log in case of abuse. This is their public policy and other companies depend on this being true, so i am inclined to believe them. Naturally you can disagree. I will also note that what they get is limited to your bit of text. They get no information about who submitted it, in what context, anything like that. The plan is still eventually to move to a self-hosted model, but at the current volume of the site, the quality of other models, and the compute costs of self-hosting, that is not going to be soon.
Can i share a link, use the goblin tools in lesson material, add it to resources on my site, or many other variations of this? Yes. Always. You don't even have to ask. My only requirements are that you don't try to profit off it, and that you don't give the impression that i or the tools endorse your site. You don't have to let me know if you do link it anywhere, but if it's somewhere unique or cool, i'd love to know! I like discovering new cool things :)
Can i use your API? Not at the moment. I'd love to publically open up the API eventually, but this is also somewhat complicated. Not on a technical level, but on a control, safety, usage, etc. level. Some background first: I’ve been a redditor for over 10 years. Started with main Reddit app, switched to Alien Blue, switched back to Reddit after they bought AB, then switched to Apollo and only kept Reddit around for weird edge cases. Third party apps getting killed July 1 might make me quit using Reddit on mobile, if not overall.
I’ve worked in mobile dev for almost that whole 10 years and am well aware of what it takes to build and maintain a big, complicated mobile app with lots of users and, though I have blind spots, have a legitimate list of complaints about Reddit on iOS that are largely highlighted here in this list of things that Apollo does better than Reddit for iOS (if the latter does them at all)
Here’s that list:
  1. Highlighting new accounts with how long since they were created
  2. Highlighting a post that’s had new comments since you viewed it (along with a count of those new comments)
  3. Option to mark posts as read and hide on scroll (like Alien Blue used to do iirc)
  4. Option to upvote posts on save
  5. Remembering comment and post sorts by subreddit along with ignoring default comment sort
  6. Sharing posts and comments as images
  7. Option to collapse automod comments

For context, after the ball joint failed initially, my plan was to fix the car and then sell it to pay off its loan. Due to the circumstances below I'm unsure how much I'll be able to sell the car for as it progressively gets into worse condition. Would it be worth pursuing a small claims case to try to recoup the lost value of the vehicle?

Timeline:

I have text/group message logs for most of the times I asked for updates and MGO did not reply with a straight answer. I have photos of the car when it got flooded, and then after it was damaged from being moved by MGO.

2023.06.01 20:31 sleepy_dyke_ Waiting for someone who may never be ready? (or want it?)

TLDR (first because this is a long one); I want to wait for someone who doesn't have the physical/mental capacity right now (and may never have the capacity) for a romantic relationship but I'm not sure if that's a good thing for me to do to myself any longer. Also, they might not even want me anymore haha.
I (she/her) just turned 22. The person I'm in love with is 23 (she/her). We met while I was living in her city but now I'm back home about 9ish hours away by car.
We dated briefly. I kinda ruined things by having alot of anxiety over being long distance once I would move back/continue traveling to new cities and being in an open relationship. My anxiety was caused by two things, 1) never being in something non-monogamous before and reckoning with my own ideas of what a relationship I am in should look like and 2) she once said something like "ideally, I could just have you to myself". That second one really got into my head. Now we are not dating but I've made it pretty obvious that my feelings haven't changed and while she hasn't told me to pull it back, she has not demonstrated a desire to return them.
I'm young and I plan to travel as much as I can in the near future. I like sex and I want to explore with different people and situations. She is mostly ace and has said before she wanted me to have the option to have my needs met with other people because she can't be expected to meet them. I think I could get used to being with other people and not be guilty about it, but the idea of not being exactly what she wants in a partner makes me think twice.
This is someone I could see myself building a life with. I love her and she is so patient with me despite having an exhausting life. When she has the energy she's really good at being a loving person. She has a ton of medical and disabilty stuff that makes day to day functioning incredibly hard. I really don't know how she does it and manages to still be around idiots like me. Granted, she rarely has the energy to put up with me, which is another thing that is hard to swallow and I feel guilty about wanting to be different.
I've gotten better and also it's been a trial by fire for my anxious attatchment issues haha, but I have to be careful not to message too much or ask to see her because it puts pressure on her to give more than she usually has. I want someone who I can call on the phone (which I've asked for but has never worked out) and plan weekend trips to see. I feel incredibly needy and sometimes I question if I'm just too much or if I'm being selfish. I've seen how consuming her disabilities can be and yet I'm over here feeling sorry for myself because she doesn't always reply back within 12 hours.
I don't know if there will ever be a right time for us. I don't know if I settle down and get a stable career and a permanant place to live and a better car and decide I don't need to explore more sexually, if she will want to be with me more. I want to want to move on. But no one else is her.
There have been alot of people in her life who have left her behind and she's told me that it's hard to love and trust because of that. I'm afraid of losing the chance of being with her because if I start seeing other people or someone else romantically, not just casually, she'll think that I don't want her or she wasn't enough. But I do want her. And I can wait as long as she wants if I just knew she wanted me. I don't even need the promise of a right time, because neither of us know if that's ever going to happen. I just want her to want me enough to ask. I have this idea in my head that if i find someone else, even a poly thing, any trust she has left in me will be broken. I don't want to be another person that becomes just a friend and finds their person while she just looks on wishing things had been different and she didn't have things making her life so much more complicated and difficult than most people. It's not fair. I would do anything to make her life easier, even remove myself from it entirely if that's what she wanted.
She can't give me what I want right now. What I need I guess. I can deal with the sexual part, but the lack of emotional and romantic attention really makes me feel like something is missing. And it hurts. I love her so much and just want to be with her. The last time I saw her in person it was for only part of the day and I was just so grateful to be there with her and get to hug her. I wanted to ask to kiss her but knew it was a bad idea.
I wish I could ask her about all this, but it's too much right now and I'm scared of losing her altogether because I'm bringing stress to her life. If it wasn't for the medical issues I would just ask. I'm not a shy person and I need clear communication. Once, when we were more involved, I wrote her a really intense love lettemessage and she told me it was too much and she felt extremely emotionally pressured. Now I'm terrified to try and clarify anything because she may just say I'm too much for her and she needs to take care of herself first and foremost and cut me off. I want her to take care of herself and I respect her so much for knowing where to put her energy.
I just wish I could be more apart of her life, ya know? I don't need much, just a little reassurance know and then without having to ask for it. I just want to be there and know I'm important to her. It's hard to feel that way when I feel like a burden for just asking her how her day is. If she told me to wait, I would wait as long as she needed. I don't think she will ever ask and at this point im not sure if she even wants me anymore. Reading this back makes me feel crazy, but honestly she really does give just enough to give me hope.
What the fuck do I do? I don't want to lose her but I'm really hurting by being in love with someone who can't return it right now. And what if I start dating someone else and these feelings are still so strong? Is that even an honest thing to do to a new person?
Sorry this is so long. It's all I've been thinking about for about two months now. I'm tired. I just want to be loved and be able to give my love freely. I have always felt like too much and it's funny because I was just starting to get over that and now it's like no, your baseline is literally too much for this person haha.

2023.06.01 19:38 DestinyProfound Interest in savings account doesn't make sense

Hey all! I'm hoping someone can explain this to me.
I opened a sofi account and did direct deposit so I could get the 4.20% interest rate. I got that starting May 8th. I was attempting to calculate my interest and at the end of the month had $5000 in the savings account. So, me doing math (5000 × .042 = 210) I expected a decent interest payment. I logged in today and I only had $9.22 in interest.
I started with $1000 in the account at the beginning of the month so that didn't make sense to me either. Even at the 1.2% interest rate 1.2% on $1000 would be $12.
I opened a ticket and they basically dismissed me and sent me a screen shot of the interest I had accrued (above). I saw it also only did the daily interest whenever there was a deposit.
I switched to Sofi for the interest rate, I've never had an account that had one before so I was really looking forward to taking advantage of it. I accept that this may be an error on my part on how interest rates work, but I thought I should have made more interest than $9.22.
Am I just ignorant on how this works (if yes, please explain) or should I keep trying to get this adjusted?

i thought i might just post my notes from my original playthrough back in january since they're relativey 1 to 1 and have been a massive help in plaything the remake, with that said i removed all the door codes so i dont'spoil everythign for new players, and it just formatted liek your standard modern day quest log and should hopefully help people figure out what exactly theyre supposed to be doing. and for the love of good write down the numbers display at each reactor you blew up on each floor, there should be 6 in total
Just remember if you’re lost and not sure what to do double check your audio logs, and then game won’t ask you to go from 1 floor to another unprompted so don’t just randomly go down or up a floor if you’re stuck and not sure what to do. And this isn’t a proper guide these are just my final notes from my original play through so migjt noticed a part where they’re less specific as the game got a little obtuse with its requirements.

  6. Destoy security cameras in the newly opened quadrants to lower security level low enough to unlock the maintance office.
  7. find a severed head from on the of the quadrants and place it gainst the retinal scanner infront of the second door in the hallways to the maintance office..... no not the severed head int he beta quadrant, yep the identical onein the delta quadrant.
  8. ignore steps 6. and 7. because that office is actually optional go fuck yourself *FAILED*
  9. go down the literally 30+ dead ends located in the newly opened quadrants and click on the square textures at the end until you find one that matches the 3 digit code that put into the relay analyser.
  10. find an interface demodulator from somewhere else in level3 and then use it on the texture that you found before.
  11. Return to level 6 and re-activate the master jettison enabler.
  12. Jettison grove 2 , Virus destroyed.
Stop Shodan from uploading herself to the internet.
  1. grab 4 Plastique Explosives from Lv.4.
  2. place Plastique at 4 antenna sites on level 7.
Destroy the station to stop Shodan from crashing it into earth.... from orbit over saturn...no rush i guess.
  1. find the system authorisation code from each floors reactor.
  2. find a level 2 environment suit (or a shit load of detox patches.
  3. head to level R to set the reactor to explode.
  4. run to the flight deck and find an excape pod the code is 001 (maybe find one before setting the station to blow).
Kill Shodan
  1. Head to the bridge.
  2. find a way up the tower.
  3. kill Dieago and his re-inforcements and collect the keycard off his body.
  4. enter the final section of the bridge, bring any supplies this is a point of no return.
  5. find a way to lower the 3 forcefields.
  6. find an Isolinear chipset, it will allow acces to the central room where shodans cyberjack is located.
  7. place the chip into the thingy behind the 3 forcefields.
  8. Find Shodans cyberspace terminal in the centreal room on the bridge.
  9. Kill Shodan in Cyberspace. !<

Latest Drill Results

The drill results further confirm the interpretation of the Texmont deposit, as displaying zoning in its mineralization, with a higher-grade core >1.0% nickel ranging between 2 to 8 metres thick, encompassed by moderate-high grade mineralization of 0.6-1.0% nickel between 12 to 25 metres thick and surrounded by lower grade mineralization of 0.25% and higher, with widths up to 150 metres (see Tables 1 and 2). Mineralization has been drilled to a vertical depth of 444 metres and remains open at depth.
Canada Nickel expects to produce a mineral resource estimate on the Texmont Project later this year using the 28,884 metres of drilling completed during the previous 2006 -2008 drill program and 9,726 metres in the current 2022-2023 program. This resource will form part of a PEA expected by the end of 2023.

From the 11 drillholes in this release, five were drilled in the southern half of the property close to the past producing Texmont mine. The remaining six drillholes were drilled in the northern half of the property, testing the strike length extent of the mineralization.
Drillholes TXT23-24, TXT23-29, TXT23-30, TXT23-31 and TXT23-33 in the southern half of the property all intersected varying degrees of mineralization predominantly hosted in peridotites and to a lesser extent in adjacent mineralized komatiites. All drillholes cut across the interpreted low to moderate to high grade shells, with the best intersection in hole TXT23-30 at 1.34% Ni over 8.5 metres within a moderate-high grade shell of 0.83% Ni over 19.5 metres, within a low grade shell of 0.22% Ni over 127.4 metres. Holes TXT23-29 and TXT23-30 were drilled sub-parallel to strike to test the presence of inferred cross cutting faults, as well as to confirm the continuity of the mineralized shells (low, moderate and high) across geologic sections in an area of the mineralization where existing underground infrastructure makes it difficult to drill on-section.
The six remaining holes drilled in the north section of the property (Figure 2) all intersected varying degrees of nickel mineralization, with holes TXT23-32 and TXT23-35 having the best results, intersecting high grade nickel very close to surface, with overburden less than 5.5 metres in TXT23-35. TXT23-35 intersected 9.0 metres of 1.03 % nickel, within a larger section of 25.5 metres of 0.72% nickel, within an overall mineralized envelope of 174.5 metres grading 0.30% nickel.

Assays, Quality Assurance/Quality Control and Drilling and Assay

Edwin Escarraga, MSc, P.Geo., a “qualified person” as defined by National Instrument 43-101, is responsible for the on-going drilling and sampling program, including quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC). The core is collected from the drill in sealed core trays and transported to the core logging facility. The core is marked and sampled at 1.5 metre lengths and cut with a diamond blade saw. One set of samples is transported in secured bags directly from the Canada Nickel core shack to Actlabs Timmins, while a second set of samples is securely shipped to SGS Lakefield for preparation, with analysis performed at SGS Burnaby or SGS Callao (Peru). All are ISO/IEC 17025 accredited labs. Analysis for precious metals (gold, platinum, and palladium) are completed by Fire Assay while analysis for nickel, cobalt, sulphur and other elements are performed using a peroxide fusion and ICP-OES analysis. Certified standards and blanks are inserted at a rate of 3 QA/QC samples per 20 core samples making a batch of 60 samples that are submitted for analysis.

2023.06.01 17:35 IndieFlea End of Month Minor League updates - IndieFlea's Mid-Season Prospect Rankings (Part 1)

Hey all,
I got good feedback from my last minor league update post, so I thought I'd continue with some mid-season rankings, those are always fun!
I've kept personal prospect rankings for about two years now; they're mostly an amalgamation of the main publications' rankings, the DMN's rankings, LSB's rankings, scouting summaries, looking at minor league stats, and If I'm lucky, looking in person. I usually re-rank at the beginning of the year during spring training, sometime mid-season, sometime post-trade deadline, and sometime at the end of the season, this way I can see how certain prospects have moved in my mind through the year. For instance, last year I had Ragans ranked 27 at the start of the 2022 season, but his great minor league season (and the Rangers need for pitching) had him float up to 12 by the end of the season.
I usually rank around 50 or so, although rankings get super nebulous after even 30. Anybody's list could have any of those guys in almost any order and it could make sense. This list will be everything up until May 31. I'll start my post by ranking 50 through 41, but before I even do that, I'll have some honorable (and dishonorable) mentions. Numbers in parenthesis will be what my rank for the player was at the beginning of this year.

Zoey consoles Jasmine, saying that at least she gets about c$2,300, & the fact half of the money will be going to charity. Jasmine goes up to Ella, & thanks her for the money she got, & says that Ella was a great competitor.
At the final campfire ceremony, Chris announces Ella as the winner of Total Drama Island. Ella cheers and receives her check and the final marshmallow. Ella puts the marshmallow in her pocket, saying that she'll keep it for the memories. Geoff comments that it's time for them to do something, to which Beardo, Geoff, & Owen dump Chris in the lake to the cheers of the other campers and Chef. When the boys chase after Chef to throw him in the lake next, Jasmine asks if Ella liked seeing Chris dumped in the lake. She giggles, saying yes. The camera pans out from Jasmine & Ella, revealing the boys chasing after Chef in the background. Later, Alejandro finally breaks out of the bathroom, just in time to head on the boat to the playa.

The episode begins with the campers throwing a final party at Playa Des Losers on their last day before they have to go back home and return to their normal routines: Brick, Cameron, & Owen are playing Beardo, Harold, & Max in a game of ultimate frisbee, Staci & Sierra are chatting over burgers, & Anne Maria is blatantly staring at Alejandro. In the confessional, Alejandro is asking why Anne Maria is still infatuated with him despite the fact he literally eliminated her. Anne Maria comes in & says it's the fact that he's hot. Back at the party, Izzy is feasting herself on marshmallows and soda, which she ends up barfing from, but goes for more, which somehow charms Owen. Alejandro is saying that he has no clue how he is going to face his family like this, & hates that his older brother Jose has another thing to dunk on him with.
We cut back to the frisbee game, & Brick tosses the frisbee to Cameron in the end zone. Cameron catches it & gains a point while jumping & cheering wildly. Dawn & Zoey are watching & cheering. He asks if this is what organized sports are like, & Brick says yes.
Suddenly, Chris arrives holding a briefcase and offers the campers one final challenge: a race to find a briefcase that contains one-million dollars. The challenge is to locate the briefcase and bring it back to the Dock of Shame. Chris sweetens the deal saying that Ella can keep the initial 100k & still play. Ella immediately runs off with Beardo to find the million, but no one else budges. When Chris says that Ella & Beardo are about to win a very easy million, they finally budge, but not before it turns into a 20-person pile-up. Cameron suggests that maybe they could share it, but everyone besides Dawn & Brick is still bickering. They all untangle themselves, & get into the following groups:

Scott & Scarlett are the only ones that lack partners, so they begrudgingly team up.
After two hours pass by without anyone finding the suitcase, Chris gives the first clue about its location over the loudspeakers: "It's just hanging around." The case is then seen hanging from a tree branch. Alejandro is seen walking around the woods with Anne Maria, paparazzi, who can't concentrate because she keeps staring at him.
Then, wandering with Owen & Max, Izzy thinks it'd be a great idea to think like a tree to find the case, hanging from it and singing. Max asks how Owen puts up with this as Izzy is insane, which Owen replies with "insanely hot"
Scarlett & Scott reach where Owen, Izzy, & Max are, & overhear where Izzy thinks the case is. Scott hops onto the tree & tries to hijack the vine, getting into a slapfight with Izzy. Trent, Sky, Jasmine, & Zoey are looking around, & notice the case in the tree. Jasmine reaches up to grab it, but a eagle takes it & flies away, causing them to groan. Just as they leave, Katie and Geoff walk right under it and start making out. Chris, watching from a helicopter above, is visibly annoyed at their incompetence. Alejandro can't stand being with Anne Maria any longer, so he ditches her by saying that he needs to use the bathroom. When Anne Maria realizes this, she is pissed.
Sierra, Staci, & Sadie are walking around when Staci asks why Sadie joined them. She says that she wants to give her friend time with her boyfriend & thought that Sierra & Staci were cool. They beam at the compliment, then Alejandro shows up. He asks Staci & Sadie where they've looked for the money, & they tell him everything. He leaves smirking, & the aforementioned girls slapped their faces.
The eagle with the case finally drops it, & it lands on Scott's neck, knocking him out. When he wakes up, he sees that Scarlett is gone, prompting him to call Scarlett a traitor. Then he realizes that if the situation was flipped, he'd do the same thing, & compliments her idea before running to get the case.
Because Scarlett is not very athletic, she is now dealing with a stitch. In the background, Scott & Jasmine are catching up to her, causing her to turn it up a gear. Eventually, Scott & Jasmine simultaneously tackle the genius redhead, causing the case to fall into the river. The groans of Trent's group, Scott, & Scarlett can be heard all over camp.
Back with Sierra's group, they are all griping about how annoyingly good he is. Sierra is saying that he should've eaten the laxative cupcakes he made for Jasmine, which get giggles from Sadie & Staci. On top of a cliff, Geoff & Katie are making out, & nearly fall from a cliff.
Alejandro is scaling a tree, trying to find the case. He gets very close to an air balloon with an intern in it, causing said intern to notify Chris. The host dispatches Chef on an ATV to stop the threat. The intern tries to hit Alejandro with a boombox & cable, but Alejandro grabs on & chases the intern out and hijacks the balloon, where he then starts to head off towards the campgrounds.
Brick & Harold find the floating case but must go upwards because Scott has blocked the only other way. So, Harold quickly builds a parachute to cushion the fall. Him & Brick initially float down safely, but then a pebble rips a hole in the parachute, causing them to descend quickly. They create a crater when they fall, & Brick says that he lost the case when they were plummeting. They find a canoe & start to paddle away. Cameron & Dawn find the dented case & pick up the pace so they can get to the dock. They run into Ella & Beardo, which prompts Cameron to ask if they should split the money, as c$250,000 isn't a bad reward. They all agree & go back to running. Scott hears their fall & runs back into the forest.
Anne Maria has given up on looking for Alejandro & is now looking around for the million. She sprays her hair, which alerts Bacon that she's nearby. He roars at her & Anne Maria is petrified. Bacon bites on her head, losing all his teeth, which embarrasses him, causing him to run away. Anne Maria is smirking while tapping her hair, which clanks metallically.
Ella, Beardo, Dawn, & Cameron are finally out of the gorge when they hear a whoosh from a hot-air balloon. Alejandro throws down the boom cord, successfully tying it around the case. Alejandro is now trying to steer, but it's getting tough because the four have now hopped onto the boom cord. He attempts to shake them off by going through a tree, but all that does is get the four closer to the basket.
Back with Geoff & Katie, they are walking through the woods and encounter a baby moose, attempting to reach a branch that is too high up for it. Geoff decides to help it by lowering the branch, but Geoff slips on a mud slick, causing him to land atop the moose. When the baby's mother appears and sees Geoff on top of its baby, it's enraged.
The moose starts chasing Geoff and Bridgette. Meanwhile, Chef, on his ATV, drives up to Zoey, Jasmine, Sky, and Trent, who have had no luck in the competition so far, and asks if they've seen the balloon. He explains the situation, including how Alejandro has the case and is on his way to the finish line. Both he and Zoey believe that Alejandro will definitely win. While Chef is talking, Jasmine picks up a small log nearby and knocks Chef out with it, hijacking the ATV and taking Zoey, Sky, & Trent with her. Elsewhere, Anne Maria is still searching. Geoff and Katie then race by, still being pursued by the angry moose. They tell Anne Maria to run as they race by, and she complies, joining in the dangerous chase.
Alejandro's balloon starts to float into the campgrounds. Dawn, Cameron, Ella, & Beardo manage to climb into the basket with Alejandro. However, this only puts them in more danger as Alejandro puts Cameron in a headlock and demands the case from them, or they will fall. Harold and Brick arrive in the campgrounds shortly after and see the hot-air balloon with Cameron, Dawn, Ella, Beardo, & the case all inside. They quickly abandon the canoe and race into the campgrounds, only for Sky, Trent, Zoey, and Jasmine to emerge from the woods on their ATV. They are driving close to the air balloon, hoping to take it down.
In the boathouse, Sierra, Sadie, & Staci are gearing up with fish water & paintballs to take down Alejandro. Staci says that she's learned a lot about paintball because her uncle owns a paintball arena. She says that she's not lying, as she has them as friends now. The three of them hide behind the communal washrooms, finding an airborne Alejandro. They see Geoff, Katie, Anne Maria and the moose race by, and quickly retreat. Meanwhile, the three campers who are being chased by the moose see the massive diving board platform & climb up. As they climb up to the safety of the incredibly high diving board, Sky has an idea. She runs into the mess hall & grabs the mounted moose head, running back & passing it to Zoey. She shows it to the moose & scares it into running away to the woods. Meanwhile, the hot-air balloon is about to crash, with only Sky seeing this. With Alejandro strangling Cameron, everyone in the basket doesn't realize any of this until it's too late. Dawn, Cameron, Ella, & Beardo are forced to jump because of this, & the fact that an eagle is about to tear a hole in the balloon. Alejandro thinks he's won but is forced to jump because of the eagle.
9 people are now on the diving board, & 8 of them are trying to knock the case out of Alejandro's mitts. Jasmine shows up out of nowhere, climbs the ladder, & successfully knocks the case out of his hands. It hits the edge of the pool below at an angle, and bounces straight towards the communal washrooms where Sadie, Staci, & Sierra reappear. Sierra grabs it & tells her teammates to run, but Max trips Sierra & grabs the case. Staci & Sadie splatter Max with fish water & guts, making him scream & throw the case into the air. Izzy shoves Staci out of the way, catches it, & runs with a full head of steam. It looks like Izzy will have a cool million until she trips on thin air & fumbles the case towards the dock.
It is at this moment when everything starts to fall apart:
Izzy quickly gets back to her feet and chases after the case.
Trent & Sky run past Sadie & a bucket-headed Max, but Owen is catching up.
Scarlett runs out of the forest, right in front of the wobbling diving board. It breaks, & everyone besides Anne Maria is sliding on the speeding diving board, which picks up Scarlett. The former's hair has made a crater in the ground.
The moose, after having presumably defeated Zoey, rides in with Zoey on its back, also racing towards the Dock.
Harold is running to the dock, trying to reach the case.
As the moose rides onto the Dock, it bucks Zoey off its back into the water.
The diving board group slides by, heading straight for Izzy, Scarlett, Trent, Harold, Max, Owen, and the case just as they are all right on the end of the Dock. These fifteen campers instantly collide at once, & land in the water along with Zoey, who's there already.
As these sixteen emerge to the surface, the briefcase is floating by itself in the water, until a shark rises beneath it and swallows it. The seagull with the fragment of net wrapped around its neck points and laughs at the campers' misfortune, until the same shark eats it. Chris then arrives in a helicopter and is disappointed that the campers lost the case. He then tells the sixteen of them the bad news: they are all tied. So, to break this tie, they will all have to return for another shot at the million dollars in season two. Ella, Cameron, & Owen are the most enthused about this, while others like Scarlett & Jasmine look less pleased. He tells the dry campers - Scott, Anne Maria, Sadie, Staci, Brick, & Sierra that they will be watching on the sidelines, losing their shot at winning. Scott is the most vocal against this, & Jasmine asks if she & him can switch. Chris says no dice, as the fine print says that you must play if you are told.
In the confessional, Katie & Sadie are sad to be separated, but Sadie says that they both will be fine, as they have other friends, & they handled being apart for over a week. Scarlett says that after this season, she will not be messed with, & will take revenge on "the purple haired gnome". Chris then tells the returning sixteen campers to report to a brand-new location in two days, where they will compete in a whole new set of challenges, and the last one standing will receive one-million dollars. He then tells viewers to tune in for the second season.

TDA Cast
Monster Cash
We see an old, clunky bus driving up to the set of Total Drama Action that has the castmates who made it to season 2. The bus stops, & Cameron, Izzy (who refers to herself as E-Scope), Owen, Ella, Zoey, Trent, Beardo, Katie, Geoff, Dawn, Harold, Alejandro, Jasmine, Max, Scarlett, & Sky get off the bus, taking a look at the film lot. Alejandro & Jasmine are glaring daggers at each other, while Max is ignoring the glare Scarlett is giving him.
Beardo, Ella, Cameron, & Dawn are talking animatedly about their lives, with Beardo saying that because of the show, he's been getting bigger DJ gigs. The other three congratulate him for this, then Chris shows up & tells the cast about the new confessional, & the new elimination ceremony, which is called the Gilded Chris awards. Scarlett asks why he's so vain, & Dawn says that it's because he wasn't loved enough as a child. After the snickers subside, Chris says that today's challenge is to race to a pair of trailers before the monster catches them.
When Chris says to go, everyone starts running, with Izzy immediately getting captured. In the makeup confessional, Owen is asking how he's going to compete with the giant monster. Sky asks Trent how they are supposed to find the actors' trailers, & a confident Alejandro tells them to follow him. He runs off, & Trent & Sky don't follow him. Alejandro gets captured by Chef, but it takes a second before he is picked up. Chef admits that Alejandro is hot, while Alejandro is saying in the confessional that at least he has his natural beauty, even though most people hate him. Geoff & Katie are making out on the ground, & Jasmine runs up to them & says that they are here to compete. Geoff & Katie seem to realize this in the confessional, but then go back to making out.
One by one, each castmate is captured, and deposited into a bounce house by the monster, eventually leaving Owen as the last person standing. When Chef finally finds him, and attempts to pick him up, Owen's weight makes the monster malfunction, since he's too heavy to pick up. Ten hours later, an exhausted Owen finds the other castmates and releases them from the bounce house by puncturing it with a sharp needle he had found.
The castmates are at the dining hall for part 2 of this challenge. Before Chris can even explain anything, Owen goes ham on all of the prop food, finishing in less than a minute. Chris explains that he needed to find a golden key, & Owen tosses him one he found in a prop turkey. All of the girls besides Izzy are weirded out by this, while all of the boys say that Owen's got guts.
As the castmates make their way to the trailers, one trailer is accidentally crushed by the monster, who is bringing E-Scope back from their date. When asked to choose which trailer the guys get, Owen, much to the other guys' anger, chooses the recently crushed one, claiming "it has more character." The girls cheer happily while the guys get mad at Owen, until Chef crushes the other trailer as well.
After the trailers are repaired by Chef, the castmates make decisions on who to bunk with. For the boys, Beardo bunks with Harold, & Geoff with Max. Cameron requests that he doesn't share a bunk with Alejandro, so Owen volunteers, making the last bunk pairs Cameron & Trent, and Alejandro & Owen. For the girls, Ella bunks with Dawn, Sky bunks with Zoey, Scarlett bunks with Izzy much to the former's chagrin, & Katie gets a bunk to herself, as Jasmine will be sleeping on the floor.
Early the next morning, Chris yells into a megaphone to wake the castmates up, just to mess with them, before letting them go back to sleep, reminding them of their required early morning wakeup. After Chris signs off the episode, the monster roars in the distance, and Chris demands the monster be deactivated.
After the credits, Scarlett says that she won't be outplaced by Max, & that everyone should watch out, because she will do anything it takes to win. Her eyes flicker red for a minute before turning back to green, then the episode ends.

This is possibly the final update to my series of previous posts, "$500k the boring way", “$250k the boring way”, and my original post, "$100k the boring way". Those older posts have all the details but I will attempt to summarize. Also I just wanted to say that I really wanted to make the title "$1000K the boring way" but didn't have enough confidence.

Summary

Reached $1M net worth from a starting point less than -$100k in roughly 11 years, mostly through consistent saving. Net worth chart included below. All salary numbers are gross.

It's been a while since my last post - it was definitely weird going back and reading through these previous snapshots of our life. The $500k update was posted in Dec 2020 and even though the pandy had been going on for a bit, (as we all know) we were in for a much longer ride than anticipated.
 
2021: I think it's telling that I had a lot of trouble trying to remember things that happened this year. I hate to call it a lost year because I'm extremely grateful for the extra time I got to spend with my young kids - we really just didn't do much due to having said young kids and an abundance of caution. I went through my phone photo highlights from 2021 to try and jog my memory and they all were geotagged at our house or a nearby town.
I actually found this pretty interesting from a financial perspective - on one hand, sure, there were less opportunities for spending on things like restaurants and social activities, and in the comments of my last update I had noted that our cash had built up really quickly basically on accident. On the other hand, the unknowns and challenges surrounding the pandemic and parenting really shifted my mindset around spending. I found it much easier to justify all types of purchases and spending because "well, whatever it takes to get us through this". I wouldn't say we went overboard or anything like that, more like we accepted a healthy amount of lifestyle creep into our lives. We bought the ridiculous inflatable kiddie pool (no it didn't last long), we started adding more "fun" stuff to our cart at the grocery, paid for little subscription services here and there, etc. For my own mental health, I basically completely stopped tracking spending, stocks, our accounts, bills, and most things finance-related (including this subI'm so sorry). Ultimately I think doing less during the pandemic plus our increased spending was more or less a wash financially.
At work, I officially maxed out on my salary band, so effectively I didn't get a raise. I'm pretty sure the COLA was also nonexistent this year which they blamed on Covid. I got to work 100% remote with no pressure to bring people back, which I really appreciated. With working a bunch of on-call nights and weekends I ended up at $136k for the year. My wife completed her first full year of part-time work which dropped her from $90k to $60k
We did end up buying a new car shortly after my last post in Dec 2020. Went with a Subaru Ascent (sorry to all the minivan fans from the previous comment section) and it turned out to be really lucky timing because we got it for insanely cheap and 0% interest and then the car market went crazy.
Our youngest joined our oldest at daycare in the fall for a total of $2,150/mo.
 
2022: At my job, I was feeling kind of stuck. At this point I had found that some side projects that I took on for "fun" (I did have a genuine interest/passion) had become basically additional full-time positions. I was getting a ton of recognition and accolades for the work I was doing, but no promotion or raise. The culture at my workplace was to protect/gatekeep the top engineering title at all costs, so my successes were constantly met with "you're doing great, just be patient" or "the optics might not look good to the other engineering departments" or various other BS. Ultimately, it made me start to resent my job that I really loved. I let my supervisor know early in the year that my patience was running low and eventually I would be forced to look elsewhere, which he understood.
On one frustrating day in the fall I decided to just have a quick look at the other similar companies in my area and happened upon a job posting that was kind of my dream role (essentially getting to do some of the extra work I had taken on as my full time job and drop the day-to-day stuff). It all happened very quickly after that: I got a call the morning after submitting my resume, then a week later I got a job offer 20 minutes after my interview had concluded. I asked for as much time to decide as possible, gave the offer to my current employer, and they made me wait a long time before coming back and saying they wanted to but couldn't match right now. So I left ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ There's a ton more to say on this topic but probably too much for this post as it is so happy to continue down in the comments if people want. The CEO ended up requesting to do a personal exit interview with me, so that was cool.
Otherwise, 2022 was pretty uneventful financially. Obviously the market was down so not a lot of action or visible progress in our net worth journey. Was one of the first "extended" downturn-type period of time I've experienced in the market. I didn't change anything.
We took a much needed family vacay south of the border. Daycare raised prices by a reasonable 5% to $2,250/mo.
 
2023: I started my new job in late Jan, going from $135k total comp to $160k plus a $12k signing bonus and I no longer have to be on-call overnight. I heavily engineered my start date to make sure I was still able to receive a one-time payout my old employer did at the beginning of the year to make up for freezing the salary schedule during Covid. I also had something ridiculous like 700 hours of PTO paid out (RIP my taxes this year).
Side note: I do not recommend saving up as much PTO as I did, go live your life. I was saving aggressively to prep for us having kids, and then the pandemic happened so barely used any for a couple years. Happy accident that my banked PTO ended up getting much more valueable over the years as my salary was increasing rapidly.
Our house is great but as the kids are growing we are thinking it would be nice to have some extra space. We've talked to our realtor and lender to get the process moving but not in any specific rush. We will have to do some upgrades to the house like exterior paint, possibly the roof, deck upgrade (finished ourselves) but those are needed either way so just going to do them in case we decide to enter the market. The idea of getting a new mortgage right now seems so wild to me, but I know you can't time these things. It definitely would hurt to go from 2.875% to 7%. I'm considering exploring just adding on to our current house, but not sure if that's really feasible at this point.
Daycare is now $2,900/mo lol (this is even with our costs going down slightly as our son has aged into the older classroom). It was actually hilarious to me that they sent out a "We won best daycare in the region" announcement followed very shortly by a 30% price increase. It is what it is though - I think this is pretty solidly reasonable for the area.
We took a family trip to Disneyland a couple days before our son turned 3 so that his park entry would still be free. My mindset going into trip planning was "Disney is expensive, so if you want to go, just accept that". We used a few different little tips and tricks for saving money here and there but overall tried not to worry too much about complete optimization. With that attitude we had a great trip and to me at least the memories and moments with my kids were totally worth it. Do the princess breakfast.

Here is our entire financial journey summed up in one line. Apparently they don't do the thing anymore where it changes color when crossing over from negative to positive, that's a bummer (the first line on the y-axis is $0, not the x-axis). I really thought it would look like more of an exponential curve by now. There aren't really inflection points anymore besides the Covid 2020 drop, when the app would get confused, or accounts would stop updating from time to time, so here are the relevant dates in list form:

Current Finances

Our savings rate was 40% from 45% one baby and 55% no babies. Now? I have absolutely no idea. Past me and part of current me thinks that's both hilarious and terrifying - who even am I?? I believe it's likely around the 40% mark still. I think part of me doesn't want to figure it out because it might be lower than I was hoping for and stress me out unnecessarily.

Now what

I told my wife the news that we were officially millionaires (that sounds so stupid typing it out) a few days ago and she asked "what does that mean". I said "literally nothing, lol". We are definitively in the "boring middle" phase of retirement savings, and so I don't expect any substantial changes.
When is enough, enough? I really don't know. I still want to retire early, but as I've grown into my career (and very muchmostly enjoyed the work) I've found myself less eager to leave. I think working from home has had a huge impact on this. It's probably time for a sit down with my wife to talk about our next 5-10 years and maybe map out a number that we would feel comfortable with.
It's for sure time to update the budget soon and get that back on track. My oldest will attend kindergarten in the fall, so that will be nice to cut our daycare bill in half. We may never see that money if it ends up going towards a larger mortgage, but I need to get an updated picture of our finances before we can figure out exactly what sort of house we want to afford.
Our student loans are what initially set me down this path of aggressively saving and investing. I find it kind of funny that despite all of our financial accomplishments, we still have not officially paid off our student loans. I'm holding out hope for the student loan bill to go through, so until there is interest being charged again, the last $10k will just sit there.
Not that I think anyone would remember this, but if you read the last post you know I was planning on making a will and getting some life insurance. It's been 2.5 years and I've made zero progress on those fronts, which I realize is terrible and I really need to get on that. Likewise, I still don't have a specific plan for the kids' college beyond "let's just generically save money and we will cash flow college or figure it out".
For my career, I've got one last level to go as an individual contributor in my field. If I stay at my new company, I'm probably a couple years out from achieving it, but I could probably get it as soon as the end of this year if I go back to my old job. That would allow me to end my career in the $200k range which I think is a solid goal.

Is this my last update ever? Maybe, who knows. Maybe a retirement update is in order many years down the road, but really I don't expect our path to there have anything new or interesting that I haven't already covered (wasn't that the whole point of this series of updates?).
Looking back on this, I like to think that I successfully made our journey to being millionaires as boring as possible. I was inspired at a young age to learn that the possibility of retiring early could be simple and didn't take an overwhelming amount of skill or knowledge. You just had to be as consistent as possible. I'm not to retirement yet, but I believe in the path we are on and I'm hoping someone will find similar inspiration by me just showing the receipts.
Finally, I want to sincerely thank everyone for reading and commenting over the years. As a loooooong time lurker on this sub I was so nervous for my first ever post and the responses I've received since then have been so uplifting and personally motivating. It means a lot. Back to saving and living our life now. See you around!maybe
