[P&P Round 2] Sylven Armoured Engineering Type 14 'Veles'

The engineers were all gathered in the small office that served as the meeting and design room for SAE. There were four of them currently: Fasil, the dwarf; Siper, the half-dragon; Kyren, a goblin; and Edward, a human. They were waiting on Sylven, who was unusually late, especially considering the fact that they had only hours to send off their prototype with a presentation to the Project Paladin committee. The engineers were all tense, wondering if they should take their presentation that they'd just come up with this morning and leave Sylven behind. After all, he'd designed the prototype mostly by himself as well as (finally) approving it after a lot of tweaking and testing. Just as Edward was about to speak up to suggest this, Sylven suddenly burst into the room, followed by his secretary, the latter of which looked especially tired. Sylven looked tired as well, but he had that manic grin that everyone knew meant that things would not be going to plan.
"Good morning, Mr. Sylven," Edward said, "I was just about to suggest leaving, as we've already put together a presentation and crew. You don't even need to come along."
Sylven caught his breath and composed himself, his grin subsiding slightly as he sat down before speaking. "Gentlemen, that won't be necessary, the Type 13 project is now scrapped."
The room somehow became more tense, the engineers looking at one another worriedly. Was all of this work for nothing? Would SAE not be participating? What about all the investment that had gone into the project? Sylven continued, "After reviewing the competition, I've decided I'm unhappy with our submission, and spent the last two days, along with my secretary here, designing and testing what is now going to be our submission, the Type 14 Veles. We'll be reusing some components from the Type 13 project, such as parts of the suspension, the radio, and the MRA, so it's not completely a new design. I've already taken some parts off the Type 13, and we could potentially use the chassis or turret in the future, but it's no longer under the Veles designation."
The room was silent for a couple minutes, before Kyren spoke up. "So you designed, built, and tested a prototype in less than 72 hours, and you're taking it over the one we've all been working on the past two weeks?" The others nodded and murmured their agreement, clearly atleast a little annoyed. Sylven had always been rather unpredictable, changing things at the last minute or often swapping out parts, but this was simply unprecedented.
In response, Sylven motioned to his secretary, who handed him the briefcase the secretary had been carrying. Sylven opened this, and produced several blueprints, motioning for the others to come and look at them. "See for yourselves, gentlemen. It's smaller, faster, and cheaper, with only small losses to armour protection, and even some gains in other regards."
The engineers pored over the blueprints for several minutes, before Fasil spoke, scratching his head. "I don' kno' ho' ye've done i', bu' I think 'is migh' jus' work." Edward agreed enthusiastically, Siper merely nodded, and even Kyren, although still slightly perturbed, admitted that it's extra speed and lighter weight just might cut it.
"Excellent," Sylven said, clapping his hands once before gathering the blueprints into his briefcase, "Edward, I'm taking you as my driver. Don't worry about the presentation, I've got that covered as well. Meeting adjourned, and we'll be off shortly."

Sylven stepped up to the podium, his earlier tiredness seemingly washed away by his usual calm demeanor. "Greetings to the members of Project Paladin, and to the delegates and various other representatives of our allies, as well as to all others present," he began, "my name, if you are not already aware, is William Sylven, and I am the founder and lead engineer at Sylven Armoured Engineering. I understand this committee has called for speed above all else, and I am proud to say that I believe I have achieved in that regard. With that, I present the Type 14 'Veles'. Unfortunately, due to the rushed nature of this project I am unable to provide any photographs. However, the tank will of course be on display afterwards. Firstly, however, the tank's specifications.

"As you can see, the Veles is quite small, and this was by design. As a reconnaissance vehicle, it should be hard to detect, hence the low profile, size, and weight. It's small size and weight also contributes to it being easier to manufacture and repair. We've also incorporated many nonmagical elements into the tank's design, such as using the Drachnifel V8 (which further allows us to use virtually any conventional fuel), mounting the AkM1 23mm, and using more conventional, albeit less effective, radios, suspension systems, and periscopes/viewports."
"The Veles, as just mentioned, mounts the less effective but also non-sentient Drachnifel V8 M89, for which we have managed to cram 680 liters of fuel inside. While we were considering using the Dorn, it was too big and we would have had to compromise on too many other aspects of the tank to properly fit it. There is also the issue of the Dorn being sentient, and of it being quite finnicky with fuels it deems 'too common' or whatever. The one we had even got into a shouting match with one of our engineers at one point, blithering on about 'too few exhausts' and 'not enough space', so we eventually returned it in favour of a much more agreeable powerplant. Despite its technical inferiority, the M89 is capable of taking the Veles up to 47.3 miles per hour on-road, or about 20-30 off-road depending on the terrain. It accelerates quickly, and also turns very fast, allowing for a quick getaway if necessary. The Veles can also climb a 75 (and possibly more) degree slope forwards, a 40 degree slope backwards, cross any trench, and mount up to and including an 0.75 meter step all from a standstill."
"The Veles is armed with the AkM1 23mm AA Autogun. The reasoning behind this choice, despite it being inferior to all the other armaments, was to keep the tank as light as possible, as being a reconnaissance vehicle, it should not be attempting to engage enemy armour in the first place. It does mean the Veles will be able to provide effective fire support against enemy infantry, however. The tank carries almost 550 rounds of ammunition, all stored in the turret for easy access. The nonmagical nature of the gun and ammunition also makes it simpler to produce."
"Armour on the Veles is minimal, with the front being the most well-armoured at around 80-90 millimeters average and the sides, rear, and roof having 17 millimeters. The belly plates are the minimum 8 millimeters thick. Raw armour is not all that is protecting this tank, however. As you can see, the vehicle is covered in bolted plates. These are a prototype of mine and my engineer Kyren Velsok, and are currently designated as Magically Reactive Armour Plates, or MRA Plates. These plates have several runes inscribed on the inside, providing protection against spells and enchantments. Our testing proves that they can protect against curses, solid and non-solid elemental magics, and enchanted munitions, and cannot be disabled unless the runes are completely destroyed. The additional spaced armour also provides extra protection against conventional munitions as well. They are easy to manufacture and replace in the field, as you can merely remove the bolts off of the desired plate and screw them in on its replacement."
"The Veles is manned by only two crewmembers, the driver and radio operator, and the commander and gun operator. This will make crewing the Veles incredibly cheap in terms of manpower. We have provided ample conventional viewports for both crewmembers, as well as fitting a small experimental radar to the back of the turret for heightened scouting capabilities."
"All in all, the Type 14 Veles provides more than enough speed, mobility, and scouting capability for any reconnaissance vehicle, and we believe we have created a worthy successor to the Rhun-78. Thank you for considering our design, and allowing us to serve this nation."

Hi all! I’m buying a new car because our beloved Volvo died and it’s very likely going to be a forester. I’ve visited local dealerships, checked online on all the platforms and driven to the nearest large city twice to see/test some. I’ve got two really good options right now and wanted to get some input. I’m doing all the appropriate steps to check history and get indirections done so it’s more of a forester generation question.
First one is a 2017 touring at a dealership with blind spot detection, all the bells and whistles etc. price and kms are right so I’m planning to go see in person but it seems like a fine option that fits my budget and wish /want list.
Other one is a private sale of a 2007 forester that we almost put an offer on yesterday. One owner, regularly serviced, very lol kms, fantastic visibility, huge moon roof, drove great. Price is half of the new one and we’d hope to barter them down a bit more. I’ve been checking reviews and this 2007 really does seem like a ringer that could last for years and we could maybe even sell to our kids. I like that it has just an automatic transmission (vs CVT), less fiddle faddle (I’m old school - first car I drive was my moms 1981 Honda civic hatchback with manual transmission) and we can always install an updated interface to charge our phones etc.
My only worry is that because it’s older I’ll end up with some kind of unfixable random problem (our Volvo has some kind of weird electronic problem with the crank shaft sensor that nobody can fix) - defs don’t need two mid 2000s cars with ECU/TCU problems.
Should I get the fancy new one that’s 10 years newer or the classic reliable 07?

I have the opportunity to buy a stock 07 wrx STI for $26k OTD. Just serviced by the dealer including new brembo brake pads and tires. 130k mi on the clock.
This would be my daily driver about ~15 min to and from work in a large, car dependent city.
With $10k to put down; is this a stupid purchase? Should I be looking at something newer?
My monthly payment would be $300 for 60 mo, but I believe I could finish paying early in about 40.
