2023.06.06 20:56 Turrambers Just kinda bummed

About 2 months ago I met a woman about 5 years older than me. I went to sea for work but we talked every day. When I came home we went on a breakfast date talked a lot had some random phone calls and even went to a play together.
I kinda put a lot of meaning into how we met. My schedule changed at work so I was home an extra week and at my regular karaoke night. She came in, she said it was the first time she went out with people in a while. We started talking a lot and I really liked her. First woman I've met not on an app in a long time so it was exciting. I went to sea and we chatted so much through out the day almost constantly, my work permitting. I felt like I was in middle school again talking to a crush with how my heart fluttered whenever I saw her name pop up on my phone.
I got home and it was a challenge to meet up due to her schedule and the fact she has a child. We did manage a breakfast date, which went really well ending in an hour long walk/conversation. We talked on the phone a few times too along with our regular messaging. She invited me to a play this past weekend too. Well long story short afteduring the play I just felt something different. The way she messaged me changed too a few days leading up to it. We talked yesterday and I asked her about it, I'm leaving again in a few days and I wanted to know if there was something to come back to. Turns out, outside of friendship there isn't.
I'm glad not to be strung along, and to know where I stand. I'd also love to be her friend. But at the same time it still stings a bit. Dating has been a challenge for me in general and I really hoped I finally lucked out. But no, which is fine. She doesn't owe me anything. It's just a bumner, on paper we were a good match. Something just didn't click for her and that's fine. I feel the age gap may have been an issue for her as well. That's the impression I got anyway.

2023.06.06 20:55 augustrose_ F21 struggling with health issues, wondering if these symptoms could be related to one another.

Hi, F21 here experiencing a wide range of symptoms, waiting on a doctors appointment and wondering what conditions I should he checked for when I go, or how I can better advocate for myself.. I'm concerned and hoping an emergency doesn't happen before my appointment. I'm really scared. Background: Caucasian 21 year old Female living in the US, 5'10" (177cm), 260 lbs (118kg), but in the process of weight loss and have lost 20-25 lbs (9-11kg) since January 2023. I suffer from several psychological disorders (Depression, Anxiety, Binge Eating disorder, trauma disorder with depersonalization/derealization, ADHD, and supposed BPD. Had been diagnosed with BPD without proper testing.) I take several psychiatric medications including Lamotrogine 100 and 200mg, Hydroxyzine 50 and 25mg, Focalin 40mg, Ritalin 20mg, Wellbutrin 300 and 150 mg, Vraylar 3mg, Trazodone 100-200mg. I have not noticed these symptoms correlating with or happening after I take my stimulants.
Okay now that we've got the background out of the way, here are my symptoms which have been gradually worsening for about a year. firstly I was •tested and confirmed Low testosterone (free and total) and low dhea-sulfate by OBGYN, ruled out PCOS and ovarian cysts, estrogen normal. regular symptoms that go along with low T such as: • low sex drive •fatigue/lethargy •pain during sex even when taking my time "warming up" This is why I made an appointment to see an endocrinologist, and about a month after this is when I noticed the other symptoms worsening: • hair loss and thinning over the course of a year • before I started trying to lose weight, I had lost about 15 lbs without tracking my calories or changing my diet, though I AM in remission from my binge eating disorder • Normal-ish blood pressure readings at regular doctors appointments, but randomly spikes during the day. I can measure it at work because I work in long term care- I notice the same feeling outside of work that i feel when it has spiked, though I can't measure it at home. Some of the spikes were as high as 160/100 and 170/115. • persistent tachycardia even while resting. I feel my heart racing/pounding constantly, when measured at work with a BP cuff it is usually 110-130 bpm. I measure at home sometimes with a timer and feeling with my fingers (granted not the most accurate and I count anywhere from 90-120 when I feel my heart racing. Happens on and off throughout most days. •hand and body tremors when I have these episodes of high BP and pulse. • extremely sensitive to heat and dripping sweat even in 72-74° F while indoors. • tachycardia and high bp readings CAUSING anxiety, not the other way around. • occasionally short of breath during these episodes, upon standing too fast, or getting short of breath too easily during physical activity, even just standing for prolonged periods of time or going up one flight of stairs. •occasional nausea •lower appetite and trouble finishing meals especially in the morning, even when I feel hunger pains in my stomach •feeling faint or dizzy •feeling like I have to poo frequently but not always being able to go when I get that feeling. I eat with my medication and always try to stay hydrated. I'm never excessively thirsty even though I sweat a lot and drink a decent amount of water at work (about 3-4 16oz bottles in 8 hours, plus some water outside of work). I don't load up on sweets or notice these symptoms after eating or meds. in fact I eat the same thing every day at work (small sandwich, sunchips, apple with low sodium peanut butter and probiotic yogurt). I even spread out my dinner through 6pm-10pm so I don't crash, eating smaller amounts of it at time rather than all at once.
I know this is a lot to read but basically I'm wondering if 1. there are any concerns/conditions/illnesses that I should ask about/be tested for at my endocrinologist appointment, and 2. what precautions I can take in the 2 weeks before my appointment to ensure I don't end up in the hospital. I'm really scared and concerned. thank you all!

2023.06.06 20:55 AussieHawker Cornel West is not progressive (or not anymore).

There has been a lot of discussion about Cornel West because of his announced campaign. With a wide variety of reactions. But one reaction I've noted is people who do know how stupid splitting the vote is, but say that he is championing progressive causes or that he is very progressive.
Now he acts Progressive. He says certain buzzwords. But is he? Or is he really just a crank who has gone right?
Splitting the Vote for Trump
This campaign is nothing new for Cornel West. From his own mouth
Brother Bernie and Brother Trump are authentic human beings in stark contrast to their donor-driven opponents.
In the 2016 campaign, he was praising Trump over Clinton. And then endorsed Jill Stein. You don't have to like Clinton, to know how high the stakes were. And of course, as we now all know the stakes were high. 3 Supreme Court Justices, hundreds of lower federal judges, endemic corruption, criminalisation of immigrants, rise in hate crimes, and Trump utterly botching the crisis that happened under his watch, Covid killing over a million Americans.
But lots of people made that mistake as well. However, he is doing it all over again, after all this shit happened.
And Now Trump is even worse. He is explicitly campaigning against democracy itself because of his grudge about losing, he has made a campaign promise to invade Mexico, Ukraine will almost certainly get cut off reviving the Russian invasion and he explicitly wants to purge the Federal government of all non-loyalists, including bureaucratic roles. Cornel West has no hope of winning, all he is doing is taking away Democratic votes.
DeSantis, Chris Rufo and Cornel West
However, Cornel West doesn't just have an unfortunate past of praising Donald Trump. He also has a current history of praising Ron DeSantis and working with evangelical right-wingers, and their education causes.
Recently he wrote an Op-ed
DeSantis’s Revolutionary Defense of the Classics
By Cornel West and Jeremy Wayne Tate
Gov. Ron DeSantis just gave a welcome boost to the classical-education movement. He signed legislation allowing high-school students to qualify for Bright Futures scholarships, a state fund for college education, by submitting scores from the Classic Learning Test instead of the SAT alone.
This move will likely be portrayed, wrongly, as partisan and conservative. But the greatest works of civilization have always been about spurring—not preventing—radical change. They teach us about the revolutionary ideas of the past and help us better understand the present. The richest ideas of what it means to be human are those that have stood the test of time.
Many of the seminal works of literature, history, philosophy, science and theology were revolutionary in their respective ages. Turn the pages of Galileo Galilei’s “Two New Sciences” and you’ll experience the alteration of humanity’s view of itself in relation to the heavens. By disproving the then-common belief that the planets revolved around the Earth rather than the sun, Galileo laid the foundation for modern science. Isaac Newton, swept aside what remained of the Old World’s scientific superstitions—only to find himself upstaged two centuries later by Albert Einstein’s “Relativity.”
Like revolutionary ideas today, the ideas of yesterday were provocative and, in many cases, much more consequential. Galileo was put on trial because he upset the status quo. In the 13th century, Bishop Stephen Tempier of Paris condemned key works of theologian Thomas Aquinas for being too radical. Soviet dissident Alexander Solzhenitsyn and civil-rights activist Martin Luther King Jr. were imprisoned for their views. In colonial America, James Madison and his co-authors feared printing their names on the Federalist Papers, so they hid under aliases. Even the most mild-mannered of philosophers stirred trouble for thinking against the grain. Plato watched his great teacher Socrates put to death for his teachings.
Revolutionary figures of the past give us insight into the present and allow for reflection on the consequences of their choices. Julius Caesar, one of antiquity’s most recognizable leaders, teaches us the cost of revolution through his histories. By crossing into Rome with his armies, he ended the republic and created the Roman Empire, a crime for which he paid with his life. But in his firsthand descriptions of the often-brutal tactics he employed to achieve political transformation, he left behind deep insight. Caesar’s direct and simple prose conveys the reality of going to war—all without reference to contemporary conflicts.
That’s one of the virtues of the classics: They are a means of considering what is true without invoking the blind partisanship that encourages thoughtless action. There is nothing we need more today than the cultivation of reason and understanding.
That’s why Mr. DeSantis’s support of classic education has universal merit that transcends partisanship. Education based on values, logic and discipline isn’t Republican—it’s timeless.
Mr. West holds a chair at Union Theological Seminary and serves on the board of academic advisers of the Classic Learning Test. Mr. Tate is founder and CEO of the Classic Learning Test.
In this article, he praises DeSantis for introducing the Classic Learning Test (CLT) to Florida schools. He has a lot of fancy words about the various historical thinkers who went against the grain. Sounds nice. I wonder how Ron DeSantis is treating free inquiry in Florida?
But in reality, this is really just a handout to an incredible niche test used by a handful of Evangelical right-wing schools. The CLT dates all the way back to ... 2015. It's just a way for Republicans to spend education money fattening the pockets of the CLT advisors to provide these tests, and to push students away from real universities to ones that teach them nonsense. And the guys profiting from this, is Cornel West's co-author on this article who started the test and Cornel West himself.
But also, pushing the 'Western Classics' didn't happen in a vacuum. Ron DeSantis pushed the CLT, as part of his plot to get rid of African American Studies and other 'woke' courses that are part of the AP studies.
TALLAHASSEE — In February, when Gov. Ron DeSantis went after the College Board’s new Advanced Placement course on African American studies, he hinted that Florida might do without the organization’s courses and tests.
Two months later, Republican state lawmakers are preparing to head in that direction.
Using their budget proposal and a bill (HB 1537) that’s viewed as the Florida Department of Education’s legislation, the House and Senate are looking to pivot from the College Board’s Advanced Placement courses and SAT exam to other alternatives.
For the SAT, the state is considering a “classical and Christian” exam alternative called Classic Learning Test. It would be used as an optional graduation test requirement and to determine Bright Futures scholarship eligibility, as well as a college entrance exam at Florida’s public colleges and universities. Schools would have the option to administer the SAT, ACT or Classic Learning Test starting next school year.
For AP, the chambers have agreed to spend millions creating Florida-based alternative courses and tests, asking state universities and colleges to help establish the materials. A third-party organization would help create the exams.
Cornel West's own books would likely be in the firing line of Florida schools for writing about the Black experience in a way that wasn't completely stripped of all real history.
And who else is on the CLT Board?
Christopher Rufo, listed as Senior Fellow, The Manhattan Institute. Rufo was also appointed by DeSantis to destroy Florida's New College.. So he isn't just a think tanker, but directly on DeSantis's payroll.
Also included is Kevin Roberts, the President of the Heritage Foundation.
If you look at the photo the CLT board posted, its literally just a sea of White Republicans.
So Cornel West has no problem writing a public article praising Ron DeSantis for helping free inquiry, as he tries to get rid of any books about LGBT people or Black people and working alongside Chris Rufo, the guy who managed the Right Wings Critical Race Theory panic. Seems bad.
Ask yourself. If a Biden appointee to Education Secretary had this kind of background of supporting the privatisation of schools, and of hanging around figures like these, would you be cool with it? No of course not.
The People's People Grift
You might also note from his announcement that he isn't running for the Green Party, which already has ballot lines in many states. But for the People's Party.
Said People's Party is headed up by Nick Brana, and has been championed heavily by Jimmy Dore.
Both Nick Brana and Jimmy Dore have been credibly accused of sexual harassment and assault.
And this is what the People's Party online presence looks like
https://twitter.com/marionumber4/status/1665768271637782532
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Fx32IR5WAAQTjzf?format=jpg&name=large
Very left-wing. Totally not a right-wing grift.
In terms of the other track record of the People's Party, they aggressively solicited donations and promised that they would run dozens of candidates in the 2022 midterm. They didn't run a single one. Wonder where all that money went?
So the bright spark from all of this is that likely the People's Party will grift all the donations sent in, and not use it to actually get ballot access outside of the handful of states they have access to.
His Platform
Cornel West's website right now, is pretty limited. But one issue caught my eye in particular
End the Wars Bring our troops home and invest those trillions of war dollars into American communities. Support veterans, stop all foreign military aid, close the bases, disband NATO, and ban nuclear weapons globally.
Stop all foreign military aid and disband NATO. You know, while Russia is aggressively invading Ukraine. Yet another Leftist that is pro Imperialist invasion by a Neo Tsar.
What wars? Bring the troops home from where exactly. Biden already left Afghanistan and Iraq a couple of years ago.
And I wonder what magical spell he has in mind, to get Russia, China, North Korea, India, Pakistan, and Israel to consider giving up their nuclear weapons.
More of the Company he keeps
Other assorted people, he hangs out with
He is of course a constantly returning guest on Bill Maher.
https://twitter.com/cassiepmillestatus/1138583273242857472
I wish "Milo Yiannopoulos, Gavin McInnes, and Cornel West walk into a bar..." was the beginning of a joke, but I'm sorry to report that it is actually real life
He decided the prime place to announce his candidacy is on ... Russel Brand. Who went full anti-vaxx and Pro Russia.
https://twitter.com/CornelWest/status/1666114005877010432
https://twitter.com/themattdimitri/status/1543780892241543171
Hate group founder Gavin McInnes asks Cornel West to name an American fascist West: There's a spiritual fascism inside all of us... as a Christian I see it inside of myself Candace Owens: The Klan were Democrats West: Yes, they were [As if MLK had no idea of that history of Dems]
Candace Owens: They tried to blame me for a mass shooting in New Zealand, saying that this person got radicalized by my ideas of Black conservatism in America The Christchurch New Zealand Mosque shooter stated in his manifesto Owens was the "person who radicalized [him] the most"
Reportedly he went on this because Gavin McInnes was offering money to do it, which other figures turned down
I gave Matthew this footage. I have the full segments for both appearances. At the time McInnes was begging liberals to go on this show offering them $5000 an appearance - Dave Packman, Sam Seder and Ana Kasparian all reported McInnes offered them money.
Selling out for $5,000. I guess we know his price to sit down with a Nazi, on two separate appearances.
Conclusion
So if you consider everything. At best, he is incredibly naive and easily taken in by Right-wingers which makes him utterly unsuited to any political position, let alone President. And more likely, he just doesn't give a fuck, and is cashing out. While also being a crank.

2023.06.06 20:55 bosydomo7 Vueling Airlines Nightmare at Gatwick Airport: 1.5 Days of Chaos, Cancellations, and Baggage Disaster

Hey fellow Redditors,
I need to share the absolute nightmare I've endured with Vueling Airlines at Gatwick Airport. Strap in, because this story is filled with frustration and disappointment.
It all started on Monday, June 5th, when Vueling bumped me and my fellow passengers from our original flight scheduled for 1 pm. We were rescheduled for the 4 pm flight, but to our dismay, that flight was already full. The airline then moved us to the 9 pm flight and even provided seat assignments. However, just moments before departure, they dropped the bombshell that they couldn't accommodate us on the 9 pm flight either. How can they be so disorganized?
To compensate for their constant rescheduling, Vueling arranged a hotel for us and instructed us to return for the 9 am flight on June 6th. But guess what? They canceled that flight too! At this point, I was losing all hope. And to add insult to injury, without any proper communication, they suddenly decided to put us on a flight to Valencia, Spain. However, they failed to inform us how to reach our intended destination, Barcelona. Only after we confronted them did they reluctantly move us back to the Barcelona flight scheduled for 9 pm the next day. This whole ordeal has been an absolute circus.
But the miseries didn't end there. Vueling had promised us meal vouchers tied to our boarding passes, specifically for use at Starbucks. However, when we attempted to redeem them, Starbucks claimed they had no knowledge of these vouchers. It's beyond frustrating to be deceived like this.
Now, let's talk about the unimaginable inconvenience caused by Vueling. After each flight cancellation or being bumped, we were forced to walk back through security, go through customs, and collect our checked bags. Can you imagine the wasted time and energy? And to make matters worse, upon retrieving my checked bag after the fourth canceled flight, I discovered it was damaged, ripped, and covered in motor oil. This disastrous state has ruined not only the bag itself but also my clothes inside.
I'm sharing this story to caution all travelers about the appalling service provided by Vueling Airlines. Their lack of organization, communication, and accountability has left me devastated, inconvenienced, and with ruined belongings. This level of incompetence is simply unacceptable.
If anyone has experienced a similar ordeal with Vueling or has advice on how to seek compensation for all the troubles faced, I would greatly appreciate your insights. Additionally, if you know of any regulatory bodies or consumer protection agencies I should contact, please share that information too. It's crucial that we hold Vueling accountable and prevent others from enduring such a nightmare.
Thank you for taking the time to read about my harrowing experience. Let's hope for better travels ahead!
Tldr - 5 canceled flights, 1.5 days of back and forth to the airport, no meal compensation , ruined bag and ruined clothes covered in motor oil.

2023.06.06 20:54 dlebauche The electrical panel says "air conditioner" for a circuit showing as not grounded?

I'm considering installing a 5000 BTU air conditioner in my apartment which is inside an older building. All of the outlets have 3 holes each but only the ones in the kitchen and washing machine area show as grounded when tested using an outlet tester.
Every other outlet shows as "not grounded" when plugging in the outlet tester to into them. On the electrical panel, the various circuit breakers are labeled according to location or their intended use. Labels include things like "heating", "hot water tank", "stove" etc.
One of them is labeled "air conditioner". I am not sure which outlet(s) this label is referring to, but I am convinced it's referring to one of the outlets that shows as ungrounded from the outlet tester.
Is there some other type of grounding that can be implemented at the panel level? Would it make a difference if one of the circuit breakers was a GFI or GFCI circuit breaker? If so, can I check by removing the front plate of the panel to see more of the circuit breakers? If so, is it safe to remove the front plate of the electrical panel to see more of the circuit breakers? Should I shut some power off first?
I do know that the previous tenants did use an air conditioner without issue.
How risky is it use a 5000 BTU air conditioner in this scenario?
I've included some pictures of the electrical panel and the (what appears to be) GFI plug of my air conditioner.

Labeling found on interior of electrical panel (number 20)
Circuit breaker labeled as \"air conditioner\"

Can I remove these screws to see if the circuit breaker is a GFI or GFCI? Do I need to shut off any power first?

Air conditioner plug (top)

Air conditioner plug (bottom)

Papers taped to interior of electrical panel door (English and French)
Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

In an apartment on the south side of Boulder, Colorado, lived a man named Anthony, a college boy who lived for success in his grades. Anthony studied so hard, day in and day out, to get ready for college exams. Anthony lived in a three-room apartment on the 4th floor with two other roommates who went out a lot. He barely noticed his roommates going in and out of the apartment and was always easily angered if disturbed while he was studying. What kept Anthony awake these past few days was just a hot brew of coffee his roommate makes way too much of. The night that changed everything was August 14th, 2016. The night was cold and dark as the clock slowly passed 2 a.m.
Anthony, fighting to stay awake, drank his last sip of coffee, trying to finish studying for the midterm exams. Anthony had gone out of his room to get more coffee, but then he heard music coming from outside his apartment door. Thinking this was just a prank his roommates were putting on him, Anthony slowly inched to the front door to hear what was being played, and what he heard was old circus music loudly playing at the door. Anthony looked through the peephole to see nothing. He opened the door slowly to see an old music box loudly playing a muffled version of classic circus music.
Anthony angrily grabbed the music box, thinking it was some type of prank keeping him away from his studies. Anthony angrily mumbled while walking to his room, "Time wasted dealing with this rather than studying. ", He heard the same classic circus music outside his door. Confused, he looked through the peephole again to see no one outside the door. When he opened the door, he saw a similar music box, but this one had a note taped around it. He shut the music box off and took it inside. He opened the note, and it had writing in crayon saying, "Those who do not value their lives deserve a special surprise."
Anthony felt uneasy, thinking that this prank was going a little too far. He wanted to catch the person who was behind it as much as possible. So Anthony grabbed one of the smallest cameras he had and taped it across the hall, pointing at the front door. Tired, confused, and angry, Anthony went back to his room to study, and for a moment, there was nothing. When Anthony heard the music again, he grabbed his phone to see what was going on in front of his door and was shocked to see a dirty, beat-up, messy clown swaying its body to the music. Anthony sat there, shocked and horrified by what he saw. He then got up to check the front door.
Anthony cautiously and quietly approached his front door and slowly put his face up to the peephole. All Anthony saw was a sad clown with messy makeup and a very wide frown and pink hair, swaying to the music. A horrified Anthony asked what the person wanted, trying to hide the shakiness and fear in their voice. The clown stopped and looked directly at the peephole as if he were staring into Anthony's soul. Anthony waited a long time for a reply, but there was none. Anthony repeated himself in an angrier tone, "Who is this? What do you want?" The clown then started bashing his head against the door.
The force knocked Anthony onto his back. Breathing heavily, Anthony tried assessing the situation. He checked his phone and saw the clown repeatedly banging his head against the door. Anthony noticed that blood was splattering all over the door. Anthony quickly got up and ran to his room, tripping on everything in his way. When Anthony finally went into his room and locked it, the front door loudly broke open.
Realizing this wasn't a prank anymore, Anthony pulled out his phone and started dialing 911. Anthony heard the clown running toward his door. Anthony's phone was ringing while his heart was pounding and racing, trying to get any answer from the phone. Anthony then heard loud, vicious knocks on his door with his canonical laughs and his loud honks, making it hard to focus.
When he finally heard, "911, what's your emergency?" With a little side relief, Anthony was about to answer the operator when he heard the same classic circus music, but not from his desk but from under his bed. Anthony slowly looked at the darkness under his bed and saw a music box sliding out from under the bed.

2023.06.06 20:54 questionthrowaway346 Is my washer broken or do I not understand how washing machines work?

Over 2 years ago I got a new top load GE washer dryer set as a wedding gift (I’m pretty sure Model #: GTW331BMRWS). It replaced a 30+ year old set I had. It is HE.
I noticed from the beginning it didn’t seem to fill with as much water as my old one did, it would fill with sudsy water and have clothes floating. Now the new one fill to cover like half the clothes with water no matter the amount of clothes or load size I have set. I figured that was a new feature or part of it being HE, the clothes are always wet like normal when you take them out and all my clothes are clean.
I’ve noticed a few times when I’ve heard it been uneven and gone to check on it to re-distribute the clothes, I’ve reached in and the clothes have been bone dry during the “wash” cycle. I’ve tired to re start from the beginning and it doesn’t add any more water. And again, at the end all the clothes are wet and spin cycled stuck to the walls. My clothes are always clean, so I’ve never bothered to look into it much until now I’m just curious.
Is this a feature of new washers? Do I just not understand how a washing machine works? Or has my washer been not working right and I had no idea?

2023.06.06 20:54 word24-_-7 Idk what to think or do about this boy

So it's the end of school year right now and basically nothing is happening with the boy but the thing is: when the year started it was sort of a thing and one time i needed to ask him something, he said he has to check it for me and when he came to talk to me I didn't know if he came for me because it wasn't obvious and he got mad and i felt like he hated me for a while so i texted and he said we're cool when i asked why he didn't feel comfortable around me. anyways that's the only personal thing that ever happened but i feel that energy for a really long time and i have nothing to do about it because he is kind of avoident but not really (idk how to describe it). It feels stupid to share this but i really don't know what to do with myself when it come to this boy, I don't really know if i want him when I don't communicate with him but that obviously didn't work out for me

I've had this succulent for maybe an year and a half, I'm pretty inexperienced with plants and the colouring worries me. Any tips?
It was kept in direct (and pretty harsh) sunlight for the majority of time I've had it. Iirc, it was green when I first got it, and gradually turned reddish brown over the course of the last several months until there wasn't any green left. I assume this is because of neglect since I barely ever watered/checked up on it (I water maybe once every 1-2 months, though it was kept outside so the rain might have watered it as well). A month ago I moved it indoors and didn't check on it until today, the colouring has changed drastically. It's become mostly green which makes it look healthier to me- I might be wrong though because I haven't owned succulents before. It is still brown on the edges, how can I help that?

2023.06.06 20:53 IndividualDream4707 Who locked the door?

I’m generally a skeptic when it comes to the paranormal, but this incident still haunts me to this day. The year is 1998 and my family was hosting a small barbecue. I stayed inside to avoid the heat and my annoying brother. One of my cousins had the same idea and wanted us to play together.
I was never supposed to go in my parents’ room. So when 9 year old me saw an opportunity to peek in the room, I went for it.
That afternoon, both myself and my cousin were sitting on the stairs leading up from the main floor to the bedrooms on the top floor. While our parents were distracted trying to wrangle our younger brothers outside, we hatched a plan. She would sit near the bottom of the stairs to act as a lookout while I crept to the door at the end of the hallway. Taking soft steps and watching for an alert from my cousin, I eventually made it to the door without detection. The door was closed but when I tried the doorknob, it turned and left me at the threshold of the forbidden room. Unfortunately, at that moment I was warned that my mom was on her way inside, so this is where my exploration ended.
Before I continue, I want to describe the layout of my house. The main entrance opened on a set of stairs that led you to either the split level bottom floor to the right or the second floor to the left. From the second floor, there was only one set of stairs that led to the bedrooms on the third floor. This is where my cousin and I were sitting.
After my mom got a glass of tea and went back outside, we went back to our plan: My cousin sat as lookout and me sneaking back to the room. This time, however, the door was locked. I knew it was unlocked the first time I tried to open it. Our bedroom locks were the kind with buttons that need to be pushed in to lock. I remembered turning the knob easily on my first expedition so I was baffled as to how it could possibly be locked now. We were sitting on the only stairs leading to the top floor and no one had gone past us. This freaked us out enough to run away from stairs and stay outside for the rest of the day.
That incident is unsettling on its own, but it became more unsettling with information I learned later in life. The locked door incident took place a little less than a year after my father died. I was given a vague reason for his death, something to do with his brain not working right followed by assurances that I would understand when I was older. As an adult, my mom finally told me that it was suicide. He shot himself in that bedroom.
Looking back with this context, I think the locked door was my dad telling me to stay away from the room where he met his horrific fate. If so, it worked because I never tried to go back in there.

2023.06.06 20:53 AussieHawker Cornel West is not progressive (or not anymore).

However, he is doing it all over again, after all this happened.

And more likely, he just doesn't care, and is cashing out. While also being a crank.

2023.06.06 20:52 Cold_Lavishness_4587 The Holy Spirit is God's voice and it calls along the hallways of the path you walk with Him.

From the day you learn about the truth, God is with you whenever you face Him in prayer.
The deeper your journey with God is, the stronger His Spirit moves within you. If you've walked a lifetime with God, you are blessed because God is your comfort and your assurance when you struggle. Spiritually we see when the Holy Spirit is present. You learn to trust Him when you struggle. You learn to face darkness without hesitation.
We keep walking this path with God because what God has done for us is undeniable. We are alive again!
In time, our relationship with God becomes so personal that nothing can shake it from the outside, because God comes to make a home within us. We become living temples, for the living Spirit of God. A perfect match! Not temples of brick and mortar. Temples of love, warmth and light; Alive!
His light is rooted through the dark chambers of our past. Like empty hallways, lit up by the light of God. All from that initial taste of life and everlasting love, that we know through Jesus as our saviour. We look back on this journey with Jesus in our life, and it's how we know.
I believe that God speaks to us all personally. It often begins with a feeling. Finer than that of an emotion. A sense of God. He is there. Directly speaking to who we are on the inside. God will show you what you need to know. We need to live in a direct relationship with God. This way, the truth lives in us. There is no struggle for power, or knowledge, or a fight for anything at all, because God gives it freely in Jesus. We trust His will. At the core of what we believe. Beyond our perception and understanding. Beyond all the shapes and shades, there lives a light too pure for us to understand. We witness the beauty and are in awe of God's creation and how magnificent it is that we are the crown of His creation!
The enemy portrays a dead image. The enemy's ways are a guessing game, because it is void of the Spirit of God. Lost in darkness. Enslaved in desperation, doubt, and fear.
We are alive in the living image of God, fulfilled and present in life, in the Holy Spirit! God will always be the same. God has layed out a life of choice for all of us. So big is His mercy! He writes your story, and you get to write it along with Him! How great is that? God is writing you a story and you get to tell it yourself, in the flesh!
He's holding the pen and we're whispering in His ear like small children, through our prayers and our hearts, from the remnants of our own wonderful dreams. He hears us and sees us in His heart, smiles, and then writes us into the light of His story, into His perfect love!
God's Spirit and will is so beautiful, that we are free to choose. His perfect law encapsulates everything we could possibly imagine. Wherever we might be. We get to choose, and He blesses us as a result. We don't need to defend it, God can do all of it Himself. He might still choose us for His will! If God chose you, would you be willing to submit to Him as King forever? To bow before God is the best place to be in Spirit. It feels amazing to bow before God in all that I am, and to feel His love!
Put a little time aside today to do something that brings you joy. The joy you remember from your childhood. Joy can be found in the smallest of things. I believe that God appreciates the joy we express. Joy brings us hope! Remember to be present in your life, and to live honestly in your relationship towards God.

2023.06.06 20:51 Present_Emu_6179 Outrage payment

Hello. On June 1 there was a major nation wide outrage for Air Canada. My daughters flight was delayed for over four hours. When we went to make a claim for the $400 refund, under the new Canadian mandate, they came back and said they were not responsible because it was the fault of one of their suppliers. How is this possible. Isn’t AC ultimately responsible if their systems go down, despite which backend supplier they use?
Let me know
