2023.06.07 21:34 danksforbreakfast Burger King is not that bad

For whatever reason Burger King has one of the worst fast-food reputations, bellow the likes of Mcdonalds by a mile. Im not saying the food is good (its a preatty mid) but I was able to get two large sized combos for only $12 with a coupon in California, where It would cost me almost $20 bucks for 1 large sized combo in any other Fast-food chain. Would never be my first choice but if I ever wanted quantity over quality its a good option.

2023.06.07 21:20 Minute-Brick-9582 Is it OK to give my husband the silent treatment?

I used to think it was childish to be silent, but now I think it’s just how I best cope with things.
Has your spouse ever hurt you so bad that you can’t stand the thought of speaking to them? I mean- if I spoke to him right now, I definitely wouldn’t be saying anything kind.
Two nights ago:
-I noticed we only had 2 leftover burgers for dinner. Knowing 1 burger each is not a sufficient meal & I didn’t have time to make something else (I got out of work late and had only an hour to take care of the dogs and turn around and run back into town for volleyball) I quickly made some Mac and cheese and sautéed Brussels sprouts for sides. Knowing he would be getting home from work shortly after I left, I left the hot food on the stove verses putting it in the fridge. Everything was in containers, but left out for him. He said I “left a mess for him” and constantly “leaving my shit everywhere” and doing stuff half assed. All those statements are not true. I am the sole caretaker of our home. I am always picking up his stuff and cleaning up his messes. I can’t tell you the last time he organized anything or scrubbed something. I’m not saying that to be an ass- it’s true. Not to mention he is the king of “half-assed.” I recently had to show him that he completely neglected to weed eat 1/4 of our yard. Just didn’t see it? Idk. But anyway, after explaining to him that I made the side and left them to be kind to him, he laughed in my face and said “oh fuck- now you make sides? You didn’t want to do that last night.” (The night before we both just ate 2 burgers for dinner. We didn’t need sides? Ugh)
-after this argument he goes downstairs and I hear him say he’s stuck with me and all my shit.
So basically, I am so disgusted that I can’t bear the thought of speaking to him or sharing a home with him right now, to be honest. Is this feeling wrong?

2023.06.07 20:57 ZBGOTRP Mortimer I - Clarity (Open)

King’s Landing had never been Mortimer’s favorite place to be as a child. The twisting roads and seemingly endless rooftops terrified him, especially after his brother had told him a story about a mad cook in the days of the First Dance who took little boys and put them into bowls of brown when animal meat was too expensive. Braxton had received quite the beating from their father after he found out, but it didn’t stop Mortimer from having nightmares for weeks about cookfires and alleyways where sunlight never reached stone.
Recalling those days now, however, the young heir to House Paege grinned at his youthful folly. Of course it was dangerous, just as any place where one walked without paying heed to their surroundings. The cobblestones of Shepherd’s Way led to his destination, and the bright sun overhead provided such warmth that even the fearful little boy he had once been would have felt right at home amongst the sounds and smells of the bustling city.
He paid them all no heed. Just as the workers and residents of the city paid him none so long as he remained out of their way. A few gave him a quick glance, noting the twin entangled serpents, white and scarlet, pinned to his cloak. A clear symbol of his nobility, along with the leather-bound tome beneath his arm.
It was his prized possession. While most knights, himself included, placed heavy value upon their armor and weaponry, Mortimer’s sketchbook remained most dear to him. It had been the one thing to ease his mind when challenged, and with the tourney looming ahead, he found himself in need of the peace that it brought. Many and more talented knights had come to the city to display their prowess and win glory for themselves and their houses. And while he held faith in his skill at lance and polearm, the smallest inklings of doubt wriggled their way into his thoughts.
A clear mind leads to a clear goal. A clear goal leads to victory.
His father’s saying. His grandsire’s, actually, according to Bayard Paege, however the man had died when Mortimer was but four years old. He couldn’t recall his face, let alone his sayings. But it was true that he required a clear mind before facing the challenge ahead.
It was in search of that clarity that Mortimer Paege found himself sitting atop a low wall in a square just off Shepherd’s Way, producing a piece of charcoal he’d wrapped in cloth and flipping to a blank page of his sketchbook. He had no particular subject in mind, simply a need to be satisfied as he began to draw.

2023.06.07 19:30 jhsu802701 Do restaurant delivery apps promote obesity?

It seems to me that restaurant delivery apps promote obesity, and people trying to lose weight or consume a healthier diet should DELETE their accounts at UberEats, GrubHub, DoorDash, and similar services.
I remember when eating Popeyes, McDonald's, Burger King, or Kentucky Fried Cholesterol required actually going to the establishment, waiting in line, placing an order, digging the cash out of one's pocket to pay for the order, waiting for the food, and coming home. This required more time and effort than reheating leftovers at home. This wasn't even that much faster and more convenient than cooking something at home. All this time and effort helped limit consumption of greasy fast food.
Food delivery apps remove so many of these deterrents. The consumer no longer has to go anywhere. Ordering grease bombs now requires just whipping out one's smartphone and pressing a few buttons. One's credit card information, address, and favorite orders are saved. There isn't even any need to speak to a cashier or anyone else.
Worse yet, the morbidly obese (such as the patients on the TV show My 600 Pound Life) are the people who rely most heavily on these restaurant delivery apps, because they have difficulty walking, fitting into vehicles, etc. In other words, these restaurant delivery apps accelerate the demise of the people already in the worst shape and at the highest risk for heart attacks and strokes.
I feel weird, because I have never used any of these restaurant delivery apps. When I was out and about before the pandemic, I could just stop at the restaurant and had no need for delivery. When I was at home, I didn't order delivery, because I didn't like having to pay delivery charges.
I've been avoiding junk foods and restaurant foods for most of the past 3 years due to the pandemic. Unhealthy foods weaken the immune system and promote inflammation. I made a limited return to restaurant foods (but takeout only) last fall and within the last few weeks. And I'm learning how to pick out the healthier and low sodium items, which is a challenge in a world where sodium bombs are the norm.
Avoiding unhealthy foods works wonders at enhancing summer weight loss AND reducing winter weight gain. In order to return to what I weighed in March 2020, I'd have to gain more than 20 pounds.

2023.06.07 18:52 newyork0120 This Could Be The Worst Song Ever Made (Part 2)

Now, this criticism is bizarre and gross to say the least, and it was originally going to be the actual subject of my rant, but plans changed when I stumbled upon something else related to the new Little Mermaid. Apparently, Disney did not simply remake their own film shot by shot, they did change a few things: They made the cast more diverse, of course. They also added a couple of songs - they changed some of the original songs to make them more politically correct and inoffensive to the modern ear, but they also added one or two new numbers. One of the new numbers is a song performed by the seagull character voiced by a comedian who goes by the stage name Akwafina. Now this song has gone viral over the past couple of days, but not for the reasons that Disney would prefer.
Now, in some ways, this is an appropriate song for The Little Mermaid because listening to it makes me want to throw myself into the sea. Words cannot capture just how terrible it is. If I heard this song, and then over the next 12 hours my house burned down, and I lost my job, and I was diagnosed with a terminal illness, the song would still be the worst thing that happened to me that day. If I had a time machine, I would go back in time and kill the person who invented music before they could invent it just to prevent this song from being made. It would be better to erase music from human history altogether than to allow this song to exist. This song sounds like what might happen if you put a group of deaf schizophrenics into a room with a keyboard and a bunch of pots and pans, and recorded the random noises that they produced.
And what makes this so especially sinister is that little kids will watch this movie, and the intelligent children with good taste will hear that song, and they will cry, and they will turn to their parents and say, “Why is this happening, mommy? Please make the bad sounds go away!” But the less discerning children might LIKE the song, and then they'll spend the next seven months listening to it on repeat as their parents slowly go insane. There will be parents who play this song in the car in order to satisfy their whiny kids, which will create extremely unsafe road conditions. I mean, texting while driving is dangerous, driving under the influence is even more dangerous, but most dangerous of all is to subject yourself to psychological torture while trying to drive a minivan full of kids down the highway. That's what's going to happen now.
What I'm trying to say is that I don't like the song, and the most damning thing I can say about it is that it perfectly represents the modern Disney. When people utterly bereft of creative skill try to create something of their own, this is what you end up with. To go back to the Burger King analogy, it's like if one of the teenage fry cooks at Burger King actually tried to make a unique dish using the ingredients available in the kitchen, you'd end up with some ungodly abomination that makes the soggy Whopper look edible by comparison. So there's a reason these companies just stick to the formula: all they HAVE is the formula. They don't have the ABILITY to do anything different or interesting. Disney has chased all the REAL artistic talents away. They're left with a woman who borrows her stage name from a bottled water company, and this is what you get from her. There ARE creative people left in the world - there are artists out there who make great films, make beautiful music, other forms of art, they do exist. Good art still exists. It's just that you're not going to get it from Disney.

2023.06.07 18:16 TarbusCavarus [RF] Uncle Jim

Prologue
As the end of autumn approached, the chill of morning and evening began to cut through like a hunting knife. Through the tanker's windshield, the driver could see a woman wearing a knitted scarf and a blanket on her shoulders. She had sat down in the middle of the road and was howling long and heart-wrenching like a lament. Passers-by looked at her with horror, surprise, or contempt. When a lady in a fur coat approached her to inquire, the unfortunate woman began to roll on the ground, thrashing about like a rolling log heading down the valley, and screaming with even greater force and deeper sorrow, so loud that it could be heard all the way to the shire, after which she stopped in a sob, crying quietly like the water of a lowland spring. She was Uncle Jim's eldest daughter.
Part I
Mr. and Mrs. Axelton were two retirees with charitable souls. They had the sign of charity burning on the soles of their dusty, second-hand shoes, laced up with shoelaces they got from the thrift store. They brought a bag of beans for the dog, bananas for the children, bread, bologna, and mustard for the homeless - lost souls from the outskirts of the city. They entered the basement of an abandoned building through labyrinthine paths surrounded by plywood and wrought iron fences. The building was marked with a red dot.
Around an improvised brick stove, illegally connected to the neighbourhood’s electricity network, sat Uncle Jim, Melissa, the children, and Baxter, opening cans of food received from a philanthropic organization. Baxter was a small mongrel with blue-blooded hunting dog lineage, who always hovered around Jim and helped him beg. Mrs. Axelton felt more compassion for the dog than for the family without a penny.
Jim spent his days in front of the Metropolitan Cathedral with Googie Gums, Mr. Blondey, Fane Fairfax, and Tane Cuthbert. They lived as best they could. On the drier days, they humbly lined up behind the priests, praying for them to give them something from the charity box. In the evenings, they opened a cheap two-litter bottle of beer, played backgammon, talked about the fate of the country, football, and the apocalypse.
One spring afternoon, a benevolent gentleman took Jim aside, treated him royally, and offered him an impossible-to-refuse deal. He handed him two thousand five hundred lei in cash, for which all he had to do was sign some blank documents. At that time, it was a good sum of money. Jim thought that luck had fallen upon him like a huge wheel of cheese, so he immediately accepted, without hesitation. With the money, he bought new clothes for Melissa, notebooks for the children, food, and drink in abundance.
At the beginning of the summer, a conflict erupted with Mr. Axelton over such an absurd issue that it would make customers of the "Tancredi Kingsley Jr." brewery doubt the honesty of the storyteller. Mrs. Axelton, a sensitive and volunteer person, was involved in a campaign to save stray dogs who, without the dedication of people like her, would have ended up in miserable shelters on the outskirts of the city. Those who were up for adoption were taken off the streets, washed, vaccinated, and sent to their new owners.
Jane, a neighbour from the ghetto, had told Jim one evening while gossiping on the roadside that significant profits could be made from selling animals. Therefore, seeing the strange pensioner walking through the neighbourhood week after week taking care of stray dogs, the idea arose in his mind that these actions could only have mercantile and hidden purposes, from which he was unfairly excluded from sharing the profits.
Despite Axelton's explanation, treating him to a sausage roll and a coffee from the vending machine, Jim remained unchanged in his opinions, considering his neighbour guilty of greed. When he saw him coming out of the building or on his way to the grocery store, he shouted at him from the other side of the street to demand an explanation and followed him grumpily like an unhappy landlord who had not been paid rent for a long time. He had become a real nuisance on the head of our unfortunate citizen, who now found himself forced to make unimaginable detours from the exit of the building to the bus station just to avoid the annoying neighbour with whom he did not want to continue the confrontation.
Part II
Fortunately, an unexpected twist of fate spared Mr. Axelton from a steep climb up the confrontation ladder when Jim was unexpectedly summoned to the station by a local police officer. It turns out he had signed a mortgage without any collateral which he had no chance of repaying in this lifetime. He was charged with fraud and sent to the White Gate prison for five years. No one visited him. When he was released, after two and a half years of serving, he limped and had only a few teeth left in his mouth. It was as if he had aged ten years.
Meanwhile, Melissa had coupled up with Fane and had a child with him. They moved together to the Hopeless Heights, a neighbourhood built specifically for needy people, and Jim's children were sent to an orphanage. Baxter was taken in by a kind-hearted nobleman who loved animals and owned a seafood restaurant, entrusting him to a mute maid who walked him around the blocks three times a day. Sometimes, on summer days, dressed in a bathrobe and a pair of flip-flops, Sir. Hatchet Jenkins would come out with two other small dogs as big as cats who walked swaying like wind-up toys. He walked the streets like a traveling circus performer, but if anyone dared to mock him, he became so furious that he turned into a steam boiler, blowing heat through his nostrils and obscenities at his enemy, threatening to punch them, showing them the cane he would strike his heels with.
Uncle Jim first moved in front of St. Nicholas Church, where Father Murphy O'Malley served. He was a small man, always carrying a leather briefcase like a spy movie security agent, had a carefully groomed moustache, a gold watch and ring, and patent leather shoes. Everyone said he had the gift. He came to church in a luxury car. When he opened the door, he was greeted by a multitude of beggars, some of whom had come from neighbouring quarters, trying to kiss his hand and ask for coins. Jim didn't last long there, the competition was too high.
Lately, he had been experiencing more frequent headaches. He walked with a cane down the narrow street, swaying in the wind like a turnip pulled from the ground. I didn't think he would last much longer, but Uncle Jim had a survival instinct that most mortals lack. He stopped first at Mr. Axelton's, with whom he had made amends in the meantime, and asked for a pair of boots for the snowy weather and a packet of aspirin for his headache. He found an old fur hat with ears that had been thrown away and drank a cup of mulled wine, given as charity for the souls of the dead. Then, he found shelter in a cave under the ruins of an abandoned manor.
In the morning, he emerged from the ground like a contemporary Lazarus and sat next to the all-night convenience store near the Agriculture Department. On his way out, the kindest customers would always leave him something: a roll, a coin with the king's face on it, half a salami stick, a pair of socks, a cube of melted cheese, or a bottle of curdled milk. He had a yellow plastic bag in which he loaded all of his products. In the evening, when he returned to his lair, it was always full of wonders.
Epilogue
When spring arrived, Jim began to bloom like snowdrops. His teeth grew anew, made of copper, his hair turned green like grass, his eyes started to distinguish details with the precision of an eagle, his skin became as smooth as that of young boys, his arms became steel, his forehead raised, his thoughts became clear, and his vision became as clear as that of great wise men. It was rumoured that he was making so much money that he could move to a hotel. The last time I saw him was on a foggy April morning. He got into a taxi and disappeared into the smoke of history.

SSJ3 Goku Bobblehead Repaint and Burger King Action Figure Stand Creation
Hi all. A buddy of mine has been building model aircrafts and other similar things for a few years, and myself and another buddy decided to ask him if he could work on some of our old DBZ figures. I had a cheaper SSJ3 Goku bobblehead that I've had for years that I got from my bother, but the paint job was pretty shabby and I've always thought about getting the paint job commissioned to be redone. My other buddy found his old DBZ action figures from Burger King (I think the year was 2000?) and he wanted a good stand for it, as they originally came on some flimsy plastic stands.
Anyways, I just wanted to share. I thought everything turned out to be pretty cool!

2023.06.07 18:07 newyork0120 This Could Be The Worst Song Ever Made (Part 1)

Well, after months of anticipation, the new Little Mermaid film finally released to theaters. As expected the film is garbage, and I can offer that review despite not seeing it for the same reason that I don't need to go order a Whopper at the new Burger King down the street in order to assess the quality of the food. I already know that the fries will be lukewarm and soggy; the bun on the burger will also be soggy; the Mayo will be scalding hot because they put the whole thing in the microwave; and the entire meal will be 3,500 calories, but I'll still be hungry 45 minutes after eating it because the food is made out of congealed grease and has no substantive nutritional value. I also know that the employee who serves me the food will scowl at me because he hates every customer who commits the sin of trying to patronize the establishment where he works; he'll also speak in a barely audible mumble so that I have no idea whether he even got my order or not: and then when the food comes out, it'll be clear that he didn't get the order right, but I'll just leave with the wrong order because it's not worth the trouble of trying to get a practically cataconic customer service worker to correct the mistake without making additional mistakes on top of it. That is the Burger King experience no matter which location you happen to be patronizing, and the same goes for Disney's cash grab remakes and for almost everything that Disney produces, even if they aren't remakes because after all, it's not like Disney ONLY makes remakes - they also make sequels, and they make sequels to remakes, and they make remakes of sequels.
Altogether, Disney is the fast food of the cinematic world: they churn out the same sludge over and over and over again, there is no creativity, there is no artistic inspiration, nobody involved has any love or interest for or in the projects that they're working on. That's the point: NOBODY involved in it actually CARES about the story. The people involved in The Little Mermaid remake had all the creative passion as the guy working the fry machine at the Burger King. It's the same kind of thing. Disney isn't TRYING to tell great stories anymore. They're just pumping out content for the masses and things for us to mindlessly consume, that's all they care about. That's how I know The Little Mermaid is bad: because there's not one single person involved in the project who cares about making it good.
I also know it's bad because the reviews say so - and it's not that I trust what reviewers say of course, it's that I trust what they DON’T say. You can't tell much about a movie by reading what the critics write, but you can often tell everything you need to tell by reading what's in between the lines, and in this case, the reviewers have generally agreed that The Little Mermaid is derivative and pointless and unnecessary and dull, and it has dreary animation and some subpar voice acting, yet they've given the film high marks anyway based on the sensational performance of the lead actress Hallie Bailey. The critics, they wouldn't dream of outright panning a film starring a black Little Mermaid. They have to find a way to like it, otherwise, they'll be racist. And these are always the most damning reviews: not the ones where critics give the film a thumbs down, but the ones where they're contorting themselves into all kinds of ungodly shapes in order to find a way to NOT give it a thumbs down.
Though some critics were more forthright in their criticism. The New York Times review from film critic Wesley Morris does praise the movie, of course, for its diversity and noble intentions, but it says that it's missing some things - specifically, Morris laments that the story lacks “joy, fun, mystery, risk, [and] flavor”. And that all makes sense so far - Disney content engine is specifically designed to avoid risk and instead produce fun content that is entirely devoid of fun. But Wesley goes further. He also says that “kink” is missing. Yes, Wesley Morris of the New York Times feels deeply wounded that the new Little Mermaid movie is not kinky. It apparently does not highlight any deviant sexual practices. There are no fetishes put on display or even discussed. And Morris is surprised by this, I guess. Those of us who have seen Disney trajectory in recent years may be sort of surprised by it too, but the difference is that we are pleasantly surprised, whereas Morris grieves. He can't believe, he's so sad that there's no kinkiness in The Little Mermaid.
