Maternity leave, PTO, look for new job?
2023.06.07 19:11 Wild_Basin Maternity leave, PTO, look for new job?
Looking to see if anyone has done this or has thoughts/insights. -For background reference, I've been with my current employer since 2019 and came in through an acquisition. I'm a remote employee and don't love my job 100%- I'm paid decently enough but am extremely under utilized and bored. I have been lucky though that I'm valued and have worked in multiple different areas as they see my strengths are needed. My company is teetering on bankruptcy or extreme downsizing in the next year, I have a feeling that remote employees have about 12 months until forced into an office and we aren't able to relocate due to my husband's industry not being strong in my company's HQ area.
- I'm due at the end of October and only get 4 weeks mat leave + any remaining PTO + short disability and then FMLA.
- I've calculated that I can get myself into 2024 with mat leave + company holidays +PTO
Anyone have insight on then taking advantage of my 2024 PTO starting in January and actively starting to look for a new job? This would provide me with an actual mat leave to recover and bond. I ended each of the past 3 years with over 120 unused hours of PTO that were not transferable (use it or lose it policy, except I was in job roles where I had no back up and was never able to take the time). Consciously, due to this I don't have any guilt over using 2024 PTO knowing that my goal would be to secure a different employer just looking for insight from others.

2023.06.07 18:54 Full_Disk_5270 Company missed payroll
Hi! I wanted some advice on how others would handle this situation. I work for a small agency that provides services through the DOE in NYC (not insurance). It is well known that the DOE is way behind on payout and could be 6-12 months before they pay. That being said, if you’re going to open an agency that provides these services, you obviously have to plan to still pay your staff.
Anyways, I am the clinical director of this company, supervising all of our staff. I found out last week that the company couldn’t make payroll because the DOE hasn’t paid for a few months. I have now found out we won’t be paid this week either and was told “hopefully next week”. Now, as the CD, I am the one who has had to field all complaints from staff and I am obviously just as mad as them. We are all still expected to go about our jobs, commuting to all clients, etc., with no clear date of when we will be paid. Also to note, the company has been open for five years so at this point they should be fine with their finances and in a system knowing the DOE pay is backed up. They claimed there were “extra expenses” the past few months??
To me this is a really bad sign and will likely happen again in the future since the company seems it can’t manage its finances. Am I an asshole if I get a new job and leave?? I really love my position but obviously can’t work without getting paid.
Please give me any thoughts on what you’d do?! I only started at the company 3 months ago 😖😭 and staff told me the payroll has been late in the past by 2-3 days really often.

2023.06.07 18:38 makegoodonit When your village just makes it worse
Both my husband and I work full time and our kids are both in daycare. None of the grandparents are local so if we went to have a date night it's going to cost us at least $100 plus some takeout for the kids and the babysitter. I've accepted that I don't really have a village unless they are being paid.
My husband however wants to get his parents more involved with our kids because they are very involved with our niece and nephew and they don't live that far away.
My SIL is a SAHM and has both sets of grandparents close to her. She has never paid for daycare. Her and her husband rely on the grandparents to watch their kids frequently. She doesn't live too far away from us either so before I had kids I hoped that I might be able to rely on her in a pinch if childcare wasn't available since our kids are near the same ages but it has never worked out that way.
We invited his parents to come up over the memorial day weekend and suggested that they come on Friday and we could go out to dinner for a couple hours and they could have grandparent time with the kids. And then we would barbecue for the weekend.
SIL found out about this plan and had her parents come to her house on Friday instead and then sent them to our house on Saturday with her two kids.
So not only did we not get a date night, but she got an overnight without her kids on a long holiday weekend. I work Monday through Friday and I get a limited number of holidays and time off. This person who doesn't work took advantage of my precious time off to make me take care of her kids and stole a rare date night from me! Even worse her kids get time with the grandparents all the time and my kids hardly ever get any and this rare time that they get did get to see their grandparents they had to split the attention with their cousins. Obviously looking after four little kids is a lot so even though the grandparents were up to help us we really didn't get any break.
It's been a week and I'm still pissed.

2023.06.07 17:31 ArkytiorLecter Update: finally responded to my father and stepmother (context and response in body)
| I am 36f. My father and I have always had a difficult relationship. He is a narc with depression. I usually describe it as "imagine if Eeyore was an asshole." He tended to shut himself away in his home office and play solitaire and buy and sell antique tools on eBay. I played basketball for year (sometimes with 2-4 games a weekend when I was playing AAU) and I think he came to a couple games here and there. He also didn't go on vacations with Mom and I (while they were married obviously, that is a whole different set of tales). He was more or less uninvolved with my general life aside from making me dinner (I ate alone, he ate with mom when she came home. I legit didn't know people ate family dinners aside from holidays for a very long time), and picking me up from school. They finally divorced when I was 16. He has remarried twice since. The first one sucked, the current one is relatively nice overall. My mom was the breadwinner by far and paid him a lot of money when they split in exchange for full custody of me. I was old enough and would have chosen her in a heartbeat, but she didn't want to put me in that position. She said she was happy to be the bad guy for me. She was an amazing woman and mother, and she was my best friend in the whole world. She passed unexpectedly in November of 2021. I am still devastated. I have spoken to them on the phone once or twice since Mom died. Mostly just texts on holidays and birthdays. The last time we spoke I had asked for space. I was (am) having a hard time dealing with losing mom and I wasn't in the mental headspace to deal with my father. There were other things going on as well. Mom's birthday is right before Mother's Day so it was a double whammy of pain and awfulness. These text exchanges happened after Mom's birthday, but before Mother's day. I had been agonizing over writing back since. I have been drafting this with my therapist's imput and finally sent this off on Monday. I have heard absolutely nothing since. I'm sure Dad is spending some time in self pity land. I'm honestly pretty proud with how it came out. Dear Dad and [stepmom2], You are right, I did ask for space. I have been struggling to come to terms with the death of my mother, and an absolute rocking of the first, and main stable environment I have ever known. I still cry a lot, and I am devastated every day for losing the best friend that I ever had. Dad, you asked me if I was sad we don't have a good relationship? I was, yes. For decades. Every year you shut yourself away. Every time you didn't come to something of mine. I vividly remember the time you didn't call me on my birthday because you were in Canada with [stepmom1] and it was "too expensive" for the international phone call. Extra $1.50 a minute. I struggled with anger and bitterness for so long, but I stopped. It wasn't healthy for me. The biggest help was one of my therapists who told me I needed to manage my expectations. I couldn't hold myself to the standard of the father I needed, so I needed to learn to accept the father you were capable of being. I have done that, and it has not been an easy journey. Throughout all of this, this is somehow my responsibility to fix. My responsibility to call you. You say you want to make the effort but you are the still the victim. Despite what you might have thought, Momma never alienated me from you or "stole" me. The worst thing she said was "he can't get out of his own way." As was per usual, she was and is correct. I don't know how or even if there is anything to fix. None of this is intended to be cruel, or hurtful. It wasn't easy to write. I'd like a better relationship, sure maybe? I'm just not sure how we will go about doing that. Maybe we can try keeping in more touch via text and see how things go. I do love you both, and I am very sorry for the losses you have suffered. 2023.06.07 16:44 Cahoonhollow AITA for not going to my sister’s birthday
I am the middle kid; I have two sisters. The oldest Aida is having a milestone birthday and requested we all attend her party. I live a 14 hour drive from Aida
Growing up I was referred to as the Imaginary Sister. I was removed from our home at 14 (I was abused by my father and mom was an alcoholic). The family continued to live together and do functions, vacations etc. I came home for the holidays and went on the occasional vacation with them. I spent very little time with Aida and Clara after my 14th birthday.
We are all now older adults. Aida and Clara both had their college education, weddings, and post graduate educations paid for by our parents. When I was 18, I landed at home again, I was accepted at colleges but both of my parents refused to pay for my education. I moved out shortly thereafter, I had to wait until 24 to go to college as I could not get any help until FAFSA would not consider my parents income. By the time I started college both Aida and Clara had graduated.
Aida has had parties when we were younger that I was specifically not invited to. Aida and Clara have each visited me twice or three times in 40 years. I have visited them more times than I can count. I drive there or fly there and pay my expenses.
Our mother passed away many years ago, she left us some money. Mine went to pay student loans and debts. Aida and Clara had no student loans theirs went to down payments homes. Our grandparents passed and had a sizeable estate, unfortunately we had a sleazy aunt who gave us a small amount of funds and the remainder would be distributed upon her death. Low and Behold sleazy Aunt has cut me and Aida out of the will, leaving funds to Clara I assume.
The small amount I got I put a down on a much smaller, much more run down home than Aida or Clara, I I finally paid of my student loans at 45. In time to get student loans for my kids. I might be able to pay off my home before I retire.
Aida wanted to make a pact that we get together every other year to see each other. (The years we don’t get together she goes to Europe with student groups.)
Originally, I told her I would go to her party but now I feel like the really long drive, or expense of the flight is more than I am willing to spend. (My house is literally falling apart – my bathtub is not useable, my upstairs rooms have no dry wall, I need a roof, and foundation work. I want to retire some day as I have been working to support myself since I left at 18. my funds are currently going to fixing my house, putting money in retirement, seeing my children and grandchildren.)
I feel like if they want to see me since they have had so many more financial benefits in life then me from our family that they can pay for the travel expenses otherwise I will not go. They both talk about retiring in the South in a home I could never dream of affording, AITA?

I would like to send a big thank-you to

2023.06.07 16:33 RMD010 Curious Case of SRK & his Business Ventures Journey (Part-2)
| In my first post, I thought I covered basically everything that’s associated with SRK & his business Interests, however I seemed to have overlooked upon few key details about his businesses and other avenues of his earnings as well in a big way. Here’s the breakdown of his other Business Investments/Earnings: SRK Website: I failed to find multiple supporting materials on this but based on a interview clip which I saw many years back and a supporting gossip post, I’m writing a gist of it. SRK actually launched his own website named www.SRKworld.com, a complete entertainment portal back in November 2000. The company that owned and operated the portal was Aryan Informatics which was named after SRK’s son. Apart from SRK, Juhi was the other investor in Aryan Informatics. SRK wanted to give updates on the website to his fans about his movies/promotions/events/fan interactions. Fans can also buy some of the merchandise, etc. But due to occurrence of dotcom bubble in 2000 after few months of website launch and portal’s association with Bharat Shah, the website as well as the company viz. Aryan Informatics was sold to B4U, a leading Bollywood based entertainment TV Network. Earning from the Movies: In 2014, SRK charged about 30-40 Cr for starring in a film. But in recent years, SRK has started to partake in profits instead of taking any actor fees upfront. For his recent release Pathaan, Shah Rukh Khan didn’t charge any fees for the movie and yet took home a lion's share from the earnings. Actor reportedly had a deal of 60% profit sharing as his remuneration from the movie. Since Pathaan was made on a budget of 270 Cr and makers earned a total profit of Rs 333 Crore, SRK was paid 200 Cr as his share. SRK's recent release Pathaan is currently India's biggest blockbuster and Bollywood's second highest grosser of all-time. Streaming Deals: Not many people know about this but back in 2016, Netflix announced the mega deal with SRK a day after Amazon Prime Video’s launch in India. Amazon has stitched multiple deals with Indian studios including Dharma Productions, Vishesh Films, and T-Series on similar lines. Netflix deal with SRK granted them the global streaming rights to the films in Red Chillies’ library, as well as any new movies from the production house that are slated for theatrical release within the next three years. Khan will also develop original content for the platform. Transactional details about streaming rights were not shared with media outlets. Kolkata Knight Riders: We did go over all were the co-owners in this team. But I missed on sharing the shareholding pattern of the KKR co-owners: SRK holds 55% of the team ownership & Jay Mehta/Juhi hold remaining 45% stake. The KKR Shareholding pattern changed quite a bit over the years. Knight Riders Sports Pvt Ltd, which runs KKR, had following shareholding pattern: 2008- Red Chillies Entertainment Pvt Ltd(RCEPL) had 9900 & Gauri 100 shares 2009- New shares were issued at Rs 10 per share price to RCEPL- 110,00,000 equity shares Sea Islands Investment Ltd - 50,00,000 equity shares Juhi Chawla Mehta - 40,00,000 equity shares KKR Co-owners at an Airport 2010- JCM sold to SIIL(Mauritius based company owned by Jay Mehta) about 40L shares at Rs 10 per share price. 2011 - ED found new shares allotment & sale unfair. Thus, transaction was subject to third-party auditing. Auditors told KRSPL that price should have been 70-86 per share(for issue of 50L shares of KRSPL to SIIL) & sale of 40L shares from JCM to SIIL should've been 83-99 per share. As per CCI guidelines, 86 per share value was evaluated. KKR’s Operations Snapshot: Knight Riders Sports's operating revenues range is INR 100 Cr - 500 Cr for the financial year ending on 31 March, 2022. It's EBITDA has increased by 63.97 % over the previous year. At the same time, it's book net worth has increased by 20.70 %. KKR’s Revenue Model: KKR has been the first IPL team to turn profitable, they broke even in March 2012. They have emphasized on scaling up the brand merchandising and also build an official fan base on the Manchester United Model. Currently KKR, third most successful IPL team, are the second-richest IPL team in the league with a net worth value of INR 740 crore. They are only behind Mumbai Indians (MI), who have a net value of INR 803 crore. - Media Rights: BCCI shares 40-50% of their broadcasting income (TV & OTT streaming) to IPL franchises based on league finish. Trophy winner will get the biggest share of the pie.
- Sponsorships: Sponsors have to cough up anywhere between ₹10-12 crore for their logo to be carried on the back of the KKR jersey and between ₹8-22 crore for the front. KKR earns about 20-30% of their revenue from their sponsors: MyFab11, Lux Cozi, Joy Personal Care, Money9, Jio, Royal Green, and Acko. Tire Company, Balkrishna Industries are the main sponsors of the team.
- Stadium tickets and gate passes: Eden Garden has the capacity to host 80,000 people, is the third-largest cricket stadium in terms of seating capacity. Franchise also sells gate passes and adds more money to their wallet.
- Merchandise Sale: KKR launched the ‘Shop KKR’ website to establish a strong connection with its fans. They sell trending products such as jerseys, shorts, caps, T-shirts, and keychains. In 2023, SRK launched the ‘Knight Club app’ to strengthen his team’s special bond with fans.
- Prize Money: If KKR win the IPL trophy they receive about 20 Cr., for second place: 13 Cr, third place: 7Cr & 4th pace: 6.5 Cr. Half of the prize money is distributed among the players only.
SRK with IPL Trophy in 2012 UK T20 Team[The Hundred]: Even though there is no update on which particular team Knight Rider’s group are after. I’m certain they are most likely eyeing London Spirit. KKR CEO Venky Mysore implied that he might want to change the name of his to-be Hundred team. SRK also has a winter holiday home in London from many years. He visits UK with his family & friends around December end, every year. SRK's UK T20 team has to be London Spirit. In fact, Lords cricket stadium [home ground of London Spirit] is about 1.5 miles from his London Mansion based in Park Lane, next to Hyde Park. Current London Spirit Ownership has 6 co-owners, who are mostly England Cricket Board Offcials. Byju’s: Though SRK has been signed up as brand ambassador, there are speculations that he also holds an undisclosed stake in Byju’s. Just like his investment in KidZania India, we don't know how much amount is invested. He’s definitely holding a minority stake. KidZania India: A Mexican edutainment brand's first project in Mumbai cost around Rs 100 crore and was launched in June 2013 at R City Mall in Mumbai’s Ghatkopar area. The centre is spread over more than 70,000 square feet. Another KidZania park is located at the Entertainment City in Noida with a standalone structure across three levels and 97,000sq.ft. Apart from Mumbai & Delhi-NCR, third park in Bengaluru will be opened soon. SRK’s actual investment in KidZania India is unknown but he holds about 26% stake. SRK at KidZania India's first project launch in Mumbai Endorsement Deals (Advertisements): SRK started his endorsement journey back in 1988, when he signed up for Liberty Shoes since then he never looked back. After his TV stint won him recognition, SRK landed in Mumbai. One of his first assignments was an ad for Tata Tea. Interestingly, Khan returned to the same brand in 2013 with the Chhoti si shuruaat campaign for Tata Tea. SRK is known to stick to quality brands for the longest time: his association with Hyundai has been about 25 years. He’s is often referred to as one of first employees of Hyundai India. SRK’s endorsement associations with brands include Liberty, Hyundai, Byju's, Big Basket, Pepsi, Frooti, Whirlpool, Nokia, Dish TV, LUX, Denver, Airtel, Royal Stag, Sunfeast, Pan Vilas, Kent, Mitsbushi Air Conditioners, Goibibo, LML, Cinthol, Videocon, PharmEasy, Nerolac, DHFL, D'decor, Pepsodent, Jet Airways, Gitanjali Jewels, Colgate Palmolive, Signature, Sprite, Tata Tea, ICICI Bank, Streax, Omega, Hewlett-Packard, Hero Punch Power, Reliance Jio, Tag Huer, Belmonte, Mayur Suitings, Top Ramen, Bagpiper, Godrej, Emami and many more. SRK's recent brand endorsement deals SRK's endorsement deal with brands such as Pan Vilas(they paid 20Cr back in 2014) was the biggest celeb endorsement deal of the time. In the past, SRK might have been available for big national/regional brands but from past few years he's been eyeing foreign endorsement deals such as Dubai Tourism, Netflix, LG, Cadbury, FoodPanda, Burjeel Holdings, Disney+ Hotstar, Coca Cola(Thumbs Up), etc. SRK's been brand ambassador for over 50 brands throughout his ad campaigns career. He said because of his earnings from ads and weddings, he was able to upscale his movie's production and execute the script in the manner it deserved. He charges around 4-10 Cr per day for Ads. Why Brands prefer SRK? According to a TAM report, he adds over 3% share of volume on TV with average visibility of 4 hours per day across all TV Channels. Based on another report, he rakes up to 6% share of television advertisement market. SRK's been a pioneer and gold standard of brand endorsements. Thats why even esteemed global brands like Tag Huer have signed him up as brand ambassador for over a decade now. Recently, his son's luxury streetwear brand D'Yavol X was sold-out within hours even though the prices were high. Forbes India 2013 Cover emphasizing on Brand SRK Director of Hasee Toh Phasee and ad filmmaker Vinil Mathew thinks SRK’s presence ensures maximum exposure. He says, “Shah Rukh Khan is the number one actor in the country. Any brand that wants to project itself as the number one product for its target group would want to associate with SRK. With him you also send across the message that you are the best just like him. It’s the best way to reach across the globe as well as to smaller towns. With him on board a brand wins the battle of perception.” A Still from SRK's movie Om Shanti Om(2007), where both SRK & Shreyas argue in front of a huge Tag Heuer Billboard. World Tours: 1997 – Asha Bhonsle’s Moments in Time Concert in Malaysia. 1998 - Shahrukh–Karisma: Live in Malaysia concert. & part of The Awesome Foursome world tour across the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States along with Juhi Chawla, Akshay Kumar and Kajol. In 2013, his rate was reportedly US$15,000, while according to Siasat, he now charges more than US$300,000 simply to appear for a limited time without giving a performance. Performing Dance/Skits at the Weddings: SRK earns a ton of money from heartthrob performances at weddings too. Various sources report that an SRK performance in the weddings range from Rs 4 to 8 crore. SRK is pretty picky due to his packed schedule and prefers to only accept opportunities from people he knows i.e. famous billionaire businessmen and celebrities. https://preview.redd.it/4owthb2qvl4b1.jpg?width=700&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ddbffdb4dfeced71869cf8280cb4f409ec7814ab SRK reportedly receives 250 event invitations in 2012, but only attended 10, while in 2013, he gave a 30-minute performance at a wedding at Dubai’s Madinat Jumeirah hotel for US$1 million. Future Plans: SRK’s future business interests could be opening of restaurants and possibly foray into other sports like hockey, football, etc. Also, there is possibility of Knight Riders owning franchises in WIPL(for Kolkata) & Saudia Arabia once the T20 league is found and there’s sponsorship/broadcasting deal is in place. 2023.06.07 16:24 MelW14 Modern Spaces NYC?
Do people from Modern Spaces NYC (specifically Astoria) not know how to answer phones? Or emails? Or texts? I’ve had 2 separate instances of trying to contact 2 different people regarding apartments I was VERY interested in and apparently they’re impossible to get a hold of. Multiple phone calls, texts, etc. Super unprofessional. Sorry had to rant.
Also, beware of Alex Giannikas from there, I paid $40 to apply for an apartment that wasn’t even available and he refuses to answer any of my emails or refund the money. I know it’s not a lot of money but I’m sick of these people taking advantage of renters because the market is so crazy.

2023.06.07 16:23 HAMIO269h Animal PHARM (To Australian Pharmacists)
Tried posting this on Australia, got rejected because my account is too new, so guess I will just post it here. If anyone relates to this, I would appreciate your help in sharing it. Otherwise, thank you for stopping by.
Fellow working-class pharmacists, you have heard already about the strange dream that I had last night. But I will come to the dream later. I have something else to say first.
I do not think, dear fellow working-class pharmacists, that I shall be with you for much time longer, and before I move on, I feel it my duty to pass on to you such wisdom as I have acquired. I have had a long career, I have had much time for thought as I work in countless community pharmacies, and I think I may say that I understand the nature of our career in this country as well as any pharmacist now working. It is about this that I wish to speak to you.
Now, fellow working-class pharmacists, what is the nature of this career of ours? Let us face it: our careers are arduous, thankless and miserable. After 5 years of studying and training, we become the lowest paid healthcare professionals in the country. We are given just so much salary as will pay our bills, and those of us who are capable of it are set to work under harsh conditions with minimal or even no breaks; and the very instant we demand for more, we realise the truth - there are always immigrants who have no choice but to accept worse conditions. No working-class pharmacists know the meaning of reward or appreciation after they have practised for a year. No working-class pharmacists are understood. The life of a working-class pharmacist is misery and slavery: that is the plain truth.
But is this simply part of the order of nature? Is it because this country of ours is so poor that it cannot afford a decent life to pharmacists who serve its people? No, pharmacists, a thousand times no! Our country is developed, its healthcare system recognises our role. It is capable of affording decent working conditions to all of us working-class pharmacists. Pharmacists are one of the most trustworthy professionals in the country. Its people need us for quality healthcare. Why then, do we continue in this miserable condition? Because nearly the whole of the produce of our labour is stolen from us by the body who represents solely the interests of pharmacy owners, the Pharmacy Guild of Australia. There, fellow working-class pharmacists, is the answer to all our problems. It is summed up in five words, The Pharmacy Guild of Australia. It is the only real enemy we have. Remove it from the scene, and the root cause of poor working conditions is abolished for ever.
Pharmacy owners, and investor owners, particularly, are the only people that consume without producing. They hardly work in the pharmacy, and if they do, they do not practise with standards, they do not have up-to-date knowledge, they are too busy to check prescriptions thoroughly, they cannot even vaccinate. Yet they are the lord of all working-class pharmacists.
You pharmacists who can vaccinate, how many vaccinations have you done during the outbreak of COVID? And what about your pharmacy owner? While you bore the burden of this crisis, sacrificing your time, energy, and even personal well-being, they made record profits hiding in the safety of their offices.
And you pharmacists who are passionate about aged care and medication reviews, can you ever be hired by residential aged care facilities who do not profit from medicines? No, because the pharmacy guild of Australia have vehemently opposed the government’s idea of allowing you to be hired separately, insisting that pharmacists should only serve aged care facilities while being employed by a community pharmacy.
And you pharmacists who work tirelessly even on weekends, do you remember who advocated for the government to lower your minimum wage on Sundays and public holidays? The Pharmacy Guild of Australia. They pushed for reduced wages during weekends and public holidays, yet cry for everyone’s support, pretending to represent you, the hardworking pharmacists, when policies like 60-day dispensing, which may hurt their profits but benefit the public are put forward by the government.
And you, young and ambitious pharmacists who aspire to serve our people independently, why does owning a pharmacy require millions of dollars upfront? Why must you buy a pharmacy to own a pharmacy? Have you ever questioned why a pharmacy business, even if it is losing money, can still be valued at millions by the banks? Because the Pharmacy Guild of Australia has made sure that the laws protect their interests by imposing limitations on the number of pharmacies allowed in the country. They prevent newcomers and innovative pharmacists like you from entering the market, hindering progress and improvement within the industry, while boasting about buying pharmacies and flipping them like properties they are. None of any other developed nations are pressured by a group of pharmacy owners to limit their number of pharmacy in the country, allowing pharmacy owners to dictate their people’s access to medicines.
And you, pharmacists who have walked away from the industry because of the despicable conditions, no one will miss you, because the Pharmacy Guild of Australia, ever so relentless in its pursuits, has consistently advocated the government to bring in more immigrants to bear the same, if not more abysmal conditions. And do not forget our poor new graduates and interns, burdened by the weight of debt, devoted 5 years, that is, half a decade in becoming a pharmacist. Most of them will have no choice but to remain trapped in this state of servitude for at least another 5 years, silently contemplating a different career, all the while bound to the whims of pharmacy owners. And let us not forget the unpaid trainings and meetings they will be pressured into attending. Ex-pharmacists, your absence will hardly be noted, and so will your toil, sweat and blood.
And to you, the noble pharmacists, who strive to do what is right. Bear in mind that Medschecks will continue to be your Key Performance Indicator. You will still be questioned by your pharmacy owner about why you have not done 20 Medschecks per month and why each of them is not completed within five minutes or less. Your speed in dispensing medications will continue to be closely watched. Any time you spend with customers that does not translate into sales will still be met with disapproval. However, remember, any error you commit, any mistake you make under such pressure, will still rest solely on your shoulders. Soon, the task of prescribing will be added to your burden, all while the abysmal compensation remains unchanged. Your rewards? The same old trinkets - movie tickets, pizzas, trivial parties, and whatever else can be easily written off their taxes. They will offer you anything that carries a semblance of appreciation, yet costs them next to nothing.
And you, the sole pharmacists, always working alone by yourself in the pharmacy. Your ten-minute breaks will remain a mere illusion. You will continue to juggle phone calls, inquiries, retail-related problems, dispensing, checking, and dare we forget, vaccinations. If a customer becomes unhappy, an occurrence all too common in this line of work, it is your face they will remember, your name they will mutter in discontent. The owner? Absent as always. It is you who bears the brunt of it all.
In spite of everything, the pharmacy owners will always be the ones to represent you - on the news, in parliament, demanding more investment from the government, in the white coats they almost never wear. The catch? They will be lining their own pockets, all while using your name. The unsuspecting public, will remain unaware that these are not the faces they always see in their local pharmacies. They will not realise that these owners are far removed from the front lines, from the pharmacists who are the heart and soul of the profession.
Is it not crystal clear, then, fellow working-class pharmacists, that many of the challenges and hardships we face in our profession spring from the tyranny of the Pharmacy Guild of Australia? Only get rid of it, and the fruits of our labour would truely belong to us. Almost overnight we could become free and independent. What then must we do? We must dedicate ourselves tirelessly, day and night, body and soul, to overthrowing the Pharmacy Guild of Australia and their oppressive regulations imposed upon our country!
That is my message to you, fellow working-class pharmacists: Rebellion! I do not know when that rebellion will come, it might be in a week or in a hundred years, but I know, as surely as I see this ground beneath my feet, that sooner or later, justice will prevail. Keep your gaze fixed upon that vision, my fellow pharmacists, for the remaining time we have in this career. And above all, pass on this message of mine to those who come after you, so that future pharmacists shall carry on the struggle until it is victorious.
And now, my fellow pharmacists, I will tell you about my dream of last night. It was a dream of the country as it will be when the Pharmacy Guild of Australia has vanished.
In my dream, our profession had undergone a transformation, one as profound as it was liberating. The shackles of oppressive regulations had dissolved, and we stood, not as mere cogs in a machine dictated by the few, but as the heart of a healthcare system that truly valued our contributions. The dream of operating a pharmacy was no longer a mirage for the young and ambitious, attainable only by the privileged few. The market was open, and opportunities were abundant. The profession thrived, on the innovation and competition of pharmacists.
This is the world as it could be. It is a dream, yes, but as I have seen, dreams hold power. Dreams inspire change. And I ask you, fellow pharmacists, to believe in this vision. For it is only when we dare to dream, that a new era will begin in our industry. Let this dream guide us and let it remind us that a better future awaits. As surely as the dawn breaks after the darkest night, our moment of liberation will come.

2023.06.07 15:52 liannadommex Landlord has gone MIA when it comes to resigning lease
So I’ve lived in my building for 2 years with a roommate with no issue. At the beginning of May, my landlord sent my roommate and I a lease renewal form, but my roommate decided he was going to move elsewhere so I had to find someone else. I successfully found a girl to take his place very quickly and she came from Ohio to check out the apartment and hand in her application for a lease takeover in person.
The initial issue that the landlord mentioned is that she’s a real estate agent so she doesn’t have paystubs. In lieu of paystubs, she provided bank statements for the last 4 months that show a substantial amount of cash ($35 - $60k) and, as an act of good faith, said she would pay 6 months of her half of the rent upfront. The landlord explained that that’s illegal in NYC but good to know and he would be getting back to us shortly about whether she was approved or would need a guarantor. That was May 18. It is now June 7 and he has not provided an answer one way or the other. I’ve followed up multiple times to no avail. The rent office emailed me asking where my lease renewal is and I explained the situation, which they had no idea about, and they added the landlord and leasing office to the thread to serve as a reminder. Still no response. Mind you, June rent has already been paid and the lease was supposed to restart on June 1.
My question is are they ignoring me because they’re trying to rent out my apartment? I’m not 100% clear on what the law is but certainly there has to be a notification period of at least 30 days if they don’t plan on resigning. And obviously there is a lack of communication between the rent department and the lease department, which is crazy as this is a building with only 6 units so this really shouldn’t be getting lost in the fold. If they’re trying not to renew, I’m definitely confused because in May they had no problem with me continuing the lease and I’ve never been late or missed a payment.
Can anyone tell me what my rights are in this situation? Because technically my lease is up and I haven’t heard a word one way or the other in almost a month.

2023.06.07 15:05 rogue714x [NY] First paycheck at new company much lower than expected.
Hi all- I recently got a new job (NYC), and my base salary increased about $11,000 from my last job (also located in NYC). However, when I received my first paycheck, it was only about $200 more compared to my last jobs paycheck. Paychecks are issued semi-monthly.
What’s stranger is that the new job covers benefits 100% - last job I paid extra for benefits. Especially with this in mind, I would think the increase per paycheck would have been substantially higher. Further, I’m still within the same tax bracket.
What can I be missing here? Although I’m salaried, the “hourly rate” and hours worked were correct. I just can’t seem to figure out where all my money is going.
Thank you for the help! Please let me know if I can provide more info..

2023.06.07 14:52 StoneColdStatistics Annual leave pay for zero hour contract and not being able to carry it over
Hi
We are in England
This is on behalf of my MIL.
My mum in law is a part time carer on a zero hour contract. She works between 12 - 20 hours a week on average depending on the company's needs. Her contract says she is entitled to 28 days annual paid leave.
Firstly, she started in Dec 2022 and the company's tax years runs 1 April - 31 March. So she worked 4 months and took 2 days holiday, thinking she could carry over 7 days as like her previous job, thinking it was normal employment law, to be able to carry over 7 days into the next year.
She has now learnt that the company she works for does now allow for holidays to be carried over, and has been told she has effectively lost the 7 days she accrued. Are they allowed to do this?
Secondly, she has also been told that due to the nature of the business, if a client cancels the appointment, which one of the people she cares for did on Monday as they had family gathering, this will have to be taken as a holiday, so she was supposed to work 2 x 4hr shifts, but only did the afternoon shift, so 4 hours will be paid holiday pay and deducted from her 28 days annual leave. She was told on the day not to attend, and told a day later that this money comes out of the holiday pay. Is this legal?

2023.06.07 14:27 Gullible_Chapter_275 Expedited Passport Still Not Here
I'm flying out to Europe with the love of my life and this is our first trip internationally and together. I am absolutely beating myself up for not getting this done sooner, nonetheless I had no clue the passports in the country were backed up.
I am flying out on Wednesday (6.14) I have been calling the 1877 number to no avail. I haven't spoken to anyone it's always too busy. Now I am freaking out, I fly in literally a week and have no idea what to do. Everything is already paid for, I will literally just cry if i cannot go on this trip.
Please help me reddit, Am I able to go in to the DC or NYC agency same day with my flight itinerary and get a same day passport? I have no idea how the process works anymore the last time I had to do something like this was for my cousin in 1999.

2023.06.07 14:21 Rare_Parsley3160 My oldest child (NB22) is currently homeless and I have not invited them to move back home
They live about an hour away. Last week I visited them with plans to help them move into a new apartment. Once there, I found out that they hadn't actually talked to the new landlord (only the other existing tenants) and couldn't move in until they did so. Ended up that there was no way to reach the landlord so we put most of their belongings into storage. I believe they spent one, maybe two, nights in their old apartment before they were evicted. They've spent a few nights couch surfing with friends, and they've visited their local homeless shelter looking for a bed. Last night they called looking for help, but I didn't know what to tell them. They have not asked to move back home, and I have not offered.
The reasons behind that are complicated. They moved out of the house when they were 18 because we were not getting along as a family. They were messy, rude and fought with us continuously. Their little sister spent most of her time at the neighbors to avoid the fights, and we had to put her into therapy. (All of that ended when they moved out.) Looking back I know that they will say I kicked them out, but in my view point they were the one who walked out the door. I remember going out of my way to deliver some personal items to them about a week later and they wouldn't even say "thanks". Them moving out was probably a good thing for the rest of our household.
We continued to support them financially over the past few years. We paid for a semester of college which was a stupid thing to do. I'm not blaming them at all for that, I should've known better but at the time we were desperate to help them find some "structure" in their life. They used a car we owned and maintained until it fell apart. We provided them with money for security deposits for 3 to 4 different apartments over the years. And we helped them with rent money when they needed it.
We've also tried to support them emotionally as well within some limits. They've been home for short (2 to 3 day) visits at holidays. Unfortunately during at least one of those visits they went through things they were specifically told not to touch, and ended up taking an old skillet and some dresses. (They had been caught stealing several personal items from their mom when they lived at home.) They could've asked for those things, but by sneaking them out of the house it brought back all the old feelings of distrust.
They've had similar relationships with their roommates. Most places they have ended up renting a room in a house with strangers. (This last place was an exception in that they knew at least one of them in-person, and the other on-line.) Every roommate experience has ended up with fights, accusations of theft and declarations that the other people are terrible. It just makes me think of the expression that if everyone around you is an asshole, maybe you're the asshole. I saw how they were living when I helped them move out of their last place, and I would not want to live like that.
So, that's it. I can't invite them home because I'm concerned about the safety and stability of my family. I can't give them money because I've been doing that for years and it just never stops. We've tried to help them find housing resources but there just aren't any with how things are going. And if we try to help too much we're afraid that we'll be seen as the primary resource, and we just can't do that.
