I (F33) love my partner (M44) and he’s accepted me and my 3 kids in a very caring way but I am unsure if I’ve overlooked the importance of certain issues and would like to know if any of them are correctable so that we might move forward to marriage.
My partner and I made our relationship official over a year ago. I could tell he was very much into his work and used to living his bachelor lifestyle. We dated, developed strong feelings for one another and got serious, he met my kids, we talked future.
Everything was great although there was stress because he stepped up to fill his manager’s (we’ll call him Sam) role as a way to expedite his career advancement-advice from Sam’s boss (we’ll call her Trish). On rare occasion he was a bit flakey -making plans and then not following through or forgetting- but we talked about it and it seemed to improve. After months of dedication he was not offered the job by Trish who said her hands were tied.
Trish and Sam both followed a mutual colleague to another company and soon my partner followed. We went long distance at this point but he instantly became consumed with work. Sam eventually started having issues at work with people not liking the way he did things and my partner stepped in to help.
Soon, Sam went on various trips and medical leave and my partner was directed by Trish (Sam’s boss at this company too) to fill the role as a way to expedite his career advancement. My partner did this for months and it weighed on our relationship. We planned for me to move closer to him with my kids and join the company as well. Trish then advised against me joining so it suddenly was no longer on the table in his eyes. I found a good paying job at a different company down the street and my kids and I moved into our own place, closer to him in this other state. It took about 6 months but we finally got settled in and I told him I was done moving and wanted to set down roots here. Our plan was to finish out our leases and then get married and all live together.
The flakiness returned in multiple ways this time: through being unable to follow plans because work got in the way, not being present (on company phone or talking calls), to saying he was staying late at work when in reality he had a networking dinner to go to and tried to omit it not knowing a mutual friend had mentioned it to me. The relationship issues caused by work continued to the point where I would cry regularly about his priorities, him not showing up for us in various ways and our my concerns for our future.
He continues to give this role all he’s got for more months, saying that focusing on his career now will pay dividends. In the meantime I start to notice his bad habits increase in frequency; nose picking, poor dental hygiene, not taking showers at night, skipping meals while at work, speaking badly about people because Trish thought it was funny and being dismissive of the issues I’d bring up to work through.
When it came time, Trish again had her hands tied and my partner did not get the role. Now he is sad, crying, feeling let down and overlooked. He seems to be expressing some of the same hurts through all this that I had when talking to him about how he put work above our relationship. I’m sad to see him like this but I do want to help him.
At this point Trish gave someone else the job and spoke to my partner about other roles like this one at sites that are in other states. I told him I felt I could never sacrifice enough for him and his career, reminded him that I also have ambitions and wasn’t sure he’d do the same for me and said I did not support another move.
He was upset and feeling unsure of what his next steps could be but then asked me how I felt about him asking Trish for a corporate role where he might travel two weeks of each month and not be connected to a specific location along with having more separation between work and home. I reminded him that we spoke about having children and of my expectation that someone would be in the trenches with me on the daily.
I don’t care about work or our income more than our family life and I feel like I need him to lead whatever family we are going to have with those same values. I don’t want to turn away from him but I don’t know if I see the same future we spoke about or even one where I would have a husband who puts me ahead of himself the way that I do or father who is there for his children at the end of the day.

Hi all- I’m enjoying this subreddit quite a bit. I love learning from all of you and seeing different paths from like-minded folks.
My husband and I live in a HCOL area across the country from family and are expecting our first child. The plan was always to move back east, buy a house in a MCOL or LCOL area and be close to family. Unfortunately my husband’s job is not flexible for the next 2-3 years so we’re staying out west a little longer than planned. We currently live in good size 2 bedroom condo (1200 sqft) and are lucky enough to have a large private patio (800 sqft) that can be used year-round.
We both work hybrid schedules: 2 days in the office, 3 days from home. The second bedroom has served us well the last several years as an office/guest room, but now that baby is coming, an office/guest room/nursery just doesn’t seem realistic any longer.
We are on a few waitlists for infant daycare with no realistic chance of getting in, so we have decided to go with a nanny for at least the first year. Given this, we know it’s going to be next to impossible for both of us to WFH effectively with baby and nanny around, let alone have overnight guests.
We are both very close to my parents who live on the east coast and want them to come visit as much as possible. They are entering retirement so they have a lot of time/flexibility and live comfortably, but they are not wealthy by any means. We love sharing experiences with them and want them to be as involved as they can be with their first grandchild. We don’t want them to shell out $$$ for a hotel every time they come, and we also don’t want cost to hinder them from visiting.
Homes in our area (even to rent) are exorbitantly expensive. Even if we rented a 3 bedroom house or townhouse in our area, it would certainly be less than 2,000 sqft (likely close to 1,500) and close to 10k/month in rent. Here’s where my (potentially crazy) scheme comes in. We’re thinking of renting a 2 bedroom apartment for my parents in a nice community that’s a 5 minute drive from our place. It’s in a very family-friendly planned community that’s walkable with shops, restaurants, Whole Foods, movie theater, fitness centers, playgrounds etc. While my parents would use it when they come to visit, my husband and I would also use it as our office space when we WFH 3 days a week. This would give us the flexibility of basically no commutes for the 3 days we don’t go to the office which translates to ~12 hours/week combined. Additionally, since it is so family friendly, it’d be a great place to take our son to the parks/playgrounds etc as he gets older. It would also be great for other family/out of town visitors to use.
The rent is $3,000/month. Even combined with our mortgage/HOA/taxes/insurance payment of $3,300/month, $6,300/month (plus internet/utilities) is significantly cheaper than renting a larger home in our area. I know it’s quite unconventional, but this seems like a good way to give my parents their own space, and a way for us to enjoy the benefits of working remotely while allowing our son and nanny to be comfortable at home. Is this idea totally nuts? Anything I’m not thinking of that we should be considering? Has anyone done something similar? Or if you’re in a similar situation living far from family, how are you handling things? Appreciate any feedback or thoughts!

Pretty sure it came out around 2015-2017.
I think the main character was either a brit being relocated to a new job in the US, or an American coming to the UK. I remember there being a relatively famous actor somewhere in the cast (not sure if it was the protagonist or not).
I only ever watched the first episode, but I believe the whole premise of the show was that the character would cause a series of events that somehow led to the end of the world (but I don't think there were any sci-fi or supernatural elements, so I assume the plot was political or smth).
I remember the first episode mostly dealing with the main character adapting to his new job and location. Fish out of water type stuff. I recall a scene where he walks into his new office and it's a large empty room. The job is a bit of a downgrade or something.

I will explain my situation in order of events (tl;dr in the end): - Some weeks ago: My PC I built 3 years ago showed some few signs of malfunction, it shut down by itself once, and some micro-freezes while playing The Sims 3 with quite some expansions. - Two weeks ago: My PC wouldn't boot up, I pressed the power button and PC didn't show any signs of fans spinning, no beeps, nothing, it was as if the front panel cables were not connected, only the "idle lights" on the motherboard that are always turned on when connected to the PSU. But I made it work by disconnecting the PC and keeping the power button pressed for around 30 seconds, aka capacitor discharge. Then I could use it for a full day without problems. - 1 day later: Aaand my PC died again, pressed the power button, but no fans spinning, no beeps, nothing. I tried the capacitor discharge again multiple times, but no luck, so I should start testing other stuff. I tried: 1. The screwdriver technique over the power button pins to see if it was a problem of the case, but no luck. 2. Disconnected almost all componentes from the PSU (GPU, SSDs, RAMs, Fans, etc.), kept the CPU connected to the motherboard, but not the PSU (is that right to do?). I tried the screwdriver over the power pins again and using the power button... no signs of life. - Thought the problem was the PSU, as the problem was solved before after a capacitor discharge (in my ignorance, I thought capacitors were only part of the PSU), and the motherboard had idle lights turned on and no signs of damage, so it didn't seem bad.... so I bought another PSU (I bought one with a longer guarantee period) - Yesterday: The PSU arrived and replaced the previous one... no signs of life either (I admit I felt really dumb for spending money on a new PSU without it being the solution), I made sure everything was well connected, and it seems like it is... so I don't know what else to do other than to buy another motherboard. I tried removing multiple components again but no luck.
So, I'm in this situation where I don't know if it's really a motherboard problem or maybe CPU (?). I'd think that if it was a CPU problem the PC still would try to turn on, but fail to POST... the problem is that it doesn't even POST, it just keeps doing nothing, so I think it's the motherboard even though it still has some lights turned on and no damage is visible.
I would like some insight about if I should just buy a new motherboard or maybe test something else, I'm still pretty much a beginner on PC building.

I just finished re-reading Out of the Shadows and I’m still slightly scratching my head about the subterfuge and double-crossing. Is my summary below accurate? Where am I confused or missing something important?
So…

1. The Grafs are rich and like weapons and have no morals about who they do business with.
   
2. Lourna Dee met Chancey Yarrow at military school and saw she’s a hyperspace genius.
   
3. Chancey worked hard to open private hyperspace lanes but still fell on hard luck as an Outer Rim hauler with the Byne Guild.
   
4. Lourna came to/kidnapped Chancey to help build a hyperspace weapon called Gravity’s Heart for the Nihil.
   
5. The Nihil under Lourna Dee attack/use Gravity’s Heart to try and capture Chancey’s daughter to maintain leverage on Chancey for the project.
   
6. The Grafs and Lourna Dee know each other because Lourna contracted them to build her ship and is planning to overthrow Marchion Ro someday.
   
7. Both Lourna and Chancey know that they need access to Mari San Tekka to get path data to complete the project and Marchion agrees under the condition that Nan accompany the Oracle with Dr. Uttersond.
   
8. The Grafs pay the Nihil not to attack them so they have a connection through which Xylan learns about the progress on Gravity’s Heart.
   
9. Xylan Graf hatches a plan with his Matriarch Catriona to double-cross the Nihil by exposing their weapon and hiring Chancey to work for them exclusively instead.
   
10. After the Nihil attack on Syl fails, Xylan brings Syl into his trust on Coruscant by hiring an assassin to fail at killing her.
    
11. Knowing the Nihil have informants in the Senate, the Graf plan is to provoke a confrontation between the Republic and the Nihil which reveals their weapon in the Berenge sector, thereby allowing the Grafs to gain full and exclusive access to Chancey’s research.
    
12. Xylan does this by proposing an exploratory mission to the Berenge sector to disprove the claims that both Syl and he know are true.
    
13. Chancey’s former professor, a Gungun scientist named Wolk, figures out that the Nihil have the weapon on his own, and is assassinated (perhaps by Grafs, perhaps by Nihil).
    
14. The Nihil informant in the Senate is actually Ghirra Starros, who approves Xylan’s request as long as he brings along Jedi, perhaps hoping to deliver both the Grafs and the Jedi to the Nihil for her lover Marchion Ro to experiment on when he returns from his “sojourns”.
    
15. The Grafs use their alliance with the Nihil to stage an ambush at their family compound Everbloom, sending the Padawans and Syl to the Gravity’s Heart as per their deal.
    
16. The Grafs double-cross is sending Vern, Cohmac, and Jordanna after them, expecting the Jedi and Republic to defeat the Nihil.
    
17. In the end, Lourna loses because the Gravity’s Heart is destroyed and the Republic is hot on her trail.
    
18. After the battle at Gravity’s Heart, Chancey secured a Graf ship for her daughter Syl and her girlfriend Jordanna and gets to work on a new secret research lab on a Hynestian asteroid.
    
19. Chancey wins because she gets to do research for the Grafs instead of the Nihil (though she has sold her soul from her previous activism).
    
20. Syl and Jordanna win because they get their own ship and go off to find Maz Kanata on Takodana.
    
21. Ghirra Starros loses because the Jedi and the Grafs survive the confrontation in the Berenge sector and Marchion doesn’t get his Jedi or his weapon.
    
22. The Grafs are on the Republic radar (despite having funded Starlight Beacon!) as potential bad actors playing both sides.
    
23. Vernestra Rwoh has secrets from her elders in the Jedi Council including her light-whip, her hyperspace visions, and her “final Path” from Mari San Tekka.
    
24. And as a side note, additional subplot, Dr. Uttersond May have arranged for a family of Ugnaughts on Tiikae to steal Mari San Tekka’s puzzle box as one of his side hustles ala Trail of Shadows.
    

So, is that accurate? What did I miss?

Hello all!
I’m planning on going on a 10 day trip with my family (all adults and teenagers) to Costa Rica in mid July. We would like to stay in an area that’s a bit out of the way without a ton of tourists everywhere, but not so out of the way that there’s not much to do and it feels totally deserted.
Additionally, although I’m not totally fluent, I speak Spanish pretty well and am really excited about being able to practice my Spanish with natives in a Spanish-speaking country. For that reason, I was looking to stay somewhere that, save some tourists, is predominately Spanish speaking where people wouldn’t instantly switch into English upon seeing someone who’s not a local as I heard is common in big tourist areas like La Fortuna and Manuel Antonio.
I realize that Spanish is much more common in areas of the country where fewer tourists go, which tend to to be the less interesting places (at least in the eyes of foreigners), but was wondering if anyone could recommend places to stay that are mostly Spanish-speaking but still have some interesting things to do and aren’t so underdeveloped and out of the way that it’s a major inconvenience for travelers.
I was thinking of flying into Liberia and staying around Playas del Coco/Playa Hermosa (Guanacaste) which seem (correct me if I’m wrong) to have nice beaches and restaurants and a decently developed city and don’t seem as completely overrun by English speaking tourists as somewhere like Manuel Antonio. I was then thinking of making some day trips to some more remote locations and national parks and one multi-day trip to La Fortuna from this “base.” I am totally open to new plans if anyone could recommend some better locations, though.
Any recommendations for other areas to stay that are better suited to what I’m looking for or general advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Did you know that the nursery is certified to be “nematode free”? Do you know how to obtain a nematode free certificate? You use a special pesticide called “nematicides”. Nematicides like “1,3-Dichloropropene” found in all nematicides. Examples of ACUTE health effects include headaches, stinging eyes, rashes, blisters, blindness, nausea, dizziness, diarrhea and death. Examples of known CHRONIC effects are cancers, birth defects, reproductive harm, immunotoxicity, neurological and developmental toxicity, and disruption of the endocrine system. Did you see that last long term side effect? DISRUPTION OF THE ENDOCRINE SYSTEM!!! As is, adrenal gland cortisol disruption, thyroid gland hormone production, etc., etc., etc.!

I'm a year 1 Electrical and Electronics Engineering student. I got an internship at an automobile company but I've been posted at their Electric Vehicle Manufacturing plant in a Bus Factory. This plant is the back end of line where the different electrical parts are simply assembled and connected and the chassis and all are made. The current project I was handed is basically to document the various problems/issues that are encountered in the final Electric Vehicle and the required steps to take to solve those problems in an application interface on Microsoft PowerApps. The goal is to also take photographs of the required connections and parts so that the worker understands well as to what to do to solve the problem. The learning outcome of this project as told by my mentor was that I will learn to identify various parts in an EV, learn about their function and the various issues and solutions encountered.
Now here is my concern:
While I am learning the names of various parts, their locations and how to identify them. But I only am able to briefly know about their functions and what signals the diff wires carry. Like: The traction motor receives a 6-phase AC signal from the Inverter which recieves it from the VECU which receives it from the sensors and that the motor the amount of torque to deliver. My questions like 1) Why a 6-Phase AC signal? 2) How does the motor interpret the signal? 3) Why do we implement these steps to solve a problem? And others remain unanswered. It's not because I don't try and reach out but because A. The plant has largely unskilled labour who are only concerned with assembly and cannot provide me with deeper knowledge. The supervisors also provide me only with the surface level as I mentioned above for the Traction Motor. B. It seems like my Project Guide is avoiding my questions. And when I do get answers they are similar to what others on the shopfloor give me. I'm doubting myself that whether I'm not asking the right questions and communicating properly.
Also navigating the shopfloor is so hard everyone keeps referring me to different people to ask particular information it really frustrates me.
