I have 44K in student loans. There’s a total of 6 accounts. My 2 smallest accounts are for a little over 2K, 4 are for 4-5K, and the largest account for 17K.
My plan is to save up and pay off the smallest one and go from there; similar to the snowball method with credit cards. Since interest accrues on all accounts every month no matter how much more you pay, it makes sense to close out the smaller ones when I can as I make regular payments.
The goal is to buy a home next year as an investment property to rent out.

My best friend (30, F) has been seeing this walking red flag of a human being (M, 30?) for going on 5 years now. We have had several drunken meltdowns about this person and she is suffering. I hate to see her like this and I'm at a complete loss for what to do or how best to support her.

I should note: my best friend, lets call her Sookie, had recently come back from New Zealand after living there for a number of years and leaving a heartache behind there. THis was the first time she'd ever tried dating in a super serious way and tried the apps to get her going. The bf, lets call him Jim, was the first person she forged a really strong connection with and they did start seeing each other. I WISH I'd asked her to save some pictures on his Bumble profile, for future relevance, but i didn't ...
Jim lives an hour and a half away from Sookie and when they met, it seemed to be always on his availability and he would never stay the night (and to this day has only stayed over with her twice). Once, he went on an overnight stay with her to London, which took a lot of encouraging and delicate negotiation from Sookie's part, and he was apparently so miserable on day two from "being away from his family" that they had to get an early train home. The second time happened relatively recently and he stayed over at her new house. Jim had to bail on Sookie on New Years Eve 2019 for a planned little get-together Sookie had arranged, and it's only then (5 months into their relationship) that she discovered he had a son. SOmething came up with the son, lets call him Jack, and that meant he couldn't meet her for NYE. At the time Jack was 6.
Jim and Jack's mum didn't apparently end well. He has alluded to some abuse going on from the Mum to Jack and also has insinuated that she is mentally ill and unstable. Jack lives with Jim and he "can't remember the last time Jack's mum saw him. I don't deal with that stuff". As the child of divorced parents, I know that in the UK its very difficult for the Dad to get complete parental responsibility and for Mum to have almost no contact seems to me to be a bit strange. Also, his comment of "I don't deal with that stuff" is a bit odd. I mean.... you don't deal with the dates/times of when your son, who lives with you, sees his mother? Seems very strange.
Sookie also found out, two years into the relationship, that Jim and Jack's mother aren't actually divorced and are still, in fact, legally married. He claims he can't "afford" to start divorce proceedings. However, Jim claims he has a fairly well-paid job.
The times bewteen when Sookie and Jim can meet seem to get longer and longer, and she has to resort to meeting in car parks for a few hours or sometimes going months without seeing him. They do message regularly and call often, but Sookie tells me she can count the number of times they have Face-Timed on one hand. COVID in the middle of the relationship did not help, and after London, Sookie thought they might be turning a corner with the "staying over" issue. But alas, no.
One of the hugest red-flags, in my opinion, is SOOKIE DOES NOT KNOW WHERE THIS MAN LIVES. He refuses to tell her his address as he says "it makes him feel unsafe". He apparently lives with his parents as after the separation from Jack's mum, he needed a place to stay, and I thought maybe it was an embarrassment issue or a politeness thing of not wanting to give out his parent's address. But after five years of seeing someone, surely you've ascertained whether there a nutcase or not... Jim also seems to taunt her with this information, sending her pictures of his front door and his Tiktok account (which I found when trying to go Detective on this bloke) clearly shows the interior and gardens of this house to the whole world. I have reccomended driving to his town and forcing a confrontation with him over this issue, but Sookie thinks that this would cause him to shut down.
In desperation, Sookie once asked Jack "where do you live?" and he responded "in my house!" Sookie then asked him "where do you sleep?" and Jack said "in my bed!". When Sookie asked him "where does Daddy sleep?", Jack said "In mummy and daddy's bed." THIS IS IMPORTANT, REMEMBeR THIS FOR LATER.
His mental health seems very poor. Sookie tells me he is constantly complaining of high-stress from his job, his son, his living conditions and he tends to spiral into negative thoughts. When he is in a 'bad place' then he can be very hard to talk to. Jack is not great in school and often has explosive moments that Jim finds difficult to deal with. Sookie thinks she is helping Jim with this stress by encouraging him to take time off work and look after himself. She is deeply worried that, if she were to leave him, he would spiral out of control and have a massive breakdown.
On social media, this man is a classic Catfish. His FB has no cover photo, half a cropped and low-res picture, one friend (who is Sookie) and no followers. I have sent a request to him (as I met him when we went to London) but he did not accept. Instagram is a similar issue: no posts (all aparently 'archived'), no picture and a few more followers which all seem to be other girls. Sookie doesn't know the names of any of his friends and all of his family also seem to be MIA on social media too. I have tried searching for the name Sookie has given me on LinkedIn, I tried googling his phone number, and I even looked in the damned yellow pages for him or the suppposed names of his family. All have turned up blank. I'm beginning to doubt if the name he's given her is genuine at all.
They did break up for 7 months or so, but they remained talking when Sookie went back on the apps. I don't envy her, as the men she met during this time were utter sleaze-balls, time-wasters and dickheads. I secretly hoped she'd meet someone amazing and then she'd see just how awful Jim had been. But after the bad run of Britain's finest fuckers, she got back together with him about 2 months ago. Sookie did tell me that she had demands in place for if and when she got back together with Jim, telling her where he lived for one, but it seems that she didn't enforce this when they rekindled the relationship.
In my opinion, I think this guy is still living with Jack's mother and my friend Sookie is 'the other woman'. Or he is hiding a massive secret from her in some way. The comment from Jack about "mummy and daddy's bed" might be a leftover memory of when they were together, or it was a child being honest! And since Sookie hasn't seen Jack for over two years now, I wonder if it's because Jim couldn't pass off Jack giving the game away as 'children saying silly things'.
Sookie is miserable. She hoped that this time around things would be different, but he's back to minimal visits and bailing on her at the last minute. He puts in little to no effort and is continuing to be a massive dissappointment. She is lonely most nights with only Jim's messages to keep her company. In my opinion, it isn't a relationship. He comes round when he can get away from whatever's going on at his house, fucks her, and leaves. Jim has asked her to 'wait for him' until he can get his shit together, and he seems to be of the opinion that in a year and a half he, Jack and Sookie will all be living with her in her new house as a happy family! Ambitious, given the fact that the last time they saw each other was in April...
I really don't know what to do for Sookie or how best to help her. I am being honest with her, but I clearly see that she adores the guy and what woman out there hasn't overlooked a red flag for someone they love? But Jim doesn't just have one red flag, he is a living, walking one!

Hi all! So as in the title, you’ll see this post is about my aggressive and hostile neighbor. He is a raging alcoholic and he’s known to be hostile towards random passerby’s for NO reason. He will threaten people just for walking past his house. He is also known to abuse his dogs verbally and physically. His dogs have become aggressive because of such. One has bit my 2 year old through the chain link fence separating our properties. One bit some kid(presumably ages 12-14), who then hopped out short fence and rang our doorbell and told us what happened and that the dog wouldn’t let him go home and was chasing him. We let him stay in our yard for safety for about a whole half hour and then we called the cops. We told them never mind because luckily, right before dispatching an officer, our neighbor came out and the dog ran away from him. Although The bite was not a serious injury, these dogs are known to be aggressive and even after this, he did not attempt to catch his dog who hopped his fence to the outside and attacked a child. Kid went home after. Dogs have got into plenty fights with each other, I believe one has even killed another in the past because of such. Today, he tried fighting my husband and taunting him with how he’d “ f*** him up” and that his van was a “ piece of sh” my husband went inside instead. About two hours later, me, my husband, and 2 year old went out to said van. My 2 year Old pretended to drive and we played peekaboo while his dad worked on the van. We heard a LOUD noise. We weren’t sure what it was at first, so we all went out to see what it was with his bright working light. We look around and see our neighbor, standing on his backyard shed roof. We were in our backyard. We realized what it is soon after, a large rock he aimed at the van window we were in, but missed, hitting our fence and bouncing off to the front hood. My husband asked him what the f* he was doing, telling him our two year old was with us and asking why he was being so aggressive. We proceeded to start heading inside, especially since my toddler was with us and then he threw another rock, aiming at my husband, but almost hit my 2 year old instead. Luckily it did not. We told him we were calling the cops and rushed inside and did so. After an hour and a half of them not showing up, he started scraping the side of our house with a shovel, then used the handle end of it to hit my sons bedroom window, presumably trying to damage it. We had this one camera because my husband heard it and started filming it. We called the dispatch for the police again and asked what was taking so long and told them what was happening and they said the police would be there as soon as they were available because they were “ handling an emergency. They show up half an hour later ( 2 hours after the initial call) and we tell them what happened, first thing they ask is if we know if he’s mentally Ill, we tell them he’s an alcoholic that about all we know… then they see a bright light coming from the top of my neighbors shed which, lo and behold is my neighbor with a hammer in hand who immediately starts cussing them out. They ask him to put the hammer down and he keeps saying he’s on his own property. Fast forward to basically just a bunch of exactly what was stated of neighbor going in and out of his house and cussing them out, they pull out a non lethal weapon talking to him since he was belligerent to scare him but don’t end up using it and they get him to go inside. They tell us that it’s not worth the risk of chasing him in his house to “ get him” because it risks their officers safety and they understanding the “ being upset” but all they have on him is a misdemeanor on him for property damage of the fence and van. I repeated to them many times I did not call them because my feelings were hurt or the property damage, I called them in concern for my toddlers safety and they just kept telling us the same thing. One of the officers even said they were just out at his house yesterday for him chasing someone with a stick and threatening them, today as well. At the end of the day, they just said they’d submit a report for property damage and nothing happened and now I am concerned for my sons safety and unsure what to do since he is a danger to my family. We cannot move for financial reasons and now I feel like nothing can be done since the literal police won’t even do anything. Is there anything legally I can do if something like this happens again( which it likely will) I live in CA in the United States if that makes a difference.

Hi everyone, New vizsla home for a week, 9 weeks old now. We’ve gone down the crate route and I’m astonished we ever considered not. Problem is that often she has to fall asleep on my lap and then be placed into her crate. Then at night when she wakes needing comfort, it can take over an hour to get her in again. She protests loudly if she doesn’t get attention.
My questions are: 1. How do I encourage her to go to her crate on her own? I’m equivocal to giving her a 50/50 hot water bottle, but my partner is dead against it. I do think it’s often a warmth thing. 2. Once she’s in her crate again after a night waking, should I close her in it even if she protests? I don’t want her fearing the crate

I (M34) and my wife (F34) are likely separating aft 7 years of marriage. We have been experiencing problems for a while but things have gotten beyond repair over the last few months. We attended relationship counselling last night but it seems to be too little too late. There has been no infidelity (as far as I am aware but I have no reason to believe otherwise) but some broken trust over mental health and we are both experiencing issues with anxiety and depression. There is no animosity, it's just a desperately sad situation where it has become increasingly apparent there is no solution to together.
The problem is we will likely have to spend at least 1 (likely 2 months) living together. We are currently living on the other side of the world (literally) from most of our family (my brother is the only local family we have and he lives in a different city 6/7hours away). Her desire is to move home and I do not intend to stand in her way.
We have a 2 bed flat that we rent and I have set up an air mattress in the spare room. Due to differences in salary (again, not an issue) I have covered rent and bills for most of the last 2 years, except the last month as I have been out of work. I am now back in work and she is looking to quit. I also do all the grocery shopping and cooking. We have 1 car which she uses for work whilst I walk to work in the city.
It is likely she will move back home in about 2 months whilst I will start a new 6 month contract next week and begin to work things out from there. I will be able to just about cover rent and bills etc. so that is no worry but I am looking for advice on managing the living situation in the intervening period. I am not especially keen on maintaining the current situation where I make dinner and pay for all the food, especially if I am taking the less desirable sleeping situation.
I love this woman but we are no longer in love and she does not love herself nearly as much as she should so I want to minimise hurt as much as possible. If you've been through a separation where you were cohabiting how did you deal with it? What worked and what didn't?

I have a 3 year old son and 10 month twin girls. My aunt, in her 60’s, never married and no kids, who still lives at home with her mum.. asked me why I’m tired. Wednesdays my son does half day at school, my aunt lives near so I visit her and my nana for 3 hours with my twins for some dinner before I pick my son up again. Once when the girls were newborn I was complaining about how tired I am and I just need a break. She just looks me dead in the face and asks ‘what do you have to be so tired about’ I was speechless, and she wasn’t joking either. It just blows my mind that no one ever considers how hard this is. Another time my MIL had all 3 kids while I went to my nail appointment (I never really treat myself but I wanted to get my nails done before my holiday) and my aunt says it wasn’t fair leaving one person to look after 3 children on her own, baring in mind I do that ALL DAY EVERYDAY while my partner works 12 hour shifts! I did have one sweet moment yesterday on the bus home, girls wouldn’t nap in the pram while overly tired, trying to fumble in my bag under the pram for their milk while they screamed and my toddler trying to show me his new toy. I was super stressed but a old man walking off the bus leant down to my seat and told me I was a fantastic mum and doing a great job, it’s just what I needed to hear ❤️ sorry for the rant I just wished people realised how hard it is and how much of a struggle we go through trying to be the best parents to our children

I love videogames (especially of vr variants), dnd, anime, and other lovely little things we might have in common. And while i can be social, i typically keep to my own room and my computer to distract me from life.

I know there are a lots of posts about these but please bear with me. I have a decent desktop that I use most of the time when I am home and also a windows laptop. The windows laptop is barely hanging by, charge lasts an hour, hangs and lags most of the time. But its kinda usable if its plugged in but not good for outside when I am in college. (Studying CS in last year)
I am also feeling that ipad could help me write notes in classes as many of my classmates are using them.
So I am stuck on what to buy because If I buy an ipad and my laptop again (yes it died once) dies on me I won't have enough to get a macbook. But ipad could improve my productivity in my class.

Last time I left my ex I had a horrible experience we shared an apartment and it was a domestic violence situation and I lost so many precious things in the process of leaving as it was an hour commute to the apartment back to my parents.
