2023.06.06 11:36 amandaguilty Family drama – The murder of Sarah Scazzi (Avetrana, Italy) – 1/2

>>> Second part of the post
Avetrana is a small rural town – in beautiful Apulia, overlooking the gulf of Taranto – that comes alive especially during the summer season due to the influx of tourists looking for low-priced accommodation compared to the trendier resorts in the region. In the early 1980s, Avetrana was the site of demonstrations by the anti-nuclear movement in opposition to the desire of the national government to plant a nuclear power plant in the territory, though nowadays if you ask an Italian what is the first thing that comes to their mind when you say “Avetrana”, sadly they will almost certainly think of Sarah Scazzi.
Sarah’s case also arguably represents one of the latest examples of the “dark tourism” that has led hundreds of people to travel to the places where the most heinous crimes in recent Italian history – from the murder of Samuele Lorenzi to that of Meredith Kercher and Chiara Poggi – were committed. In the initial months following Sarah’s disappearance, the media has shone a spotlight on the small town from which Sarah disappeared and on its sometimes strange inhabitants. TV stations “dramatized” the whole affair and turned it almost into a soap opera for their loyal viewers. The lowest point in this story was finally reached when, on October 6, 2010, a reporter broke the news of Sarah’s body’s discovery to her mother on live television. This is how journalist Stefano Nazzi describes what happened in Avetrana in the days following Sarah’s disappearance:
From the end of August 2010 and for many months it became one of the most famous places in Italy. A place where an ugly crime had happened turned into a TV set where all rules were skipped, where reporters competed to grab exclusive interviews with those who perhaps had nothing to say.
It should be noted that – despite the fact that the criminal cases mentioned here have occupied the front pages of newspapers and news programs for a long time – it has become much more difficult in recent years for similar events to be treated so obsessively and morbidly by the mass media. Of course, TV programs that unabashedly eviscerate every aspect of a said murder still exist, but traditional news channels now seem to adhere to more careful guidelines on how to treat crime cases.

The disappearance

On the afternoon of August 26, 2010, at the Carabinieri Station Headquarters in Avetrana, 15-year-old Sarah Scazzi was reported missing, having left home – as her mother Concetta Serrano Spagnolo declared – in the early afternoon to go to the house of her cousin Sabrina Misseri, with whom she was supposed to take a trip to the beach. Sarah had on a pink T-shirt, pink shorts, and flip-flops, carried a black fabric backpack with writing on it, as well as the inseparable cell phone, recently received as a gift from her older brother and which she always held in her hand.
Who was the 15-year-old and what can be said more precisely about the hours surrounding her disappearance? Sarah reportedly had a strong character, was a bit lazy, liked Avril Lavigne and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She suffered from being away from her father and especially her brother, to whom she was very close (the two men were working in Milan at the time of the incident). She probably resented her mother’s strictness and saw her cousin Sabrina’s family as a safe haven, to the point of asking to be “adopted” by her aunt Cosima Serrano and her uncle Michele Misseri (at least this is what Cosima and Sabrina will say later).
Concerning what happened in the hours around Sarah’s disappearance, her mother Concetta reported that Sarah had left the house around 9 am; she had returned briefly during the course of the morning to get some money needed to buy some cream on behalf of her cousin Sabrina, and then she had gone home to go, almost immediately, in the company of her father to do the groceries around 12:30 pm; the two had returned home shortly before 1 pm. What happened next is a point of contention, but the most likely conclusion is that Sarah left her house to go to the Misseris between 1:55 pm and 2:00 pm – as indicated by Sarah’s housekeeper Maria Ecaterina Pantir – lying to her mother by saying that she had received Sabrina’s message telling her to go to her house.
Then, at 2:23 pm, Sabrina received a text message from her friend Mariangela Spagnoletti (“[give me] the time to put on the costume and I’m coming”) and immediately afterward notified her cousin (2:25:08 text message from Sabrina to Sarah “put on the costume fast and come”). Sarah, who had no cell phone credit, answered with a ring at 2:28:46 – this is her last alleged communication.
In an email sent to the editor of a local magazine in late August and made public in early September, psychic Rosemary Laboragine wrote:
I see a house but also a kind of garage. I don’t know, unfortunately I have a feeling of death. I feel her buried in the nearby countryside. I see wood and water.

The investigation

The search for Sarah begins a few days late by virtue of the fact that her disappearance was initially thought to be a voluntary departure. Sabrina suggests investigating Sarah’s father’s hometown and his unsavory acquaintances there. A man from Lecce who had sent a message to Sabrina pretending to be Sarah is heard by the Carabinieri. It also turns out that the 15-year-old had three Facebook profiles and had recently communicated with a married man, but this trail leads nowhere. On September 7, 2010, Carabinieri from the Taranto Investigative Unit handed prosecutors a report in which they requested (and obtained) an urgent wiretap of Claudio’s cell phone, since it was “suspicious that the young man did not feel the need to return to Apulia to inquire directly about his sister’s fate”.
An initial breakthrough in the investigation came with the discovery of the victim’s cell phone by Michele Misseri on September 29, 2010, the day after he was interrogated by the investigators in this case. Misseri recounted that he had gone, with the intent of retrieving a lost screwdriver, to a plot of land where, the previous day, he had done some cleanup work with a friend. There, in a burned pile of olive leaves, he had found the cell phone.
On October 4, 2010, at 4:20 pm, Michele Misseri was served an invitation to appear in the afternoon of October 6 at the Taranto Carabinieri Provincial Command. On the same evening, at 9:58 pm, a phone call between Sabrina Misseri and her ex-boyfriend Andrea Merico was intercepted, in which Sabrina was concerned about the fingerprints left by her father and herself on Sarah’s phone, admitting that she had touched the device on the very day of Sarah’s disappearance.
On October 5, a soliloquy of Michele Misseri in his car was recorded at 5:59 am. Misseri closed the door but did not start the engine and, after standing still and in silence for about a minute, spoke to himself, uttering the following words: “I feel sorry for my family... if they go... I will find them out [sic]”.
On October 6, Michele, his wife Cosima and their daughter Valentina went together to Taranto for their interrogations. At 7:59 am, a conversation was recorded in their car: Cosima advised her husband not to be specific about the times when, on the morning the cell phone was found, he had left home. At 15:46 am, Giuseppe Serrano, colleague and brother-in-law of Michele, tells the investigators that, on August 26, the latter arrived at work “way behind schedule”, 45 minutes later than when he was supposed to be there. Finally, in the evening, after 9 hours of interrogation,
As the search for the little girl continued unabated, Michele Antonio Misseri confessed to having killed his niece, strangling her, and to having suppressed her corpse; he, reserving the right to clarify at a later date the reasons and modalities of that insane act, led investigators to a well located in contrada Mosca in the countryside of Avetrana and allowed the discovery, following laborious digging operations that lasted all night, of Scazzi’s lifeless body and some of her personal belongings. Misseri’s confession was recorded in the presence of his defense counsel.
Misseri confessed that, the day Sarah disappeared, he was working in the garage to fix the tractor that wouldn’t start. At 2:25 pm, Sarah had suddenly arrived and, coming down to the garage, had told him “Uncle...” without adding anything else. The moment the little girl had then turned again to leave, Misseri had taken a piece of rope and twisted it around her neck twice, tightening about five to six minutes, even after Sarah had fallen to the ground. Misseri claimed that he had been seized by an “inexplicable rapture”, by a burst of nerves caused by the tractor not starting, but that it was not at all his intention to rape his niece, toward whom he had no sexual attraction.
The following day, during the hearing for the confirmation of the provisional arrest, Misseri changed drastically his account. To the judge’s and prosecutor’s questions about the possible sexual nature of the cause of his attack, he answered enigmatically: “It may be as well”. He confided that he had sexually assaulted Sarah on August 26, that she had reacted and he had had to kill her.
On October 15, 2010, Misseri was heard again and that consisted of a turning point in the case. In the morning interrogation, he confirmed the self-accusatory version already set forth in the two previous ones, but enriched it with details: he claimed that Sabrina had looked out onto the garage ramp immediately after her cousin’s killing, while Sarah’s body lay covered by a piece of cardboard; to the prosecutor’s objection that, in that case, Sabrina could not have failed to notice at the very least Sarah’s beach slippers, which had been left out of that hastily organized cover, Misseri further modified his account, asserting that Sabrina had arrived at the garage entrance to warn her father that she was going to the beach, and she had noticed Sarah’s body covered by the cardboard. Sabrina had exclaimed: “Daddy, what have you done?” and had burst into tears.
The “glaring inconsistencies” inherent in this version led prosecutors to suspend the interrogation at 11:35 am. Three hours later, at 2:26 pm, a new interrogation began:
Misseri claimed that Sabrina had forcibly dragged Sarah into the garage, where he was already standing, in order to verify, in a three-way confrontation, whether it was true that he had molested Sarah, as she had reported to her cousin. Upon Scazzi’s confirmation, Sabrina Misseri had pinned her down, encircling her around the waist with her arms and demanding that she tell the truth in front of her father; the latter, at that point, becoming impatient, had strangled his niece with a rope he was holding, twisting it around her neck, while his daughter held her cousin down.

Sabrina’s detention and Michele’s accusatory statements against her

On October 18, 2010, Sabrina Misseri was questioned by the preliminary hearing judge, denying any involvement in the killing of her cousin. Four days later, a conversation that took place in prison between Michele Misseri and his daughter Valentina was intercepted and filmed. After an initial moment of emotion upon seeing his daughter again, who immediately reminded him of Sabrina’s status, detained because of his accusatory statements (“Daddy, but look I love you anyway, you know? Sabrina loves you too, of course she can’t come now, she knows you’re here, right?”), Michele, shaking his hands, told her in dialect: “The fact... Which Sabrina is hiding… [I wish] she would talk about it”.
On November 3, criminologist Roberta Bruzzone was appointed as a consultant to Michele through his defense lawyer Daniele Galoppa. Two days later, in jail, Misseri had a conversation with Galoppa and Bruzzone; he began to cry and, quite unexpectedly – after he had until then described the incident by reverting to the initial exclusively self-accusatory version – declared that he was not the one who killed Sarah, but his daughter Sabrina. For that reason, with the consent of Misseri himself, a request was made by his defense attorney for investigators to come in for questioning.
At 3:32 pm, before prosecutors, Misseri articulated a version in which he declared himself to be completely uninvolved in the murderous action, which he attributed to Sabrina. Misseri declared that after he had finished eating, at about 1 pm, he had been called by his daughter who had told him, “Daddy, come to the garage ‘cause something happened”. He had then gone there and found Sarah on the floor, with her arms towards the door and with a rope (a meter long, not too tight and with many knots) twisted around her neck; Sabrina had said that her cousin had fallen while they were playing. “[Sabrina] says they were playing in the garage… she says she slipped and fell [...] however, in my opinion, to show that it was suicide she put the rope around her neck…”
Prosecutors deemed this story illogical because of the weapon used, the dynamics of the murder, and the justification given by Sabrina, so they stopped the questioning at 4:10 pm, at the request of the defense counsel, and resumed at 5:04 pm (after Misseri had conferred with attorney Galoppa and consultant Bruzzone). At this point,
Misseri mutated his account by reporting that the murder weapon was a “belt”, not a rope, and claimed that he had been awakened, while he was asleep in the deck chair, by his daughter Sabrina who, in a state of agitation, had said to him: “Dad, come here for a moment ‘cause something has happened”; following his daughter, he had run into the garage and had seen Sarah lying on the floor upright on the right side of the slide, with her head down facing the entrance; he had then exclaimed “But what is it that you have done?” and his daughter had told him “Yeah, anyway she was bothering me as well”. Misseri later specified that to the question “What happened?”, his daughter had said “I was playing with Sarah… she slipped, she fell”, and to his further question “And the belt around her neck, why does she have it?”, Sabrina had replied, “She was bothering me anyway”.
November 19, 2010 was the day of the special evidence pre-trial hearing (whose function is to “anticipate the acquisition and formation of evidence during the preliminary investigation”). These are the salient points:

The relationship between Sarah and Sabrina

The Court that sentenced Sabrina started from a “fixed point” in its reconstruction of the events that led to Sarah’s death:
When Sabrina Misseri was heard by the Carabinieri of Avetrana [...] Sarah’s body had not been found and, therefore, it was still legitimate to hope for a voluntary departure that precisely a quarrel, a contrast, an argument with her cousin could have explained and justified. Yet Sabrina Misseri, while appearing active and proactive in the search for her missing cousin through both public initiatives and collaboration with the Carabinieri, thought it counterproductive to reveal an apparently insignificant detail – a girl-on-girl argument – which, however, could have uncovered a ‘Pandora’s box’, shedding light on what later turned out to be the motive for the murderous action.
It’s necessary to better introduce the individuals who are involved in this story. It’s not contested by the defense that in the summer of 2010 the two girls – since Sarah’s school was closed and she had a relationship of close kinship and living proximity with her cousin – attended each other assiduously; in particular, Sarah went almost daily at the cousin’s house. The two girls were also part of the same group of friends, Sabrina having introduced the young Sarah to the others in December 2009. The group included Ivano Russo, Alessio Pisello, Mariangela Spagnoletti and, in the summer period, Angela Cimino and Claudio Scazzi, as well as Giovanni Copertino and Antonio Forte. Together the aforementioned frequented the same clubs, exchanged messages and phone calls, went to the beach moving in the same cars. Sarah was only allowed to go out in the evenings with her older cousin on whom, therefore, she depended for all opportunities for recreation.
According to the Court, Sarah’s secret diary is really important to understand what happened because it testifies to the onset of a growing enthusiasm for a new friendship and the emergence of a feeling that troubles and confuses the teenager: that for Ivano, that boy so much older than she is and whom Sarah knows well how much her cousin Sabrina also likes. Some significant entries are the following:
Although Sabrina refused to describe her relationship with Ivano in terms of a romantic one, saying she was only physically attracted to him, her friends contradicted her in their testimonies (Claudio Scazzi goes so far as to speak of a “fixation”). Moreover, one inescapable objective fact is the text messages with which Sabrina “bombarded” her friends to find out where Ivano was, whether he was at one club rather than another, whether he had gone out and who she took home first and who last, even going so far as to check on the boy through actual stakeouts and sending messages from unknown phones. It is unclear why Sabrina would want to “project” onto her friend Mariangela her obsession with Ivano (as she did in the November 20, 2012 hearing) when all testimony converged in another direction. According to the Court,
Sabrina was dominated by her anxiety to establish a stable and exclusive romantic and sexual relationship with Russo, rather than a relationship of mere friendship, so that her conduct became even more insistent where Ivano proved detached and annoyed by her intrusiveness.
Clearly tracing the development of the story between the two are the 4500 messages exchanged over the months by Sabrina and Ivano. For the Court, “[t]he incursion into the sexual sphere of the two isn’t dictated by morbid curiosity, nor is it intended to land on unacceptable moralistic evaluations of their behavior, but it serves to fully understand how the evolution of that relationship and the inevitable estrangement from the young man, due to the differing expectations of the two, generated in Sabrina a very strong sense of frustration”. This frustration was then exacerbated by the fact that although Sarah played (unintentionally) a role in the breakup between Sabrina and Ivano, she did not stop hanging out with him, and this must have been considered a real betrayal on Sabrina’s part. These are some significant messages sent by Sabrina testifying to her interest/obsession:
On the other hand, Ivano didn’t seem to reciprocate. He wrote, “Sabri I don’t want you to talk to me like that...the other day that thing shouldn’t have happened, I knew it would end like that.” And again, “But why did you fall in love with me? If you want sex that’s fine, but I don’t fall in love:)”. Hence the profound frustration of Sabrina who, after vainly trying to establish a “real” relationship, had to give up in the face of the indifference of the young man, who in a clear manner, finally told her that he did not conceive, between them, anything other than a loveless sex relationship.
Claudio testified that he tried to talk with Sabrina about her relationship with Ivano, asking her why she continued to hang out with him even if he wasn’t really that interested:
Sabrina made it clear to me that she would rather maybe even be teased, let’s say, even teased in a sense, by Ivano, than lose him altogether.
Concetta was also aware of the relationship between the two, having overheard a telephone conversation between Sarah and Sabrina in which the former said, “If I were in your place, I would kick him. Why do you stand behind him, why do you let him treat you this way?”

The August 25 argument at the “102” brewery

Sabrina was extremely upset and annoyed by the fact that, in her view, Sarah was diverting Ivano’s attention from her – this is a “fact peacefully acquired at the trial”, according to the Court, just as it’s established that this was the reason for the argument that took place on the evening of August 25, 2010. Here is what Stefania De Luca, an older friend of Sabrina’s, testifies:
I was sitting at a table near the front door of the club. After a while, I remember, Mariangela Spagnoletti, Sabrina Misseri and Sarah Scazzi came in. They entered the club, we greeted each other, and immediately Sabrina said, “This time it’s really over”, referring to the relationship she had with Ivano. In particular, already for some time Sabrina had told me several times about her interest in Ivano, her infatuation with him. She herself told me on several occasions that Ivano’s behaviors gave her hope. Evidently during the day of August 25 something had happened for which she had decided to sever this situation with Ivano. After this initial approach, Sabrina and Mariangela entered the bar to get a drink while Sarah stayed close to me. I then noticed that Sarah was very upset and her eyes were glazed over, so much so that I asked her what had happened. Sarah did not answer, shrugging her shoulders and bowing her head.
De Luca confirmed that Sabrina told her she had had a fight with Ivano, adding ironically that he was now only talking to Sarah. “That one sells herself, sells herself for two cuddles, even her mother says so”, Sabrina allegedly repeated twice, referring to Sarah. At that moment Sarah literally went pale and bowed her head almost crying.
Mariangela Spagnoletti – the girl with whom Sarah and Sabrina were supposed to go to the beach – essentially corroborated this version in court:
PROSECUTOR BUCCOLIERO – Here, but these words you said earlier, about Sarah’s and Ivano’s relationship, Sabrina also said them in the car while talking to you? SPAGNOLETTI – Yes. That he was cuddling Sara more than her. […] PROSECUTOR BUCCOLIERO – Listen, was Sabrina jealous of Sarah with regard to Ivano? SPAGNOLETTI – I don’t know if she was jealous, however, with some phrases she made it clear that she was.
Spagnoletti’s trustworthiness was questioned by Sabrina’s defense, which noted how the girl was attracted to Ivano and therefore would turn out to be emotionally involved in the affair; needless to say that De Luca’s testimony still stands and it’s difficult to understand why Spagnoletti would make such serious accusations… just because. The Court also noted that the reasoning of the defense doesn’t make much sense “in light of the little interest Sabrina had managed to arouse in [Ivano]” and since Spagnoletti mentioned the August 25 altercation only when the prosecutor talked about it.

Other episodes corroborating the motive: obsession & desire

Another significant episode that supports the idea of a catastrophic “rupture” between the girls is narrated by Angela Cimino, another friend of the group:
One evening in August, certainly after the 15th, we were in Torre Colimena with Sabrina, Ivano, Claudio and Sarah. With the same, aboard Ivano’s car we returned to Avetrana. I remember that Ivano left Sabrina at home first, only because it was on the way, and, while Ivano dropped Claudio and Sarah, the latter received a message from Sabrina. Sarah read it aloud, “Let me know who [Ivano] drop off home first.” None of those present commented on the message, and I made some reflections. The reading [of the message] took place just before Sarah and Claudio got out of the car as having arrived at their home, [so] Ivano and I, left alone in the car commented on what had happened. I told him that I felt it was time for him to clarify with Sabrina the nature of their relationship beyond a simple friendship. Ivano told me that he would talk to her.
The investigators therefore discovered that Sarah had been indirectly responsible for Ivano deciding to end his “friendship with benefits” with Sabrina, so to speak – but even if it were not for this fact, it would still have happened, as one can see considering the next episode corroborating the motive hypothesized by the Court.
Some days before August 4, 2010, one evening, Sabrina and Ivano drove away from Avetrana, secluded themselves and began to have sex; however, they didn’t complete the intercourse, because Ivano said he didn’t want to ruin the friendship. Sabrina later confided about what happened to Mariangela; Sarah was listening. Without much time passing, the entire group learned of the “failed intercourse” between Sabrina and Ivano. The former stopped going outside and seeing her friends for a while. On August 16, 2010, starting from midnight and going on for the whole day, the two also exchanged some glacial messages:
On August 21 there was a face-to-face clarification, arranged by Ivano and not Sabrina, which – it is really hard to understand why, although the Court had its hypotheses – Sarah also attended. Ivano recalled in court:
I told Sabrina what Claudio had reported to me and, after telling her that I was very annoyed, I asked her if she had been the one to report the episode. Sabrina told me that it had not been her and was also annoyed. Confirming that she had not told anyone, she reported to me that Claudio had certainly tried to find out something without having any information, I took the opportunity to reiterate to her that I did not intend to establish a relationship that was anything other than friendship, and I took the opportunity to apologize to her if my behavior had engendered any expectations in her.
According to the Court that sentenced Sabrina, “after making inquiries in the circle of friends, Misseri could only trace the origin of the disclosure of the episode that will lead to the termination of relations with Ivano back to her cousin Sarah”.
Sabrina’s defense attempted to downplay the extent of such feelings by pointing out that the relationship between the two young women was the same: the two girls loved each other “like sisters” and were inseparable, none of those who hung out with them had ever perceived a feeling of jealousy on the part of Sabrina toward Sarah, and, therefore, there was no rivalry or jealousy between the two cousins, so much so that after their conversation with Ivano on August 21, the two girls had continued their evening together, going to the Spizzico club to play karaoke.
Contradicting these theories there is Liala Nigro’s testimony; she was a friend of Sabrina and she testified that, about mid-August, Sabrina arrived angrily at the pub accusing her of telling Ivano about the incident. Some days later, but certainly before August 21, Sabrina apologized to her, telling her that she had identified the person responsible in Claudio. This whole episode corroborates the idea that Sabrina was very angry at whoever had propagated the story of the failed intercourse. Also the fact that Sarah participated in the August 21 face-to-face confrontation can be seen as compatible with the theory that Sabrina had finally identified the “real culprit”, namely Sarah, and had wanted her to be present because she was as involved as the other two.
The relationship between Sabrina and Ivano had therefore broken down irremediably. The former wrote the latter a burst of angry messages:
The Court notes that it is therefore a fact that the relationship between the two cousins broke down after the August 21 confrontation. Testifying to this, again, there is Sarah going to San Pancrazio Salentino (a nearby town where another cousin of hers lived) from August 23 to 25: “Sarah, no longer having a chance to go out in Avetrana, her brother Claudio having departed, therefore took the first opportunity that came her way to get away from the village”. In these two days, Sarah contacted nevertheless many times Sabrina through calls or rings, but the latter never responded. In court she explained her actions saying that she was “displeased”, i.e. she was missing Sarah (it doesn’t make much sense really).

2023.06.06 10:05 Competitive_Text1914 Hells Kitchen 6th Place Season: Episode 10

Chef Gordon Ramsay was very excited to welcome back his final 10 Chefs to Hells Kitchen and said that it was time for all the Chefs to no longer shine as individuals but to shine as leaders. However, he said that today would not be about them but about their guests as tonight they would be cooking for a wake for a family, and Van said this would be a stressful challenge and service as it’s celebrating the dead and Kanae said she didn’t want to upset a grieving family. Ramsay said that the teams were doing a cold appetizer, a hot appetiser, a fish entree, a chicken entree and a steak entree, and Tara said this needed to be a big challenge for her having asked to rejoin the red team and Sabrina said she needed to start shining as an individual to prove these bitches wrong and that she belonged here. First up was Van and Kanae in the battle of the cold appetisers and Van’s scallop crudo beat out Kanae’s ceviche but Ed tied up for the blue team, beating Santos with his pasta dish. Elizabeth’s monkfish and Antonio’s salmon were both praised and scored a point and the red team took the lead with Tara’s chicken beating Giovannis, and Tara said no matter which team she was on she scored points. All the pressure was on Sabrina on the red meat entree but Sabrina overcooked her fillet and Nikki’s fillet was perfect to give the red team the win 4:2! Nikki said she was psyched to win the challenge for the team and Sabrina said she was sick of losing to Nikki in challenges.
Chef Ramsay announced that the menus would be different tonight, including a pasta ragu entree and a fish and chips entree, a pizza appetiser as well as the challenge winning dishes being on the menu tonight. Ed said the blue team had to make up for the bad challenge to have a great service and Giovanni on appetisers got the blue team off to a strong start with his risottos and pastas. Antonio was the floater tonight, supporting on appetisers and the meat station but despite his confidence, Antonio managed to burn 2 pizzas and annoyed Ramsay when he asked for time on a redo. Sabrina had started well with her seared tuna on the fish station and said it was her service to prove herself but she brought up 8 scallops instead of 9 for 3 orders with Ramsay asking Sabrina if she knew how to count. Sabrina then served badly seared scallops to push the kitchen back further and Ed said Sabrina hanging on by a thread at this point before Sabrina bounced back and the blue team finished appetizers. Ed on garnish tried pushing the blue team on entrees but Kanae on meat served an overcooked fillet steak and Kanae said she couldn’t believe she had made a mistake that early. Kanae fought back and Sabrina on fish annoyed Kanae by telling her to not let the team down. Sabrina was doing fish and chips which she was uncertain how to check when it’s cooked but after getting help from Antonio she got the first orders out. Kanae ended up running the meat station solo and got behind on the heavy chicken, lamb and fillet orders and a furious Ramsay told Antonio to leave the fish station and help Kanae out. Antonio brought up Kanae’s lamb which was raw and Sabrina then served raw fish for fish and chips, and Ramsay told the blue team they had to get their shit together. They finished the next tickets but Ramsay said it was a pathetic service at this stage and Giovanni said the blue team still weren’t working in sync and it was Sabrina’s fault they lost.
The red team led by Santos and Tara on appetisers wanted a strong start as well but their communication was not strong early on and Santos ended up serving a dry risotto for an early ticket with Ramsay asking Santos how he was still struggling to make risotto at this point of the competition. Tara’s pizzas came out perfect and Santos did pull it together on the next orders of appetisers and Elizabeth on fish supported well with tuna and scallops. Santos and Tara did finished appetisers well and Tara felt she was proving herself as the leader of the red team. Van on garnish said it was time for the red team to kill it on entrees and Nikki on meat had a great start serving perfect fillets and chicken for the early tickets. Nikki continued to have a great service and despite being annoyed at Tara’s attempts to help, she ended up appreciating it due to the high steak orders. Van continued to lead the team strongly on garnish but noticed that Elizabeth was getting flustered on fish with Elizabeth calling for an extra 2 minutes twice and Ramsay saying that Elizabeth needed help big time. Elizabeth then burnt seabass and got a pep talk from Ramsay to get her shit together, but Elizabeth did fight back after that and the red team finished a strong service to win and Van said he was pumped to lead the team to victory.
The blue team had lost and Sabrina was quick to say that Kanae had cost them service on the meat station and that Antonio was a disaster so they should go up but Kanae said that Sabrina had more bad services than good ones so had to go up and Giovanni agreed that Sabrina was constantly hurting the team. Sabrina ranted how she was the strongest performer on the team and that Giovanni and Kanae had been hiding all season but Ed also put Sabrina up and decided Antonio would be the 2nd nominee. Ramsay did accept Sabrina and Antonio as the nominees but said he needed to hear from someone else and called Kanae forward for her performance on the meat station. Ramsay eventually eliminated SABRINA for her lack of consistency and for being put up again but warned Kanae and Antonio they needed to step up next service. Ed said he had been the strongest Chef so far and that the blue team needed to keep up while Tara said she had proven herself as a leader by leading the red team to victory.

Our farewell event is taking place at a beach restaurant, 80 guests total. From 1-6pm. Buffet style, with a pizza cart too. Rented exclusively for our party.
I have been negotiating price of our guest menu with them for the past few weeks, to which they agreed upon. Then, while reviewing the contract, I see they added in a €50 per person “Staff Menu” for our event.
I’m struggling to understand why we would be entitled to pay for the wait staff meals? Shouldn’t this have been worked into our rental price to begin with? I’m beginning to think they added this on after we negotiated the price to make up some of the difference. We’re extremely generous tippers, and them adding this onto the cost suddenly makes me feel a little reluctant to take care of them as well as we had planned to.
Also… it’s a 5 hour shift in the middle of the day. Who is going to be sitting down for a full blown meal while working our event? A good sandwich or salad in the area costs no more than €15.
Thoughts?

Training

This race coincided with my training cycle for the San Francisco Marathon (in late July) and was the last of three half marathons I had planned before zeroing in on building the miles. While I'm still a fairly new runner (running consistently only since the Santa Monica Classic 10K last September), I took on quite a fair amount of distances (and races) and finishing the LA Marathon back in March. I spent a lot of time figuring out what to do, how to train, and it wasn't until late January (about seven weeks prior to the marathon) that I adopted easy running and long runs and I started seeing some breakthroughs: sub-25:00 in the 5K, sub-55:00 in the 10K, and sub-2:00:00 in the half marathon, all in that month. I got the racing bug and signed up for what was definitely too many races after the marathon was done.
Fast forward to after the marathon, I met and spoke with a running coach and got a training plan from her for the San Francisco Marathon, which I jumped into 2 weeks after the LA Marathon. Training started well, setting a PR at the Carlsbad 5000 with a new 5K PR of 22:53 and base building looked good: the long runs went from 8 miles the first week up to 14 by Week 4. My first major test was at the OC 5K followed by the OC Half Marathon the very next day: I had pushed a bit too hard in the 5K (ran 22:54) and it showed in the half - I had set a goal of 1:45 and a combination of weaving, hills, and fatigue kept me from achieving that, finishing in 1:46:18.
In the weeks that followed, I kept up with at least one run over 10 miles: 6 days later, I ran the Santa Barbara Wine Country Half Marathon going at my usual long run pace with a fast finish, and followed that up with an 11 mile long run and then a 15 mile long run. I also snagged a 10K PR on Memorial Day (with a 44:55) on the back of a 45-mile week. I also decided it would be fun to go on a trail run the day before the Rock n' Roll Half, but that was a quick 5K with a big uphill. In hindsight, I definitely should have rested the Saturday before the race as well, but these are the things we learn on the road to improvement.

Pre-Race

I took the Friday before the race off from running and physical activity altogether, so I was feeling rather good; I drove down to San Diego the day before the race to pick up my bib and shirt. The legs felt fine despite the rather high mileage and lack of a taper for this race. I had a good lunch at a nice taco place near Petco Park and a pizza dinner, checked into my hotel and was asleep around 9:30pm to be up a bit before 4am to get ready for the race. Race morning was more or less as planned: got up early, made myself a coffee in the room, drove out to park by the finish line about an hour before the start, and walked about 20 minutes to the start line to drop off my gear. When I approached the start line, I got into my race shoes, dropped off my gear, had my caffeine gummies, and warmed up for 10-15 minutes.

Race

Miles 1-3: I looked for the 3:30 marathon pacer and just tried to stick with him, running just quicker than 8:00/mile. This section was also mostly uphill so I used that as a reminder to hold off on the pace and to trust the pacing. I started with the 2nd corral so I did question if I was going too slow when a few people started passing me and zooming by, but I shrugged them off as late starters. At that point, the pace felt easy, calm, and collected, and I crossed the 5K timing mat in just under 24:30.
Miles 4-6: By this point, I knew the hills would turn into flat, and this was a good opportunity for me to settle into a rhythm and keep good form. I also reminded myself that my first gel would come at mile 5, and it was a little awkward getting it out of my back pocket - but luckily I had practiced that in training. Still, I sped up the pace a little bit to see how I would fare, and I crossed the 10K timing mat in just under 49 minutes.
Miles 7-10: This was where I felt I could use the downhills in my favor. I sped up to 7:35ish pace and it felt comfortable - the half marathoners also split from the full marathoners just after mile 8, and this was where I wondered if I'd be able to push any further. Before hitting 15K, there was quite a steep downhill and my quads definitely felt it: it was a precursor to what I'd feel in the coming miles.
Miles 11-13: There was a steep uphill right after crossing the mile 10 marker and after a few miles of downhill, it was a total shock to the system and my legs really started to feel heavy and I was on the struggle bus to the finish. The course also turned into slight rolling hills (with more downhill than uphill) and the race really turned into a mental battle, but surprisingly, the pace did not significantly slip. The mental battle turned even more difficult as I saw more and more runners peeling off to the side and slowing down to a walk. As I reached Mile 12, however, I really felt my breathing going heavy and being really thirsty so I took some water and Gatorade at the last aid station before the finish. I told myself to just go at the pace of my previous splits and I knew I would PR by a wide margin and not obsess over the sprint finish or lack thereof, so that was what I did. To my surprise, I still managed to keep the pace quicker than 8:00 miles even when I was hurting after Mile 10.

Post-race

It felt like a massive milestone to go below 1:45, after missing out by just over a minute 4 weeks ago and it came to show how far I've come in just 9 months of my running journey. But more than that, I was surprised by how much the race more or less went to plan, despite slowing down a little in miles 11-13. I met a first-timer when I was getting back my gear and lining up for pictures and we shared about our races and running experiences. My next race is the San Francisco Marathon, so I'll be de-loading this week and then building the mileage up to a peak of around 60 miles and doing a two-week taper before the marathon. My next half marathon is in October, where I'll be running the Long Beach Half Marathon: I've learned my lesson to not schedule more than 2 races in a calendar month. Maybe someday, I'll learn my lesson to properly taper for a week before a half marathon.

2023.06.05 16:31 MasterHandSSBU Personally insulting the fans of every NBA superstar and also Chris Paul

Lebron James - The easy joke here is that you are somebody who doesn’t really know anything about basketball and just picked the guy you recognised from Space Jam or adverts, but the truth runs a little bit deeper than that. If Lebron James is your favourite player you don’t even like basketball, you like arguing online. The sad truth is, you desperately crave the facade of friendship that comes with the tribalism inherent to picking a side in a popular argument. You exist only to say Lebron is better than Jordan or Curry or Dwyane Wade or whoever it is you and your gang are arguing about that week. Any game of basketball that doesn’t have Lebron in it is completely worthless to you unless it can be used as evidence about a player that Lebron played with/against. Any game with Lebron in it is a nightmare, because you know if he plays badly MJ fans will make fun of you on Twitter, and to you that’s all that matters.
Steph Curry - To be a Curry fan means that, intrinsically, you are spoiled. Your hands are soft and unworked, your mummy still pays for your groceries and you have a manservant to wipe your ass when you’ve finished shitting. You were raised on state-funded winning and excuses for failure. You would never survive even a day in the wild, you shrink from adversity like a child fleeing the hand of an abusive father and you speak like a ten-year old. You have no place in the dirtier arguments of the NBA, you consider yourself above them. Steph and his superteam have coddled you, made you feeble with his asterisk rings. The thought of supporting a REAL player, somebody you have to FIGHT for scares you too much. You are, and forever will be, bitchmade.
Kawhi Leonard - You will never understand why the rest of us are so jealous of you. Kawhi has his rings, he has his fan love and he has an excuse to retire early and not embarrass you with the sight of having to watch him average 7 points a game for the Grizzlies at the age of 36. You support a basketball player who isn’t. Kawhi is now little more than a myth, a legend of the rings of yesteryear that echoes throughout the barren planes of San Antonio and Toronto. All you, as his trusted liege can do is keep the flame alive for as long as you can. The winds may howl and call him a pussy for his load management but as long as you shelter the flame, and Kawhi keeps conveniently getting injured when the Clippers need him, you will be safe. They will always remember the Philly shot. That’s all you need.
Joel Embiid - He can’t keep getting away with this, right? I mean, you put in WORK to get him that MVP, more work than he did, and this is how he repays you? You remember a time when you laughed at the fans of ringless players. AI, Melo, Lillard, Chris Paul, Harden until he saw the light, all bums. Embiid would get you a ring, he was designed to get you a ring, he had to get you a ring. You deserve a ring. You sat through the rebuild, all those injury problems, Ben fucking Simmons, all because you were promised a ring. And every year you would say ‘we lost because of this thing that isn’t Embiid’s fault, we’ll be back next year!’. And for a while, the public believed you. They bought your tales and your lies. Not anymore. They know the truth now, and they hate him for it. Deep down, you do too.
Kevin Durant - How many times will KD ‘seek a new challenge’ or ‘make the move right for him’ before you come to terms with what he is? He’s a nasty ring chaser, and that’s okay. Everyone would respect you more if you just admitted it. You can cope all you want and justify all his moves by claiming ‘toxic environment!’ or ‘the front office hated him!’ but even you don’t believe that, you just say it to save face. The worst part is, you haven’t heard the worst of it yet. KD has gone remarkably unscrutinized by NBA media as a whole, but when people start to question whether the most remarkable unicorn the NBA had seen since Wemby should have more than two state-funded rings, you might have some explaining to do. Maybe he should have stayed loyal to Oakland. Not OKC though, fuck that place.
James Harden - I want you to find a coin right now and flip it, catch it in your hand and turn it over. Take note of what side it lands on and keep flipping it until it lands on the other side. If you can flip this coin 56 times and have it land on the same side every time, congratulations! You have matched the statistical probability of the 2018 Rockets missing 27 consecutive threes. What this exercise should show you is that God is real and for whatever reason, he hates James Harden. Spare your soul and support a real player instead.
Giannis Antetokounmpo - Nobody has ever enjoyed a Giannis performance without already being a fan of Giannis in the first place. He is perhaps the most consistently boring superstar to watch. He never takes threes unless they’re wide open, he has never had a super interesting or acrobatic dunk, he loves free throws and he makes about 14 barely contested layups per game. He has no dribbling bag and his defence relies on simply being large. He is a boring player, and you know this, because that’s why you like him. Your idea of ‘good basketball’ is simply the person who can score the most points with the highest efficiency. You live and die by the box score because you genuinely think that’s the objective way of saying who had the best game. You could be sat in front of an Excel spreadsheet instead of a Bucks game and have essentially the same amount of fun, because your brain has been programmed to release dopamine whenever it sees three numbers over 10 next to each other. You are boring, we all think you’re dull, and when the rest of us are discussing real basketball we don’t want you anywhere near us because your idea of humour is just saying the jokes that Giannis said again. An Allen Iverson comp would kill you on the spot.
Russell Westbrook - It would be easy to make a joke about how much you miss 2017 and how you pretended it still is to try and stop the pain from setting in, but to be honest I honestly think you do still genuinely believe it to be 2017. For you, time hasn’t progressed at all. You’ve been known to play Despacito and Ed Sheeran when you get the aux and you can’t stop talking about how excited you are for Infinity War to come out. And yes, you do still somehow believe Russell Westbrook is a good player. Despite all your friends and family pleading with you to move on and showing you Youtube videos of that time he hit the side of the backboard, you firmly believe that Russ is still cooking on the Thunder. I can promise you, it doesn’t get better. Wake up now before we lose you forever.
Nikola Jokic. You are a 35 year old white guy with a beard and glasses who would, if asked to, happily pay to get advanced basketball statistics. Your life is filled with words like ‘True Shooting’ and ‘Player Impact Estimate’ that the rest of us couldn’t give a single shit about. You are who KD was talking about when he said people watch basketball through a graph. If I showed you a powerpoint saying that Mike Conley is the piece missing from the Suns to make them chip favourites you would believe me as long as I added in enough bar graphs. You have a poster of Ernie on your wall. You have never discussed basketball without double checking a fact on your phone. When you go to a bar in a city you don’t know you make a big deal about ordering local beers, and if the guy next to you didn’t hear you order it you order it again but louder. You have strong opinions on pirating that nobody agrees with. You are probably a centrist. You have no idea how much I pity you.
Luka Doncic - There are two types of Luka fans, the hollow, soulless Mavs fan who physically cannot talk about his team without saying the phrase ‘We just need to get Luka some help’, and the 16 year old jerker who’s brain instinctively goes ‘Luka Doncic is Devin Booker father’ the second they see his name. Both are equally hard to talk to, but at least the Mavs fan has an excuse for their suicidal demeanour. The jerker is barely even a human at this point, a bag of flesh that surrounds an endless stream of catchphrases and recycled memes. Luka Doncic is Devin Booker father. If you laughed at that for the second time, seek therapy or employment.
Jayson Tatum - Bro I am NOT GAY, I promise but IF I was, IF bro, IF I was then of course I would have sweaty man sex with Jayson Tatum, he’s just cute bro it’s not gay to say that bro it isn’t I swear. What? Tatum’s game isn’t good enough to justify the lengths I’ll go to defend him? He’s not really all that and I only love him so much because I think he’s sexually attractive. Nah bro you’re crazy for that one I won’t lie, just because Tatum’s lips are soft like pillows and I like the way his ass jiggles and I wish the NBA would let him play without a shirt on doesn’t make me gay bro you’re crazy for that one.
Zion Williamson - The Great Zion Debate revolves around a single word; ‘if’. IF Zion was to play regularly, he’d probably be top 3 bigs in the league, but guess what? He doesn’t, so he isn't. That should be a very simple thing to understand, but Zion fans love nothing more than to drag everyone into a world full of hypotheticals and make-believe, where anything is possible except Zion’s shitty conditioning being his own fault. Eventually you’ll be spat out of their portal wearing nothing but a lobster bib and a Jose Alvarado jersey, fully believing that it’s AD’s fault that Zion loves food more than he loves his own mother. After all, you can’t say he plays bad if he simply never plays.
Damian Lillard - Oh fuck you’re so cool man, you’re so cool because the player you support is so loyal man, that just makes you so much cooler than everyone else man. Ignore all the times you’ve screamed for him to be traded because the Trail Blazers are a complete poverty franchise, that doesn’t matter because Dame is so loyal and cool man, Dame time baby let’s go! Let’s fucking go! Who cares that the current state of the NBA would be exactly the same if Dame was never drafted and spent his entire life delivering DnD equipment to Portland’s extensive collective of people who couldn’t care less about basketball, he’s so clutch! Ignore all the red flags and hope the Lakers come through with a trade request. You’ll need post-season success more than you think in the years to come.
Chris Paul - When Chris Paul retires without a ring, which is a near guarantee unless Phoenix fix their shit or he begs Denver to take his dog ass for a season, what will you do? You probably gave up on your hopes of a ring around the same time Harden fans did, but man 2021 gave you hope didn’t it? Just for a second you felt what it was like to support a real player, a real man. Not the banana boat enthusiast who choked leads like they were Bart Simpson, but a player who could maybe win something someday. It must have been nice while it lasted. Then, reality set in. To be honest, I don’t really know who I’m talking to with this one. Chris Paul surely doesn’t have any fans left. He barely even has his own family on his side. Ah well, you’ll always have Lob City. And Kim K.
Jimmy Butler - It’s always someone else’s fault isn’t it. Ever since Jimmy realised he could just blame KAT for all the T’wolves failings you’ve carried on that legacy for as long as you can remember. Maybe if Bam plays better against Denver your beloved Jordan surrogate won’t have to be directly outscored by UDFA’s every night. It’s okay though, Jimmy has ‘fundamentals’. You love fundamentals don’t you, they’re that thing you use when you don’t have any actual arguments to say why Jimmy’s better than the perennial MVP candidate you’ve set him up against for no reason. You can whine and cope and say ‘he makes his teammates better’ but if that were true, wouldn’t he have achieved something in Chicago, or with that very promising Minnesota roster? Surely it must be someone else’s fault. Maybe it’s the leagues for hiring referees. Or maybe it’s KAT’s fault again. Who knows.
Kyrie Irving - Kyrie fans are the rare breed of basketball fan that actually play basketball, the problem is that they think they’re him with the handles and the ankle breakers and the and-ones, but in reality they are complete fucking garbage. I will never choose you to play pickup with unless you are the last option and I will never pass you the ball because I don’t want to watch you bounce it off your own thigh for 20 minutes. And dude, can you please stop talking about the Zionist New World Order or whatever the fuck you saw on Twitter last night? I fucking doubt the guy with the MAGA Pepe pfp has links deep in the US government, so forgive me for not believing that they put aphrodisiacs in the tap water so that we spend all our money on babies, just help me guard their sharpshooter or fuck off. And wear some deodorant fucking hell.
Devin Booker - You know, if a player needs All-Star candidates at every other position on the court just to progress to the Conference Finals, chances are that player isn’t very good. This thought does not register in the mind of the Booker fan, who genuinely believes that KD, Chris Paul and Deandre Ayton isn’t enough help. Your greed knows no bounds and will swallow you whole one day, yet in your lust for power you fail to turn inwards. Where was Booker vs the Mavs that one time? Why did he only score 12 points vs the Nuggets this year? Is he stupid? Does he not know he can play well in big games? No, no, clearly the Suns just need to trade Cam Payne and Ayton for Sabonis or AD or some other top 5 big, surely that’s where the problem lies right? Wait, what do you mean salary cap?
Ja Morant - Oh man I feel bad for you. You’re probably a guy who just enjoys basketball as a spectacle, who doesn’t particularly care about winning or losing as long as you get to watch the most entertaining players in the league pull off the most ridiculously flashy plays. Isn’t that what we all want, deep down? Maybe you were raised on a healthy diet of Vince Carter or D Rose, maybe you just think a guy who can jump over another guy for a bucket is neat, whatever the answer is you’re trapped with this fucking idiot who can’t keep himself out of trouble. Now the team you touted as the most exciting in the league is the most hated in the league, and through no fault of your own you look like a fucking idiot. Worse still, the sheen has come off the Grizzlies young core and now people actually expect them to start winning, probably without Ja. Consider suing Instagram before Adam Silver demands Ja be burned at the stake for his transgressions against his fellow players.
Trae Young - Yes, we all remember that New York series. Yes, we all thought Ice Trae was hot shit at the time. But guess what? That was 2 years ago and Trae has shown no signs of progressions since. Still a liability on defence, still a massive ball hog and still ugly as fuck. Just face the facts and admit that without these rivalries you create, be it with New York or Luka or whoever, Trae would be the most forgettable player in the league. Three point specialists are a dime a dozen in the post-Steph era, and there’s nothing to really separate your fave from Dame or Paul George or De’Aaron Fox or any other number of downtown dwellers. Also like dude, come on, he’s so ugly. Have some self respect.

2023.06.05 16:22 No-Map6818 Single Women Are Miserable, but It Has Little to Do With Not Having a Child or Husband

Being a woman and single is double jeopardy for modern women.
Being a woman is already considered a crime since the history of patriarchy. From the time of a girl’s puberty, she’s seen as a temptress to men. Some are even accused of being witches and burnt at the stake just because they are different from others.
What a girl wears and how she speaks are criticized before she learns what femininity means. By the time she becomes a full-grown woman and decides she wants to be single for life, she becomes more dangerous to society compared to mothers and wives.
Let’s not talk about the sexual abuse and social degradation women endure because of our gender. Or the fact that women have no right over their bodies. It’s as if being a woman is a crime.
But guess what? Modern women are criminalizing themselves even more and they cannot be convicted twice.
At 38, I’m so happy I can no longer be exploited by men. Now I feel more entitled than ever to have my freedom. If the dude can’t comprehend, he can hit the door.
Just recently, a guy I was crushing on decided to man up and ask me out. You know as a miserable single woman, this guy was doing me a favor since I have no one to take care of me.
That’s right!
Men are deluded to think single women are miserable so I decided to indulge this one. He felt high and mighty until I unleashed my demons.
Dinner was great. I had my fill at Sushi Bar. I made sure to pick the most expensive food and wine in the menu. I’m miserable after all. I need to cool my frustration with all the happy things I can get.
I kept ordering more food and eating bites out of it. The frittata was too good I almost ordered a second plate. Their Maki is the best I have had so far. We ordered different recipes but my favorite was the sushi maki roll.
Mr Goody Two Shoes, was surprised that this miserable lady had a fantastic taste. He was quite the gentleman and didn’t complain as I made unnecessary demands about my food choices. Or maybe he was putting on a brave face to hide his insecurities.
“Oh, this wine is horrible. I think is expired,” I said after drinking one glass of the exotic wine. To be fair I think that wine was really cheap but they marked up the price to $120. I ordered a second bottle from a different brand. This one I managed to drink half the bottle before complaining that it was making me obnoxious.
I requested we go to another diner. I wasn’t done getting over my misery and the guy was getting cocky.
I mean what else can a miserable woman do other than eat and drink to forget her misery?
The waiter came with our bill. A smile crowned my lips as I saw the guy’s face turn red. He was contemplating whether to pay the bill alone or have me contribute.
“C’mon honey, you are getting dramatic. You know how lonely and frustrated these past weeks have been for me. You are the first person to make me happy in a long long time,“ I said. Looking as innocent and disappointed as a toddler about to lose her candy.
He finally had the confidence to pay and paid the $2,630 bill, including the parking lot and tips. I could sense he was cursing me from inside. As we got to the car, about going to our next entry, he got a call. He said he was urgently needed at home.
Damn! Bad timing.
His friend who was also his business partner was waiting for him to discuss something. I didn’t hear their conversation over the phone, but I suspected he used the call as an excuse to cancel.
I bought his lies. But my miserable self wasn’t satiated. I kept waiting for another opportunity to feed my unquenchable monster.
Unfortunately, this guy didn’t talk to me after that night. He went zombie on me. I sent him a text to know when we’ll meet next. He ignored me. We didn’t communicate until after four weeks and five days. Yes, I was counting! Even though I didn’t contact him all this time, I was still hoping he would come back.
When he finally called, I pretended to be surprised. Of course, I had to act real. But I expressed my interest to see him again. He wanted us to meet at some low-key spot.
I lied that I was out of town. I told him I had lodged at Indigo Resort and that I needed to get away because of stress and loneliness. He asked when I would be coming back, and I said I won’t be in Houston for a while. But he can join me at the resort and I will pay for his flight if he seriously wants to see me.
He jumped at my offer. I booked our flights to San Diego. But my date was a day earlier so I would be there before he arrived.
I made reservations for a couple’s spa treatment and arranged for a special dinner date. I even went on a limp to get him a gift, an $1800 Versace watch. I could tell he was overwhelmed by my gesture.
I was having fun myself. I got drunk that night, and this guy thought it was a perfect opportunity to get sex from me. He must have confused my actions or maybe he just expected sex as part of my benevolence.
When we got to his room, I said goodnight and went to my bedroom. He tried to stop me, decorating my neck and face with kisses to get me turned on. I pushed him away and told him to not ruin my day with his selfish demand. That straightened him up a bit.
I already made a sacrifice to pay for this trip so he wouldn’t think I owe him anything. But to my surprise, he wanted more.
Over brunch, he apologized for misbehaving last night. He said he had been thinking of telling me how he feels but was scared I would turn him down. He said he wanted our relationship to be more than just friendship.
He wanted me to consider the possibility of marrying him so he wants us to start with a permanent relationship. He even offered to be my sperm donor since having another child will make me feel less miserable.
Tck! How rude of him!
I was slightly offended that he used marriage to entice me. But I waved that anger away because I wasn’t going to allow his selfishness to get in my happiness.
We spent three days at the hotel, but I made sure the memories were unforgettable. As for his proposal and offer, I didn’t think about it, nor did I revisit the conversation. I’m tired of repeating the same thing to people like him who think women are desperate for marriage.

Society makes single women miserable

Single women are not miserable because they don’t have a husband or child. We are miserable because we have plenty of time to ourselves and we careless about pleasing others.
We are miserable because we have to endure people’s opinions that are contrary to ours. We are frustrated for repeating the same thing over and over again that our happiness lies in our freedom of uncompromised attention to ourselves.
We are frustrated because society can’t seem to understand that taking care of a pet is less of a burden than taking care of a husband or child and they continue to impose family structure on us.
Single women are miserable for living an uncompromising life and giving themselves priority over anything else. But it also makes us happier.
Just like biological parents are having fun raising their kids despite the frustration of paying their child’s insurance and sacrificing ‘me-time’ for their children’s wellbeing. Single women are also having fun despite not having anyone to care for.
Even though statistics prove that parents are less happy than non-parents and that children lower life quality, single women keep getting embarrassed by mothers who think they are more worthy of their womanhood.
Another study shows that single women are 10x happier than married women and the fact that no one approves of single women’s happiness is more depressing than loneliness.
I’m so miserable that that thought of marriage makes me sick. Do you know what’s more terrifying than raising a child? Putting up with a man’s ego.
The nerve of men to expect women to be the perfect loyal partner forever when they cannot stay loyal for more than 12 months in the marriage. Some will even betray you on the wedding day with your bridesmaid.
Life is miserable for everyone in one way or the other. Mothers and fathers don’t have it easier than spinsters and bachelors. We all face challenges in some aspect of our lives.
From all indications, it appears that single women are intentionally shamed because they reject social expectations of women. Society thinks by shaming women for being single, all women will be forced to return to patriarchal standards.
Somehow I’m relieved that I was born after the feminist movement began. This gives me more power to resist social pressure knowing that being selfish is a prerequisite to happiness.
According to statistics, single men are more unhappy than single women, yet, no one shames single men. So next time someone tries to pity me for being single, I will assure them that I’m so miserable that their words fall on deaf ears.
And now that researchers have proven that being single and childless makes you richer, I might just forget my desire to have a son and bank more money for my retirement and live a fabulously rich miserable life.

2023.06.05 15:17 stonescoldtakes NFL Update: 05/29/2023 - 06/04/2023 - OTAs Week 2!!!

Layout:
— Individual Team News + Stone’s Cold Takes
— Miscellaneous/Other NFL News
— Restaurant of the Week - Pittsburgh
Arizona Cardinals:
This team cannot unload folks fast enough it seems. They are now looking to potentially move on from LB Isaiah Simmons who in many folks eyes has not lived up to the hype from the draft. WE shall see if they can get anything for him if they do decide to move on. The storyline I am most interested in watching this year here is first how long Kyler Murray will be out and second how rookie QB Clayton Tune is developing. It seems like they took him so they could try out a young QB in the interim while Murray is working his way back. Apparently thus far he has been doing well in OTAs.
Atlanta Falcons:
Not too much news from the Falcons but many will be excited to hear about Kyle Pitts expected to be back for the season opener. Hopefully this is the year he can really break out but a lot will depend on the QB Desmond Ridder actually being able to throw him the ball unlike the past quarterbacks he has had who have not made things easy.
Baltimore Ravens:
Good news here because receiver seems to be a position where the Ravens have struggled to get good production. With new OC Todd Monken that should start to change and with an added emphasis on the passing game it inevitably should change as more throws are made.
Buffalo Bills:
Great move here signing Ed Oliver to his extension. He is a key piece of that d-line and helps hold them together. I personally don’t believe they or really any of the other teams that have said they are out on DeAndre Hopkins actually are. To me it appears more to be a message saying they are not going to be paying him the money that WR Odell Beckham got earlier this offseason. Only time will tell. Great news for the team that EDGE Von Miller should be back by the season opener. Personally though I would take my time with him and would be overly cautious to make sure he is fully healthy. Hopefully that is by week 1!
Carolina Panthers:
The hype appears to be real for the Bryce Young but it is what every team says about their rookie quarterback who is a top pick so hard to decipher how folks are actually feeling. I am excited about how Frank Reich will use WR Laviska Shenault because I have always been impressed with his athletic ability and expected him to break out more. It seems this could have been the type of role he has been waiting for.
Chicago Bears:
A lot of news around the future stadium of the Bears. It appeared a couple weeks ago that everything was moving along as planned and no issues had come up. This week there was nothing but concerns and problems. I wonder if these are all real storylines or if it is something they are using to try and negotiate more with the government to get help with the stadium. In more football news is appears that WR DJ Moore and QB Justin Fields are enjoying working together and developing a good connection. This is important to give Fields someone he can trust like he did his receivers at Ohio State.
Cincinnati Bengals:
Not too much football news here but they appear to be ready to take on the Chiefs again this year and make a deep playoff run. Also, it appears at this point that the team will keep RB Joe Mixon based on comments from the team and HC Zac Taylor. This offense per usual will be an exciting one to watch.
Cleveland Browns:
Good news and good vibes are finally coming out of Cleveland. Feels like it has been while. QB Deshaun Watson appears to be benefitting from having a full offseason and getting work in with his new receivers. He has been pushing hard for Hopkins and the Browns would make sense as a good landing spot for him given the prior relationship Watson and Hopkins had during their time in Houston. I have been pleasantly surprised by how well things appear to be going so far this offseason.
Dallas Cowboys:
Similar to the Bills I don’t think the Cowboys are actually out on Hopkins but probably sending a message that he needs to bring down his asking price. I wonder sometimes if they are still saving room for RB Ezekiel Elliott to come back here and play especially with them gaining the $10.9m in cap space after the deadline. Also, hopefully the team can get something done with CB Trevon Diggs sooner rather than later because he has been an impactful piece on defense despite the big plays he occasionally gives up because he can change a game with one of his interceptions.
Denver Broncos:
Not too much news here but they did find their replacement for K Brandon McManus in Elliott Fry. I would say less news from this team this offseason is better because ever since QB Russell Wilson struggled it seemed like the media was out to get him and the team any chance they had. HC Sean Payton must be running a pretty tight ship.
Detroit Lions:
All good news this week which should be good for morale. Seems they have strung together a couple good weeks during their OTAs. Great to see that RB Jahymr Gibbs is getting some reps in and showcasing his abilities that made the team feel the need to spend a high draft pick on him. Great to see as well that Penei Sewell at the young age of 22 taking on a leadership role and getting good work in as well. With that said OC Ben Johnson could be prepping and is expecting for the offense to have a big year.
Green Bay Packers:
It appears that it may be a bit tough in the post Aaron Rodgers era as expected. However, it does sound like there is less front office drama now that they are not having to work with him in the offseason. Time will tell whether the drama was more caused by a lack of good communication as Rodgers claimed recently or by the former Packers QB himself.
Houston Texans:
Good news about CJ Stroud but again as I mentioned with Bryce Young it is hard to find a team that drafted a top QB in the draft not raving about their quarterbacks progress at this point. The joint practices they have setup will be great for QB CJ Stroud. The Dolphins and Saints should each have tough defenses this year and will give Stroud a bit better of an idea of what to expect from an NFL defense in a real game.
Indianapolis Colts:
Looks like the Colts are trying to get receiver help but haven’t decided on any yet. This is the team that should go out and get Hopkins. They need a true #1 receiver and Josh Downs while I think he will be really good would benefit from having a big bodied possession type receiver in Hopkins. Also, it would give QB Anthony Richardson more of a safety net in terms of a WR that can help him progress and see things that he may not have picked up on otherwise.
Jacksonville Jaguars:
I am really excited for the Jaguars this season. They are kind of the forgotten team in the NFL most years but appear to be poised to make a deep playoff run this year. WR Calvin Ridley is going to be a huge difference maker this year and should benefit from QB Trevor Lawrence continuing to progress going into his 3rd NFL season.
Kansas City Chiefs:
Sad news to hear about Norma Hunt’s passing as the whole league mourned and sent their condolences. They are also supposedly out on Hopkins which I believe means they are really saying we need you to come down on price. The Chiefs though per usual have revealed though their secret weapon in WR Justyn Ross who many had forgotten about due to him sitting out with an injury his rookie year. It looks like Ross may be back to prior form when he was making plays at Clemson with Trevor Lawrence.
Las Vegas Raiders:
Even though the media and some fans were starting to worry about Jimmy G’s foot surgery it does not appear McDaniels has any worries about him missing time because of it. Will be interesting to see what the team ends up doing with Renfrow with all signs from earlier in the offseason pointing towards a release or trade.
Los Angeles Chargers:
Not much news here but it was great news to get confirmation from OT Rashawn Slater regarding his health and to hear WR Keenan Allen’s thoughts on rookie WR Quentin Johnson. This team should give us what they think they will every year and go far in the playoff this year.
Los Angeles Rams:
Not much news here but signed WR Tyler Johnson who can help them make some big splashy plays on offense. DC Raheem Morris helped saved a drowning child and credited his AED training. Always cool to hear these stories about NFL coaches and players leaping into action to help and save other in the community.
Miami Dolphins:
This team appears to be click on all levels so far this offseason and there appears to be a lot more good coming with the team working to get a Wilkins extension done before the season and may even still end up with RB Dalvin Cook here soon. Tua being completely healthy at this point doesn’t feel like much of a surprise but it does appear that he is trying to take on more of a leadership role after finding his confidence last year. My main worry though with Tua is that last year he still was very much a rhythm quarterback in my mind so when he got knocked off that rhythm he had some really bad games. However, when he was able to keep in rhythm he at times looked like the best passer in the league. It will be key this offseason now that he knows the offense to be able to play off rhythm when necessary and make those plays that the top quarterbacks in the league make if he wanting to take the next step.
Minnesota Vikings:
It appears that the Vikings are in a holding pattern and I imagine are hoping to get a trade package they approve of for RB Dalvin Cook. Sooner or later though it appears that Dalvin Cook will not be with the Vikings this year. Big win though for the fans and locals in Minnesota with the team paying off their stadium early and saving taxpayers a bunch of money. Might get some more buy in from good press like that.
New England Patriots:
Not much news here but it appears things are moving along really well in comparison with last year at this time. QB Mac Jones seems happy and is working hard. It will be tough for this Patriots team with how stacked the division is but maybe a big move to get Hopkins and some improvement from the offense and Mac Jones and who knows they may be right up there with everyone else in the division.
New Orleans Saints:
Another team where things just seem to be clicking so far is here in New Orleans. QB Derek Carr seems to be doing a good job taking on a leadership role and working with teammates such as TE Juwan Johnson. Things will be going even better if WR Michael Thomas can actually return for camp and find a way to play near a level that he used to. Right now in a wide open NFC South it appears that this team will be the favorites to win it going into the season.
New York Giants:
Not much here which may be a good thing for a New York team to get a break from all the media. This season will be an interesting one with how the team went all in on QB Daniel Jones. It kind of feels like besides the Eagles the rest of the division is up for grabs with no true strong contender emerging yet.
New York Jets:
Good news on the Quinnen Williams front and in keeping Aaron Rodgers happy. Williams and the team are not far off in contract talks which hopefully means something will get done here very soon. Rodgers has been raving about the Jets communication skills which was his main gripe with the Packers. Now lets just make it clear that he does not need to be pulling the sled.
Philadelphia Eagles:
Man what a difference one decision can make. Jalen Hurts I imagine would have been in Seattle had the trade happened for Russell Wilson. I bet Eagles fans are happy this didn’t pan out but it does not mean they need to cut Wilson any slack for not wanting to play in Philly if these teams meet in future seasons or end up playing each other in the Super Bowl. Eagles appear setup to be the main threat in the NFC.
Pittsburgh Steelers:
Not much out of Pittsburgh per usual but the good news is that Broderick Jones is progressing nicely and is already getting 1st-team reps at Left Tackle. I am sure QB Kenny Pickett is pleased with that.
San Francisco 49ers:
Things are moving along just fine for the 49ers. Exciting to hear that S Ji’Ayir Brown is making good progress and apparently had 4 or 5 interceptions during OTAs. I imagine the team is also very pleased with the progress QB Brock Purdy is making in his recovery from elbow surgery. He appears to be on pace with the original timeline. If this team can figure it out at the QB position they just might be the most complete all around team up there with the Eagles.
Seattle Seahawks:
Gotta love HC Pete Carroll. It seems like so far it has been pretty unanimous that all those that are playing or coaching football do not love the new kickoff rules. I am sure folks will find ways to take advantage of it though. Once again this week WR Jaxon Smith Njigba was impressive and should be establishing himself within that offense. Seahawks could very well be a sleeper team in the NFC that was good last year but that folks are paying a ton of attention to this year.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers:
This team has all the big name weapons at receiver one could ask for as long as they stay healthy. It was great to hear that Chris Godwin is getting his explosiveness back. Now not surprisingly it comes down to the QB battle and a big part of that is gaining respect from those veteran players and coaches in the building. I still feel like this battle is QB Baker Mayfield’s to lose at this point.
Tennessee Titans:
Sad news this past week here as well with the passing of Bob Hyde. Also, finally some negative news about one of the Quarterbacks from this year’s draft. Will Levis has been struggling. However, this should not be viewed as a bad sign because every rookie is going to struggle and Levis with his situation has the benefit of time.
Washington Commanders:
Seems we are inching closer and closer to the Josh Harris Group’s bid being fully accepted by the owners after some minor adjustments. From the actual team and players it sounds like things are going really well and maybe better than a lot of folks expected. CB Emmanuel Forbes has been doing well in the slot and QB Sam Howell is looking the part and taking charge. The Commanders will be a fun team to watch this year and see how they end up when it is all said and done.
Miscellaneous/Other NFL News:

Restaurant of the Week: (Pittsburgh - Burgatory)
Get excited Pittsburgh fans and all folks going to a game here! Burgatory is only a half mile from the stadium and has some of the best food so far from the restaurants that have been featured. One of my personal favorites is the Piggy Butter & Jelly. Yes, that is a burger with peanut butter and jelly on it. Don’t question it just try it. However, if for some reason you do not my other recommendation would be The Triple B which is a Bison, Beer Cheese, and Bacon burger. Hence the name Triple B. You can’t really go wrong with anything on the menu and the important thing though is that you don’t forget to grab a shake as well. My personal favorite is the Oreo Peanut Butter Pie shake. They are open every day starting at 11am and closer at 9pm everyday except for Friday and Saturday when they close at 11pm. Hop on over and enjoy this delicious food when in town for a game!

2023.06.05 04:46 sillychemistri Debating on leaving my current serving position

Okay so I started working at this local pizza restaurant about a month ago, and there have been a lot of questionable things about this place. It's my first job working as a server, so I wanted some advice from other servers.
The first thing Id like to mention is that it is a family owned business, which was something that I liked in the beginning. The management here, however, is very disorganized and there are two main managers that are constantly fighting with each other. The managers are also constantly getting after the servers about everything, and they don't stand behind their servers when there is a problem. For example, on my second day working there, I had a lady at a table tell me she wanted a salad, but then went up to my manager and told her she wanted a lasagna. My manager did not apologize to her, but instead said something along the lines of "yeah she's new but i don't know what is wrong with her," referring to me. I was too busy at the time to realize how messed up this was but this rubbed me the wrong way.
The next incident happened with a lady that came in with her mom to dine in, and did not pay her entire bill before leaving. When my manager saw the bill, he said that I should have seen that she didn't pay before leaving (however she left after I told her she still owed a certain amount). My manager ended up taking the money out of my tips for the day, because he had no other way to close the check or something along those lines. The lady ended up coming back and I ended up getting the money, but it took a few times of her coming into the restaurant for them to get the money to me.
Additionally, one of my managers is incredibly cheap with everything. If someone were to have extra pizza left over, he wants us to give them smaller boxes because the larger cardboard boxes are more expensive. Any chance he gets to upcharge somebody, he will, and he will get after the servers if we don't charge for absolutely everything (like extra dressing, sauce, etc). I understand this mostly because things are expensive nowadays, but not giving customers a pizza box is a little crazy.
I've also spent my last two sunday shifts doing nothing but cleaning. My previous Sunday shift my manager had me cleaning everything in the restaurant while also serving tables. She was also cleaning ceiling fans while guests were eating. My most recent Sunday shift I made only $8 in tips in 4 hours. I only had two tables all day. I am only working on the weekends, so this was really disappointing. On the other two days, I make okay tips, maybe $80 for five hours of work. From what I've seen from other people my tips seem pretty low. This place specifically charges a lot for their dishes, but the tips are super low. This weekend I did pretty good besides Sunday, however it is just not enough for me.
There are also just a bunch of tiny things that happen with mismanagement in general. There is not much communication and I was still holding out hope that things would get better soon. Some people I have talked to so far have said I have more than enough reason to quit, but I've been hesitant about it because I have become so familiar with the menu already (it has over like 50 items). So I wanted to get some advice on whether or not I should just leave and find a new place, or try to stick it out here until I go back to school in the fall.

2023.06.05 00:17 urUncleJoe Baldy Summit at sunset + Full moon!

Baldy Summit at sunset + Full moon!
Group of us stayed at the San Antonio ski hut over the weekend and Saturday night (6/3) hiked to the summit for sunset as well as the full moon rising at the same exact time, was a unreal experience as this was also my first multi day trip I know the ski hut doesn’t count since we didn’t carry a tent (but we had more weight in food and alcohol that we also had to carry down)
My girlfriend and I were a little behind the rest of the group due to her having knee pains the last mile up, but they always made sure we were in eye sight, and the others in the group have hiked baldy 30+ times
Hiking down it was so bright we really didn’t even need our headlamps though we used them to be safe
Overall a top notch experience for my first ever non car camping trip 10/10 recommend night hiking during a full moon (be safe though if we weren’t with a group of knowledgeable hikers we would not have attempted, snow + darkness = bad news)

2023.06.05 00:08 Frequent_Scallion_32 Living at home after college

I want to start this post by saying how lucky and fortunate I am. I’m a 23M, graduated from college last May and now working full time in San Antonio Texas making $70K as a financial analyst at a bank. I save and invest the majority of my paycheck because I love the “game” of building wealth and and growing my Net Worth. It’s super fun for me and kind of a hobby at this point.
I have an amazing relationship with my parents and we get along so great. They love having me home and tell me all the time that they don’t want me to move out. I’m also Hispanic , so culturally it’s more common to live with family until you are married.
I love being home, spending time with family and being able to save so much money. I feel like I’m making the right decision by staying with my parents and look at it as an investment in my future that most people don’t have the luxury of doing.
The “problem” is most of my coworkers and friends my age have all moved out of their parents homes and are renting apartments. Sometimes I get a little embarrassed to tell them I still live at home. Should I just ignore that feeling and remain at home? Maybe lie and tell them I don’t? What would you do in this situation or advise me to do?
Please let me know your thoughts, any advice or perspective would be greatly appreciated!!
