2023.06.09 19:13 Grand_Yam_9374 My flirty coworker might be cheating
I (23f) work remotely and about two months ago I met one of my coworkers (29m) (let's call him A) for the first time when we both traveled to a conference. We hit it off immediately and laughed the whole weekend, he invited me to dinner one night and it went great, but no physical contact or anything of that nature. To be honest, A is such an awesome and fun dude that when he invited me to dinner I assumed it was as friends, because I thought there's no way someone like this isn't already in a relationship. A couple days after the event though, he reached out to me through text and we've been texting consistently ever since. There's no other way to say it, he's been pretty flirty. He offered to gift me his shirt from a band we both like, he asks me questions nonstop and gives me compliments. In a lot of cases, he double texts and brings up new topics, which to me pretty clearly signifies that he wants to keep talking to me. A lives in my country but pretty far away, and in two weeks he's traveling to a city near the town where I live and asked me to go and meet up. I said yes. We're not staying in the same place (we're both staying with friends) but there's sort of a mutual understanding that we'll spend most of the time together. We've both expressed over text how much we're looking forward to this.
Here comes the kicker: This morning I was talking to another coworker who also attended the conference and the topic of expensive restaurants came up, and my coworker mentioned that A loves taking his girlfriend to expensive restaurants. Woah. I asked him when A told him this, and he said A mentioned it during the conference we all went to, and apparently he's talked about his girlfriend in other occasions too. To be honest, apart from the fact that I feel like total crap because I really like this dude and had gotten my hopes up, I have no clue how to proceed. It could be the case that they broke up since the conference, but the timing seems really weird and during our text convos we've talked about past relationships and breakups and he didn’t say he went through a recent breakup. He seems like such a good and honest dude that I started thinking that maybe I misread everything and he just wants to be friends (he's never specifically said he wants anything romantic with me), and I know you can misread things over text, but if you're talking consistently with someone AND going to meet up with them wouldn't you bring up your SO?? I realize that he could also be in an open relationship or is just straight up cheating, both of which cases I have absolutely NO intention of being a part of. I know I have to bring this up somehow before we see each other, but I have no idea how. Im also very worried that I did misread the whole thing, and he was just being friendly, and me bringing this up will probably make it very awkward for future work events.

2023.06.09 19:11 chloeru How to best help someone lost in the streets?
Hi all! Hope anyone here can help me how to best handle this situation for a next time!
Today I was picking up my baby from daycare and walking back home, a sweet, old lady asked us directions for a specific address. I was going the same direction so I told her I was happy to show her the way. While walking there, we talked a little bit and I immediately recognised some dementia/alzheimers signs from my own experience (she mentioned she was visiting her parents and came here by train - she appeared to be too old to still have parents and there is no train near where we live). At the same time, I didn't want to draw any incorrect conclusions and walked her to the address.
Unfortunately, that turned out to be an office building. It is very warm where we are, and I could tell this woman was tired and losing her balance a bit. I tried to ask a few more questions of where she needed to be and what she was doing in the area. Her answers were very inconsistent and at that point I became a little bit worried as I had 1) my baby girl that was out in the hot weather, and 2) this sweet lady that was clearly lost. After some more questions she finally showed me a little notebook with an address on top. I immediately recognised the address as the care home in our neighbourhood, which was very close to the place where she asked me for directions.
We walked all the way back to the home and a nurse was already walking towards us. They were very sweet and thanked me for my assistance. However, I feel quite bad for walking quite a distance with her out in the hot sun, while I already had a feeling she was probably living in the care house all along.
Is there anything I could have done differently to get her back home faster? I feel next time I should have called the elderly home immediately to avoid walking out in the sun all that way with an elderly person.
Happy to hear any of your suggestions!

2023.06.09 19:10 AshnodsCoupon How to play SMB4, from one of the best SMB3 players
This is a long post on how to win at SMB4 in online play. Most of these tips will also work against a computer, but I don’t play against the computer really ever so I’m not sure!
Who’s writing this? Why do I care about his opinion? I’m one of the best players in the world at SMB3 (and the gameplay for 4 seems very similar!). I played PR on 99 ego in SMB2 and 96 in SMB3. I’m currently on PR ego 91 in SMB4 and I’m 13-0 in PR, the game hasn’t figured out yet that 91 ego is too easy for me. I’ve finished second 3 times in XBL (the top unofficial league) and won XBL cup … at least once, maybe more? I think I might be the best hitter in the world. I’m definitely not the best pitcher ;). There are other players who are much better than me at locating pitches, which is the biggest weakness in my game.
How to hit - Always use power swing.
- Push the power swing button down a smidge before the pitcher releases the ball (earlier for slow pitchers, lower egos, or if you’re expecting an off-speed pitch).
- Release the power swing button when the pitch crosses the plate.
- Do not swing at pitches that are balls (duh).
- Do not swing at pitches that are strikes on the corners, unless there’s two strikes.
- If the opposing pitcher is having trouble locating, only swing at pitches that are near the middle of the zone. (If they suck at locating, you’ll get a pitch in the middle of the zone at least once per at bat, which means you don’t want to swing at other pitches even if they’re strikes).
- Do not watch the ball!! Only watch the “the pitch is going here” indicator and the “I’m aiming the swing here” indicator.
- But do watch the ball a bit out of the corner of your eye – the main goal of this is to figure out whether it’s a curveball (in which case you gotta swing a LOT later). If you can figure out whether it’s a changeup, that’s awesome, but that’s also really, really hard even for me.
- Try and get the “I’m aiming the swing here” indicator as close to the “the pitch is going here” indicator, and slightly below (so you get more flies than grounders).
- While waiting for the pitch, put the “I’m aiming the swing here” cursor just above the bottom of the zone, in the middle of the plate. This will give you more fly balls and fewer grounders. It will also punish pitchers who locate more than half their pitches low (which is the best pitching strategy against hitters who put the “I’m aiming swing here” cursor in the middle of the zone).
How to pitch - Always use power pitch.
- Aim only for the corners.
- Aim a smidge more towards the middle of the zone (but still near the corner) if you’re behind in the count.
- Perfectly placed strikes will actually show up with the middle of the ball slightly off the plate when viewed from the pitcher’s camera angle.
- Aim a smidge more away from the middle of the zone (a bit off the corner) on 1-2 and 0-2.
- Aim a smidge more towards the middle of the zone against bad-statted hitters, farther away for high-statted hitters.
- This is especially true if you’re happy to walk a high-statted hitter because the hitters after him/her are low-statted.
- Your pitch mix should include some balls and some strikes. I usually aim at a corner, in the zone. So if I have perfect accuracy, it’s always a strike. But I don’t have perfect accuracy, so I get the mix of some balls and some strikes that I want.
- Try to find what types of pitches your opponent is bad at handling:
- Do they swing too much at balls? Throw more balls, or aim strikes a bit farther from the middle of the zone than usual.
- Do they fail to hit strikes hard? Aim pitches closer to the middle of the zone than usual.
- Some opponents take the first pitch too frequently, especially if it’s a curve. Aim the first pitch closer to the middle of the zone than usual.
- Do they struggle with high velo? Low velo? High pitch? Low pitch? Change your pitch mix to punish their weakness. Bring in high velo or low velo relievers as appropriate.
- Your pitch mix should be 4-seamers, changes, and curves. If you throw too much fast stuff or too much slow stuff, it gets predictable.
- Slant pitch mix towards fastballs when behind in the count, and slant towards off-speed when ahead. This is because fastballs are more accurate.
- Slant pitch mix towards fastballs with two strikes. This is because off-speed pitches frequently result in foul balls. With less than two strikes, a foul is good for the pitcher. With two strikes, a foul is bad.
- Slant pitch mix towards low pitches. This makes grounders more likely.
- NEVER throw sliders. Throw cutters, 2-seams, and forkballs very infrequently.
- Obviously, in IRL baseball, this would be terrible advice. This is not IRL baseball.
- This is because you want to be faster or slower than the hitter is expecting. Medium-velo pitches are easy to time perfectly.
- Some pitchers don’t have a 4-seam, they have to use cutter or 2-seam as the “fast” pitch. Avoid using these pitchers if possible.
- Some pitchers have no change and no curve and have to use the slider as a slow pitch. Avoid using these pitchers except against opponents who have trouble with high-velo stuff.
- Exception: some PR players get fooled by high-junk medium-speed pitches that start in the zone and move out of the zone. With a high-junk pitcher, you can test for this weakness and exploit it if you find it. Against high-ego opponents (85+), assume they don’t have this weakness, don’t try it, they will hit it really hard.
- Exception: I’m unsure whether new-to-SMB4 traits like “elite forkball” make the pitch fast enough to merit an exception to this rule. I’m experimenting to find out.
- Hitters are more likely to chase outside the zone high and low than inside or outside. So pitches that are slightly above or below the zone are better than pitches that are slightly inside or outside the zone.
- In MLB, most pitchers throw fastballs high and off-speed stuff low (most of the time). This is because MLB pitchers have high-spin fastballs that fool the hitter by rising, forcing the hitter to swing under the ball. This doesn’t work in SMB because the game tells the hitter exactly where the pitch is going. So it’s best to throw all pitches to all parts of the zone, to avoid getting predictable.
- In situations where steals are possible (fast runner and/or bad catcher arm), vary the pitcher’s timing. This is much more important than how frequently you do pickoffs.
How hitting works When you swing, the game makes a decision about whether the swing made contact with the ball. If you make contact, the game decides how hard you hit it and where. You'll hit and pitch a lot better if you understand how the game makes those decisions:
- If you swing to late or too early, you whiff.
- If your “I’m aiming the bat here” cursor is too far away from the “the pitch is here” indicator, you whiff.
- The hit will go faster if the pitch is closer to the middle of the zone (THIS MAKES MORE OF A DIFFERENCE THAN ANYTHING ELSE ON THIS LIST). Corner strikes get a hit speed penalty. Pitches outside the zone get a big penalty.
- The hit will go faster if your “I’m aiming bat here” cursor is closer to the “pitch is here” indicator.
- The hit will go faster if you use power swing (never use contact swing).
- The hit will go faster if you push down the power swing button right before the pitcher releases the ball (push it down earlier for lower velo pitchers or lower egos).
- The hit will go faster if you release the power swing button at the correct time (not too early or too late). You will need to release it later for slow pitches (low velo pitcher and/or low velo pitch type).
- If your “I’m aiming bat here” cursor is above the “the pitch is here” indicator, you hit a grounder (this is bad).
- If your “I’m aiming the bat here” cursor is below the “the pitch is here” indicator, you hit a fly ball (this is good, so you should have the “I’m aiming here” cursor in the bottom half of the strike zone while waiting for the pitch).
How to manage pitchers - Plan to pull starter in 2nd or 3rd inning in 5 inning game.
- Plan to pull starter in 4th-6th in 9 inning game.
- Pull starter earlier than usual (less than two innings in 5 inning game, 4 innings in 9 inning) if the starting pitcher has bad stats (later if they’re good).
- Pull starter earlier than usual if you have good relievers (later if they’re bad).
- If you have a bad starter and good relievers, or a good starter and bad relievers, plan to use the good half for about 4 innings and the bad half for about 1 (6/3 in 9 inning game).
Which traits are most or least important? - Power is important.
- Contact is nice to have but not important.
- Speed is important for outfielders.
- High-speed, low-fielding OFs are better than low-speed, high-fielding OFs.
- High-speed, low-arm OFs are better than low-speed, high-arm OFs.
- This is especially important in parks where the distance to the fence is far (more space for OFs to cover).
- Speed is nice to have but not important for non-outfielders.
- Catcher arm is only important against high-ego, high-speed-stat opponents.
- Low-ego players will frequently not steal even if the catcher’s arm sucks.
- Low-speed-stat teams can’t steal regardless.
- Pitcher velo is important.
- Pitcher junk is not important. High junk might even be a bad thing against high-ego hitters: they will NOT be fooled by pitch movement, and the extra movement makes it easier for hitters to identify the pitch type quickly.
- Pitcher accuracy is important, but not as important as pitcher velo.
- In PR, avoid teams that have good relievers and good starters.
- You’ll have crappy position players, and at the end of the game you’ll have a bunch of good relievers you never got to use (or if you use all your relievers then you only got one inning from your really good starter).
- In PR, avoid teams that have bad relievers and bad starters.
- You can’t spend all those extra points on power, so you’ll have to spend some points on things that don’t matter as much (contact, speed, fielding).
How to build a lineup - Refer to which traits are important, above, to decide who starts and who’s benched.
- Other than that, decisions don’t matter very much.
- Try to alternate left/right/left/right hitter handedness.
- If you have too many lefties in a row, they can bring in a lefty reliever to face them.
How to do rundowns Hold the ball longer than you think you should. If you throw it too early, the runner can turn toward the thrower and will be safe. It’s super common for lots of players (even for me) to throw it too early, it’s rare to throw it too late.
Hardware choices Ethernet is better than wifi. Powerline adapters are great, I use one (
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B084CZMYNM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1). I think low-latency screen makes a difference but I haven’t tested this so I don’t know how much it matters, if at all. PC is better than console because of higher screen refresh rates. I use an Nvidia 1070 graphics card which is 7 years old, that worked great for SMB3 but seems to drop frames occasionally on SMB4. I’m gonna experiment with going to lower graphics settings to see if that fixes the problem, but it’s mostly fine. Point is you don’t need an expensive GPU to run this. Obviously this is all dependent on your budget, don’t miss your rent because I told you to get a sick monitor or whatever.

2023.06.09 19:10 GioS32 Ninja Woodfire Grill (I know. Not a traditional smoker/grill) - great sub to my 5 yr old Woodwind for small cooks
| I’m a long time Woodwind owner. Household of 3, and find we only use it for smoking the occasional ribs, chucks - brisket style, once in a long while briskets, pulled pork, and some packaged corned beef for pastrami. I often do smoked and reverse seared steaks, burgers, and sausages/hot dogs. Setup for these is fairly long and the smoke flavor is there, but not extreme. Even when using a smoke tube. So I’ve researched this thing and finally found a good package at Sam’s that came with the griddle attachment for $299. It’s more of an outdoor convection oven with a pellet smoker attachment, when comparing to my Woodwind. HOWEVER, for the small 1/4 to 1/2 cup of pellets it uses, it’s given super intense smoke flavor to burgers and reverse seared steaks I’ve done on it. It’s small, but a good alternative for small households and definitely worth it for me. I don’t plan on blowing $2-3K+ on the current stock of premium pellet/hybrid smokers to get a better experience than my Woodwind. Very good alternative if you’re looking for convenience and smokiness for the small cooks! submitted by GioS32 to pelletgrills [link] [comments] |
2023.06.09 19:10 sinfull_littlegirl My monster in law gets mad because we visited my parents for 30 minutes
I a 23 year old, female and my fiancé 22 year old male are due you to be married by the end of 2023. We have been together for 4 years. There have been many occasions where my mil has chosen not to include me or go against what I have to say. She has bipolar and fiancé doesn’t like his mom. He’s the 3rd oldest out of 4 boys. But besides the changing plans last minute for holidays even though my parents communicated to her what their plans were weeks in advance this incident makes me so angry. My fiancé and I went to my parents house for breakfast on a Sunday because it had been a few months since me and my fiancé got to visit. We stayed for maybe 30-45 minutes at my parents house and I had to get to work. My work let me go home early so I went home to my fiancé and he said wanna go out to dinner I said absolutely. We got in the car and as we were driving we got a call from bil “where are you guys? Are you coming to dinner?” My fiancé said “ummm op and I are heading to dinner now did you have something planned?” My bil said “well yeah family dinner is always on Sunday, moms not gonna be happy!” My fiancé then said “you guys always have “family dinners” on Sunday when op has to work we keep asking if we can do them on Friday so she can be included but moms not budging. Op and I are going to dinner because she got off work early if mom has a problem she can call me” and he hung up. Not even 5 seconds later my mil calls him and screams “ what so her family gets to see you and I don’t do you know how that makes me feel…” my fiancé says “mom we went to breakfast for 30 minutes! I haven’t seen them in over a month I see you at least 3 times a week. Don’t yell at me or get mad because I’m spending time with ops family it’s wasn’t a big deal! Because you are acting this way I’m not coming over for a while, if you can’t respect op and I then you need to reevaluate yourself!” It was silent for a minute then she said in a pissed off sassy voice “ so I guess your not coming to dinner then! Fine” and she hung up my fiancé looked over at me and he said “see this is what I mean. She’s a ct” I said “I wished she liked me” my fiancé pulled into the restaurant and said “I know you do but I want you to know that no matter what she says to you it doesn’t matter I love you don’t listen to ct” he only calls his mom this no one else

2023.06.09 19:09 TheSettingEarth How does a 9 feel strong emotions and take action again?
The 9's suffering is always nearly quiet. It amps in intensity over time.
Disquiet lingers in the background. Sometimes I find things to do and do them, but I never really wanted to do them. This won't do. I want out.
My thoughts are less insightful now and my concentration worsened. I usually like to understand others' arguments and explain my own, but now I have a slow mind. This makes me respect myself less. I disappear from private message discussions, I admit only the feeling of responsibility forces me to reply.
w1 critiques my state, as if it appraised the value of an object. Now it's composed. In the past it had emotional charge. It was a fiery critic which angered me to do things. Some people also inspired me to be more like them. I used to fight the 9 pattern with this aversion and desire combined.
There is one thing I want to do, if I access and stir up my emotions. It deals with a lifelong theme, so it would be real growth if I face it. That aside, I don't detect anything I truly fear or desire.

2023.06.09 19:09 apokaleeps Dogs variety, protection, training & more!
| This request is about adding dog variety or even breeds (for instance : a husky for cool biomes) into Minecraft. They would spawn near from villages just like cats and could be villagers' friends. Also, as they are currently pretty vulnerable, we could craft or find them armors just like horses to protect them from harm and we could craft them placeable bowls we could fill so they can heal whenever they ache. This would come with adding animations for dogs just like cats. Finally, adding the possibility to train them and assign them roles : patrolling around the village / house, hunting near wild animals, stop hunting sheeps, following the player, etc. I think this would be very cool to see those changes and that they would bring even more life and complexity into Minecraft. Personally killing animals and seeing my dog die makes me pretty sad as I think they're cute, so I am afraid of losing my dog anytime I get one. Maybe cats could be trained to so we can ask them to patrol, stop hunting chickens, follow the player... 2023.06.09 19:09 YourWifeyBoyfriend Found a commercial property wanting some advice.
I was looking for properties near me and couldn’t find anything but I found 14 acres in will county Illinois, tinley park.
There’s no back taxes, the price is basically a used car, I’ve found it last sold in 2018 for $3500 and it’s $5800 now including closing fees… this was an auction.
There’s no tax obligation yet on the space, it’s just 14 acres sitting with everything around it developed for the most part. There’s been no tax obligation for 5 years and it’s able to be looked up on the county website.
Basically I don’t have a mentor and anyone I mention the idea to asks why I want to buy it and isn’t satisfied with asking what better way can you think of $5800 as an investment?
Looking up average price per acre shows $10,000 in Illinois.
So in theory I should own this land and just wait 10 years and someone will want it, the risk is there becomes a tax obligation but the history is no obligation
Anyone with any thoughts please comment. Thanks.

2023.06.09 19:08 CreepySleepyJoe List your top 5 places for wings
I’ve seen a handful of posts on this subreddit in the past where people typically list their favorite wing place with little to no description about what makes them great. I figured this would be a great way to not only see the different variations that we all have with one another in a particular order, but for people to also check out amazing places that are good and local spots to you. I’ll start out with mine: 1. Charlie’s (Somers Point): Great local bar with the best wings I’ve ever had, hands down. They’re always perfectly fried to be just crispy enough on the outside while soaking up the sauce perfectly, and they’re always moist on the inside. Good sized wings, nice lineup of sauces to choose from (tail gun is perfect), and they always come out piping hot. I come here all year round since I spend the majority of my time in Margate, but it’s worth the commute if you live far away or if you spend the day around Ocean City. 2. Dominic’s Tavern (Bellmawr): I have to say, their wings are exceptional. They’re big and meaty with great flavor, and they’re crispy while still absorbing the sauce. Their fat daddy sauce is the best wing sauce around, and I can’t rave enough about how good that sauce is. Personally, I like the way the bread them by applying it as a light and thin coating, but if breading is a problem then just ask for the wings to be naked. 3. The Golden Nugget Tavern (Berlin): Classic country dive bar with live country music and incredible wings. They’re average size but the crispiness is just right. Their traditional sauce is really good, it’s a great combination of slight sweetness and spiciness, but not over the top in either category. Wednesdays and Thursday nights they also have all you can eat wings for $16.00, pretty solid deal. I can only recall one time where I thought the wings were just okay (they were small, too crispy, and not hot), but other than that they’ve been exceptional. 4. Pic-A-Lilli Inn (Shamong): The fame for their wings is well deserved. The size of them may be slightly smaller, so they’re very crisp and not too greasy or fatty. They’re sauces are amazing and they have a wide variety to choose from, I would say that the sauces are a little better than Golden Nugget. Wednesdays they also have all you can eat wings for $15.00. This place can be a hike for many people, but trust me you won’t regret it. 5. The Jug Handle Inn (Cinnaminson): A great hometown dive bar with that “uncle’s basement” feel, and the wings are to die for. They’re really big, crispy, and juicy, and packed with flavor. Heard good things about the Tony Bruno sauce and I’m looking forward to trying it out in the near future, but they also have a ton of great flavors to choose from. I also want to point out that the wings are breaded if breading isn’t your thing.
Honorable mentions: Pine Hill Tavern, Buffalo Bills Barbecue, Chegg, and P.J. Whelihan's Pub.
Places I want to try: Doyles Pour House, Dolsot House, Wing It, and Sharky’s.

2023.06.09 19:07 Expert-Giraffe9241 I (M17) am concerned about my younger brother (M12) and need help on how to think things
So I am writing this post for some advice on how to treat/ encounter my little brothers actions, because right now, I don't know what to do and am stuck. For context, me and my (6th grade) little brother have been close in our earlier years when life didn't take its course and force me to move on to growing up while leaving him behind. I always feel bad whenever I think of this but it just had to happen. We're still close but it's always "im busy" or " I dont want to play right now" half the time he asks.
But, over the years i've noticed that he's gotten more stubborn than usual. I dont mean this in a condescending way but im just afraid that it's going to carry on throughout his life. For example, about a year or two ago, there was an issue concerning his phone. He ended up breaking the screen to the point where it broke through the screen protector and had the actual screen looking like it was supposed to be the screen protector and had been using it for months. Mind you, he didn't tell me, my siblings, or my parents that this has happened with his phone and has just been using it this way with no mind to it. I'm pretty sure I was the first to confront him about this and when asked "why didn't you at least tell anyone that your phone was like this", his response was "its not your phone so why do you care about it so much" or "if its not bothering me, why are you bothered by it" or "its mine so why do you care about it". I don't really care about what he said even though it was in a sassy tone, but more about the message behind it, because now it just looks like he doesn't even care about things.
A few more events like the previously mentioned one happened a bit more frequently after that. He got a nintendo switch for his birthday in december last year. Over the months he started to get more games on it by asking my sister to take him to gamestop. I would usually play with him when he asked this time as I wasn't really busy around this period and ended up developing a liking to the Super Smash Bros game he had. I would play it on my own sometimes when he wasn't using and more than half the time willing to play it with him when asked. After a bit of time though, I ended up not playing for a while and kind of lost interest because of school again. A few weeks ago I wanted to just try it for a bit to see if I still had some interest in it and asked him where the game card was to put in the switch. All his response was "Oh I don't know where it is". I was asking him questions like "do you atleast know where you last had it?" or "can you atleast try to remember some hot spot areas you might have played the game near" or "at least give me somewhere I can look so I can look for it for you" and he just started to get irritated and getting angry saying that he doesn't know where it is, but you could kind of tell that he wasn't even trying to think of a place or help, or maybe that was just from my perspective.
I'm just concerned about my little brother because now it looks like he just doesn't show interest in things, would sometimes steal things like food and lie about it, used to straight up lie about things even though caught in the act, (maybe) doesn't really acknowledge consequences to his actions, and basically doesn't do anything other than watch youtube videos and play on the computer all day. I don't want to end up controlling and demanding like my parents towards him nor aggressive and mostly angry at him like my older siblings, but I don't want to just ignore some of these actions and don't know how to carry on from here. And even though sometimes he does get pretty annoying and acts weird sometimes, I try not to be rude or just brush it off as this is his childhood and these are things that hes going to remember. He's definitely a smart kid, always scoring high on tests, but I'm just scared that he's going to be lost through these every day acts and end up losing the bond with him.

I could only sit there, waiting. “What do you mean, not alone?” Aedan whispered at last. His face was pale, but he shook his head, eyes narrowing. “I don’t-” “Just what it sounds like,” Recluse said heavily. He squeezed his hands against each other, glancing back through the window. “First noticed it a few decades after figurin’ all this out,” he said, waving a hand toward the house. “After everything started. Even then, I didn’t really know what it was. Just a shadow out there in the night. A set of eyes, watching when I slept. I could tell it was there, and I could tell it was very big, very old. Felt it when it moved near me. Like the air was shifting.” He shook his head again, going very still. “A ripple in the currents beneath me.” Aedan opened his mouth, but hesitated. Our eyes met. There was a question in the look, but I shrugged helplessly. How the hell was I supposed to know what to ask? Recluse let his breath hiss out, though, shifting once again. “It was a subtle enough thing I didn’t notice more than that for a long time.” “So you investigated,” Aedan said. “Best I could, I tried to,” Recluse said. He shrugged. “I could see the writing on the wall. I didn’t know all the details just then, but your Legion bitch was already working on her secrecy plan, and the other blood demis were happy enough to fall into line behind her. You remember how it was back then.” Aedan grimaced. “Don’t I just.” “Wait, that was Anke?” I said. “I didn’t-” Cailyn shot me a look over Amber’s shoulders. The shut up there was clear. I shut up. “Point is, when I felt something else out there, I wasn’t disinterested,” Recluse said, flashing a look my way. “I needed to keep my wits about me, with the bloody bastards running wild and trying to lay their law. If there was an enemy lurking right in my backyard, I needed to know that.” “So you went looking,” I said “Like I said,” Recluse said. “Best I could.” He wrinkled his nose. “Wasn’t sure where to start. How do you find a feeling? But I kept trying to…I don’t know, precisely.” He shrugged, drooping. “Steer this ship toward them, when they got close. Reach across the dry lines.” “But they’re another blood demi,” Cailyn said. “Weren’t you trying to keep your distance? If you got mixed up with them, you might-” “Die?” Recluse said, starting to laugh again. His shoulders rocked with mirth. “Not here, girl. I wasn’t afraid.” His smile splintered, his eyebrows rising for a moment. “Maybe I should’ve been, but I wasn’t. Never met a mage who could challenge me here.” He groaned, making a face. “I searched in the lines for a few decades. When I couldn’t find them there, I tried looking outside. Ran through the front door anytime I felt it close. Nothing.” “So it’s not actually close to you,” I said. Recluse shook his head. “If I couldn’t find it out there…I had to look somewhere else. And that didn’t leave me many options.” He stared at the wall for a long moment, eyes misting over. And then he stood, shoving himself from the couch. We sat motionless as he stalked past, coming to a stop in front of the dancing, glimmering darkness out the window. This time he stayed silent for a long, drawn-out minute, one finger tap-tapping against his arm. “I found a brewer,” he said at last, still gazing out into the void. “I’d heard of a few demis by then, ones who could walk in other planes. The ones who stepped between the layers of reality, finding their own paths.” I nodded, keeping my tongue still. Like Martin, my thoughts willed, though. Maybe like Cailyn, too. Recluse pursed his lips, frozen like a statue. “I could feel it there, when I went under,” he said. “And I knew it could feel me too. Felt it stronger than ever, like eyes on the back of my neck. And…the power of it.” He started to shake his head, his shoulders rising. “I’ve met many mages over my thousand years. Powerful ones. The cream of the crop.” His fingers tightened against his arm. “I’ve never felt anything like that before, or since.” My skin prickled. The hair on my arms rose, standing on end. Recluse had been nothing but bluster since we’d walked in—but now his voice was low, hushed in a way that conveyed the gravity of the situation more surely than any words. His jaw was tight, his shoulders tense. “What was it?” Aedan said. I jumped, startled at the sound, but quieted myself. Recluse just kept shaking his head, his expression growing harder by the second. “Hell if I know,” he said softly. “I didn’t have the chance to ask. It…” He held a hand out before him as if inspecting it, fingers outstretched. “It turned on me,” he said. “Don’t really know what happened. I’m not sure I can explain it. I just know that one minute I was floating through the world, with that feeling of that thing hanging at the back of my mind, and then…it was right there. It was everywhere, all around me. Like I was drowning in magic. Like I’d never be able to come up for air again.” His lips parted gently, his eyes staring blankly out into empty space. He reached out, fingers still spread wide, until his fingertips pressed against the glass of the window. “Thought I was dead,” he said, the words little more than a whisper. “I knew then I’d flown too close to the sun. I’d woken up something old, and now it was going to destroy me, when I’d grown very used to being indestructible.” Taking a long, shuddering breath, he chuckled, no amusement in the sound. “That would be when I started bargaining,” he said, closing his eyes. “Promised a lot, back then, trying to get that magic to spit me out. I’d carved out my own little place in the world, and I tried to use that to save myself. Nothing I said seemed to stop it.” “So how did you stop it?” Aedan said, as low and hushed as Recluse. “Oh, it wasn’t anything so methodical,” Recluse said, giving a short, quick shake of his head. “I was just about hitting the point of panic. Couldn’t get out, and it felt like every second that passed, I got pulled in a little deeper. Maybe that’s what did it.” He let another hiss out, arching an eyebrow. “I promised I’d leave, and leave it be. I’d give them the same privacy I was after. Promised I wouldn’t look back.” With one last shake of his head, Recluse took his hand from the glass, turning back to face us. “It stopped,” he said. “But I heard a woman speak. She said, I know you. And she said my name.” His hand rose, clenching. “My real name. The one not a damn fool out there should’ve still known. Whoever, whatever she was, it was like she was right there, staring straight down into my soul.” He chuckled, then, ducking his chin. The moment loosened around us. “And then it let me go,” he said. “That ripple drifted off down the river, and I stayed behind. Damn sure wasn’t going to go hunting off after it again.” Shifting from foot to foot, he straightened at last, staring Aedan right in the eye. “I kept my promise,” he said. “Whatever, whoever that was, I let her be. And if I were you, I’d do the same.” “I mean, I might not go diving off on a magical drug trip after her,” Aedan said. “But I do really need to talk.” “Enough to risk your death?” Recluse said. Aedan shrugged. “With how I work? I’d get better.” For all Aedan’s bluster, there was a nervous note in his voice, and he kept fidgeting in his seat. I understood the sentiment. Aedan should be safe from whatever got thrown at him, but this Recluse fellow was another blood demi, just like him—I was pretty sure—and he’d gotten spooked. That took some doing. Recluse eyed him sidelong, but only chuckled. “Suppose that’s your funeral to choose,” he said. “Just don’t say I didn’t warn you.” “We’d still have to find a way to talk to it,” I said. I leaned forward, bracing my chin on one propped-up hand. “If that woman was another blood demi, if she was the source of the magic, she’s got to be out there somewhere. Someone has to know about her.” “Hard to stay secret for a thousand years,” Mason squeaked, pale as a ghost. My thoughts raced, even as I nodded along. Whoever our mystery demi was, she was strong. Really strong. That was a bit nerve-wracking, especially since according to Recluse’s story she didn’t seem particularly friendly, but it could also be our solution to the Madis problem. We needed someone really, really strong. All we had to do was convince her we were friends, not targets to be smothered out of existence. “I don’t think so,” Recluse said. I looked up, as did everyone else. “What?” I said. He gestured toward me. “Calling that a blood demi. I’m not so sure about it.” “Really?” I said. My brow furrowed. “I just…why? What else could she be?” “Something felt…different, when I was trapped in that bottomless pit,” Recluse said. “I’ve worked a fair bit of magic in my day. Had to.” He patted the wall of his house again. “This didn’t feel the same. It was…colder. Crisper. Like a splash of cool water to the face when you’ve been mired up in a godforsaken swamp.” He grimaced. “Or, well, a waterfall down your throat. It wasn’t the same, is all I know.” The magic was different. I glanced to Amber, my heart catching in my throat, and was rewarded by the victorious light in her eyes. She’d caught it too—that echo of what our unwilling finder had said. No doubt remained in my mind now. This was our target. The end was in sight, I was sure of it. “Thank you,” I said at last, looking up. When Recluse glanced to me, an amused smile on his lips, I nodded. “This is a huge help. I think…we can get moving again from here.” “How?” Mason said. “I don’t-” “C’mon,” Amber said, elbowing him gently. “We’ll figure it out, and we’ve got-” “I don’t believe I stuttered before,” Recluse said. All traces of amusement bled from his face, leaving him cold as he glared at Amber. “I don’t want to hear another word, or else I’ll cast you back out with the other filth.” Amber went still. Her lips flapped—and she shut her mouth, drawing back. “Hey,” I said, slipping a reassuring arm around her shoulders. “Amber is here with us.” “She’s with me,” Aedan said, flashing an annoyed look my way. “I vouched for ‘em. She’s a bit of a bitch, but she’s not totally horrible.” “Wow, Aedan,” I said. “I can see it in her,” Recluse said. “She’s got that same air about her. She’s got blood on her hands.” “So do I,” Aedan said. “What, you don’t?” Recluse turned that gaze of his back on Aedan, letting out a long-suffering sigh. “Not like them,” he said, each word slow and deliberate. “And I’ll have you know I’m a pacifist.” “You’ve been threatening to kill someone since we walked in,” Aedan said. He thrust a finger toward his shoe, scowling. “You nearly took my foot off.” “It looks fine to me,” Recluse said. I clapped a hand over my mouth at the look on Aedan’s face. Oh, after an eternity of having to put up with the bastard, I might finally get to see him take a little of what he loved handing out. And the sight was delicious. “Asshole,” Aedan mumbled. He looked up, though, locking eyes with Recluse. “Really, though. My friend is fine. She’s here with me. Can’t you just-” “Fine,” Recluse snapped. He stood, towering over us. Everyone quieted. “You can talk,” he said, eyeing Amber sidelong. “But keep a civil tongue in your mouth, else I’ll cut it out.” “Real peaceful, you,” Cailyn mumbled. When she earned a sharp-eyed glare of her own, she sniffed, scooting over closer to Mason. When Recluse turned for a doorway deeper into the house, though, Aedan stood, a little tentatively. “Should, ah…Should we go?” he said. “I really appreciate you-” “Sit,” Recluse said—and glanced back over his shoulder, grinning at him. “The business is done, now, and you’ve already woken me up. I can’t get that sleep back.” “Sorry,” Aedan said, wincing. “It’s no trouble,” Recluse said, though, his voice softening. My confusion only grew with every word he said. “Like I said. I owe you at least this much.” “I…was going to ask about that,” Aedan said. “Why? You seem…” He hesitated for a moment, seeming to roll something around in his mind, but raised an eyebrow and plowed ahead anyway. “You seem kind of fuckin’ weird about me, and I don’t know why. Anke seemed to know something, but I’ve got no goddamn clue what’s going on here.” “She didn’t say anything?” Recluse said. Aedan shook his head. “Not a word.” “Figures,” Recluse said. He nodded begrudgingly, then started back toward the door. “Well, I suppose I should explain myself, then.” “I just-” “I’ll make us some coffee.” Ignoring Aedan’s protests, he swept out of the room. Aedan stopped mid-sentence, mouth still hanging open. “Crap,” he said, deflating. “I guess we’re waiting,” I said. “Unless you want to try bailing on the guy.” Amber groaned. “Great.” With nothing else for it, I sat back, thoughts whirling, and tried to make sense of what we’d heard as the smell of coffee started to waft through the living room. submitted by Inorai to redditserials [link] [comments] |

2023.06.09 19:04 Kai_hay AITA for finally telling my aunt how I feel?
So, I'm using a new account since my family knows my usual one, I'll also not be using real name's for my family since I don't want this to be traced back to me.
Anyway, My name is Kai. I'm a 17y/o afab who has Autism and has been getting tested for absence seizures(this is important I swear-). My mum lost custody of me when I was 5 and I was placed in the care of my aunt... let's call her Sophie, by that point my mum and dad had split up and my aunt had started dating my dad (don't ask why, even I don't know) but they split when I turned 8... I can't really remember much about growing up, all I know is that I was basically a carer for my aunt Sophie, I was the one that did all the cooking, cleaning and laundry. I have been doing that since I was 9, so for the past 6 or so years I guess. Within the last 2 or so years I've been suffering with a major Autistic shut down. My body has been refusing to do what I want it to and I end up procrastinating everything so much to the point its too late when I get to do it. I dropped out of high-school because as I said, I'm basically my aunt Sophie's carer, there was even a point of time that we had barely any food in the house and no internet for nearly 2 years of my life because she was (and still is) addicted to weed marijuana), since I started college in January I've finally been trying to do things for myself, trying to have fun and make some friends, but my aunt Sophie seemes to be getting more and more argumentative with me, screaming and throwing things at me, saying how it's my falt that she's the way she is because I "just don't listen to her", and how "I just rip the piss out of time" despite the fact that I've been having something like memory blocks(little gaps in my memory) 2 times a day, like I don't even know what I've been doing at all, I have no memory of it. Anyway I'm getting side tracked sorry.
So anyway, I finally snapped and told her how I feel and she started screaming at me, calling me a liar and saying "your not stupid, you know what your doing" despite telling her multiple times that I have no control over the gaps I'm my memory.. so I told my other family members, some were pissed off, my older sister especially, she has been saying a lot of negative things about our family aswell but I don't know if I fully believe her, but now my aunt Sophie had been getting phone calls from them, some are agreeing with her, some agreeing with me, some are believing her lies about me though, but my mental health worker is saying I did the right thing, since I started telling my aunt Sophie 'no' though she's been threatening to kick me out, so redditers I ask you
Am I the asshole for telling my aunt Sophie hoe I have been feeling lately?

2023.06.09 19:03 GreenUserper Tuning switches that make sense! The Kiwi Ears Quartet
| OVERALL POINTS Aspects | Points | Tonality | 4/5 | Technicality | 3.5/5 | Build and Quality | 4/5 | Aesthetics and Feel | 4.5/5 | Overall | 4/5 | Review OF The Kiwi Ears Quartet https://preview.redd.it/0zevmg0yw05b1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6181e45886b3d7093f5cca8e3df568a514716f10 Introduction Recently, Kiwi Ears has surprised me, particularly with the release of Orchestra Lite, one of the best contenders for IEMs under $300. The China-based company introduced its first IEM model, the Orchestra, in 2021. After that, they went dormant until the release of the Orchestra Lite, their second IEM model, which was well-received. I was smitten by their tuning and sound after just one listen. By introducing the Kiwi Ears Quartet, they have now also debuted in the IEM market for $150 and under. And today I'll be reviewing the Quartet, but first let's get a few things straight. https://preview.redd.it/vesvyanyw05b1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e6fe524a6c931acfecc8db94b8f27abedb3c3ec3 Disclaimer *Since this unit tour was organised by the kindly people at Linsoul, I am grateful to them. And as I've said in all of my evaluations, the same is true for this one: all of the concepts I've expressed below are entirely my own, original ideas that haven't been influenced by anyone else. If interested, go to this link. *I am not associated with the connection, and I receive no financial assistance from anyone. *For the remainder of the review, I will refer to these IEMs as "Quartet." *I am using different Ear-tips for convenience and better versatility. *Finally, I will only evaluate the Quartet based on their performance, even though I will explain how it feels and seems physically and aesthetically. Specification Four drivers, two balanced armatures and two dynamic drivers, make up the quartet's hybrid configuration. A custom mid-high frequency BA, an ultra-high tweeter BA, and two 10mm titanium dynamic drivers acting as subwoofers are all included in The Quartet. The dynamic drivers are both arranged in an isobaric pattern. The shells are extremely lightweight because they are made of medical-grade resin. The pattern on the Quartet shells, which covers the entire body and features their logo on the faceplate, looks absolutely stunning. The cable has a straight 3.5mm plug on one end and a detachable 2 pin connector on the other. The cable is a superior silver-plated, oxygen-free cable. The package includes everything that was also included with the Kiwi Ears Orchestra Lite, excluding the cable and IEM. Three different types of eartips in various sizes are included in the package, along with a carrying case. The sensitivity is 110dB, and the impedance is 32 Ohms, according to the technical specifications. The range of the frequency response is 20Hz to 20kHz. https://preview.redd.it/nhotz25zw05b1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=64f258d3739c80975e6a173457e4e0733cda018e Sound This type of tuning for an IEM is unusual; to be more precise, the Quartet uses a balanced tuning but not quite in the way that one would expect a balanced tuning to sound like. I agreed that this is very differently tuned and sounds amazing after listening to it for a longer period of time than I typically give time to IEMs. I initially thought that this IEM had a very generic tuning and that there were better options for a charismatic experience, but the more you listen to it, the more you realise how well it is tuned to your preferences. This IEM really makes sense of using the tuning switches, especially where I find IEMs with tuning switches to be lacking. There are significant changes in two of the combinations, which makes the mid range forward or laidback. The intimate presentation of the sound makes it sound very revealing even though the presentation is not very broad and far. The treble appears expansive and crisp with no loss of detail, and the midrange can sound either forward or laidback depending on the settings you have made, which will be covered in more detail later in this review. The bass is prominent and has a significant amount of mixing power. Although I will go into detail in the treble, midrange, and bass sections, I will first review it with the stock configuration, which is both switches off. https://preview.redd.it/ba82j1rzw05b1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cef1fd98cb67ef19cd0e3e80cfac75d98fbb3773 Treble Regarding the treble, it extends well but doesn't appear to sound particularly airy or light despite being active and detail-oriented with good exposure in the mix. primarily because the details are coming at you from every angle. It doesn't sound metallic or sharp, but the upper treble really brings out the details in the mix, giving the vocals a crisp, clean sound and giving instruments like the clarinet and cymbals a sparkly, vibrant sound. Both the vocals' nature and the nature of the instruments don't distort in the extension. While the vocals and instruments become playful without obstructing any of their spaces, the upper treble lacks an airy presentation and instead sounds filling. Even though the upper treble response is not smooth, it makes an effort to avoid sounding unbalanced, especially given the energy coming from the lower treble. Speaking of the lower treble, it has the same vibrant approach as the upper treble and sounds very energising. The instruments sound more detailed but don't come out as very fulfilling sounding, and I might also say the same for the male vocals as well. This is primarily because of the influence of bass in the mix, specifically how the bass is tuned. The vocals bring up more of their presence, especially female vocals. The presentation is still enjoyable to listen to despite the mastery of the notes that brings out the best in both the vocals and the instruments in the lower treble. IEMs like Dunu Kima and Salnotes Dioko sound more lively, expressive, and airy when compared to the Quartet, but they also sound more metallic and slightly offensive in response. The details either became very expressive and sound less airy or they sound very airy while losing out on higher frequency. Overall, the treble region is presented in a non-offensive, detail-oriented, and vivid manner. Mid Range Regarding the mid range When I first heard the forward presentation, I was taken aback because when I looked at the FR graph, it primarily represented a laid-back mid range. However, the more I dug into it, the more I understood. Therefore, despite what the graphs might suggest, the mid range is not suppressed or lax. This is caused by the tuning, which makes the bass more pronounced and the treble less prominent. The fact that the mid range is forward has significantly altered how I hear it. The upper mid range has the same amount of energy as the lower treble, but the instruments and vocals sound more dense and authentically reproduced. The instruments sound more rounded and complement the vocals along the mix while the vocals themselves have a nice forward presentation. The vocals are vivid and dense rather than overly energising, and the instruments sound clear and distinct with good note weight. Although the vocals have a good sense of space, they sound constrained and prevented from being open. The lower midrange has a rich, clear sound, and the note weight and density are ideal for adding warmth to the upper midrange. Both the vocals and the instruments have a clear response; neither sound is drowsy or unsteady. The bass guitar naturally sounds thick and organic. Both regions have incredibly rich and immersive musicality. The tuning is not generic, as I previously mentioned, and the midrange sounds different, but if someone is not satisfied with this response, changing the tuning will make a significant difference with the use of tuning switches. However, the sense of playfulness is still present here as well. The mid range of the Quartet is less open and expressive than IEMs like the Letshuoer Galileo or Dunu Kima, but it sounds much more authentic and tonally appropriate. The mid range region has a forward, clean, and natural sounding presentation overall. Bass The bass surprised me the most; naturally, after viewing the FR graph, I assumed that it would sound very bloated and oppressive, but I was terribly mistaken. The bass is very authoritative because it is well-controlled and has a powerful and noticeable presence. Even though the sub bass is highlighted, the mid range doesn't sound recessed. In the mix, the sub bass and mid bass levels have a similar energy and sound expressive. The sub bass extension has a great punchy presentation and goes down quite deep, giving off a soft sense of rumble in the ear canal. Compared to other IEMs in this price range, the notes sound clearer and better. The notes in the mid bass feel heavy and hit you hard; they have great thick slams and thump in the response. The bass is well controlled and quickly disappears from the mix, which is its best quality. Each component of this area effectively fulfils its function. Although it is undoubtedly not the cleanest bass, it sounds incredibly dynamic and detailed. With this much bass, the bass texture and details are fantastic. IEMs like the Kima and Galileo sound more controlled, detailed, and less overpowering in the mix. Perhaps because of this tuning approach in the bass range, the treble and midrange don't sound as open and airy. The use of the switches, however, does uplift or make the mid range prominent in the mix, which does help with the openness in the higher frequency. Overall, the bass region is presented in a strong, controlled, and authoritative manner. Technical Performance In terms of technical performance, the Quartet holds its own against IEMs in this price range. Although some people might either despise it or love it. Although the soundstage and layering are not as good as with other IEMs, this one sounds immersive thanks to its overall technical prowess. Let's discuss it in more detail now. https://preview.redd.it/tx96awm1x05b1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=50ed65a70eabcfe208b093b9279bb282dd77cae1 Soundstage, Sound Imaging & Separation The depth perception of the stage is the least felt in the mix despite its good positioning, and it doesn't sound very far and wide. Although quite clear and sharp, the imaging could be even better. Every element feels far away and distinct enough to prevent them from messing up the mix, and there is a good sense of direction from where the sound is coming. Speed & Resolution At this price, the resolution is quite impressive because the details are easily accessible, the macro details are illuminating, and the micro details attempt to be as expressive as they can be. However, I believe the details from the Letshuoer Galileo were much better. Additionally, the notes' attack and decay have a rapid pace. Sound Impressions Tuning Switches The midrange becomes more forward in the mix with the OI combination, whereas the other combination makes it less prominent in the mix, giving it variable stages for your preferences, when tuning switches are used for the first time. There is no point in talking about it because the technical performances were nearly identical in all of the combinations. Combination IO When using this combination, the response becomes less energetic in the midrange and treble and becomes more bass-heavy. The treble sounded nearly the same, and the mid range sounded less forward in the mix. Even so, I could still hear less treble in the mix. The bass had a punchier, thumpier sound. This pairing works best when listening to bass-heavy music. https://preview.redd.it/ox8gj123x05b1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4db5fd05254cf39450b8c69bde3981d51d5e2ee5 Combination OI This is the combination I prefer because it has a strong mid-range focus and less bass response. Although the response is almost like a standard combination paired with Hipdac, there is no offensive sound, the response is made more shimmery and sparkly with more prominent vocals and instruments thanks to the upper mid range and lower treble. The bass no longer conveys a sense of presence or influence. Preferable with all genres because it sounds fantastic with any track or genre. https://preview.redd.it/phli5a95x05b1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=27f77dc0f7346412a0e095594ef42b12d0c70f7f Combination II The response was the same after switching to this combination as it was with Combination IO, but the vocals in the midrange were better, with the male vocals sounding more pristine and approachable and the female vocals sounding more expressive. The upper range had the same sensation as the Combination IO. As the mid bass became more prominent, the bass felt more thumpy than punchy. Sounds best while listening to calming and enjoyable music. https://preview.redd.it/ww9jc7r5x05b1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7aa7ee4f87a2f78b20ae7ee41bb728f4ae6f785a Sources Tempotec V6 - When used with the V6, the sound was more soothing and calming than with the other sources. The treble also sounded better, with clearer notes and less offensive characteristics. The mid range was forward and had a musical, organic sound. The bass had a strong, controlled sound. In the upper midrange and lower treble range, there is unmistakable sibilance. The only difference in the technical aspects was how much better the stage and separation felt with more effective open sound. I preferred the pairing most when it was with the V6. https://preview.redd.it/ktkcc8i6x05b1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=04cacb33335ee4c1af2f87d91106fdb1189550cb iFi Hipdac - As the midrange was very active and forward in the mix, the pairing with the Hip Dac sounded more midrange focused. The treble sounded less extensive and more rounded, and the bass sounded a little less powered and less controlled. Since the vocals were so prominently featured in the mix, the openness in sound felt the best out of all the sources. Other technical aspects felt the same, with the exception of the stage, which seemed wider. Although the pairing with the Hipdac was excellent, I still believe that the V6 is probably more to my taste. https://preview.redd.it/17ufog27x05b1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=36eadd1fde90a9ff0f29a7deccedee9e63e6dca2 Megatron - The response was surprisingly clear and transparent when the Quartet and Megatron were combined, with more emphasis on the clarity in the treble region, where it sounded more expressive and detailed with cleaner response. While the bass sounded more textured, controlled, and refined, the mid range sounded the same but with more sharp notes. Sometimes the response at higher frequencies sounded a little offensive, and the timbre took on a more metallic quality. There were no discernible technical differences, other than that the resolution and imaging were clearer. For this IEM, the megatron pairing produced a more pleasing, vibrant, and clear sound. I enjoyed it. https://preview.redd.it/yamshzv7x05b1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5fd13a719c6806be5b132d2dbbb125404581f6dc Tracks Used Luna Haruna - Glory days Luna Haruna - Overfly Rokudenashi - The Flame of Love LMYK - 0 (zero) ORESKABAND - Jitensya Marina Horiuchi - Mizukagami no Sekai RADWIMPS - Suzume Indila - Love Story Indila - Tourner dans le vide Earth, Wind & Fire - September Tom Petty - Free Fallin' Fleetwood Mac - Everywhere Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit Blue Oyester Cult - (Don't Fear) The Reaper Guns 'N' Roses - Sweet Child O' Mine The Police - Every Breath You Take Gojira - Amazonia TV on the radio - Wolf Like Me Bring Me To The Horizon - Can You Feel My Heart Bring Me To The Horizon - sTraNgeRs Avril Lavigne - Dare To Love Me Travis - Love Will Come Through Gotye - Somebody That I Used To Know DJ Shadows - Six Days (Remix) [feat. And even though one might disagree with what I have to say, standard tuning is safe and pleasant to hear. However, these are actually the first IEMs with tuning switches that actually function. I'm delighted to suggest an IEM that can carry multiple tunings to audiophiles who would love to own one. https://preview.redd.it/ed5eu0y8x05b1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1fcddbede04605682610d2e77a16195fe2985d9a submitted by GreenUserper to headphones [link] [comments] |
2023.06.09 19:03 Deep9821 Questions about hairs in weird spot that’s kinda nose kinda upper lip…
| Hi peeps, I posted a question like a week ago related to this topic but I thought I’d kinda specify more so now. I want to grow a bushy stache - ideally I love the idea of doing as little maintenance as possible. As you’ll see on the zoomed in picture, I have some hairs that grow right in the spot that’s kind of nose territory, but kinda upper lip territory. I went back and forth on if I should keep those hairs - which seemed a little like they stuck out awkwardly to me. I notice a lot of posters on this sub post staches where there is a clear separation between their nose and their upper lip. I also notice it looks like some people have super full staches that look like they grow in the spot mine do and are not trimmed. I decided to shave those hairs with the single edge razor on my Gillette razor, trying to minimize hair removal outside of that area I have specified. Looking at it a few days later, it kinda bothers me that I shaved it. So my questions are: - Would you shave that area in limbo to make a very clear separation of nose and lip?
- Do people even notice the hairs that grow from that area in no man’s land? Like notice it and think that person looks unkempt?
- Does my mustache seem like it has any potential?
- I have about 20 days of mustache growth. Should I shave it all and start from scratch? Or should I just let that top part grow in and it will naturally blend in?
- If I should just keep it growing and let it blend in, will it blend in naturally or will I need to use clippers to like trim the whole mustache to an equal length at some point?
- When shaving around the stache, as in shaving the rest of your face - where do you decide to shave like near the stache. What I mean is, do you like lift the stache, and shave any hairs that grow below the ending sides of your lips (where both top and bottom lip grow).
Side question: when you grow a walrus mustache, are you supposed to not trim it at all, hence like the kinda nose kinda upper lip area I reference above? I really appreciate any feedback anyone has. Have a nice weekend! submitted by Deep9821 to Moustache [link] [comments] |
2023.06.09 19:03 juancf87 In light of Ryan Cohen's new role, I came across this article he wrote about his Chewy experience. It gives insight to his determination and vision. It gives me the most bullishness of vibes knowing this person is takings the reigns at GameStop.
The Founder of Chewy.com on Finding the Financing to Achieve Scale
by
Most people assume that the high point of my professional career came on April 18, 2017, when the owners of PetSmart paid $3.35 billion for Chewy.com, the pet retailer I had cofounded six years earlier. No doubt, that day was incredible. It represented the culmination of a dream and a tremendous amount of work. But believe it or not, another handshake—another deal—mattered even more to me.
That one happened on September 26, 2013. I had launched Chewy two years earlier with Michael Day, using our own cash and small loans, but my vision was to build a large business, and I knew that significant capital would be required to finance the growth. We approached dozens of VC firms—I even flew out to Silicon Valley from our South Florida headquarters and went door-to-door on Sand Hill Road explaining how Chewy would succeed by delighting customers and running an ultra-efficient operation. But everyone turned us down.
Larry Cheng at Volition Capital was one of the people we pitched our company to. We first met him in 2012; he was en route to Disney World with his family and agreed to make a quick stop at our office. I remember that he asked me, “Who’s going to take this company to $100 million in sales?” I was 26 and probably looked even younger, but I confidently answered, “I am.” He didn’t invest.
He followed up with us about six months later, though. We’d beaten the sales projections that we’d previously given him, and he was impressed. A few days later he signed off on a $15 million investment in Chewy. The satisfaction of that victory was even greater than the pride I felt following the eventual multibillion-dollar sale. After two years of building Chewy—and more than 100 conversations with VCs that went nowhere—I’d finally found someone who believed in me and our business model. Larry had validated our idea.
From that point on, the mission was larger. I was even more committed to making Chewy an industry leader, because it was no longer just our own money on the line. Larry had gone out on a limb for us. I felt that responsibility.
I approached every subsequent round of financing, including PetSmart’s acquisition, in a similar way—by underpromising and overdelivering on sales. Our mission was straightforward: to build a best-in-class, customer-obsessed pet retailer. We also wanted to leave everyone who’d backed us a winner.
An Early Pivot
I’ve been working since I was 13, when I started building websites for family members and local businesses. From there I moved into affiliate marketing. I met Michael in an online chat room discussing website design and computer programming. We hit it off immediately and started talking about collaborating on a business.
I’d always wanted to build an e-commerce company, so we settled on what we thought was a terrific idea in an industry ripe for disruption: online jewelry sales. We built the website, set up the delivery systems, bought the inventory, and even put a safe in the office to store it.
But about a week before our scheduled launch, I had a revelation. I was in a local pet store with my toy poodle, Tylee, asking the owner about the most healthful food I could buy for her. That’s when it hit me: I was getting into the wrong business. I didn’t care much about jewelry, but like many dog and cat parents I knew, I was passionate about what I bought for Tylee. The pet industry was big and growing, moving from mass market to premium. It was clear that the opportunity was huge.
So although we were only a week away from launching the jewelry business, we pivoted. We sold all the rings, necklaces, and bracelets—and the safe—and started learning everything we could about the pet industry. We built a new website. We found a local distributor and partnered with a third-party logistics company nearby. In June of 2011 we launched. In just three months we went from my epiphany at the pet store to running a pet-supplies business.
We intended to build a best-in-class, customer-obsessed pet retailer. People sometimes ask if I worried about following in the footsteps of Pets.com, in 2000 one of the highest profile failures of the dot-com bubble. I didn’t. For one thing, I was 15 when that company declared bankruptcy, so I wasn’t very familiar with the story. Second, Pets.com existed at a time when most people had dial-up internet and weren’t comfortable making purchases online. By the time we started, e-commerce was second nature for most consumers.
I also got questions about Amazon, and, of course, it was a real competitor. It had an incredible infrastructure, established relationships with customers and suppliers, and endless capital. But I knew that other companies, including Zappos (later acquired by Amazon) and Wayfair, had found success in specific product categories. Their secret was offering a differentiated customer experience. I thought we could do something similar in the pet space.
With limited resources, we served as our own C-suite. I was CEO, Michael was CTO, and my longtime friend Alan Attal was COO. We knew that superior customer service had to be one of our core competencies if we wanted to deliver the same experience I’d had at the neighborhood pet store, so our first priority was building a team to work the phones, live chat, and emails in our call center so that we could stop doing all that ourselves.
From the outset we reinvested all our cash from operations in the business, but eventually we needed the larger pools of money that VC firms offered. After months of searching, we finally found Larry and Volition.
Scaling Up
We closed the series A financing round on October 24, 2013, and I’ll never forget the moment the money hit our bank account. Although we had signed the term sheet, part of me was still skeptical that it was all going to work out. But when I saw the transfer confirmation, it became real.
With that money we could invest in developing the systems, technology, and teams needed to scale up. We could also bring stocking and shipping in-house. We already recognized that if we wanted to create a multibillion-dollar business, fulfillment had to become another core competency.
Consultants had told us that it would take a year and a half to build a warehouse from scratch. But with 300% growth year over year, we didn’t have that much time. The logistics company handling fulfillment couldn’t keep up, so the Chewy customer experience had begun to deteriorate. We needed more control, and fast. We knew we had to make the transition within a few months.
We started scouting potential sites in February of 2014, focusing on the northeastern United States because so much of the country’s population lives there. The location we chose—Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania—would allow us to provide overnight delivery to customers in the densely populated tristate area of Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey. By that summer we’d opened a 400,000-square-foot facility full of bags and cans of dog and cat food, carriers and cages, leashes, litter boxes, toys, and treats.
Although we managed to get up and running in less than six months, it certainly wasn’t easy. Everything that could go wrong did. We couldn’t hire people to work in the warehouse fast enough. When we were finally staffed, the scanner guns would stop working, or the Wi-Fi or warehouse management system would go out. We were tackling issue after issue 24/7 until we worked out all the kinks.
We also focused heavily on marketing. From day one, we invested almost exclusively in direct response ads, so every dollar spent could be tracked—no Pets.com-style Super Bowl commercials for us. We expanded by investing in the team and processes to effectively acquire the right customers at the right cost. Our governor of growth was free cash flow. Our sales more than doubled from $205 million in 2014 to $423 million in 2015.
Our new hires played a big role in scaling up the company. I realized early on that I’d need to use my time efficiently and focus on hiring. At first recruiting was a challenge. Alan and I spent countless hours reaching out to candidates on LinkedIn, explaining how quickly the company was growing and describing what we intended to build, but 98% of them didn’t bother to respond.
Surprisingly, that turned out to be a useful filter. The 2% who did write back were true believers, team players, and business builders who were excited for the opportunity. They all had tremendous heart, fire in their bellies, and a will to win. We hired for passion. Many people quit stable jobs and relocated with their families from across the country to join us. It was a tremendous sacrifice that we never took lightly.
Ultimately we raised six rounds of financing totaling more than $350 million from T. Rowe Price, BlackRock, Greenspring, Lone Pine, Verlinvest, and the investment bank Allen & Company.
The Next Level
Our revenue was $901 million in 2016 and growing 100% year over year. That got us thinking about an IPO for our next round of financing. We had about 7,000 employees and six warehouses, with plans to add another two in the next 12 months. From an operational and strategic perspective, the company was strong.
As we prepped for the IPO, Petco, one of the biggest U.S. pet retailers, approached us about a merger. It couldn’t meet our terms, so we shook hands and parted ways.
In early 2017 PetSmart, Petco’s primary brick-and-mortar rival, also reached out. I received an email from Raymond Svider, a partner and the chairman of BC Partners, the private equity group that had completed its acquisition of PetSmart in March of 2015. He said he was interested in buying Chewy and wanted to talk. We had met previously but didn’t know each other well.
PetSmart was one of our top competitors, so we proceeded carefully. I explained that we were preparing for an IPO, so we expected a certain price in an all-cash, public-style deal. In view of the competitive dynamics, we weren’t going to give away our proprietary information and start a lengthy due-diligence process. I told Svider that if he wanted to make the acquisition, he would need to do it quickly. To his credit, he did. In April of 2017 we signed an agreement to sell the company for $3.35 billion. It was the largest e-commerce acquisition in history.
Our investors were happy too. The early-stage ones made huge gains, and the later-stage ones earned significant money. Investing in Chewy had made a lot of careers, and I’m proud of that. Those investors put their trust in me and my vision, and I repaid them with returns. The same would soon be true for BC Partners and PetSmart.
Chewy’s revenues continued to rise post-acquisition, hitting $3.5 billion in 2018, while its losses narrowed to $267 million. In June of 2019 PetSmart spun Chewy off into a publicly traded company at a valuation near $9 billion, close to three times the sale price only two years before.
I left the company in March of 2018. It wasn’t an easy decision, but I felt I had done all I had set out to do. The company was sound, the foundation strong, and the vision set. But I was no longer in full control. And I didn’t want a boss. I’m a business builder, not a manager. My work was complete.
When I think back to why raising the money to help grow the business was one of the best moments of my life, I realize it’s because the journey was far more exciting than getting to the finish line. I relished the challenges of disrupting an entire industry and trying to delight customers to a degree that had never been achieved before. The excitement I felt from putting together a world-class team of employees and investors, succeeding against all odds, and building a multibillion-dollar retail leader from nothing was unequivocally the greatest of my career.

2023.06.09 19:03 Nobody_Elegant I need help dealing with a situation at work
I don’t use reddit that much, but i really need the advice right now. I’m 19 years old going into my junior year of college, and i have been working at this restaurant when i am home on breaks. The manager that hired me has recently left, so when I came back for the summer to start working, new management has been already in place. The chef of this restaurant practically runs the entire restaurant because of this, and he is legitimately one of the worst human beings on this entire planet. Each and every day, he singles me out and belittles only me infront of absolutely everyone else who works there, making me feel like crap every time i work there. I am very much liked by everyone else in the restaurant as they literally were so happy and excited when I came home from school to start working, and the chef just sat in there and said absolutely nothing with a stupid look on his face. I went up and gave him a friendly greeting and offered a handshake, in which he reluctantly accepted and just said hello and then immediately walked away. I work as a bartendeserver assistant where i take supplementary orders, run drinks and small plates to tables, clear them and just generally help out the customers with everything that they need. The spot where i work is in the upstairs of the restaurant, where there is no running water so all of the dishes i clear from the tables get placed in bins in a closet off to the side so I don’t have to make hundreds if not more trips downstairs to give them to the dishwashers. Yesterday, the bartender broke some glass so I had to pick it up as fast as possible out of the carpet to avoid it being stepped on by the customers and just generally not being a good look. In doing this I ended up cutting my hand pretty badly so it was hard for me to carry down the heavy bins full of dishes, so i asked if the dishwashers could help me out with that. They did and came upstairs and I watched them grab what I thought was everything out of the closet while i was cleaning up the rest of the space, and didn’t think to double check and see if everything was taken. The chef was unaware of this entire situation because frankly if i told him he would’ve screamed at me and turned it in to my fault, which is something i wasn’t really trying deal with after working for almost 11 hours that day. I finished up cleaning and went home. This morning i got my first text in almost a year from the chef, and it’s just a picture of about 10 wine glasses and a small bucket of silverware that were left behind in the closet. I fear that when i go into work today in 2 hours i am going to get an absolute earful for that and want to go into the situation with a response to hopefully tame that behavior and honestly, not get me fired. Any advice? sorry for the long post btw..

2023.06.09 19:02 endersgame69 Adopted By Humans VII C22
Lisa hummed quietly while she worked in her kitchen, maybe it was William’s influence, or maybe Rebecca’s, but she still liked making coffee the old fashioned way. Not that any of them minded using preground beans, but no technology has replaced the power of freshness.
So while I sat waiting for her to return, I simply watched what was already on her screen. It was an animated drama of some sort, maybe horror, there was a demon weeping over a grave at least, could have been anything, really.
And I just listened while she hummed along with the coffee grinder, those things have changed a lot over the years, now they were near totally silent, I saw one in an Earth museum once that made a tremendous racket, but these had only the faintest hum as the beans were reduced to powder.
I didn’t know the tune Lisa was humming, but it felt strange to hear her let out a little tune after I told her I was leaving, and of course I couldn’t know if I’d be coming back.
She and I [Redacted], and we really did like each other, a lot, actually. Of course we both knew it couldn’t last forever, we were quite literally from different worlds, and we wanted different things out of our lives.
But that didn’t mean we couldn’t have something good for a time. I had to wonder if she was thinking about this as the time to let go? Humans have a habit of putting a brave face on things, they have a whole philosophy called ‘stoicism’ which is basically just putting a show of strength on while enduring a lot of unpleasant shit.
I can’t say I liked that philosophy very much, it reminded me too much of my homeworld’s view of things. I suppose it had a valid point when it came to hard times, but it seemed too much to like hard times. At least as I understood it, perhaps I was wrong in that regard. I’m sure the subject will be hotly debated over for years.
Regardless, at that moment I was just enjoying the noise of her preparations, watching out of the corner of my eye while she brewed coffee the old fashioned way. I pause for a moment here to tell you, in addition to the supply of alcohol that went to Dlamias, at my suggestion, Bonny Red also dropped a large supply of coffee off at the neutral trading station where she had to deliver her goods. Along with directions for how to prepare it.
Now, in the capital of Dlamias, I knew for a fact that a small number of ‘coffee bars’ were starting to open up. The stay awake juice was used by a number of government employees to help keep them focused, and… well, in the Earth middle ages coffee was banned in an empire because people stayed up late talking politics while drinking the stuff. Coffee shops became hotbeds of political dissent.
It was one more little monkey wrench I’d thrown into the gears of Dlamisan society. Awake for longer and with time to talk, I had absolutely no doubt that the buried frustrations of my people would start to bubble up as surely as the water was boiling in Lisa’s pot right now.
I know my government, they’ll use the stuff to extend labor hours and keep people working harder, and they’ll put it together with food for convenience…
And my infection will spread. Longer hours, but also time to complain, and with the first humans settling in too…
The dam would burst and change would be forced. I did wonder if they would try to use military force to quell dissent. But I doubted it, especially now. In a way, this danger with the return of the Rogue World and the disappearances and the threats from the Praeda, couldn’t have come at a better time.
Concessions would be the government’s only option, and once that began, there would be no stopping it.
‘Even if I die out there, my will, will be done no matter what.’ I thought, and made the evil finger pyramid of doom with my hands.
Lisa returned a moment later with coffee in hand and a smile on her face. She sat beside me on the couch and asked, “Did you enjoy the show?”
I hadn’t really paid much attention to it, but it seemed alright. “I haven’t seen that much, but… it looks alright.”
“It’s based on an old novel, that demon,” she pointed to the ashen figure, “lost his wife to human invaders, his village, everything but his daughter. This season is based on one of the sequels in that series, he’s finally reclaimed the land where there village was, and he found her body still buried in the rubble of their home. So he had her buried there and all the grief hit him at once, everything he kept buried while he worked to raise their daughter.”
“Oh… so humans are the villains in this one?” I asked.
“Sort of.” She said as she leaned back and slipped her arm over my shoulder from behind while she drank from her glass cup. “Like, the humans started it, they built the first cities and needed labor so they started conquering nomads and villages to work their farms and whatnot. So that’s bad, but not all humans are the bad guys. Some demons are shown as bad, same for some of the elves and dwarves… I guess you could say that their ‘governments’ do bad things to each other.”
“Oh, so everybody is kind of bad sometimes?” I asked.
“Yeah, kinda.” She sipped, “A lot of gray there, most of what happens that’s bad after a certain point, happens because everybody is too afraid to stop. They don’t want to keep fighting, but they’re afraid of what happens if they pull back.”
“That’s interesting.” I said as I brought the cup to my mouth. It was hot, rich, fragrant, the rich steam rose from within and I inhaled it with the vigor of somebody bursting from beneath the water after nearly drowning and finding air again.
I made a mental note to bring some of this with me when it was time to leave, Lisa was quiet, seemingly waiting for me to explain. A lot would be necessarily classified and, reckless as I may be, I knew better than to let things like this slip.
“I’m going on a peace mission, actually, not just me. The whole family is. It’s… complicated, but Bonny Red is taking us to a neutral zone where we can talk to the Praeda, all of them, or most, at least.” I shifted a little in my seat, I didn’t want to tell her how dangerous it might be for us, but I hated keeping secrets.
“Do you know when you’ll be back?” She asked, her wide eyes fluttered a little, “Is this one of those ‘gone for decades and I’ll be an old lady by the time you get back’ talks?”
I snorted my coffee just a little and smacked my chest a few times. “No… I mean I don’t know how long I’ll be gone, but it will take months just to get there, it’s over thirty-thousand lightyears away, so even at the fastest possible speed through thick space, we’re looking at nine months travel without doing any jumps.”
She whistled long and low, “So… what you’re saying is, I’ll need to pack my toothbrush, and a pair of replacement heads for it?” She asked.
“Say what now?” I asked and my ears twitched.
She turned to the side and propped her head up in her hand, then gave me a quirky smile and said, “You’ve got all those ears and still didn’t listen to me? Alien or not, you’re definitely male.” She laughed at her own joke while I could only cock my head in confusion.
“Say what now?” I asked again.
“I want to go too.” She clarified, “Listen, Bonny Red and I have had a nice arrangement going for a while now, but alien or not, I know that woman and she’s definitely planning on spending a lot of time on Earth after all this, she’s been in the void for a few years now and I know how sailors, pirates or not, get when they finally hit a safe port. The easiest thing for all of us is if I just go along. Besides,” she held up her arm and waved one hand around her room, “I don’t really have anything holding me back. I have my degree, my job won’t go anywhere, I can sublet my apartment. And how many people get a chance to go out that far?” She asked.
“Wait, you’re serious?” I asked. I definitely wanted to know what she was talking about when it came to Bonny Red, but the more pressing matter was her thought of coming with us.
“I don’t have to be part of your envoy, I’ll just join her crew for a year or so. I’m no stranger to hard work or military stuff, you know that.” She said.
“Well, I mean, that’s up to Bonny Red, not me… but… why would you…” She stopped me by putting a hand on my chest.
“Because you and I both know this can’t last. You’ll live for hundreds of years, your stages of life are in line with mine right now, but that’s going to change. I’ll grow older, faster, maybe I’ll want to start a family of my own, something we can’t do, but even if I don’t do that, time changes all humans, faster than you know. You saw how Fauve has grown up, right?” She asked.
I could only nod. She was in her twenties now and while there were echoes of the child I knew, she was like a tree that I’d watched grow from a sapling. I could still recognize her for what she’d been, but she was not the same.
“That’s how it will be for me from my twenties to my thirties, and thirties to forties. I’m going to change, I won’t be the twenty-something who gets hammered with her friends on weekends anymore, but you’ll still be the you that you are right now, when I’m old, gray, and thinking ahead for my funeral.” She chuckled, “From my perspective, you’re kind of like if Peter Pan was a college student and not a young boy.”
I only vaguely knew the story, but I got the gist of what she meant, I just didn’t know what to say to it.
“To you, nine months, two years, three years, those may not sound like a lot. To me, they’re big bites out of my life, and when we’re done, those days won’t come back. So, if you don’t object…” For a moment she looked quite vulnerable, like she thought I very well might refuse her, inching herself away a little but leaving her hand where it was over where my hearts were beating faster by the moment.
“I’d want to go with you. If I can. If I can’t… then I have to be honest, that’s too much of my life to slip by to wait on something that can’t really last anyway.”
She wasn’t wrong. I did my very best to never think about the differences in our lifespans, but clearly that wasn’t something too far from her mind. “It’s not really up to me, but… if she refuses to let you sign on…” I didn’t want to finish that sentence.
“Right. I think she will. She understands a lot about things not lasting.” Lisa smirked a little, “I will have to figure out what to do with my hair on this trip though, there aren’t exactly seasons in space.” She ran her free hand through the long strands, and I suggested… “You could have it done like stars, put the night sky design on there instead of the season?” I suggested, and realized that in saying that, I more or less acknowledged that I wanted her to go along. I knew she was right, this might very well be the last of our times together, she was in her mid to late twenties now, I think. Twenty-five or twenty-six, even if we got out there and stayed for one day and came back, eighteen Earth months would have come and gone, and that’s if we stopped for nothing. In reality we could be gone for a full two years with ease.
“You’re a genius, Bailey.” She said and set her cup down with a smirk, “I’ll make sure to pick up enough dye for the trip, and I’ll send an ‘application’ to Bonny Red before she gets here.”
Humans do not move slowly, that much is for sure. As far as she was concerned, the matter was settled.
I wasn’t sure if Bonny Red would be alright with this, but she was frankly as strange as Lisa. For some reason, unbeknownst and inexplicable to me, I always end up surrounded by oddballs and outliers.
And you know what?
I wouldn’t have it any other way.

2023.06.09 19:02 DTG_Bot Community Focus - CBGray
Source:
https://www.bungie.net/7/en/News/Article/community_focus_cbgray Happy time zones Guardians, and welcome to this week's Community Focus. Today we are hanging out with CBgrey, a content creator, self-proclaimed potato, and a PvE shepherd. So, let’s get into it.
Hi CB! First up, let’s talk about who you are, what your pronouns are, and what got you into gaming in the first place?
My name is Christian or CBgray but most just call me CB for short! My pronouns are he/him.
The name CBgray was a name that some of my friends called me growing up, that was just my first and middle initial and my last name! I am from Virginia originally, just outside of Washington, D.C., which will always be home to me. About a year ago I moved to Austin, Texas.
Growing up in the 90s, what really got me into gaming was Nintendo. There was something so magical about playing Pokémon on the Gameboy Color and seeing the birth of 3D gaming with games like Mario 64. I think that is what really birthed my love for video games. As I continued to get older, I had a dream to work as a game developer for Nintendo. In terms of what got me into content creation, I always wanted to try YouTube and even took a few stabs at it in high school with my cousin, Lena, and in college with one of my best friends and roommates, Gramm. Nothing really stuck though until I discovered Destiny.
Oh, I love a good cliff hanger. So how did you find Destiny?
I saw Destiny for the first time during E3. I thought the game looked like nothing I had seen before, and I recognized the name Bungie from Halo. However, despite that, I had never really played an FPS game seriously so I never would have imagined that I would fall in love with the game and still be playing it almost 10 years later. My brother, Evan, got the game on PS3 and I got the game on PS4 when it came out. I remember I was trying to win the white PS4 bundle in the Taco Bell promotion from way back when. When I started playing the game, I was hooked. I played through the whole campaign in a night with one of my best friends, Lamar, with two TV's side by side and we played all night. I had never experienced anything in gaming like that.
Around the time I started my channel, near the end of the Taken King expansion, I was going through a rough time, and I just wanted to try to create a family and a space where other people that enjoy Destiny could come together and help each other out with things inside the game and outside of the game. I had completely fallen in love with the game at this point and sank more hours in it during college than I probably should have with the amount of computer science work I had at the time, but I was really just hoping to form friendships with others and just provide an atmosphere where we could take our minds off things.
Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that would happen, so I'm really grateful. I can't thank my friends and family for believing in me when it could have looked like I was just wasting my time. I’m especially thankful to my mom who, without even knowing what it was, bought me an Elgato in 2016 when I couldn't afford it. Streaming was still a new concept in 2016 so I really appreciated their support. Thank you mom, dad, Evan, Kashema, Lamar, Tyler, Quan, Gramm, Nate, and so many others.
Through good and sad times, Destiny seems to be a way a lot of people find their community, and it’s really neat to hear about another one forming.
Speaking of building a community, you recently left your job to do content creation full time. How had that changed the way you play the game, create content, and interact with your community?
I did! It was a scary leap, but it has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. Honestly, I don't think it changed the way I play the game as much as it's allowed me to enhance what I was already doing, just putting my 100 percent info focusing on interacting with our community and making content on the game we all love. I have always wanted to see what my content could be like if I could just give it my best shot, so I am very grateful to the community for putting me in a position to do this as a job and to do what I love.
That’s really great to hear, keep on keeping on CB!
So, what type of content do you tend to focus on? Are you a PvE shepherd or a PvP no scope 360 kind of player?
For streams I mainly focus on helping players with PvE related activities! For example, I have 900 total helps for the Whisper and Zero Hour Missions. I love those missions so much, but even more than that, I love helping players cross the finish line on activities that they may have been struggling with or maybe just couldn't find players to game with. This type of content will always hold such a special place in my heart for myself and many others that I met along the way like Pause, Skarrow9, and so many others in the YouTube streaming family.
In terms of YouTube videos, we started off making helpful guides for players in the game as well as theory videos (as we would call them) where I along with Vet, Sweat, and so many others would hunt for things like Whisper of the Worm before it was out. More recently on YouTube, my focus over the past few years has been short-form content where I really just am trying to put a smile on people's faces for 60 seconds. It's mainly just a mixture of me being a goofball and trying to provide players with quick helpful information. That has kind of been my main niche for videos since Covid. I love these videos and it makes me happy to see people's reactions to them.
My next focus is on my Pokémon styled Destiny challenges, but we will talk more about that later!
Before we get to that, we have to know what your main character is, and your favorite loadout.
Titan for sure, it's been my main character since 2014.
My favorite loadout is a hard one but I'll just name some of my favorite things over the years. For armor, Lion Rampants (my babies), Twilight Garrison, and Precious Scars with the ornament to make it the tinfoil hat. (Important in our community.)
For weapons, the D1 Touch of Malice was my favorite gun in the game. Some other guns include Whisper of the Worm, Legend of Acrius in Vanilla D2, and the Duke Hand Cannon.
Alright, we’ve got a few questions left, let’s hear about the vibe of your channel for people who might want to stop by.
The vibe my channel brings is a chill escape. I try to make sure the channel feels like a place where you can just come to have a good time, feel welcomed, and not have to worry about anything else that might be going on. Just a place to hopefully leave with a smile on your face. Our community has lifted my spirits so many times that I just hope that our channel can reciprocate that for others who may need it.
Love that, truly.
What is something you wish you knew before starting Destiny?
I feel like there are things that probably could have been beneficial to know before starting Destiny, like maybe having a deeper understanding about FPS games like Halo and other games or the realm of possibilities with content creation. I genuinely didn't think I had much to offer to the community. That deterred me from starting sooner. Even to have this conversation with y’all feels like I am dreaming. So maybe if I knew what was possible, I would have started earlier. But with that being said, I'm glad I didn't know because it allowed me to follow the exact path that led me here and I wouldn't change that for the world. Also not having that much knowledge in the FPS space made for such a new and fun journey in gaming for me that felt so new.
So, I guess my actual answer is, I'm happy with what I knew.
That is a rad way to think about it. Having an understanding would have been helpful at the time, but it would have changed your experience.
So, what’s next for you and your community? Anything fun coming up or any events you are particularly excited for?
More Pokémon challenges in Destiny 2! I just recently did an ExoticDex challenge (what I call it) where I did a subathon stream where I collected all 222 obtainable Exotics in one stream! It took 16 days, but it was one of my favorite streams ever! I plan to bring more challenges like these to our community over the coming months on Twitch and YouTube side! I'm so excited and really feel a fire to try to innovate as much as and I am grateful to our community for putting me in a position to give it my all! Also, thank you to my team working behind the scenes for making that event possible.
That is absolutely wild CB. Such a neat thing to come up with.
Now having the experience that you do with Destiny, what do you want to tell any of the New Lights out there reading this?
Don't stress and play the game how you want to play it. There are so many fun memories to make in this game and that should be the focus. Everything else will fall into place as you go. Also realize that some of the friends you make in game will be friends you have for life. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be living with two people I met through Destiny, but I couldn't be happier to now share a home with Sweat and Evan. It blows my mind how much Destiny has changed all of our lives. It's just the power and magic of Destiny.
Where can people find you?
Anything else you want to add?
I just need to give a big thank you to our community. I would not be having this interview without them. I want to thank you, and everyone at Bungie for creating a game and a community that has changed my life, I'm really grateful. I thank god every day that I picked up this game and got to meet all the amazing people I've gotten to meet. This game and community has saved my life. A million thank you’s wouldn't be enough. I'm grateful for the opportunity. To anyone discouraged with anything in life, follow your dreams and don't give up. Anything is truly possible with patience and persistence.
And there we have it, this week’s Community Focus. Be sure to swing by CB’s channels and give him a follow if you want to check out his content for yourself. And don’t forget to check out our Community Focus with [email protected] and Plumli. Thanks for hanging out with us!

2023.06.09 19:01 WhatCanIMakeToday GameStop's 10-Q DRS Numbers: Bullish
| GameStop's most recent 10-Q revealed a very interesting and very bullish information with the number of shares held by Cede & Co going down! GameStop's 10-K filed on March 28, 2023 | GameStop's 10-Q filed today, June 7, 2023 | As of March 22, 2023, there were 197,058 record holders of our Class A Common Stock. Excluding the approximately 228.7 million shares of our Class A Common Stock held by Cede & Co on behalf of the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (or approximately 75% of our outstanding shares), approximately 76.0 million shares of our Class A Common Stock were held by record holders as of March 22, 2023 (or approximately 25% of our outstanding shares. | As of June 1, 2023, there were approximately 304,751,243 shares of our Class A common stock outstanding. Of those outstanding shares, approximately 228.1 million were held by Cede & Co on behalf of the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (or approximately 75% of our outstanding shares) and approximately 76.6 million shares of our Class A common stock were held by registered holders with our transfer agent (or approximately 25% of our outstanding shares) as of June 1, 2023. | Let's bring back some context from my prior post, GME 10-K: A Turning Point, and expand on it by first charting the history of GameStop's DRS numbers. https://preview.redd.it/921624w8yt4b1.png?width=4186&format=png&auto=webp&s=746db6cad0a0f8184302302aedf45fffb55e0857 This is beautiful because we're seeing a classic S-curve in our data. Let me draw it for you and explain. https://preview.redd.it/penl1bndyt4b1.png?width=4248&format=png&auto=webp&s=98f9a915a0e051c534c7d767085de25e88645ef0 An S-curve is very important when considering new ideas. Basically, an S-curve represents how fast an idea spreads. In the beginning, ideas are new and held by only a few so the growth curve is slow. Then, at some point, ideas take off and we see rapid growth. And, finally, there's a saturation point reached where growth slows down again. These "phases of innovation" are well documented: The adoption rate of innovations is non-linear; it is slow at first, then rapidly rises before flattening out again as it reaches market saturation. Harnessing the Power of S-Curves There are many theories of change, but one that is particularly relevant to innovation is centred on the S-curve. It is a way of depicting incremental, disruptive and radical innovation. ... The S-curve can also be used to depict the diffusion of innovations in a culture over time. First described by Everett Rogers in the early 1960s, diffusion is the process by which an innovation is communicated and taken up over time. Rogers’ work is important because it emphasises that the innovation itself is not the only determinant of its ‘success’. There must also be communication channels, time and a social system in place to enable the innovation to be used and adopted more and more widely. Rogers also identifies the different categories of adopters: innovators, early adopters, majority (further subdivided into early and late) and laggards (Rogers, 1962). [Open University: Innovation and the S-curve] When we look at the DRS numbers, we can see the classic S curve. The key recognition is that some shares were already directly registered before apes figured DRS out. Perhaps with the benefit of hindsight, it's obvious that no early whale apes directly registered 5 million shares because apes are generally not that rich. ComputerShared.net even has a Shareholder Distribution chart where you can see that, even now, all apes sampled have fewer than 32,768 shares. https://preview.redd.it/17ugkzgyot4b1.png?width=1251&format=png&auto=webp&s=e8d1dc706135698e4a7a403a4b6b5704c31c9767 While may never know how many shares were held by the ~1,600 record holders in 2021 or who held them, we do know that there were at least 1,600 record holders and they, by definition, held directly registered shares. Then, as of Oct 30, 2021, 5.2M shares were directly registered after a few early apes started direct registering their shares. As more apes started to directly register their shares, we see a rapid growth phase between 2021 and 2022. After the July 2022 splividend, we start to see DRS numbers tailing off as the idea of DRS matures signifying an acceptance of DRS amongst apes. Bullish Turning Points Looking back at the history of DRS numbers, we see two major changes in shareholder reporting: Oct 2021 and March 2023. As I noted before ( twice), These SEC forms are filed every quarter or year and people are lazy. The easiest way to start off a filing is to simply copy the one filed before (i.e., template) and update things like dates and numbers. So why the change? Wut mean? - Before Oct 2021, GameStop reported the number of record holders.
- Between Oct 2021 and Oct 2022, GameStop reported shares directly registered with their transfer agent.
- March 2023, GameStop reported the number of record holders, number of shares held by Cede & Co, and number of shares held by record holders.
- June 2023, GameStop reports the number of shares outstanding, number of shares held by Cede & Co, and number of shares held by registered holders with our transfer agent.
The Oct 2021 change is pretty clearly a result of apes directly registering their shares leading to a noticeable increase of directly registered shares. The March 2023 number is interesting because you'll notice that the Jan 2023 10-K reporting was significantly delayed for nearly two months from the end of Jan (see Jan 29, 2022) to March 22, 2023. This delay suggests the SEC didn't like what GameStop submitted and required GameStop to modify their filing before it became public. I think GameStop was going to put the discrepancy into their 10-K and the SEC said "Uhh, no. Please change that."^[1] (Remember, there shouldn't ever be more shares reported as held than shares outstanding; which is why proxy over voting has been "addressed" by adjusting the vote counts.) To give you an example of this problem from my prior DD, End Game: DTC and NSCC are screwed as the DTC just proved shareholders should Directly Register Shares (DRS) and End Game Part Deux: Problems at the DTCC plus The Bigger Picture, we saw from 🛏️🛁 bankruptcy filings that their Transfer Agent reported Cede and Co holds more shares (776M) than there are outstanding (739M) -- which should be impossible. Sources can't be linked (contains the ticker symbol) but can be found in the other sub If a bankruptcy judge didn't order 🛏️🛁 to file this information with the Court, nobody would ever know that a company has 739M shares outstanding (with some directly registered) while the DTC and DTCC are circulating 776M shares of that company for trading (plus rehypothecation)! Yet, here we are. And now we understand why the SEC is rushing to push through so many regulations simply to not look as bad when shit hits the fan. ("So, SEC, a bunch of regards on the Internet figured this out with publicly available information and you didn't? Even when the SEC was directly made aware of issues, again?") Turning back to GME's 10-Q numbers, GameStop reported 76.6M shares held by Registered Holders^[2] and 228.1M shares held by Cede & Co on behalf of the DTCC. We know what ComputerShare, the Transfer Agent, is reporting. But due to the fog of war, we don't know how many shares the DTC and DTCC are circulating for trading or how many beneficially owned rights to shares there are. What we know and don't know Which means we can think of GME's 10-Q filing as a sort of CYA. GameStop has put on record there are 228.1M shares recorded by the Transfer Agent (ComputerShare) as allocated to Cede & Co and the DTC/DTCC. As far as GameStop, ComputerShare, and the SEC are concerned, any securities issues after that are problems within the Big Orange Box of BS (Beneficially-owned Shares). The flattening of the S-curve happened somewhere around Oct 2022 and March 2023 when, all of a sudden, apes only saw an increase of 0.5M shares directly registered in the Oct 2022 DRS number followed by a 4.2M increase in March 2023. I think what happened for the Oct 2022 DRS number is institutions withdrew their ~5M directly registered shares to Cede & Co to (1) try and make it look like apes were leaving and (2) put more shares into Cede & Co for circulation.^[3] A few apes have come up with some recent evidence this could the case (by reviewing the ledger!) per a post on the DRS sub by lawsondt (with confirmation in the comments, 🫡) https://preview.redd.it/kcottjzra05b1.png?width=675&format=png&auto=webp&s=361ce4adaa8b1f58b39c88e0d4113d0b98bf6b47 Remember, apes are generally not whales so there's no way apes started off with 5.2M shares directly registered. On the other hand, institutions have the money to do so and some institutions probably wanted to have shares in their name. But there are no institutions on the list as of April 2023 anymore which strongly suggests apes are amazing regards who directly registered more shares than the institutions pulled out. And now, institutions are out of directly registered shares. No more DRS rug pulls. The Number of Shares Held By The DTC Is Consistently Shrinking So when I look at the 71 calendar days between March 28, 2023 and June 7, 2023 ( 49 trading days), ComputerShare recorded 600k more shares held by registered ownership. That's 8,000+ shares per calendar day or 12,000+ shares per trading day removed from the BS box and locked away. This is what the power of slow and steady erosion looks like Cede & Co's holdings are consistently shrinking and institutions no longer have any directly registered shares. IMPORTANT POINT ABOUT BENEFICIAL SHARES (BS) According to the SEC, beneficial rights to shares held by the DTC are split amongst all the beneficial shareholder interests. Each participant or pledgee having an interest in securities of a given issue credited to its account has a pro rata interest in the securities of that issue held by DTC. [SR-DTC-2003-02 34-47978 (June 4, 2003)] From another DD, Estimating Excess GME Share Liquidity From Borrow Data & Churn Factor, I covered a 2010 IMF Working Paper ( The (sizable) Role of Rehypothecation in the Shadow Banking System) that found rehypothecation in the shadow banking system resulted in a churn factor of 4. https://preview.redd.it/5kv4pllbxv4b1.png?width=1368&format=png&auto=webp&s=f2c76ac21a828fbe7aca78b4ac1517c36e671288 A churn factor of 4 means each GME share is rehypothecated into 4 beneficial rights to 1 GME share. Thus, according to the SEC, each GME share in a brokerage is worth 1/4 of what you think it's worth. Less if the churn factor is higher. (Easily higher as some countries have no limits on rehypothecation.) Simply changing how shares are held from beneficially-owned shares (BS) to directly registered shares (DRS) automatically increases how much of the Company you own. This is true for any Company where shareholders may suspect the DTC has more shares on their books or in circulation than they should. With the shadow banking system rehypothecating assets around in circles, it's likely every BS share traded under the DTCC is worth less a DRS counterpart. Thus, every shareholder is basically incentivized to own a bigger portion of each Company by simply Direct Registering Shares to get more ownership for the same price. Which is exactly what the DTC and SEC said shareholders should do: DTC pointed out that if beneficial owners believe that their interests are best protected by not having their shares subject to book-entry transfer at DTC, then they can instruct their broker-dealer to execute a withdrawal-by-transfer, which will remove the securities from DTC and transfer them to the shareholder in certificated form. SR-DTC-2003-02 34-47978 (June 4, 2003) If I get 4x more ownership by executing a DRS withdrawal-by-transfer out of the DTC, then clearly the DTC is not protecting my interests and I should execute a DRS withdrawal-by-transfer as suggested by the DTC and SEC. BACK TO THE S-CURVE Remember: adoption rate is non-linear. Meaning all the comments about it taking 84 years to lock the float at this rate are irrelevant because they assume a constant linear DRS rate at the current 8,000+ per calendar day (12,000+ per trading day) rate. Instead, we should consider the current 8,000+ per calendar day (12,000+ per trading day) rate as a floor for what apes are accomplishing as a baseline. Progress and adoption are typically a series of S-curves as ideas are spread, adopted by a group, reach maturity in that group, spread more, adopted by others, reach maturity in the new group, and spread more again. https://www.open.edu/openlearn/nature-environment/organisations-environmental-management-and-innovation/content-section-1.7 As a baseline, the current 8,000+ per calendar day (12,000+ per trading day) is phenomenal because these shares are getting locked away every single day despite everything Wall St has tried including: - incredibly high inflation taking away money from investments for living expenses,
- media constantly bashing meme stocks, and
- an endless stream of rule proposals and comments from the financial industry designed to screw retail investors.
I look forward to upcoming S-curves increasing our DRS numbers as more people learn about how our markets function. I know it will happen because it is inevitable. As shares are directly registered with the Transfer Agent, fewer shares will be held by the DTC which reduces the value of the remaining beneficial shares. And, in order to keep the price down, more beneficial rights to the shrinking number shares held by the DTC will be sold which further dilutes the value of those BS shares. As the ownership gain from directly registering shares increases, more shares will be directly registered which further speeds up this virtuous cycle (a virtuous cycle is like a vicious cycle, but for good things). The incentives and self-interests align in such a way that the invisible hand ensures people will DRS as they learn it's more valuable to them. Thank you to every ape out there contributing to this shared knowledge base. From the lit buildings at midnight to the memes and the amazing DD, including the relentless and rigorous peer review^[4], we are all educating each other about how our securities markets function. [1] This theory is also consistent with some Trust Me Bro that I speculated about. [2] Why the change from "record holders" to "registered holders"? Maybe this is to address the confusion around the Heat Lamp Theory? From the context, I suspect Book or Plan are both counted by ComputerShare as Directly Registered Shares falling under the "Registered-ownership shares" category on ComputerShare's FAQ. [3] Notably, if you consider an adjustment for the Oct 2022 onwards numbers for the shares institutions pulled out, you'd get a much cleaner and smoother transition at the top with +5.5M, +4.2M, +0.6M and so on... which makes for a prettier S-curve that one might expect to see. [4] Let's be realistic, it's the Internet.
