What I'm about to say is going to get a bit dark but it feeds into why this game is important to a lot of people in this community from a mental point of view.. If you don't want to read below, the basic point is this:
Comradery creates a sense of Brotherhood regardless of where your from or what your differences are and frankly, we just don't find something like this anymore in many games.These kinds of games create more than just friendships, but lasting memories that bring joy for men and women alike. I can personally speak on a Brotherhood and friendship I have formed with great guys I play with and for the first time in 15 years, I actually found a game I enjoy playing again. Whether it's with friends or strangers, the idea of a "Brotherhood" and bonding with each other made not just between your squad, but you and other squads is a really powerful sensation I feel like we're all missing. Being part of a cohesive, elite unit of 50 guys (and ladies at times) all working together as a team to win is incredible. I would love to go as far as saying that some humanities best side comes out in this kind of environment which I believe says a lot. If you decide to read all this, I really think you'll find the perspective I lay out interesting. But I'm going to warn you, it gets a little dark. I always find the music to helpful in reading this kind of stuff.

Context:

In the 31 years of life I've had on this planet, I've seen what war does to people, I've seen (and experienced) some of the worst mental and physical pain imaginable and subsequently fell into depression, addiction as a result of some of the darkest, most cruelest aspects of life I never thought the world could offer 10 years ago. From the screams a Mother makes when her child passes, harrows of opioid addiction all alone in the world trying to survive, hearing your own mother cry in agony from disease and pain, engaged and then cheated on or the relentless rage of an abusive father growing up. Then came homelessness in Chicago in the middle of winter for several years. Despite having a loving Mother and my younger Brother, life--like many of you in the USA and around the world--all have seen in some way how truly painful life becomes becoming an adult and trying to find purpose and meaning. However, one of life's cruelest acts is how painful pure loneliness is when you're broken.

Point is this:

Life has been cruel to all of us in this world and it will carry on. You get use to it but it will always happens in a new way and each time it will sting like it was the first but like before. Just gets easier recovering each time. As we make this tumultuous journey in life and understanding our purpose and meaning in life, we take a moment to play this game where--albeit a videogame--the reality of how we interact together changes compared to reality around us. For instances, that squad lead trying to guide you and your squad to a victory was probably dealing with a horrible breakup you had no idea about. To him, you guys were probably the closest friends he had to him or someone to talk too. You know the brave Commander who stepped up even though no one else would? His Mother may have died a few months back leaving him alone in the world with nothing, debt and a ton of pain as the world swallows him. Probably dealing with emotional pain but sees everyone around him as a friend that he knows will care when he helps and leads you and everyone else to win. You know that medic that could of been any other class instead? He didn't have to play a role to support you or the squad yet he did. He was thinking about himself and found you worth the run across the field of gun fire to pick up. He didn't have to do that yet, in the little free time we get in this cold, lonely world we live in, you were all that mattered to him. Each of you--whether you see it or not--are creating the Brotherhood we as humans are programed to have in our lives.

Final Thoughts

This is the only game I have ever played that has had a community of people in game who actually care about each other regardless where they are from. I know this sounds stupid, but when you're an adult in this cruel world and you feel worthless, lonely and depressed and you have no family or they died and you work your ass off barely make rent only to realize you'll likely never retire, have a family or a loved one, it feels really good hearing a medic come running to save you. I don't know, maybe I'm just overthinking about it, but many games today are very individualistic. This game depends completely on teamwork and the idea of a cohesive team that contains people doing something they enjoy is special. This is where that Brotherhood forms.

I’ve been doing embedded software for maybe 9 months now. Thing is, my current position is ad hoc. I have the qualifications (well, a CS degree) so my company gave me the project rather than outsource it. My prior position was Engineering Technician.
The next couple paragraphs are just about what I do.
I made my company a product using TTL and RF comms. I prototyped the project on a raspberry pi with Python that operated in O(n) and had variable memory costs. I made a final version with Arduino in C, I tweaked the algorithm for more up-front memory usage but it operates in O(1) and the memory usage isn’t variable.
It’s a real-time operating system. One end has a printer and a button. The other end has a keypad and uses an opto-isolator as a relay. I even had to design a multi-purpose PCB in kicad which I’ve never done before using all the bells and whistles.
Admittedly, it’s a simple system, but Im really proud of it. I had no knowledge of these systems beforehand, I taught myself everything for this project beyond basic knowledge of C. I’ve barely had real professional coding experience before this beyond debugging and normal programming, here I’ve made an entire system architecture. It came out great but sadly there’s no patent I can put my name on. The project is basically over so I’m trying to leave this company.
Here’s where it circles back around to the topic.
This isn’t my field. I’m not even sure what my field is. I got a computer science degree, had an internship that involved debugging a three-language localized platform, and since then haven’t had much coding experience for a few years beyond some basic Python data processing.
I don’t know how to advertise what I’ve been doing. I don’t know what people on this field are looking for. I didn’t even know I’ve been doing Embedded Software until I researched jobs that might match my experience. My job title only changed once I found that out and asked my bosses to change it to help me look for new work.
I’ve been looking for 3 months and haven’t gotten a single bite. I have 3 months left to find work and I don’t know what to do. I want to do more of this, I’d even love to do it in my free time, but I have no idea what to do to make myself sound like someone worth hiring. Could anyone offer advise on how to market my experience in this field?
Is my experience worth anything, or should I give up and just try to pursue software engineering? I’ve had trouble finding work there too, since I have no database experience. I’m 3 years out of college and have comparably low experience in my field vs other candidates.

Alright so I just barely woke up after dreaming about playing Minecraft of all things. In it, I came across a biome or part of the map that was such a bizarre but neat idea that I just have to get it off my chest. Forgive me if it sounds ridiculous but hear me out:
So you know those sunken ships you find around the ocean? In my dream, I was flying around and I came across a giant bay housing a bunch of these abandoned ships, except some were still afloat and some sunk deep underwater. Everytime I entered that part of the map a deep, gray fog would envelop it, and even the water lost a bit of its blue vibrancy. I only explored around the surface, but I found some ships that had some loot in them, just like the game. One thing stood out in the loot though, and this is where it may begin to get ridiculous, but in all of the regular loot, there was one Aztec death whistle. I never used it but, I remember my dream portraying it as some rare item.
So, I woke up a little later after goofing off in that dream and all, and I thought of some ways this could be improved:

• So let's make it a very rare biome/structure (honestly dont know which it should be). Maybe as rare as a woodland mansion, and you can only pinpoint one down by finding a very rare map in a sunken ship that leads to it.
  
• Some ships will still be afloat, but the rest have sunken deep underwater. Maybe the surface can have a bunch of docks to help locate the area on land.
  
• Underwater would be many of the regular ships we're used to, but there would be a much larger ship in the middle of them all where you can find the special item in the captain's room. I'd say the Aztec death whistle would be it, but that might be too far of a stretch. I'll leave that idea up to you.
  
• It shouldn't just be a free lootfest of course. Something should be stopping you from trying to get into the big ship, or just all the ships in general. My idea would be some kind of pirate curse you have to overcome by some means, but I'll also leave this idea up to you.
  

That's really it! I hope it doesn't sound too silly, lol. Not going to push for this to actually happen, not like it ever will, just really needed to tell everyone about it after dreaming about this. Leave some ideas!

My husband gets up very early for work every day, around 4am. I used to be a teacher and woke up quite early as well but since 2019 I’ve been a stay at home mom to our two kids (4 and 2) when we realized how expensive our daycare bill would be. Our 4 year old also has some special needs. The transition to being a SAHM was hard on me emotionally, I felt very depressed and isolated, as we live very far from our family (over 500 miles) due to my husband’s job. But I’ve made my own routine and I’ve really got it handled at home. I do 99% of household tasks and taking care of the kids, because my husband truly does work a lot and often doesn’t get home until dinner time, and is sometimes gone on work trips for 2 weeks or so. But like I’ve said, I’ve got it down now!
So anyway, with the background story explained a little, my husband has been at home more so the past two months because of medical reasons. Both my 4 year old and I have been in the hospital recently for different reasons; me because I developed an antibiotic resistant infection and my son because he required immediate surgery on an internal birth defect that was just recently discovered. This has caused my husband to have to step back from work a little (but not too much, my dad actually flew down to stay with me and help me out and take care of the kids while I healed). But while my husband has been at home more, he has come to the conclusion that I “sleep too much.” One of my beloved hobbies is gardening, and I have a great big garden in our yard full of various flowers, but also eggplant, different pepper plants, tomatoes, cabbage, broccoli… list goes on. He keeps telling me “if you want a successful garden you need to stop sleeping in and get out here at 6am go tend to them”. This is wild for him to say to me, considering I take care of this garden by myself and there’s no gardening law that says they need to be “tended to” before the sun comes up. I’m not sure where he got that idea. My garden already is successful, so I’m also not sure why he said it in the way. Another thing he has said recently is that “I need to stay up later because adults don’t go to bed as early as I do”. I go to bed around 10pm, at the latest 11pm, and wake up around 7am. He said this is lazy, and I don’t need this much sleep, and that he functions fine on 4-5 hours of sleep. He often doesn’t come to bed until midnight, and like I said he will wake up a little after 4am. I asked him why he thinks it’s weird for me to prioritize sleep when I have full days ahead of me of raising our kids, one whom has special needs, maintaining a clean home, tending to a garden, cooking 3 meals a day (we rarely eat take out). He told me “more could get done if I didn’t sleep so much.” I was like, “what more could get done? What more should I do?” He just scoffed, didn’t have an answer for me.
I cannot figure out why he has a problem with me sleeping through the night. What’s ironic is that he so sleep deprived himself that on his days off, he doesn’t want to do anything with us as a family and just falls asleep on the couch. Me? I never nap. Because I make a point to go to sleep when I’m tired. He always has headaches and stomach issues, and I’m certain it’s because he is so dang tired but won’t prioritize rest. He will complain about being tired but stays up late to play video games.
This morning he woke me up as he was leaving work, I said “have a good day, I love you”. He said I love you back, but was angry I turned back around to go back to sleep. He wanted me to get up. (And do what exactly?) I just don’t get why. Can someone offer any insight? Why does my husband not want me to sleep?

I tried searching steam and Reddit but I don’t seem to find any information on a mod to implement Civ 5’s puppet city system into Civ 6. I tend to play marathon and huge maps with a lot of civs and when getting into the end game the number of cities you can have can be a lot. I don’t want to burn the cities to the ground because I don’t want to lose their resources but it gets extremely annoying. Is there a mod that will allow you to automate city production so you don’t have to suffer though picking every so often. The built in queue feature was a poor attempt at replacing the system as you can only queue the first building in a district. If you could even change the code to allow you to queue the next building in a district with finishing the prior I would be super thrilled.

After Hauser tried to cut and run and the parents heard, Clarence and goons dropped off that big ass tv, Chrissy found their poor lost dog (probably looking for warmth) reward-free. Not to mention offered the Bada Bing treatment before.
When Meadow finally breaks down and tells her parents about Ally’s trauma: Meadow: ‘Coach Hauser had sex with Ally! That’s why she cut herself! …she said that they had sex! That’s she’s not a virgin anymore!’ Tony immediately says something like ‘Alright, Ally’s a pretty girl, maybe there’s some confusion…’ Obviously, a real bad response. I couldn’t imagine hearing that.
Here’s my question if you were Tony, would you: 1-call cops/take pills and booze? 2-find a stomping curb? 3-take back the tv? 4-gift Meadow the coach’s dog? 5-ask Ally’s dad what they wanted to do?

What ended up being a “lazy” costume ended up being the most popular costume. Mostly because there was a glowing green plumbob floating in the sea of 19yos haha. This post was prompted by private conversations I’ve had with several builders who I’ve recently met through these subs — some of whom are here; some are not. Playing this game solo for so long has been quite an experience, so it's been awesome connecting with like-minded people from all over. I used to think everyone played the game the way I do (in Live mode), but it's been humbling to learn how two experienced players can know very little about the gameplay features of the other!
While it's less likely that our differences will be as drastic since we are all builders to some extent, I've still come to learn that there are so many different approaches within building, too. So, I’m excited to share my personal experience with you — for you to enjoy discovering how unique everyone's gameplay is, and I have yet to find two that are truly the same. I hope you have fun reading through the responses and hopefully, enjoyed answering them too, if you did that. And if you did, thank you for doing so and for contributing!
