2023.06.06 14:08 cliniclown Peripheral question: share peripherals between laptop and desktop with option to switch between
I hope this subreddit doesn't mind a question with regards to peripherals.
Situation: I have a desktop PC and a laptop dock (obviously the laptop dock is to completement a laptop). My peripherals (2 monitors (1 hdmi type A & 1 DP) , keyboard, mouse, webcam(all usb))) are plugged in to the laptop dock.
Goal: In an ideal world I would love to be able to use all the same peripherals, and just switch between laptop/desktop willy nilly depending on which machine i want to do some work on any given time (running parallel). Use case: have desktop tower do some computatively intensive workload and while that is trucking along work on laptop.
Complication: my desktop computer doesn't have a USB-A with displayport, so i can't simply take the USB-A input of the laptop dock and put it in the tower PC. Switching the screens is the hard part as i can't just double up on the inputs because then the desktop thinks there are 4 screens i.s.o. 2.
Question: How to make this work? What is the right terminology to find a device that can help me to look into this? What suggestions may you have?
I'm trying a stab in the dark providing all the information i think could be relevant with specs below. Pardon my ignorance if i didn't include all the relevant bits. Trying my best :-)
Device specifications: - Input:
- USB 3.2 (Gen1, 5Gb/s) type-A
- Video out:
- HDMI 1.4
- Displayport 1.2
- Screens: (2x iiyama ProLite XB2483HSU-B2) :
- Video in: DVI-D, HDMI, VGA (D-Sub)
- Mobo: Asus P9X79
- Outputs:
- IEEE 1394,
- 6x USB 2.0
- 4x USB 3.1 Gen 1
- GraCa: Asus GeForce GTX 770 2GB DirectCU II OC
- Outputs:
- DisplayPort 1.2
- DVI-D
- DVI-I
- HDMI 1.4

2023.06.06 13:23 EMcElf Macbook air 15' alternatives
Hi guys, I really don't want a Macbook. But I need something with at least a 14' screen that is lightweight, bright screen and has stellar battery life. The new HP-Spectre and Dell XPS both use intel and have got terrible battery life. The Dragonfly Pro isn't sold in the UK :( so I wanted to know if you guys knew of any alternatives. Wish it had a 500 nit display though.

2023.06.06 13:09 UFMusic HP Prodesk 600 G2 MT PSU Upgrade problems
Hi there
pchelp!
Following a major failure, I had to buy an emergency PC on the form of a HP PRODESK 600 G2 MT. Of course, this is a business PC, meaning upgrading it can be a pain in the ass.
So I went to our good ol' Internet and tried to find some answer to how to upgrade all of this (PSU, RAM and GPU.) RAM went easy. GPU is ready to install... But here's the catch.
I bought this great BeQuiet System Power 9 600W PSU but it needs a 24 to 6 pin ATX converter. So I order the cable from MODDIY.
My motherboard gets power, my PSU works fine but my PC wont boot even though it's specified that it should be compatible with my model... And now, my PC won't even boot with the OG PSU from HP when I switched back to it... There was no surcharge nor burnt circuits and all was in order... But why is my PC not booting with this new PSU? I just wanna know how to solve this without having to buy a new PC... (This would be my last resort)
Here's the links of what I bought and the PC:
PC // HP Prodesk 600 G2 MT
PSU // BeQuiet System Power 9
https://www.digitec.ch/en/s1/product/be-quiet-system-power-9-600-w-power-supply-pc-12003360 ATX 24 to 6 pin converter // MODDIY
https://www.moddiy.com/products/HP-ProDesk-600-PSU-Main-Power-24-Pin-to-6-Pin-Adapter-Cable-30cm.html If anybody has a solution, please help me as this has been driving me crazy for multiple months... I can post photos of it aswell if needed!
Thanks in advance reddit π

2023.06.06 12:44 thcerry Need a pc for studying and working in Compositing VFX
What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.
- Studying and eventually working in VFX (compositing) using: Maya, Arnold, Photoshop, Nuke, Substance Painter.
What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?
- 3000/3500 if I need to. (I want something that can work easily with a junior composer workflow if I have to work from home. Can upgrade minor things like SSD or Ram in the future easily)
When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
- In the next 2-3 months. I need it to be ready in late September.
What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)
Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?
If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.
- I will reuse my Logitech mouse and my HP 2UD96AA#ABB monitor. (if you think I have to buy a new monitor I can take it in consideration)
Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?
Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
- Would like to have SSD for OS and Programs.
Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
- I'd like a mid-tower size with a window.
Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?
- Yes, I do. Wndows 11 Pro.
Extra info or particulars: Starting a VFX master and I need a PC build for it. I'd like to have a PC that I will able to use for work (composing) once I ended the master. Never built a PC so if you think that it will be better go straight with a 3500 budget I am okay with that. Thank you!

2023.06.06 08:52 Less_Low_5228 Recreating my PC from middle school as a sleeper build using the original case
| This tower has a lot of good memories since I got it back in 2011 or so. Used it until 2016 and even did some βcase modsβ (mostly spray paint) since I couldnβt afford a PC with a shiny fancy case back in the day. The original PC in there had a core i5-750, idk what the original gpu was but it was completely worthless and my dad upgraded it to a GTX 480 anyway around the time I started using it, and 8gb of RAM. This thing was a beast that got me through 5th grade, all of middle school, and early high school until I had the money to build my own. Specs if you donβt want to read through hwinfo Motherboard: Gigabyte B550m Aorus Elite CPU: Ryzen 7 5800x3D GPU: Dell RX 5700XT (upgrading to a 4070) RAM: Corsair Vengeance Pro LPX 16GB (2x8) upgrading to 32 soon SSD: Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1TB Case: HP Pavilion Elite e9260f To make it as authentic looking as possible to the real thing I had back in the day I did my best to make my install look as authentic as I could to Windows 7 and even added a Naruto background fitting of middle school me. Some notes: The case does support mATX boards, but upside down The original board is upside down mATX but slightly smaller at the corners so I had to warp the dvd drive cage with pliers to make room for the new motherboard The original cpu fan is being used as a chassis fan because Iβm cheap All IO including the sd card reader works with the exception of βHP easy backupβ. I could do something with it but Iβm not sure what Only 1 dvd drive remains since I had to remove the bottom one to warp the drive cage so I could fit the motherboard Out of every PC I have ever touched this case has the best, most satisfying power button ever and itβs not even close! submitted by Less_Low_5228 to pcmasterrace [link] [comments] |
2023.06.06 08:16 Level_Mycologist_947 Please help me with eidolons.
Man, this game is like a rollercoaster. The railjack gameplay is absolutely amazing. A total blast.
But the eidolons... I don't have words for how annoying this content is. I like the idea of having the operator and her doing her own little shit but the grind for her to get weapons is so fucking annoying it makes me sick. At this point I really don't think I "get it" and so aside from spewing out my disgust, I'm also looking for some SUPER PRO TIPS!
I just spent the entire night, 1 hour attempting to take down an eidolon. And we ran out of time at around 75-80%. An entire hour fucking wasted spamming buttons and using mental energy for absolutely fuck all. It's infuriating that content could be this complicated, and what pisses me off more is If had to guess, later down the line it all becomes trivial and easy as hell once you have some different weapons/geaw/e. BUT to get that gear you need the shit that drops from these eidolons, it's a fucking catch 22. So I'm at a loss right now.
Are you "supposed to" just farm the little fuckers for reputation to grind quill ranks before even attempting to the eidolons? It seems like the answer is yes because having the first amp you get from quills at rank 1 does fuck all.
I'm not even entirely sure I understand how the boss works. You can't use any normal weapons, except for when you can and the conditions for when normal weapons do actually work is a mystery. Otherwise you have to apparently target his weak spots with your operator. And chip away at the fucker who probably has millions of health. He summons the adds who are seemingly buggy as fuck. Sometimes damage just DOESNT work on them, im talking amp damage just not going through. Get their hp to 0 and then they instantly are back at 100%, then hit them again any they go into their blue about to die state? *closes eyes and shakes head* That shit doesn't make ANY SENSE. But I get it, you have to kill those things because apparently they heal the eidolon and they are also broken and randomly appear throughout the map so basically they are just there all the time, always.
It appears every once in awhile the eidolon will call the fuckers to heal him and I assume you are to kill the little dudes, but then there is some sort of interaction with the eidolon somehow? Like he becomes weakened or more susceptible to damage or something? Then he resets whatever that is and you have to start targeting the weakspots again.
I just don't fucking understand. This content is GARBAGE. But also extremely necessary to progress your account overall and to gain access to tons of important stuff/weapons etc. So what is a person "supposed to do?" Apparently you need a group of 4 people, who all know what to do, all have max ranked quill weapons, maxed out everything. And then what? It takes 10 minutes? I so wish this was just some side bullshit I could opt out of but being able to progress my operator is apparently super important. The moment I got to the railjack mission where you were forced to use your shitty operator and her shitty bullshit amp against overpowered bullshit, I was heartbroken. I'm fucking stuck with the garbage ass bullshit. So what am I supposed to do? Grind the little fuckers or what?

2023.06.06 08:11 DragonsReach420 HP T630 thin client conversion?
Hey guys! I recently picked up an HP t630 thin client, with 8gb ram, and a 128gb ssd, and the amd gx-420gi cpu/apu. I am attempting to install windows 10 pro, and have gotten the OS all setup and running, but noticed in device manager when doing windows updates that a listing for βSystemFirmwareβ is shown in device manager, and it is shown as being version 15.29.0.0 but throws βdevice cannot start. (code 10)
The I/O device is configured incorrectly or the configuration parameters to the driver are incorrectβ
Tried uninstalling and reinstalling that driver to no avail, as soon as I uninstall the driver, it automatically reinstalls the driver and throws that error.
Can anyone help? Thanks!

2023.06.06 06:51 Yawgmoth13 Legion 5i Pro Gen 8 Suddenly Stops Displaying to 2nd Monitor
New to the Legion family as of early May, and this evening encountered a surprise problem. My Legion that HAD been displaying to 2 external monitors without issue, suddenly stops detecting my 2nd monitor as "active"/won't display anything to the 2nd monitor.
Details: Legion 5i Pro gen 8 -i9-13900HX -24gb DDR5 -4060 RTX
HP USB-C G5 Dock 1st Monitor: LG 4k via HDMI into dock 2nd Monitor: Asus Predator via DP into dock
Had been connecting the dock USB-C to the left hand C port on the Legion, no issues. This afternoon I unplugged it for a while, then plugged it back in, and my 2nd monitor no longer displays at all. I confirmed the monitor is set to the correct input.
I tried the basics of rebooting. Disconnected the monitor from power and the DP cable from the monitor and the dock. Even tried connecting it to the 2nd DP port on the dock.
Deleted the monitor from Device Manager after disconnecting, rebooted, reconnected.
Tried updating the NVIDIA 4060 drivers, no luck. Then used DDU, reinstalled the latest drivers, still no picture to the 2nd screen.
I tried the dock with my work laptop, both displays get signal with no issue.
I DO still get both displays going through the Legion's rear USB-C PD port as well.
So I'm inclined to believe the monitor, dock, and display port cable are all fine.
BUT, I still really want to know why the left-hand USB-C port on my brand new Legion will suddenly only display to my 1st/main monitor. Windows Display settings even still shows a 3rd display is detected, but it's just shown as a tiny tile with the 3 greyed out, and the further settings just say that the display is "inactive".
Anyone else encounter this or have possible solutions beyond the basic power cycle, disconnect cables, and DDU???
Thanks.

2023.06.06 06:40 Deep-Awareness3124 High Performance/Budget/Balanced PC for Video Editing (Premiere), Gaming, Productivity
What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.
I will be using this PC as my general workstation--coursework with dozens of tabs open on Chrome, editing in Photoshop and Illustrator at the same time, 1080p (and maybe 4k) video in Premiere Pro. I will also be using it for gaming, but quality is not my biggest concern (GTA Online, Minecraft, Warzone) and streaming using OBS, but I'd rather a PC that's built for the productivity work/editing with gaming benefits as a byproduct.
My previous PC is
the HP Pavilion 690-0020 with an upgraded 1TB SSD (EVO 870) and 16GB RAM (Corsair LPX 16GB 2666), which I'd like to carry over to the new machine.
What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?
Before rebates, taxes, and shipping, I'd like to spend $800-900. However, I'm willing to cut corners wherever possible to bring the price down without significantly reducing performance.
When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
ASAP, if I can decide on a build that is suitable.
What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)
Tower only. OS, monitor, keyboard, mouse is covered. RAM and Storage will be brought over, but I'd like to add another 16GB and 1TB, respectively.
Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?
Michigan, US. I do have access to a Microcenter, although it's a bit of a drive.
If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.
Logitech MX MASTER 3S Wireless Optical Mouse Leopold FC980CEW Wired Standard Keyboard Sceptre C275B-144RN 27.0" 1920 x 1080 144 Hz Curved Monitor
TP-Link Archer TX3000E 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax PCIe x1 Wi-Fi Adapter Samsung 870 Evo 1 TB 2.5" Solid State Drive Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-2666 CL16 Memory
Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?
Down the line, maybe, but honestly, I don't need to (unless it's advised for what I want to do?).
Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
I move a lot of files from SD cards and external HDDs/SSDs, so fast/plentiful connectors would be ideal. I also saw mentions of Intel's Quick Sync working well with the Adobe Suite, as well as Nvidia chips being better suited for the Adobe Suite as well. If this is accurate, I'd like to stick with this. I'd also like to expand the storage eventually, so room for that would be great.
Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
Understated is fine, as long as it's not downright ugly. If the colors match, that's awesome, but I'd rather cut costs than target a particular aesthetic/theme. At the moment, I was thinking something all black with no RGB. I'm not gonna be looking at it a whole lot, so as long as it looks decent when I do, I'm good.
Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?
No, I don't. I can get a copy through my university, as far as I can tell.
Extra info or particulars:
Here's a
link to my initial idea for a build (
https://pcpartpicker.com/usethesplashzone/saved/f3JR4D). This is my first time seriously considering a build so apologies if it's formatted wrong. I altered some prices because I know people from whom I might buy parts, but those deals aren't set in stone yet. The overall price is higher than I'd like it to be, so cutting it down even by a bit would be awesome.
Thank you all very much!

2023.06.06 05:53 _RexDart HP Pro Desk 600 = No Audio, Just Crackles
Arcade1Up Big Blue and LCD controller. Works fine with PS Classic or RasPi4. The HP running Batocera works fine with normal HDMI displays. But I plug HP running Batocera into Big Blue and I either get no sound, or crackles.
Observation: HP has 2 DP outputs and 1 HDMI, which are presented in Batocera as a shifting selection of about a dozen audio options. I finally found a combo of Batocera options that got me extremely quiet audio over HDMI.
I'm chalking this up to Batocera issues since every other hardware and software combo works flawlessly.
Any ideas for getting audible audio from the HP, via Batocera, to the A1Up LCD controller?

2023.06.06 02:55 MindlessVersion8 Apple Vision Pro.... how comfy would it be?
I am a VR enthusiast. Used and owned different types of headsets like Google Cardboard, Gear VR, HTC Vive, Samsung Odyssey+, Valve Index, HP Reverb G2, Oculus Quest 1, and Oculus Quest 2. And if you're like me you know how shitty (to say the least) is to wear a headset. The only solution is to counter balance, but that adds weight, and you can't just sit back and chill.
Apple Vision Pro, while it looks great, I just have serious doubts about its weight distribution. It looks front-heavy, and there's no weight distribution whatsoever. No matter how light it is and how soft the cushion is, the face cushion WILL press the cheekbone downwards due to gravity. And that will make it uncomfortable to use.
And that shows their lack of experience.

2023.06.06 01:33 Rand0m_Boyo Hanzo has got to be the most unrespectable and overall worst hero in the game
Imagine having to rely on luck to hit a shot that 90% of the time instabtly kills any hero with 200 and less HP, or can quickly delete any tank. How can you play that garbage ass bowman and not feel shame?
And before you go "but WidowmakeCassidy/Zen/(other annoying heroes)are more disguisting"
Widow - You can get her quite easily from upclose, and even if you get a pro Widow it's still rather hard for them to one pop you if you know how to move crazy enough to make headshotting you hard Cas - you need to hit enemy several times to kill them with the gun. The nade, while it's bullshit, only sticks if you're close enough. Zen - you need to know how to survive and watch out for the flankers who can get yo tiny ass hp bar gone in a secone to be useful enough with that unbalanced ass discord ball.
Every annoying hero requires at least a bit of skill or can be easily defeated besides tryharding a kill. What does Hanzo have on other hand? - Getting close/far to make it harder to get you? Nope, relying on luck is the same on any distance, same with the damage. Also the multi shot ability thing. -Killing him as fast as possible? Possible, but quite difficult because if he hasn't seen you already with his damn wallhack arrow that he shoots in the most obscure areas then he's likely to : Be pocketed by healers or use his dash and wallclimb to get into the worst for you places possible.
Blizzard please, completely rework or straight up removing that garbage-consuming bowman. I hate him with all my life.

2023.06.05 23:22 aidanwojtas "Hard drive - not installed" error on 7620 - Solution
| TL;DR - Change "AHCI" to "RAID" if you are seeing a "Hard Drive - Not Installed" error. Situation I have a Dell 16 Plus 7620. It came with a 1TB NVME drive. I have replaced it with a HP FX900 Pro 2TB NVME drive and cloned the partitions. Problem Regularly - sometimes several times in one day - the laptop would go a BIOS-looking screen with an error "Hard Drive - Not installed" and play a loud annoying tone. Typically this would happen when it was going into sleep mode, i.e. if I left the laptop for 10min it was highly likely this would happen. I tried re-seating the SSD and that didn't help. Solution (for me at least, ymmv) In the BIOS, in Storage Configuration, I changed the mode from AHCI to RAID, with some prep, as otherwise Windows gets sad and won't boot. To prep for this: - In Windows 11, I used msconfig and the "boot" tab to set the next boot to safe mode.
- Then on restarting I went into the BIOS and changed AHCI to RAID.
- Window 11 booted in Safe Mode.
- I used msconfig and unticked safe mode.
- Then restarted Windows 11 again.

I have tried re-installing the drivers, checked the ink levels, half a dozen test pages. No color.
