Right now I'm extremely suicidal, I feel I have nothing to live for in life and the things I wanted to see I've experienced. I've contacted therapists but their sessions are all within my working hours unfortunately.
I feel worthless because I'm 24M. I've had 1 relationship that lasted 6 months with me being cheated on, I've tried apps but never get anywhere and I've slept with 2 girls. However, I look at others my age and envy how they've had it, more numbers than me, less heart ache and they're not type 1 diabetic like me, they also have friends, they haven't had a tough childhood like I did. Its jealousy.
I'm trying to heal, I train consistently as I'm seeing progress and its the only thing stopping me from killing myself, my other interests that once distracted me no longer do. I've quit watching porn and masturbation. I go the gym, I have 3 close friends, My best friend leaves the country the end of the year and another is suicidal so I don't have many people.
How do I love myself? How do I stop comparing myself? How do I stop feeling abnormal for a low body count and not being a drinkeparty animal and not fitting in.

In brief, this post was me summarizing what I learned about prediction polling, a specific flavor of forecasting, while trying to understand how it could be applied to forecasting global catastrophic risks. Making better estimates with scarce information

I explore the pros and cons of different approaches to estimation. In general I find that:
These differences are only significant in situations of high uncertainty, characterised by a high ratio between confidence interval bounds. Otherwise, simpler approaches (point estimates & the arithmetic mean) are fine.
I am chiefly interested in how we can make better estimates from very limited evidence. Estimation strategies are key to sanity-checks, cost-effectiveness analyses and forecasting.
Speed and accuracy are important considerations when estimating, but so is legibility; we want our work to be easy to understand. This post explores which approaches are more accurate and when the increase in accuracy justifies the increase in complexity.

When we're trying to do AI alignment, we're often studying systems which don't yet exist. This is a pretty weird epistemic activity, and seems really hard to get right. This post offers one frame for thinking about what we're actually doing when we're thinking about AI alignment: using parts of the space of maps to reason about parts of the space of intelligent systems.

We hope that the content is mostly the second kind of obvious: obvious once you see things in this way, which you maybe already do. In our experience, this comes with a risk: reading too fast, you may miss most of the nuance and useful insight the deceptively simple model brings, or come away with a version of the model which is rounded off to something less useful (i.e. "yeah, there is this map and territory distinction"). Is Bill Gates overly optomistic about AI?

Bill Gates's blog recently released an article that framed AI advancements in quite a positive light.
For example he touted many altruistic applications of AI coming in the near future and claimed that "none of the breakthroughs of the past few months have moved us substantially closer to [dangerously] strong AI."
I'm not knowledgable enough to evalaute his claims, and tbh I trust this community's opinion a lot more than Microsoft's, so I wondering if y'all could share your thoughts on this article (it's a 14 min read).

As almost all hormones decline after the age of 30, only a few actually increase and insulin is one of them. Since high insulin levels are synonymus with premature aging, it stands to reason that substances – pharmaceutical or natural – that keep this hormone in check, can also impact aging in a positive manner.

"So I had a thing happen to me a few days ago (domestic violence). And a good portion of my hair has been ripped out.
We are on day 4 and my scalp hurts horribly, you can still see the places where the hair were as little red dots on my scalp and there's constantly chunks of hair coming out of my scalp like this one (I'll post in the comments).
It hurts to brush or touch it, so I'm being extra gentle with it and mostly leaving it alone. Even laying on the pillow hurts (I can only sleep on my side). Most of my bangs and side pieces is gone, which means wonky ass thinned out hairline. I look fkin hideous and I can't bear to look at myself in the mirror.
As you'll see from the photos I have a substantial regrowth and wanted to get it re-dyed soon. It already looks ugly with a big regrowth, but with the lost volume (I've always had very thin sparse hair to begin with) and entire patches of hair from my hairline missing I look like fkin Gollum. But obviously now saving the hairline is more important than dyeing.
If the hairs came out with their bulbs (or whatever it's called in English), will they still grow back? How long will it take? What do I apply? How do I help it grow? How long does it take? Is it even possible? Please, I'm desperate, I can't live like this. I don't want to live like this. I already have a lot of anxiety concerning my looks and a lot of my work depends on my looks, so obviously my anxiety is through the roof now.
And please spare your splaining comments in vein of "omg, go to the police". I've been to the police the night it happened and in the country I'm in they didn't even care enough to confront my abuser to get my things back, needless to say they don't give two sheets about my hair and are not concerned with saving it. I've also been to the doctor the night it happened to assess the injuries, they didn't care to even look at my hair or write it down. This group seems like a more appropriate place to ask for help."

From 2000-2004 I played several thousands of hours on a $100 SSS Squire Strat, a ~$60 amp, and a ~$200 (at the time) DigiTech RP-1 FX processor.
Then got more into synths and PC sequencing. When I plugged the guitar to the PC with a ~$125 audiophile soundcard it was extreme static. I tried shielding the guitar cavity but likely the poor job I did made no difference and I ended up not playing much guitar. I sold the strat + amp for like $50 thinking I'd get a better guitar for the PC, I might have known at the time humbuckers were a bit quieter but also thought I wanted something a bit better like a $500 Ibanez (no idea what pickups) I played at the store seemed to have better action and feel, and looked awesome.
I never got around to upgrading guitars, I just impulse bought one day around 2009 another $100 SSS strat off eBay just to have something. I sold that sort of recently for basically nothing. I don't want the tremolo bar seemed to make it go out of tune and I barely used tremolo (can sort of do with FX pedal) and I installed a floyd rose lock nut that kept giving me problems.

Anyway, from youtube comparisons humbuckers aren't going to be night and day difference for static vs a strat plugged into a computer. Proper shielding is likely most important. I don't think I have any ground issue and I don't have much plugged into the PC besides monitors, keyboard, mouse, printer, USB audio interface, but even ceiling lights etc can affect static.
Whatever I end up getting I'll do a proper shielding.

What I didn't know didn't hurt me because I basically always played the strat with only the neck pickup i.e switch lever all the way up, I thought that sounded fullest and used most of the pickups but was wrong, and I almost never played any other setting besides the bridge pickup alone but thought bridge sounded too twangy and had to put a ton of FX on it to get it sounding how I liked. But surprisingly come to find things like Comfortably Numb solo is played with just the bridge pickup, lots of other things I'm watching youtubers and I was expecting to see more using just the neck pickup. Despite I preferred just the neck pickup, now I want to use other settings.

I really want a humbucker too because although the tone won't be night or day difference vs a SSS, and I'm getting a solid body and not a semi or hollow, I really like Blues guitar which seems to be played on humbucker semi hollows. I like Surf guitar too and I thought that was semi/hollow body humbucker but read it's SSS. I like Dixieland jazz/blues Louisiana black people jazz/blues, "1997 weather channel music blues' (lol YouTube DOES have a playlist), which I thought was semi/hollow body HH but could be wrong. I thought heavy metal/ Metallica was SSS but Metallica is HH, I like like tone like Chile Peppers Under the bridge intro which is Telecaster probably more like a SSS than an HH. We like everything lol.

I like to keep my gear minimal but I think I might be limiting myself if I get a hybrid i.e missing my preferred neck single coil (despite what I know now people aren't using it for basically everything) so if I get a neck single coil I might be missing a tone I prefer with a Humber at the neck, and vice versa bridge.

I'm buying a Boss ME-80 fx processor might have hollow/HH etc emulator and also there's VSTs.
Overall my style if I produce a track is very electronic though and the guitar isn't really the main character and it doesn't have to sound perfect in a certain way, but sometimes I also just want to jam pure guitar.

It seems I should get 2 guitars, one a SSS and the other HH. To be honest, besides the static the $100 Squier Strat sounded great to me, I'd argue that even cheap technology now might be better than what they had in maybe the 60s or something but I really don't know that, just saying, some costs could be placebo affect.
I wanted to buy just one guitar for like $700, went to Sam Ash the other day and played some dual humbuckers and they all sounded great and the same to me whether $250 or $700, and I couldn't even hear a difference from the SSSs I played through this amp.

Guitar Center + Sam Ash rent guitars pretty cheap (maybe only used) which is good but I'm thinking I might just get another $150 SSS. I hear the mexican ones are almost as good for much less but maybe the $150-$200 ones aren't mexican. Plus a HH solid body for like $500 or heck even the $250 sounded great to me but I don't really want to always wish I spent a bit more. I'm reading the difference between pricey and cheap guitars granted there's not some total error made by the builder isn't night and day, yes the neck wood and truss rod could cause a cheaper one to go out of tune more or mess with the action and I'm very partial to the action being nice and low but not buzzing. Also pricier guitars have better hardware etc despite not trmolo bar things like that I just prefer as with anything in construction or something that it's better to overbuild than underbuild.

Should I get both a cheap ~$200 SSS and cheap $200 HH guitar?
Rent an HSS or HSH despite I'll likely be missing tones I really want? I'm not keen on renting though, distracting due date rushing feeling. I'm leaning towards buying a ~$500 HH and I think once I really get to play it without distraction/rush of a rental I'll be able to feel a difference between an SSS, then I can decide how much I want to spend on an SSS, or worst case scenario take a loss for the $500 selling it used and get something more $700 range and/or $700 range SSS, because I'm sure once I start reading the small details between pickups etc for better guitars I'll want to upgrade rather then feel I'm limiting myself.
but I'm still wondering, as mentioned if despite a lot of songs are NOT using just the neck pickup of an SSS like I assumed and preferred that setting, will I then likely prefer to have a Humbucker at the neck too and therefore no hybrid would suit me?

Hi all! So our cat Hank (almost 3) has either seemingly developed a sudden fear of belts or we only just started realizing his fear of belts. Whenever my boyfriend or I take on or off our belt, he runs and hides. This has seemed to escalate lately, but maybe I didn't notice the severity of it before. My boyfriend was the one to put the dots together and pointed out this behavior.
Hank is very cuddly (with me) and playful (with us) otherwise and he has grown more confident (and mischievous) over the last year. But we've noticed he has been a bit more skittish lately too. Both of us are confused about the sudden skittishness, and we're not sure if it's because we got a new cat a couple months back or if it's because we live in an apartment complex and he can hear when people are in the common hallway or if it's something else. None of that (clearly) explains the fear of belts though. Any advice for how to help him feel more comfortable and possibly overcome his skittishness? We don't need him to be super social or anything, just don't want him stressed.
Background context: We adopted him from the shelter about a year ago and we know he was previously adopted into a family with kids. He was returned to the shelter for being too skittish and not kid friendly. Not sure how long he was with them though. We think something happened to him with the kids or men in the house because he is more afraid of my boyfriend than with me, and he is very skittish around men in general. He also hides if there is sudden movement, even if were playing and it all seems good. Maybe the motion of taking on and off belts is just too sudden for him? Not sure. Our lawn needs a lot of love and thought about just hiring someone to aerate and re-seed. We got a quote for $1900 CAD to aerate, cleanup, level and reseed.

I've decided to repost it here on Reddit to preserve it, but to also bring further attention and discussion to the topic. I think if enough discussion is brought to it, perhaps more attention can be brought to it for consideration by 343 to be included in Infinite and/or whatever future Halo project they may release. With all that in mind, here is the post:
My most CRUCIAL suggestion as to how to improve the Battle Pass system would be to let free players continue earning the free rewards from past seasons. It’s unfortunate that this isn’t the case already, and while 343 has been allowed to let previous passes linger and be completed indefinitely if a user pays for a pass, allowing players who don't want to bust out their wallets to be able to access the free tracks in all previous passes would go a long way.
Another suggestion would be to restructure the Battle Pass rewards so that free players are able to get a reward for every single tier on the Battle Pass, whilst still giving Premium Battle Pass owners their respective rewards. Currently, players who do not purchase a Premium Pass are forced to progress through all the Battle Pass whilst only actually being rewarded every few tiers or so. Meanwhile, the Premium Pass owners get a cosmetic reward practically every tier. What I’m suggesting then, is to include a free reward in every tier of the Battle Pass. I understand most of the actual cosmetics need to go to Premium Pass owner, which is fine, they did after all pay for the cosmetics they’re given in return. A suggestion would be including an XP boost in every tier there’s no free cosmetic reward, which would help alleviate free players being left dry of rewards. The game’s current progression as it stands now is incredibly limited, and leaving free players constricted to being rewarded to a lesser extent than their paying peers in what is presently the only form of progression in the game is an incredibly underwhelming sensation.
Destiny 2, for example, has free seasonal rewards for every level achieved whilst also providing additional rewards for those who purchased the season pass. This means even players playing for free are rewarded for each level/tier they complete, encouraging further progression for everyone.
EDIT: A final suggestion would be to restructure the Battle Pass rewards so that duplicate items, i.e. an emblem that can be applied to armor, vehicle, and weapons, do not individually make up levels in the pass more than a select few times. For example, rather than have a single emblem take up 5+ levels as each time it appears in the pass it's for a different weapon, have a single level be the emblem for armor, then have one more level for the emblem on every single vehicle, and finally one last level for the emblem on every single weapon. This makes completing the Battle Pass as a free player feel less like a chore instead of providing a decent sense of progression.
I’d like to hear the community’s thoughts on this and any other suggestions you might have, and hopefully someone on the development end can see this and also consider working towards a more rewarding system for everyone. After all, the players who choose to play the game should be rewarded to the same extent as those who engage with the game monetarily, as both are support the game by playing and by paying.
