2023.03.23 07:17 OsFireTruck Any advice/improvements to my planned credit card stack?

I realized I have high spending and I haven't been getting the best back from my BOA credit card. I'm looking at adding 3 more cards to my wallet for almost all my purchases. These are the Citi Custom Cash, Amex Platinum, and Amex Gold. Details are below for my reasoning. Wanting to get your opinions on my plan and if there is something that I missed that could be bad. I don't have much credit card experience but I am responsible with my money and always pay off my bill so I don't pay interest.

2023.03.23 04:53 Independent-Eye-2826 What bank do you use/prefer

What bank do you prefer
I am curious what other people think about popular United States banks
I currently bank with chase and have for the last 3 years. I really enjoy their app however their customer service is terrible. I am extremely dissatisfied with it. One of my friends banks with US Bank and he swears by it and says they even call him every month or two to check up and ask if he is doing alright and see if there is anything he’s been having troubleshooting issues he’s had. I would really appreciate that great of service and I’ve been in a us bank to see their loan rates and the loan officer there was awesome really great experience. A banks app is very important to me and I want to know any us bank users experiences, pros, cons etc with it.
TLDR: what bank do you use and why. Do they have good customer service or a good app?

2023.03.23 04:40 Sehaga Dispute a claim after not receiving package?

I requested for a package to be delivered to a pick-up point and I got a message that it was delivered and signed by someone called "Amanda" at the pick-up point (CVS). However, when I arrived there and asked for my package, they said they did not have my package and when they contacted that "Amanda" person, she said that she did not sign for anything. I immediately called UPS and filed a claim and informed the seller but now the seller is not replying after he told me he did not insure the package. I asked him for a refund and multiple days have passed. What is the best course of action here? Should I just dispute the charge via my bank (Chase) since I have clear evidence that I never accepted the package or signed for it? I used my credit card to pay for the package.

2023.03.23 03:41 sophia-avon Goldman Sachs also embraces AI after Big Morgan: uses GPT-like technology to help developers write code

Goldman Sachs emphasized that AI should not be seen as a replacement for software developers, but more as a partner to help them be more productive. In some cases, developers have been able to use generative AI to automate up to 40 percent of their code, Goldman said.
Wall Street is embracing artificial intelligence.

After Morgan Stanley tapped into GPT-4 and will use AI technology to optimize its wealth management advisory process, Goldman Sachs has also started using ChatGPT-like AI software to assist developers in writing code internally.

On Tuesday, March 21, Goldman Sachs CIO Marco Argenti said Goldman Sachs developers are testing generative AI tools internally to help them write code. He said it is currently in the "proof-of-concept" stage and is not yet ready for production.

Argenti said on Tuesday:

Goldman Sachs developers are already using some assistive coding techniques.

Goldman Sachs' interest in generative AI products remains, despite opposition from some banking giants to internal use of ChatGPT by employees. That includes JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, Citigroup and Bank of America, which have all restricted employees from using the software at work.

Argenti said:

This technology is still in its early stages. We're not going to let this technology do all the most important work right away, but it's imperative that we really try it and understand its potential.

I've been working with technology for almost 40 years, and this is one of the biggest disruptions I've ever seen - probably comparable to the Internet, apps, cloud computing.

He emphasized that AI should be seen less as a replacement for software developers and more as a partner to help them be more productive. In some cases, he said, developers have been able to write up to 40 percent of their code automatically using generative AI.

It's not just Goldman Sachs that has embraced AI technology, but Morgan Stanley as well.

Last week, OpenAI unveiled six use cases when it released GPT-4, including one in which Morgan Stanley's wealth management division (MSWM) used GPT-4 to organize the mobilization of its client-facing knowledge base.

For its part, Morgan Stanley also said that it is currently "the only strategic wealth management client to have early access to OpenAI's new product" and that its wealth management division will use GPT-4 to "acquire, process and synthesize content in the form of global company, industry, asset class, capital market and regional insights that will be incorporated into MSWM. in the form of insights into global companies, industries, asset classes, capital markets and regions, drawing on MSWM's own extensive intellectual capital."

The market is risky and investment requires caution. This article does not constitute personal investment advice. Please write privately if you need more advice.

2023.03.23 03:28 General-Exit-3015 Earnest Deposit Wire Transfer Delayed

My husband and I got our offer accepted 2 days ago (Monday). The escrow company reached out yesterday (Tuesday) with the earnest deposit amount of $16,500 due tomorrow. My husband and I have 3 bank accounts including our joint account (AMEX). I transferred $2000 from my Chase savings account to Amex to complete the wire amount and was told that it would take 4-5 business days after the deposit is initiated for funds to be available to wire. That brings us to next Tuesday at the latest. Will this effect anything? I’m super nervous that the seller will back out.
Our mortgage lender and realtor told my husband and I not to move any money around until they tell us to. But we weren’t equating transfer time etc. is there anything we can do? We feel that we might lose out on the house.
Back story: We were pre-approved for $600,000. We are putting 5% down. We originally put in an offer on this place (which hadn’t received an offer in 20 days). My husband and I put in an offer a bit below asking and at the last minute an older couple put an offer in at asking price. The seller requested a best and final offer as a counter. We offered $11,000 over asking price and the seller passed on us for the older couple who countered lower than us apparently. Following the inspection, (which went fine) the older couple backed out stating that the property required too much walking to get from place to place. ~The seller stated that they were worried that we didn’t have a strong down payment like the older couple (20%). Even though our mortgage lender confirmed with their agent that we did have enough funds. 🤷‍♀️~ Our accepted offer is still over asking and I’m not sure if the delay is transfer will cause a problem.

2023.03.23 03:15 justasadlittleotter Credit Card Recommendation Request

Hey all. I'm super new to this, so I appreciate your help (and patience!).
My lifestyle probably looks different and confusing, so try not to go too hard on me! I'm currently traveling full-time in my van in Australia, but I'm from the US and will likely return there this year. My income varies widely based on year and location. I sort of just make enough to support myself.
I'm conscious of good credit and would like to move further in that direction.
I'm sincerely appreciative of any suggestions you have for me. Thank you in advance for your time.

2023.03.23 03:12 Ambitious_Fig_8039 Lost my scam virginity. I feel dumb af for falling for it, but I ask your advice to ensure I'm doing everything i should be to protect myself.

Hello, friends, let's cut to the chase. I was scammed by a remote job ad on Indeed. Live Chat Agent was the title, and it included some adminiatrative assistant duties along with it. The interview was arranged on Zoom. Not video chat. Just instant messaging chat. Count that as red flag #1 that I didn't see then. Asked me a bunch of normal interview questions, I answered them, blah blah blah. Says I'm perfect for the position and hires me same day. Red flag #2. Next morning, sends me an offer letter and w4 form to fill out. OVER ZOOM CHAT because apparently their email server was having difficulties and it would take days to be operable again. I, a fool, fills it out and sends it back. Along with sending my address, name, phone number for their records or whatever. I am told they will be mailing me a check to purchase the equipment I will need to work from home. I.e. a printer, a scanner, and a time tracker with high speed internet connection to track my hours and shit. Im kinda sus, but overall still on the dumb girl juice at this point.
Next day, today, they send me a check for $4,880. My partner asks me to get more info on how I'd be paying that back, the man says "oh no, that money is for your working equipment. We understand the sacrifices one must make for company success". Also, he said I have to be the one to buy this equipment, so my name is on the receipts, as the equipment eventually becomes mine. Red flag #3 for me.
Anywho, the check, I try to deposit it over mobile, it exceeds their amount limit, which I didn't know. They call me and express concerns that it may be fraudulent, so some of my defenses go up on this guy. He seems pretty intent that I get this money in TODAY. I go to the bank in person and they say they placed a 7 day hold on it so they can be sure it's real. I'm good with that. This man is not good with that. More alarm bells start goin off for me. Starts questioning whether my bank is trustworthy. Insists it's a good check and needs to go through today. All the while, I'm chatting with my partner about everything, cuz we share the bank account. Im telling him everything, and he says that he is 100% certain I'm being scammed. Bank calls me back and lays it down, like this is what's gonna happen, the scammer is going to give you this fake money. It deposits into your account, they direct you to a website they created, you buy their equipment with your money. Once you input your banking/card info, then they have it and drain you dry and ghost you. Things started lining up for me. Way back, I asked him what vendor I'd be buying from, and he says "ill tell you the vendor at the appropriate time" sus. The fact that sometimes he had some broken english/grammar mistakes that are not typical of a stereotype older white guy, like his photograph suggested he was. I didn't respond to him, deleted Zoom, as he was the only reason i got zoom in the first place, and seeing messages from him were stressing me out. I express to the bank that I am certain this is a scam, they put a fraud alert on it. My bank app says the money is still being held, but during business hours tomorrow, I'm going to call them back and have them cancel it completely if they haven't already. I put a freeze on all my credit reports. I'm currently researching what to do if he got my SSN. The copy i have of the w4 doesnt have it written on there by me, but I wanna be sure to protect myself.
This is all over the place and I'm sorry, but I've been panicking, this is my first time falling for a scam and it's terrifying. I am super fortunate that the bank caught it in time before it deposited and any of that money got touched. I would have fallen for it and gotten wrecked.
But. If there's anything else I should be doing to protect myself and my money.. please do tell. Thank you so much in advance. P.S. Sorry this is so long omfg

2023.03.23 03:02 RedditingAtWork5 Does your bank make any money from you using their credit card if you pay the balance in full each month?

I want to make a distinction here.
Say I have a credit card from Chase. They're the bank loaning me the money. I understand that the actual card company (Visa, MC, Amex etc.) gets a cut. But I'm asking specifically about the bank loaning the money. If they don't get to charge me interest, do they make any money? Do they get a cut per transaction like the card company does?
I ask because I have a significant amount of stock in my bank and was wondering whether my credit card use (while paying off in full each month) helps or harns the company.

2023.03.23 02:57 Kornkat2020 Dumb question, is there an account option like Chase First Banking that I could open for my wife?

Long story short, I want an account for my wife who's a stay at home mother where I can transfer money for her to spend on daily necessities/wants/etc. I need to keep that spending separate from the current checking account that I manage, but there's not a good option outside of opening another standard checking account and paying the monthly fee for lack of meeting the direct deposit requirements or trying to open a chase first account with her registered as a child. Any ideas?

Last week I got a new car I went to a dealership and I got everything approved through Chase through their program I show them the email they said The bank's not going to support it and they ran my credit and they ended up signing me up for their finance. So now I'm stuck paying their rates but they lied to me and said that the bank didn't approve the full amount. do I have way to manaever this? My banks rate were a lot cheaper

2023.03.23 02:26 throwawaylurker012 Money Market Fund (MMF) Watch!! JPM & BlackRock put up recent new messages, including pushing MMFs on their fund pages in the wake of SVB's collapse that I haven't seen before. Is this just "sleazy car salesman" selling, or something else? Need some eyes!

Money Market Fund (MMF) Watch!! JPM & BlackRock put up recent new messages, including pushing MMFs on their fund pages in the wake of SVB's collapse that I haven't seen before. Is this just
Hi y'all, just checking in with something that might need some extra eyes on.

https://preview.redd.it/hl0k5rtg3epa1.png?width=1170&format=png&auto=webp&s=f6f72b678d6473c6c326bf4a530e41409466003b
For those unfamiliar, I wrote some posts on money market funds ages ago (https://www.reddit.com/Superstonk/comments/vc4r0w/099509975_the_depegging_danger_zone_pt_2_and_what/?sort=new) and how they "depegged" during the 2008 crash, just like Terra/Luna did some months back.

As such, ever since that post have been checking money market funds from a couple different places to see if any changes happen...I've been trying to do this every week if possible but haven't had much to report because haven't seen fuck all.

The biggest change I'm looking for is "depegging"...what's that mean in this instance? I wrote this back then:

  • When you transfer money from your checking account to a big broker like Fidelity or Vanguard, any unused money not spent buying GME just sits there. This money doesn't actually just sit there as cash, but instead you have shares of a money market fund (like Fidelity's SPAXX) where you have a number of shares equal your cash position. A $100 deposit to Fidelity gives me 100 shares of SPAXX, each worth $1.
  • In theory, we can think of SPAXX--or any money market fund (MMF) available to retail--and its shares as being quite similar to stable coins (SPAXX shares = SPAXX "stable coins"). They are usually backed by assets where $1 of SPAXX "stable coins"/shares is backed by $1 of assets, which can include assets pulled from the overnight reverse repo, where MMFs make up over 90% of use for it.
  • In a now infamous example, crypto founder Do Kwon created his own stable coin Terra where 1 share/"stable coin" = $1...but eventually 1 Terra stable coin was no longer worth $1. In crypto, this is called "depegging", where 1 stable coin =/= $1. In finance and money market funds, this is called "breaking the buck".

https://preview.redd.it/rb5mmz2t3epa1.png?width=1626&format=png&auto=webp&s=995ef1b8debf3dab52d9419d8c2a4824a9cabd91
To most of the funds I've been tracking and their credit, they seem to not be shitting the bed (the NAV or money market fund shares' "worth" was ticking down A LOT MORE tail end of last year), and they seem to have sufficient capital/collateral to back their money market funds.

HOWEVER, new messages have started to crop up on certain funds, Could be harmless (closing of certain lines, just regular selling), or just warping old crime into new. Here's JPM:

https://preview.redd.it/4uy6zmd24epa1.png?width=2180&format=png&auto=webp&s=b627295a0f9c6f529e49e0a614d1d770c8069d5b
As of a few months' back, this was never there (nor announced) then just seemed to happen.
Here's BlackRock. This just started cropping up, and it seems to be perhaps referencing all the bank crashes.

https://preview.redd.it/icn8kc084epa1.png?width=2004&format=png&auto=webp&s=f3e70f32cc0f423b63d001d51bc0aa5d32a33a3a

The text from above:
Cash is the lifeblood of organizations. A unique combination of fiscal and monetary policy, geopolitical unrest and economic uncertainty is prompting investors to rapidly reconsider their cash investment and liquidity strategies.
Many investors are positioned defensively or have elevated need for liquidity, keeping ample cash on hand. With central banks increasing rates rapidly following years of a zero or even negative interest rate environment, investors are able to earn appreciable returns on their cash investments for the first time in many years. In our view, the backdrop of ongoing inflation and potential further interest rate hikes necessitates prudent duration and liquidity management as well as the need to diversify cash and liquidity focused investments.
Money market funds (MMFs) can help investors navigate these market conditions, providing daily access to liquidity while also offering a diversified or government-risk portfolio rather than concentrated counterparty exposure.

me reading black rock's bullshit rn
Cash solutions for today's cash investors details the range of MMFs available in your region.
In addition to MMFs, BlackRock also offers a wide array of investment solutions spanning Mutual Funds and ETFs that seek to meet the unique liquidity and return needs of our client
Sooooo Money market funds, which tanked in 08 (some as bad as dropping nearly 10%) are being pushed by BlackRock (and perhaps JPM?).

Could this be related to the reverse repo market as well which has started ticking back up? Remember kids, MONEY MARKET FUNDS ARE THE BIGGEST USER OF THE REVERSE REPO PROGRAM.

courtesy of the tracer of PC's above
Anyways, needed some eyes, wrinkles and thoughts.

And last thing, wanted to ask: has anyone followed up on JPM's Onyx program? I also wrote about them here: https://www.reddit.com/Superstonk/comments/ywf41j/onyx_is_jp_morgan_using_its_onyx_program_to/

https://preview.redd.it/9ij8f0645epa1.png?width=1152&format=png&auto=webp&s=0745892a94a0e68cd64e91629d3adcb77e4c51be
The TL;DR should show my worry back then, and may relate again to this new push by BlackRock:
TL;DR:
  • With [redacted's find**, there may be a chance that JP Morgan Chase is "tokenizing" BlackRock's MMF (Money Market Fund) shares into crypto shares so that they can effectively either (a) pull another money grab or--worse and more likely--(b) effectively use these new BlackRock tokenized MMF shares as collateral BECAUSE they are propped up by treasuries (i.e. the overnight repo market).*\*
  • JPM has already tokenized at least 300B worth of treasuries earlier this year using Onyx in the repo market. Onyx smart contracts allow for users to not have to wait for "overnight" use so that they can grab treasuries whenever they need them, where the process is "automated" and "debt securities don't even need to leave balance sheets".
  • They're not the only ones working on such projects: Arca Labs & Securitize Partners are working on a tokenized US Treasury fund which sounds like more bullshit.
  • After following up on an old-post by [redacted]***, these Onyx smart contracts are probably run through atomic swaps. Atomic swaps hinge on what's called an HTLC (hashed timelock contract) where once the smart contract is executed, a timer starts and the funds have time to swap without an intermediary (wallet-to-wallet).***\*
They've been fast pushing Onyx, starting blockchain linked accounts with GIFT in India (https://www.ledgerinsights.com/jp-morgan-dollar-blockchain-accounts-india-gift-city/), and opening a crypto lab in Athens too (https://greekreporter.com/2023/02/23/jp-morgan-crypto-lab-athens/).

Anyways, hope someone can help with the weird JPM/BlackRock messages above!

EDIT 1: Looks like the brochure that BlackRock is using in that msg is from 2022 (https://www.blackrock.com/cash/literature/brochure/cash-solutions-for-todays-cash-investor.pdf?elq_mid=78194&elq_cid=348540&elq_cmp=&elqTrackId=a151e458afbc42bca0b5c517ba640087&elq=c4f93ee7985243e193bef04ecf3311c0&elqaid=78194&elqat=1&elqCampaignId=). Maybe doesn't mean much, but could be just finding a way to take advantage of the situation...(then again, it is BlackRock...)
