2023.03.23 10:10 JustMolasses7297 Advice for investing at a young age

Before I start I just want to say thank you to anyone who reads all of this and responds with any sort of help!
I’m 21 years of age and I finished my apprenticeship a month ago. My take home (after tax) salary will be anywhere from £50-60k. Of course that is a decent amount of money for someone my age to be earning and I want to take full advantage of it and put it in the right places so I’m seeking some advice for where my money can go to gain a steady return instead of it losing money in the bank.
I have a very small amount in crypto (around £1k) but looking to DCA into plenty of cryptos ready for the next bull run. I have a few cryptos on my list I will be investing in but any recommendations would be much appreciated.
Stocks…I’ll be honest I have no idea about stocks and shares, complete beginner with all of that.
Property…my plan is for at the end of the year me and my friend are going to start flipping houses together. I have researched into it and a bridging loan seems like a very good idea for us to be able to purchase a property above our current budget so that we can then save some money for refurbishments. Any advice along with that knowledge would be appreciated!
I also currently am also learning to day trade (forex/indices/commodities) and once I am earning a good amount from that I will be looking to also filter some profits into solid investments. I don’t know too much about investing and where my money can go hence why I’m seeking advice. Any help/advice/guidance is highly appreciated :)

Original Post
My husband cheated so I told everyone
He has nothing right now and definitely doesn't care. I'm 7 months pregnant now but when I was 5 months I found out he was cheating... while I was I the hospital with pneumonia. I just posted about my mom but I kind of want to get everything off my chest.
He is adopted but knows his biological family. I told his adopted family, biological family, my family, my friends, his friends, etc. A lot came out when I found out. I found out he cheated on every girlfriend he's had. I'm now friends with his ex's (who he lied to about everything as well. He told me he wasn't in contact with them and they found out about me when his mom died and I was in her obituary because - shocker - she's my MIL).
He says I ruined his life. I want to. He's hiding like a coward. He won't answer messages from anyone. He tried telling my mother that he spoke to an attorney and I made him feel guilty for not being happy when he mentioned it (never happened. In fact when I asked if he was cheating, he swore on his mother's grave he wasn't - a lie). There's so much to this story but I just don't understand how some people can do this.
He wanted his perfect wife and kids, and his little girlfriend on the side. He was never going to leave me and now he's not responding to my divorce attorney. I want him out of my life, since he was so unhappy. But suddenly he's too busy for the divorce he claims he wants (or at started claiming when I kicked him out of the house. When I told him to leave because he was cheating, he told me he's "been unhappy a long time and spoke to a lawyer a month ago but didn't know how to tell me".... so he cheated and lied to hide it for weeks).
He wanted the baby I'm pregnant with (I didn't want another for 2 more years) but now that we're not together, he says it's my choice and I can have full custody.
He's mad at me because his affair partner was also cheating on her boyfriend and I told said boyfriend. Apparently, because I did that, my husband doesn't have to apologize for what he did to me because I'm trying to ruin his and his new girlfriends life. He said he's not sorry, he doesn't regret it, and he's "accepted what he's done" and I need to get over it. But he can't even say the words "I cheated". Just "you don't know my side" and "I've accepted what I've done".
I want him to suffer like I am. And he has no one. But, I know he doesn't care because he's twisted it in his mind so that he's justified because I told everyone what he did so clearly I'm the bad guy. If he had a side, he would tell his whole family so that they wouldn't hate him but instead he blocks their numbers. He knows he can't lie to anyone who can ask me because I have all the proof and anything he says I can disprove so he says nothing. Yet, insists he's not in the wrong.
I really know how to pick them. Now I'm a single mom of two.
More info in the comments:
I felt like if I didn't then it would give him a chance to convince me that it was my fault somehow. Now I have even his family at my back telling me to not ever take him back and that honestly is a big help to keeping me from breaking down and trying to "fix" him so my family can be whole.
.
His brother logged into his Facebook and made a post about what he did so he deleted his Facebook the next morning lol
.
When we got together I told him cheating was my HARD LINE. No forgiveness. He said he understand because he's been cheated on (lie), little did I know he had a girlfriend when we got together... I still don't understand how he thought that was okay somehow.
.
Based on new evidence I believe the AP knew about me and they had some sort of "we both have partners so we both have something to lose" agreement but when I first messaged her (after she stopped ignoring me the first 2 days) she said "He says that he's divorcing you and the baby isn't his".
Update 7 months later
This is kind of a small update, but I was excited and remembered this account, so I wanted to say that you don't have to be healed for things to be better.
Good things can still happen even if you're sad.
Thus far, I have gotten a pay raise at work, and come the new year, I'll be promoted and take over my own store with another pay raise. I've been going out more and enjoying myself. I have concert tickets and hockey tickets that I'm very excited about. I had my son in October, and in January, I started eating healthier, and I've lost 20 lbs so far. I'm seeing someone, sort of. We are exclusive, on accident... just kind of stopped seeing others in favor of each other, but not official, and he makes me smile.
I went to the dealership we got our cars from and found out that ex has been telling people that I cheated and was abusive. They gave me a free oil change because they felt so bad when I broke down. I proved that was a lie and talked to them for a while. I knew he would do that, but it's nice to have proof, and it's exactly why I kept everything I had.
As for my husband... the judge officially signed the divorce decree in January! I've been NC with him since June 2022, so I wasn't getting a lot of updates there until the (now) EX-affair partner messaged me. I knew that his car has a repo order on it and that he was struggling dating but that he had "found someone." He has his whole family blocked. But on Thanksgiving, she messaged me that she had left him, and she was sorry. I didn't message her back until this month because I just wasn't ready, but I did and found out that he's been fired from 3 jobs since I left him and now he doesn't have her either.
I do think he's seeing someone, and I think I figured out who, but I don't want to be involved even though I want to warn her. I'm torn, but I decided to let him do as he does because I don't want to give him a reason to reach out.
He has reached out to my mother once because he was posted in a toxic men Facebook group with a warning for other girls and decided it was me. Even then, he didn't even ask how our son was. He has never met him or seen him or asked about him. My in-laws are still my family, and my grandmother in law calls every week to talk to me. My aunt and sister-in-law are coming to my oldest son's birthday so he can see his cousins on that side and they can see me.
So, in all, I'm doing good, and he is not. But, I am not official with the guy I'm seeing for a couple of reasons. I am still paranoid, anxious, and stressed. I don't fully trust my instincts. I am aware of all of that. Better things are still happening, and I am sure it will get better. I am excited to one day be fully healed AND living a good life. I don't know how long that will take, but that's okay.
The only thing besides all that is that he has yet to pay child support or any of the money he was ordered to pay in the divorce so we will have to go back to court to enforce that. Who knows what hell that will bring.
Edit: Thank you for the award! I feel the love and support from the comments, and I appreciate every single one of you. I can only hope that if someone who is struggling to leave a situation like mine reads this, they find that strength and respect for themselves to go. Never stay with someone who hurts you. It's not worth it.
In the comments:
Small update? This is tremendous! You’re free of him and tracking upwards. Well done you.
OP: Thank you! I felt it was small because I only did what I said I would, but I'll admit the amount of joy I felt when the judge signed is comparable to very little. And I'm doing good, if a little strung out emotionally.
I'm flairing this ongoing as OOP mentioned having to go back to court

2023.03.23 10:06 WillIeverfindtheway On The Pure Subject Of Knowing.

The comprehension of an Idea, the entrance of it into our consciousness, is only possible by means of a change in us, which might also be regarded as an act of self-denial; for it consists in this, that knowledge turns away altogether from our own will, thus now leaves out of sight entirely the valuable pledge intrusted to it, and considers things as if they could never concern the will at all. For thus alone does knowledge become a pure mirror of the objective nature of things. Knowledge conditioned in this way must lie at the foundation of every genuine work of art as its origin. The change in the subject which is required for this cannot proceed from the will, just because it consists in the elimination of all volition; thus it can be no act of the will, i.e., it cannot lie in our choice. On the contrary, it springs only from a temporary preponderance of the intellect over the will, or, physiologically considered, from a strong excitement of the perceptive faculty of the brain, without any excitement of the desires or emotions. To explain this somewhat more accurately I remind the reader that our consciousness has two sides; partly, it is a consciousness of our own selves, which is the will; partly a consciousness of other things, and as such primarily, knowledge, through perception, of the external world, the apprehension of objects. Now the more one side of the whole consciousness comes to the front, the more the other side withdraws. Accordingly, the consciousness of other things, thus knowledge of perception, becomes the more perfect, i.e., the more objective, the less we are conscious of ourselves at the time. Here exists an actual antagonism. The more we are conscious of the object, the less we are conscious of the subject; the more, on the other hand, the latter occupies our consciousness, the weaker and more imperfect is our perception of the external world. The state which is required for pure objectivity of perception has partly permanent conditions in the perfection of the brain and the general physiological qualities favourable to its activity, partly temporary conditions, inasmuch as such a state is favoured by all that increases the attention and heightens the susceptibility of the cerebral nervous system, yet without exciting any passion. One must not think here of spirituous drinks or opium; what is rather required is a night of quiet sleep, a cold bath, and all that procures for the brain activity an unforced predominance by quieting the circulation and calming the passions. It is especially these natural means of furthering the cerebral nervous activity which bring it about, certainly so much the better the more developed and energetic in general the brain is, that the object separates itself ever more from the subject, and finally introduces the state of pure objectivity of perception, which of itself eliminates the will from consciousness, and in which all things stand before us with increased clearness and distinctness, so that we are conscious almost only of them and scarcely at all of ourselves; thus our whole consciousness is almost nothing more than the medium through which the perceived object appears in the world as an idea. Thus it is necessary for pure, will-less knowledge that the consciousness of ourselves should vanish, since the consciousness of other things is raised to such a pitch. For we only apprehend the world in a purely objective manner when we no longer know that we belong to it; and all things appear the more beautiful the more we are conscious merely of them and the less we are conscious of ourselves. Since now all suffering proceeds from the will, which constitutes the real self, with the withdrawal of this side of consciousness all possibility of suffering is also abolished; therefore the condition of the pure objectivity of perception is one which throughout gives pleasure; and hence I have shown that in it lies one of the two constituent elements of æsthetic satisfaction. As soon, on the other hand, as the consciousness of our own self, thus subjectivity, i.e., the will, again obtains the upper hand, a proportional degree of discomfort or unrest also enters; of discomfort, because our corporealness (the organism which in itself is the will) is again felt; of unrest, because the will, on the path of thought, again fills the consciousness through wishes, emotions, passions, and cares. For the will, as the principle of subjectivity, is everywhere the opposite, nay, the antagonist of knowledge. The greatest concentration of subjectivity consists in the act of will proper, in which therefore we have the most distinct consciousness of our own self. All other excitements of the will are only preparations for this; the act of will itself is for subjectivity what for the electric apparatus is the passing of the spark. Every bodily sensation is in itself an excitement of the will, and indeed oftener of the noluntas than of the voluntas. The excitement of the will on the path of thought is that which occurs by means of motives; thus here the subjectivity is awakened and set in play by the objectivity itself. This takes place whenever any object is apprehended no longer in a purely objective manner, thus without participation in it, but, directly or indirectly, excites desire or aversion, even if it is only by means of a recollection, for then it acts as a motive in the widest sense of the word. I remark here that abstract thinking and reading, which are connected with words, belong indeed in the wider sense to the consciousness of other things, thus to the objective employment of the mind; yet only indirectly, by means of conceptions. But the latter are the artificial product of the reason, and are therefore already a work of intention. Moreover, the will is the ruler of all abstract exercise of the mind, for, according to its aims, it imparts the direction, and also fixes the attention; therefore such mental activity is always accompanied by some effort; and this presupposes the activity of the will. Thus complete objectivity of consciousness does not exist with this kind of mental activity, as it accompanies the æsthetic apprehension, i.e., the knowledge of the Ideas, as a condition.
In accordance with the above, the pure objectivity of perception, by virtue of which no longer the individual thing as such, but the Idea of its species is known, is conditioned by the fact that one is no longer conscious of oneself, but only of the perceived objects, so that one's own consciousness only remains as the supporter of the objective existence of these objects. What increases the difficulty of this state, and therefore makes it more rare, is, that in it the accident (the intellect) overcomes and annuls the substance (the will), although only for a short time. Here also lies the analogy and, indeed, the relationship of this with the denial of the will expounded at the end of the following book. Although knowledge, as was shown in the preceding book, is sprung from the will and is rooted in the manifestation of the will, the organism, yet it is just by the will that its purity is disturbed, as the flame is by the fuel and its smoke. It depends upon this that we can only apprehend the purely objective nature of things, the Ideas which appear in them, when we have ourselves no interest in them, because they stand in no relation to our will. From this, again, it arises that the Ideas of anything appeal to us more easily from a work of art than from reality. For what we behold only in a picture or in poetry stands outside all possibility of having any relation to our will; for in itself it exists only for knowledge and appeals immediately to knowledge alone. On the other hand, the apprehension of Ideas from reality assumes some measure of abstraction from our own volition, arising above its interests which demands a special power of the intellect. In a high degree, and for some duration, this belongs only to genius, which consists indeed in this, that a greater measure of the power of knowledge exists than is required for the service of an individual will, and this surplus becomes free, and now comprehends the world without reference to the will. Thus that the work of art facilitates so greatly the apprehension of the Ideas, in which æsthetic satisfaction consists, depends not merely upon the fact that art, by giving prominence to what is essential and eliminating what is unessential, presents the things more distinctly and characteristically, but just as much on the fact that the absolute silence of the will, which is demanded for the purely objective comprehension of the nature of the things, is attained with the greatest certainty when the perceived object itself lies entirely outside the province of things which are capable of having a relation to the will, because it is nothing real, but a mere picture. Now this holds good, not only of the works of plastic and pictorial art, but also of poetry; the effect of which is also conditioned by indifferent, will-less, and thereby purely objective apprehension. It is exactly this which makes a perceived object picturesque, an event of actual life poetical; for it is only this that throws over the objects of the real world that magic gleam which in the case of sensibly perceived objects is called the picturesque, and in the case of those which are only perceived in imagination is called the poetical. If poets sing of the blithe morning, the beautiful evening, the still moonlight night, and many such things, the real object of their praise is, unknown to themselves, the pure subject of knowledge which is called forth by those beauties of nature, and on the appearance of which the will vanishes from consciousness, and so that peace of heart enters which, apart from this, is unattainable in the world. How otherwise, for example, could the verse— “Nox erat, at cœlo fulgebat luna sereno, Inter minora sidera,” 'It was night, and the moon was shining in the serene heavens garlanded by small stars." affect us so delightfully and beneficially, nay, so magically? Further, that the stranger or the mere passing traveller feels the picturesque or poetical effect of objects which are unable to produce this effect upon those who live among them may be explained from the fact that the novelty and complete strangeness of the objects of such an indifferent, purely objective apprehension are favourable to it. Thus, for example, the sight of an entirely strange town often makes a specially agreeable impression upon the traveller, which it by no means produces in the inhabitant of it; for it arises from the fact that the former, being out of all relation to this town and its inhabitants, perceives it purely objectively. Upon this depends partly the pleasure of travelling. This seems also to be the reason why it is sought to increase the effect of narrative or dramatic works by transferring the scene to distant times or lands: in Germany, to Italy or Spain; in Italy, to Germany, Poland, or even Holland. If now perfectly objective, intuitive apprehension, purified from all volition, is the condition of the enjoyment of æsthetic objects, so much the more is it the condition of their production. Every good picture, every genuine poem, bears the stamp of the frame of mind described. For only what has sprung from perception, and indeed from purely objective perception, or is directly excited by it, contains the living germ from which genuine and original achievements can grow up: not only in plastic and pictorial art, but also in poetry, nay, even in philosophy. The punctum saliens of every beautiful work, of every great or profound thought, is a purely objective perception. Such perception, however, is absolutely conditioned by the complete silence of the will, which leaves the man simply the pure subject of knowledge. The natural disposition for the predominance of this state is genius.
With the disappearance of volition from consciousness, the individuality also, and with it its suffering and misery, is really abolished. Therefore I have described the pure subject of knowledge which then remains over as the eternal eye of the world, which, although with very different degrees of clearness, looks forth from all living creatures, untouched by their appearing and passing away, and thus, as identical with itself, as constantly one and the same, is the supporter of the world of permanent Ideas, i.e., of the adequate objectivity of the will; while the individual subject, whose knowledge is clouded by the individuality which springs from the will, has only particular things as its object, and is transitory as these themselves. In the sense here indicated a double existence may be attributed to every one. As will, and therefore as individual, he is only one, and this one exclusively, which gives him enough to do and to suffer. As the purely objective perceiver, he is the pure subject of knowledge in whose consciousness alone the objective world has its existence; as such he is all things so far as he perceives them, and in him is their existence without burden or inconvenience. It is his existence, so far as it exists in his idea; but it is there without will. So far, on the other hand, as it is will, it is not in him. It is well with every one when he is in that state in which he is all things; it is ill with him when in the state in which he is exclusively one. Every state, every man, every scene of life, requires only to be purely objectively apprehended and be made the subject of a sketch, whether with pencil or with words, in order to appear interesting, charming, and enviable; but if one is in it, if one is it oneself, then (it is often a case of) may the devil endure it. Therefore Goethe says— “What in life doth only grieve us, That in art we gladly see.”
There was a period in the years of my youth when I was always trying to see myself and my action from without, and picture it to myself; probably in order to make it more enjoyable to me.
As I have never spoken before on the subject I have just been considering, I wish to add a psychological illustration of it. In the immediate perception of the world and of life we consider things, as a rule, merely in their relations, consequently according to their relative and not their absolute nature and existence. For example, we will regard houses, ships, machines, and the like with the thought of their end and their adaptation to it; men, with the thought of their relation to us, if they have any such; and then with that of their relations to each other, whether in their present action or with regard to their position and business, judging perhaps their fitness for it, and so on. Such a consideration of the relations we can follow more or less far to the most distant links of their chain: the consideration will thereby gain in accuracy and extent, but in its quality and nature it remains the same: It is the consideration of things in their relations, nay, by means of these, thus according to the principle of sufficient reason. Every one, for the most part and as a rule, is given up to this method of consideration; indeed I believe that most men are capable of no other. But if, as an exception, it happens that we experience a momentary heightening of the intensity of our intuitive intelligence, we at once see things with entirely different eyes, in that we now apprehend them no longer according to their relations, but according to that which they are in and for themselves, and suddenly perceive their absolute existence apart from their relative existence. At once every individual represents its species; and accordingly we now apprehend the universal of every being. Now what we thus know are the Ideas of things; but out of these there now speaks a higher wisdom than that which knows of mere relations. And we also have then passed out of the relations, and have thus become the pure subject of knowledge. But what now exceptionally brings about this state must be internal physiological processes, which purify the activity of the brain, and heighten it to such a degree that a sudden spring-tide of activity like this ensues. The external conditions of this are that we remain completely strange to the scene to be considered, and separated from it, and are absolutely not actively involved in it. In order to see that a purely objective, and therefore correct, comprehension of things is only possible when we consider them without any personal participation in them, thus when the will is perfectly silent, let one call to mind how much every emotion or passion disturbs and falsifies our knowledge, indeed how every inclination and aversion alters, colours, and distorts not only the judgment, but even the original perception of things. Let one remember how when we are gladdened by some fortunate occurrence the whole world at once assumes a bright colour and a smiling aspect, and, on the contrary, looks gloomy and sad when we are pressed with cares; also, how even a lifeless thing, if it is to be made use of in doing something which we abhor, seems to have a hideous physiognomy; for example, the scaffold, the fortress, to which we have been brought, the surgeon's cases of instruments; the travelling carriage of our loved one, and so on;, nay, numbers, letters, seals, may seem to grin upon us horribly and affect us as fearful monstrosities. On the other hand, the tools for the accomplishment of our wishes at once appear to us agreeable and pleasing; for example, the hump-backed old woman with the love-letter, the Jew with the louis d'ors, the rope-ladder to escape by, and so on. As now here the falsification of the idea through the will in the case of special abhorrence or love is unmistakable, so is it present in a less degree in every object which has any even distant relation to our will, that is, to our desire or aversion. Only when the will with its interests has left consciousness, and the intellect freely follows its own laws, and as pure subject mirrors the objective world, yet in doing so, although spurred on by no volition, is of its own inclination in the highest state of tension and activity, do the colours and forms of things appear in their true and full significance. Thus it is from such comprehension alone that genuine works of art can proceed whose permanent worth and ever renewed approval arises simply from the fact that they express the purely objective element, which lies at the foundation of and shines through the different subjective, and therefore distorted, perceptions, as that which is common to them all and alone stands fast; as it were the common theme of all those subjective variations. For certainly the nature which is displayed before our eyes exhibits itself very differently in different minds; and as each one sees it so alone can he repeat it, whether with the pencil or the chisel, or with words and gestures on the stage. Objectivity alone makes one capable of being an artist; but objectivity is only possible in this way, that the intellect, separated from its root the will, moves freely, and yet acts with the highest degree of energy. To the youth whose perceptive intellect still act with fresh energy nature often exhibits itself with complete objectivity, and therefore with perfect beauty. But the pleasure of such a glance is sometimes disturbed by the saddening reflection that the objects present which exhibit themselves in such beauty do not stand in a personal relation to this will, by virtue of which they could interest and delight him; he expects his life in the form of an interesting romance. “Behind that jutting cliff the well-mounted band of friends should await me,—beside that waterfall my love should rest; this beautifully lighted building should be her dwelling, and that vine-clad window hers;—but this beautiful world is for me a desert!” and so on. Such melancholy youthful reveries really demand something exactly contradictory to themselves; for the beauty with which those objects present themselves depends just upon the pure objectivity, i.e., disinterestedness of their perception, and would therefore at once be abolished by the relation to his own will which the youth painfully misses, and thus the whole charm which now affords him pleasure, even though alloyed with a certain admixture of pain, would cease to exist. The same holds good, moreover, of every age and every relation; the beauty of the objects of a landscape which now delights us would vanish if we stood in personal relations to them, of which we remained always conscious. Everything is beautiful only so long as it does not concern us. (We are not speaking here of sensual passion, but of æsthetic pleasure.) Life is never beautiful, but only the pictures of life are so in the transfiguring mirror of art or poetry; especially in youth, when we do not yet know it. Many a youth would receive great peace of mind if one could assist him to this knowledge. Why has the sight of the full moon such a beneficent, quieting, and exalting effect? Because the moon is an object of perception, but never of desire: “The stars we yearn not after Delight us with their glory.”— Goethe. Further, it is sublime, i.e., it induces a lofty mood in us, because, without any relation to us, it moves along for ever strange to earthly doings, and sees all while it takes part in nothing. Therefore, at the sight of it the will, with its constant neediness, vanishes from consciousness, and leaves a purely knowing consciousness behind. Perhaps there is also mingled here a feeling that we share this sight with millions, whose individual differences are therein extinguished, so that in this perception they are one, which certainly increases the impression of the sublime. Finally, this is also furthered by the fact that the moon lights without heating, in which certainly lies the reason why it has been called chaste and identified with Diana. In consequence of this whole beneficent impression upon our feeling, the moon becomes gradually our bosom friend. The sun, again, never does so; but is like an over-plenteous benefactor whom we can never look in the face. The following remark may find room here as an addition to what is said in § 38 of the first volume on the æsthetic pleasure afforded by light, reflection, and colours. The whole immediate, thoughtless, but also unspeakable, pleasure which is excited in us by the impression of colours, strengthened by the gleam of metal, and still more by transparency, as, for example, in coloured windows, and in a greater measure by means of the clouds and their reflection at sunset, ultimately depends upon the fact that here in the easiest manner, almost by a physical necessity, our whole interest is won for knowledge, without any excitement of our will, so that we enter the state of pure knowing, although for the most part this consists here in a mere sensation of the affection of the retina, which, however, as it is in itself perfectly free from pain or pleasure, and therefore entirely without direct influence on the will, thus belongs to pure knowledge.

2023.03.23 09:58 ordight Why You Should Go Vegan

According to The Vegan Society:
"Veganism is a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of animals, humans and the environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals."

1. Ethics

1.1 Sentience of Animals

I care about other human beings because I know that they are having a subjective experience. I know that, like me, they can be happy, anxious, angry or upset. I generally don't want them to die (outside of euthanasia), both because of the pain involved and because their subjective experience will end, precluding further happiness. Their subjective experience is also why I treat them with respect them as individuals, such as seeking their consent for sex and leaving them free from arbitrary physical pain and mental abuse. Our society has enshrined these concepts into legal rights, but like me, I doubt your appreciation for these rights stems from their legality, but rather because of their effect (their benefit) on us as people.
Many non-human animals also seem to be having subjective experiences, and care for one another just like humans do. It's easy to find videos of vertebrates playing with one another, showing concern, or grieving loss. Humans have understood that animals are sentient for centuries. We've come to the point that laws are being passed acknowledging that fact. Even invertebrates can feel pain. In one experiment, fruit flies learned to avoid odours associated with electric shocks. In another, they were given an analgesic which let them pass through a heated tube, which they had previously avoided. Some invertebrates show hallmarks of emotional states, such as honeybees, which can develop a pessimistic cognitive bias.
If you've had pets, you know that they have a personality. My old cat was lazy but friendly. My current cat is inquisitive and playful. In the sense that they have a personality, they are persons. Animals are people. Most of us learn not to arbitrarily hurt other people for our own whims, and when we find out we have hurt someone, we feel shame and guilt. We should be vegan for the same reason we shouldn't kill and eat human beings: all sentient animals, including humans, are having a subjective experience and can feel pain, enjoy happiness and fear death. Ending that subjective experience is wrong. Intentionally hurting that sentient being is wrong. Paying someone else to do it for you doesn't make it better.

1.2 The Brutalisation of Society

There are about 8 billion human beings on the planet. Every year, our society breeds, exploits and kills about 70 billion land animals. The number of marine animals isn't tracked (it's measured by weight - 100 billion tons per year), but it's likely in the trillions. Those are animals that are sexually assaulted to cause them to reproduce, kept in horrendous conditions, and then gased to death or stabbed in the throat or thrown on a conveyor belt and blended with a macerator.
It's hard to quantify what this system does to humans. We know abusing animals is a predictor of anti-social personality disorder. Dehumanising opponents and subaltern peoples by comparing them to animals has a long history in racist propaganda, and especially in war propaganda. The hierarchies of nation, race and gender are complemented by the hierarchy of species. If humans were more compassionate to all kinds of sentient life, I'd hope that murder, racism and war would be more difficult for a normal person to conceive of doing. I think that treating species as a hierarchy, with life at the bottom of that hierarchy treated as a commodity, makes our society more brutal. I want a compassionate society.
To justify the abuse of sentient beings by appealing to the pleasure we get from eating them seems to me like a kind of socially acceptable psychopathy. We can and should do better.

2. Environment

2.1 Greenhouse Gas Emissions

A 2013 study found that animal agriculture is responsible for the emission 7.1 gigatonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent per year, or 14.5% of human emissions.
A 2021 study increased that estimate to 9.8 gigatonnes, or 21% of human emissions.
This is why the individual emissions figures for animal vs plant foods are so stark, ranging from 60kg of CO2 equivalent for a kilo of beef, down to 300g for a kilo of nuts.
To limit global warming to 1.5 degrees by 2100, humanity needs to reduce its emissions by 45% by 2030, and become net zero by 2050.
Imagine if we achieve this goal by lowering emissions from everything else, but continue to kill and eat animals for our pleasure. That means we will have to find some way to suck carbon and methane out of the air to the tune of 14.5-21% of our current annual emissions (which is projected to increase as China and India increase their wealth and pick up the Standard American Diet). We will need to do this while still dedicating vast quantities of our land to growing crops and pastures for animals to feed on. Currently, 77% of the world's agricultural land is used for animal agriculture. So instead of freeing up that land to grow trees, sucking carbon out of the air, and making our task easier, we would instead choose to make our already hard task even harder.

2.2 Pollution

Runoff from farms (some for animals, others using animal manure as fertiliser) is destroying the ecosystems of many rivers, lakes and coastlines.
I'm sure you've seen aerial and satellite photographs of horrific pigshit lagoons, coloured green and pink from the bacteria growing in them. When the farms flood, such as during hurricanes, that pig slurry spills over and infects whole regions with salmonella and listeria. Of course, even without hurricanes, animal manure is the main source of such bacteria in plant foods.

2.3 Water and Land Use

No food system can overcome the laws of thermodynamics. Feeding plants to an animal will produce fewer calories for humans than eating plants directly (this is called 'trophic levels'). The ratio varies from 3% efficiency for cattle, to 9% for pigs, to 13% for chickens, to 17% for dairy and eggs.
This inefficiency makes the previously mentioned 77% of arable land used for animal agriculture very troubling. 10% of the world was food insecure in 2020, up from 8.4% in 2019. Humanity is still experiencing population growth, so food insecurity will get worse in the future. We need to replace animal food with plant food just to stop people in the global periphery starving to death. Remember that food is a global commodity, so increased demand for soya-fed beef cattle in Brazil means increased costs around the world for beef, soya, and things that could have been grown in place of the soya.
Water resources are already becoming strained, even in developed countries like America, Britain and Germany. Like in the Soviet Union with the Aral Sea, America is actually causing some lakes, like the Great Salt Lake in Utah, to dry up due to agricultural irrigation. Rather than for cotton as with the Aral Sea, this is mostly for the sake of animal feed. 86.6% of irrigated water in Utah goes to alfalfa, pasture land and grass hay. A cloud of toxic dust kicked up from the dry lake bed will eventually envelop Salt Lake City, for the sake of an industry only worth 3% of the state's GDP.
Comparisons of water footprints for animal vs plant foods are gobsmacking, because pastures and feed crops take up so much space. As water resources become more scarce in the future thanks to the depletion of acquifers and changing weather patterns, human civilisation will have to choose either to use its water to produce more efficient plant foods, or eat a luxury that causes needless suffering for all involved.

3. Health

3.1 Carcinogens, Cholesterol and Saturated Fat in Animal Products

In 2015, the World Health Organisation reviewed 800 studies, and concluded that red meat is a Group 2A carcinogen, while processed meat is a Group 1 carcinogen. The cause is things like salts and other preservatives in processed meat, and the heme iron present in all meat, which causes oxidative stress.
Cholesterol and saturated fat from animal foods have been known to cause heart disease for half a century, dating back to studies like the LA Veterans Trial in 1969, and the North Karelia Project in 1972. Heart disease killed 700,000 Americans in 2020, almost twice as many as died from Covid-19.

3.2 Antimicrobial Resistance

A majority of antimicrobials sold globally are fed to livestock, with America using about 80% for this purpose. The UN has declared antimicrobial resistance to be one of the 10 top global public health threats facing humanity, and a major cause of AMR is overuse.

3.3 Zoonotic Spillover

Intensive animal farming has been called a "petri dish for pathogens" with potential to "spark the next pandemic". Pathogens that have recently spilled over from animals to humans include:
1996 and 2013 avian flu
2003 SARS
2009 swine flu
2019 Covid-19,

3.4 Worker Health

Killing a neverending stream of terrified, screaming sentient beings is the stuff of nightmares. After their first kill, slaugherhouse workers report suffering from increased levels of: trauma, intense shock, paranoia, fear, anxiety, guilt, and shame.
Besides wrecking their mental health, it can also wreck their physical health. In 2007, 24 slaugherhouse workers in Minnesota began suffering from an autoimmune disease caused by inhaling aerosolised pig brains. Pig brains were lodged in the workers' lungs. Because pig and human brains are so similar, the workers' immune systems began attacking their own nervous systems.
The psychopathic animal agriculture industry is not beyond exploiting children and even slaves.

2023.03.23 09:56 BigExpression5610 Comparison of Full Stack Development with Cloud Computing

Comparison of Full Stack Development with Cloud Computing
According to Gartner, global end-user spending on public cloud computing services is expected to increase from $270 billion in 2020 to $332.3 billion in 2023. It is anticipated to rise even more in 2024, reaching $400 billion. There is an unprecedented demand for cloud computing experts, especially full-stack developers, due to the 47% growth over the past two years.
Professionals and specialists with specialized knowledge, such as software engineers, software architects, development operations engineers, data engineers, system engineers, and data scientists, are needed in cloud computing. A developer proficient in building applications from the ground up and integrating these technologies with the server side is known as a full-stack developer. Click here to learn more about the full stack developer course online.
More than a dozen hot positions in the field of cloud computing were found by TechRepublic; the top three are occupied by experts, including software engineers, software architects, and development operations engineers. The position of a full-stack developer is the next most profitable. Continue reading as we go over the definition of full-stack developers and how they compare to cloud computing.

Difference Between Full-Stack Developers and Cloud computing

A full-stack developer is a computer science graduate who specializes in IT. They frequently have hands-on experience with all required hardware, software, operating systems, business logic, programming languages, apps, and, more importantly, servers, databases, and networks.
Cloud computing is not exclusively connected with any one job or career. In order to enable a variety of services, the entire IT solution setup is necessary. Some services offered include infrastructure, platform, software, business processes, applications, management and security, system, and desktop.

Careers in cloud computing vs. full developers

  • Software engineers have one of the most well-liked positions in the cloud computing industry.
  • An engineer in software creates programs. The software could be a video game, application, or operating system.
  • A software engineer or developer's duties are restricted to researching, creating designs, and developing the program or application's codes.
  • Software architects play a bigger part in maintaining coding guidelines and ensuring tools and platforms are compatible.
  • All other cloud computing experts (including those who work with programming languages and various platforms or are data engineers, data scientists, system engineers, or system administrators) have distinct roles to play in the overall scheme of things. Only a full stack developer can work in every aspect of the ecosystem.
Two positions in cloud computing are somewhat comparable to a full stack developer—developers of the front-end and back-end types.
  • A front-end developer works on all of the user-accessible solutions.
  • A back-end developer works on the entire infrastructure required to support the front-end services.
  • Full stack developers work on both.

Full Stack Development – A Quick Overview

  • There are two main goals for almost all IT solutions and cloud computing services. The first is the back end, also called the server side.
  • The user-end, often known as client-side, is the second. This is a streamlined description, though. The front end and the back end both have several tiers or stacks.
  • Every process, solution, and IT system runs on stacks. Within a larger structure, a stack is an abstract data type. A substantial stack is any program built on PHP, Java, Ruby, or Python. Communications over HTTP use a different kind of stack. Stacks can also be found in databases.
  • In order to run a process, several stacks collaborate effectively.
  • The back end contains a variety of stacks, including databases, servers, operating systems, business logic, architectures, and more. Some layers link the front end and the back end, such as an API (API).
  • There are many front-end stacks as well; some belong to an IT or cloud service provider, while others are found in the native application or user interface that the client or customer is utilizing. This vast ecosystem is covered by full stack development.
  • Only when all the stacks are designed, maintained, and run correctly will cloud computing and many other IT solutions operate continuously and as planned. Every department contributes, but the complete stack development team is ultimately responsible for the management and general operation.

Key Responsibilities of a Full Stack Developer

  • These programmers deal with databases, web servers, frameworks, architectures, different kinds of hardware and software, network infrastructure, programming libraries, desktop and mobile applications, APIs, and UI/UX design. Engineers or developers with a full stack have more important duties.
  • In order to perform the extensive duties of a full stack developer, a qualified expert must be knowledgeable in at least some of the following areas:
  • Front end: Bootstrap, Angular, AngularJS, Typescript, Elm, XML, React, GraphQL, Gulp, Grunt
  • Back end (also known as server-side) — Javascript, Ruby, Python, Scala, Go, Node.js, Express.js, SQL, Java, PHP, C#
  • The setup, testing, improvement, management, operation, and troubleshooting of the back-end, connecting interfaces, and front-end of a cloud computing ecosystem all fall within the purview of these developers.
  • In addition to testing and troubleshooting hardware and software, full-stack developers work on data security and protection, collaborate with other teams to improve all back-end and front-end systems and provide technical documentation for all systems.

Last Words

To ensure that all departments of cloud computing or an IT environment function together, a full stack developer or engineer plays the active role of facilitator. Although it is a comprehensive procedure, not everything is the entire responsibility of the developers or engineers. Teams of comparable developers work for the majority of businesses. Furthermore, if you are interested in pursuing a career as a developer, join the best full stack software developer course in mumbai, offered by Learnbay. 2023.03.23 09:56 Advanced_Falcon_2816 GTA 6 Report Details Rockstar’s First Bonnie And Clyde-Like Female Protagonist

Grand Theft Auto V is one of the most profitable entertainment franchises in the history of games. It came along as a return to form after what many fans would argue was a misstep with the more gritty and realistic GTA 4. Originally released back in 2013 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3—yes, it spans three console generations—developer Rockstar has supported the game's online mode with continual updates adding new content, new areas, and even all-new mechanics.
GTA V was such a runaway success—and GTA The Trilogy: Definitive Edition was such a dumpster fire—that Rockstar gave up working on a Red Dead Redemption 2 DLC, and has now reportedly abandoned plans to remaster more of its beloved older titles to instead focus on both further GTA Online content as well as the development of GTA 6.
gtaonline fukaru
Naturally, expectations for GTA 6 are incredibly high, and given the advanced age of GTA V, fans are chomping at the bit for any bit of news. That's why there's so much buzz around a report at Bloomberg that focuses on Rockstar's new corporate culture. Company co-founder Dan Houser left Rockstar in 2020, and ever since then the development house has been trying to reshape a corporate culture that the report refers to as being "like a frat house".
Given the nature and tone of the humor in the Grand Theft Auto series, it's really not surprising to hear that the atmosphere inside Rockstar was juvenile and chauvinistic. The report remarks that the workplace culture at Rockstar was "full of drinking, brawling, and excursions to strip clubs." That may sound like a good time to some, but it's admittedly not very professional.
gta1 katie Katie from the OG Grand Theft Auto (1997) on PC (left) and Game Boy Color (right).
As part of the report, author Jason Schreier casually reveals that GTA 6 will have at least two playable protagonists, and that one of them will be a Latina woman. This technically isn't the first playable woman nor even the first playable Hispanic woman in the GTA series; the very first GTA game featured a Latina named "Katie" as one of its eight playable characters.
Still, very few of the series' modern fans even remember the old DOS-based Grand Theft Auto, so we can forgive everyone for forgetting about poor Katie. Regardless, the new girl will apparently be part of a Bonnie-and-Clyde-like crime duo, calling to mind the partnership between Claude and Catalina in the beginning of Grand Theft Auto III. Hopefully the partnership between the new player characters in GTA 6 doesn't end the same way that one did.

2023.03.23 09:53 beseechpeach Daily Post: Day 7

Hi All, Here I am again, trying to lie down my thoughts and feelings, including symptoms on a daily basis. Trying to help anyone else quit that needs it. You can read my previous post on day 6 for more context, but a basic summary is that weed ruined my life within 2 years since the lockdowns started. I use to be a confident, person, and built good relationships, and now I suffer from severe anxiety and depression mixed with a bag of depersonalization every now and again.
Anxiety 8/10 today, I woke up at about 8:30 after 8 hours of sleep. Not necessarily at once, but I got 8 hours of sleep yesterday and it feels good. I had no weird dreams, or at least I cannot remember them. It seems this part faded quite quickly for me. However, I wake up in the morning feeling anxious. I have no reason to be anxious, as my life is pretty under control, but it seems that the mind is a strange thing. It tricks us into believing we need to be anxious for whatever reason. Right now I am drinking some coffee and not sure what the impact will be, but I find it very hard to stay awake without my coffee. Anxiety has been the number one issue that I have been dealing with since stopping. It's such a weird feeling, it's like being super nervous about the smallest things, like driving or seeing other people, or just even going to work. These are tasks I would nail before I smoked weed. Still trying to put a finger on what it is exactly, and I guess it's part of the process. I have yet to try and exercise to improve anxiety but I have tried some relaxation techniques and they don't really seem to work. Anxiety or nervousness, stress, or whatever you want to call it. It breaks me in half. It eats away at my soul and mind. I hope I can get this under control soon! I think perhaps I need to try and do some exercise and sauna to see if it improves my symptoms. Perhaps today will be the day that I give it a shot! Anyone struggling with this, please know that I truly sympathize with you. It hurts so bad.
Depression is 5/10 today, and it seems that the symptoms, or feelings, or none feelings, or whatever you want to call it are getting better on day 7. It's so weird that weed can cause depression if you don't have it before, but I guess suppressing your feeling for two years with weed is not the best idea. I cannot expect to recover fully in 7 days, that is unrealistic. I am going to give it time before I see a professional to help me with both anxiety and depression. It's actually quite funny, that in the past, I use to think both these conditions were caused by the person and their actions rather than brain chemistry, etc. Now that has completely changed. FUCK, I don't know how people do this or deal with it full-time. I am hoping that my symptoms will get better with depression as time passes. It has to right?
Depersonalization 2/10, I have yet to have an episode of this again, however, anyone dealing with this, it seems whenever this happens, I just walk. I walk it off. Like 5 K's and it's much better. It's funny how weed can completely rewire a brain, to the point where you question who and what you are. This has to be the closest feeling to going crazy there is in this world. At least for me, I always wonder about these people sitting in looney houses and how they got there, now I know.

Other symptoms I am facing today are restlessness, no appetite, and I still kind of feel a bit confused. Like waking up from a very very long dream. My memory and brain fog is yet to go away, but I think that will take more time. I personally think weed is very misunderstood by the scientific world and with it becoming more and more freely available, we are going to find so many more people abusing it and losing their sense of self. It's a strange drug, it creeps up on you so slowly, that by the time you realize it's happening it's almost too late and it's hard to stop. I know 100% that I will never touch this stuff again, not in my lifetime. I sometimes wonder how bad things need to get for people to quit, and I now know. IF you are reading this, and you have yet to quit, or struggling with quitting, just know that you are not alone. I however want to warn you, that yes, it might be a functional drug now, but in the future, it will ruin your mind. Trust your gut and quit, the longer you continue the harder the withdrawal will be. Yes, withdrawal is not easy, it's the hard road out, but it's going to be worth it. Weed messes with our minds and we understand too little of the mind to know the long-term effects, then add the layer of how different each person is, and boom. At some point, it's going to crack you or your life. My DM's are open. I want to help anyone I can to stop this from happening to them what has happened to me. If you are young, especially it's the right time to quit. PLEASE GUYS! Don't let it ruin you as a person as it has ruined me.

2023.03.23 09:44 CarterDire4 The Red Book

This is an idea for a horror movie I've had in mind for many years now based on a nightmare I had way back when.
The movie tells the story of a troubled young psychology student Thomas Holt who returns to his bleak decrepit hometown and estranged family (consisting of his struggling police chief father, invasive stepmother and emotionally distant stepsister) for thanksgiving until an intense family argument forces Thomas to leave the house to be alone, shortly after he witnesses and fails to stop his elderly next-door neighbor's bizarre suicide. Haunted by this baffling and unsettling act he was unable to prevent, Thomas decides to confront the unanswered questions and attempt to solve the mystery behind his neighbor's death whilst everyone else writes it off as just an all too typical byproduct of life in the town. Eventually, Thomas' investigation leads him into the possession of a mysterious red leather-bound book that was formerly in his neighbor's possession prior to her death, the book has pages stained in blood and is filled to the brim with half-finished sentences, unbeknownst to him, the book has in fact been touched with dark satanic forces and as Thomas continues to decipher the book and uncover its origins, the more he finds himself becoming physically and psychologically vulnerable to the book's powers, plaguing his mind with thoughts and images of both supernatural horrors and horrific acts of violence and chaos. He ultimately discovers that the book has ties to the town's disturbing history and a long-existing family of Satan-worshipers whose last living members are closer to Thomas than he realizes...
The story is a blend of supernatural and psychological horror chronicling the protagonist on a journey that is full of dark revelations, realizations and self-doubt paving the way for a slow psychological descent into hell...

2023.03.23 09:43 Basic_Arrival7815 Wtf No Gamble No future

Please tell me you just watched the hand between penzoil don and eric persson for 300k. Not only did don announce he had nothing before a call was made after he shoved a semi bluff, eric then decided to call with bottom pair after don told him he had nothing. They had one card to come and it gave eric a full house. But since it completed the flush he thought he lost, he then had a tantrum and left, while don celebrated making the flush. It took don 2 minutes to realize he lost. While eric wasn’t even at the table to stack the chips he won because he was pouting thinking he lost. If anyone has a dying hope of becoming a high stakes cash player this hand might re ignite the possibility for you that just about anyone can do this shit hahahaha.

2023.03.23 09:38 No_Explanation_1111 After Ww2

Hi! I'm Ella, 23 and looking for someone to write a WW2 story with! :)
I'm looking for someone who loves detail and preferably writes around 500 words per response. However, when it comes to dialogue I'm okay with a sentence or two! Just be descriptive but flexible. I also want my partner and I to write side characters if needed for the scene. I enjoy realism, plotting (and a partner who shares their ideas and contributes to the story), sending memes and videos about the characters and all that. Also, I have a full time job and also study for my masters. My real life is prioritized over role-playing which is just a hobby. I'll try to reply once a day but sometimes it might be less often. I'm looking for something long-term so please make sure you have the time to invest into this before you send a message. Some of my favorite stories with others have taken years to complete.
This is a brief summary of the idea I have. If you're interested then I'll give you a more detailed version. Please keep in mind that a lot of things I have written out can change. I want this to be OUR story and not just mine. In fact, if you want to suggest a 90% change in the plot, go for it! Also, if you have something different but still along the same lines don't hesitate to message me.

I write on Discord or Google Docs

((Looking for someone to play Muse A))

MUSE A and MUSE B met when young and their attraction was instant. They started dating and after a year, they got engaged and married shortly after. It wasn't long before MA was called to join the war. During the years that MA was gone, they would exchange letters and small gifts.
When the war ended, he was finally able to come home to his wife. Much to his surprise, what was meant to be a home for two suddenly became a home for four. MB had given birth to twins shortly after MA's departure. MB kept it a secret in order to ensure that MA would just focus on getting home. Now that MB is home, he has to learn how to be a father whilst dealing with his own battles; depression, anxiety, the post traumatic disorder and all the nightmares that would inevitably haunt him for the rest of his life. MA shows signs of doubt that the kids are his. When he's having a meltdown, when he snaps, or when his PTSD acts up and he's the most vulnerable, he accuses her of having an affair while he was away and that the children are someone else's.
Although MB was loyal to her husband while he gone, she allowed another man to get close to her family. Muse C, a widower and their neighbor has been trying to win MA over ever since he met her. Every chance he got, he'd help her around, whether that was just carrying her shopping bags or fixing something in the house. He'd even bring her eggs, milk or any other products that he got from his brother's farm. Feeling grateful, MB would often invite him to her house for lunch or offer to wash and iron his clothes since he had no wife to do it for him. The kids loved him and looked forward to playing with him every day.

I only write on discord or Google Docs.

((Looking for someone to play as Muse A))

2023.03.23 09:31 WeWillWeWillShearYou Negotiating cost just before exchange

Bear with me as I feel the title might make me unpopular.
We're close to exchanging on a property and are the middle of a chain. Our buyer was also in a chain, but broke it to become chain free. Our sellers are moving to a completed new build and desperate to move (their previous chain collapsed last minute and they almost lost their new build property). We're also keen to move asap as well. They've both had contracts issued, we haven't yet.
The property is from around 1970, so not a new property.
Only thing is a structural issue came up on the survey and now we've had a builder look at it it will cost ~£3k to repair. In a nutshell, the French doors to the garden are missing a lintel, so there is cracking and slight bowing above them. Builder won't say exactly how urgent it is, but said we could start to find it difficult to use the French doors and have damp issues and advised having it repaired asap.
We've now got to decide whether to try to negotiate costs for this to be paid in full/part by the current owners. They admitted it was on the previous buyers survey but that it wasn't marked as urgent as it was on ours (we spoke to them directly when doing a final viewing). We're not clear if that's because it's got worse in 6 months or previous surveyor had a different as approach.
On the one hand, our solicitor has said we are in the territory that it's a genuine thing to negotiate on and it is a massive unforseen cost we hadn't expected. There are other things that came up that we have just accepted given we're not buying a new property so they would be expected.
On the other, they have no requirement to agree to it and it might cause a delay for a house we still want either way and risk the pretty comfortable position we're in with our chain.
So we're wavering about what to do. I think we will probably at least attempt to get them to pay in part but we're so nervous about disrupting things.
For info, things have moved quite quickly, offer accepted 1st Feb.

2023.03.23 09:29 Other-Borderlands K♠️ : Come Seek

K♠️ : Come Seek
K♠️ : Come Seek
This game is part of a series of games, where I am writing games for all 52 cards for a borderlands in the UK. Each one includes a story of how I imagine the game playing out. You can find all entries here.
Venue: Forest outside of the city. (~3 days away)
Player limit: Unlimited
Rules: At the bottom of the story.

Remaining Games
?th Day of Sojourn
Mia left the building in triumph, and began to make her way back towards the school.
However, as she was making her way, she decided to go a different way. As she was the only winner of the game, no one would realise she was missing, they would just assume her dead.
She turned, trying to find an adequate place to stay. She thought back to the Nine of Spades, where she had found her knack for spades games. Before the borderlands she had been quite different, but with rigid training routines she was on her way to becoming the best spades player in the land, or so she liked to believe.
First Day of Exhibitions
The Unknown.
He loved the wilderness. Admittedly, there was little of it left in the UK, so he had gone to other countries in search of adventure. He had decided to return home this summer, and he had been met at the airport by his two friends. Then he awoke here, in his car, with his two friends, who had been exited for his return home.
This was his home now. The wilderness, about 7 days walk from the city. He looked up at the massive blimp above his head, the king of spades hanging down. How had the world come to this?
His life here, the past few years, had been an experience. He knew there was now no way back for him, and that death waited with the arrival of this blimp. He didn’t want to go, but this was his choice. Soon the players would be here.
Alex
She had only just made it out of the Queen of Spades game alive, and now she had agreed to play another Spades game? What was she thinking? Alex walked with the school kids to the store they had spoken about, and they kitted up with boots, 40 litre backpacks, tents, food rations, etc., splitting the duty fairly evenly. They also grabbed miscellaneous wilderness supplies, medicine, first aid, water supplies, etc.
She carefully put on the backpack with the assistance of one of the kinder of the two school kids, Tom, who explained that with this heavy a pack slinging it over your shoulder could cause back damage.
“Looks like my DofE is really coming in handy.” He joked, as the others got their packs ready. There were four of them all together, Ellis, Tom, Alex, and Flo. She hadn’t really met any of them during the first stage, but they had introduced themselves now, and they were going to have to work together if they wanted to clear the King of Spades.
Ellis checked the time on his pocket watch he had wound up and set based on a sundial the schoolboy she met, James, had made.
“It’s just after 6, we can get some walking in before camping out for the night, as two or three hors are better than none.” He said, leading them out of the shop.
They began to make their way down the street, to the desolate wasteland that lay beyond the city, a mix of forests and mountains, as far as the eye could see, a solitary King of Spades hanging in the distance.
“You aren’t going to forget about me, are you?” A voice called from behind them, and Tom turned, followed by a surprised Ellis.
“That’s… Your dead…” Tom said in confusion.
“Clearly not. Also, I’m joining you on this journey. Don’t worry, I’ll be self sufficient. It’s all packed.” Mia said, showing them her Backpack. “You should remember, my group got back first on DofE!”
“Alright. We need all the help we can get. But if you get on my nerves too much, I’ll leave you alone in the woods.” Ellis said, and they walked off.
The first hour of walking was always the worst, before everything started to fall away and you lost track of time. It was the worst part, and she trudged through the forest, over rocks, all with the group, watching their backpacks sway from side to side.
The walk continued for what felt like a while, but she knew this would be the least intensive of the days, the next few being four times as long, and likely four times as arduous. She looked at the hill towering in the distance, and knew tomorrow they would be going up it.
They arrived at the base of it, and Ellis checked the time, before deciding they would set up camp here for the night. They began unpacking, and she, Tom and Mia were assigned to setting up the tents, while Ellis would work on the fire and the food, and Flo would establish a boundary and some traps for animals, fo which Ellis gave her a book and a battery powered flashlight, as well as some of the materials needed.
Alex, Tom and Mia had put the poles together on the tents, and were beginning to thread them through the plastic fabric of the tent, as Mia began to ask her about her time in the borderlands.
She told her about her first game, the encounter with James, then the Fibonacci Gaps of the six of spades, her time with Katherine, the seven of hearts…
“Really, Ben did all that? What a sack of shit he is. Honestly, not surprised you faked your death. We found out he was bad during the ten of hearts game, but never realised quite how bad he was…” Tom said.
“What about you then, Mia?” Alex asked her, and by the time the tents were up the three of them had formed quite a good bond.
Once everything was set up for the night, they sat around the fire, eating food, telling stories, recounting their lives.
For the first time since the seven of hearts, Alex felt happy.
-
They settled into sleep that night, Alex in the warm embrace of a sleeping bag, the tent fluttering in the light breeze. It had been a rollercoaster of a day, but she needed to get a good nights sleep, in preparation for the next few days of hiking.
Second Day of Exhibitions
The Unknown
He took some supplies from his cool box, while sat in his cabin.
Why had he even decided to stay here? This was not how he wanted his life, and he was alone, in the wilderness, where he wanted to be, yet he still felt out of place. He didn’t want to stay in this land, but now he was stuck. He had given up his chance of returning of the old world, and now he sat there, in his self-built log cabin, waiting. He waited for his death. He knew that someone would come, and that the worst mistake of his life would come to light. He thought a definitive chance at winning was better than dying immediately, but he had been wrong. What had he done?
Tom
He awoke early that morning, next to Ellis. He checked the time, before winding up the pocket watch and unzipping the tent and stepping outside.
The world was covered by a thin layer of dew, and the air smelt fresh. He walked over to the burnt out ashes of yesterdays fire, taking a seat next to it, on a cold rock.
He thought about the day, and got ready for it, putting on his boots and preparing breakfast, before waking the others.
Unlike the evening before, they ate in relative silence, uttering the occasional word when absolutely necessary.
They packed up the tents, now talking a little more. They folded the tents carefully, while Flo checked the traps.
They had finally finished packing up, and they prepared for the day. Tom laced up his boots, and stood up, grabbing his backpack.
They set off around 7:00-7:30, beginning their trek up the hill. The hill was at a steep incline, and they walked up a winding path across the side of the hill, stabilising themselves on rocks, sliding through wet grass, mud. They spent hours on the incline, stopping for a short break about halfway up, as well as various other water stops. They were exhausted, and as the sun went under, they were almost at the summit, pushing themselves further up the hill, until they arrived.
As he finished the climb, he collapsed at the top, before looking to see how far away the King of spades now was.
He looked in horror at the mountain a little further away, towering, the King of Spades blimp hovering in the sky. Tomorrow was going to be a much more perilous and arduous trek than today, he thought, and Ellis suggested they set up camp here.
They cycled the roles this time, Ellis on traps, Alex on food, and Flo with Mia and him setting up tents.
They were now in a much more conversational mood, talking with Flo, asking her about her time in this country, explaining theirs.
They also spoke about their time before arriving here, discussing the fireworks, their arrival.
“Well, maybe it’s aliens?” Flo suggested.
“But why? That wouldn’t make any sense!” He responded, and Ellis came over, disrupting their discussion to inform them that the traps had been set up.
They gathered around todays campfire, and began to eat, talking about nothing and everything.
As their meal came to a conclusion, Ellis announced he had something for them, and went into his bag, retrieving a bottle of Alcohol.
“Let us drink! For tomorrow we may die!” He exclaimed, laughing, taking a swig from the bottle.
Flo frowned at first, but realised that underage drinking was the least of their problems at the moment. Alex passed on the drink, and so did Mia, but still, before they knew it the bottle was empty, and Ellis was fast asleep, while Tom and Flo couldn’t stop laughing.
Alex and Mia decided it would be best to get some sleep.
They settled for the night, and eventually the others stopped laughing and retreated into their tents and sleeping bags, and Alex drifted off to sleep, into into a dream.
Third Day of Exhibitions
The Unknown
He awoke on his bed, and stepped out onto the patio, smelling the early morning air, and appreciating the wildernesses beauty. He stood, his arms outstretched, and he took in all of the surroundings. The city was a way away, and from here, he could see it, I all its small nature. He walked around his cabin, grateful to be alive. He stopped however, catching sight of a plume of smoke rising from near the base of the mountain, and he went inside to grab his binoculars.
He walked back outside, looking through them, at the smoke, and what he saw confirmed his suspicions. There was a group coming to find him. How intriguing.
Mia
She awoke to someone punching the side of her tent.
“Mia! Alex! Get up, we need to get going!” Ellis shouted to them through the outside of the tent.
She got up groggily, putting on her shoes before stepping out into the dew covered meadow where they had pitched their tents. Sunlight streamed down over the top of the mountain, starting to bathe their tents in a warm glow.
Mia walked over to the fire, picking up some of the food that had been prepared, and began to eat it. She looked at the mountain, knowing about the dangerous day ahead, scaling it. At the top of the mountain a mist was starting to form, obscuring the massive King of spades, and where it was they were aiming for.
She finished eating, and then helped pack their tents up. They loaded them into their rucksacks before setting off, walking towards the mountain.
The day started with a walk on a mild incline, where Mia found herself talking to Ellis, and they talked about why they wanted to get back. Ellis told her how at first he hadn’t wanted to go back, but now, he wished he could. That was why he was challenging the King of Spades.
Mia continued her conversation, but her shoulders, arms and legs were aching, from two days of carrying so much. Later in the day, she fell behind Ellis, talking to Tom. Tom was quite nice, and despite having made it to Ben’s inner circle wasn’t totally ruthless.
They clambered over some rocks, and Tom slipped, cutting himself on a sharp edge of rock. He shouted, but insisted he was fine and could continue. They continued, Tom continuing to exhale sharply and wince every couple of steps. The walk was exhausting, but they pushed on, stopping at a larger rock for a break and some water. The sun had reached its peak in the sky, and it was boiling, so much warmer than it had been in the morning. This pace was a nightmare weather wise, and she just wanted to get back to the old world. Mia didn’t want to know why all this had happened, she just wanted to get back home.
Ellis and Flo had been talking, and so had Alex and Mia. Mia liked Alex, while this world had made her quite uncaring, she was a good person. Mia had even with her talks with Ellis almost managed to forgive him. She had heard him crying at night over everything he had done. She hadn’t told him.
They were about two thirds of the way up the mountain when it happened. They were walking along a small ridge when Tom’s leg flared up in pain. He shouted, tipping towards the edge.
“Tom!” Mia shouted, reaching out her hand to catch him. He hung from her hand, over the edge. She tried so hard to pull him up, but she couldn’t , and he just, let go.
They spent the rest of the walk in almost full silence. Mia let out a few tears for tom, but continued. In the old world this would have been a tragedy, but by now they were already so used to the death and the destruction that they just kept going.
They arrived at the top of the mountain, the King of Spades blimp flying a few 100 metres ahed, above a log cabin, surrounded by trees. They cautiously approached the cabin, and Flo felt something curl around her leg.
She let out a shout as she was hoisted into the tree by her foot. They looked around, and they heard the door of the cabin door opening.
A man walked out, and towards the trap. He cut Flo out of it, and introduced himself.
“Hello. Welcome to Come Seek. Difficulty: King of Spades. Rules: Make it here, to this cabin, and Back, without dying. Don’t worry, I won’t interfere. Now, I’ve finished the rules, so come in, and you can restock and prepare for your return to the city.”
“What? You mean all we have to do is walk back?” Mia asked, as Flo stood up.
“Yes. It’s that simple.” The King said, walking back towards the Cabin. “You know, I built this cabin myself. Away from people, to avoid them, but now I’ve come to regret my choice of staying. When it is your turn, I hope you don’t make the same mistake I did.”
He walked away before the others could ask him anything, only stopping to turn back for one thing.
“You might want to go and see the Jack of Clubs after you finish my game.”
They were confused by his comment, but brushed it off, and they walked into the cabin, refilling their packs for the next three hard days of walking back to the city.
Mia wasn’t sure what to think about the King. He certainly wasn’t what she was expecting.
They Slept in the cabin that night, using the insulation and heat that it provided.
The King didn’t return.
Fourth Day of Exhibitions
They awoke in the cabin the next day, the King still absent. Ellis told them it would likely be a good idea to get going again, and Flo grabbed a little food from the fridge in the cabin, offering a little to everyone. They ate in silence, still fazed by Tom’s death and the strange nature of the King. They began to pack up again, rolling up mats, putting their sleeping bags away.
They opened the cabin door, ready to depart. The day had broken recently, and sunlight streamed over the horizon, and the ground was littered with dew. The day was still quite cold, but by the time they started moving and the sun rose in the sky it would be unbearably hot.
The straps of their backpacks rubbed against their shoulders as they walked, and their arms and legs ached, but Mia was preoccupied.
The King had been so different from what she had expected, and she began discussing it with Alex, one of the two of them that had met another citizen. Alex told her how she too had been caught off guard by the king. She had expected that if the game was as he explained he would be tracking them, and trying to stop them, but he had told them he wouldn’t, and seeing as this was spades, meant it was unlikely he was lying.
They continued down the mountain, over rocks, along the path they had walked previously, the grass still flattened from their walk the day before. They retraced their steps, and Mia stopped briefly when she saw the mangled shape of Tom on the rocks below. She forced herself on, but she could feel the off-putting effect it had had on the others. They took a different path once they got down, so they wouldn’t have to go past Tom’s corpse.
After a while of walking they arrived at the previous campsite, their past fire’s ashes on the floor, surrounded by rocks, and They remembered how carefree they had been that night, before it had truly kicked off.
They set up for the night, putting up their tents.
There was no large campfire, no happiness, they simply went to sleep.
Or tried to.
Mia had difficulty trying to get the image of Tom out of her head, and it took a little before she could close her eyes without seeing him.
Over the past few days the walking had become less and less noticeable, as she was getting better and better at zoning out while doing it. The start was always hard, but by the time the sun truly rose the day passed quickly.
This world had changed her so much, and she wasn’t even sure of who she was anymore. She used to be so different, and now she was trekking through the wilderness for her own life.
She managed to fall asleep, but the night was rough.
She awoke in the night after seeing Tom fall from the cliff again. She got up and left the tent, making sure not to wake her tent-mate. She sat around the embers of the fire, and was joined a few moments later by Alex.
“Hey.” Alex said.
“Hey.” Mia replied, poking the fire with a stick.
“Couldn’t sleep?”
“Yeah.”
“Tom?”
“Yeah.”
“Look, Im not going to pretend I know what to say here, but we’ll work through it, ok? So far, all I’ve seen from you is strength, and I’m sure you can work through it.”
“Thanks.”
“Well, you might want to get some sleep.”
Alex returned to the tent, and soon Mia followed her. She didn’t want to be sleepy tomorrow. She wanted to get back to the city as quickly as possible, and she couldn’t afford to be below standard due to lack of sleep.
Fifth Day of Exhibitions
Flo woke up first that morning, getting out of her tent, hitting the sides of the others tents to get them up. She got out some food as the others were still waking, before giving each of them some. She had already taken her tent down by the time Ellis left his tent, and they were sat around as he finished his food.
“I’ve had a thought.” He said, looking at them.
“What?” Flo asked, intrigued.
“We’ve been quite slow these past few days, we could get back faster if we ditched the packs.” Ellis said.
“What!?” They said to him, almost in unison.
“Well, judging by the distance and our pace, we do about 13-18 Km a day. Most of you here are quite good runners, and I can do 20 Km in a few hours. It’ll be hard, but its definitely possible and we would make it before the end of today.” He explained.
“Since when did you become good at maths?” Mia said, teasing him. “But seriously, that’s not a bad idea, although we have to be sure we’ll make it, being out in this wilderness without protection is not something I want to do.”
“Are both of you crazy?” Flo said.
“I’d like to get back to the city as fast as possible, I definitely think it’s worth a try.” Alex said.
“Fine” Flo agreed, and they didn’t bother packing up their tents. They reached grabbed some water, and began jogging down the hill.
The hill was the hardest part of the run, staying at a steady pace while maintaining balance and going down it was difficult, but soon they were at the bottom.
Their arms ached, and their lungs were bursting, but they continued into the forest, running past various places they had seen before, and they stopped for a serious break about halfway back.
A few of them were gasping for breath, and they drank a lot of their water.
They pushed on though, running past their campsite, through the trees, and onwards.
The sun began to grow lower in the sky, and what they estimated was around five, they finally broke through the last barrier of trees, and stepped out onto the tarmac road of the city, dripping in sweat, bent over, out of breath.
They quickly drank the rest of their water, before going to find a place to sleep, more water, and food.
The four of them were tired, and eventually they holed themselves up inside a detached house on the outskirts of town.
There was no edible food in the house, but they did find water. They drank almost all of it, and they settled down as evening set in. Mia managed to find a set of cards, and suggested they play a game.
“Like a card game, obviously…” Before laughing nervously.
They began to play, as Mia explained the rules.
They were having fun, almost forgetting the nature of the place they were in, getting engrossed in their free time activity.
Their illusion of safety was broken by the voice announcing that the King of Spades had been defeated, and that Alex, Ellis, Flo and Mia had gained 13 days on their Visas.
They all looked at each moment, before returning to their game, trying to go back to their earlier state of ignorance.
After a couple of rounds, they went to sleep, now knowing they were safe for another few days.
Sixth Day of Exhibitions
They awoke at a normal time, and Flo was grateful to have been able to sleep in a proper bed. She looked around the room she was in, wondering what had happened to the people who had once lived here, and the old world.
She was saddened by the thought it might not be possible to go back, and they simply might be forced to stay here and become citizens. Who knew.
She got up, seeing no-one else had gotten up yet, and seeing the place, decided she was done with what she had aimed to do. She had beaten the King, and now she had no reason to stay here. She looked at the two blimps left, the King of hearts, and the Jack of Clubs, and the King of Hearts. The Fact that it still hung in the sky, meant it was unlikely that her friends were left alive. She looked down sadly. She was the last performer. The last of a group almost 30 big. She walked over to it.
If Alfie, Tracy and Roger couldn’t clear it, she would in their memory.
When Ellis awoke, he looked around the house, seeing if anyone else had woken yet. He spotted Flo’s empty bed, and didn’t fault her for leaving.
He looked out the window, seeing the only other remaining games being the Jack of Clubs and the King of hearts.
After Alex and Mia got up, he called them down to tell them he wanted to see what the Jack of Clubs was about. Not to play it, just see what the King meant by seeing the Jack of Clubs after his game.
They agreed, and they walked over to the castle, above which the Jack of Clubs blimp hung, spotting two familiar figures waiting fro them at the gates.
TL,DR: get to the Kings blimp, and back to the city without dying. There is no time limit, other than visa.

2023.03.23 09:28 philomathresearch Benefits of Using a Third-Party Market Research Firm

One of the keys to running your business is knowing who your client base is. This can be as simple as implementing a survey in which you ask them directly about themselves and their habits or preferences if they are loyal customers. You can help determine who your target audience is by looking up information about them through secondary research on sites such as Google, Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn and obtain insights into how they would like products to be marketed to them. Third Party Market Research means research conducted by COMPANY in support of any relationship or agreement between COMPANY . If you are thinking of branching out with a new service or product, a good approach could be to simply implement it and see what reaction you get from clients.
You know the saying, “Does an alligator wear shoes?” Well, if you don’t know then let us tell you that it doesn’t matter. But we think you get our drift, and while you can do most things on your own as a business owner there are some situations where it’s most definitely in your best interest to hire others to do some of the work for you. Here are three examples: 1) Calling the fire department because fires aren’t good for business; 2) Visiting a doctor when you’re sick because getting sick isn’t good for business; 3) Hiring professional market research professionals when something is not quite clicking with your audience, and it may be affecting sales – which isn’t good for business either!

A professional market research firm is useful for the following five reasons:

1. Honesty
When it comes down to things like market research, honesty is essential. If your respondents or participants don’t tell you the truth about what they think of a certain product or idea, then your findings can be misleading, which leads to misguided decisions that won’t represent all possible solutions for your client nor will help achieve the desired outcome. So now we all must ask ourselves an honest question: Are people usually always and seamlessly honest with one another? No – there are many situations and aspects where people seem unwilling to tell someone else what they’re thinking. Now think back to when you were younger, did you do a good job when it came down to being honest about everything? Think about what makes communicating genuinely difficult for you and others, why is honesty so complicated?
Honesty is the fifth benefit of hiring a market researcher instead of conducting research in-house. When it comes to gathering information for your project, ensuring that your participants are honest and comfortable are two important things. And when you choose a market researcher who can provide both benefits, it can help you get the accurate data that would allow you draw valuable conclusions and make smarter business decisions. Honesty is an incredibly important part of marketing in any niche. While you might use different strategies to achieve honest results on your end depending on the type of work that you’re doing as well as other factors, honesty will always be a vital part of obtaining real feedback from customers or clients to consider when making big decisions or taking actionable steps moving forward which could affect your brand’s image – whatever that may mean or look like at this point!
2. Different Perspectives
Hiring a market research agency will give you access to experts in the field who can provide you with unbiased insight that’s essential to ensuring your products and services meet your business goals. Your staff may also have a personal stake and thus have an incentive to overlook some of your product’s weak points. You need dedicated marketing professionals so that you can manage strategic relationships carefully. Make sure those relationships are managed appropriately through thorough analysis of all feedback from customers, competitors, vendors, etc. It’s important for both individuals implementing these strategies to manage their daily activities effectively so as not to experience burnout.
3. Interpretation
Market research can be beneficial to a company in many ways. It can provide additional insight into consumer preferences that may come as a shock, or it could reveal some opportunities you never knew existed. Whether the information is quantitative or qualitative, market research requires a skilled professional to interpret it correctly so your company can become more profitable. With all the data that’s gathered, it may seem overwhelming—but you don’t have to worry too much because we’ve got your back! Hiring us will not only save you time and energy but money as well because we have earned our certification in market research interpretation to ensure that your next business move will be the right one!
Interpretations of data can go awry. Designing and implementing significance-based statistical analyses, charts, and graphs are critical components of the interpretation strategy. If done incorrectly, the analysis may lead to two or more incorrect key decisions because individuals will concentrate on one of the multiple and many features that were analysed. With trained professionals providing recommendations, you can feel confident in making sound judgments and moving forward with fewer wrong turns down the road.
4. Professional Expertise
As an entrepreneur, you may have considered implementing data research and analytics into your business but choose to do in-house rather than outsourcing. This is a common issue that entrepreneurs deal with due to the variety of instructional material available online that seem helpful, but never address the real issues being faced by numerous businesses each day. If you’re ready and willing to find answers on what will make your company run more effectively than it’s worth speaking to professional market researchers who specialize in analytics.
Professionals are like chefs. They have the ingredients to make your data taste better and bring out the best flavours from it. More than that, they can tell you what ingredients to put in your survey so as not to waste a single mouthful. Also, they’re skilled at drawing people whom you want to focus on inside your target market into the right survey and asking them all the right questions to get responses directly related with your company’s success in surviving tough fluctuations of the business industry while maintaining profit margins intact. Lastly, they create new findings based on their analysis of the data gathered through surveys that could guide your business decision-making processes as an entrepreneur.
5. Effective, Reliable, and Trustworthy
Content that accompanies original research is very appealing to the press as well because it is seen as being more credible. The same goes for online users who typically react more vocally to such content on social media compared with other kinds of content.
While the cost of outsourcing market research is typically higher than doing it yourself, you must remember that the value of hiring a professional team for this purpose can be priceless not only because you will likely receive more value out of them in terms of the quality and effectiveness of the product that would otherwise be inferior otherwise. Seek out research companies like MarketResearch.com that have been in business for decades and are full of individuals with years of experience. They will know how to conduct your market research properly so that it brings positive results regardless of if you’re planning on launching a new product or growing an existing project.
While some businesses are still wary of outsourcing most jobs, it’s becoming more common today than ever before. If you want to avoid wasting time on minutiae and double-checking every decision and person you interact with, why not hire a qualified market research firm to assist you in your endeavours? You can have peace of mind knowing that professionals are helping you with the tasks that need expert attention and if there is an emergency or something goes wrong, they will adjust for you immediately. Just make sure you review their results for accuracy so that nothing slips through the cracks!

2023.03.23 09:14 Advanced_Falcon_2816 GTA 6 Report Details Rockstar’s First Bonnie And Clyde-Like Female Protagonist

2023.03.23 09:13 Exciting_Ad_5988 I think my girlfriend (22F) gaslights me (23M)

Tl;dr: I got (rightfully) down/upset about my girlfriend's actions today. She played the victim (imo) and made me feel like I should feel bad for feeling bad. It is not the first time she has done it.

Brief background: We have been together since end of 2022 and things are usually great. We tend to have a very open and solid communication (we kinda make it the foundation of our relationship). It is very important for us to express to each other how we feel about situations, with full honesty and transparency. I'm finishing my education in Psychology so the vast majority of the time i'm very empathetic about everything and she tells me that a lot. She has grown up with a lot of conflict with her parents and, thus, tends to have defensiveness as a go-to response to stuff sometimes. All in all, however, it is a very positive and fulfilled relationship so far.

The problem: Today I woke up late for class because last night I was applying some tests on a patient and it went on until past midnight. I'm usually late to every class and it has started to affect my attendance and therefore my passing of the subject. She got very upset at that, and when we went for lunch (super quickly) today, she scolded me quite directly. Nevertheless, I fully feel like i deserve whatever she told me. Her opinion matters a lot and i felt it as harsh words coming from love.
The rest of the day, we have class until evening. She has an exam so she doesnt reply for many hours; then, she went to some friends house to chill for a bit with her group. She replied very little for most of the day and when she did, it was 2 or 3 very dry words.
I'm fine with not getting replies the entire day but I feel that when it has been a rough day for me, it only makes me feel more sad and alone when she basically shows no interest in talking for the entire day.
Fast forward to 1am where she's finally home and calls me. I'm visibly upset and we have a conversation about everything. I express to her SO many times that im NOT upset that she scolded me and i agree with her, but i just felt sad all day because of the nature of how our conversation for the rest of the day. (btw at no point did i complain or say anything - i was just very quiet after she clearly had no intentions of conversing all day).
She apologizes for being harsh and tries to make me feel better. Until there, all good. I was still upset but i told her i'd feel better in the morning and we hung up cause her sister was about to sleep.
She texts me right after the call and tells me that she is hurt about how i reacted to everything. I ask her to elaborate. after, listening and replying, i remind her that im not upset about her scolding, just about the rest. She seems to not register this because one thing leads to another and she is now very upset. She starts saying things like "what i say isnt worth shit i guess" and "i guess im gonna the bad ex-girlfriend who never tried to help".
Essentially, everything was fine until i had the feeling like i was now supposed to be apologizing for feeling bad.

This isnt the first time it happens. In the past she has done the same thing multiple times (me VALIDLY expressing being upset, and somehow it ends in me apologizing for one thing or another).
Last time she even recognized it and apologized herself. This time i told her she was trying to be a victim (something she has told me a few times in the past) and she got even more upset.
So am i totally out of place or do i have the right to be upset and not have the focus shift on her every single time im upset about something? I used to give into it because I couldn't see clear but the more often it happens, the more it hurts.

2023.03.23 09:12 sph_ere How to disclose a possibly strange fixture?

I co-manage a four story, 2b2b house located in prime real estate in a large city. The listing has been up for two months, and we have hosted +10 groups and have a 5.0 rating with 6 reviews. All is going well. However, a couple experiences with this one and others I manage have left me rattled and thinking of ways to waterproof my listing and communication strategies as much as possible.
Now, the house has a feature that may come across as strange to guests. It is a large wooden altar on the fourth floor, same floor as the rooftop and laundry. The house is in a Southeast Asian country, and we get mostly international guests that may be unfamiliar with this type of thing. Every house and business in the country has some variation of altars somewhere, but I'm not sure how common it is in Airbnbs.
This altar's not in use or anything, house is rented out full time. Big altar is not in a closed room with a door, it is not possible to make it entirely inaccessible, but we have put the whole space it's in behind thick curtains. There is also a much smaller version in a small alcove on the first floor that is visible when you first walk in, we put a plant in front of that one. We do not currently have photos or any mention of altars in the listing or communications.
Its never come up so far in reviews or messages that I know of. Should I even try to mention it somewhere in the description? If so, how? I feel that this is a cultural aspect that people should respect, and that I can try and play up almost like a feature. But unfortunately my experience with many travelers being not as understanding with (to me minor but I recognize they may think differently) local and cultural quirks as I would wish for, has led me to this point of feeling the need to warn people. Competition is huge in the local market, prices are super low, and theres not much margin for even the smallest dissatisfaction from guests. Thanks in advance!
I edited the text ten mins after posting for better grammar.
