2023.03.23 08:16 guaranic Crossword maker with user-defined words

I want to make a NYT-style crossword with a handful of clues I set (to make a theme), but with the ability to autofill the rest and figure out how to put it together.
I run into an issue making crosswords where I put in specific words, but they end up being problematically placed initially and it's a massive pain reorganizing everything afterwards (or having some criminally difficult words to glue things together). I'd rather the computer takes the words I give it and figures out how to slot them in + the regular dictionary autofill. Is there software that can do that?

The Story: After a confusing encounter at a McDonald’s register turns violent, Jon is pulled into a magical bloodbath - and his only chance for survival lies with the pissed-off, perpetually-broke immortal working behind the counter.
---------------------------------
All around the campfire, the others jerked away from the growing smoke. Amber wheeled around, her gloved hand going up.
Me, I just stood there, heart hammering in my throat. It was the adrenaline more than anything. I wasn’t even really scared by it all. I think even then, I already knew what was coming.
The smoke faded away—leaving Anke standing a few paces from the campfire.
Aedan lurched, suddenly left holding empty air instead of a very-real person, and caught himself before he could hit the ground. He stiffened, glaring at Anke. “You.”
“You always were quick on the uptake,” Anke said with a sigh, brushing her hair out of her face. It was another of her lookalikes, but I recognized this one. A favored body, then? I still didn’t have a clue how she worked.
Aedan scowled, rocking back on his heels. “Fucking bitch. You just couldn’t hold yourself back, could you?”
“Uh,” I heard Mason mumble. He shook his head, still staring at Anke. “H-How long were you going to stay like that?”
“Until you discovered me,” Anke said, a smile curling at her lips. Her eyebrow twitched. “How did you recognize me, while we’re on the subject?”
“You didn’t do shit to help,” Aedan retorted. “The resemblance was so striking I couldn’t miss it.”
“And you,” I said, my eyes widening as I glanced to Cailyn. “You told Brendon to go straight to Ricardo. No check-in with Anke needed.”
Cailyn chuckled, ducking her head low. “I did say there was a compromise.”
“Are you really sure you can afford to be here?” To my surprise the words came from Amber, who stood with a pole hanging from one hand a few steps away. “You have a war on.”
“Ah,” Anke said. She pressed a hand to her forehead, sinking down onto a log. “Yes, it is quite a conundrum, is it not?”
Amber’s nostrils flared. “I’m just saying-”
“I have spent my eternity creating an organization that can stand on its own, though,” Anke said. She smiled gently. “I am available should anything arise, but my commanders would not require my minute by minute intervention regardless.”
“Oh,” Amber said. She nodded, even if the gesture looked a little begrudging. “That…makes sense. I guess.” As if remembering herself, she stepped away, returning to the tent. “Suit yourself.”
“Such rough handling, though,” Anke said, making a show of rubbing at her shoulder. This body had the same scarf as all the rest—and after Aedan was so concerned with seeing under ‘Anders’ jacket, along with the glimpse of the tattoo I’d seen across her disguise’s chest, I was starting to think that was more than just a particular fashion preference. “Did you have to wrestle me?”
“The last time I didn’t catch you, you stabbed me,” Aedan snapped. “So you can fuck all the way off.”
Anke chuckled indulgently, eyebrows rising. “But you remembered the lesson.”
Aedan let out a long, ragged sigh, throwing up his hands. “Just stop crying. Help a little instead. We’ve got work to do.”
A murmur of assent ran through the rest of the group. Amber and Mason were even then hoisting up a scattered assortment of tents, and Cailyn strode around the outskirts of our makeshift camp, fingers tense. Laying her shadow over us, I had to assume.
Well, we were nearly finished setting up, at least. Shaking my head, I turned back to the SUV. Our sleeping bags were mounded in the back. Once the tent was up, I could lay those out. Our dinner was cooling in a heap of golden-marked white bags on the backseat. The sooner we got everything set up, the sooner we could relax and unwind after what’d been a surprisingly stressful day.
So grumbling to myself, I grabbed a string of bags in each fist and hauled. Turning, I-
“Jonathan,” Anke said. She’d come up on me while my back was turned, standing right behind me with one hand cupped to her chin.
Hadn’t expected that. I froze. “Uh. Hi?”
“Just a word, nothing more,” Anke said, waving a hand in front of her face. “I do so miss the tongue of my homeland, you know. There are scant few who speak it anymore, even in that region of the world. Not in any form that would look similar, you understand.”
I swallowed, my brow furrowing. “That’s…great, but-”
“Normally, I am most grateful for the opportunity you provide for me to hear it spoken again,” Anke said. Her gaze sharpened. “However, in the current circumstances, I fear such frivolities are a hindrance rather than an asset.”
O…kay. What was she on about now? I stared at her a moment longer, still trying to work through it. “I don’t-”
Anke let out a tiny, pained sigh. Her arms dropped to her sides—and then she raised a hand to gesture toward Cailyn, who even then paced around the campsite, arms outstretched.
“Our survival depends upon Cailyn’s ability to keep us hidden,” she said softly. “And your constant spewing of magic in every direction is making her job infinitely more difficult.” Her lips compressed tightly. “While it is personally satisfying to me, I would ask you to cease, for the sake of this mission.”
Oh. Now I understood. Looking down, I shrank back, trying to withdraw from my relic as best I could. “I-”
I shut my mouth again, bobbing my head instead. My cheeks burned. She was one of the strongest demis on the goddamn continent—and I could barely control my own magic. “Sorry,” I mumbled, backing away. She turned with a sigh, striding over to join Cailyn.
As quickly as I could without totally looking like I was running away, I fled. My head spun. Crap. It was an entirely reasonable request for me to cut it out. We were hiding, me more than most. Continuing to broadcast our presence was a really bad idea, and I didn’t want to make trouble for Cailyn any more than Anke did. I needed to get a whole lot better at this in a hurry.
Letting my chin fall to my chest, I lugged the bags across the field to where a pair of tents stood. Amber and Mason milled around them, talking in low voices. I grimaced a little at the sight of them. Two tents—boys and girls, no doubt. The thought of replacing Amber with Aedan and Mason as bedpartners was…not appealing. It was just for a little while, I told myself. I would be fine.
Crouching low at the entrance to the first, I pulled the straps on the bag loose, unfurling the sleeping bag within one fistful at a time. The process was methodical enough for me to sink into the repetition of it, casting off my worries for a moment.
But when the last bag was empty, the two tents filled with warm coziness waiting for our arrival, I had nothing left to do but stand, brushing myself off, and rejoin the others for dinner.
My eyes caught on the sight of Aedan standing off to one side, though, staring off into the forest. He didn’t look happy. Not that he ever looked all that happy, but…given Anke’s unexpected arrival, I supposed it made sense for him to be a little sour.
He looked up at the sound of my approach, though. “Jonny,” he said with a sigh. “Something I can do for you?”
“Um.” I ran a hand across my face, trying to massage away the tension. It didn’t work. “Can…I ask you something?”
“What?” Aedan said, furrowing his brow. “I mean, yeah. You’ve never given a shit about permission before, why start now?”
True, I supposed. I nodded, but didn’t look up. “Am I speaking old Irish or whatever to you again? That ancient language stuff?”
“Ah,” Aedan said. “...Yes?” I glanced up at last, finding him grinning sheepishly back at me. “You never really stopped, if I’m being honest. I mean, I don’t mind, it’s kind of nice in a way, but-”
“Anke does,” I mumbled. My shoulders hunched higher, as though I could wipe myself clean off the face of the planet. “So I…I kind of need to sort this out. Fast.”
“Oh.” Aedan scrubbed at his face, sliding his hand up to rake at his hair. “Yeah, okay. Fair enough, I guess. I can see how that might be a problem.”
“Yeah,” I said. “I need to get better at it, and it’s not like I can practice by myself. So-”
“So you need a study partner again,” Aedan said, cracking a grin once more. “Is that it?”
I reddened again, looking away. “If you don’t mind.”
“I dunno,” Aedan said with a sigh. “My schedule’s pretty packed with sitting around. Driving places. It’s hard work. I’m not sure I can squeeze you in.”
“Look, just-”
“We’ll make it work,” he said, his voice dropping to a gentler note. “You’ve just got to take a more active role in your magic, that’s all. You’ve got, what, a decade and a half of habits to break here?”
“Oh, don’t put it like that.”
He chuckled. “I’ll do what I can to help. I mean, don’t expect too much. I’m not exactly someone who uses super-active magic myself.” He hesitated, his gaze dropping. “Until then, ah…”
I grimaced. “Yeah,” I mumbled. Reaching up, I slipped my necklace off, ignoring the way my pulse beat a little faster as it left my skin. I shoved it as deep into my pocket as I could, shaking my head. “Just have to not lose it, I guess.”
“Please don’t,” Aedan said mildly. He jerked his head back toward camp. “C’mon. We can practice a little later. Food’s getting cold.”
I wasn’t really feeling hungry anymore—but I knew he was right. This isn’t that big a deal. You can learn to stop doing it. Anke won’t kill you if you’re trying. It didn’t really make me feel any better, but there was no sense sulking, either.
So I followed Aedan toward our dinner, silent and relic-less, and tried to put any thoughts of magic from my mind.

2023.03.22 23:26 colonel-o-popcorn Since people kept mentioning the NYT crossword in chat today, here's a brief pro/con overview.

I don't know about the specifics for other syndicated crosswords, but I expect the situation is broadly similar for WaPo, LA Times, and USA Today.
Cons
  1. Yes, you have to pay for the full-size puzzles. (Though the Mini is free.) The Games-only subscription is $5/month. IMO, easily worth it if you do crosswords in your free time, but might not be worth it just for the sake of streaming.
  2. Wednesday-Friday puzzles are probably too difficult to be entertaining on stream at NL's current skill level. At least without consulting chat. I think the average Wednesday would be a half-hour-ish investment and the average Friday would probably be a DNF. (Mondays and Tuesdays are a similar difficulty to the crosswords he already does.)
Pros
  1. The puzzles are better. Not a mind-blowing quality difference, but good constructors rely less on straightforward clues or obscure trivia and more on cleverness and wordplay.
  2. You also get access to several other games. Some of them are perfect end-of-stream time fillers, they take about 5-6 minutes and are pretty watchable. Not necessarily better than the web games he's been playing, but good for variety.
  3. You get access to the full archive of NYT crosswords going back to the 90s. Even if he only does the Mondays, that's as much crossword content as you could possibly ask for.
  4. Thursdays always have an interesting gimmick, so if the difficulty becomes less of a problem, they could be a fun weekly thing.
  5. There's a daily Mini, a free 5x5 crossword that generally takes under a minute to finish. Again, could be good to add to the end-of-stream rotation even if a paid subscription is unappealing.
I put the cons first because he mentioned them on stream as reasons he didn't want to do syndicated crosswords. He's about 95% correct on both issues, so we're probably not getting an NYT crossword stream any time soon. I'm really just posting this in the hopes that (1) he'll try the Mini and (2) people will stop talking about this in chat all the time.

2023.03.22 23:15 TrueHeirOfVoldemort Charmed Reboot 1x01

I will be rewatching the reboot and reviewing it after certain things have made me realize that I do not like most other fans’ opinions of things. They seem overly critical, especially fans of the original Charmed.
For reference, I have seen and enjoyed all seasons/episodes of the original, but only the first two seasons of the reboot, and I don’t remember most of the reboot that I’ve seen. I will not be comparing the two. I personally feel that everyone compares the original and the reboot, and that doesn’t give the reboot a fair chance in my opinion. Same name and premise aside, the reboot is not the original, and it has its own storyline, characters, and rules, and thus should be judged on its own merits.
Charmed Reboot Season 1, Episode 1
So the first line of the reboot: “This is not a witch hunt.” It’s a good opening line, got me interested.
I liked the scene with Mel, Maggie, and their mother. It was actually nice that we got to see the mom of the Charmed Ones so early on. And their dynamic screams close so far.
Okay. Next scene was pretty bad. The “get naked” text was pretty out of left field. And I’m already not a fan of Brian. Stalker much? Also, why does he come off as a high schooler?
I actually loved the mom’s death scene. It was sufficiently creepy and gave a mystery to run off of. That said, Mel’s already beginning to annoy me. I thought this show was supposed to be feminist, not misandric. Replacing one prejudice for another is not what I’m here for. Side note, for some reason, I love Lucy already. She’s adorable.
I like Macy already, and Maggie for that matter. Don’t ask why. Not a fan of Galvin, his character’s coming off pretty dry, and he’s giving me “Lean on me because I’m the man” vibes, and ew. Also, not getting any chemistry. Dr. Thaine, meanwhile, is seriously creepy, and not in a good way.
More sexism from Mel. Gross. And Harry is also creepy. Fun (sarcasm). Starting to get the sense that this show is trying way too hard to make all the men come off as creeps.
Proven more with the next scene and Cam. This is getting ridiculous.
Yeah, Macy is already my fave of these sisters. Hating Mel. Maggie is okay though, so far. I take back what I said about the seeming closeness. That said, while I have no clue why Macy didn’t go to their house during the day like a normal person when it would be less suspicious, I did like the whole lightning flash/power outage. It brought back the creepy feels, in a good way, from the scene where the mom died.
And we get to the powers! Macy has telekinesis. An iconic power, and it suits her. Mel has freezing time. That scene with her was actually cool, kind of hoping it’s actual chronokinesis cause that would be bomb. And as a side note, while I still don’t like Mel as a character, digging Niko so far, and those two at least have chemistry, unlike Macy/Galvin and Maggie/Brian. And Maggie has telepathy! That’s actually my favorite power. While I would prefer it didn’t require touch, I still love that she has it. All of the powers seem like they’ll be useful and I love that. Other side notes: 1) I’d have put the scene of Mel’s power activation before Maggie’s, but I’m also OCD so it bugs me the power reveals weren’t in birth order. Lol 2) Still loving Lucy. lol 3) Mel getting kidnapped looked so frickin’ stupid, omg.
So I liked the attic scene as a whole. Harry redeemed himself in my eyes, just on account of how adorable he was in it. Lol And more mystery!
Side note: I know that I said that I wouldn’t compare the two shows, so I’m only bringing this up cause it somewhat has to do with this specific Charmedverse, and I’ve also noticed that others who have tried this show tend to bring it up negatively. The Melinda Warren reference. I don’t think that was meant to tie this show and the original into the same universe, I think it was just a throwback, same as them using the word “whitelighter”. Back to the reboot.
Brian’s still being a stalker. But Mel and Niko are actually really cute together.
Demon dog was as stupid as the Mel kidnap scene.
I will say I’m loving the new whitelighter powers, and the revamp of the old ones, feels more modern. I liked Macy solving the demon crisis with science. You don’t normally see that in magic-centric shows. Good acting from Sarah Jeffery with the mini breakdown she had regarding their mother. And the Maggie kidnap scene definitely came off better than Mel’s, more real and suspenseful, even if it was just a rush prank.
Still loving Lucy.
The possessed Brian scene was really stupid, ridiculous, and annoying. They need to stop with the feminist shit, at least the way they’re doing it. It’s not coming off as feminist, it’s coming off as forced and like they’re turning it into a joke, and it’s offensive. Also, the way the demon was vanquished…. I feel like I’m watching the Disney channel. Side note: Can Brian just… disappear? He seriously comes off like a high school minor, so the romance stuff with him just makes me uncomfortable. He and Maggie don’t even have chemistry… and I’m kind of glad about that.
I liked the following sisterhood scenes. They’re getting back to close and I’m not hating Mel so much anymore, but I need to see more of her for more of a new (solid) opinion.
More faux feminism (back to disliking Mel, that was fast) and Thaine/Thaydeus’ (sp?) horrible characterization aside, the demon fight was actually good. And despite not wanting to do this, it has to be said. I am liking the actual spells. One of the only things I hated about the original show was the rhyming couplets as it didn’t fit the otherwise adult themes of that show.
And the ending cliffhanger was actually bomb and made me want to keep watching!
All in all and in conclusion, it wasn’t as bad as people make it out to be. Could it be better? Definitely. But it had as much good as bad so far, so I’m going to keep watching. If I could sit through all four seasons of Legacies, I think I can get through this. Lol
Tell me what you all thought of this episode in the comments below, and I’ll see everyone for my Season 1, Episode 2 review.

2023.03.22 20:41 RyluminYamata 34[M4F] Florida/Caribbean/Online - First vacation in years. Let’s eat some good food and chill.

I’m a simple guy. I work, pay bills, run errands, and enjoy my hobbies. Growing up, life was always envisioned as becoming highly educated, married, a nice house, children - the whole white picket fence story.
Life never goes the way one might think, especially when you grew up trying to please everyone but yourself. The past few years, I’ve worked on myself - lost 70lbs, cooking for myself, learning to say no, and indulging in the little things in life that brings me joy.
I believe I’m finally in a place where I’m happy with the way things are, except for one thing. I’ve always put romance on the back burner. While I know I have a lot of love to give, I lacked confidence and was always insecure about my weight. I’m down to 155lbs from 225lbs (thanks Keto!) and it feels amazing to not be uncomfortable in my own skin. I’m still aiming to lose 10lbs more before my trip to Disney Springs (there won’t be any dieting on vacation). It may sound like a low weight for a guy, but I’m not all that tall at 5’6”.
I come from a close-knit family, and my friends are basically my second family. This is a part of the Caribbean lifestyle. Yes, I live in the Caribbean. Location doesn’t matter when getting to know one another, and LDR isn’t a problem, but if things progress then living apart isn’t something I want. Of course there’s no rush, and I don’t expect either of us to pick up our lives and move without a proper meeting(s) and seeing how well we mesh in person. As I will be in Florida on vacation, it would be great to get some dating experience if the opportunity arises. I’ve been out of the dating scene for over 10 years and have no clue what I should be doing. Maybe dinner and a movie? Exploring Disney? Maybe that’s all too old-fashioned? I’m open to suggestions!
In terms of communication, I would like to stick to messages at first before voice chatting. I am an introvert and social anxiety bares it’s head every now and then, but I’ve also worked on both of those things during my weight loss journey. We can message on Reddit at first then move to Discord if it’s more convenient as it’s my main messaging app. I’m not big on social media, so no Snapchat or Instagram, but that’s my personal preference as I’m a fairly private person.
As I’ve mentioned Discord, I will say now that I’m a nerdy guy. Video games, Marvel, DC, Anime, Technology, etc. are all interests of mine. While I would love to have someone who shares interest in all of these things, it’s definitely not required. I consider myself well-versed in many subject matters, and my personality allows me to fit into various social groups. I can separate my hobbies from life in general. Of course, if you’re into any of these things, it would be awesome, but again, it’s not required.
I also enjoy building model kits, cooking, baking, making ice cream, and working with my hands. I know my profile lacks food pics, but I promise I have tons of pics of things I’ve made that are all Keto friendly and look delicious. There’s also things that I’ve baked for family and friends too. One hobby that I would like to get into more is traveling. I’ve only been to a few places outside the Caribbean, and I’m hoping to travel more in the future. Hence, why I’m taking a vacation as it’s been over 3 years since my last trip.
I grew up in a strict Christian home, but I don’t consider myself to have any specific religious affiliation. I left that lifestyle behind after high school and while there are some values I still hold true, I don’t discriminate against anyone or push those values on others. I am monogamous, respectful, and a listener. I don’t have a problem with any religious affiliation once it’s not pushed onto me.
In truth, I’m not sure what I expect from this post. I’ve lurked on R4R for some time and have messaged a few people that caught my interest, but nothing came of it. I guess while I’m happier in life now, the loneliness has become more apparent and led me here. Meeting up to chill at Disney isn’t a requirement to send a message. It’s just a hopeful idea. I’ll be happy just to hear from anyone whose interest I gathered.
As appearances matter for many people, I don’t mind sharing a picture of myself upon request. I’m just not comfortable posting it in this message. If you do request a photo, I ask that you respond in kind with your photo as well.
Side Note: To all the guys who have messaged me wishing I was a woman, I’ve had a good laugh and appreciate the compliments.

2023.03.22 17:21 MjolnirPants Jerry and the Apocalypse: Part 54

Part 53
TW: Intense, masochistic sexuality.
Caliope, Clever Little Shit
Caliope sat in the back of the transport, still parked in front of the fancy house somewhere in south LA. Finally, she had her hands cuffed in front of her body, and she could reach her crotch. She dug fingers in her panties and inside of herself, reaching deep, into her posterior fornix. The thrill of stimulation there barely registered, even though it was her favorite spot for a cock or dildo to hit. She was too angry.
She pushed hard, twisting at the cuffs until she fit her entire hand inside of herself, and she could finally reach the scar. It had been there for years, waiting for this exact opportunity.
She dug her fingernails in, the sensitive tissue sending howling signals of pain to her brain, where her own psychology twisted them into signals of pleasure. Blood flowed as she scratched and clawed at herself, but she eventually found what she was looking for. Flesh parted, revealing a small, artificial lump.
She seized in in slippery fingers and pulled it out. It was a tiny handcuff key, with a tiny bit of her own brand of magic stored inside of it, wrapped in layers of cling-wrap. She quickly unwrapped it as blood soaked through her panties and smeared the seat.
She finally got it unwrapped and wasted no time unlocking her handcuffs. The bleeding did not concern her, she knew she would heal rapidly once she was done. She touched the key to the collar around her throat and felt the relief as its magic failed. She quickly used the sharpened tooth on the key to saw through the strap of the collar.
Her own magic filled her, and she let some of it turn to healing. She turned some more into physical strength. Then she checked the doors.
Locked, of course. The DCM was not known for ignoring non-magical security measures. She saw the two officers moving towards her vehicle, and decided that violence was the way to go. She placed her hands in her lap and waited.
They climbed in and started the vehicle.
"Listen," the driver said. "Here's how this works. You don't give us any problems, we don't give you any problems, okay?"
She nodded. "I understand," she said. "No problems."
"Good. We're probably gonna hit a drive-thru on the way. You can get something if you're hungry," the passenger said. Caliope nodded. "Thank you," she said, demurely. A drive-thru would be the perfect time to strike.
She sat in the back quietly as they drove her north. Around Anaheim, they pulled into a Jack in the Box, stopping in front of the menu. "Figure out what you want," the passenger said, turning to face her. "It's my treat."
Caliope smiled at him. He smiled back, then turned to face forward, and that's when Caliope struck.
She felt like she'd gotten a raw deal, the last time. She had never really gotten the chance to fight, except when she faced off with that psycho lunatic who'd surprised her and beaten her to within an inch of her life before she even understood what was happening. She had been training to fight for years and years, and yet when the time came, she managed to catch the guy who was, according to everything she understood, out standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the gods themselves.
But these two, they were former soldiers or cops. Not demigods, not magical beings of immense power.
She surged forward and grabbed the driver by the head, digging fingers into his eye sockets. The man let loose a howl that brought a smile to her face as she blinded him and slammed his head against the seat rest. She brought her feet up and wedged them against the back of his seat even as the passenger spun, a can of paper spray coming up. She ignored him, even as the magical shield triggered by the can popped into place on the man's face and tried -unsuccessfully, thanks to her fingers- to form over the driver's face.
The man let loose and the liquid splattered her face, immediately causing an intense burning sensation. She shuddered as the pain made her cum and redoubled her efforts. With magically enhanced strength, it didn't take long to bend the headrest back, hyperextending the man's neck. His struggles abruptly stopped as she felt something pop in his body and he slumped against her.
The passenger had apparently realized that the pepper spray was just this side of worthless and drawn his sidearm. He thrust it towards he, and she had just enough time to duck her head and seize his wrist before it went off.
The sound was deafening in the enclosed space. Caliope's ears rang as she squeezed the man's wrist and slammed it into his own headrest. He reached back with his free hand and grabbed a handful of her hair, yanking forward and slamming her face into the back of his seat. She felt her nose break and another orgasm swept through her as she grabbed the hand holding her head.
She slammed his wrist again and again, and finally he dropped the gun. She tried to catch it, but missed and it clattered to the floor. She reached down for it, but the man's grip on her hair kept her from it. She strained against him, reaching for the gun.
His right hand vanished, then she felt a heavy impact in her side. She glanced down to see the man drawing the four-inch blade of a combat knife out of her ribs. The impact began to throb and burn as she whipped her head around and warded his knife off with one hand, still straining for the gun with the other.
The knife darted and slashed, opening her arm in two places. She brushed the gun with her fingertips, shifting it. Caliope sucked in a deep breath, ignoring the burning in her side and her arm that made her want to touch herself, and yanked down hard on the hand holding her hair. Her scalp erupted into more burning as he yanked a large clump of hair out by the roots, but she could now reach the gun.
She picked it up and pressed it to the back of the seat, squeezing the trigger until the slide locked back. The cracks of the shots were loud, but her still-ringing ears muted them. The guard slumped, his hands going limp. He dropped the knife into the foot well.
Caliope leaned back and gave in to the urge that had been with her ever since the pepper spray struck her. She wiped her face, wetting her hands and then stuck them both in her panties, coming immediately as her vulva began to burn. She played with herself for several minutes, until she couldn't afford to remain here any longer. Someone in the restaurant or the buildings nearby would have heard the gunshots and the local police might be on the way already.
She grabbed the driver and hauled him into the back, then climbed up to the driver's seat. She put the vehicle, still idling, back into drive and spun it around, pulling back out of the parking lot.
She glanced at the body next to her. "You don't give me any trouble, I won't give you any trouble," she said with a grin.
----
A few miles later, she pulled into a mostly empty parking lot in front of a strip mall. She turned onto the road as she reached over and patted the pockets of the dead guard. She found his cellphone in his pants pocket and pulled it out. She used his phone to unlock it and opened the web browser, typing in a URL that she knew by heart. It took a second to load, and when it did, it immediately loaded a chat room.
U there? she typed and hit send. She waited.
Less than ten seconds passed before the indicator that someone was typing flashed on. A few seconds after that, a new message appeared.
Waiting on u, it said. Caliope grinned.
I no where theres guns an shit, Caliope typed, pausing to check the history of the vehicle's on-board GPS. in san clemente. im in anaheim rn
The typing icon appeared, cycled through its animation and vanished.
Coming there where r u? the chat read. Caliope's grin widened. She hit back on the GPS until it showed her current location, giving the intersection at the top.
Euclid st n katelia ave, in a car w dcm stickers by the arbys
A second later, the icon appeared and then vanished before it could animate.
Omw, the chat read.
Caliope turned and wrestled the other guard's body into the back, then got out and opened the rear hatch. She found raincoats, rifles, a shotgun and assorted gear, mostly tools that would be useful in a rescue situation. She grabbed a raincoat and a blanket and then closed it up.
She threw the blanket over the bodies in the back, then stripped out of her bloody clothes and threw the raincoat on. It was translucent, but she didn't care. She checked their pockets and then the center console of the vehicle, finding a few bills in their wallets and a mass of change in the center console. She took it and walked into a laundromat that was part of the strip mall.
She washed her clothes, smiling at the men who kept sneaking peeks at her body through the raincoat. After they came out of the dryer, she stripped right there and pulled them on. Two of the younger men cheered for her when she pulled the raincoat off.
She left and went to sit in the driver's seat of the DCM vehicle. She waited for another thirty minutes, until a beat-up old Toyota pulled into the spot next to her, and her sister and two men climbed out.
She rolled down the window. "Hulks or ninjas?" she asked the two men. Both sneered at her. "Hulks," one of them said, sounding offended. She smiled. "Good. There's only four guards left to watch the place until the cops come. If we hurry, this should be easy."
----
"Griselda, are you done?" Caliope asked, sticking her head into the kitchen. Griselda sat there, in front of the last survivor of their assault on Garcia's home. He was slumped over, insensate, the hand she had duct-taped to the table by the wrist flayed open to expose muscle and tendons.
Griselda pouted at her sister. "He fainted," she said.
"We're all geared up," Caliope told her. "We're ready to decide what to do."
Griselda stood. She picked up a sewing needle from the table and jammed it into the man's shoulder as she passed him by, but he didn't react. He really was out cold.
The two hulks, Johnny and Bob, stood in the living room, next to the shimmering portal.
"So where we going? We splitting up, or sticking together?" Bob asked.
"Well," Griselda said. "We don't really have any money. Just a couple hundred bucks. And we're on the run, so we need money."
"These guns are worth a pretty penny," Johnny said, hefting a shotgun. Caliope shook her head. "They're not worth enough for us to split up and vanish, the way we need to."
"Duke told us what to do," Bob pointed out.
"He goes by 'Dylan' now," Griselda told him, glancing at Caliope for confirmation. She nodded.
"He did, but the question is whether we want to work for him again," Caliope said.
"I don't give a shit who I work for, as long as I get paid," Johnny said.
"Duke was always good about making sure we got paid," Bob agreed.
Caliope was less sure. She looked at her sister, who shrugged. "Why not?" Griselda asked. "I mean, it's right there. The dead world. We don't even have to look for it, it's right in front of us."
Caliope nodded. Finding the dead world had always been the 'tricky part' of Duke-er, Dylan's emergency plan. But there it was, right through that portal. With that problem solved, the idea of teaming back up with their old boss was a bit more appealing.
"Fuck it," Caliope said. Griselda grinned at her. "Let's go."
They all walked through the portal, checking behind them to make sure the way back was still there as they emerged onto a concrete road, surrounded by concrete buildings and dried-out corpses. It was, the dark ritual room a shocking contrast to the midday sun around them.
"Okay, now which way?" Johnny asked after they'd all walked through. As if in response, a thunderous roar sounded from off in the distance.
"Towards the monster," Caliope said. Griselda took her hand, digging her nails in, making Caliope whimper. She slipped a hand down the back of her sister's pants and slipped a finger into her ass, wiggling it. They smiled at each and turned to share a deep kiss for a moment before they took off, following the two men.
They trudged through the city for over an hour, not seeing any sign of whatever had done the roaring. Caliope noted the bodies and made a game of trying to guess what they'd been doing when they died. She soon roped Griselda into it, and they began guessing out loud. Before too long, Johnny and Bob joined in.
"Those two were fucking, for sure," Johnny said, pointing to a pair of corpses, one piled on the other.
"With their pants on?" Caliope asked skeptically.
"Fine, but those two were definitely fucking," Bob said, stopping and pointing down an alley. Caliope looked, and sure enough, another pair of corpses were piled there. The one on top had pants around its ankles, and the one on the bottom had a skirt that was hiked up.
They all stopped to laugh at that pair, killed in the middle of their tryst.
Johnny walked over and began messing with the corpses before throwing his head back and laughing. Griselda crouched down next to him, then began to giggle and raised the man's hand to slap her palm against it.
"What?" Caliope asked?
"She's got a toy in her asshole, and the dude is still inside her," Johnny explained, wiping tears from his eyes. Caliope grinned. "Adventurous," she quipped.
"Jesus," Bob said, checking it out for himself. "How fucking jaded do you gotta be to have to get your rocks off by getting DPed in public?"
Griselda jabbed him in the ribs, hard. "Don't mock people's kinks," she said.
Bob turned a look on her. "Oh, you like getting DPed in public? Maybe Johnny and I could help you out a bit," he said. Caliope noted a certain gleam in his eyes and decided to speak up.
"How could you do that, Bob, after my sister cuts your dick off?"
"Heh," Bob chuffed, straightening up. "I know you two have your tricks, but I wouldn't need to get big to toss you both around like rag dolls. Trust me, if I decide to fuck you, I'm gonna fuck you."
"Jesus fuck," Johnny objected. "Shut the fuck up, Bob. If you try to rape one of them, I'll help them beat the shit out of you. We've got more important shit to worry about, right now."
Caliope nodded in agreement. She was beginning to like Johnny. He had that big, blonde gringo thing going for him, and he seemed to have a good head on his shoulders.
"Johnny's right, Bob," she said. "And we can target our silence, you know. We could stop you from getting big, while letting him."
Bob laughed, though she detected a tinge of nerve in his tone. "You guys are way too uptight. Can't even tell when you're being fucked with."
"Well, let's stop fucking around," Caliope said. "In fact, we should stop talking, so we can hear if anything's approaching. I'd hate for whatever made that roar to catch us flat footed, talking about whose dick is going in whose asshole."
"My dick," Griselda said, "Goes in everyone's asshole." She stood and brushed sand off her pants, walking away from the fateful lovers.
Johnny joined her, leaving Bob to trail behind as they set off again.
They walked the rest of the afternoon in silence. As the sun set, they stopped to confer about what to do, deciding to stop in an intact building. They had Bob go out and gather grass and leaves and crumbling sticks to make a fire with, and then they heated up some of the camp food they'd found.
After eating, they cleared spaces on the floor and set up their sleeping bags, then went to sleep.
Caliope waited until she could hear three voices snoring before she climbed out of her bag. She stripped down to nothing and walked out of the building. The night sky looked different, she thought. The stars were different and the milky way was thicker and less bright.
She found the bench she'd spotted on their way in. It had small, sharp looking fins protruding from the arms which had caught her eye. She placed a leg on the seat and lowered herself, grinding her hips back and forth. The fins tore at the skin of her vulva, the tugging, burning pain making her body tingle. Blood dripped onto the rusty metal, and she wondered idly if she'd get tetanus from it.
The idea excited her. It was suppose to be a painful condition.
She didn't hear the footsteps approaching over her own whimpers and gasps. She didn't know anyone was behind her until she felt a pair of large hands grab her hips.
She spun, expecting to see Bob there, but it was Johnny. She smiled, seeing him.
"You want to help?" she asked.
"I'm not sure I can, now... You're all torn up," he said. She looked down to see the blood in her pubic hair and on the bench's arm.
"I heal," she said. "Like Dylan used to. It's part of the magic."
"Wish they'd given us that part," Johnny said. He leaned forward and brushed his lips against hers. She nipped at his upper lip, making him pull back. "Don't bite," he said.
"How else do I get you to bite back?" she asked playfully. She ground herself against the bench again, feeling the slight pop as each fin caught and then came loose of her flesh.
"Ask nicely," Johnny said.
Caliope grinned, then contorted her face into a parody of pleading. "Please bite me," she whispered. Johnny eyed her skeptically for a moment, then suddenly dipped his head and sank his teeth into her neck. She gasped as he did and moaned.
"Harder," she whispered. His teeth clamped down more.
"Harder," she murmured. She felt the sudden release of tension as he broke the skin.
"Harder," she said. He let go, and she could see blood on his lips. He lifted her up and bit down on one of her nipples, and the heat of an orgasm swept her mind away for a moment. When she regained her senses, she cried "Harder!"
He flipped her around and dropped her onto the arm of the bench. It jabbed painfully into her stomach and ripped skin at the tips of each fin. She came again, shuddering as Johnny pressed one hand down on her back. She felt him roughly shove a finger into her ass, followed by a second, making her moan.
As she felt his knuckles slip inside of her, another pair of hands, smaller and softer, grabbed her head and pushed it down, smacking her cheek against the backrest. Caliope caught a glimpse of her sister between the metal bars and grinned. Nobody could hurt her quite like Griselda.
"Here," Griselda said. "Let me show you what she likes."
Caliope melted away in an ocean of delicious agony.
----
Bob seemed oblivious to what he had missed out on the next morning. Caliope moved slowly, not because any injuries lingered, but because a slight ache remained low in her stomach, and she wanted to savor it.
Johnny managed to avoid getting clingy, which Caliope appreciated. Too many men thought that fucking her meant they were now a couple of some sort, and that she needed catering to. Johnny didn't care. He packed his own bag quickly and then started the fire up again and began cooking, never so much as offering to help either of the sisters with their stuff.
They got packed up, then got some food, and then set off. Caliope was beginning to worry that they might be moving in the wrong direction, but they had no other clues to tell them where to go.
It was shortly after noon, and they had left the city, moved through a small suburb and out into the dead countryside when she heard voices. She brought a hand up, then turned and pressed a finger to her lips. Everybody crouched down, Johnny and Bob readying their guns.
The voices were getting closer, coming from the left side of the road. Caliope crept into the dead trees as quietly as she could, until she could see a break and the shine of another concrete road.
Eventually, they clarified, and Caliope could hear what they were saying.
"It's not that," one voice said, a woman's voice. "All things considered, especially with how fucking promiscuous he is, I don't really care about you two fucking. I care about him. He's been my friend for a while, and he's in a bad place."
"I did not initiate it," a second woman's voice said. "I know what he's going through. I don't want to do anything that would hurt him worse than he's already hurting."
"See, that's the thing," the first voice said. "I don't know that's true. Let me be clear, okay? I don't trust you. I know where you come from, and while I believe that you are your own person, with your own goals and whatever, I know that all of... You, comes from her. And the reason I came here is because I want her dead. I want her to die in agony, and you're a part of her."
"I am not her."
"I believe you. My concern is how much like her you are."
"Are we just going to talk about how little you trust me the whole day?"
"Nope!" the first voice said brightly. "I was just wrapping up. So if you do anything, and I mean anything, that I could possibly see as a betrayal, I'll cut your arms and legs off, stop you from healing, and feed you to Shadow."
"I understand," the second voice said coldly.
"I knew you would," said the first voice as two figured came around a bend on the other road. Both were young women, maybe in their mid twenties. One had jet-black hair with blonde roots pulled back into a ponytail, and was dressed in black tactical gear with goth makeup on. The other also had black hair, but it was longer and let free to fall down her back. She wore body armor over a t-shirt and gray cargo pants. The goth one carried a rifle, and the way her arm was casually draped over the stock suggested that she was very familiar with it.
Caliope froze, knowing that the slightest sound might draw their attention. She crossed her fingers, hoping the others wouldn't give away their presence, either. The two women walked, silent now, down the road, heading in the same direction they were moving in.
She watched them pass. When they vanished, she waited a minute or two to be sure before she returned to find the others gone.
She didn't have long to wonder where they'd gone, though. A moment after she got there, while she was still deciding which way they must have gone, the dead bushes rustled and began to shed leaves. Griselda and the two hulks appeared.
"Why'd you hide?" Caliope asked.
"There was a dude flying around," Johnny said.
"It was him," Griselda hissed, her face a mask of anger.
"The guy from the TV show," Bob added, though Caliope already knew who her sister was referring to. "The one that led the attack on the compound."
"Shit," Caliope cursed.
"What are we going to do?" Griselda demanded. Caliope held up a hand, demanding time to think.
After a moment, she gave voice to her thoughts.
"He has to be with the two I saw. At some point, he's got to land. If we follow them, we could get the jump on them."
Griselda's angry look turned into an eager grin. "I want him, after we kill the other two."
"Shit," Bob said. "If the other two are hot, I want one of them."
"So we'll kill one and capture two," Johnny said. "You recognize these fuckers, what do we have to deal with?"
"Nothing important," Caliope said. "Nothing dangerous, at least not once my sister and I take away their magic."
They all shared in Griselda's eager look, then.

2023.03.22 16:41 SlowShoes There are no games to play! (January-March Edition 2023)

https://www.rufftalkvr.com/blog/there-are-no-games-to-play-january-march-2023-edition/
When I read posts about how there are no games to play on the Quest, I simply can’t relate. I’m a voracious consumer of VR games, experiences and demos and currently have over 330 of them on my headset (not including my PCVR library). These experiences are a combination of both old and new items, and my wish list and library just keeps growing week after week with new releases, recommendations and game updates. This year, I wanted to keep track of all the games I’ve played and keep coming back to and catalogue them here in hopes that they may give you some fresh ideas of games to play, or reasons to revisit older games due to their updates or improvements.
Some of the games listed below, I can forsee playing all year long, and to be fair, others I've tried are not my cup of tea, but they may interest you enough to try them out. In either case, here are my quick thoughts on the 21 games I’ve played so far from January to March of 2023 along with links to them on the store.
  1. Bocce Time! ($8.99) From the developer: In Bocce Time! you'll head down to a peaceful park or atmospheric pier to test your bocce skills across 12 distinct courts. Jump into a quick match to 1v1 a random opponent online, create and join private rooms with up to 8 players, or play against AI across 3 difficulties to unlock additional ball customization options. With full cross-play, everyone's invited to join the fun! It's Bocce Time! My thoughts: This game has seen so many updates since it’s release and if you haven’t checked it out, there’s a free trial that opens up the whole game so you can try it out for yourself. With two parks (10 courses), an AI bot to challenge (that has great quips), collectible balls and support for up to eight people, this is a wonderful social game to play with friends. The Walkabout Mini Golf vibes are strong with this game, so players of that game will feel right at home. The latest update unlocked the entire park as a play area, and ensures that you and your friends will have unlimited options for where to play from. Along with Discord tournaments available if you're feeling competitive, this game is a real hidden gem and has grown a lot since its release. Absolutely worth a go, especially at that price point.
  2. Golf+ ($29.99) From the developer: GOLF+ is the ultimate VR Golf experience and the exclusive VR Golf game of the PGA TOUR. Join your friends for a round on Pebble Beach, Pinehurst No. 2, TPC Sawgrass and more. Want something more casual? Hang out at Topgolf for a night of music and games. My thoughts: Simply one of the best games on the app store. With all the great new updates such as Beat the Pro and new courses dropping every so often, it's one game that will be on my Quest until the next headset comes out. With the official PGA licenses, a variety of match options and support for four players, it’s an essential Quest game to play alone or with friends.
  3. Little Cities ($19.99) From the developer: Escape to the charming world of Little Cities, the most loved VR city building simulation game. Create your own little city and watch it come to life – from a humble village to a bustling metropolis. Design the layout and strategically plot amenities to make a perfect city where your citizens love to live. My thoughts: The latest update added citizens to the game. This adds a lot more flavor to your city and brings more life to your city. It’s a pretty simple SimCity style game that should keep you entertained for a few hours. I enjoyed this one, but wasn’t blown away. The extra DLC courses and achievements will give you more play time if you find yourself enjoying this one though.
  4. Compound ($19.99) From the developer: "COMPOUND is a randomized, rogue-lite, free-roaming shooter for Virtual Reality veterans. Duck and dodge around enemy fire in a tough-as-nails retro FPS with multiple locomotion options. Prepare to die - a lot - until you are good enough to reach the heart of The Corporation and take back what belongs to everyone..." My experience: Essentially Doom on Quest. The awesome blocky aesthetics work perfectly in this world. With a great gameplay loop and exciting gunplay this one will easily get its hooks into you. I found myself saying "just one more run" more often than I had time for. This single player shooter has so many achievements and difficulty levels that it kept me busy for quite some time. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with it and still have more to do. A must buy for any fan of the genre.
  5. Walkabout Mini Golf ($14.99) From the developer: 8 unique 18-hole courses to master. Unlock NIGHT MODE for more challenging versions of all courses. Play solo, 1v1 online quick match, or create a private room with up to 8 players. Extremely accurate physics feel just like the real thing. Collect over 188 custom balls hidden throughout. Solve treasure hunts on each hard course to earn special putters. My thoughts: What more needs to be said about this excellent game? It’s on my constant rotation of games to play alone, with friends, or even with strangers - as the community is so warm and welcoming. The community is truly one of the best, and there are several discord servers for tournaments, weekly meetups and more. An essential game that every Quest owner should have.
  6. VR Pool ($19.99) From the developer: ForeVR Pool brings the coolest pool halls from around the globe straight to your living room! Challenge friends, family, and in-game pros to a game of 8-ball pool – no table required. Battle 12 bots to level up and take on Legendary challengers. Join a Quick Match or jump into a private multiplayer party! Friend in town? Share your headset with Pass & Play. Up the ante and stake in-game coins in matches against other players. My thoughts: This was pretty feature-light and choppy when it first launched, but it now has 9-ball in addition to 8-ball. If you bought it early, it's worth a quick revisit. It sticks pretty true to the ForeVR formula with its aesthetics and collectibles. The graphics aren’t going to win any awards and frankly put me off of it when I first booted it up, but the physics hold up and it’s a good time against the AI or a friend. With 2v2 matches coming soon, that is where this game could really be worth revisiting for some multiplayer fun and friendly smack talk.
  7. After the Fall - (Played on PC $29.99, available on Quest $29.99) From the developer: Welcome to ‘The Line’... Decades have passed since the apocalypse turned 1980s Los Angeles into a snow-crested wasteland, overrun by mutated undead. Starting out in an underground camp with up to 32 other player survivors, you take up arms as a new Harvest Runner. Your mission? Venturing out above ground to expand the Line’s reach into the city and fuel mankind’s survival for another day. My thoughts: What a fun game. The gunplay and sheer amount of enemies on screen via PC is just stunning. You're set in an apocalyptic world and must shoot your way out while gathering resources. The atmosphere is stunning, and the graphics are top notch as well. While I’m sure it’s downgraded a bit to run on Quest, don’t let that hold you back. You can play this co-op with up to three other players and bots will fill you out to four. The teamwork this game offers is wonderful. Find a friend or two and jump in this one, or play with the ever-full lobbies of people looking to join up. The latest Descension update adds two new maps and a ton of other bug fixes and gameplay additions. It's a great time to jump in with a friend!
  8. Cosmoniuous High (Played on PC $29.99, available on Quest $29.99) From the developer: From the creators of award winning titles 'Job Simulator' and 'Vacation Simulator', comes a new original creation—the comically catastrophic Cosmonious High! Welcome to your alien high school that's definitely completely free of malfunctions! After crash-landing into your first day, you'll unlock powers, explore the halls, and save the school from cosmic chaos. My thoughts: I would consider this is the third entry in the Job Simulator series - even though it's technically not in the same world. I’d really recommend you play them in order to fully appreciate the experience this game has to offer. Job Simulator was the first game, with jokes and fun interaction. Vacation Simulator expanded on that idea with similar characters, and what Cosmonius does is take the ideas of object interaction and conversations and cranks it up to the max. I had so much fun experimenting, talking with NPC’s, exploring the school and seeing what story the game had to offer. This is one of those games that just speaks to people like me who likes to push the boundaries to see what you can do in a game and rewards players for experimenting. It's a heartwarming game that continues to get quality of life and accessibility updates.
  9. The Invisible Hours - (Played on PC $29.99, but coming out on Quest, currently available in the Rift store.) From the developer: The Invisible Hours is a complex murder mystery playable with or without a VR headset. Players freely explore an intricate web of interwoven stories within a sprawling mansion. A group of strangers receive a curious invitation from the enigmatic inventor, Nikola Tesla, offering each of them the chance to make amends for their darkest wrongdoings. When the last guest arrives at Tesla’s isolated mansion laboratory, they find him dead – murdered. Disgraced Swedish detective, Gustaf Gustav, vows to find the killer amongst the other guests: a blind butler, a convicted murderer, the world’s most famous actress, Tesla’s former assistant, the son of a wealthy railroad magnate, and rival inventor Thomas Edison. But none of these people are what they seem. My thoughts: I heard so many great things about this game and it's really more of an interactive story than anything. You find yourself moving around the mansion, piecing together the intricate story and learning how all these people relate to one another and their hidden secrets. I had a great time with this game, it had a unique concept that kept me fully engaged throughout.
  10. Pokerstars VR (Free) From the developer: PokerStars, the world’s leading poker brand, has combined live and online poker in a truly immersive VR experience. Featuring Quest Pro support with face and eye tracking, advanced haptics, and mixed reality passthrough! My thoughts: This is one of my go-to games with friends. Once you get past the initial low-stakes tables where kids play and go all-in on many hands, you’ll find a new set of players that actually play smart poker and like to chat. If you have some friends, you can create your own private room and avoid that all together. It’s a relaxing game where you can meet new people and just chill in VR. It’s my social game where I go to unwind. Recent updates have seen them add craps and social poker rooms with slots and roulette. If you're looking to relax and play some poker, this free to play game will hit the spot. You can easily play this game for free and not ever spend a dime.
  11. Path of the Warrior ($19.99) From the developer: We interrupt this broadcast with breaking news...chaos in the streets of Rage City tonight! The myriad local gangs, once at constant war with each other have now unified under a mysterious new crime boss...Mr. S. Thugs have flooded the entire city, unleashing a wave of terror. The police are overwhelmed and the public is in imminent danger! Can anyone put a stop to the crime wave? Can anyone save Rage City? My thoughts: This fighting game is one that you can blow off steam with. It harkens back to the old Double Dragon or Final Fight arcade days and I highly recommend you play through this game with a friend as you’ll be laughing your way through it at the absurd combos and interactive objects and scenery you can use to defeat your foes. Find a bit of open room to play in, and punch your way through the game.
  12. Half Life Alyx Mod: The Undertow - (PC only, Free) From the developer: You play as Alyx, tasked with delivering a mysterious briefcase to the owner of an underground night club, upon arriving you realize this deal might not be so straight forward... Expected Playtime: 50min - 1hr. Features: Full-fledged Story with Voice Acting, Custom Sounds, Assets, and Gameplay, Unique Puzzles & Engaging Combat, Full Single-Controller Support and Drinkable Vodka (Finally). My thoughts: I’ve been working my way through some Half Life Alyx mods that bubble up to the top via Reddit or online posts. This one found its way into my queue and while it had a really unique setting, it was extremely buggy in one spot, to the point where I had to restart a section close to 20 times. I didn't find the end game satisfying, and with so many other great mods, it was a miss for me.
  13. Sheaf - Together EP (PC only, Free) From the developer: Enter virtual reality to listen to the debut EP “Together” of synthwave producer Sheaf. No gameplay involved -- just sit back, relax, and enjoy the music while you drive through a retro low poly world. The EP features 3 tracks, and each track comes with its own scenery, tailor made to fit its mood. You can start each track separately from the main menu. My thoughts: As noted in the developer description, this is really more a zen-like experience where you’re sitting in a car that drives down a road while chill music is playing. Certainly different from a lot of other “zone out” experiences that focus on geometric shapes, but the blocky visuals really conflicted with the chill vibe it was going for. Not really my jam, but if you like chill experiences, it might be for you. You certainly can't beat the price.
  14. Shooty Fruity ($19.99) From the developer: Do your job whilst shooting guns! Shooty Fruity combines job simulation with exhilarating combat that makes you feel like a true action hero - whether McClane, Wick or Rambo. Take on new roles and unlock weapons to fight your way through your career. Scan shoot repeat! My thoughts: I kept seeing this game show up in sales and various feeds so I finally tried it out. After 30 minutes I just was not having any fun at all. While the enemies were silly (various fruits and vegetables), the gun mechanics were lackluster. I just did not get into the gameplay loop of shooting and scanning groceries. It was just too repetitive for me and for that reason I can’t recommend it.
  15. What the Bat? ($24.99) From the developer: From the creators of WHAT THE GOLF? comes a silly VR game about navigating life with baseball bats for hands. Swing your way through over 100 levels of batting, cooking, shooting, smashing, parking, painting, pickling, petting, and WHATnot. My thoughts: I was a huge fan of What the Golf on iOS, and was quite excited when I heard about this sequel. The “high” price point turned me off for a while, but when UploadVR gave it their “game of the year” award, I finally pulled the trigger. I had high hopes, and it was fun… at first, but the gimmick started to wear really thin on me rather quickly. It just didn’t seem to have the same magic the first game had. I kept going through it in hopes that something would change, or capture that original feeling, but honestly, it was a grind to finish such a short game. I understand I’m probably in the minority here, but I was quite disappointed.
  16. Superhot ($24.99) From the developer: Multi-award winning, smash-hit SUPERHOT VR blurs the lines between cautious strategy and unbridled mayhem. The definitive VR action experience. Time moves only when you move. No regenerating health bars. No conveniently placed ammo drops. It's you, alone, outnumbered and outgunned. Snatch weapons from fallen enemies to shoot, slice and dodge through a truly cinematic hurricane of slow-motion bullets. It’s like nothing you have ever played before. Something is different here. Lose track of what’s real. My thoughts: You know it, and you probably love it. Like so many others, so did I. This was one of my first VR experiences years ago and I finally saw it through to the end. This game can be quite demanding for some levels requiring accurate shooting, movement and timing. This game offers a really unique take on gameplay and multiple ways to get through some levels really increase the replayability. With the unique achievements to strive for you have a real winner. A must own for all gamers.
  17. Tube Be Continued (Demo) (Full game $14.99) From the developer: Hello! Welcome to TUBE Industries: a hamster owned and operated tube puzzle emporium! Prepare for a tube-based, puzzle-filled, HAM-PACKED adventure with our charismatic leader: The BOSS. Here at TUBE Industries we provide the puzzles and you provide… the brains. No shady business here! My thoughts: I like to look at the new App Lab games that come out every now and then and I’m a sucker for a good puzzle game. This is a game where you connect mazes together for hamsters to run through. It was a weird story that sees you working with a Hamster CEO trying to save his company from the Board, which are all hamsters. Really weird stuff, but while the demo was fun, the puzzles were a bit on the simple side and ultimately, I just did not think it was worth buying at this point. That being said, if the demo grabs you I could see this being a fun few hours with new content planning to be added.
  18. Dart Racer (Free) From the developer: Dart Racer is an arcade racing game where you compete against AI during race and other players on the online leaderboards - features multiple race tracks and environments - steering based on throttle differential - interactive tutorial - customizable game and comfort settings - optional hand tracking. My thoughts: Now this is podracing! It really did feel like I was doing some classic Star Wars podracing, but it was quite tough to learn the controls. Once I got that figured out, there certainly was some fun to be had, but unfortunately, it just was okay for me and I dropped out after a bit. Give it a try for free, and keep in mind there are plenty of motion assists to play with so you don't get sick.
  19. Nock ($9.99) From the developer: Nock is bow and arrow soccer. Skate and fly around a pitch while using a bow and arrow to blast the ball into the other team’s goal. Compete in multiplayer ranked matches, or play casual custom games with your friends! Like a real sport, Nock is easy to learn but difficult to master. Block arrows let you create obstacles and you can even use your body to make a goal or save. A fast-moving ball can knock you out. Skill-based matchmaking keeps every game extremely close and competitive. Casual modes let you challenge yourself against bots or play with friends in custom matches. My thoughts: Rocket League but with archery. While I’m not a fan of archery games in general, this game really had the physics dialed in. I always felt like I was in full control of my movement and bow and arrow. Nothing ever felt like it was off, and the aiming was spot on. Every hit of the ball, or miss was my fault. An absolute blast with with up to four friends, and that’s how I recommend you play it - with friends. But there are leagues and tournaments readily available if get into the game. That being said, I’m pretty terrible at it, and will only play with friends who can tolerate my terrible skills.
  20. Into the Radius ($29.99) From the developer: An atmospheric open-world single-player survival shooter. You find yourself in the middle of the blighted zone, cut from the outside world. Your guns and your wits are all you have left. Fight the deadly enemies, dodge dangerous anomalies, and collect wondrous artifacts on your way to the Radius center to find your way out. My thoughts: I found myself constantly saying “I can’t believe this actually runs on a Quest.” The amount of items you can interact with, areas available to explore, systems to learn and missions to accept can be quite overwhelming. Honestly it took me about 5-7 hours of gameplay, tutorials and youtube videos until finally the game “clicked.” After this one fateful mission where I was over encumbered with items, low on ammo with minimal health and dealing with enemies at every turn, I was totally immersed and was having the time of my life. It was an absolute blast and despite being so tense - a joy to play. I did tone down the difficulty a bit, which made it much more playable and less punishing. Truly a great game if you like the loop of scavenging, planning your route ahead and making sure literally every bullet counts. While it lacks in story, it does have a lot of environmental details and little things that you have to find for yourself. If you like survival games, it’s almost perfect.
  21. Surgineer ($9.99) From the developer: Have you ever dreamed of being a real surgeon? Well… you are not gonna learn that here. Welcome to the most unrealistic surgery simulator where everyone can instantly become a terrible doctor. You will have to solve hilarious surgical procedures ranging from CPR to brain transplant or even removing alien eggs from a poor patient using a robotic arm! You always thought you had that surgeon in you? You better have a bulletproof malpractice insurance before getting your virtual hands on a patient! My thoughts: At such a low price point, I wasn’t expecting much. I remember playing Surgeon Simulator back in the day and this looked like that. Much to my disappointment it was much more terrible than I had hoped. Absolutely no fun was to be had here. I constantly fought with the controls, many times had no clue what to do and finally gave up in frustration. I understand part of the appeal is the wonkiness of it, but this game requires someone with a lot more patience than me to get some fun out of it.
There you have it, 21 different games played in three months. I would say there are plenty of games to play and enjoy on the Quest. I hope you find a few that you might not have heard of, or that you might find worth revisiting. Let me know on the Ruff Talk Discord channel if you have a game you enjoy that I should try, I'm always open to recommendations. You can also find this article on the RuffTalkVR Blog Until then, I hope your next VR experience is a memorable one.

2023.03.22 16:39 SlowShoes There are no games to play! (January-March)

Find a friend or two and jump in this one, or play with the ever-full lobbies of people looking to join up. The latest Descension update adds two new maps and a ton of other bug fixes and gameplay additions. It's a great time to jump in with a friend!

2023.03.22 16:37 SlowShoes There are no games to play! (January-March 2023)

2023.03.22 14:43 moviesremastered Star Wars: Andor – Chapter I, The Reckoning by Movies Remastered (Changes)

Star Wars: Andor – Chapter I, The Reckoning (Changes)
Original Runtime: 2:57:32 MR Cut Runtime: 2:25:40 1920x804p h264 encoder AC3 5.1 Surround Sound Type: FanFix Tv to Film Released Now - Only on MR Discord, Invite link https://discord.gg/EBdQVXhDUh
Unpopular opinion but I couldn’t get through this series. It felt overly bloated and swayed way off track with subplots, to a point where it didn’t feel like a Cassian show at all. It was more like a Syril Karn eats Breakfast with his mother story which baffled me. This edit now focuses on Cassian’s story from the start, cuts out all the fluff and Syril almost completely, creating an incredibly emotional journey with our main protagonist. I may be biased but this is now some of my favorite Star Wars ever made, and that’s coming from someone who said they’d never bother with this series again. This is also now a linear movie trilogy instead of a series….
• Insert Fanedit warning
• Add a new Old Ben Kenobi trailer.
• Insert Intro MR logo
• Add “A Long time ago in a galaxy far, far away….”
• Open with first flashback scenes from Kenari. Using these flashback scenes at the start not only opens us up to a more interesting story but gives us background straight away for we become more invested in the characters. Especially why Cassian is looking for his sister.
• While the show says that Kenari is a lost language with translation, I felt the scenes had more weight by giving the kids subtitles, especially as we now hear Cassian's final words to his sister.
• Add Kenari Sister Subtitles “Kassa!”
• Add Kenari Sister Subtitles “There’s a ship…. Come look!”
• Add Kenari Girl Subtitles “Over there!”
• Add Kenari Cassian Subtitles “I can’t see it”
• Add Kenari Girl Subtitles “Hey, Hey! Over here! Over here!
• Add Kenari other Girl Subtitles “Stop it! Stop it!”
• Add Kenari Sister Subtitles “I’m scared.”
• Insert second flashback scene
• Fix audio transition to blend with scene
• Add Kenari Girl Subtitles “Here, you’ll need these.”
• Add Kenari Cassian Subtitles “You can’t come, You’re too young.”
• Add Kenari Sister Subtitles “But I want to”
• Add Kenari Cassian Subtitles “When you’re older…. I promise”
• Add Kenari other Girl Subtitles “You’ll need this.”
• Add Kenari tribe boy Subtitles “Don’t touch that! It’s not for you.”
• Add Kenari other Girl Subtitles “Hey! It’s everyone’s. Help yourself.”
• Add Kenari Girl Subtitles “We must all stick together.”
• Add Kenari other Girl Subtitles “Help yourself. Pass me my weapon.”
• Insert third flashback scene
• Fix audio transition to blend with scene
• Add Kenari Sister Subtitles “How long will you be gone?”
• Add Kenari Cassian Subtitles “As long as it takes. I’ll come back.”
• Insert forth flashback scene
• Fix audio transitions to blend with the scene and extend musical queue to build tension.
• Insert fifth flashback scene
• Fix audio transition to blend with scene
• Add Kenari other Girl Subtitles “Stay low, and quiet. Wait for my signal.”
• Insert sixth flashback scene
• Fix audio transition to blend with scene
• Add Kenari Cassian Subtitles “Give her space, she needs to breathe.”
• Add Kenari Girl Subtitles “She’s dying!”
• Insert seventh flashback scene
• Fix audio transition to blend with scene
• Insert eighth flashback scene
• Fix audio transition to blend with scene
• Rework audio to suit the scene of Cassian screaming with his back turned.
• Add Andor intro logo
• Add “Chapter I – The Reckoning”
• Fix audio transition leading into logo scene
• Speed up Cassian’s punch by 60%. While this is a nitpick, the punch seems very staged and took me out of the scene. Speeding it up gives it more weight and harder hit.
• Speed up punch sound but maintain pitch
• A whole lot of audio reworking as B enters Cassian’s place.
• Remove Cassian sleeping that would usually go into one of the flashback scenes already used in the intro.
• Shift around both Cassian and B’s dialogue to hide scene removal
• Remove Cassian hitting B. I thought this was unnecessary and change the relationship adding droid abuse to the scene
• Remove random B-roll of Gloves wall. It’s almost like the props team were so proud of their work that they had to slow down the pacing just to marvel at their work.
• Fix score transition to hide above cut scene.
• Remove the intro shot to Morlana One. This whole scene just felt like a huge exposition dump that went on forever!
• Remove Cassian walking into the front door of the garage.
• Remove Timm saying “She’s in the yard” again, this just slowed pacing.
• Add background noise to hide the transition edit above.
• Add transition cut where flashback scene used to be
• Remove the Syril Karn scene. I’ve removed this character from the entire edit from here as I feel he added no weight or direction to the main story.
• Trim down scene with Timm following Bix. This felt like it went on too long and him now losing her quicker shows she is smart.
• Remove shots of Timm looking felt and right and confused. Just having him look one way speeds this scene up and keeps a natural flow.
• Remove the Syril Karn scene. I don’t wanna see the inner workings of the empire fleshed out. Keeping them mysterious is the whole point of being on the dark side.
• Fix score transition leading into Yard scene
• Fix audio transition where flashback scene has been removed for intro.
• Remove outro credits for episode 1
• Remove intro credits for episode 2
• Flashback scene removed for intro
• Cut to the bell ringing dude.
• Remove motion tracked English screen translation. We’ve never seen this in Star Wars before and they literally translate it in the next scene. Fairly pointless, imo.
• Remove the bar scene between Cassian and Bix. We don’t really learn anything here and Timm seeing Cassian touch her arm shouldn’t be enough for him to snitch on Cassian.
• Remove the scene of Timm snitching on Cassian. The audience finding out who it was at this stage spoils any mystery moving forward. Now we find out when Cassian finds out who snitched.
• Remove the Syril Karn scene. Another pointless scene that ruins the mystery.
• Remove shot of Timm looking shady. This now gives the audience too big of a clue who snitched so removing this just shows that he is nervous about seeing Bix after his doubts.
• Remove the Syril Karn scene. More pointless dialogue that makes the show drag.
• Fix transition where flashback scene has been removed.
• Fix audio transition leading into Luthen intro
• Remove the second shot of the Bell tower guy. While he’s awesome, this scene felt oddly paced.
• Fix audio so bell sound now wakes Bix.
• Remove scene between Cassian and B getting com’s. This just feels a little unnecessary and drawn out. We don’t really learn much in this scene, it just feels like filler.
• Fix audio for Maarva shouting “B!”. removing the above scene now has the audience wondering where B is rather than already knowing.
• Fix audio transition to hide where another flashback scene has been removed
• Remove Syril Karn awkward speech scene. Just cut after the filing paperwork comment.
• Remove the transport scene with Luthen talking to old man. While I like this scene, it really draws you out of the suspense now building in this edit.
• Remove the dramatic walking shot of Cassian strutting through the yard. While this was cool for an episode outro, it doesn’t work here.
• Remove dramatic score
• Remove episode 2 outro credits
• Remove episode 3 intro credits
• Fix audio transition to hide remove flashback scene for intro.
• Remove score and Cassian scream from shipyard scene
• Add Spark, Welding and Electronic SFX to rebuild 5.1 audio in transition
• Remove Syril Karn awkward scene.
• Remove Syril Karn nervous looking scene.
• Fix music transition leading into the scene with B.
• Trim down Syril Karn nervous looking scenes. Why are we on him so much? Emotion feels oddly forced
• Fix audio transition on landing shot.
• Remove Luthen weapon detraction. While this is an awesome look at his weapon, it feels like an oddly placed scene and action.
• Cut to metal yard scene and fix audio transition
• Fix audio transition to hide flashback scene removal
• Remove Syril Karn asking how far? About a 10 minute walk. Random bit of information that drags out the scene.
• Fix audio transition leading into Cassian meeting Luthen.
• Remove Syril Karn shooting up the store and looking for a hiding place.
• Fix score transition into scene with B
• Remove Syril Karn looking awkward again
• Remove episode 3 outro credits
• Remove episode 4 intro credits
• Remove score intro music
• Cut straight to ship pan shot for a jump scare.
• Cut LotR type shot of Vel walking towards the ship
• Remove Vel saying “Obviously there’s something wrong?”
• Remove Luthen’s reply
• Remove Cassian walking out of ship, wide shot to help with transition scene after next cut.
• Remove Syril Karn being reprimanded and fired. His character isn’t important in this edit and no reason for this pointless storyline to continue moving forward.
• Fix score audio transition leading into mountain walk shot.
• Remove Vel saying “They won’t be back today.” No reason to stop the audience anxiety building up with another possible tie fighter flyby, plus I use a Tie sound to cover audio transition later.
• Cut back and forth with Cassian and Vel. Just cut to Cassian looking over his shoulder for the tie fighter.
• Some audio wizardry to remove Cassian and Vel’s dialogue
• Remove scene with Dedra, this is clearly just an episode recap scene put in to allow casual viewers to keep up.
• Fix score transition audio
• Remove Syril Karn going home to his mother. Seriously, Is this actually in a star wars show?
• Use Tie fighter sound for seamless transition
• Remove Vel saying “Ok?... Alright?” She’s a leader, people should act on her first word without question. Her being unsure at this point shows weakness.
• Remove scene between Dedra and Blevin. This back and forth to the empire just beaks any momentum building with our protagonists.
• Remove outro credits to episode 4
• Remove intro credits to episode 5
• Remove Syril Karn crying scene
• Remove Syril Karn having breakfast with his mother. Honestly, WTF am I watching here?
• Remove scene between Cassian and Arvel. While this is a good scene, removing this pushes that actual edit transitions narrative way harder.
• Remove Mon mothma scene with her stroppy daughter. I want to make her seem more innocent when it comes to the inappropriate proposal for her to marry.
• Cut to Cassian sitting by the fire. This edit now shows that Cassian has sat up all night learning his mission. Showing his dedication to the cause.
• Remove scene with Blevin looking for new office space. This felt like a very odd scene to having after camp.
• Remove Syril Karn eating with his mother again and talking about his uncle. Who cares? This completely pump the breaks on any suspense built up in the previous scenes. Such a pointless character.
• Fix score and add all the delay and reverb for a smooth transition.
• Remove scene with Arvel halfing a knife to Cassian and taking his krystal. Fairly pointless scene that slows down pacing and leads nowhere.
• Fix audio score leading into Mon Mothma scene. Keeping tension high by cutting to this shot.
• Remove another pointless Syril Karn scene.
• Fix score audio transition
• Add Movies Remastered outro credit text. • Add MR logo to end credits. • Add MR Disney Saber logo to end credits.

2023.03.22 10:15 HagridGranger 28 [M4F] Sydney/Anywhere - Super inexperienced and shy hoping to become more confident and experienced!

Long story short and as much as it sucks to say, I haven't really experienced much of anything. I'm going to intentionally beat around the bush as to what category that "experience" falls under but I think most people should be able to figure it out lol. In other words (and if you play games), I'm a complete noob when it comes to all things girls. As for why those things haven't happened and why I want that to change.. There's a few reasons, but the main reason why I'm putting such an emphasis on this is because I'm a huge homebody and I don't go out much at all which makes it difficult to meet people. That's where Reddit comes in! The message I'm essentially trying to send is becoming physically AND emotionally close with a girl is what I want the most. I want to experience it all; the laughs, excitement, curiosity, intimacy, hanging out, fun. Experiencing all that for the first time will be the closest I’ll ever get to flying (like a bird, not in a plane 🙃) Blame all the Disney movies I watched as a kid for that lol.
Finding someone would be a dream come true, but I also wouldn't mind striking up a friendship at the same time because that also counts as experience! You can never have too many friends. Local or international, just let me know if that's what you want instead :) And I definitely wouldn't be opposed to a relationship. I've obviously never been in one so I'm not exactly sure how to transition to that, haha. I totally wouldn't mind finding out, though :) Also finding someone to say good morning and night to, too! That would be the best even if it's incredibly cheesy 🧀
Anyway, it could be someone of any age with a lot of experience or someone with no experience like me, or introverted or not introverted like me, etc. I don't have a preference either way :) But if I were to be reaaally picky: they'd be sweet and down to earth because just cuddling on its own would be all kinds of cool. I might actually prefer that over doing you know what with a girl :) A bit about me: I'm shy, caring, kind, sweet and am normal in the weight and height categories. I want to say I'm okay in the looks department? 🙈 I'll let you decide that though lol. I think it's super fun learning about people through conversation so I'll leave the following hobbies section blank. Then again, I suppose it wouldn't hurt to give a small hint to something I love.. My username should provide clues to that! I Siriusly need to re-watch the movies again. Maybe with someone I meet through r4r?
Alright, I can't hold it in anymore. I pretty much like a little bit of everything. For example, when it comes to music, I go through Backstreet Boys phases to Disney song phases (Moana is awesome and I haven't even seen the movie 🙊) to something like Simple Plan, Paramore or 50 Cent. What I'm trying to say is I like a little bit of everything! So there's a good chance I'll like whatever you like when it comes to hobbies and interests and that means connecting with each other should be relatively natural/seamless. Or maybe that's wishful thinking on my part, haha.
I'm not the best with openers and if you're also in the same boat, then how about this: If you could have any superpower what would it be and how would you use it? Being out of this world smart like Tony Stark is an acceptable super poweanswer, by the way.
Hopefully my first impression is a good one! If anyone is even remotely interested, then just let me know and I'll get back to you asap!

2023.03.22 10:10 Astice_Pensante Disney Speedstorm drifts into early access April 18 (03/22/2023)

Disney's take on Mario Kart, Disney Speedstorm, is finally launching into early access next month, April 18.
Those that regularly play Mario Kart and feel there just aren't enough cartoon mice that epitomise capitalism will be happy to hear that Disney Speedstorm is almost here, as the game's official Twitter announced you'll be able to head to the race tracks from April 18. The game will be available on Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, and will be free-to-play whenever it receives its full launch, but to play it in early access you'll need to purchase one of the game's founder packs.
The standard founder's pack is the cheapest way to get early access, but in turn it obviously offers less bang for your buck. With this pack you get to play the early access release, as well as have Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck unlocked, alongside one racer of your choice - plus a couple of bonus exclusive founding member racing suits for Mickey, Donald, and whichever racer you choose Link to article

2023.03.22 03:59 LogicalFig7903 New guy here, would love advice on prioritizing cards to get

Current credit cards you are the primary account holder of: Chase Sapphire Preferred, $17,800 limit, 02/2023 Amex Platinum, no clue (bought a $7k fence easy enough), 02/2023 Amex Blue Cash Preferred, $25,000 limit, 02/2023 USAA Cashback Rewards Plus, $7,800 limit, 05/2017
CATEGORIES
MEMBERSHIPS & SUBSCRIPTIONS
PURPOSE
To the SME'S that reside here, I'm hoping for your advice regarding what cards I apply for next as well as strategies/insight into reaping travel rewards points. I currently use my cards as follows-
*USAA for gas *Amex BCP for groceries and all streaming services except for Disney Bundle *Amex Platinum for Verizon phone bill, $19.99 Disney bundle, and one time expensive purchases for purchase protection *Chase Sapphire Preferred is currently everything else
I understand Amex and Chase both have Air Canada/Aeroplan as a travel partner, and with my wife being Canadian we like to travel up to Canada at least once per year. Our nearby airport is Raleigh and has Air Canada, but is also a Southwest hub so accruing UR points could be more beneficial. Does the Amex trifecta rack in more points than the Chase trifecta would? And which trifecta would work best for my current situation? Would love to set up an optimal card rotation within the next year or two. If you made it this far into this write up, thanks.

2023.03.22 03:40 Practical-Ant5987 DANNY WAS TRYING TO GIVE BIRTH IN DISNEYLAND!!

it all makes sense now. danny’s tactical stroller video was posted about 9 months after his disneyland video. “how do those two things correlate,” you may ask, but boy do i have an answer for you. you know what comes in about 9 months? babies. now why in the world danny need a stroller so tactical it could tackle curbs like a PRO LINEBACKER?? unless… unless he was attempting to give birth in disneyland. need more proof? his baby in the video was a baby chewbaca. who is chewbaca owned by? disney? i’ve connected the dots, and all the red threads lead to this. just thought i’d let all the other gregs know in case he needs our assistance.
who do you think the dad is? my bets are on donald duck or walt disney himself.
